- 0:17Speaker 2: I'm teaning to wear and I just saw something very
- 0:19Speaker 2: frustrating because we've talked about in the show before.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Yep. I was so excited too at this because we've
- 0:25Speaker 1: been talking about the fact that we've not been able
- 0:27Speaker 1: to find any information out about Microsoft's ugly sweater. Now
- 0:32Speaker 1: you've bought one before, right, you've.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Actually bought one last year. I bought one.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Right. They do this ugly sweater around the holidays, and
- 0:40Speaker 1: it's a you know, Christmas sweater, and usually it is
- 0:43Speaker 1: something to do with Microsoft, and they put it for sale.
- 0:46Speaker 1: They usually sell out.
- 0:48Speaker 2: It finally is available, but it's eighty bucks.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Eighty dollars for a sweater.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I don't think it was that expensive last time I
- 0:53Speaker 2: bought it. I thought it was like closer.
- 0:54Speaker 1: To fifty Yeah, I think it was. I think it was.
- 0:56Speaker 2: But this is it's cool, but I don't think it's right.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I don't know, it does look pretty cool.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Maybe I'll buy it, all right, So if you get
- 1:04Speaker 1: the ugly sweater, which one would you get? They have
- 1:06Speaker 1: one that is the Zoon logo if you remember Zoom
- 1:09Speaker 1: that was kind of Microsoft's answer to the iPod. There's
- 1:12Speaker 1: another one that's in there, which is Xbox Xbox one.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yeah, there's an Xbox one and it's just great and
- 1:17Speaker 2: black and looks like the Xbox console.
- 1:19Speaker 1: The one that I want is the hideous one. It's clippy.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Other artifacts like the MS logo.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Or MSN logo, MS DOS notepad paint. I don't even
- 1:30Speaker 2: know if that blue one is cop Is that co Pilot?
- 1:33Speaker 1: I think it's a co pilot. Why would they have
- 1:35Speaker 1: that on their pilot? They got a market it's Microsoft Cobie.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I don't think that's an old That doesn't look like
- 1:42Speaker 2: an old logo to you, does it?
- 1:43Speaker 1: No?
- 1:44Speaker 2: No, that definitely is two rounded if you want to get,
- 1:47Speaker 2: definitely co Pilot. That's definitely worthy of getting it. For
- 1:50Speaker 2: the ugly sweater. Mine Sweeper's on.
- 1:52Speaker 1: There, Mine Sweeper Hearts. Did you play mine Sweeper or Solitaire?
- 1:57Speaker 2: Mind Sweeper? Yeah, mine Sweeper is the best.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Mind Sweeper was good, but I like solitabe.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I'm a little disappointed they don't have ski free on here.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Ski free What is that one?
- 2:07Speaker 2: That's the one where you ski down the hill and
- 2:08Speaker 2: you get chased by the abominable snowman?
- 2:10Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Is the copile logo?
- 2:14Speaker 1: By the way, that isn't so why would they put
- 2:16Speaker 1: that on there? They get marketing, it's everything.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it's they got to put it into everything. But like,
- 2:23Speaker 2: I feel like that does a disservice to everybody that's
- 2:25Speaker 2: done all these cool things with the fiftieth anniversary, Microsoft,
- 2:29Speaker 2: you're gonna just slap a copile logo on there.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, Now if you want to go beyond that, and
- 2:34Speaker 1: if you do this, Sean, you have to send a picture.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Microsoft is also selling the fiftieth anniversary crocs.
- 2:42Speaker 2: So not only yeah for seventy five dollars.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Yeah, seventy five bucks.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I'm not buying a pair of crocks, a serwenty five dollars.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And it looks like this stuff is just stuck on
- 2:51Speaker 1: to the top of the croc. So I'm wondering if
- 2:52Speaker 1: that'll come off.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Well. So having friends who have kids, you can buy
- 2:58Speaker 2: charms for your they're basically like pins you put in
- 3:02Speaker 2: the holes rocks, and they have a plethora of them
- 3:06Speaker 2: for sale on here right there. They're like, they're not
- 3:10Speaker 2: that cheap. If you go to Microsoft Merchandise dot Com.
- 3:13Speaker 2: They have a whole store. Now that's different than last year,
- 3:16Speaker 2: right because it used to be the Microsoft Store, But
- 3:19Speaker 2: this is a whole new website and everything. They have
- 3:22Speaker 2: a whole bunch of cool looking fiftieth anniversaries of backpacks, mugs,
- 3:28Speaker 2: an Xbox Series S toaster I have that.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I still have that toaster, an.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Xbox Area rug which looks pretty cool, a bunch of
- 3:36Speaker 2: bunch of co Pilot.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Merch Microsoft Merchandise dot Com. That's the website to go to.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So if you want to order your ugly sweater, you
- 3:45Speaker 1: can go ahead and do that. Now. That's yeah, pretty
- 3:48Speaker 1: amazing stuff.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Xbox Controller, Stress toy plushies. But I don't know, I'm
- 3:54Speaker 2: kind of I'm kind of mythed that they put the
- 3:56Speaker 2: copile lug on there right.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's supposed be classic theme because it's got all
- 4:02Speaker 2: the classic beams within co Pilot right there on the arm. Wow.
- 4:06Speaker 1: All right, Uh, we're gonna talk about technology and stuff.
- 4:09Speaker 1: It's the you know last last show before Christmas? Really?
- 4:13Speaker 1: So again, have you put together your list of stuff
- 4:16Speaker 1: that you would like to get? I mean, I know
- 4:18Speaker 1: you've bought stuff.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Right, let me pull up my Christmas list.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Oh, there we go. Sean has pulled it up. The
- 4:23Speaker 1: Christmas list, Now I do.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I made a Google doc for Caitlin because that's she
- 4:27Speaker 2: asked before I've got here's I'm just gonna run through
- 4:31Speaker 2: my list real quick.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Right, okay?
- 4:33Speaker 2: Wireless N sixty four controller for the Analog three D
- 4:35Speaker 2: made eight bit do o calyx for i Kiya, which
- 4:38Speaker 2: is the sixteen inch by sixteen inch. It's a wall
- 4:42Speaker 2: mount storage fits. It's like every every board person who
- 4:47Speaker 2: plays board games or owns a lot of board games
- 4:49Speaker 2: has these because it fits perfectly like most of the
- 4:51Speaker 2: size sports. Right, I need more space.
- 4:53Speaker 1: You need more space for the games.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I need another one. I ran out of space in
- 4:57Speaker 2: my board game. Hot Air rework station for soldering. Oh cool, yep,
- 5:04Speaker 2: Meryl shoes, Bortec shoes, socks, a flipper, zero flippers, zero
- 5:10Speaker 2: dga evada. If I if somebody wants to spend big
- 5:13Speaker 2: money on.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Me, how much is the evada going for?
- 5:16Speaker 2: Let's look thraight here.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I got a link that is a drag.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Available in my country or region.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Oh, you can't even get it.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So I can't even get it. Apparently everything's out of stock,
- 5:25Speaker 2: so not surprised.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Can you buy it? So is there a way that
- 5:28Speaker 1: you can buy it?
- 5:28Speaker 2: I know it says I can buy it now, BSW
- 5:32Speaker 2: I they're a lot of stock, right, but I said,
- 5:35Speaker 2: I can't clearly buy it.
- 5:36Speaker 1: But what's the difference between the Avada and say they're
- 5:41Speaker 1: they're magic?
- 5:43Speaker 2: Oh? The size significantly size difference is this is the
- 5:47Speaker 2: Evadas below the two hundred and fifty gram weight limit.
- 5:52Speaker 2: This one comes with the goggles if you buy the kit,
- 5:56Speaker 2: and it doesn't have an actual like controller like a
- 5:59Speaker 2: two hand controller, just comes with like a joystick, like
- 6:01Speaker 2: you hold onto it and fly with the joystick controller.
- 6:04Speaker 2: You could pair it with the pro controller, but this
- 6:08Speaker 2: one is more designed for single handed use. FPV flying
- 6:12Speaker 2: and it's tiny, I mean it's really small.
- 6:14Speaker 1: So yeah, FPV flying. In case you don't know, is
- 6:18Speaker 1: you wear goggles and.
- 6:20Speaker 2: First person view first point, first point of view. Yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 2: first person view.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I've never done that before, but everybody that has have
- 6:26Speaker 1: you have you ever had a chance to do that FPV. Yeah,
- 6:28Speaker 1: well I built my own remember, Oh that's right, Yes
- 6:31Speaker 1: you did, so I have my own.
- 6:32Speaker 2: That's a little it's made by company called flight Test
- 6:36Speaker 2: m H which is a group of guys that just
- 6:39Speaker 2: decided to build an RC plane company in their backyard
- 6:42Speaker 2: and it's probably one of the biggest RC companies in
- 6:44Speaker 2: the world. And I built it's called a gremlin. It's
- 6:48Speaker 2: a build drone. You get the whole kit. You have
- 6:49Speaker 2: to build the whole thing from scratch. And then I
- 6:52Speaker 2: just bought a pair of five point eight gig received
- 6:55Speaker 2: goggles shark goggles, fat shark I think it's what they're called,
- 7:00Speaker 2: and wired it up so I could view it there
- 7:02Speaker 2: from there.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Oh, very cool.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And to it with, I have a spectrum controller that
- 7:08Speaker 2: I sinked at all too.
- 7:09Speaker 1: So yeah, how much how often do you get out
- 7:11Speaker 1: and fly it?
- 7:13Speaker 2: Never? It's I mean it's with This was all built
- 7:18Speaker 2: and bought before I had kids, right, and that's a
- 7:22Speaker 2: little bit of a pain to It's winter time now,
- 7:24Speaker 2: so I don't want to take it outside and.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Fly it, right.
- 7:27Speaker 2: But it's it's still something that I got to build
- 7:29Speaker 2: and and flow like Max will get the player that
- 7:32Speaker 2: maybe down you know, down the road, but I definitely
- 7:35Speaker 2: don't fly now, it's not it's definitely not a it's
- 7:37Speaker 2: not GPS sync, it's not doesn't have it doesn't have.
- 7:40Speaker 2: The only camera has on it is for the FPV
- 7:43Speaker 2: and so it's designed just to fly. It has some
- 7:47Speaker 2: stabilization on it, but it doesn't have like there's no.
- 7:50Speaker 1: There's no avoidance on it or anything.
- 7:52Speaker 2: No, no, no, this is literally four motors, a d
- 7:55Speaker 2: s C for all the motor controllers, four scs for
- 7:58Speaker 2: the motor controllers, a small GPS board that will just
- 8:02Speaker 2: keep it level. But yeah, there's nothing stopped from crashing
- 8:06Speaker 2: it A bunch all.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Right, So what else? What else is on your list?
- 8:09Speaker 1: What else is on the list? S?
- 8:10Speaker 2: An AC DC power supply so I can power my
- 8:13Speaker 2: hand radio stuff from an AC outlet instead of having
- 8:16Speaker 2: to use either my DJA power or lead acid battery.
- 8:21Speaker 2: H A signal stock signal stuff, HAM radio antenna ruck.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Right A I Keia gaming chair because this chair is
- 8:30Speaker 2: a piece of wrap or grower and I'm probably gonna
- 8:33Speaker 2: break it. I've had this chair for since I moved
- 8:38Speaker 2: back to Michigan in twenty thirteen.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Wow.
- 8:40Speaker 2: So this chair is seen better days. It's relatively comfortable.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I hate I hate to say it. I would love
- 8:46Speaker 1: it though, if it just broke while we were on
- 8:47Speaker 1: the air.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty. It's pretty creaky. Yeah, A Steel Series
- 8:55Speaker 2: gaming an Arctics seven plus, so it's the same version
- 8:57Speaker 2: I have the Artist Seven's right, the which I've had
- 9:01Speaker 2: since since before.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I mean great headphones.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I've had these for over a decade. I mean they've
- 9:07Speaker 2: had them for they got bought them at twenty four No,
- 9:10Speaker 2: I buy bottom well before that. I would have bought
- 9:12Speaker 2: these when I was in San Diego. So I've probably
- 9:15Speaker 2: had these since twenty eleven, twenty twelve.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Maybe, yeah, yep, so ye a long time.
- 9:22Speaker 2: And then I have a T shirt on here that
- 9:25Speaker 2: is called uh it's a company called Forefathers. They make
- 9:30Speaker 2: all these fun shirts and this one it's a Christmas one.
- 9:34Speaker 2: It's called pop the Hood, right, and it's just a
- 9:39Speaker 2: step in repeat pattern of different check engine light symbols
- 9:43Speaker 2: on your car. So it's got all that's great usher fluid,
- 9:47Speaker 2: it's got the fan, it's got the defrost, it's got
- 9:50Speaker 2: the thermostat oil pressure symbol. It's it's just like a
- 9:53Speaker 2: Christmas color, you know, because it's all yellow, orange or green.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Oh that is great.
- 9:58Speaker 2: It's just like a step it's a stepper.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Wait, who makes this again?
- 10:01Speaker 2: What's called Forefathers?
- 10:03Speaker 1: Forefathers?
- 10:04Speaker 2: All right, Yeah, they make all sorts of If you
- 10:07Speaker 2: go to their website, it's called Shopfourfathers dot com. I
- 10:10Speaker 2: mean they've got hilarious ones. You would like these. Right.
- 10:12Speaker 2: So it's got like it's got a turf. It's called
- 10:15Speaker 2: turf dad. Right, it's basically a little lawnmower. It's driving
- 10:18Speaker 2: stripes across his shirt.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Oh that's great.
- 10:22Speaker 2: They've got one that's got it's like stars. I bought
- 10:27Speaker 2: one that was like a camping dad. So it's got
- 10:30Speaker 2: like it's like a step repeat. It's got like tongs
- 10:32Speaker 2: and a camper and a grill and a bunch of
- 10:35Speaker 2: other stuff. And it's my camp it's my camping polo
- 10:37Speaker 2: because it's a nice polo.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Do they make a do they make the motherboard one?
- 10:42Speaker 1: Because I've had people comment on my shirt where did
- 10:44Speaker 1: I get it? And it was a company in Phoenix
- 10:46Speaker 1: that were selling them a butt it online. But they're expensive.
- 10:49Speaker 1: They're like sixty seventy bunchs.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah, these are not cheap. I think this is like
- 10:53Speaker 2: sixty five bucks. They've got a ton of different ones
- 10:56Speaker 2: now since before I went basketball. Tacos, yeah, stars and stripes,
- 11:04Speaker 2: lawn dad, wow, I mean yeah, so forefathers. Uh look,
- 11:09Speaker 2: check them up. But the one, the one that I have,
- 11:10Speaker 2: is called Happy Camperol send a link to it.
- 11:12Speaker 1: But all right, cool, Yeah, I wanted to share this
- 11:15Speaker 1: with you. There is a website that's out They're called
- 11:18Speaker 1: find My Past, and apparently they went through fourteen billion
- 11:22Speaker 1: documents over the last five hundred years looking for people
- 11:26Speaker 1: with holiday themed names. All right, now, what would you
- 11:30Speaker 1: think Sean would be the most common name Christmas? Christmas
- 11:36Speaker 1: people have named their kids Christmas? Actually, it was like
- 11:38Speaker 1: first names or last names. First name, first name? This
- 11:41Speaker 1: is first name?
- 11:42Speaker 2: Oh, like so like for holiday names Joy or Noel.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Let's see, let's see what else would I think for holidays?
- 11:50Speaker 2: I can't think of anyone that aren't going to be
- 11:52Speaker 2: like what what this generation is called tragedies called incorrectly
- 11:56Speaker 2: because of everybody naming their kids with words that don't
- 11:59Speaker 2: make sense.
- 12:00Speaker 1: The most common name was Ivy ivy y.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Oh all right, that's not what I would have thought
- 12:06Speaker 2: about for Holly.
- 12:07Speaker 1: There was thirty two hundred kids that have been named Reindeer,
- 12:14Speaker 1: actually reindeer, five hundred and seventy nine. Apparently according to
- 12:20Speaker 1: this info I got named their kids Snowman, which would
- 12:25Speaker 1: if you think about it. Snowman was a name in
- 12:27Speaker 1: Smoky in the band. Remember it was called Snowman, but
- 12:30Speaker 1: that was a nickname that wasn't an actual Regal names.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Are nicknames, not actual. These are nicknames, not binding names.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Twenty three people they named their kid eggnog, eggnog.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I mean I like some I love some nog, but
- 12:51Speaker 2: not ye kid.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Can you imagine you go to school? What's your name? Eggnog?
- 12:57Speaker 1: How do you deal with that? One?
- 13:00Speaker 2: Not sitting here? Kid up for bullying at all?
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah? Maybe middle named nutmeg eggnog Nutmeg. There you go.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Going with a holiday theme for the show this week. Actually,
- 13:14Speaker 1: there is something that we wanted to tell you about CISA,
- 13:17Speaker 1: which is the Cyber Information Security Administration. They're part of
- 13:22Speaker 1: the Homeland Security and they've gotten together with the FBI
- 13:25Speaker 1: and they're letting everybody know, and especially if you're listening
- 13:28Speaker 1: right now, that they're calling this dangerous December, because what
- 13:33Speaker 1: is happening is they're finding that a lot of attacks
- 13:35Speaker 1: are being carried out on our browsers and our mobile systems,
- 13:39Speaker 1: both iOS and Android, reminding everybody to update your systems.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Think about it, right, like the amount of online shopping
- 13:47Speaker 2: is happening right now. Even people that don't typically use
- 13:50Speaker 2: their computers for shopping are shopping on the internet right now.
- 13:54Speaker 2: They may have pulled out a device that hasn't been
- 13:57Speaker 2: updated in a while. They oh, I got to go
- 13:58Speaker 2: my Christmas shopping done, and now they're an old, outdated browser.
- 14:01Speaker 2: And you know, vulnerabilities on outdated browsers are vulnerabilities, They
- 14:06Speaker 2: are risky well people.
- 14:08Speaker 1: And some people believe that, and we've talked about this before.
- 14:11Speaker 1: You never click a link, you know, whether it be
- 14:14Speaker 1: in an email or a pop up that pops up.
- 14:17Speaker 1: But some people don't even realize that just going to
- 14:20Speaker 1: a website, typing in the wrong name of a website,
- 14:25Speaker 1: because they can be set up quickly, and you think
- 14:27Speaker 1: you've typed in the right name, you had entered and
- 14:30Speaker 1: that couldn't be enough to infect your system. And if
- 14:34Speaker 1: your browser is not updated, that could even make you
- 14:38Speaker 1: more vulnerable. So just real quick, if you're on Google Chrome,
- 14:41Speaker 1: you're listening to the show you know on the radio
- 14:45Speaker 1: if you come back to listen to us after you
- 14:47Speaker 1: do this. But if you're on a Google Chrome browser,
- 14:50Speaker 1: if you're logged in, you click in the three dots
- 14:52Speaker 1: in the top right and you'll see them. They're you know,
- 14:56Speaker 1: stacked up above each other. Scroll click on those, scroll
- 15:00Speaker 1: down to the settings on the left side. You will
- 15:03Speaker 1: see about Chrome. Click on that and it will run
- 15:06Speaker 1: your update. And the Edge browser works pretty much the
- 15:09Speaker 1: same way. It's three dots except there in a row.
- 15:12Speaker 1: And the thing is just take that. It does not
- 15:15Speaker 1: take that long. If you're doing something, log out, stop
- 15:19Speaker 1: what you're doing, and then do your updates, whether it
- 15:22Speaker 1: be on your Edge or Chrome or any of the
- 15:24Speaker 1: browsers that are up there. Make sure you're updated safari.
- 15:28Speaker 1: The whole bed so far is a little different to
- 15:31Speaker 1: your update on but you can certainly do it. But
- 15:34Speaker 1: they're just saying that even on your smartphones, make sure
- 15:37Speaker 1: your smartphones are updated. They've been going after Android, they've
- 15:40Speaker 1: been going after iOS as well.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Uh.
- 15:43Speaker 1: And you know, you may think, well, how what are
- 15:45Speaker 1: they going to do right now? They're going to try
- 15:47Speaker 1: and take They'll try and take money try and take persona,
- 15:50Speaker 1: try and take credit credit, you know, use your credit cards,
- 15:53Speaker 1: get your buy stuff, you buy stuff for them, the
- 15:55Speaker 1: whole bets. You gotta be really careful about that.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Yeah, no, just it's important to keep your stuff up
- 16:01Speaker 2: to date, just to be safe. And there there's incentive
- 16:05Speaker 2: for people to attack vulnerabilities, like there's there's a monetary
- 16:09Speaker 2: incentive and they don't give a rats behind about you
- 16:13Speaker 2: or your data. They just want to make money.
- 16:15Speaker 1: That's it. So don't care who you are, what you do.
- 16:19Speaker 1: As long as you've got you've got a way to
- 16:21Speaker 1: give them the money, they'll take it.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you've got to just be safe on the Internet
- 16:25Speaker 2: and not click on stuff and just you know, just
- 16:28Speaker 2: got to protect yourself as much as you can because
- 16:32Speaker 2: the internet, the Internet doesn't care.
- 16:34Speaker 1: The other thing they've talked about too, the FBI is
- 16:36Speaker 1: reminding people the months of December can be lonely. It
- 16:41Speaker 1: can be lonely for some people. And you know, romance
- 16:45Speaker 1: scams are on the rise. And if you don't know
- 16:49Speaker 1: what a romance scam is, that somebody who comes in,
- 16:51Speaker 1: they start sweet talking you, they make a connection. They
- 16:55Speaker 1: may even act like it's a wrong number. That they called.
- 16:58Speaker 1: They do it via text or I'll do it via
- 17:01Speaker 1: an online message, and next thing you know, they're making
- 17:05Speaker 1: a connection. They're talking to you. Oh yeah, and don't
- 17:08Speaker 1: forget your information that you have online about your name,
- 17:12Speaker 1: which you may have your full name available on Facebook.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Can give a lot of info about you and tell
- 17:17Speaker 1: where you live. Next thing, somebody can find out what's
- 17:20Speaker 1: the street nearby you. And next thing they say, oh,
- 17:23Speaker 1: I used to live on this street. And they create
- 17:25Speaker 1: a confidence scam is what it is, and a romance
- 17:30Speaker 1: scam is no different. Next thing you know, they are
- 17:33Speaker 1: needing some money or they're needing you to do something
- 17:36Speaker 1: for them, and again they're sweet talking you. A friend
- 17:39Speaker 1: of mine that lives I think they live back in
- 17:43Speaker 1: Kentucky had told me about this and then I said,
- 17:47Speaker 1: you have a picture of this person, and she sent
- 17:50Speaker 1: me a picture. They've never talked, they can never video chat.
- 17:56Speaker 1: She sent me the picture that was sent to her.
- 17:59Speaker 1: I took that picture and started doing some research on it,
- 18:02Speaker 1: and I found out that picture belonged to a doctor
- 18:04Speaker 1: that was in England, not somebody who lived in that
- 18:06Speaker 1: same state.
- 18:08Speaker 2: And it's scary, it's scary how easy it is to
- 18:16Speaker 2: assume somebody else's persona on the internet, and there's no
- 18:20Speaker 2: credible way to really verify that without meeting somebody in
- 18:24Speaker 2: person or providing information. But the big red flags are
- 18:29Speaker 2: they don't want to be on video, they don't want
- 18:31Speaker 2: to meet up in person, which I would highly right,
- 18:34Speaker 2: which you don't meet up with people on the internet
- 18:36Speaker 2: that you don't really know exactly a long standing relationship
- 18:39Speaker 2: with outside of the internet. But yeah, it's just you
- 18:44Speaker 2: gotta just be careful. And they prey on the week
- 18:46Speaker 2: and the vulnerable, which is again scary and unfortunate, but
- 18:52Speaker 2: that's this scamming over romance scams are not They're not
- 19:00Speaker 2: just on the Internet, right, they exist outside in the
- 19:03Speaker 2: real world. Also, they have for the history of time.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's just.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Unfortunate that they have. They can be more predatory online
- 19:11Speaker 2: with people.
- 19:11Speaker 1: So absolutely all right, we're gonna take quick break. We've
- 19:14Speaker 1: got a listener question about a broken laptop, so we'll
- 19:18Speaker 1: talk about that when we come back. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 19:21Speaker 1: I'm Seanda Weird.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Find us on the web at tech talk radio dot
- 19:24Speaker 2: com and give us a like or subscribe to us
- 19:26Speaker 2: on your favorite podcasting platform.
- 19:29Speaker 1: And now back to tech Talk Radio.
- 19:32Speaker 2: So before the break we mentioned a listener question and
- 19:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna go ahead and read this one and I'll
- 19:36Speaker 2: see what you guys think. This is from Cecilia and Tucson.
- 19:40Speaker 2: She said, listen to you guys when I can. And
- 19:41Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago, my son dropped his laptop.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Ooh, ooh ouch.
- 19:46Speaker 2: It's an ACEUS fifteen vo Vivo Vivo book and the
- 19:50Speaker 2: screen shattered. I can make out windows starting and they're
- 19:54Speaker 2: on a spot on the screen that didn't shatter.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Oh that's good.
- 19:57Speaker 2: And I just can I just add a monitor to
- 19:59Speaker 2: this before go buy one, just wondering if it could work.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it could, Yeah, from Sicilia in Tucson, So thank you.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yeah. So more often than not, you can just plug
- 20:11Speaker 2: in a display if it has an HDMI port or
- 20:13Speaker 2: whatever port is available. I don't know how what a
- 20:15Speaker 2: what a Asus Vivo book has, but I'm sure it's HDMI.
- 20:19Speaker 2: You can just buy any HDMI monitor, not any HDMI monitor,
- 20:23Speaker 2: but something within the resolution specs of that computer nineteen
- 20:26Speaker 2: twenty ten eighty probably is fine, and then plug it
- 20:30Speaker 2: in and it should automatically set to mirror the display,
- 20:35Speaker 2: meaning it's gonna show you what's currently on the desktop
- 20:38Speaker 2: and allow you to work. Sometimes on laptops they don't
- 20:42Speaker 2: automatically enable displays.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Oh yeah, So.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Sometimes on your keyboard you have a row of your
- 20:51Speaker 2: function keys, and then above those function keys is another icon,
- 20:55Speaker 2: like a mirroring icon or a print icon.
- 20:58Speaker 1: It might look like a little monitor, might look like.
- 21:00Speaker 2: A little monitor. Sometimes you have to press that with
- 21:03Speaker 2: the function key pressed. Also to enable screen sharing, I
- 21:07Speaker 2: would just google the Asus fifteen inch VVO and see
- 21:12Speaker 2: how it enables screen sharing more often than not. By default,
- 21:15Speaker 2: you plug in an HDMI monitor, it's going to already
- 21:19Speaker 2: add the second display. That's just how most computers are
- 21:22Speaker 2: built in. But laptops are a little bit different. So yes,
- 21:26Speaker 2: you could run it in desktop mode and not actually
- 21:29Speaker 2: have it as a laptop. And we've talked about this
- 21:32Speaker 2: before where people have their laptops and they mostly use
- 21:36Speaker 2: them on the desk, they even plugged in. Leaving a
- 21:39Speaker 2: laptop plugged in is not going to harm your computer.
- 21:42Speaker 2: It's no, it will over time, it'll it'll keeping a
- 21:46Speaker 2: battery at full charge will and not cycling it all
- 21:49Speaker 2: the time, cycling it down. It's like up will degrade
- 21:52Speaker 2: the total life of the battery over time, so in
- 21:57Speaker 2: two three years you may see a fifteen percent in
- 22:00Speaker 2: the total battery capacity, meaning at one hundred percent, it'll
- 22:04Speaker 2: tell you it's one hundred percent full, but it really
- 22:06Speaker 2: only has seventy five percent of its original total charge,
- 22:09Speaker 2: which is significant, which is less obviously, but it's having
- 22:14Speaker 2: it plugged in is not going to It's not going
- 22:16Speaker 2: to destroy the battery. It's not going to catch on fire,
- 22:18Speaker 2: it's not gonna explode, et cetera. So you could run
- 22:22Speaker 2: it just sitting on a desktop, plug into a monitor
- 22:24Speaker 2: of the mouse and a keyboard wired in, or Bluetooth,
- 22:26Speaker 2: et cetera.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Well, you know that that kind of breaks up a
- 22:29Speaker 1: good question, Sean, though, And I wonder like about you,
- 22:32Speaker 1: and I know how I operate, But do you shut
- 22:36Speaker 1: down your computer tonight? I know some people leave them on.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I shut mine down every night, even.
- 22:42Speaker 2: You know, yeah, I my this the rig that I'm
- 22:46Speaker 2: on now, I shut down every night. I don't shut
- 22:49Speaker 2: down my plex server every night, because that would just
- 22:52Speaker 2: be one lest thing I'd have to remember, and then
- 22:54Speaker 2: Kate would want to go watch something and should be mad.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Becauson is off right, so I don't reboot, I don't
- 22:58Speaker 2: reboot my Plex server, and I don't turn off my
- 23:02Speaker 2: Mac Minie.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Really, why is that?
- 23:05Speaker 2: Because I just forget. Oh, to be honest, it's it's
- 23:09Speaker 2: over there, plugged in another screen. The screen's off. I
- 23:11Speaker 2: don't think it's on. And the macs are good about
- 23:14Speaker 2: sleeping on their own and they're not probably maybe drawing
- 23:17Speaker 2: a couple of watts of power at the most. But
- 23:21Speaker 2: you know, my big, my main rig would draw more
- 23:23Speaker 2: power if it was idle. But I shut it down
- 23:25Speaker 2: every night because, for one, it gets me in the
- 23:27Speaker 2: habit of if there's updates, I just tell the update
- 23:30Speaker 2: and shut down. Which is the biggest lie in the
- 23:32Speaker 2: world of computers, is doing an update and shutting down
- 23:36Speaker 2: because you know it's gonna reboot.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, it's gonna be on.
- 23:39Speaker 2: It's gonna be on at the splash screen for logging
- 23:42Speaker 2: in when you come back, because it didn't actually shut down.
- 23:44Speaker 1: My Microsoft has been a direct trying to address that recently.
- 23:47Speaker 1: I know that.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's it's just a funny. It's just in
- 23:51Speaker 2: the world of computers, like somebody, it's the biggest lie
- 23:54Speaker 2: you can be told, like the computer world right now
- 23:55Speaker 2: is update and shut down. Yeah, yeah, but it keeps
- 23:59Speaker 2: in the habit of keeping up to date. Now again,
- 24:03Speaker 2: I don't really care about like finding new bugs and
- 24:08Speaker 2: new versions of software. Like it's fine for me. I'm
- 24:10Speaker 2: a little bit more patient with technology than most people.
- 24:14Speaker 2: And uh so a lot of people don't like auto
- 24:16Speaker 2: updates because if you're on a version of Windows or
- 24:19Speaker 2: a software that you like, and they update it and
- 24:23Speaker 2: take away a piece of quality of life thing you liked,
- 24:25Speaker 2: or they removed a feature, or they added a feature
- 24:28Speaker 2: that does something that breaks a piece of software or
- 24:31Speaker 2: a piece of hardware. So like on my personal stuff,
- 24:35Speaker 2: I don't care. I don't have that much that's tied together.
- 24:37Speaker 2: That's that's like it' stop mission critical for me. So
- 24:39Speaker 2: it's like if I have to revert or reinstall Windows
- 24:42Speaker 2: like that, whatever, I'll be fine. But at work, we
- 24:47Speaker 2: there's been there's our computers that accept like major power
- 24:50Speaker 2: outages or planned outages haven't been rebooted more than a
- 24:55Speaker 2: dozen times since I've been there in eight years. So
- 24:58Speaker 2: some computers are designed to stay on some or not.
- 25:01Speaker 2: But like for my home rings, that guy turned them
- 25:03Speaker 2: off right now, there's no reason for him to be on.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Yeah. I had somebody the other day asked me about
- 25:09Speaker 1: building a system for them, and it was funny because
- 25:13Speaker 1: you talk about you know, people are using their systems
- 25:15Speaker 1: from twenty ten is what his system was. And he
- 25:19Speaker 1: said finally, he said, hey, can can you build me
- 25:21Speaker 1: a new system? I thought, yeah, But then I started
- 25:24Speaker 1: thinking about it. Right now, it's not a good time
- 25:27Speaker 1: to build, is it is?
- 25:28Speaker 2: It is not a good time to build computer right
- 25:30Speaker 2: now because of the RAM prices right right, So the
- 25:35Speaker 2: last four or five years, even a little bit longer,
- 25:39Speaker 2: it's been predominantly video card supply, right yeah, keeping up
- 25:43Speaker 2: with you know, started with the twenty sixties and the
- 25:46Speaker 2: thirty sixties and the you know, the thirty eighties, and
- 25:49Speaker 2: then then the forty eighties, and now we're into the
- 25:50Speaker 2: fifty eighties and the fifty nineties and all that stuff,
- 25:53Speaker 2: and you know, exorbitant prices, lack of supply, et cetera,
- 25:57Speaker 2: drove the GPU market up very high. Right well, now
- 26:03Speaker 2: with all the AI stuff coming in and all these
- 26:06Speaker 2: data centers being built, there is a significant demand on
- 26:10Speaker 2: the current d d R five RAM supply. And we
- 26:15Speaker 2: haven't talked about this yet on the show. But so
- 26:18Speaker 2: you know what's going on with with Crucial, right YEA.
- 26:22Speaker 1: They eliminated the Crucial brand. Micron eliminated the Crucial.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Micron, who is a has been a predominantly successful, I
- 26:30Speaker 2: mean very very successful OEM and consumer supplier for RAM
- 26:36Speaker 2: and solid state drives, said we're out of the consumer business.
- 26:41Speaker 2: We're taking we're no longer providing any RAM or solid
- 26:44Speaker 2: state drives the Crucial brand.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I have a Crucial, Yeah, I've got.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure that was one of the first solid
- 26:52Speaker 2: state drives ever bought because it was cheap. They just said,
- 26:55Speaker 2: we're out of the consumer business. Done. Unless you're an
- 26:58Speaker 2: OEM vendor, we're not selling to you. And it it
- 27:03Speaker 2: lit a big fire under the industry. And RAM prices
- 27:07Speaker 2: just they're up like six hundred percent. So if you
- 27:11Speaker 2: go to buy like thirty two gigs of RAM six
- 27:15Speaker 2: months okay, this is I.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Mean, this is this price, this is different.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Happens so fast. If you can go onto new Egg
- 27:22Speaker 2: and Amazon and look at the price tracker and see
- 27:24Speaker 2: just see this huge spike. Six months ago, thirty two
- 27:28Speaker 2: gigs of RAM would have cost you eighty nine.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Dollars one hundred dollars one hundred bucks.
- 27:33Speaker 2: DDR five maybe not the fastest clocking speed right for
- 27:37Speaker 2: the fastest frequency, But now you're looking at three hundred
- 27:40Speaker 2: and fifty four hundred dollars for thirty two gigs of
- 27:43Speaker 2: RAM because the supply is so tight right now. So
- 27:49Speaker 2: I feel like all of my friends that I've helped
- 27:51Speaker 2: build their computers in the last six months to two years.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Built their computers at the right time because now every
- 27:58Speaker 1: good level.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Because we you know, I always said, like, let's just
- 28:00Speaker 2: get you thirty two gigs. I know it's gonna be
- 28:02Speaker 2: a little bit more now, Like you maybe spend one
- 28:04Speaker 2: hundred and twenty bucks on thirty two ks, but that's
- 28:06Speaker 2: gonna last you for five six years. Well you could
- 28:09Speaker 2: rip that out and sell it and buy a whole
- 28:11Speaker 2: new machine.
- 28:12Speaker 1: That's that. It's that high right now.
- 28:14Speaker 2: It is that high. It's ridiculous.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I'm wondering though, Like, Okay, so you look at some
- 28:18Speaker 1: of the vendors like Dell and you know the other
- 28:22Speaker 1: ones that are building computers HP. Are they are they
- 28:27Speaker 1: absorbing some of that in the cost or are we
- 28:30Speaker 1: seeing towers now that they're putting out those prices are
- 28:33Speaker 1: going up as well.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Well, So so the the oem like it's it's weird,
- 28:39Speaker 2: right because I was talking to a friend who's very
- 28:41Speaker 2: good with economics and this kind of stuff. He's like,
- 28:43Speaker 2: a lot of these vendors probably already have their prices
- 28:47Speaker 2: locked in for five six years, right Like Apple, I
- 28:51Speaker 2: guarantee already has you know, with microd or whoever their
- 28:55Speaker 2: ransom buyer is probably said, you know, for the next
- 28:58Speaker 2: five years, we're gonna buy this many units of RAM
- 29:02Speaker 2: at this price. The contract change, even if the price
- 29:05Speaker 2: is changed, we get them at this price. So I
- 29:09Speaker 2: don't know if you're going to see you're gonna see
- 29:11Speaker 2: some change in price because obviously there's a demand for it.
- 29:15Speaker 2: So why wouldn't a vendor charge more money for it
- 29:17Speaker 2: if there's a demand for it, because it's all about
- 29:19Speaker 2: making money. But you're still seeing actually a pretty steady
- 29:23Speaker 2: stream of supply of pre built machines that are still
- 29:27Speaker 2: decently priced, but people are buying them, taking the RAM
- 29:31Speaker 2: out and then reselling the RAM for more money people,
- 29:36Speaker 2: which is which is weird because it's not always you know,
- 29:39Speaker 2: pre built machines don't always have what their options are
- 29:41Speaker 2: and stuff. I think you're going to see a trend
- 29:43Speaker 2: upwards and price but gaming PCs specifically are going to
- 29:49Speaker 2: be driven up prices wise. Now, what does this mean
- 29:54Speaker 2: for the Steam machine? Right? So think about it, right,
- 29:59Speaker 2: Steam machines are mostly they're already built. So is Steam
- 30:02Speaker 2: gonna say, well, maybe we should raise their prices because
- 30:05Speaker 2: of the cost of the RAM we put in them,
- 30:07Speaker 2: or do they keep their prices at for for my
- 30:12Speaker 2: opinion is if the Steam machine costs more than eight
- 30:14Speaker 2: hundred dollars, it's gonna be an ultimate failure for Steam.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Nobody's gonna buy a Steam machine that's gonna play majority
- 30:20Speaker 2: of games at ten ADP. Nobody's gonna buy that for
- 30:22Speaker 2: more than eight hundred dollars like I would. Just but
- 30:25Speaker 2: you can't build your own computer for one hundred dollars
- 30:27Speaker 2: right now because of RAM prices. Yeah, so what are
- 30:29Speaker 2: you gonna do? And so what does that mean for
- 30:33Speaker 2: Steam sale? Because if somebody's looking at building your computer
- 30:35Speaker 2: to play most of their Steam library, which is most
- 30:38Speaker 2: of the games that are out there right now. Anyways,
- 30:42Speaker 2: why wouldn't you buy a Steam machine? Yeah, if you're
- 30:45Speaker 2: looking for a decent gaming computer that could play most
- 30:47Speaker 2: of the games you're already going to be playing that
- 30:50Speaker 2: are outside of steam. Why wouldn't you buy a machine?
- 30:53Speaker 1: People are gonna have to really be careful shopping, I mean.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Right, and the typosca of buying something. There's a scam
- 31:03Speaker 2: right now. Right, we talked about this last week. Somebody
- 31:05Speaker 2: bought a fifty nine d and got a box of rocks, right,
- 31:11Speaker 2: so they think about it, Right, you buy a four
- 31:16Speaker 2: two sticks of ram and you get Yeah, I'll just
- 31:20Speaker 2: slip in old RAM or something that looks similar, ship
- 31:23Speaker 2: it back, hopefully it doesn't get conton returns, may get
- 31:25Speaker 2: my money back, and then somebody else down the line
- 31:28Speaker 2: gets pack of socks or whatever, a pack of bricks, whatever.
- 31:32Speaker 2: That scam is just going to exist. We're taking advantage
- 31:37Speaker 2: of the Amazon return system, which is we take back
- 31:40Speaker 2: anything and give your money back because it's cheaper for
- 31:42Speaker 2: us to just do that than to try and fight
- 31:44Speaker 2: it or deal with it or put a human on it. Right. So,
- 31:47Speaker 2: but that scam is happening across a lot of online
- 31:50Speaker 2: retailers that just are churning out content. Right. It's like
- 31:54Speaker 2: you get a return in, it gets scanned, it gets
- 31:56Speaker 2: shipped right back up to the next person that bought
- 31:58Speaker 2: it without a human touching it, which is why people
- 32:02Speaker 2: are getting bricks.
- 32:03Speaker 1: So you say so, I mean you say, like, you
- 32:05Speaker 1: know these data centers that are requiring more, you know,
- 32:09Speaker 1: are we also going to see this in storage? I mean,
- 32:11Speaker 1: we're seeing ram but I'm just wondering is there storage
- 32:15Speaker 1: that it's going to be affected by this? And people
- 32:17Speaker 1: are already talking about digital rot now with SSDs, you know,
- 32:21Speaker 1: I'm just wondering if we're going to see this with
- 32:23Speaker 1: M two's and other forms of storage.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think we will yep.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Or you're just gonna have a piece of hardware that
- 32:34Speaker 2: interfaces with the cloud and you're not gonna have any
- 32:35Speaker 2: storage on your machine.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Gonna stream it off from the cloud, which sounds awful,
- 32:41Speaker 2: but that's what people are doing with video games right now, right,
- 32:43Speaker 2: So think about it, right, if you lived in a
- 32:45Speaker 2: world where you could just have a screen and a
- 32:48Speaker 2: keyboard and a little bit of processing power, no storage.
- 32:52Speaker 2: It just connects to the internet and you stream all
- 32:54Speaker 2: of your files from the internet.
- 32:56Speaker 1: All right, we go, we gotta take quick break. We
- 32:57Speaker 1: come back. We're gonna be talking with Linda Chorney. Linda
- 33:00Speaker 1: is an author, she's a songwriter, a performer, Grammy nominated
- 33:06Speaker 1: artists that is also a filmmaker, director. I've usually got
- 33:12Speaker 1: a lot under her belt. It's a great person, good
- 33:14Speaker 1: friend of mine. We're going to be talking about her
- 33:16Speaker 1: new audiobook which is now available today on this Saturday,
- 33:20Speaker 1: the twentieth, and it's all about independent music and what
- 33:23Speaker 1: she did that was a little different. When we come
- 33:25Speaker 1: back with tech talk Radio, I'm Andy Taylor.
- 33:27Speaker 2: I'm trying to warn emails your questions and we'll read
- 33:29Speaker 2: them on their give me an answer tech guys at
- 33:32Speaker 2: tech talk radio dot com. Hold back now back to
- 33:35Speaker 2: tech talk Radio.
- 33:36Speaker 1: We talk about so many cool things on this show.
- 33:40Speaker 1: And you know, yes we talked tech. We talked the
- 33:43Speaker 1: latest products, the latest gadgets, but we also talk about
- 33:46Speaker 1: how this technology impacts our lifestyle and how there's so
- 33:50Speaker 1: many people that are using technology now to kind of
- 33:54Speaker 1: broaden their audience. You know, we've had directors on the show.
- 33:57Speaker 1: We've had actors, actresses, producers, we have had just about
- 34:01Speaker 1: everybody on the show. And it's so cool to have
- 34:04Speaker 1: a friend to come on the show that is using
- 34:08Speaker 1: technology that is well helping her expand her reach as well.
- 34:12Speaker 1: And I want to welcome to the show Linda Chorney,
- 34:15Speaker 1: who is a writer, an actor, a director, a singer, songwriter, performer,
- 34:23Speaker 1: Grammy nominated artist, and I love her profile. Actually calls
- 34:27Speaker 1: her a rebel.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Linda.
- 34:30Speaker 1: It's so good to have you on the show. Thanks
- 34:32Speaker 1: for coming on Tech Talk Radio.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 34:34Speaker 4: But most importantly, I say I'm a jacks of all trades, yes,
- 34:38Speaker 4: which means I'm.
- 34:41Speaker 3: Technologically challenged, are you.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Well see I've been technologically challenged as well. I can't
- 34:48Speaker 1: even say the word, but it's.
- 34:49Speaker 4: I know, let's say it five times past technological technological, technological, technological, technological.
- 34:56Speaker 1: You knocked it out of the park. Actually, and that's
- 34:59Speaker 1: what we're hoping to see with your brand new book
- 35:02Speaker 1: available today, which is great. People can go on and
- 35:06Speaker 1: get this audio book, which is you know, it's kind
- 35:09Speaker 1: of a journey. It ain't over till the indie things
- 35:14Speaker 1: in your world of music. Now. First off, Linda tell
- 35:16Speaker 1: us a little bit of background for our listeners that
- 35:19Speaker 1: maybe have not been able to understand what has happened
- 35:23Speaker 1: over the last twenty years when it comes to your music.
- 35:26Speaker 3: What I'm not a household name.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Well you are for us, but you.
- 35:30Speaker 3: Know I'm not first.
- 35:31Speaker 4: I want to say hi to your audience. And is
- 35:35Speaker 4: everybody a techie who listens pretty much?
- 35:37Speaker 1: No, we have people that are just you know, getting
- 35:40Speaker 1: into computers technology, smartphones, or people that like to get
- 35:44Speaker 1: online and find really cool websites or find books. You know,
- 35:49Speaker 1: We've got great book clubs in Green Valley, Tucson and
- 35:54Speaker 1: all over the United States where they listen to this
- 35:56Speaker 1: show and around the world that want to be able
- 35:59Speaker 1: to learn more about the people behind the books. And
- 36:02Speaker 1: we've had many authors on and it's great to have
- 36:04Speaker 1: you on because you take a look at the world
- 36:07Speaker 1: of music that has changed so much in the last
- 36:09Speaker 1: twenty years.
- 36:11Speaker 4: It has Yeah, so basically my story and the reason
- 36:16Speaker 4: I was full of myself enough to make a book
- 36:20Speaker 4: about my life story is because something remarkable happened to me.
- 36:25Speaker 4: I'm not a spoiler alert, but I played in bars
- 36:29Speaker 4: for forty years and tried to make it to the top,
- 36:32Speaker 4: just like everybody else. And my biggest fear was to
- 36:37Speaker 4: end up on a cruise ship singing Jimmy Buffet tunes
- 36:41Speaker 4: in my eighties. Wearing depends so miraculously through amazing circumstances.
- 36:51Speaker 4: My sixth album, My Man at the time, I'm not
- 36:57Speaker 4: going to give everything away, forced me to put my
- 37:01Speaker 4: sixth album into the Grammys, where I used technology to
- 37:07Speaker 4: spread the word of my album.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Absolutely, and that was really that's really when people were
- 37:12Speaker 1: finding that they could use social media, that they could
- 37:15Speaker 1: use ways to get there.
- 37:17Speaker 3: That really wasn't it actually wasn't social media. This is
- 37:20Speaker 3: the way this was back in the day.
- 37:22Speaker 1: This is even before that.
- 37:23Speaker 3: This before that.
- 37:25Speaker 4: Uh, the the Recording Academy slash Grammys set up their
- 37:30Speaker 4: own website, you know, where they're the masters and could
- 37:35Speaker 4: monitor so you're doing everything on the up and up.
- 37:40Speaker 4: They enabled fellow members to share their music, and so
- 37:46Speaker 4: I when I was on with Huge Stars, I'm like, oh,
- 37:50Speaker 4: this is impossible, but my name is on the list.
- 37:53Speaker 4: So if it's on it, I'm in it, and I'm
- 37:57Speaker 4: going to be in it to win it. So I
- 37:59Speaker 4: figured out mathmatically. By the way, my dad is a
- 38:02Speaker 4: PhD from MIT in EE. He's a technical guy, so
- 38:08Speaker 4: maybe I got just a tiny bit of it, and
- 38:11Speaker 4: I dropped out of.
- 38:12Speaker 3: College, so it's a little different.
- 38:15Speaker 4: Anyway, I figured well, statistically speaking, the more people I
- 38:20Speaker 4: reach out to the more chance I'm gonna have of
- 38:25Speaker 4: them listening to my music and potentially voting for me.
- 38:29Speaker 4: And because of that, I unfortunately am a procrastinator and
- 38:36Speaker 4: did not do what I was told. Apparently, you need
- 38:39Speaker 4: to have the contacts that accepted, just like in Facebook,
- 38:44Speaker 4: in order to communicate with him, And somebody told me
- 38:48Speaker 4: six months before, well, Linda, first, you're gonna have to
- 38:51Speaker 4: get contacts on this particular site in order to communicate,
- 38:55Speaker 4: and I didn't do any because I thought the whole
- 38:58Speaker 4: idea was far fetched. I'm like, what are they have
- 39:00Speaker 4: a menopausal music award? It's like I might have a
- 39:03Speaker 4: chance at that I was fifty years old. So anyway,
- 39:09Speaker 4: three weeks left before the ballots are due, I spent
- 39:13Speaker 4: every waking moment reaching out to people and lo and
- 39:16Speaker 4: behold and not to sound full of myself, but it
- 39:18Speaker 4: was a really good album and people responded to the music,
- 39:22Speaker 4: and basically all help broke loose with the gatekeepers of
- 39:27Speaker 4: the industry after my nomination and if their guy didn't
- 39:32Speaker 4: get in, it was my fault.
- 39:33Speaker 3: I got death threats.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Blah blah blah.
- 39:35Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, that is part one of the trilogy
- 39:38Speaker 4: is that whole thing. And then part two of the
- 39:42Speaker 4: trilogy is basically, what do I do with this Grammy
- 39:46Speaker 4: nomination that I think is gonna launch me? And the
- 39:50Speaker 4: entire industry just tried to ruin me, made up stories
- 39:53Speaker 4: about me. I'm not gonna spoil it, so it's all
- 39:56Speaker 4: in the book, but I made a movie about it
- 39:59Speaker 4: because to get the story out if it's the last
- 40:02Speaker 4: thing I do technically speaking. Now, so I'm a DIY
- 40:08Speaker 4: all the way. I mean, the only way an independent
- 40:11Speaker 4: artist can put out their stuff without a big budget
- 40:15Speaker 4: is to do whatever they can buy themselves, even if
- 40:18Speaker 4: it kills them. So when I made this movie, which
- 40:22Speaker 4: I'd never made a movie before, and part two talks
- 40:24Speaker 4: about how the hell do you make a movie when
- 40:25Speaker 4: you've never made one before and end up having it
- 40:29Speaker 4: be multi award winning, which it was.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Now, is this is it a documentary movie? I mean
- 40:34Speaker 1: when I sing, is the actual story about you changing
- 40:38Speaker 1: the system and saying this is what I'm gonna do,
- 40:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna get noticed?
- 40:42Speaker 4: Yeah, well this is the story. No, it's more about
- 40:46Speaker 4: It's not about getting noticed. It's more about being in
- 40:49Speaker 4: my shoes thinking this was going to be my big break,
- 40:52Speaker 4: and the industry planting a really not too nice publicist
- 41:00Speaker 4: on me and doing all sorts of stuff. And so
- 41:02Speaker 4: I made the movie now, not knowing how to make
- 41:06Speaker 4: a movie. We're talking technical there's I had a producer,
- 41:10Speaker 4: I had adults in the room to help me make
- 41:12Speaker 4: this thing. But we dropped a lot of money. I
- 41:14Speaker 4: put my own cash into it, and so but I
- 41:18Speaker 4: saved money. I wore a lot of hats. Now, the
- 41:21Speaker 4: one thing the guy says, Linda, you have to have.
- 41:24Speaker 3: A script supervisor. If you don't have a script supervisors
- 41:26Speaker 3: and no good. I'm like, what do I need that for?
- 41:28Speaker 3: Why can't I do it? Now?
- 41:29Speaker 4: The script supervisor make sure that your drink is filled
- 41:33Speaker 4: exactly at the same spot, make sure your hair is
- 41:35Speaker 4: at the same thing. For continuity, you have to have that.
- 41:38Speaker 4: So I said, okay, we'll pay for that now. Later
- 41:43Speaker 4: on in the film, I managed to score the location
- 41:47Speaker 4: of the century, which is Fenway Park. I won't tell
- 41:51Speaker 4: you why, but I was able to get in there
- 41:53Speaker 4: and recreate.
- 41:54Speaker 3: Me singing the national anthem at Fenway Park.
- 41:57Speaker 4: And so I got the footage back and realized that
- 42:02Speaker 4: I had a snot flake in my noise.
- 42:06Speaker 3: In my nostril.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Now you had to pay a special effects guy to
- 42:09Speaker 1: take that out.
- 42:10Speaker 4: I I had frame by frame. Yeah, I learned how
- 42:14Speaker 4: to edit. That's some of the technical stuff. And if
- 42:17Speaker 4: I did it on other issues with editing, we got
- 42:20Speaker 4: a professional editor. Yeah, but I actually did a great
- 42:24Speaker 4: deal of the editing myself. And I learned how to
- 42:27Speaker 4: sink sound right, which is not the easiest thing in
- 42:31Speaker 4: the rook.
- 42:32Speaker 1: So you learn the process. Although you know me, the
- 42:35Speaker 1: tech side of me has to ask Youlinda, and we
- 42:39Speaker 1: talked to filmmakers Ted Sally not long ago put together
- 42:42Speaker 1: the Postal documentary. Did you find a preference when it
- 42:46Speaker 1: came to editing? Got the Adobe Premiere pro, You've got
- 42:50Speaker 1: Final Cut? Of course you're in the the Apple ecosphere,
- 42:53Speaker 1: but you've also got Da Vinci. Did you have a
- 42:56Speaker 1: preference when you know kind of picking that up?
- 42:59Speaker 4: I Final Cut pro, so part of I actually made
- 43:03Speaker 4: another documentary before I made the fature film.
- 43:06Speaker 3: But I mean I.
- 43:06Speaker 4: Went and took classes at the Apple Store, and then
- 43:11Speaker 4: if I was stuck, I would just go for tutorials
- 43:14Speaker 4: online which are fantastic and they tell you, okay, click
- 43:18Speaker 4: this and click that and pretty much any.
- 43:21Speaker 3: More on can make a movie, right, I am living proof.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Of it now this did this give you the kind
- 43:27Speaker 1: of hoot spot to say I want to make a
- 43:30Speaker 1: comedy series, which you did, which I was able to
- 43:35Speaker 1: be a part of, and of course I got a
- 43:38Speaker 1: pie in the face think and delivered by you. So
- 43:41Speaker 1: that was good in Saving Bernie, which a lot of
- 43:44Speaker 1: people have been able to see. They can I think
- 43:47Speaker 1: they could still see it. I saw it on Vimeo.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Did that kind of give you the idea I want
- 43:51Speaker 1: to do a series and just say, you know, throw
- 43:54Speaker 1: caution to the wind. I'm going to do this. That's
- 43:56Speaker 1: the thing. The technology scares a lot of people that
- 43:59Speaker 1: they do don't jump in, but you did.
- 44:01Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing.
- 44:04Speaker 4: I didn't know what to do with myself after the nomination,
- 44:07Speaker 4: Thinking it was going to launch me. I made the
- 44:09Speaker 4: movie which is on Amazon. You can still see what
- 44:12Speaker 4: I'm seeing on Amazon, yep. And then I made Saving
- 44:17Speaker 4: Bernie because I bought this Bernie doll.
- 44:21Speaker 3: And I started looking like Bernie Sanders. I do believe
- 44:25Speaker 3: every independent, all this should be entitled to healthcare.
- 44:29Speaker 4: Yes, And so I made up this whole crazy story
- 44:33Speaker 4: about how a mad Russian scientist mad moment of sugar
- 44:38Speaker 4: shrunk Bernie into a six inch Bernie and it goes
- 44:43Speaker 4: from there. And Andy, you were kind enough to be
- 44:45Speaker 4: in the opening scene, Yes, yes, and take a pie
- 44:49Speaker 4: in the face for the country.
- 44:50Speaker 1: It was a good tasting pie, so that was very good.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I was happy to be a part of it. And
- 44:54Speaker 1: thank you. You have this book and a lot of
- 44:58Speaker 1: people were reading it, people that want to get into music,
- 45:01Speaker 1: that have been doing music, that said, boy, this book
- 45:05Speaker 1: can help me. What made you decide then to say
- 45:08Speaker 1: I'm going to take my story and put it as
- 45:11Speaker 1: an audio book.
- 45:12Speaker 3: For me, it's just therapy, and I believe it's.
- 45:16Speaker 4: It's you know, it's it's not a tutorial of how
- 45:19Speaker 4: to Okay, it's there, but that's not my objective. My
- 45:24Speaker 4: objective was just to tell an unbelievable story where so
- 45:29Speaker 4: many people will relate. Whether you're an athlete and an academic,
- 45:34Speaker 4: or a musician or an artist, anyone's going to relate
- 45:37Speaker 4: to the ups and downs, the rejection, how you get
- 45:42Speaker 4: up again.
- 45:43Speaker 3: You know, it's it's it's not about making it to
- 45:46Speaker 3: the top.
- 45:47Speaker 4: It's about hanging off the edge of a cliff and
- 45:49Speaker 4: mooning the bad guys at the same time and having fun.
- 45:54Speaker 3: Really, it's just a real honest story.
- 45:57Speaker 4: And part three the reason I had one book already,
- 46:01Speaker 4: but it was not an audiobook. I had such a
- 46:04Speaker 4: blast doing the audiobook, and by the way, I did
- 46:06Speaker 4: it all myself on pro tools at home. But then
- 46:10Speaker 4: I had the wonderful Jordan Rich from WBZ who's now
- 46:14Speaker 4: on iHeartRadio. Incredible voice, great voice. Yeah, he was part
- 46:19Speaker 4: of the narration. We kind of play play with each other.
- 46:23Speaker 4: He has chart productions. They did the mastering because there's
- 46:27Speaker 4: something called ac X. ACX is the volume levels that
- 46:33Speaker 4: have to pass the test in order to get on
- 46:35Speaker 4: to I have it on Apple Books, I have it
- 46:38Speaker 4: on Spotify. I did not put it on Audible. Why
- 46:43Speaker 4: Audible A requires a seven year contract. Audible also requires
- 46:47Speaker 4: you to print have the print book available. I feel
- 46:51Speaker 4: my audiobook it can't be translated because I'm going who, like,
- 46:55Speaker 4: how do you spell that? And there's there's a lot
- 46:59Speaker 4: more prov in the book, like off the coff I
- 47:02Speaker 4: say stuff, and there's music in the book. But anyway,
- 47:05Speaker 4: I had it mastered, even though I did the editing
- 47:07Speaker 4: myself and the whole thing.
- 47:09Speaker 3: But my dad was one of the editors of the book.
- 47:11Speaker 4: Joyce Mackenzie was an editor of the book and then
- 47:13Speaker 4: of the audiobook content, which is different from the print book.
- 47:17Speaker 3: It goes way out there.
- 47:21Speaker 4: I had Lee Shanon, who teach the teaches at the
- 47:25Speaker 4: u of A, and A is a brilliant writer.
- 47:28Speaker 3: EJ.
- 47:28Speaker 4: Willlette from Massachusetts and Trevor Suul from the UK.
- 47:32Speaker 3: They they tried to pull the reins back.
- 47:35Speaker 4: On me a little bit on the audio content editing,
- 47:40Speaker 4: and then Chart Productions did the professional, polished job on
- 47:44Speaker 4: the end. So in part three you're not going to
- 47:48Speaker 4: believe is stranger than fiction, which is why I even
- 47:52Speaker 4: bothered having.
- 47:53Speaker 3: A second book, because I'm not going to give it away.
- 47:56Speaker 3: But it's nuts. What happened to me after the ten
- 48:01Speaker 3: years after my first nomination. More nuts than saving Bernie.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Awesome. I am looking forward to this. It's available today
- 48:08Speaker 1: an audiobook. Linda Chorney of course give us the full
- 48:13Speaker 1: title of it.
- 48:13Speaker 4: It's called it Ain't Over Till the Indie Sings right
- 48:16Speaker 4: now until December thirty.
- 48:17Speaker 3: First, it's only fifteen bucks, then it goes up.
- 48:20Speaker 4: Oh, by the way, the other thing, Audible doesn't let
- 48:22Speaker 4: you price it yourself, Spotify and Apple, Yeah, Cobo.
- 48:27Speaker 3: They let you put your own price on it as well.
- 48:30Speaker 1: That's good.
- 48:30Speaker 3: So that's why I didn't go to audible.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's not a crazy price as well. Again,
- 48:35Speaker 1: our listeners can can check that out and they'll have
- 48:37Speaker 1: a lot of fun reading that. I want to thank
- 48:39Speaker 1: you so much for coming on. It's great to see
- 48:41Speaker 1: you again, great to talk to you, and we'll look
- 48:44Speaker 1: forward to you know again. Out now, Pie in the face.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Every time I eat pie, I think of that seat.
- 48:51Speaker 4: I love you.
- 48:51Speaker 3: It's great, so much fun.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 48:54Speaker 3: I don't know how technical this was, but.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Well, you know, I want to remind our listeners that
- 48:59Speaker 1: when they have a dream, when they're thinking I want
- 49:02Speaker 1: to write a book, or I want to I want
- 49:04Speaker 1: to perform music, I want to make a movie, you
- 49:06Speaker 1: have done all of those. So I think that that's
- 49:09Speaker 1: the best advice you could give to somebody that is
- 49:11Speaker 1: thinking about it. Yeah.
- 49:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't want to steal from Nike, but yeah,
- 49:16Speaker 4: if you really.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Want to do it, you can't. Doesn't mean it's.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Gonna be good, but give it a shot.
- 49:22Speaker 3: But have fun doing it. We only have we only
- 49:25Speaker 3: have one ride here.
- 49:26Speaker 4: That's right, So if you want to tell your story,
- 49:28Speaker 4: tell your story. Don't let anybody here's don't let anybody
- 49:32Speaker 4: else control your stuff. Yeah, number one, Number two, don't compromise.
- 49:36Speaker 4: Number three, don't suck up to anybody to get ahead you.
- 49:40Speaker 4: If you if you sense a yellow flag when you
- 49:43Speaker 4: talk to somebody, even though you know they can further
- 49:46Speaker 4: your career or your whatever your objective is, run away.
- 49:51Speaker 3: Yeah, say like.
- 49:52Speaker 4: There's something wrong with this person. Just trust your gut,
- 49:55Speaker 4: do it by yourself. Don't go for the carrot, the
- 49:59Speaker 4: dangling rotten carrot.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Absolutely well, then, once again, thank you Linden. We'll definitely
- 50:04Speaker 1: keep a touch looking forward to the sequel. And if
- 50:07Speaker 1: I have to take a pie, I would do it
- 50:08Speaker 1: for you any day.
- 50:11Speaker 3: That is the nicest thing anyone's ever said.
- 50:14Speaker 1: We'll be back with more of tech Talk Radio and
- 50:17Speaker 1: now fact to tech Talk Radio. Did you ever play
- 50:22Speaker 1: tomb Raider? Of course, Yeah. If you're a fan of
- 50:25Speaker 1: tomb Rader, you'd be happy to know. Legacy of Atlantis
- 50:29Speaker 1: is going to be coming out for the PlayStation five
- 50:31Speaker 1: Xbox series xs PC next year. But it's basically a
- 50:36Speaker 1: reboot of the tomb Raider series and It's so funny
- 50:39Speaker 1: because I remember playing the original tumb Raider and you
- 50:42Speaker 1: look at the graphics that then versus what you get now,
- 50:46Speaker 1: and it's mind blowing.
- 50:47Speaker 2: That game came out in the early nineties nineties, Yeah,
- 50:52Speaker 2: so like ninety eight maybe for PlayStation, and that's when
- 50:55Speaker 2: I was big in a PlayStation game. So tumb Rader
- 50:58Speaker 2: the storyline is incredible. If you play the game, it's
- 51:00Speaker 2: really really good. The storyline's great, puzzles adventure. It's an
- 51:04Speaker 2: action RPG, right, It's like it's it's a very fun game,
- 51:08Speaker 2: and for the time, it was kind of a mind
- 51:10Speaker 2: blowing game style that didn't exist, and the scope of
- 51:16Speaker 2: it and the size and the breadth, it was just
- 51:17Speaker 2: really good.
- 51:18Speaker 1: There'll be another one called Catalyst that will also be
- 51:21Speaker 1: available for all those platforms that'll come out not till
- 51:24Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven. So again, two Marator fans, some of
- 51:27Speaker 1: you got to see that there's a trailer available already
- 51:30Speaker 1: for Legacy of Atlantis is what it's called. You could
- 51:32Speaker 1: find that online and check that one out. You had
- 51:35Speaker 1: a good weekend. You gotta connect with some friends, and
- 51:38Speaker 1: that sounds like that was a good time.
- 51:40Speaker 2: A friend of mine is turning forty this year. And
- 51:42Speaker 2: then towards the end of this of December, and he said,
- 51:44Speaker 2: I want to get a couple guys together and just
- 51:46Speaker 2: marathon Lord of the Rings, play video games and playboard games.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Wow.
- 51:50Speaker 2: I was like, I'm in. So the last two days
- 51:54Speaker 2: actually I just got be before we started recording the show.
- 51:56Speaker 2: I had just driven back from Wabash, Indiana nice where
- 51:59Speaker 2: we rented a small cottage with three bedrooms three beds,
- 52:04Speaker 2: and we just hung out, put on Lord of the Rings,
- 52:07Speaker 2: played a couple of board games. We all had our handheld,
- 52:09Speaker 2: so I had my Switch, Sonny had his Switch to
- 52:14Speaker 2: my friend Ben had his ace ace us Rock handheld,
- 52:17Speaker 2: and we were playing Steam games. We played a couple
- 52:19Speaker 2: of multiplayers. We were just talking about these are the
- 52:23Speaker 2: games that I'm playing. Oh, by the way, here's this
- 52:26Speaker 2: old retro handheld that I have that plays all the
- 52:27Speaker 2: Game Boy Advance games, et cetera. Like three technical dudes
- 52:31Speaker 2: just sitting in a room talking about the things that
- 52:33Speaker 2: they love, what they're doing with their home labs, what
- 52:35Speaker 2: they're working on at home, what games they're playing, what
- 52:38Speaker 2: their kids are doing. Because we all have kids that
- 52:39Speaker 2: are on the same age what did the kids want
- 52:41Speaker 2: to play? What are their experiences are with video games
- 52:44Speaker 2: and kids and movies, And because they're both film professors
- 52:46Speaker 2: at Ball State, they were talking to death about Lord
- 52:49Speaker 2: of the Rings and why this scene was cool and
- 52:50Speaker 2: why that scene was cool, and just a great time
- 52:53Speaker 2: being connected while playing games and doing other things like
- 52:56Speaker 2: that are mentally stimulating, but like just having conversation, just
- 52:59Speaker 2: be with each other and experiencing. It was a great time.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Ate too much pizza, drank too much soda, you know,
- 53:07Speaker 2: your typical stuff that you did when you were teenagers. Yeah,
- 53:10Speaker 2: and now my body is paying for it. Right. It
- 53:15Speaker 2: was just a great time. And you don't get that
- 53:18Speaker 2: type of connection when playing games anymore. Right, it's either
- 53:21Speaker 2: your online you're not face to face with somebody. You're
- 53:24Speaker 2: talking over the computer.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Which is still good and still community.
- 53:27Speaker 2: But like growing up as a kid and playing these
- 53:30Speaker 2: multiplayer games where you were the four of you or
- 53:32Speaker 2: the eight of you or whoever many people were all
- 53:34Speaker 2: in the same room, all sharing a shared experience and
- 53:37Speaker 2: making those memories and doing this, so you don't get
- 53:39Speaker 2: that anymore. So it was very reminiscent, very nostalgic, and
- 53:43Speaker 2: nostalgia's a hell of a drop, right, And the last
- 53:45Speaker 2: month I've been on this nostalgic kick. I bought an
- 53:48Speaker 2: Analog three D. I've been playing Times Splitters Rewind, I've
- 53:51Speaker 2: been playing Sue Code like. I've been playing all these
- 53:53Speaker 2: games that brought me joy back when I was younger. Yeah,
- 53:57Speaker 2: that I can't find right now in the current gaming sphere.
- 54:01Speaker 2: So I went backwards to find the joy and things
- 54:05Speaker 2: that I found fun in video games that have been
- 54:07Speaker 2: playing those again, and it's been great. It's been a
- 54:09Speaker 2: great experience.
- 54:10Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 54:10Speaker 2: That's kind of what we were working on this past
- 54:12Speaker 2: couple of days, was just reconnecting playing games that we
- 54:15Speaker 2: knew and loved, sharing those with each other, saying, oh,
- 54:17Speaker 2: I didn't know that game existed. I didn't know there
- 54:19Speaker 2: was a gay Boy Advanced version of Crash Bandicoot that
- 54:21Speaker 2: existed on Gayboy Advance.
- 54:23Speaker 1: I didn't even play.
- 54:24Speaker 2: I got to play, right, It's a different game type.
- 54:27Speaker 2: It's not your typical platform, right, but it's different and
- 54:30Speaker 2: it's it was unique, and I got to play it.
- 54:32Speaker 2: I know it existed.
- 54:33Speaker 1: That is so cool.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Like finding some hidden gems and playing some games and
- 54:37Speaker 2: just hanging out talking about life and reconnecting with old
- 54:39Speaker 2: friends is just good time.
- 54:41Speaker 1: Well, I hope you get your Christmas sweater this year.
