- 1:11Speaker 4: This is a.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Podcast called 25 Whistles. Talking football and they all wear
- 1:17Speaker 1: a whistle. Yeah, it's stupid, but what did you expect?
- 1:23Speaker 1: It's a podcast called 25 Whistles. 25 Whistles. We have
- 1:28Speaker 1: a cool show because we'll talk to author John Talti
- 1:32Speaker 1: in a little bit who wrote the book on Lane Kiffin.
- 1:34Speaker 1: And like I said, I love Lane Kiffin now. Only
- 1:38Speaker 1: because I hate him so much.
- 1:39Speaker 3: It's full.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Like, I'm into it. And they gave up, by the way.
- 1:44Speaker 1: They said, okay, we won't sign any pros. And those
- 1:46Speaker 1: two other spots, they just signed two other dudes. They
- 1:48Speaker 1: don't want to get kicked out of the league.
- 1:49Speaker 5: So what happens to the pros?
- 1:51Speaker 1: Those guys, they just go back and try to get
- 1:53Speaker 1: on a practice squad.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Not that they wouldn't have anyway. They might have, but
- 1:57Speaker 1: they decided, and I would have too, if I could
- 1:59Speaker 1: come back and play college again, not because it's just college,
- 2:02Speaker 1: because they were going to make probably a couple million
- 2:04Speaker 1: bucks versus 200,000, less than that on the practice squad.
- 2:10Speaker 6: Yeah, and actually play, possibly win a championship with LSU,
- 2:13Speaker 6: how good they are.
- 2:14Speaker 1: It's all about the millions, though.
- 2:15Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure.
- 2:16Speaker 1: That's all secondary.
- 2:17Speaker 6: True, very true.
- 2:18Speaker 1: It's making $ 90, 000 a year versus $ 2 million a year.
- 2:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 1: So, yeah, laying lost. But we'll talk to John coming
- 2:25Speaker 1: up in a little bit. He's got a book. We'll
- 2:27Speaker 1: do our Super Bowl predictions coming up as well. The
- 2:30Speaker 1: game last night was interesting, and the note that I
- 2:32Speaker 1: made was, did the Pearl Jam guitarist play the national anthem?
- 2:36Speaker 5: Mike McCready.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Don't do that.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Don't do it.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I know that's your guy.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Yeah, what about him?
- 2:41Speaker 1: And you love Pearl Jam, so you're obviously going to
- 2:43Speaker 1: be positive about it.
- 2:46Speaker 5: Oh, it gave me chills.
- 2:47Speaker 1: He was doing too many solos that weren't. I don't
- 2:50Speaker 1: like when singers do runs that aren't a part of it.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And I don't like all the solos that aren't a
- 2:54Speaker 1: part of the song.
- 2:55Speaker 6: So just do the song.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Do the song. Because there would be a part where
- 2:58Speaker 1: it would be like.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Yeah, that's where you got to do the wham.
- 3:03Speaker 1: No, it wasn't even Jimi Hendrix.
- 3:05Speaker 4: It was more.
- 3:06Speaker 1: It was too much. It was not the same melody.
- 3:09Speaker 1: No need to show off for the anthem. You did it.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It sounded great. It's too much dicking around. What?
- 3:15Speaker 4: Wow.
- 3:16Speaker 5: That's crazy, dude. I watched that and I got chills.
- 3:19Speaker 6: Because it was your guy or because it was his guy?
- 3:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:22Speaker 5: I mean, Mike McCready, Pearl Jam, all those guys. I
- 3:25Speaker 5: love Pearl Jam. And to see Mike McCready represent Seattle
- 3:30Speaker 5: and America with his guitar was so cool to me.
- 3:33Speaker 5: But I guess you hated it.
- 3:34Speaker 1: As someone who likes music, he can play guitar, obviously.
- 3:38Speaker 1: But if it were a singer doing the same thing,
- 3:39Speaker 1: I say the same thing. If someone's like, oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I hate that too. That's not your song to take
- 3:54Speaker 1: liberties with.
- 3:55Speaker 5: You want to know what's so cool is I've seen
- 3:57Speaker 5: him play that live because in some of his concert
- 4:00Speaker 5: during Yellow Leadbetter, he'll go into a solo into the
- 4:03Speaker 5: Star Spangled Banner. So I've heard that same version. So yes,
- 4:07Speaker 5: I can understand why hearing that at first being like, oh,
- 4:11Speaker 5: that's kind of, oh, that's too much.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It's not about, no, no. That's how I feel about
- 4:15Speaker 1: that song with anybody doing it. It wasn't just about
- 4:17Speaker 1: him and his performance. No liberties with the national anthem.
- 4:21Speaker 6: Stapleton, a few years ago, he just played it straight, right?
- 4:23Speaker 4: Straightforward.
- 4:24Speaker 5: That one gave me chills.
- 4:25Speaker 6: Straightforward.
- 4:26Speaker 1: The song is meant to be saying about America, not
- 4:29Speaker 1: for you to do a little dance on the side.
- 4:31Speaker 5: Amen. Okay, guys, relax.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And I made a note to talk about that because
- 4:35Speaker 1: I was so annoyed by it.
- 4:36Speaker 5: And you knew that you were going to.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Annoy me too. And he was like, in the home.
- 4:42Speaker 5: He did a little tapping.
- 4:45Speaker 1: He's putting in like all the famous riffs in musical history.
- 4:48Speaker 5: He goes into even flow.
- 4:50Speaker 1: So the game quickly from last night.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Not a great game.
- 4:57Speaker 4: No.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And Sam Dunrow gets hurt immediately. And at first, I
- 5:01Speaker 1: didn't know why it was hurt at first. They were
- 5:02Speaker 1: just saying lower body for a minute. It turns out
- 5:04Speaker 1: it was his hip.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Hip. Yeah, because he was limping.
- 5:07Speaker 1: What are they saying now?
- 5:08Speaker 6: Yeah, so now they're saying he's expected to miss just
- 5:10Speaker 6: a few weeks. So for sure already out for the
- 5:13Speaker 6: second game. We expected that. But they said that they
- 5:16Speaker 6: dodged a bullet basically and he should be out just
- 5:18Speaker 6: a few weeks.
- 5:19Speaker 5: But what's the injury?
- 5:19Speaker 6: But they're still waiting to get an MRI for more
- 5:21Speaker 6: results as of we record this right now.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Yeah, what's the injury?
- 5:24Speaker 6: It's just a hip injury.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Oh.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I had one of those. Like, just tweaked it? Like,
- 5:30Speaker 1: how bad was your... Generic hip... No, not that bad.
- 5:33Speaker 1: It was just a hip injury. But you could just
- 5:35Speaker 1: say that. It just hurt a little bit. I was
- 5:37Speaker 1: fine the next day. So I had the same thing
- 5:39Speaker 1: until they diagnosed him fully. I had the same injury.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Did you get refunds on all your bets? No, because
- 5:46Speaker 1: I had bet a parlay of... Sam Darnold and Drake
- 5:50Speaker 1: May both passing for over 230 together. And I don't
- 5:53Speaker 1: think Drake May hit 230. He was not even close
- 5:55Speaker 1: the last time I looked.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Got it. But if he would have, you would have
- 5:57Speaker 5: gotten paid half.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I would have got paid half.
- 5:59Speaker 5: Got it.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:59Speaker 6: It says the hip is intact. It's more of a
- 6:02Speaker 6: muscle thing. So that's why they're looking for M.R.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It said it's more of a muscle thing.
- 6:05Speaker 6: That's what it literally says.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Whoever that rider is.
- 6:07Speaker 6: It's more of a muscle thing.
- 6:10Speaker 5: And something.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah. I hate to see anybody get hurt.
- 6:14Speaker 5: Yeah, that was terrible.
- 6:15Speaker 1: And the first game of the season. And the Super
- 6:17Speaker 1: Bowl champions.
- 6:19Speaker 5: But let's go, what's his name, Drew Locke? Drew Locke?
- 6:22Speaker 5: That sounds right. I mean, let's go Drew Locke, dude.
- 6:25Speaker 5: I mean, you came back and won that game.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and Drake made three picks.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:30Speaker 5: That helped.
- 6:30Speaker 6: Yeah, we also lost the game. But what helps me,
- 6:34Speaker 6: not that you guys are asking, but what helps me is.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Because you're a Patriots fan.
- 6:38Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm a Patriots fan, but last year, nobody remembers,
- 6:41Speaker 6: great year we had. Week one, we lost to the Raiders.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 6: At home, in an Ugly loss.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Okay.
- 6:49Speaker 5: And he made it to the Super Bowl.
- 6:50Speaker 6: And we made it to the Super Bowl. We lost
- 6:52Speaker 6: three games all year. So two more after that all year.
- 6:54Speaker 6: So I'm like, okay, it's week one.
- 6:55Speaker 1: The difference is that team last year, year one coach,
- 7:01Speaker 1: quarterback finding himself. This, you know who you are. Same coach,
- 7:04Speaker 1: same team. I don't think that, I get it. I'd
- 7:07Speaker 1: hold on to hope too. Yeah. But Seattle's also great defensively.
- 7:12Speaker 6: Their defense is nasty. And I will say, Drake may
- 7:14Speaker 6: look like he had PTSD from the Super Bowl.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 6: Like he, as long as we don't play the Seahawks,
- 7:19Speaker 6: I'll feel okay.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I liked his hair though. It's a little longer. He's
- 7:22Speaker 1: going out a little bit.
- 7:23Speaker 5: I didn't notice that.
- 7:24Speaker 6: I just noticed the pics.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Look a little longer to me. He's on the sideline
- 7:26Speaker 1: before the game while the guy was taking liberties with
- 7:28Speaker 1: the national anthem I didn't like and they were showing everybody.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, Drake May's hair looks a little longer.
- 7:32Speaker 4: So.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it was rough. Kind of a boring game. I,
- 7:35Speaker 1: at halftime, my wife and I watched the show because
- 7:39Speaker 1: there's football Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- 7:41Speaker 6: Wait, you watched like a halftime show or?
- 7:43Speaker 1: No, we watched a show.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 7:44Speaker 1: We went over and watched.
- 7:45Speaker 5: You know who played the halftime show?
- 7:47Speaker 1: Was there a halftime show?
- 7:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Who?
- 7:49Speaker 5: Mike McCready. Mike McCready and the Soundgarden guitarist with some girl.
- 7:55Speaker 6: They went full Seattle, huh?
- 7:56Speaker 5: Yeah, they went all Seattle.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But what song were they playing?
- 7:58Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 7:59Speaker 5: I think the girl's an artist. I don't know who
- 8:00Speaker 5: she is. But they were there. Those two guys were
- 8:04Speaker 5: her guitarists.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Did you watch it?
- 8:06Speaker 5: Nah, you can kind of see it in the background.
- 8:07Speaker 5: And then I followed Pearl Jam on Instagram and they
- 8:09Speaker 5: played it.
- 8:09Speaker 6: It's Taylor Momsen.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Oh, I know Taylor. Mom's in The Pretty Reckless. Yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 1: she's in The Pretty Reckless, lead singer of that. And
- 8:14Speaker 1: then she was also in the Jim Carrey version of
- 8:18Speaker 1: The Green Guy.
- 8:19Speaker 4: The Grinch?
- 8:20Speaker 1: She's the kid. Oh, really? The blonde kid, yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 5: That's cool. Well, there you go. She played the halftime show.
- 8:25Speaker 1: That movie's not called The Green Guy?
- 8:26Speaker 5: The Grinch.
- 8:28Speaker 1: The Green Guy that stole Christmas?
- 8:29Speaker 5: But that's funny because the mask was also green, right?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Yeah, but he didn't steal Christmas.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Yeah, he did not.
- 8:34Speaker 6: He did not.
- 8:34Speaker 1: The NFL, for the first time in 20 years, will
- 8:38Speaker 1: not have a rookie quarterback starting week one.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Whoa.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Because think of who the rookie quarterbacks are.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Fernando.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Really, Mendoza would be the one, and he's not going
- 8:47Speaker 1: to start because Kirk Cousins is. Right. But the rest,
- 8:49Speaker 1: like Nussmeyer's not starting.
- 8:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:52Speaker 1: The Rams, I think he's third string because Stetson Bennett
- 8:57Speaker 1: is second. That's right.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Correct.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Right.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Who's starting in Arizona?
- 9:05Speaker 6: Kobe Brissett.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:08Speaker 5: I don't know if Carson Beck is there, but I
- 9:10Speaker 5: don't even know. Is he a backup?
- 9:11Speaker 1: Why do you keep talking about Carson Beck? You brought
- 9:12Speaker 1: him up in the freaking Hall of Fame game.
- 9:16Speaker 5: No, no, no. All preseason, dude. He played great.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Then he may end up being the starter eventually at
- 9:21Speaker 1: some point.
- 9:21Speaker 5: I'd be willing. If that's a bet somewhere, I would
- 9:24Speaker 5: place that bet that he eventually starts this season.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I think the bet would be he starts by what week.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I don't know if there's one. Does he eventually start
- 9:32Speaker 1: this season?
- 9:33Speaker 5: Too many words.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Drew Aller.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Drew Aller is not going to start. He's in Pittsburgh, right?
- 9:38Speaker 6: Cade Klubnick, yeah. But Klubnick is a backup in New
- 9:41Speaker 6: York for the Jets behind Geno, so that's a possibility.
- 9:44Speaker 6: He could start at some point.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Klubnick's funny because all the comments from Jets fans that
- 9:49Speaker 1: didn't watch college going, this is our guy. This is
- 9:52Speaker 1: our guy. Without seeing him play college. Yeah. But, yeah,
- 9:56Speaker 1: it's the only time in 20 years that a rookie
- 9:58Speaker 1: has not started. Wow. Game one.
- 10:01Speaker 6: That's probably a good thing for them.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And for us as viewers.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, I agree. Right?
- 10:07Speaker 1: I mean, if you're Arizona, I know they paid Jacoby Brissett. Yeah.
- 10:12Speaker 1: And you want to lose every game. Maybe you start
- 10:15Speaker 1: your rookie.
- 10:16Speaker 5: They say that they don't tank. Like, they swear that
- 10:20Speaker 5: that's not a thing.
- 10:21Speaker 1: You can't tank as a player because you have a contract.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Right.
- 10:26Speaker 1: A lot of these guys are trying to get paid.
- 10:27Speaker 1: You don't want to tank as a coach because you
- 10:29Speaker 1: may not have a job. But what you're tanking as
- 10:32Speaker 1: is affecting what personnel are getting to play, who is injured. Like,
- 10:38Speaker 1: when Max Crosby doesn't play the last three games because
- 10:40Speaker 1: he's got an injury, he really doesn't. Or it's so
- 10:43Speaker 1: small he could still play, but they– the GM or
- 10:47Speaker 1: the decision makers that actually do want a worse record,
- 10:50Speaker 1: they will try to affect it by having weaker personnel
- 10:54Speaker 1: be available to the coaches. And then those weak personnel,
- 10:57Speaker 1: they were playing as hard as they possibly can because they,
- 10:58Speaker 1: they want another job.
- 10:59Speaker 5: That's interesting.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:01Speaker 1: And it's hard to get a 22 people to tank. Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 1: It's hard in the NBA, but in the NBA, they
- 11:07Speaker 1: don't tank except for the players don't play bad. They
- 11:10Speaker 1: just put in the worst players.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:12Speaker 1: So it's not, Tanking isn't the players go out there going,
- 11:14Speaker 1: we're going to suck. No, they're playing as hard as
- 11:15Speaker 1: they possibly can. But what they do is they limit
- 11:18Speaker 1: the amount of minutes for the good or if they
- 11:20Speaker 1: get in at all.
- 11:21Speaker 6: Yeah, they put in the worst players. Baseball too. That's
- 11:24Speaker 6: where managers and GMs get in trouble or get in
- 11:27Speaker 6: fights with each other because the manager's like, I'm getting fired,
- 11:29Speaker 6: but you're keeping your job, but I had to play
- 11:30Speaker 6: the guys you wanted.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Me to play.
- 11:32Speaker 5: Doesn't make sense.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Everybody's team this week because everybody's playing now. Your team
- 11:37Speaker 1: is the Patriots.
- 11:38Speaker 4: You did lose.
- 11:39Speaker 5: That's done.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But what are you doing now? Because it's weird you're
- 11:41Speaker 1: not playing Sunday because it's like football has really started
- 11:44Speaker 1: and you've got your game. So yours isn't even on
- 11:46Speaker 1: until a week and a half.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh.
- 11:48Speaker 6: I know that's the worst part. We've got to wait
- 11:50Speaker 6: like 10, 11 days for the next one to try
- 11:51Speaker 6: to rebound. I'll be– but I guess I'm most– is
- 11:54Speaker 6: that what you're answering or asking?
- 11:56Speaker 1: Well, I mean, you're not really a Tennessee fan.
- 11:58Speaker 5: No, you're not a Tennessee fan.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Oh, the Vols?
- 12:00Speaker 1: Are you going to claim it?
- 12:01Speaker 6: Yeah, GBO, baby.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 12:02Speaker 5: Oh, my gosh.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Let's go. Then what game are you personally invested in
- 12:06Speaker 1: that has not happened yet?
- 12:08Speaker 6: Oh, Texas and Ohio State.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Just because you're interested in that game?
- 12:12Speaker 5: Yes.
- 12:12Speaker 6: Just because I love college football and those are two
- 12:14Speaker 6: great teams.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and fairly. His team already played.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I get that.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Eddie.
- 12:20Speaker 5: There is no other game that interests me at all
- 12:22Speaker 5: this week other than Sunday night when the Cowboys go
- 12:27Speaker 5: to New York City and play the Giants. Dude, I've
- 12:29Speaker 5: been waiting all year for this. Like, all year for
- 12:33Speaker 5: this game. I am so excited. We're going to find
- 12:36Speaker 5: out who the Cowboys are, too. This is it.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Don't put it all on week one.
- 12:39Speaker 6: Why not?
- 12:40Speaker 4: Please don't.
- 12:42Speaker 6: I'm telling you right now, do not do that.
- 12:45Speaker 1: You got 17 games, bruh.
- 12:46Speaker 5: I know, dude. It's so exciting to me that it's
- 12:50Speaker 5: finally here and the Cowboys get to play and it's
- 12:52Speaker 5: going to be on a Sunday night because they get
- 12:55Speaker 5: center stage. There's no other game that's, you know, no
- 12:58Speaker 5: fantasy's distracting me. It's going to be all Cowboys.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Also, you're playing a bit of a wild card with
- 13:05Speaker 1: the Giants.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:06Speaker 1: It's one of the teams that You kind of have
- 13:08Speaker 1: an idea of who and what every team is going
- 13:10Speaker 1: into the year, but you got a new coach. You
- 13:14Speaker 1: got year two of Jackson Dart, who is healthy right now.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Year two of Cam Scadaboo. The Giants have a good
- 13:23Speaker 1: front four defensively. So who knows what the Giants are
- 13:28Speaker 1: going to be this year? That's interesting to me, and
- 13:32Speaker 1: I hope you guys run. We own them in our league.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I hope we just run them.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Just kill the Cowboys from the very beginning.
- 13:37Speaker 1: But the Giants are one of those wildcard teams where
- 13:39Speaker 1: we really don't know what they are.
- 13:41Speaker 6: Yeah, and with Harbaugh now, you're like, they're at least
- 13:43Speaker 6: going to be stable, you think.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Mr.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Consistency. Right.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Mike?
- 13:47Speaker 6: Texas game for sure. Huge Cowboys fan, but that game
- 13:49Speaker 6: is going to determine a lot, I feel.
- 13:51Speaker 5: If they don't win that game, I don't think.
- 13:53Speaker 1: It's their year.
- 13:54Speaker 5: Texas?
- 13:55Speaker 1: I don't either because just for both teams because nightmares,
- 14:00Speaker 1: conference schedules.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Are they in Texas?
- 14:02Speaker 4: Yes.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Are they playing in Austin?
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Even looking at Ohio State's schedule, they'll probably be favored.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Texas is favored in this game because it's in Austin.
- 14:10Speaker 1: They're a point-and-a-half favorite. But Ohio State will probably be
- 14:12Speaker 1: favored or close to in every game. But they have
- 14:15Speaker 1: to play Oregon. Will you pull up to Ohio State's schedule?
- 14:18Speaker 1: For whoever loses this game, it's going to be tough. Yeah,
- 14:23Speaker 1: Texas is a point-and-a-half favorite. Number one, Ohio State. Number four, Texas.
- 14:25Speaker 1: And you're not going?
- 14:26Speaker 5: No.
- 14:28Speaker 6: Did you even look at tickets?
- 14:30Speaker 4: No. That'd be crazy, I bet.
- 14:32Speaker 6: Go later in the season when it's not as hot.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Yes.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I feel that, man.
- 14:36Speaker 5: Outside.
- 14:37Speaker 6: So they got Kent State. This is Ohio State.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Okay.
- 14:40Speaker 6: After Texas, then Illinois.
- 14:42Speaker 1: It's a tough one. And Illinois, they probably won't lose to,
- 14:44Speaker 1: but Illinois is sneaky.
- 14:45Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 14:45Speaker 6: Oh, it's at Iowa.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Again, a little more sneaky than Illinois, but go ahead.
- 14:50Speaker 6: Then Maryland at home.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Sucks.
- 14:52Speaker 6: At Indiana.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Okay.
- 14:55Speaker 1: That could be an L.
- 14:56Speaker 4: At USC.
- 14:58Speaker 1: USC supposedly is a lot better this year.
- 15:00Speaker 6: Then Oregon, so that's three in a row.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Dang.
- 15:03Speaker 6: And then they close out with Nebraska, Northwestern, and then
- 15:07Speaker 6: Michigan last.
- 15:08Speaker 1: So there's three games that they could possibly lose. I'm
- 15:12Speaker 1: not going to count. The Iowa game could be sneaky. But,
- 15:15Speaker 1: I mean, there's three and a half games there they
- 15:17Speaker 1: could possibly lose.
- 15:17Speaker 5: Who were they playing at the end there? You said
- 15:19Speaker 5: Michigan was the last, but who was before that?
- 15:21Speaker 6: Nebraska and Northwestern.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 15:23Speaker 6: Did you know Chip Kelly's at Northwestern? Saw him the
- 15:26Speaker 6: other day.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I was like, what? Not even the coordinator, but he's
- 15:28Speaker 1: just there as like a.
- 15:29Speaker 5: Consultant?
- 15:31Speaker 6: Offensive assistant or something?
- 15:32Speaker 1: Yeah, they call them.
- 15:34Speaker 6: Senior analysts.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Analysts, yes.
- 15:35Speaker 6: Is that what it is?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Analysts, yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Sounds like a good job.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Would you pull up to Texas schedule?
- 15:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Because I know Texas has got a monster run-in coming
- 15:42Speaker 1: up later with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Oh, there's an L.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Watch out. In Austin.
- 15:46Speaker 6: I think that's the game I'm going to go to.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it should be. You want a guaranteed win.
- 15:50Speaker 6: Okay, so UTSA after Ohio State. And then at Tennessee.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Okay. It just depends. That freshman five-star quarterback looks really good.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Tennessee has. But again, he's a freshman.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 6: Then Oklahoma at home.
- 16:04Speaker 1: That game. That's not at home. It's in Dallas. That
- 16:08Speaker 1: could be a disaster.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 16:10Speaker 6: Florida at home.
- 16:11Speaker 1: They're going to be better than people think.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Ole Miss at home.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Might be really good. We don't know. That Louisville game
- 16:18Speaker 1: was not good.
- 16:19Speaker 5: No.
- 16:19Speaker 1: But if you haven't heard the story of the Patriots
- 16:22Speaker 1: and the Raiders, then you've not heard a story. Because
- 16:25Speaker 1: they went to the Super Bowl, and they lost to
- 16:27Speaker 1: the Raiders week one.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Oh, that's right. I just heard that story.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Yeah, no, if you haven't heard that story yet.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Great story.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Yes.
- 16:32Speaker 6: They'll write a book about it one day.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:34Speaker 6: And then Mississippi State at home.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Okay.
- 16:37Speaker 6: At Missouri. At LSU.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You having a good one?
- 16:40Speaker 5: There you go.
- 16:41Speaker 6: And then against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
- 16:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:44Speaker 6: And then at Texas A & M to finish off
- 16:46Speaker 6: the season.
- 16:47Speaker 1: So I could see two L's there. Yeah, it's an
- 16:50Speaker 1: important game. Good one. I have the Arkansas game. They're
- 16:54Speaker 1: playing at Utah. Arkansas at number 20, Utah. Utah's a
- 16:58Speaker 1: 12.5 point favorite. I will have to watch that while
- 17:00Speaker 1: at the Brooks and Dunn concert.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Fun late game.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Right? 9 p.m.
- 17:04Speaker 5: Or something?
- 17:04Speaker 6: Concert's this weekend?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. It's on Saturday.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:07Speaker 1: If Arkansas beats Utah, I give all three of you
- 17:10Speaker 1: guys $ 100 when I get here on Monday.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Really? Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 5: So note, don't bet on that game.
- 17:14Speaker 6: I'm wearing my gear.
- 17:15Speaker 5: That's already taken care of.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Yeah, just like, you know, I want us all to
- 17:18Speaker 1: have joy if that happens.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Love that.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Deal.
- 17:20Speaker 1: There's no chance. There is a chance. There's a chance.
- 17:22Speaker 1: There's always a chance. And also there's a chance. I
- 17:23Speaker 1: was watching some Utah breakdown. There's a chance. But there's
- 17:27Speaker 1: a reason it's a 12.5 point spread. And I'm not
- 17:29Speaker 1: touching it betting.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Huh.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I might take Arkansas 12 and a half, but I
- 17:34Speaker 1: don't think I'm going to touch it. So yeah, it's bad.
- 17:37Speaker 1: We're back though.
- 17:38Speaker 5: Maybe we're back.

- 18:29Speaker 2: John Talti, National College Sports Writer for CBS Sports.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Author, he's got a big book coming out called Lane
- 19:01Speaker 1: Being Lane, which I'm going to show you guys on camera.
- 19:03Speaker 1: It's the story of Lane Kiffin, college football's agent of chaos. Hey, John,
- 19:08Speaker 1: I want to start with this first. So we plan
- 19:10Speaker 1: to have you in the studio and we couldn't say
- 19:12Speaker 1: this to you when we were like, don't come, but
- 19:13Speaker 1: somebody was murdered in our building yesterday. jeez so that's
- 19:17Speaker 1: why so i i feel bad and luckily we caught
- 19:20Speaker 1: you before you left and you had to be like
- 19:22Speaker 1: man why did they move this to zoom and now
- 19:25Speaker 1: it's finally made the news but i don't know if
- 19:26Speaker 1: we'd be allowed up here but somebody was murdered like
- 19:29Speaker 1: there was a gun fight it was it's the craziest
- 19:32Speaker 1: thing we can't believe it so a little bit of
- 19:34Speaker 1: me felt guilty for canceling you coming up here but
- 19:37Speaker 1: then i thought when i finally was able to talk
- 19:38Speaker 1: to you and i said there was a murder you
- 19:39Speaker 1: would understand.
- 19:40Speaker 4: One hundred percent. And I appreciated like Kevin giving me
- 19:46Speaker 4: the heads up because I was just about to get
- 19:48Speaker 4: in the car. I live in Birmingham. I was about
- 19:49Speaker 4: to drive to Nashville. I was like, okay, like I
- 19:51Speaker 4: was excited to meet you guys in person, but understood,
- 19:53Speaker 4: of course. And now obviously I understand that.
- 19:56Speaker 6: Yes.
- 19:57Speaker 4: So crazy situation.
- 19:59Speaker 1: We want you to come up at some point. I
- 20:01Speaker 1: just didn't even know if we'd get in the building
- 20:03Speaker 1: and literally 80 feet from us, some dude was murdered.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Our producer found his body, like walked up on his body.
- 20:08Speaker 1: That's how crazy it was.
- 20:09Speaker 4: That's insane.
- 20:10Speaker 1: So don't hate us. That's my point. Don't hate us.
- 20:12Speaker 1: It has nothing to do with you. It had to
- 20:13Speaker 1: do with murder.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Okay.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Now to what we're talking about. And so I'm in
- 20:19Speaker 1: the middle of a different book right now called The Wager.
- 20:21Speaker 1: I don't know if you ever read that, but it's
- 20:23Speaker 1: about a ship. But when I finished that, and I
- 20:25Speaker 1: don't say this because mostly... I'm not full of crap.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I do say a lot of things, but I'm not
- 20:30Speaker 1: full of crap. I think I'm going to read this
- 20:32Speaker 1: because I love Lane Kiffin. I hate him, but because
- 20:36Speaker 1: he makes me hate him so much, like I can
- 20:38Speaker 1: appreciate the love for him. So why did you decide
- 20:40Speaker 1: to write this book on Lane Kiffin?
- 20:42Speaker 4: I think you kind of hit on it right there.
- 20:44Speaker 4: It's he's got that love him or hate him.
- 20:47Speaker 1: You watch him.
- 20:48Speaker 4: Right. And he is the most polarizing person, I think,
- 20:51Speaker 4: in college sports, which is exciting to kind of dive
- 20:55Speaker 4: into him in a deeper way of like, what makes
- 20:58Speaker 4: this guy tick? Why does he do the things that
- 21:00Speaker 4: he does? And I think especially like, you know, Bobby,
- 21:02Speaker 4: I know obviously you're a guy who understands college football
- 21:05Speaker 4: and the SEC, like, This guy has just had a
- 21:07Speaker 4: one of one career from the high highs to the
- 21:10Speaker 4: low lows. Obviously, the first person to be a head
- 21:14Speaker 4: coach at three SEC schools. But just even the way
- 21:17Speaker 4: that he can get to close to the mountaintop and
- 21:20Speaker 4: then the way that he seems to leave every place
- 21:22Speaker 4: he's ever worked at. Like I always thought there's got
- 21:24Speaker 4: to be something behind the scenes happening there.
- 21:26Speaker 1: And so.
- 21:27Speaker 4: That's a big reason why I wanted to try to
- 21:29Speaker 4: understand like, why is Lane Kiffin the way he is?
- 21:32Speaker 4: And why does he do these things that seem to
- 21:34Speaker 4: both delight and disgust us?
- 21:37Speaker 1: Would you say, and again, I'm going to be honest,
- 21:39Speaker 1: our listeners, I just got the book. I haven't read
- 21:42Speaker 1: it yet. So I'm going to ask questions. I'm not
- 21:43Speaker 1: going to pretend like I read it cause I just
- 21:44Speaker 1: got it, but I'm going to ask questions that may
- 21:46Speaker 1: be stupid since I haven't read the book. So please
- 21:49Speaker 1: bear with me. Um, would you say the highlight is
- 21:52Speaker 1: getting that Raiders job when he was like 13? And
- 21:55Speaker 1: then obviously he was fired from being the head coach
- 21:57Speaker 1: of the Raiders, but would that be the high for him?
- 21:59Speaker 1: If you were to go, let's look at his career.
- 22:01Speaker 4: I think it could be, but I think it's also
- 22:04Speaker 4: like such a Lane Kiffin type situation where he had
- 22:07Speaker 4: people in his life telling him don't take that job,
- 22:10Speaker 4: but he was driven, especially at that age. And I
- 22:13Speaker 4: think he still is now it's about a 20 year difference,
- 22:15Speaker 4: but was driven so much by ambition. And the idea
- 22:19Speaker 4: of going from being the offensive coordinator at USC to
- 22:23Speaker 4: being the head coach of the Raiders was crazy. And
- 22:26Speaker 4: it was kind of almost fun looking back at the
- 22:29Speaker 4: headlines at that time where even back then people thought,
- 22:32Speaker 4: this is crazy. And he had gone for a job actually...
- 22:35Speaker 4: the University of Minnesota job and didn't get it and
- 22:38Speaker 4: yet somehow got the Raiders job. And there's a great
- 22:41Speaker 4: story in the book where the Raiders actually initially wanted
- 22:45Speaker 4: to hire Steve Sarkeesian. And they sent one of their
- 22:49Speaker 4: guys to try to find Sarkeesian. He kind of ghosted
- 22:52Speaker 4: Al Davis. This guy's trying to find Sark. He gets
- 22:55Speaker 4: Lane Kiffin on the phone. He's like, where's Sark? What's
- 22:57Speaker 4: going on? Lane's kind of playing coy with him because
- 23:00Speaker 4: Lane was kind of lined up to be Sark's offensive
- 23:03Speaker 4: coordinator of the Raiders. And eventually this guy I interviewed
- 23:06Speaker 4: for the book said, well, Lane, like, would you be
- 23:08Speaker 4: interested in the job? And Lane was like, sure. Yeah,
- 23:11Speaker 4: I think I would be. And so they went from
- 23:13Speaker 4: wanting Sark to somehow ending up with Lane Kiffin. And
- 23:16Speaker 4: people around the Raiders told me really from day one,
- 23:18Speaker 4: they realized this might not end well. And it ends
- 23:22Speaker 4: in one of the the all time press conferences where
- 23:25Speaker 4: Al Davis has a projector as he explains all the
- 23:28Speaker 4: reasons why he hates Lane Kiffin.
- 23:32Speaker 1: That's crazy. Do you think that Lane, you can't answer
- 23:38Speaker 1: this question right or wrong, but do you think Lane
- 23:39Speaker 1: would be where he is now if his dad wasn't
- 23:42Speaker 1: Monty Kiff and people giving him a bit of credit
- 23:44Speaker 1: for what, not what his dad had done just in,
- 23:48Speaker 1: was Monty a defensive coordinator? Okay, for what Monty had
- 23:52Speaker 1: done in his career, but also that Monty was known
- 23:54Speaker 1: as a stable guy and they assumed Lane would probably
- 23:56Speaker 1: be a product of that?
- 23:57Speaker 4: I think there's a lot to that. I think you
- 24:00Speaker 4: can look at it in three ways, really. One, obviously,
- 24:02Speaker 4: just growing up in that environment, right? Like, Monty is
- 24:05Speaker 4: an all-time ball coach. Like, he was obsessed with ball,
- 24:08Speaker 4: watching tape all the time. And Lane used to love
- 24:11Speaker 4: trying to stay up and watch Monday Night Football with
- 24:13Speaker 4: his dad and be able to pick his brain, even
- 24:15Speaker 4: as a little kid. So just growing up, I think,
- 24:17Speaker 4: in that environment prepares you to potentially be a football coach.
- 24:22Speaker 4: certainly Monty opened doors all throughout Wayne's early career. And,
- 24:26Speaker 4: you know, we get into it in the book, but
- 24:28Speaker 4: just like how he ends up at Fresno state for college,
- 24:31Speaker 4: how he gets his first graduate assistant job afterwards, how
- 24:34Speaker 4: he gets his first NFL job. Those are all with
- 24:37Speaker 4: people that Monty Kiffin was good friends with. And so
- 24:40Speaker 4: Monty got him, you know, opportunity after opportunity to start.
- 24:44Speaker 4: And then to your final point, absolutely. And it played
- 24:46Speaker 4: a role in him getting the Tennessee job. And also
- 24:50Speaker 4: the USC job where they thought, all right, if we
- 24:52Speaker 4: have Monty Kiffin with Lane, that'll kind of like tamp
- 24:56Speaker 4: down some of Lane's craziness. Monty's a great guy. He's
- 24:59Speaker 4: very personable. He's great on defense. If we pair the
- 25:03Speaker 4: brain of Monty Kiffin and the stableness of Monty Kiffin.
- 25:06Speaker 4: with lane's kind of wild and crazy offense we're going
- 25:09Speaker 4: to win big and it never fully came to fruition
- 25:12Speaker 4: but certainly there were some some moments there some tennessee
- 25:15Speaker 4: usc where it looked pretty good at you know at
- 25:17Speaker 4: a time and there's a big reason why you know
- 25:20Speaker 4: lane kiffin is who he is is because of monty kiffin.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Did you happen to see lane kiffin's halftime speech that
- 25:25Speaker 1: was leaked with the guy recording the ground I did.
- 25:27Speaker 4: I don't know if anyone has verified that it is
- 25:30Speaker 4: actually real, but certainly seems like we're all taking it
- 25:33Speaker 4: as if it's real. But yeah, I did see it.
- 25:35Speaker 4: It was entertaining.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I am a pretty good sniffer outer of AI. So
- 25:40Speaker 1: I did, it didn't even resonate to me that it
- 25:43Speaker 1: might be fake because it was shot so granny, but again,
- 25:45Speaker 1: it could have been so good. But if that was lane,
- 25:47Speaker 1: which I would say it was, that was awesome. Like
- 25:50Speaker 1: I wanted to go run through a wall for that
- 25:52Speaker 1: dude giving that speed. It was, it was amazing, right?
- 25:55Speaker 4: It was. And it's a side of Lane that we
- 25:56Speaker 4: frankly do not see very often. And it's something that
- 26:00Speaker 4: talking to former players and guys who have worked with him,
- 26:03Speaker 4: that's not typically Lane's style. He's a bit more to
- 26:07Speaker 4: the point. Obviously, he can get guys fired up. And
- 26:10Speaker 4: some of the words he used did not surprise me
- 26:12Speaker 4: at all. It is kind of direct. But he's not
- 26:15Speaker 4: always the big pump-em-up guy. It's why he's had... ed
- 26:19Speaker 4: ogeron with him you know throughout his career at multiple
- 26:22Speaker 4: different stops like ed o's the guy who's like ripping
- 26:24Speaker 4: off his shirt and wants you to like run through
- 26:26Speaker 4: a wall like that's typically been others role rather than
- 26:29Speaker 4: lane but clearly like lane you know is growing and
- 26:32Speaker 4: evolving and i think that specifically that video if assuming
- 26:36Speaker 4: it's real showed a side of lane that we frankly
- 26:39Speaker 4: have not seen very often and at least from what
- 26:42Speaker 4: i saw on social media and things like that like
- 26:44Speaker 4: Almost universal approval rating. That's the kind of Lane that
- 26:47Speaker 4: I think people really enjoy. Yeah.
- 26:49Speaker 1: And I said on the show, because again, I'm not
- 26:52Speaker 1: a Lane guy, but I'm starting to be more of
- 26:56Speaker 1: a Lane guy because I feel like Lane is now
- 26:58Speaker 1: embracing what everybody feels he is, right or wrong, which
- 27:01Speaker 1: is the bad guy. And the fact that If so,
- 27:03Speaker 1: I love Hollywood Hogan. Now Hulk Hogan, America's hero. Hollywood Hogan,
- 27:07Speaker 1: best bad guy ever. And now if Lane is just
- 27:10Speaker 1: embracing that role of the bad guy, like that makes
- 27:12Speaker 1: me enjoy what he's doing. Do you feel like it
- 27:15Speaker 1: got to a point with him now that he's just
- 27:17Speaker 1: had to go, okay, if everybody feels this way, I'm
- 27:20Speaker 1: just going to say that that's just me.
- 27:22Speaker 4: I think he's resisted it in the past. Right. And
- 27:25Speaker 4: I think maybe he realized between how he left Ole Miss, the,
- 27:29Speaker 4: the vanity fair piece in which he talked about, you know,
- 27:31Speaker 4: some of the racial issues that he felt like impacted
- 27:35Speaker 4: his recruiting, you know, at Ole Miss, like those things
- 27:38Speaker 4: kind of piling up on each other seem to lead
- 27:40Speaker 4: to maybe more people disliking Lane Kiffin than in the past.
- 27:43Speaker 4: And so it seems like he's embracing this idea of
- 27:46Speaker 4: being a villain, but, but maybe kind of like Hulk Hogan, uh,
- 27:50Speaker 4: It's interesting is that Lane always views that there's a
- 27:52Speaker 4: path back to being a hero. And even I think
- 27:55Speaker 4: both publicly and certainly privately, some of the people he's
- 27:58Speaker 4: talked to that I've talked to, he always views that
- 28:00Speaker 4: if I can just win enough, I can be the
- 28:02Speaker 4: hero again. So deep down, I don't think he wants
- 28:05Speaker 4: to be the villain, but I think he's smart enough
- 28:07Speaker 4: in this moment to realize being the villain can be fun.
- 28:11Speaker 4: And doing the us against everyone has been a successful
- 28:16Speaker 4: sports trope for a long time for a reason. And
- 28:18Speaker 4: I think if he can kind of play the everyone
- 28:21Speaker 4: hates LSU, everyone hates me, let's show them who we
- 28:24Speaker 4: really are, which we got snippets of in that halftime speech,
- 28:27Speaker 4: I think it could be very successful. And it does
- 28:30Speaker 4: seem to be turning some people to his side. It
- 28:33Speaker 4: seems to be working pretty well for him so far.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I hate LSU and I never liked Lane Kiffin.
- 28:37Speaker 1: And I only hate them because I'm from Arkansas again
- 28:39Speaker 1: and we hate LSU. And we hate Texas more though,
- 28:41Speaker 1: but that's not what we're talking about. But again, when
- 28:45Speaker 1: I love somebody that just is consistent with a strong message,
- 28:49Speaker 1: like it doesn't matter. And I feel like he now,
- 28:52Speaker 1: that's so interesting that he feels like there's always a
- 28:55Speaker 1: path to, we'll call it redemption, like regardless of where
- 28:59Speaker 1: he is. Have you spent any time with him? And
- 29:01Speaker 1: did you spend time with him in this book at all?
- 29:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I was around him some, and I covered Alabama
- 29:07Speaker 4: for a long time. And so kind of was in Tuscaloosa,
- 29:11Speaker 4: Birmingham for the early years of Lane at Alabama, which
- 29:15Speaker 4: were a wild time in a lot of ways. But
- 29:19Speaker 4: I think what's interesting, Bobby, is that I think really
- 29:21Speaker 4: if you go back to the Raiders days, He's been
- 29:25Speaker 4: trying to sell this idea of like redemption and evolution
- 29:30Speaker 4: pretty much at every step, right? I think he realizes like,
- 29:33Speaker 4: maybe I made a mistake. It seems like every single
- 29:36Speaker 4: time he leaves a place, it ends horribly. And then
- 29:38Speaker 4: he's got to clean it up somehow. And he tries
- 29:40Speaker 4: to sell, I'm maturing, I'm evolving. And then it happens again.
- 29:44Speaker 4: And then he does it again. And so it was
- 29:45Speaker 4: kind of interesting to go back through history just and
- 29:47Speaker 4: even when I've interviewed him in the past, like him
- 29:50Speaker 4: trying to sell this idea of like, I'm growing up,
- 29:53Speaker 4: I'm evolving. even going back to 2010, 2015, 2016, etc.
- 29:57Speaker 4: And so I think he's still doing that. I think
- 29:59Speaker 4: he's still trying to redeem himself in some ways. I
- 30:02Speaker 4: think he was able to do a lot of that
- 30:04Speaker 4: kind of PR cleaning up in Oxford. I think it
- 30:08Speaker 4: was in a pretty good place. And then the way
- 30:10Speaker 4: he left, I think, damaged a lot of that, burned
- 30:12Speaker 4: a lot of bridges, certainly back in Oxford. And so
- 30:15Speaker 4: he's trying to kind of clean it up again here.
- 30:18Speaker 4: But I think one thing for is clear of Lane
- 30:20Speaker 4: Kiffin is like, again, there's going to be some great
- 30:22Speaker 4: moments along the way, but you almost have to sign
- 30:25Speaker 4: up knowing that at some point it's going to end horribly.
- 30:27Speaker 4: And I think if you're an OSU fan, you're hoping
- 30:30Speaker 4: maybe we at least get a national championship out of
- 30:32Speaker 4: it before this thing gets weird.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Just going through the memory here, is this only positive
- 30:38Speaker 1: departure FAU? It is.
- 30:42Speaker 4: And what's interesting, and we get into a little bit
- 30:44Speaker 4: in the book, and it's nothing like bad, but like
- 30:47Speaker 4: it got a little weird at the end of FAU too.
- 30:49Speaker 4: And just the thing is just like they just were
- 30:51Speaker 4: not covered the way, Bobby, we cover the SEC, the
- 30:54Speaker 4: way we cover Tennessee, the way we cover the USC
- 30:57Speaker 4: famous tarmac firing, excuse me. FAU, they were just happy
- 31:02Speaker 4: to have him. They were just desperate for attention. They
- 31:04Speaker 4: were desperate for a guy who could give them some juice.
- 31:06Speaker 4: They loved the Lane experience in a lot of ways.
- 31:09Speaker 4: But I can tell you at the end there, when
- 31:11Speaker 4: he was interviewing for multiple jobs, including actually Arkansas, if
- 31:15Speaker 4: you remember, there was a time where Arkansas was in
- 31:17Speaker 4: the mix. with Lane Kiffin before he ultimately went to
- 31:21Speaker 4: Ole Miss and people there at the time were telling
- 31:23Speaker 4: me like he's off in the side field taking calls
- 31:26Speaker 4: during practice talking to his agent trying to talk to
- 31:28Speaker 4: coaches about coming with him to either Arkansas or Ole
- 31:30Speaker 4: Miss like the week of the Conference USA Championship game
- 31:34Speaker 4: so like That didn't get a lot of attention. They
- 31:35Speaker 4: still won the game. It didn't matter. But it had
- 31:38Speaker 4: the potential to get a little weird, certainly if it
- 31:40Speaker 4: was a bigger school. And we saw that play out,
- 31:43Speaker 4: of course, with Ole Miss last cycle where it got
- 31:46Speaker 4: very weird at the end and a lot of hurt
- 31:48Speaker 4: feelings along the way.
- 31:50Speaker 1: So I'm a pretty big booster at Arkansas, and we
- 31:55Speaker 1: had Lane. And one of my really good friends, and
- 32:02Speaker 1: on the staff at Arkansas– And that's when Lane took
- 32:05Speaker 1: the Ole Miss job after he had already told us
- 32:09Speaker 1: at Arkansas he was taking that job. And then they fired.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Did you know that story and not say it?
- 32:15Speaker 4: So I didn't know the. factor and here's the interesting
- 32:19Speaker 4: story you probably know this but maybe your listeners don't
- 32:23Speaker 4: uh he had a connection to the Ole Miss golf
- 32:25Speaker 4: coach and so when Arkansas was happening and he was
- 32:29Speaker 4: telling Arkansas I'm coming now there are people around him
- 32:31Speaker 4: who were I guess maybe skeptical maybe if that was
- 32:34Speaker 4: the only opportunity he would take it but he wanted
- 32:36Speaker 4: to make a run at Ole Miss before he I
- 32:38Speaker 4: guess was all in on Arkansas so he had a
- 32:41Speaker 4: connection to the Ole Miss golf coach and and reached
- 32:43Speaker 4: out to Chris Malloy, tried to say, hey, can you
- 32:45Speaker 4: do anything? Can you get me in the mix for
- 32:47Speaker 4: this job? He went to, at the time, a brand-new
- 32:50Speaker 4: athletic director, Keith Carter, had just gotten bumped up from
- 32:53Speaker 4: the interim, and was like, hey, we need to think
- 32:55Speaker 4: about Lane Kiffin. And there was skepticism about doing it.
- 33:00Speaker 4: One thing, which you might know this, Bobby, but the
- 33:03Speaker 4: Manning family, not the biggest fans of Lane Kiffin, from
- 33:06Speaker 4: my understanding. Archie is still a huge deal at Ole Miss.
- 33:10Speaker 4: He was, you know, I guess they gauged his opinion.
- 33:13Speaker 4: It was not in favor of hiring Lane Kiffin. So
- 33:16Speaker 4: it was a massive risk for Ole Miss to do it.
- 33:18Speaker 4: And ultimately, and it's kind of funny looking back on it.
- 33:21Speaker 4: they had this kind of conversation and one of their
- 33:23Speaker 4: top boosters said, we need a rock star right now
- 33:26Speaker 4: at Ole Miss. Like we need someone who's going to
- 33:28Speaker 4: juice up the base. We need a rock star. And
- 33:31Speaker 4: they got one in Lane Kiffin and all the best
- 33:32Speaker 4: and maybe worst ways of what a rock star can do.
- 33:34Speaker 4: But they wanted to ultimately go down that path to
- 33:37Speaker 4: juice the base. But yeah, you're right. I mean, he
- 33:39Speaker 4: was telling people at Arkansas, I'm coming. And if he
- 33:43Speaker 4: didn't maybe get that Ole Miss golf coach to intervene
- 33:45Speaker 4: on his behalf, he could have been Arkansas's head coach.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I was told it was done. And then, cause they
- 33:50Speaker 1: needed money. And so I gave him money and I
- 33:52Speaker 1: never got my money back and we didn't even get him.
- 33:53Speaker 1: How stupid is that? I never got my money. I
- 33:56Speaker 1: only gave it for Lane. I never got it back, John.
- 33:59Speaker 4: Yeah. You got, I think you got gypped there. I got, yes.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Yes.
- 34:03Speaker 4: It could have been like a discounted, like, Hey, I'm sorry.
- 34:06Speaker 4: We didn't get you Lane Kiffin. We're going to give
- 34:08Speaker 4: you your money back. We got Sam Pittman instead. We'll
- 34:11Speaker 4: roll a phone call for you.
- 34:12Speaker 1: The parallels between Tennessee, it felt very, you know, leaving Cleveland,
- 34:19Speaker 1: going to, the Ravens, you know, late night or just
- 34:23Speaker 1: any of this where people just kind of leave and
- 34:25Speaker 1: don't say anything and then everybody hates you after. It
- 34:27Speaker 1: felt very that. And all my Tennessee friends have a
- 34:31Speaker 1: dislike for Lane. That being said, the Ole Miss thing,
- 34:34Speaker 1: the fans also hate Lane as well. Like he's done
- 34:37Speaker 1: that twice.
- 34:39Speaker 4: He has. And, uh, I was in Oxford the day
- 34:42Speaker 4: he left. And so I was there at the airport
- 34:46Speaker 4: where I don't know if I've ever seen more middle
- 34:48Speaker 4: fingers aimed at anybody. They're like kids walking to the
- 34:53Speaker 4: plane and people are flipping them off. I mean, it
- 34:54Speaker 4: was like it was the full SEC experience in every way.
- 34:58Speaker 4: And and I think that's what's like, again, you wonder
- 35:01Speaker 4: why write a book about Lane Kiffin. It is moments
- 35:03Speaker 4: like that because and I think even Lane would probably
- 35:06Speaker 4: say this, like when you evoke such a visceral reaction
- 35:09Speaker 4: to your departure, it means they cared. Right. And I
- 35:13Speaker 4: think that is like Ole Miss was so all in
- 35:15Speaker 4: on Lane Kiffin. And you could argue like their branding
- 35:19Speaker 4: really became much more about Lane Kiffin than anything else.
- 35:22Speaker 4: Like it became the Lane Kiffin University with Ole Miss
- 35:25Speaker 4: attached to it. And so when he ultimately left after
- 35:28Speaker 4: selling this idea of like, I needed Oxford more than
- 35:31Speaker 4: it needed me. And I grew up in Oxford. People
- 35:34Speaker 4: really bought that and felt very betrayed when he ultimately left.
- 35:38Speaker 4: And it is kind of a repeat of Tennessee and
- 35:41Speaker 4: the way that he left there and the strong reaction
- 35:45Speaker 4: in Knoxville with people burning, I think, mattresses and and
- 35:49Speaker 4: painting the rock everywhere. nasty things about lane kiffin and
- 35:53Speaker 4: that's two sec fan bases right there that are always
- 35:55Speaker 4: going to dislike the guy and that doesn't even count
- 35:57Speaker 4: just your general rivals who don't like usually the head
- 36:00Speaker 4: coach of their rival school so he's uh by far
- 36:03Speaker 4: the most interesting uh guy in the sec at this
- 36:06Speaker 4: point and certainly you know evokes the strongest reactions of
- 36:09Speaker 4: anyone in college football in my.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Opinion i have three questions left how do you feel
- 36:14Speaker 1: pete golding feels about lane kiffin.
- 36:17Speaker 4: He's played very nice publicly, and I think he's said
- 36:22Speaker 4: all the right things. Now, sometimes you hear different things
- 36:26Speaker 4: behind the scenes, but I think Pete's just a ball coach, man,
- 36:29Speaker 4: and I think he's just like, I'm staying out of
- 36:30Speaker 4: the drama. I'm going to do my thing. I'm going
- 36:32Speaker 4: to just try to do everything I can to be successful.
- 36:36Speaker 4: I think he appreciates that Lane was able to bring
- 36:39Speaker 4: him to Ole Miss. He's got Mississippi roots, obviously, Delta
- 36:45Speaker 4: State guy. I think it was very important to him
- 36:47Speaker 4: and his family to be back in Mississippi, be in Oxford.
- 36:51Speaker 4: So I think he's appreciative of that. But there's a
- 36:54Speaker 4: moment where last season, Lane Kiffin, I believe it was
- 36:58Speaker 4: after the Oklahoma game where they won, where he basically
- 37:01Speaker 4: turned to Pete and was like, we could go to
- 37:03Speaker 4: Florida right now if we want to. And Pete essentially
- 37:05Speaker 4: said like, I didn't come here for you. I came
- 37:08Speaker 4: here for me and I'm staying here for me. I'm
- 37:10Speaker 4: not just following you. So there was certainly some some
- 37:13Speaker 4: divide and some stuff that happened behind the scenes. And,
- 37:16Speaker 4: you know, we detail it in the book, but it
- 37:18Speaker 4: was an all out battle between LSU and Ole Miss
- 37:21Speaker 4: during the transfer portal. Those guys were duking it out
- 37:24Speaker 4: for players. Golden was having to do everything he could
- 37:26Speaker 4: to try to hold on to guys like Trinidad Chambliss
- 37:29Speaker 4: and Kiwan Lacey. while also preparing for playoff games. So
- 37:33Speaker 4: there was some bad blood in that moment. Again, I
- 37:35Speaker 4: think they're trying to let, you know, sleeping dogs lie.
- 37:38Speaker 4: But there certainly was some friction after Lane left and
- 37:42Speaker 4: his staff was trying to do all it could to
- 37:44Speaker 4: raid Ole Miss's best players.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Why did Saban hire Lane? And what was that relationship
- 37:52Speaker 1: really like?
- 37:53Speaker 4: So the story that has always been told was that
- 37:55Speaker 4: he realized, and they use a car analogy that like,
- 37:59Speaker 4: Our offense is a Mercedes, but it's about to drive
- 38:01Speaker 4: off a cliff. That's always been a story that I've told.
- 38:04Speaker 4: So I think Nick Saban realized, hey, the game's changing.
- 38:08Speaker 4: I don't like it. I mean, you can remember he
- 38:10Speaker 4: used to complain about the hurry up, no huddle offense.
- 38:13Speaker 4: He hated that stuff. And I think he was like, well...
- 38:17Speaker 4: I'm trying to stop it. I'm trying to get rule changes.
- 38:20Speaker 4: It's not happening. I might as well get my own
- 38:22Speaker 4: guy who can do this. And so there was a
- 38:24Speaker 4: common denominator there. They have the same agent who's Jimmy Sexton,
- 38:27Speaker 4: who many believe most powerful person in college sports. And
- 38:31Speaker 4: so he got those guys together. Lane initially just came
- 38:34Speaker 4: in to kind of spend a week or so as
- 38:36Speaker 4: Alabama did its bowl prep and ultimately Saban decided, I
- 38:40Speaker 4: need to make a change. Let's hire Lane Kiffin. And
- 38:43Speaker 4: How did the relationship work out? I mean, it was
- 38:44Speaker 4: friction pretty much from day one. And those guys are
- 38:47Speaker 4: just very different. And it's kind of funny to see
- 38:49Speaker 4: them interact with each other now. It's almost like I
- 38:52Speaker 4: compare Saban to like that grandfather who can kind of
- 38:55Speaker 4: laugh about their kid being like a wild man growing up.
- 38:58Speaker 4: It's funnier now, but in the moment it was terrible. And,
- 39:01Speaker 4: you know, you have Nick Saban who expects everyone to
- 39:04Speaker 4: do it a certain way. Like this is the process.
- 39:07Speaker 4: This is how we do things now. Lane Kiffin is
- 39:10Speaker 4: like that little kid who just keeps asking why. Why
- 39:12Speaker 4: are we doing this? Why not do that? What about this?
- 39:15Speaker 4: As you can imagine, as a parent, you're like, just
- 39:17Speaker 4: stop asking me questions. Just do the thing. I think
- 39:19Speaker 4: that's how Saban reacted to him at times. It got
- 39:23Speaker 4: bad at times. There was a Vanity Fair excerpt about
- 39:27Speaker 4: my book that came out recently that that details some
- 39:30Speaker 4: of this stuff, but you know, Wayne Kiffin had some,
- 39:32Speaker 4: some off the field things happening during that time in
- 39:35Speaker 4: Tuscaloosa that Nick Saban heard about, didn't love that created
- 39:39Speaker 4: additional friction between those two guys. So it was a,
- 39:42Speaker 4: I think a mutual beneficial partnership. They won a national
- 39:46Speaker 4: championship together. He evolved Alabama's offense that when you paired
- 39:50Speaker 4: it with that defense felt nearly unstoppable and, But did
- 39:54Speaker 4: those guys ever love working with each other? No. But
- 39:57Speaker 4: they both appreciated that they could get something out of
- 39:59Speaker 4: each other. And certainly now that it's been a decade
- 40:02Speaker 4: since they had to work together, it's easier to remember
- 40:05Speaker 4: the good moments and not all the moments when Nick
- 40:08Speaker 4: Saban was in Lane Kiffin's face screaming at him.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Joey Freshwater. Do you talk about him?
- 40:14Speaker 4: We do. So, I mean, you know, the stories, obviously,
- 40:18Speaker 4: it's been part of, I think, the Internet, I don't know,
- 40:22Speaker 4: discussion point for a long time. And I talked to people,
- 40:26Speaker 4: you know, who were there at that time. And I
- 40:28Speaker 4: think as one person put it to me, like the
- 40:30Speaker 4: Joey Feshwater stuff got out there for a reason. But
- 40:33Speaker 4: he was asking those things. And uh i don't know
- 40:37Speaker 4: this is 100 true it's actually not even in the
- 40:38Speaker 4: book but someone told me this after i wrote the
- 40:41Speaker 4: book that the joey freshwater name comes from he had
- 40:45Speaker 4: a friend in college and that was the name on
- 40:47Speaker 4: his college roommate's fake id was joey freshwater so all
- 40:51Speaker 4: the way back when he was in college somebody had
- 40:53Speaker 4: a joey freshwater fake id and evidently lane thought it
- 40:56Speaker 4: was a hilarious name was like i'm going to use
- 40:58Speaker 4: that uh so That's the story that I heard. I
- 41:00Speaker 4: don't know if that's 100% true, but certainly the Joey
- 41:03Speaker 4: Freshwater stuff was out and about. And Bobby, I'll just
- 41:06Speaker 4: tell you, like, I don't judge people like do your thing.
- 41:09Speaker 4: But I remember covering Alabama at that time. And like,
- 41:11Speaker 4: I'd get a text at like one 30 in the
- 41:13Speaker 4: morning on like a Friday night before a football game
- 41:15Speaker 4: being like, Hey, Wayne Kiffin's at this bar right now.
- 41:18Speaker 4: And you're like, ah, it feels a little weird. I
- 41:20Speaker 4: don't really remember hearing that about a lot of other coaches.
- 41:22Speaker 4: So he was just out there and visible in a
- 41:25Speaker 4: way that Nick Saban assistants just really were not. And yeah,
- 41:30Speaker 4: lane kiffin's a funny guy i mean joey freshwater is
- 41:32Speaker 4: a funny name there's there's no it's a hilarious line
- 41:36Speaker 4: uh and so that's like that's part of like the
- 41:39Speaker 4: lane kiffin thing too is like there's some dark stuff
- 41:41Speaker 4: there but there's also some funny stuff where he's like
- 41:44Speaker 4: he's got this great sense of humor and quick wit
- 41:46Speaker 4: where he can just have these things that he does
- 41:49Speaker 4: um and so freshwater is one of those like kind
- 41:51Speaker 4: of internet war things that is actually true in a.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Lot of ways I can't wait to read it. I'm
- 41:56Speaker 1: going to have to wait, actually, until it comes out, though,
- 41:58Speaker 1: because I have such bad vision. If it's like halfway dark,
- 42:01Speaker 1: I can't read paper. I had one of those lights
- 42:03Speaker 1: you put on your head for my bed when my
- 42:05Speaker 1: wife was asleep, and it would wake her up because
- 42:07Speaker 1: I can't see, and I have to read on my
- 42:09Speaker 1: iPad now. So the book does come out next week.
- 42:12Speaker 1: You can pre-order it now, though, I'm assuming, John? Yep.
- 42:16Speaker 4: Anywhere you buy books, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books A Million.
- 42:19Speaker 4: And if I can, I'll do two quick shout outs.
- 42:21Speaker 4: There's two great local bookstores. There's Little Professor in Birmingham
- 42:25Speaker 4: and Square Books in Oxford. Either one of those, you
- 42:28Speaker 4: can order a signed book today. So you can order
- 42:31Speaker 4: it today. I'll sign it and it'll get to you
- 42:33Speaker 4: the week that it comes out. So love to support
- 42:35Speaker 4: local bookstores as well. But yeah, all your big chains,
- 42:38Speaker 4: they'll all have it. You can order it right now.
- 42:39Speaker 4: It'll be at your house on the 15th.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Are you saying if you go to those bookstores? Because I...
- 42:44Speaker 1: I'm familiar with, I've written a couple of books and
- 42:45Speaker 1: I know the process of like, you need different sales
- 42:48Speaker 1: from different places. Like it's a whole strategy, but there's
- 42:51Speaker 1: two really cool bookstores. Will they mail them if you
- 42:54Speaker 1: sign them? Can you go and order it from them
- 42:56Speaker 1: and then they send them in the mail?
- 42:58Speaker 4: Yeah, they can. Okay.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Say them again then for our listeners, because this is important.
- 43:01Speaker 1: So say it again.
- 43:02Speaker 4: Yeah. So there's Little Professor, which is in Homewood, Alabama.
- 43:07Speaker 4: I think it's littleprofessorbookshop.com, which is just a great little
- 43:10Speaker 4: bookstore in the Birmingham area. I'm actually doing an event
- 43:14Speaker 4: there on Tuesday night, the night the book comes out.
- 43:17Speaker 4: And then Square Books, it's like a famous bookstore in Oxford, Mississippi.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Google Square Books, Oxford, it'll pop up. I'm doing an
- 43:24Speaker 4: event there on Wednesday. And so both of those places
- 43:27Speaker 4: are You can order a signed book. I think especially
- 43:30Speaker 4: the square books one that gives you an option to
- 43:32Speaker 4: personalize it. So if you want, send it to your mom,
- 43:35Speaker 4: your dad, your son, brother, put in there what you want.
- 43:38Speaker 4: I'll personalize it with anything that you want. People have
- 43:41Speaker 4: asked me to even put bad words in their personalization.
- 43:44Speaker 4: I will do it for you. So you tell me
- 43:46Speaker 4: what you want in there. I'll do it. I'll sign it.
- 43:48Speaker 4: We'll get it shipped out to you and you can
- 43:49Speaker 4: send it to anybody you want to think it might
- 43:51Speaker 4: be a good gift for.
- 43:51Speaker 1: He will draw a wiener. uh it's not the worst
- 43:57Speaker 1: thing someone's asked me to do i'll tell you that
- 43:58Speaker 1: bobby again i felt bad that we had to cancel
- 44:02Speaker 1: on you the day before but i knew you'd understand
- 44:03Speaker 1: as soon as i told you there was a murder
- 44:04Speaker 1: here because it's so bizarre that somebody was killed right
- 44:07Speaker 1: here uh i do at some point or if you're
- 44:10Speaker 1: ever in nashville i would love to spend some time
- 44:11Speaker 1: with you and do this in person i was looking
- 44:13Speaker 1: forward to it uh do we have the same agent.
- 44:18Speaker 4: I think we do uh i think that's how we
- 44:19Speaker 4: we uh we may have gotten connected here.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Or they work together is jerry your agent.
- 44:25Speaker 4: I work with Ethan, who's with Jerry. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Ah, that's pretty cool. Okay, we have another reason to
- 44:30Speaker 1: be friends then. Hey, I do really enjoy your work otherwise,
- 44:33Speaker 1: and I'm going to be so supportive of this book,
- 44:35Speaker 1: and I'm actually going to read it. I've never told
- 44:37Speaker 1: a single person that when they've come in and promoted
- 44:40Speaker 1: a book. I'm always like, that seems cool, but I'm
- 44:42Speaker 1: going to read this because I'm so interested in Lane.
- 44:46Speaker 1: And I hate him so much that I love him.
- 44:47Speaker 1: He's like, he's now my friend now, but it's like
- 44:50Speaker 1: Brandon Walker. Like I hated that dude watching him on,
- 44:53Speaker 1: I hated everything about what he would say. Shut up
- 44:56Speaker 1: at Mississippi State. Shut up about knowing everything. And I
- 44:58Speaker 1: hated him so much. I started to enjoy as a
- 45:00Speaker 1: content creator myself, how good he was. And now he's
- 45:03Speaker 1: one of my friends. So Lane to me is like
- 45:05Speaker 1: Brandon Walker, where I just, but I don't think I'd
- 45:08Speaker 1: be friends with Lane because I have artists that I
- 45:10Speaker 1: know that I have these huge personalities and they're the
- 45:13Speaker 1: way they are for a reason. They're successful for a reason.
- 45:15Speaker 1: And I can enjoy their art and understand why they're great,
- 45:18Speaker 1: but I don't think I could be personal life friends
- 45:20Speaker 1: with them. I don't feel like I could be personal
- 45:22Speaker 1: friends with Lane. I feel like our personalities are too different.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Your thoughts?
- 45:26Speaker 4: Well, one, I think Brandon is great, by the way.
- 45:29Speaker 4: And I think Brandon also, he has embraced that wrestling
- 45:32Speaker 4: heel idea where he knows that there's a show here, right?
- 45:35Speaker 4: The thing that's interesting about Lane is, one, does not
- 45:39Speaker 4: have many close friends. I talked to his childhood best
- 45:42Speaker 4: friend for this book. He really doesn't have many close friends.
- 45:45Speaker 4: And Bobby, I think the other thing that's really interesting
- 45:48Speaker 4: about Lane is that, and I kind of refer to
- 45:50Speaker 4: him as the Wizard of Oz in this book, where
- 45:52Speaker 4: I think because of his tweets and his little quips
- 45:55Speaker 4: and things like that, we think he's this huge personality.
- 45:58Speaker 4: And when you're actually in person with him, he's awkward.
- 46:02Speaker 4: He's introverted. He can be quiet. Like he's going to be,
- 46:05Speaker 4: you know, not necessarily looking you in the eye when
- 46:07Speaker 4: you talk, which again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
- 46:10Speaker 4: But I just think that fans have this perception that
- 46:12Speaker 4: this guy's like, exploding off the screen uh when you
- 46:16Speaker 4: meet him and it's really not like that and it
- 46:18Speaker 4: was almost kind of funny that like talking to people
- 46:20Speaker 4: that have worked with him at Tennessee and Ole Miss
- 46:22Speaker 4: and things like that where they're like we can't bring
- 46:24Speaker 4: this guy to like donor dinners like if he was
- 46:26Speaker 4: the Arkansas coach we want to get him in front
- 46:28Speaker 4: of Bobby like maybe he can get Bobby some money
- 46:30Speaker 4: they couldn't do it like it'll end horribly if we
- 46:32Speaker 4: try to do that like it like we will actually
- 46:34Speaker 4: lose money if we try to get him in front
- 46:36Speaker 4: of our top donors because it goes so it's like
- 46:39Speaker 4: We'll put him in like a Q & A. We'll
- 46:40Speaker 4: let him do a little spiel. But like we don't
- 46:42Speaker 4: want him in these like these moments because he just
- 46:44Speaker 4: doesn't really know how to communicate. Like if it's not
- 46:46Speaker 4: talking about football, he's not very good at being able
- 46:49Speaker 4: to just like have small talk with you. So I
- 46:51Speaker 4: always thought that was something that's just so interesting about Lane.
- 46:53Speaker 4: And another reason like why I wanted to write a
- 46:56Speaker 4: book about him is just like I think people think
- 46:58Speaker 4: because he's so great on social media, he's like this
- 47:00Speaker 4: hilarious guy in person. And like he's actually very different.
- 47:03Speaker 4: And it's very interesting just how his personality is, which
- 47:07Speaker 4: I delve into the book a lot.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Oh no. You guys want to say it?
- 47:10Speaker 5: That's you.
- 47:11Speaker 1: That's me. Maybe you all will be good friends. Everything
- 47:14Speaker 1: you just said is me. And people, when they meet
- 47:17Speaker 1: me in person, they're like, oh, this guy, either he's
- 47:19Speaker 1: a dick or he's weird. It's like, no, I just,
- 47:21Speaker 1: I kind of am on the spectrum too, a little
- 47:23Speaker 1: bit where it's like, once my microphone's not in front
- 47:25Speaker 1: of my face, everything's awkward. Maybe Lane's my best friend. Oh, no. Okay, everybody,
- 47:31Speaker 1: I hope you go and you order the book, you
- 47:34Speaker 1: get the book. John, again, thank you so much. I'm
- 47:37Speaker 1: really looking forward to meeting you in person. I love
- 47:39Speaker 1: just your writing in general. So thanks a lot. And
- 47:43Speaker 1: I hope you sell so many that you write the
- 47:46Speaker 1: next book about the success of Ryan Silverfield at Arkansas,
- 47:49Speaker 1: because he just comes out of nowhere and wins national championships.
- 47:53Speaker 4: We'd love nothing more than to do that. Appreciate you
- 47:55Speaker 4: having me on, Bobby. It was a blast. And I
- 47:57Speaker 4: look forward to meeting you in person here sometime soon.
- 47:58Speaker 1: All right, John.
- 47:59Speaker 4: Thanks, man. See you later.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Okay, if you had to pick the Super Bowl today,
- 48:09Speaker 1: and if anybody gets both teams right, we should all put.
- 48:14Speaker 4: In $ 100.
- 48:14Speaker 3: Wow.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Because no one's going to.
- 48:16Speaker 5: Oh, we might.
- 48:18Speaker 1: You have to get both teams. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you might.
- 48:21Speaker 1: But I'm saying... It's very much a probably not. So
- 48:24Speaker 1: if anybody nails both teams, do we all agree to
- 48:27Speaker 1: give them $ 100?
- 48:27Speaker 5: Love it. I'm in.
- 48:29Speaker 1: You're in.
- 48:29Speaker 4: You're in.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Mike, are you in?
- 48:30Speaker 5: I'm in.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Okay, so it's $ 300 to the winner. You just got
- 48:33Speaker 1: to nail both teams.
- 48:34Speaker 4: Dang, that's legit.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Odds of that are tough. You got to do both. Okay.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Everybody write theirs down so we don't steal each other's.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Because I know what you guys are up to. And
- 48:44Speaker 1: while you guys write it down, let me say the
- 48:46Speaker 1: wait is over. Football is here, and so is DraftKings.
- 48:49Speaker 1: DraftKings is now live in all 50 states, one app
- 48:52Speaker 1: every sport nationwide. And so let's do the parlay. I
- 48:56Speaker 1: got one loaded. I got the best one loaded.
- 48:59Speaker 4: So bad.
- 49:00Speaker 1: I got the one. This year is my year.
- 49:02Speaker 4: Amen.
- 49:03Speaker 5: You think so? Yeah.
- 49:04Speaker 1: No dignity, no doubt. So we're going Ohio State plus
- 49:11Speaker 1: one and a half points at Texas.
- 49:14Speaker 5: Wow. There's no heart in that, right? Just all brains?
- 49:17Speaker 1: A little bit of heart.
- 49:19Speaker 5: Okay.
- 49:20Speaker 4: Of heart.
- 49:20Speaker 5: Just checking.
- 49:21Speaker 4: Mostly brains. All right.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Mostly brains. A little bit of heart. Next up, Oklahoma.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Minus five and a half at Michigan.
- 49:28Speaker 5: We saw who Michigan was.
- 49:29Speaker 1: Michigan might not get a yard. Right. Oklahoma's defense is
- 49:32Speaker 1: so good. And then the third is, and you can
- 49:35Speaker 1: throw this in if you don't mind. Throw it and
- 49:37Speaker 1: see what the odds are here, Kevin. And my third
- 49:40Speaker 1: is Alabama at Kentucky. And there's a pretty big spread here,
- 49:44Speaker 1: but I'm checking the Alabama money line because I think
- 49:46Speaker 1: Kentucky has a decent shot to cover. I don't think
- 49:49Speaker 1: Alabama is what Alabama is, and I think Kentucky is
- 49:52Speaker 1: a little more than what Kentucky is. So it's going
- 49:54Speaker 1: to be Ohio State plus one and a half, Oklahoma
- 49:59Speaker 1: minus five and a half, Alabama money line. So when
- 50:03Speaker 1: you get that, hit that. And new DraftKings customers, sign

- 51:08Speaker 6: You said Oklahoma minus five and a half?
- 51:10Speaker 4: Yes.
- 51:10Speaker 6: Okay, Oklahoma minus five and a half. Sorry, the verification
- 51:14Speaker 6: took a little bit.
- 51:15Speaker 1: I love getting verified. Makes me feel alive.
- 51:17Speaker 5: You want to just do your face?
- 51:19Speaker 6: I try that and then it still sends a text.
- 51:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I get the text too. I do face and
- 51:23Speaker 1: then it sends a text.
- 51:24Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:25Speaker 6: Which, you know, it can get annoying, but it's like,
- 51:26Speaker 6: I get it and it's okay. That is plus 354.
- 51:30Speaker 1: Mike, that's good enough, right?
- 51:31Speaker 4: Yep.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Because for us to be featured up there.
- 51:34Speaker 5: Is it plus 300?
- 51:35Speaker 1: Yes. Or more?
- 51:36Speaker 5: I like it.
- 51:37Speaker 1: So that's going to be mine.
- 51:39Speaker 5: And I like that you threw in a little money
- 51:41Speaker 5: line in there. That to me, that's like my style
- 51:43Speaker 5: of doing things. Like, ah, you know what? Yeah, maybe
- 51:46Speaker 5: not pay that much, but let's throw that money line
- 51:47Speaker 5: in there. It'll boost it up a little bit of,
- 51:49Speaker 5: A little, you know, a few dollars.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Eddie, that's true.
- 51:53Speaker 5: That's my little technique.
- 51:54Speaker 1: I love to do it. Hey, Eddie, that's true. Okay.
- 51:57Speaker 1: You guys want to go to Super Bowls?
- 51:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm ready.
- 52:00Speaker 1: I'm in. Mine's written down. All right, Kevin, Super Bowl.
- 52:03Speaker 6: Super Bowl is going to be the new... Just kidding.
- 52:06Speaker 6: I want to, but the Broncos and Rams.
- 52:10Speaker 1: The Broncos' defense is so good. Yeah. And they have
- 52:13Speaker 1: Jalen Waddell now.
- 52:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:15Speaker 1: And if Bo Nix is healthy, which he's had, It
- 52:17Speaker 1: was just crazy when he got hurt, right? Because the
- 52:19Speaker 1: game was over, and he hobbles off when the game
- 52:21Speaker 1: was over.
- 52:21Speaker 6: Yeah, nobody even knew until after the celebration.
- 52:24Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:25Speaker 6: So, okay, you got Broncos and Rams.
- 52:28Speaker 4: Boom.
- 52:28Speaker 5: Where is it this year?
- 52:29Speaker 1: Los Angeles.
- 52:30Speaker 5: Love it. So, in Los Angeles.
- 52:34Speaker 1: And Miley Cyrus is doing halftime.
- 52:35Speaker 5: That's confirmed?
- 52:37Speaker 1: I believe so. Really?
- 52:38Speaker 2: Mike.
- 52:39Speaker 6: I didn't see that.
- 52:39Speaker 4: Oh.
- 52:39Speaker 5: Yeah, dude, I didn't see that.
- 52:41Speaker 1: I don't know. Sometimes I just say stuff.
- 52:42Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 52:43Speaker 5: But that'd be cool.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Maybe I got scintilled.
- 52:46Speaker 5: Okay, so in L.A. with Miley Cyrus doing the halftime show.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Yeah, she is confirmed.
- 52:52Speaker 5: Oh, good.
- 52:52Speaker 6: Not officially confirmed.
- 52:53Speaker 5: It's rumored.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Oh, so it's not confirmed.
- 52:55Speaker 5: Dang, dude, the rumor got you.
- 52:57Speaker 1: She's rumored to be confirmed.
- 52:59Speaker 5: Okay.
- 53:00Speaker 4: Eddie?
- 53:00Speaker 5: I have the Cowboys versus the Bills. A repeat from
- 53:03Speaker 5: the 90s.
- 53:04Speaker 1: That's a good one. That's a good one.
- 53:07Speaker 5: I think that'd be awesome.
- 53:08Speaker 1: You, is that your heart?
- 53:09Speaker 5: No, no, no, no. Just look at the numbers and
- 53:12Speaker 5: you know, everything on paper. I think the Cowboys are
- 53:14Speaker 5: going to, you know, they're going to take the NFC.
- 53:17Speaker 6: A repeat from 30 plus years ago. Okay.
- 53:21Speaker 5: And of course I'm going to have them winning. So
- 53:22Speaker 5: there you go.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Mike was in the womb. Uh, okay.
- 53:26Speaker 5: Mike, I have the Rams and the bills.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Okay. So you got two Rams.
- 53:32Speaker 2: I like it.
- 53:32Speaker 1: You and him both have the Rams.
- 53:33Speaker 4: Yep.
- 53:34Speaker 1: And then you and Eddie both have the Bills.
- 53:35Speaker 5: We both have the Bills. Interesting.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Okay. I have the Ravens.
- 53:42Speaker 5: And the Rams.
- 53:43Speaker 4: All right.
- 53:44Speaker 6: Big Rams believers in here except for just one.
- 53:47Speaker 5: I mean, there's only one team that needs to stop
- 53:50Speaker 5: the Rams. It's the Cowboys. Because yes, if you look
- 53:52Speaker 5: at it now.
- 53:53Speaker 1: It's Seattle, dude.
- 53:54Speaker 5: There is Seattle. But if you look at it now,
- 53:56Speaker 5: the Rams just seem like no-brainer. Like 100%. These guys are.
- 54:00Speaker 1: I just don't think there's a no-brainer ever.
- 54:02Speaker 4: Right.
- 54:03Speaker 5: That's why I think the Cowboys are going to be
- 54:05Speaker 5: the ones that stop them.
- 54:07Speaker 1: So in preparation for the next NFL season, several executives
- 54:10Speaker 1: around the league were asked their thoughts and predictions on
- 54:12Speaker 1: which players and coaches would end up winning the postseason awards.
- 54:15Speaker 1: So they tallied all the votes. And so again, they
- 54:19Speaker 1: did executives... Just executives. So yeah, okay. Are you ready?
- 54:25Speaker 4: Yep.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Most valuable player, according to the executives, who do you
- 54:29Speaker 1: think they picked? Or do you guys want to pick
- 54:32Speaker 1: who you think it'll be?
- 54:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I was going to go where Kevin
- 54:34Speaker 5: was going.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Okay, you do who you think it'll be. And I'll
- 54:38Speaker 1: step out because I already see who it is. Or
- 54:40Speaker 1: I can play. This doesn't affect me.
- 54:42Speaker 6: I think it's going to be Dak Prescott.
- 54:44Speaker 5: Oh, interesting. I'll go with Josh Allen.
- 54:46Speaker 1: I'll go Lamar Jackson. Mike?
- 54:50Speaker 5: Give me Prescott.
- 54:51Speaker 1: The league executives have selected Joe Burrow.
- 54:54Speaker 4: Man.
- 54:55Speaker 1: And if he's healthy, yeah. Yes.
- 54:57Speaker 6: Five years in a row, if he's healthy.
- 54:59Speaker 4: I know.
- 54:59Speaker 5: We say that every year.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Offensive player of the year. It won't be a quarterback. Okay.
- 55:06Speaker 5: Hmm. Give me Jameer Gibbs.
- 55:10Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what I'm going with.
- 55:11Speaker 5: Jameer.
- 55:12Speaker 1: I'd have went Bajon. Yeah.
- 55:14Speaker 6: If he was on a better team.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Oh, it's a great point. That's a great point. That's
- 55:18Speaker 1: a great point. Then I would have gone Justin Jefferson.
- 55:21Speaker 4: Love that. Mike?
- 55:22Speaker 1: Give me Nakua. Nice. Yeah.
- 55:24Speaker 5: That's good.
- 55:26Speaker 1: They voted Jameer Gibbs.
- 55:27Speaker 5: Oh, okay. So me and the execs.
- 55:29Speaker 1: You and Kevin and the execs. Defensive player of the year.
- 55:37Speaker 4: I mean.
- 55:37Speaker 5: Aaron Donald.
- 55:38Speaker 4: Stop.
- 55:41Speaker 6: It's got to be Myles Garrett.
- 55:42Speaker 1: I would have thought Myles Garrett, too. It's got to be.
- 55:44Speaker 1: He has an actual reason to play hard. Yeah. He
- 55:46Speaker 1: played hard without a reason.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:48Speaker 5: What's his reason now?
- 55:49Speaker 1: He's playing on a team that's actually playing for something.
- 55:51Speaker 1: And you have to think, too, the Browns were losing
- 55:53Speaker 1: every game when he was playing. It's tough. So the
- 55:58Speaker 1: teams that were playing offense against him were just running
- 56:00Speaker 1: the ball the whole time because they were trying to
- 56:02Speaker 1: run the clock out. So it's not like he had
- 56:03Speaker 1: a lot of opportunities in the fourth quarter because they
- 56:05Speaker 1: were losing the whole time.
- 56:05Speaker 5: Good point.
- 56:07Speaker 1: I would have guessed Miles Garrett. Mike? Give me Will
- 56:10Speaker 1: Anderson Jr. That is who they pick, Will Anderson Jr.
- 56:13Speaker 1: for the Texans. Offensive rookie of the year.
- 56:18Speaker 5: Jeremiah Love.
- 56:20Speaker 4: Good guess.
- 56:20Speaker 1: Is that the only one you think of?
- 56:21Speaker 5: No. I mean, yeah, I guess. No, there's Tate.
- 56:26Speaker 1: From the Titans?
- 56:27Speaker 5: Yeah, the Titans.
- 56:28Speaker 1: I wasn't saying that like insulting. Because I can only
- 56:30Speaker 1: think of one defensive player that's a rookie that I think.
- 56:33Speaker 4: Yeah, me too.
- 56:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm trying to think.
- 56:36Speaker 1: And the only reason I have my guess, and I
- 56:38Speaker 1: happen to be right with who they guess, is because
- 56:40Speaker 1: of fantasy. It's the only reason.
- 56:42Speaker 5: Okay.
- 56:42Speaker 1: So to me, it wasn't that I'm so smart and
- 56:45Speaker 1: know all the personnel. No. I've just been studying fantasy,
- 56:47Speaker 1: and this is the person that I made a point
- 56:49Speaker 1: to draft because Charbonnet's hurt. Ah. Yeah, Jadarian Price.
- 56:54Speaker 4: Jadarian Price. Yeah.
- 56:55Speaker 1: So I would have guessed him, but only because of fantasy.
- 56:57Speaker 6: I probably would have guessed Cornel Tate.
- 56:59Speaker 1: Titans.
- 57:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:00Speaker 1: I thought Caleb Downs just because of the Cowboys. Well,
- 57:03Speaker 1: that's defense. Oh. I don't know. We yell at him.
- 57:07Speaker 1: You stupid idiot.
- 57:08Speaker 5: Because that's who I had locked and loaded for defense.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Defensive Rookie of the Year, Caleb Downs.
- 57:12Speaker 4: Downs.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Caleb Downs?
- 57:13Speaker 6: Yeah, that's who I would guess.
- 57:14Speaker 1: That's who they guessed.
- 57:15Speaker 5: He's going to be awesome, dude.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Comeback player of the year.
- 57:18Speaker 5: Joe Burrow.
- 57:19Speaker 6: Joe Flacco.
- 57:20Speaker 1: Every year it's Joe Burrow. Yeah, or Joe Flacco. No,
- 57:24Speaker 1: think different because this one's interesting because it wasn't like
- 57:28Speaker 1: this guy had a bad season. He got hurt.
- 57:30Speaker 5: I got it.
- 57:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:31Speaker 5: Scataboo.
- 57:31Speaker 1: No. He was never there to come back. Oh, dude.
- 57:36Speaker 6: I'm trying to think who got hurt.
- 57:38Speaker 1: Somebody got hurt. Big deal. We wondered if he was
- 57:40Speaker 1: going to be able to play.
- 57:41Speaker 5: Was it Bo Nix?
- 57:43Speaker 1: No, but okay, we're dancing.
- 57:44Speaker 5: Okay.
- 57:46Speaker 6: Oh, Patrick Mahomes.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Yes.
- 57:48Speaker 5: Comeback player.
- 57:49Speaker 4: Yep.
- 57:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Daniel Jones will be interesting too.
- 57:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:54Speaker 5: Oh, he did get injured at the end of the year, huh?
- 57:56Speaker 1: Towards Achilles.
- 57:56Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right.
- 57:57Speaker 1: And they're saying he's going to start week one.
- 57:59Speaker 4: Yeah. Crazy.
- 58:00Speaker 5: He's crazy.
- 58:01Speaker 1: Okay, breakout player. You're not going to get this.
- 58:04Speaker 5: Breakout? It could be. Fernando Mendoza.
- 58:09Speaker 4: Brock Bowers.
- 58:11Speaker 1: Matthew Golden from the Packers.
- 58:12Speaker 5: Oh.
- 58:13Speaker 1: Coach of the year.
- 58:15Speaker 6: Diana, I mean.
- 58:17Speaker 5: What on earth? You're crazy, dude. Vrabel?
- 58:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm going to guess.
- 58:27Speaker 1: I would have guessed.
- 58:29Speaker 6: I'm trying to think of a young, who's.
- 58:32Speaker 1: Okay, I would have guessed Kubiak leaving from Seattle.
- 58:36Speaker 4: Yeah, to the Raiders.
- 58:37Speaker 1: Going to the Raiders. If they are mid to better,
- 58:40Speaker 1: my guess would have probably been Kubiak.
- 58:42Speaker 6: I'll go Schottenheimer.
- 58:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm going to go Schottenheimer because he's going to
- 58:44Speaker 5: take him to the Super Bowl.
- 58:45Speaker 1: The Cowboys?
- 58:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 58:46Speaker 1: They pick Brian Schottenheimer.
- 58:48Speaker 5: Boom! See, we're on the same page, guys.
- 58:51Speaker 1: I mean, I could have cheated and picked them all.
- 58:53Speaker 5: No, I know. Thank you for not doing that.
- 58:56Speaker 1: Do you want to know, in our league, what teams
- 58:58Speaker 1: we drafted?
- 58:59Speaker 5: Yes! Are you curious?
- 59:00Speaker 1: Yeah, we haven't told you at all. Because... I.
- 59:03Speaker 5: Don't even remember.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I have them up.
- 59:05Speaker 4: Don't worry.
- 59:05Speaker 5: You got them?
- 59:06Speaker 4: All right.
- 59:06Speaker 6: Here's how I got it.
- 59:07Speaker 1: For those that are listening, we play in a, it's
- 59:08Speaker 1: called a skins league. And we lost five grand last year.
- 59:14Speaker 4: Right?
- 59:14Speaker 1: About $ 5, 000. I guess.
- 59:15Speaker 5: Mine was like two something.
- 59:16Speaker 1: As a group, yeah. You had 25% of the team. Yeah, yeah.
- 59:20Speaker 1: So the year before, I had my own team. And
- 59:23Speaker 1: I won 4,800 or so. Maybe 5,800. Whatever it was.
- 59:30Speaker 1: And what you do is you draft teams. And if
- 59:32Speaker 1: they win, you win. And if they lose, you don't win.
- 59:35Speaker 1: But when everybody else wins, you have to pay them.
- 59:38Speaker 1: And so it can get out of control fast, but
- 59:40Speaker 1: it can also, you can get way up fast. It's
- 59:42Speaker 1: almost like craps.
- 59:43Speaker 4: Sure.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Like it can all go quick and craps.
- 59:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 59:46Speaker 1: So what you do is there's six of us on
- 59:48Speaker 1: the Zoom, six teams, and you snake draft one through six,
- 59:52Speaker 1: back and forth, 36 picks. And you're wondering, well, there
- 59:55Speaker 1: aren't that many teams. Well, you can draft teams to
- 59:57Speaker 1: win or draft teams to lose. And if they lose,
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: and you have them to lose, you get money every
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: time they lose. In the first round, we had two
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: losers taken, which has never happened before.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: Wow, two.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: And the reason is not because they don't lose a lot.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: It's because once it gets to the playoffs, they have
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: no chance to make extra money. But who do you
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: think the two teams to lose were?
- 1:00:18Speaker 6: First come to mind is Cardinals. And the second are
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: the Dolphins.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: That's exactly it. They were both drafted in the first round.
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: I had the third overall pick. I think I bid
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: $ 100 to get the third overall pick. And so, let
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: me get them up here.
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: I was confused by that. And I think every year
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: I'm confused by it. So when you pay or bid
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: to get the pick or whatever, you have to pay
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: that money? So that just goes into what?
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: The final number that we pay. Even last year, I
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: think I bid $ 100 and we ended up paying the
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: $ 100 on it. And you just are bidding because if
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: there's a team you want. Like Matt Stell went first.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Like I have the order.
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: And he bid the highest?
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Yeah, he bid $ 200 for that first pick.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: Saw him on a billboard.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: I did too.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Matt Stell?
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: Yeah, his new song.
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: He's got a new single out.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good. Yeah. Yeah, it's good. Let me see here.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: What would that thread be called?
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: Our thread? No, I have it. Skins.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: All right. No, our thread's called NFL Make Money.
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: Yeah, Make Money NFL. Nice. Hope we're right. Or we'll
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: have to change that name.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Okay, so the first pick overall was the Rams winner. Fair.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: The second pick overall was the Cardinals loser.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: Dang.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: I know, quickest I've ever seen a loser pick. And
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: I think that's going to be a great pick, and
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: it's going to make them a lot of money. But
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: I've just been burned doing that because at the end
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: of the year, sometimes they squeak out a couple.
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: Sure.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: And then also, there's five weeks, four weeks of the
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: playoffs that you can't make any money at all.
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: Yeah, Patriots saved us last year in the playoffs.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: Patriots saved us all year, dude.
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: The whole year.
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: That too, that too.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: Okay, I had a third pick. And Kevin, who do
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: you think I picked? Because we all kind of had
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: a pick. I had a pick that I picked. Eddie
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: had a pick he picked. Signs had a pick that
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: he picked. And then we just kind of as a
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: team did the other three because we were all on.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Trying to think who's... And what I factored in was
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: a team that I felt like was good and would win,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: but also strength of schedule.
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: So I was thinking, like, the first team that popped
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: into the Seahawks, but I think they're going to have
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: a hard schedule and they're playing the Rams twice a year,
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: so I wouldn't go Seahawks. A good team, strength of schedule... It's.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Too early, but Context clue was what we talked about earlier.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: Bucs. Bucs.
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: Context clue, what we talked about earlier.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Super Bowl.
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: Did you pick the Cowboys?
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: No, I didn't.
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: It was his pick.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: It was my pick.
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: Eddie wanted to. I already forgot who you picked.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: I picked Baltimore.
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: Oh, duh. The Ravens.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I picked the Ravens.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: Ravens.
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: What do you think?
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: I think it's solid.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: And that's what I want. I wanted a solid first
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: round pick. I feel like their strength of schedule... is
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: on the lower end of strong, and I think they're
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: going to be really good this year.
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: Because they didn't even make the playoffs last year. So
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: they'll play like the third team in each division. Yeah,
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: they'll be good.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: And like mentors a coach.
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: And so I just hear people raving about him. So
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: we went with the Ravens' first overall pick.
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: After that, there was a Dolphins loser. Then somebody picked
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: the Lions.
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: Oh, wow.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Then someone picked the Bills. Now, the Bills are going
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: to have a tough schedule. The reason I didn't pick
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: the Bills is because I do think they could probably
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: win the Super Bowl.
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: But if you play a hard schedule and you get
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: to the playoffs as a wild card, then you win
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, you still don't really make as much
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: money as you would have if you won 13 or
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: 14 games.
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: Correct. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Okay, so that was the first six. Then we're on
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: to the second round. Then they picked the Seahawks. Okay.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: The Bengals.
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: That wasn't you guys?
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: That wasn't us.
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Because it's Snake. It's Snake. After the Bengals was the Eagles. Okay.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: And then now it's back to us.
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: Oh, you guys want Cowboys.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Well, I gave Eddie the option of the pick.
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: Which I didn't know he was going to give me
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: the option.
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: How nervous were you?
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: Not nervous at all.
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: You didn't feel any pressure after last year?
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: No, no, because it was all Bobby's decision. And then
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: he starts like fumbling.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: I'm not fumbling. I had a full grid.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: On the Zoom.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: No, there's no fumbling.
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: What do you mean fumbling?
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: I had a full grid.
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: He was kind of like rubbing his head.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: I was doing a little show.
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: And then he goes, Eddie, should we?
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Nice.
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: And I go, let's go Cowboys.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: So we got the Cowboys.
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: Nice.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: That's a good one, man.
- 1:04:23Speaker 6: That's a good one.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: Cowboys are in the second round. I do believe.
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: I do believe.
- 1:04:28Speaker 6: I like that one.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Then the Pats.
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Then the Jets loser.
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Now we're at the third round. Texans winner, Broncos winner.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Now it's back to us. And I'll say this. I
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: picked a loser in this third round. So who do
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: you think, because there's been a couple losers so far.
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: Yeah, you got the Cardinals, Dolphins.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Yeah, there's only been two losers. There's been the, no,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: there's been three.
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: Three.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: Yeah, there's been the Jets, the Dolphins, and the Cardinals.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Who do you think I picked as a loser next?
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: Has to be the Browns.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: It is the Browns.
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: Boom.
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: Nice.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: Glad you said that.
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: I know, right?
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: After that, Titans loser, 49ers winners, Raiders losers. And after
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: this third round, it gets to be hard because everybody's
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: predicted around 500. Yeah. Then it's Chargers. The Chiefs winners
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: didn't go until the fourth round.
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: That's nuts.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: I would have taken them if they'd have been available
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: in the fourth round, but I wasn't going to take
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: them before the Browns losers.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Don't blame me.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Okay, here we go. Chiefs winners, Packers winners, and then
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: it's to me. We let Mike Sines pick, and I
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: don't think it was a bad pick.
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: But it's a winner.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: We picked a winner here. And this one is, we
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: think they're going to be pretty good, but also the
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: division they play in.
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: Is it the Vikings?
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: I think it's a tough division.
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: It is a tough division.
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: I picked them because I think they can win their division.
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: Oh, the Bucs.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Same reason, but no, different division.
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: Dang.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Different conference.
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: Different conference.
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: AFC.
- 1:06:00Speaker 6: So you have the Texans, the Colts?
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: Jags.
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: Jags. Okay.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Feel pretty solid.
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: That's a good one.
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:07Speaker 6: Because they could either win 12 games and it's like, okay,
- 1:06:12Speaker 6: they got a good team, but they're also the Jags.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: And they could win nine and get in the playoffs
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: and maybe surprise.
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: True. That is true.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: And it's hard. These backgrounds are tough.
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: Are they going to live overseas for another month?
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Know, dude.
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: I think they're playing. Aren't they playing?
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: They always do. All their games are. Then there's Bears winners,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: Vikings winners, Panthers losers, Falcons losers. I did take a
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: loser in this. This is the next to last round.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: Ooh.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: I have a loser here.
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: This pick kind of struck me. weird because i wouldn't
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: have thought it but then the more i sit on
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: it i'm like this is a good pick.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: It's such a hard round though six and five and
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: six because you're out of all the good teams and
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: all the bad teams you're just at all mids and
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: so you got to kind of pick which direction you
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: want the mids yes.
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: I can't remember if they already got picked it up
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: the raiders losers raiders losers got picked okay before that
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: right okay.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: Um this one could bite us in the butt The
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: last two always can bite you in the butt.
- 1:07:11Speaker 5: Like you said, Kevin, it's really close which way they
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: can go.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: We're screaming 500 here.
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: But the Bucs already got picked. Falcons already got picked.
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: AFC.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: It is AFC.
- 1:07:24Speaker 6: Okay. C-South.
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: Texans. Titans. Stay there.
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: Oh, it is the Colts. Colts lose. Yeah. Okay.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: Would you have picked a Colts winner or a Colts loser?
- 1:07:33Speaker 6: Oh, gosh. Probably.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Uh probably a loser i know probably though right yeah.
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: But because i just don't trust daniel jones coming off
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: that injury and they lost pitman as a receiver yeah
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: and they i mean the jags and texans are going
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: to be good so yeah probably a loser.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Yeah uh then giants losers was taken saints winners was
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: taken bucks winners was taken um and it went snake
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: that was gonna take the bucks before I was going
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: to take the Colts loser, but since it's Snake the
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: other way, Bucks got picked before.
- 1:08:06Speaker 6: They freaking stressed us out last year.
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: They did.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Then Commanders loser, Colts winners. So Colts winners got taken
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: in the last round because everybody was torn. And so
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: we have one other loser team. Wow. And the last
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: two picks were somebody picking this team to win and
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: us picking them to lose. Oh, my. We're scrounging.
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I was going to say.
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: I didn't even realize.
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: I don't remember this pick. I'm trying to think of it.
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: Jets, no.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Giants, no. Hurt quarterback. Not hurt anymore, but he was hurt.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Now he's just old.
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: Now he's just old, Kevin.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: I think Rico Dow's playing as a running back.
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: Yeah, he is.
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: Oh, the Steelers.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Steelers.
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Steelers loser.
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: That's, I mean, that could be great because the Ravens
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: play them twice too.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: So we have Ravens winner, Cowboy winner, Jags winner.
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: Ravens, Cowboys, Jags.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: And then we have Browns losers, which I feel good
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: about that one.
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: And then the two that are always tough in the
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: last two rounds, the Colts and the Steelers losers. Just
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: go 500, guys. We're good.
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: That's all we need.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: And we'll have our other four win some games.
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: That's a good one.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we felt pretty good about it.
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: Did you feel weird not having your strategy of doing
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: winner-loser team?
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: I couldn't because when I draft, it came back on
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: the back way, and they drafted Steelers winners, and so
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: I had to– no, no, after I drafted Colts losers.
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: You wanted to do winners on that?
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: They drafted Colts winners like four picks after.
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Because I would have done that.
- 1:09:41Speaker 5: That would have been the one.
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, like we did last year?
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: So that's the team that– make money team that you're
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: not in.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: I'll be rooting for you guys.
- 1:09:50Speaker 5: You're in the team, though. Do you want in?
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: No, but I'm going to be rooting for you guys.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: Our team, we want the Ravens, Cowboys, and Jags to win.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Let's go, baby. We want the Browns, Colts, and Steelers
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: to lose. The big Cowboys. Yeah, yeah, big Cowboys.
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: Podcast here.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: The big Cowboys guys here. Did somebody touch your kids
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: this weekend?
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: What the... Yeah, dude.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: What happened?
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: So.
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: We're out at breakfast, me, my wife, and my two kids.
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: And somebody, our waitress, she comes up and she's like, oh,
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: you know, kids.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: Oh, your kids are cute.
- 1:10:25Speaker 6: Oh, thank you. And then she just rubs my little
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: boy's hair, dude. Like rubs his head, like her fingers
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: through his head. And I'm like, interesting.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Okay. And she was super nice. I was like, whatever.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: It is what it is.
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: And then we went to a department store after that.
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: And we're looking at buying something. And this guy is
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: hanging out and helping us. And he's like, Looks at
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: my little boy, he's sitting in the cart, and he's like, oh,
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: you're so cute. And he tickled him, dude, in his ribs.
- 1:10:51Speaker 6: And I'm like, okay, two times in one day?
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: Like, is this normal? That one feels more weird than
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: the first one.
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: Yeah, the first one I feel like it's okay.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Only because it's a woman.
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: And the hair.
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: The hair's fine, like a little brush of the hair.
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: Okay, but the guy tickling him.
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: I don't like that.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: I don't like that either. Two reasons. One, guy.
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Two, don't touch his body. All right. Don't touch him
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: at all. But second, don't touch his rib.
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: Now, this is a stranger rule, right?
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: Like, if you don't know the parents or the babies.
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: Yeah, if I know you, like, oh, yeah, yeah. Hey,
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: this is my little boy.
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: I feel like I do that, you know, like with,
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: you know, kids that I know, you know, and their
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: parents do. I'm just like, ah, a little rib on
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: the shoulder.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: Even if you get a little, like, close, you're like, hey,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: or peek-a-boo, whatever.
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: But, like, to, like, touch, you know, to tickle him,
- 1:11:36Speaker 6: I'm like.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: That's bizarre.
- 1:11:38Speaker 6: That's weird.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: We're going to leave. What did you say?
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: Did you punch him?
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: I didn't say anything. I stuffed him in the fridge.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: You thanked him for touching your kid? Yeah. No, I
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: didn't do anything.
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: I was like, okay.
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: The fact that it was the second time in one day,
- 1:11:49Speaker 6: I was like, okay, let's go home.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: Is this just a segment of you bragging how cute
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: your kids are, though? No.
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: It's Kevin flexing that everyone wants to touch his kids
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: because they're so cute?
- 1:11:59Speaker 6: No, I wouldn't do that. I mean, I don't need
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: to do that.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: But are your toys really cute?
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: I mean, yeah, they're my kids.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: Of course, they're really cute. Doesn't everybody think their kids
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: are so cute?
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: Like my second son, I thought he was the cutest
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: thing in the whole wide world. But I look at
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: pictures now and I'm like, oh, gosh, he was so ugly.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Like he was so ugly, dude.
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: And it's nuts because I remember thinking he was the
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: cutest little baby ever. And I know, and I remember
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: people would even laugh at me like, he's so cute.
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: Now I know what that laugh meant. He was not
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: cute at all. He was pretty ugly.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Have you told him that?
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: Nah, never.
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: Will you tell him? You won't tell him?
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Nah. He didn't watch this though.
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: Uh-uh.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Nah, nah, nah.
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: I don't think so.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I feel like except for, but you even thought then
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: he was cute. I thought he was so cute. Everybody
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: thinks their kids are so cute.
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: Until what point? Because my kids are 15, 16 months now,
- 1:12:53Speaker 6: and I'm like, they're still just adorable.
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: I think you will always think that they're really cute.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: What if in like five years, though, you look at
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: your second son and be like, dang, he was ugly
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: when I was talking about him on the show that day.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: It's just constantly. He's always ugly.
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: He's 30 years old.
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: You just have no idea. He's still ugly. You're like, no,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: at 30, you're like, he's a good looking guy, right?
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: You see him at 25, you're like, oh, he's ugly.
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: Hey, you guys. Yeah.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: All right, before we wrap this show, here are my
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: five super hot takes. I actually wrote this when I
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: was on the Rich Eisen Show and I never got
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: to it.
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: Cool.
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: This is Rich Eisen material.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: Well, so I had it and I never used it.
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: Because I went into that. I'm just loaded because it's
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: all talk for three hours. Yeah. So you're in and
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: I don't want to be somebody who's just like scrounging
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: for stuff. So I had so many segments that I
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: had planned I never got to do. But this was
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: going to be my... Five super hot takes on Rich Eisenstein.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: And also, I kind of wanted to rattle the cage
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: a little bit. I wanted to talk about Kaitlyn Clark
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: because I like being a Kaitlyn Clark supporter, defender.
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: So here we go.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: Number five, Kaitlyn Clark is already more important to her
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: league than any athlete is to theirs right now. Not
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: the best, but the most important. There's a big difference there.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: And then I had, because she had just scored 37
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: points when I wrote that. Her 37-point performance is another
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: reminder of the attention surrounding her. So, again, I don't
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: think she's the best of everyone and their league, but
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: she is the most important athlete in their respective league
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: right now in American sports.
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: Hot take?
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: I don't think it's that hot.
- 1:14:30Speaker 6: I'm trying to think of a counter of who else
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: it could be, but when it comes to their sport,
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: I mean, LeBron is probably the only, but even he's
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: faded out the.
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: Last couple years.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: He's holding out.
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:40Speaker 6: And there's not really a young person in the NBA
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: you can point to.
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: NFL.
- 1:14:43Speaker 6: I feel like the NFL is going to stay on
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: top no matter who is the face.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: But there's not one dominant NFL person that makes news
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: regardless of what they do.
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: No.
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: I mean, Travis Kelsey is probably the biggest just because
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: of Taylor Swift.
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: That's a good point.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: You know, I was going to go Josh Allen, but
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: because of just the play. But yeah, Travis Kelsey is
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: holding out.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: He's famous, but he's not important to the league. He's just– No.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Someone who gets a lot of clicks. So anyway, that
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: was my number five.
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: And then they would go, number four. And they all
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: weren't sports. That's where I was going to throw them
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: with the curveball.
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: Okay. Yeah.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Number four was people who genuinely believe in astrology or
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: tarot card reading should never be taken seriously in anything
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: else they do either.
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: I like that one.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Because people that really are like, oh. Oh, you're a Cancer?
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: I'm a Leprechaun, and we'd go together. Or whatever they are, Capricorn.
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: So people who really live their life. Yeah, who believe,
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: believe it. Because there's no scientific evidence that any of
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: that is true. Right. Like nothing with horoscopes, none, zero.
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: It's fantasy land.
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Okay, number three. Aaron Rodgers going back to Pittsburgh was
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: more about Pittsburgh being addicted to being pretty good than
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: chasing a Super Bowl. Because they're not going to win
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: a Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:16:00Speaker 6: Heck no.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: And they could have cut bait. And I think they
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: have four quarterbacks in that quarterback room right now.
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: They could have gone and just lost and done a Miami,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: done a Cleveland, done a Arizona, done that. But they
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: wanted Rodgers for another year. And I think they just
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: are just kind of obsessed with being a little bit
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: above 500 or 500. Yeah.
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: And that was a time when they cut bait with
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: their head coach, Tomlin, for after, what, 15, 20 years,
- 1:16:25Speaker 6: whatever it was. And you still can't cut the bait?
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: So, yeah.
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: I think Pittsburgh, that organization, is addicted to being pretty good.
- 1:16:32Speaker 6: Which would be frustrating as a fan.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: Number two, elected officials and judges should have to retire
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: by age 75.
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: That's it.
- 1:16:43Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: There's no reason.
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: Not really a hot take.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: No.
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: Yeah, man, because we've seen.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: We worry if people are 80 driving a car.
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Just straight up. And our last two presidents have been 100. Yeah.
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: The pendulum's got to swing, but the problem is it's
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: going to be baby president. It's going to be somebody
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: super young next. And it could be.
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: What's the youngest age?
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: Ever? I don't know. I'd probably put Kennedy as youngest elected.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: I think maybe there was a president younger than him
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: that was put in. Mike, in fact, checked me on this,
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: but I think Kennedy was the youngest ever elected. Maybe
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Bill Clinton was second, but I think there may have
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: been one that was put in office that was younger
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: that wasn't elected.
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: I think Obama was younger than Bill Clinton, right? Possibly.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: Mike, what do you see?
- 1:17:28Speaker 6: Kennedy was the youngest at 43 years old and Teddy
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: Roosevelt at 42.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Teddy was 42? But he went in... Assassination, yeah. After assassination.
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: Oh, got it.
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: Got it. So he was forced in.
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: But yeah, youngest elected was JFK.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: Hey, pretty good.
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: Pretty good, dude.
- 1:17:41Speaker 6: How old do you have to be?
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: 35?
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: I don't... After the pendulum swings?
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: 12.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: Okay. Perfect. Perfect. We're going to have teenage president.
- 1:17:49Speaker 6: Now you can't drive your car because you're not old enough.
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: And here was my number one.
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: Rings.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: are the most overrated argument in sports. Championships matter, but
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: we've gotten lazy and we've turned every individual debate into
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: jewelry and rings. Robert Ori has seven rings. Charles Barkley
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: has zero rings. Nobody with functioning eyes or a brain
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: thinks Robert Ori was better. Winning is evidence, but it's
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: not the entire case. And in reality, none of those
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: were hot takes. I just say that at the beginning
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: because they all make a lot of sense.
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: I agree with all of them.
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: So that was it. Yeah.
- 1:18:24Speaker 6: I feel like it's their go-to argument. But even with Brady,
- 1:18:27Speaker 6: I'm like, oh, he has the most rings. But he
- 1:18:28Speaker 6: also was the greatest.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: No, it's ring-based. Brady's is ring-based fully. Because if you're
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: taking a quarterback, you take all the rings away. I'm
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: not taking Brady first.
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: Who are you taking?
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: Peyton Manning.
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: Oh, stop.
- 1:18:39Speaker 6: One season. One Super Bowl run.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: It's not even that. He was his own offensive coordinator.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: Like he actually ran the offense. But I'm not saying
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: he's better because you have to go– because it's close
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: and then you go to championships.
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: Yeah, and then it's not close.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: So if you were to say there was never a
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Super Bowl played and we're just looking at these guys
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: playing regular seasons, I'm taking Peyton Manning over anybody.
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: And then probably Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: Okay. Okay.
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: You just like the guys that just talk and yell
- 1:19:10Speaker 6: at the line of scrimmage.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: And does weird stuff.
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: It's hard to take any of.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: Those 80s quarterbacks like Joe Montana because they just didn't
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: have to throw the ball a lot.
- 1:19:20Speaker 5: Joe Montana, Jerry Rice connection was.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: I think, though, if I were taking, I would take
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: Steve Young over Joe Montana. I think he was a
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: better quarterback.
- 1:19:27Speaker 6: Now we're on hot takes.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: Well, because Steve Young could run.
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: Sure, yes.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: And playing in today's league, Steve Young would... fit much
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: better than Montana. Yeah. He was also a champion, too.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: Dan Marino?
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: Marino's good. Another one.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: Later on, he couldn't move his legs, but Peyton Manning
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: couldn't move his head and his neck, so. Yeah.
- 1:19:45Speaker 6: Rodgers can't move anything either.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: All right. That's it. Thank you, guys. Hope you guys
