- 0:45Here once again with Joe to talk about more Jodie Whittaker Joe,
- 0:49how's it going? Marvelous, thank you very much.
- 0:53Talking about Jodi whiskers. One of our favorite things to
- 0:55do. It's all we ever do or people
- 0:58will think. So, the amount of wants, I
- 1:03believe you're in a quite, a clone cold climate of the
- 1:05moment. I am in a cold climates.
- 1:08I'm up. I'm about two and a half.
- 1:09Thousand feet up in a little ski.
- 1:12It's a town in Austria with work and a podcasting live from there
- 1:16to keep myself out of trouble. This is the most stylish podcast
- 1:20on, you know, it's in a nice. Snowy location.
- 1:24Are you having fun? I'm having a lovely time.
- 1:27It's a lot of hard work. And I'm trying to keep out of
- 1:29trouble in the evenings doing podcast and stuff like that.
- 1:32What what nobody knows is. But well, you'll notice because
- 1:35I missed you last night, but to two floors down, David Bradley's
- 1:38down there. Because he's in the film of
- 1:40Macon. Oh, a giant never thought
- 1:43there'd be a porno of David Bradley but it takes all sorts
- 1:49of, you know. Well, quite wow.
- 1:52I obviously, we can't disclose what you are filming, but one
- 1:57day you'll be able to write. Yeah, it'll be announced in the
- 1:59Press of the next few weeks. I should say guys it's most of
- 2:03you won't even know what this is.
- 2:04They could you won't know the first film.
- 2:06So it's not like I'm just gonna be like what still am working on
- 2:08our its bondage. James Bond, or Doctor Who the
- 2:11movie? It's just a, it's a job.
- 2:14It's an exciting job is going to be a lot of fun.
- 2:16When it's finished, you telling me you're not working on dogs.
- 2:18Hate a movie. Unfortunately.
- 2:20Not one day. One day David.
- 2:27We are here today to talk about. Is this a little bit about the
- 2:33flocks? We're going to be doing all six
- 2:36episodes. I'm so pleased that you agreed
- 2:39to that also. It's episodes of this.
- 2:42You and I are both incredibly fond of this season in the last
- 2:46episode. We recorded, I think we both put
- 2:49it third in when we saw our top three seasons.
- 2:53That's pretty high, you know, giving out a little bit.
- 2:58Do you think that's a sort of consensus point of view?
- 3:02No, I don't think it is, but I also think this is one of those
- 3:06Seasons that as time moves on. I think it'll get re-evaluated
- 3:11and I think people will start to love it more.
- 3:14I think people were far too concerned with the ratings and
- 3:18where it was going and all their theories with different plot
- 3:21points and things like that. And that didn't turn out to be
- 3:23true. So their own sort of their own
- 3:26theories, kind of spoiled what was actually going.
- 3:28The on-screen essentially I think but I think it remains a
- 3:33unique series of Doctor Who there is nothing else like it
- 3:37and I think you give it a few years and when it's you know
- 3:41repeat but not repeated you like the repeats anymore but when the
- 3:44big Blu-ray version that comes out when it's repeated on BBC
- 3:49Two on you can't a gold but no I think when the bells and
- 3:53whistles Blu-ray version of it comes out one day.
- 3:56Everybody will go what a fantastic. 8-bit of Television,
- 3:59that was Okay, so when it comes to season 11 and season 12.
- 4:06Yeah, I understand why a certain portion of yours wouldn't like
- 4:10those two takes on the show. One is, you know, as we said,
- 4:14one is very continuity, light, sort of Sunday, evening, serial
- 4:20type daughter here in the other is going completely downward
- 4:22direction and, you know, throwing a fucking ball models,
- 4:25who continuity and watching. All the debris rain down and
- 4:29fandom cry in the Owner. I have a bit baffled that more
- 4:36people. Don't celebrate this because
- 4:38I've watched this through a good number of times.
- 4:40Now I don't think I'm not critical viewer.
- 4:46Like Jesus. Go listen to me.
- 4:48Talking about Steven Moffat stories but minute by minute, I
- 4:53think this is hugely entertaining.
- 4:56I think it's visually stunning. I think it's got Twist after
- 5:01twist going through it, I think it has lots of plots that are
- 5:04weaved through six episodes, very skillfully.
- 5:08I think it introduces a ton of brilliant new characters, like
- 5:12swarm, and as you and Dan and Kevin McNally's character was
- 5:16just named eustatius Jericho. Yes, yes, exactly.
- 5:21The this snake, man, what's his name?
- 5:23The snake, man. Oh, oh, I've got that upside
- 5:27yet. Yeah, your answer grandma.
- 5:31Office or a bastard. I might have a bit of gas
- 5:36industry gospel. I'm going to wait until we get
- 5:38to his episode about that. Not that he's a bad person or
- 5:41anything like that. Has to Grant serpent, haven't
- 5:44had the Grandpa Grandma serpents but I did, I did hear some
- 5:48rumors about his involvement and who he may have replaced at some
- 5:54garlic, our weight. But so yeah, great original
- 5:57characters, I think it's got fantastic Cliffhangers Oh yeah,
- 6:02I'm not sure. The resolutions are ever pretty
- 6:04spectacular but the Cliffhanger but whenever are they like in
- 6:07Doctor Who have like, how many Cliffhangers can you honestly
- 6:10say that was good resolution? I think it introduces a
- 6:13companion in a brilliant way. I really likable companion.
- 6:18It takes a companion. That was underserved and gives a
- 6:21shit on those to do. Yeah.
- 6:23And it takes an already formed doctor and gives her a best
- 6:26material yet. So I don't understand.
- 6:28I don't get it, I do not get it. I think this Is really fun.
- 6:32We can only assume the Doctor Who fans are wrong.
- 6:36I want to know the time, I do that all the time.
- 6:39So can I ask him before we go into the Halloween apocalypse,
- 6:44sort of what your reaction was to this, as it was going out
- 6:48like your first, I loved it. I as I said before, series 11
- 6:54took a bit of getting used to series 12 hours in right from
- 6:57that first episode and I love the whole thing.
- 6:59So by the time series 12 finished, I was pitching for
- 7:03whatever the next season will be and obviously it took a A little
- 7:05bit longer because of covid, and I guess we'll talk a bit more
- 7:08about the impacts covid, may, or may not have had on this as we
- 7:12go along. But I was, I was in, from the,
- 7:15it was the most excited I've been at about Doctor Who I think
- 7:18in probably since early Moffat, like, season 6, which I know
- 7:25there's not favorite of yours. But it's one of those things
- 7:28where I was just like, right? This is I have to watch it live.
- 7:31I can't miss an episode, I need to, I need to know the
- 7:34resolution to all These plot points and where the story is
- 7:37going to go next a straight away.
- 7:40So I was absolutely hooked. Don't you worry?
- 7:43You me and Luc. Malloy are going to hash out the
- 7:46Impossible Astronaut day of the Moon with a six-pack of beers
- 7:50and three condoms. All right.
- 7:52Thank you, ma'am. I was gonna be a recording to
- 7:55not miss out on. Well, that should we skip into
- 8:00episode one? And see and see just what Chris
- 8:04chibnall has. Has to offer.
- 8:06I really want to talk a bit about covid as well.
- 8:09Impact that has had on this because I think it had primarily
- 8:14positive impact on flux in terms of its visuals and things like
- 8:20that. But what do you count as in?
- 8:22Okay, well let's Press Play in five, four, three, two, one way,
- 8:31In push my button any day. Okay.
- 8:35So what do you think about this? Do you like when we don't quite
- 8:39know what, where the story's been we sort of Jess?
- 8:41I'll fight you. I love this.
- 8:43This sort of cold open and I think I can see.
- 8:47It's exactly the sort of thing that pisses off, hardcore,
- 8:50Doctor, Who fans this, sort of fun, little skit, but I'm just
- 8:53like its peak Doctor Who you've got this tiny.
- 8:56It's just a tiny little adventure and it just says big
- 8:59bold. A Chair.
- 9:01Right from the start menu, really going for the fun.
- 9:05Jugular isn't it in a way that like in series of levity?
- 9:08Did it really very much to him. So it was sort of very, very
- 9:11worthy, a lot of that. Hey, we got boiling acid sees
- 9:15they had tied down by a graph bar.
- 9:17They've been shot at by drones, you know it's going on this is
- 9:22more Saturday night entertainment as well.
- 9:24I do think this is a series that would have sat better in the
- 9:27schedule on a Saturday night but again who watches live apart
- 9:30from people. Like me.
- 9:32How often do you have too many times when dogs who does this or
- 9:36drops us? And I know Mafia did it quite a
- 9:38bit. Yeah.
- 9:39But Moffitt and throw in like good ideas for a story and have
- 9:42them over and done with in like 30 seconds and you.
- 9:44But I start at 30 seconds is more interesting than what's
- 9:47going on on the screen, but it's 45 minutes frequently.
- 9:51Yeah. Oh, the church has in a minute.
- 9:56I've said to you before, I really feel as if someone was
- 9:58taking an eye over these scription own go, and we'll put
- 10:00some jokes in. All right, you make it A bit
- 10:03with the handcuffs in a minute, where she's dying release and
- 10:07she goes, she tries to do it all, Scottish as well, to be
- 10:10like about it. She's fantastic.
- 10:14And I also think this is trying to answer some of the criticisms
- 10:18that are perhaps Jody's. Doctor isn't as funny as people
- 10:20would like her. But I mean, I don't think that's
- 10:23a criticism that really Rings true.
- 10:24If I'm honest bottle, but I think she gets her funniest
- 10:28material in her third year. Absolutely.
- 10:31She's just Like all of them. She's so confident at this point
- 10:35and their third year, they're always just riding High roll and
- 10:39you're just ready to see that that fourth Big Year and we
- 10:42never get it. I think her finest performers is
- 10:48in her of an episode is in her third year and it's in the flux
- 10:52season. I living.
- 10:53It's this one. I mean, I do think she's great
- 10:55in this, we'll get there. All right, amazing.
- 10:58I think I saw somebody slacking off the special effects of this
- 11:03particular seed on Twitter recently.
- 11:05And I just think it looks glorious.
- 11:08It looks incredible. And this is one of the things I
- 11:10think they're covid force them to do.
- 11:13They had to do a lot of green, so they couldn't go out as much
- 11:15because they could go overseas. So, you know, as a result go,
- 11:19and I'm going to say something that my friend, Nathan
- 11:22bottomley, who really dislikes this era, but it's something
- 11:25very positive that he says about this season.
- 11:27It's only It's really weird again.
- 11:30Yeah. Weird and visually interesting
- 11:33and it hasn't for a bear. I was thinking about that when I
- 11:37was watching these first two episodes, the other day there is
- 11:39not there is not a series of Doctor Who like this and many
- 11:42ways, but visually, especially all the mattress when he talked
- 11:45about the mattress. Yeah, come on.
- 11:46Let's talk about this. That made the internet, you
- 11:50know, burst with excitement. Now it could be a perfectly
- 11:53innocent mattress but left there for things like that.
- 11:56But why would you go to the what?
- 11:58Why would you make it up? If it was just there to catch
- 12:00you, when you fall in, they've been doing naughty things on
- 12:03them. Often.
- 12:03They're just having it off. Yeah, sweet stories.
- 12:06We just don't see that stuff and it's just some heavy scissoring
- 12:10in between Adventure. I need to sleep tonight.
- 12:24Okay. So what do you think about the
- 12:27structure of this because The season changed and initially it
- 12:31was a longer run with or guest writers and I think a lot of
- 12:36what's in here was going to be dumb as individual stories.
- 12:40I would imagine sort of Joseph Williams and stuff would have
- 12:43been an individual episodes. Yeah.
- 12:45I mean, from my understanding, what Chris chibnall said, was
- 12:48they made Eight Episodes for the price of 10.
- 12:51So it's these 6. And then the Easter special or
- 12:57the slots that was given to be used.
- 12:58Special. And then the Christmas special.
- 13:00And I guess that kind of brings true either.
- 13:03I'm always a little hesitant when people talk about covid,
- 13:08affecting doctor, whose production because from, I think
- 13:12it was August of the pandemic was in 2019 or 2020.
- 13:16I can't remember. Whichever whichever the first
- 13:18year of the pandemic was always 20/20.
- 13:20Wasn't it television and film were given special dispensation
- 13:23to continue shooting because everybody was trapped in their
- 13:25houses and watching everything. So While it's true to say that
- 13:31covid has an impact on people's budget, not in budgets what it
- 13:36has on the production methods, it doesn't particularly add any
- 13:38more time to how you're shooting something and most companies
- 13:43give you a covid budget separately from your production
- 13:46budget. So I think it was more about
- 13:49them figuring out the safe way to do things, but I don't
- 13:52necessarily believe that they couldn't have made Doctor Who
- 13:56like drawing that. Time the way it was previously
- 14:00was, I think they just saw it as a chance to do something
- 14:03completely different. What's so interesting about flax
- 14:07is he didn't just say right, well, fine, then we're going to
- 14:10do six individual episodes, like we know is like, no other lean
- 14:15into my strength. So what's his big here before
- 14:19this Broadchurch with this sort of long-running story with all
- 14:23these different chapters? And even like the end of this
- 14:25episode, which boy will we get there on?
- 14:27Talk about that. He does the same thing.
- 14:30He does at the end of most broad shows episodes, which is catches
- 14:32you up with every single character and where they are in
- 14:35the narrative, it's absolutely him playing in that same sort of
- 14:38ballpark, I missing anything like this before.
- 14:42No. And you know what the big
- 14:44disappointment for me, when Chris chibnall took over I
- 14:48thought okay, that's what they're going to do.
- 14:50There is good Doctor Who's going to be a ten-part cereal all
- 14:54interlinked? And I think the initial
- 14:56disappointment I have this series 11.
- 14:58It was a lot of, oh, this is just sort of, more of the same
- 15:03and I wanted a big reinvention and he doesn't do it, then he
- 15:06does it now and I think it works spectacularly and I would love
- 15:10Doctor Who to stay in this format.
- 15:11I don't think it will, but what we know about Rusty Davis is
- 15:14era. I just I think this is a one-off
- 15:17but a bloody. Yeah.
- 15:19Yeah, but I love that. They've thrown us at we you know
- 15:22in this what we're five minutes in something like that and we've
- 15:25had this mini adventure with the doctor and As we've had this guy
- 15:30in a tunnel with Liverpool in the past and then we meet Danone
- 15:34is Diana's in it down. And Diane.
- 15:36Yeah. Essentially, apart from a very
- 15:38few characters, like the grand, Serpent and Jericho.
- 15:42Every plot is introduced here. Yeah.
- 15:44You single one and I think, you know, when people first watch
- 15:47this, I watched it. I was like, they are going, what
- 15:50the hell is going on or what who's this, who's that?
- 15:52Well, it and I was getting sort of more most like in and then
- 15:54towards the end of the episode I was going.
- 15:56There's too much going on. I don't think he knows what
- 15:58Going on. And then when he hit will
- 16:00actually Fagor with every character, like this is where
- 16:02they all are in this narrative. I know exactly where they are
- 16:06and where they're going, I'll had goosebumps like narrative
- 16:10Goosebumps of like, okay, this is really exciting, he knows
- 16:13what he's doing. Let's go.
- 16:15All right, you know, perhaps solutely and I think he's very
- 16:18clever at wrong forcing people throughout and I'll come that
- 16:21there's a few of them as you go along, but I the introduction of
- 16:25damn, I know with just sort of missed it, but It's such a
- 16:29lovely day. It's just this guy that just
- 16:31really loves this city and you just know instantly you're going
- 16:34to love him that he's great and that you can trust him.
- 16:37And I think, you know, a lot of the time people say stuff about
- 16:41chip knows characterization that he can't do.
- 16:43Those sort of things that Dusty Davis is very good at, but you
- 16:46get it all in Dan's first scene. He's Charming, isn't it?
- 16:50It's as don't Bishop soldier. I've had people say that he's
- 16:53not given much of a performance. He's just being John Bishop who
- 16:56cares, George? Bush's fucking child.
- 16:58Humming, you know, I'll Tom Baker isn't like, again, this is
- 17:10old-school. Gallifrey, these are to
- 17:11Gallifrey ins like hard the division.
- 17:14It's like, it's all of a sudden. It's this big epic timelord
- 17:19tail. He hasn't forgotten what he's
- 17:20done in the previous season with the time.
- 17:22This child, we're just getting more and more of his version of
- 17:26Doctor Who in his version of Gallifrey.
- 17:28Now, Now, I wouldn't swap. Hi Pac, Camp swarm for anything
- 17:33at the bit where he walks in the room and goes Dan, Lewis.
- 17:36It is quite my favorite entrances ever, but this
- 17:40fellow's playing the earlier swore.
- 17:43Before he kicked his it's not the same actor, is it?
- 17:45I don't think it is. No, he's really scary.
- 17:48He's doing this sort of weird, raspy breathing.
- 17:52Yeah, he's really creepy. I love this idea of this this
- 17:58creature but so powerful that they've had to imprison them for
- 18:01centuries and centuries and just by being there and absorbing the
- 18:04environment around him. He's figured out a way over
- 18:07thousands of years or hundreds of thousands of years to escape.
- 18:11I also I really like the fact you know this is called the
- 18:13Halloween apocalypse and I figured okay so it's just going
- 18:15to be like a old-school Horror Story and he didn't do that.
- 18:19He obviously used as a springboard to tell this
- 18:21enormous narrative but within In it, he had individual scenes
- 18:26that were really creepy. This is one, the one with diving
- 18:30forces, building actual out the door, like they're some serious
- 18:34scares in this one. Absolutely.
- 18:38The camera work as well. Just like all the weird angles
- 18:41they go in on Old swarm here. It's just gorgeous.
- 18:45Amy, Magnus Stone. Was quite a following, wasn't
- 18:48it? Yes.
- 18:48Yeah, and long, may he continue? Is he coming back?
- 18:53I don't know. I feel like is he coming back?
- 18:57I don't know. But I hope he comes back.
- 18:58Yeah, so do I die. I'm going back to Dan for a
- 19:03second, right? Because I like I do, you know,
- 19:05we've got six hours to fill it with I do want to address some
- 19:11of the complaints people have about this, as well.
- 19:13So it's not, you know, we've got to celebrate us because we love
- 19:15it. Oh, my word.
- 19:17That is that is giving me. Hell, Raiser Vibes, know, it's
- 19:20absolutely hideous. You couldn't have done this.
- 19:22You couldn't have told this story in 2005.
- 19:25I don't think people would have accepted this on sort of
- 19:29mainstream television season that it, this is how it started.
- 19:33This is a confident series that's been running for the best
- 19:36part, 15 years, I think. And like you know, the that's
- 19:41that's most shocking thing. Chris chibnall could do with
- 19:43some of the completely broke the format.
- 19:45Yeah. And the like swarming is a they
- 19:49are the best villains to be that.
- 19:51The new series is created. I think that's entirely sure
- 19:56what they're all about. And I don't know, I know what
- 19:58they want to do and I know they're fabulous and they look
- 20:02amazing and you know, this their Sleek as hell.
- 20:08But I've no, I'm not quite sure what their motive action it,
- 20:12that's all. Yeah, but they're amazing that
- 20:15whenever they're on the screen, I cannot take my eyes off him.
- 20:18Yeah. I mean, I think they're just
- 20:19that typical sort of Doctor Who villain in the way that they're
- 20:23just evil bastard to on the destroyer ship because it, they
- 20:26enjoy it to be fair. I'm not sure we ever really got
- 20:29beyond the motivation of like Saudi door people like that, I
- 20:32live, I know, I'm not sure we've ever really got behind the
- 20:35motivation of the master to be honest like I know he thinks
- 20:38he's playing some game with the doctor, or she's playing some
- 20:41game with the doctor, but even so, I just like their oversight.
- 20:44After 55 years old, this stuff, now, I wasn't quite sure about
- 20:51this, right? So, the Tardis is effectively
- 20:54bleeding, which is a great Visual and I love the gag of the
- 20:57door, Freedom, the pit where they come up through the floor,
- 21:01and he goes, what's a funny old place to come into this room, is
- 21:06it because of the flux? I think so.
- 21:08Yeah, I think it's a combination of the flux and whatever swarm,
- 21:12whatever swarm is doing to try and get to the doctor and they
- 21:16do address the fact that it's been damaged because in either
- 21:20the Daleks she just basic doesn't systems research here in
- 21:24my office are stunning effects sequence.
- 21:26Yeah, one of the best Other people say this is a bit much
- 21:30right that Dan, it works in a food bank, he doesn't take it
- 21:34easy through down for himself, you know, also spend his life,
- 21:37be doing nice things for people. I'll say to those people with
- 21:40that criticism we could do of a more a few more people like this
- 21:43in life. You know we could but what I
- 21:45would say is house down going to pay for the drinks at the pub on
- 21:48his date with Dianne. Is she paying for them all I
- 21:51guess she is yeah. Agent Bishop yes, it's lovely.
- 21:59He just he just feels like a warm dad like figure.
- 22:03And I think you know it's the lazy criticism is always just
- 22:07Bradley Walsh Mark to but he's not he's lying, right?
- 22:11Yeah. Because I don't think John
- 22:14Bishop probably has the chops to sell some of those really
- 22:18intense scenes of Bradley washed it.
- 22:20Yeah but then I don't think Bradley Walsh is as sort of
- 22:25effortlessly likable as John Bishop is absolutely.
- 22:32He said he's just another lovely little cat.
- 22:35I do. Remember when they announced him
- 22:36as Dan the plasterer with that little sting at the end of the
- 22:40New Year, special and it just being the most underwhelming,
- 22:52he's just getting out. You gotta trade, use it and it's
- 23:05like no happy. Just although this site hear
- 23:07someone say a very nasty thing about what was it, he started
- 23:12off, you know, penniless and he couldn't feed himself and he
- 23:15ended up the series homeless. What are Rob?
- 23:20I mean, it's very kicking keeping with the current
- 23:23government. So I don't know, whether it's a
- 23:25political commentary right there, Frosty Davison Charles,
- 23:28you've been making that point, you know, but you shrink In
- 23:32house? Yeah, I love that.
- 23:34So that's probably where they go.
- 23:36Sorry. But also the shrinking house to
- 23:40me is like a little wrong for the audience of a car.
- 23:42It could be the master because they bought back the tissue
- 23:45compression and lemonade of the Season before.
- 23:47So even thought of that, you know?
- 23:50Yeah. So I like the setting up that
- 23:52gag where she gives him the else in his hand and goes, there's
- 23:55your house, you know, that cover the Easter.
- 23:59I didn't quite buy the helmet. I think the helmet looks That
- 24:02way it. But I'm glad he takes herself
- 24:04because I think this is one of the most fantastic characters,
- 24:09this right then in a run full of fantastic characters.
- 24:13He's always and, and these two together, as well, it is gold,
- 24:17these two together. But they've been the subject of
- 24:19some very dirty fan art together.
- 24:21Then no, I have fun. Yeah, I'll hang on.
- 24:25I think John Bishop, see some of that.
- 24:27I think he did. Yeah, I think it was like I'm on
- 24:29a TV show. But did I want?
- 24:41It's such a cute face that. Yeah.
- 24:44When he touches his nose and he goes, all you've done really
- 24:46well there but it is, it's a cute face.
- 24:49We all love dogs, it's playing with that Russell.
- 24:52T Davies thing of You know, making animals sort of but the
- 24:57least species but also like the guy that plays it plays it
- 25:01completely straight. Like I know there's this comedy
- 25:03to it and sells our performance from behind this mask, which,
- 25:07you know, and he is a, he is a threat, I love the blue and the
- 25:11doctor comes in the spaceship layer and he goes, oh God, what
- 25:14do you want? Because they're old mates there
- 25:19as well. But one point the doctor and
- 25:22yeah boy stur used to travel together Yeah.
- 25:24He's or I think they say that he was her first companion as the
- 25:32the war. She called The Roof Doctor.
- 25:34Yeah, the doctor, it's Cannon shattering stuff.
- 25:40Just throw it in very casually. I love just the doctor and Yaz
- 25:47together. Now, I don't get her.
- 25:49I think her yeas and Dan, that's the best combination that they,
- 25:53yeah. If I had But it's really nice
- 25:56just to say and it kind of shows you what you said in those
- 26:00earlier Seasons. There's just too many onions
- 26:02there and she really gets a chance to shine.
- 26:04Now, there are fantastic Duo and all of a sudden I'm just like, I
- 26:09want I need another season of these two together.
- 26:11Hmm. And you know, by the time you
- 26:13get to the power of the doctor, you really believe you're
- 26:16breaking up like a strong friendship /, more being either
- 26:22the Daleks where It sounds just stops and she confesses that she
- 26:27has for you. I'll come by later.
- 26:29I cannot believe they're going here, I'm glad you're pleased
- 26:33that they are. Yeah but not lovely scene on the
- 26:36beach you get in Legend of the sea levels.
- 26:39Yeah. Which is just, and it's, you
- 26:41know, in a way it's not doing anything that the doctor hasn't
- 26:45said before. But obviously people yeah, heads
- 26:47up about it because they're the sort of people who think the
- 26:50doctor should be, either a sexual or is straight which But
- 26:54I can tell you right from the Hartnell Doctor.
- 26:56I don't think that any of these doctors give off big straight
- 26:59alpha male energy. I'll tell you.
- 27:01All right. Also, William, hartnell's doctor
- 27:04and Nero the semi-naked. So that's together.
- 27:08And I will, I go out to before, that camera started rolling.
- 27:13It's the only time we've seen him in a sauna and it's with a
- 27:15map. Very true, very true.
- 27:17He never did, never flirt, actually does flirt a bit with
- 27:20Barbara, doesn't it? Really hard.
- 27:23I'll be turning in his grave right now.
- 27:26There's always been rumors about William Hartnell, and Jack pit,
- 27:31who was an extra who William Hartnell used to live with when
- 27:34he was state was in London. You told me this before I've
- 27:38managed to blocks it from my mind cuz I don't want to think
- 27:41not having anal sex. You know he did not look at that
- 27:46house. Did you see it?
- 27:52Don't always think in the first two years channels.
- 27:55Comedy here always are, may I remind you of the Wi-Fi family
- 28:00which I do think sometimes it worked a tree this year.
- 28:05It's like a gag a minute. I know.
- 28:07He's just I feel like he's amped everything up to 11 because he's
- 28:11largely writing it himself and I think this is the nearest.
- 28:14You get to his version of Doctor Who because the other ones are
- 28:18obviously his vision. But he's had this writers room
- 28:21where he's Ang in loads of different writers with different
- 28:24ideas. And we know that some of those
- 28:25writers never delivered scripts but they use Concepts like the
- 28:28pting. And then here you go, here's the
- 28:31lead writer and probably just for scheduling and to get
- 28:34himself a breather, he get somebody to write one other
- 28:37episode. Did you hear that interview of
- 28:39Joy Wilkinson? It was out recently.
- 28:43I don't know what I did, but I know Joy quite well.
- 28:45So let and she's talking about how they had to sew all the
- 28:49episodes of sort of laid out in the writers room.
- 28:51He'll letter. A pitch.
- 28:53Yeah yeah. So those are there to choose
- 28:55like two or three. I don't know if I pass it.
- 28:58I don't think it's the best approach of like okay.
- 29:02Well you could be writing any one of these you know sometimes
- 29:06I do think the episode should be tailored to the ricer you know
- 29:09all the right strings. Well this is tailored to
- 29:12chibnall strengths but this is yeah is where where his bestest
- 29:19I'll say going to say you guys this run, he's got flux, and
- 29:22then he has the two to the three specials afterwards and you
- 29:25really get to see, okay? He he's really thought about
- 29:28what he's doing where he wants to go.
- 29:29Because this is Chris, chibnall is Doctor Who for like nine
- 29:33episodes. And he knows like, you know
- 29:35what, this is where it's ending as well.
- 29:37Yeah, I'm just going to throw everything in.
- 29:40Yeah, boy does it. Especially when he got to that
- 29:43point in Peril the doctor, where he had the Mast up, stars in to
- 29:46rescue in, and Cybermen, and Daleks going.
- 29:48What the fuck is going on here? Because I don't do comedy.
- 30:06In the Dalek quite possibly, that was Jamie McIntyre Stone
- 30:11again. Wasn't it.
- 30:12It was yeah, yeah. Now this loop re-think with them
- 30:16or each having a human. Why isn't the planet overrun
- 30:20with Lou Paris? At this point, what he said?
- 30:23There is a line. So I was paying attention.
- 30:25He said that he's slipped for a worm or something.
- 30:28There was a better technobabble and it's how we got here first,
- 30:32right? Okay.
- 30:32And then they alter basically ended Everyone else turned up
- 30:35late. No after this and what happens,
- 30:39like, you know, because people are born all the time that are
- 30:43the Paris born at the same rate as humans.
- 30:45How does it work? Like I'm really nitpicking to
- 30:48pull the pull this apart because much like a lot of Doctor Who
- 30:52doesn't stand up to scrutiny that this particular idea, but
- 30:56it's something that bugged me on original transmission and I
- 30:59guarantee you nobody else, nobody know, casual viewer
- 31:03sapna, Going. It's the Paris thing, doesn't
- 31:06quite work so we're just going to exactly.
- 31:11Also, can I just ask, is this the first time we've ever seen
- 31:18someone having a dump on dogs are?
- 31:20Oh, I think it might be. What is he saying down on the
- 31:25low as well? Yeah, it might be able to sit
- 31:27down. Moses is down to way.
- 31:29Oh I much prefer a sit-down way. Really?
- 31:32Yeah. If I'm at home, I see.
- 31:34Down way because I don't want to get it on the seat.
- 31:36If I'm out, I'll use your own or but I must be close it down.
- 31:39Real Dylan recent times filtered on hamster about sit down.
- 31:47We are I'll become sold on the internet.
- 31:50Next, this is pure Mafia - isn't it?
- 31:53This character just popping off who's going to be relevant later
- 31:55ago? No doctor.
- 31:56Oh, you don't have. All right, I'm really sorry.
- 32:00It is. But what a fantastic?
- 32:02We haven't had anything like this for two seasons.
- 32:04And so, I think it's important to remember that a casual viewer
- 32:07who's shooting in, won't remember that they were remember
- 32:10that time the timey-wimey version of Doctor Who that was
- 32:13on at this point five or six years ago and with really
- 32:17trusted as well because, obviously, she gets that amazing
- 32:20scene in a minute where the Angel takes her back in time and
- 32:24then we don't see her again 2 episode 4, and we're trusted and
- 32:28I love it. When the audience is trusted in
- 32:31episode 4, to remember from episode 1, It's only a couple of
- 32:35weeks ago if you're watching this stuff, you know?
- 32:37Oh yeah, that's her. That's what.
- 32:38This is where she win. Yeah.
- 32:41I also I said to under one of our previous commentaries about
- 32:46using Sheffield and here Liverpool just seeing just
- 32:50seeing the Tardis in those environments.
- 32:51It's like and then you've got, you know, we're in Alaska
- 32:55earlier very briefly and it's like it just gives a sort of
- 32:59scope to the series that you don't get in.
- 33:03I would say as the show, Is finding its feet in sort of
- 33:05series 1. 2 3. It's very much, London space.
- 33:09Victorian era card, if it's not even planets is space-age.
- 33:13That's why didn't this as well? You get, you know, that Silas
- 33:19Temple about repulse. Oh my God, you know, in Once
- 33:22Upon time, we go into that, Wiggly wobbly place, where the
- 33:25doctors floating about all those planets that are hostages
- 33:29sucking people to. Sorry there is Huge Scopes is
- 33:36all. I think there's a story because
- 33:38this is one story really isn't it with this amount of sort of
- 33:43geographical Scopes here. Yeah.
- 33:45Yeah, not as well. It does.
- 33:47This is why a contemporary story and we get a fabulous in the
- 33:52future story and we get to brilliant in the past stories so
- 33:58it covers the old ground of Doctor Who as well.
- 34:01Yeah, it but it's what it does very cleverly Is chop them all
- 34:05up for the most part. So you get all the things Doctor
- 34:08Who always does but not necessarily in the normal order.
- 34:12Yeah, it's fantastic. And I think this Tardis set
- 34:16looks brilliant by this point as well.
- 34:18I don't think it looked fantastic in the first season,
- 34:21but it's her second and third. I think it was great and I both
- 34:25they've learned how to shoot it. Yeah.
- 34:27And light it really well but also I think they're just really
- 34:31comfortable in there. There's a there's a sequence at
- 34:33the end where She's banging it with the hammer and, you know,
- 34:36and it's just, like, tenant and Smith and all the others doing
- 34:40exactly the same thing, you know.
- 34:41Yeah. This bit with the angel and I
- 34:45think I think this season gives us some of the finest weeping
- 34:49angels. Now this leaks did miss this.
- 34:53It was like a Set photo of this angel in the street.
- 34:56So we knew and then Steven Moffat was like yeah they're
- 34:59back and Chip will immediately make made him.
- 35:02Take it down from his Instagram. I'm still not entirely sure why
- 35:08I was so reluctant. Yeah, I think there's there's
- 35:12the biggest misfire of the era for me is sort of, I don't want
- 35:17to use the term marketing because it won an award for its
- 35:19marketing. But I think its relationship
- 35:23with its audience beyond the story, like it's just and it's
- 35:28also, we've been used to having Chris chibnall not Christian, or
- 35:30sorry with Steven Moffat, and Rusty Davis who was showman who?
- 35:35A big names and faces of a brand and Christian over on the whole
- 35:39just isn't interested in doing that.
- 35:40Which is fine. It's not necessarily part of
- 35:42your job as a television show runner, but I just think that
- 35:48the lead comes from him in that respect and so there isn't the
- 35:52Grandeur and the relationship and the big events that I think
- 35:57bringing your audience and get people fight about the series.
- 36:00And it's something that here you, you said I'll see the and
- 36:04Steven Moffat are they think Steven Moffat hero sort of fluid
- 36:07with a lot of that stuff? I thought they sort of fell away
- 36:10a bit as time went on Rusty. Davies just a master of that,
- 36:14isn't it? I'm going to give you two
- 36:16spin-offs. I'm going to put, you know,
- 36:18Dalek fruits in your Supermarket, totally Doctor, Who
- 36:23Doctor Who confidential, you know, blue Peter.
- 36:28He just knew how to play it and he knew how to put it everywhere
- 36:31so everyone was aware of it. And I like you know, when he was
- 36:36promoting nollie recently and he was doing the rounds of, you
- 36:38know, it was on Graham Norton and things like that because
- 36:41he's a big enough name that you can do that man.
- 36:43But I honestly think that we were used to seeing him as fans,
- 36:47but I honestly think in this next era of RTD here, uses
- 36:51biggest are almost as the people in it and you will see him do
- 36:54the chat, show circuits and things like that, to promote the
- 36:56hell out the show. I'll certainly hope.
- 36:58So, he's fabulous to it. Also, you know, athletes
- 37:01marvelous, isn't it, you know, Could listen to him talk for
- 37:05hours, and hours and hours. He's amazing.
- 37:07Oh, word. Can I just say instant even do
- 37:10is just turn up. That's right.
- 37:12Now, things are here in our van, in my head.
- 37:17What have you ever seen Great Game of Thrones?
- 37:20Yes, I have. Yes, yes.
- 37:21It's bits out in that, you know, I thought they got done, they
- 37:24get cut off. I'll do, they often are the
- 37:28unsullied and they cut their dicks.
- 37:29I think they know, isn't he? The one?
- 37:31Where is it gets burst? I can't remember, I can't
- 37:34remember they all Bill died. Horribly you see, even the
- 37:37buffets got enough. He's a, he's a very handsome
- 37:40chap. He's also a variant.
- 37:42Very talented musician. Well, I think he's also very
- 37:46naturalistic actor as well. He's great.
- 37:49He is asked to deliver a shit ton of exposition in this scene.
- 37:53This is my biggest complaint with the era.
- 37:56Is Christian new, Exposition which are through is
- 37:59occasionally a little bit awkward and he has to get tired
- 38:03next week where he is, what he's doing?
- 38:06What's coming is? So he delivers it.
- 38:11So Charming me that I'm sold. Yeah.
- 38:15Unless he's, yeah, he's an actor that I could see in a different
- 38:22time, getting a spin-off because he could lead a show.
- 38:26Why easily? Now we've just seen the
- 38:28beautiful effect of the flux destroying these planets, but
- 38:31this was called Outpost Rose. So, Q Twitter going, oh my God,
- 38:35Rose is coming back. Rose is coming back.
- 38:37Did it did you think that at any point for a moment?
- 38:39No me neither, no, but I did think this scene was really
- 38:45fucking scary. If I woke up in the middle of
- 38:48the night and that fellow was standing there in the doorway
- 38:51like that. And the way she plays is well
- 38:54where she starts screaming. This is like a scene from a
- 38:57horror movie. Yeah it is.
- 38:59Absolutely. And again you couldn't have got
- 39:01away with this 15 years ago because the show so confident,
- 39:04now it knows the extremes of scares.
- 39:07It can go to that are still safe for kids to watch for in series
- 39:11of living. When people were saying, ouch, a
- 39:13is playing it safe. This is the safest Doctor Who's
- 39:16been forever. Almost always.
- 39:18Have you read that comment, right?
- 39:21Yeah, six episodes interlinked with.
- 39:24I'm going to screw continent lie.
- 39:26And the way these people we saw it with the people from the
- 39:29division earlier just burn a wave like they're literally been
- 39:31burnt out of existence but it's a Sci-Fi burn so it's scary and
- 39:35you get that, it's an end, but without it, you know, being a
- 39:39human in Flames. Yeah, it's a really, really
- 39:43interesting effect as well, isn't it?
- 39:45Yeah. I don't think there's a line.
- 39:48This this is a weakness. There's not a line that explains
- 39:51why she's here. I mean, I think it was just to
- 39:54keep them heat them as far apart as possible, so he's imprisoned,
- 39:57she's basically been hitting it as a human in Alaska and the far
- 40:02reaches of Alaska. Like I hope that you need the
- 40:04line. I think you can pick it up.
- 40:06Well, Chris chibnall provided the line for me in the special
- 40:09features on the flux Blu-ray set.
- 40:11All right out and got yet. He said that she was she was
- 40:15basically in like a Some protection.
- 40:17You know, right? That's why they gave of the guys
- 40:19and took away our memory and all this.
- 40:21So yeah, yeah, effectively what you just said there but I don't
- 40:26know. Like because you had those two
- 40:27scenes and I'm like, at the end of this camel, the hell was that
- 40:31all about? Thank you.
- 40:33Yeah. Oh, anything now, on this carbon
- 40:37is to ship with the doctor and yeas old, Absolute Comedy, girl
- 40:41VC, you know, it's really basic as she gets to say that line
- 40:45from Christopher Eccleston. And is she nice to meet you?
- 40:47Dan, run for your life? Yeah.
- 40:50Now, do you think this is the shows more confident now, but I
- 40:56want to know, could you show this to someone that doesn't
- 40:58really know what Doctor Who is without some explanations.
- 41:08I probably wouldn't choose this. No, I think this is a bit dense.
- 41:12Say you are going to introduce you to this fabulous show washes
- 41:15F-series, the flux. But I think there are
- 41:18explanations in there if you're patient.
- 41:20Yeah yeah no I think you're right.
- 41:23But I think yeah it's difficult. I think if you'd see if you seen
- 41:28the season before then you're absolutely equipped with enough.
- 41:33The age of the sort of Canon or the shattered cabin, to kind of
- 41:37go forward with it. Because boy, is there a lot of
- 41:40exposition in that the time these children and Beyond such
- 41:45an argument with Frasier, Gregory about that evil likes
- 41:47to, she was wonderful. I'm kind it's a bloody
- 41:50PowerPoint presentation for 20 minutes while the doctors banged
- 41:53up. I mean, I'm sure I've said this
- 41:55to you before, but the fact that they get got the word
- 41:57sheboygan's on prime-time British television in the year
- 42:01of Our Lord 2020. Or whatever it was.
- 42:03I am I am there. I don't care how its position
- 42:07is. I'm just like it's a win for
- 42:09fandom. I just want the fact that he
- 42:11managed to bring in The Morbid stopped watching.
- 42:16I was watching that episode when it went out live with a mate of
- 42:19mine, who's very staunch, Classic series, doesn't
- 42:22particularly loved a lot of the new series and it's surprisingly
- 42:26even he was like he's done the fucking morbius doctors, this is
- 42:29amazing, we went to the pub afterwards and he would just in
- 42:31B, he was like who I would have thought you would see that on
- 42:34television ever, even finishing the time, this children,
- 42:38knowing, and saying to my partner at the time, that's
- 42:42really good. I've really enjoyed that and
- 42:45then went lion and I was like, well I still love it
- 42:51unapologetically. So I like it a lot.
- 42:53I think it's good doctor who I'm not sure.
- 42:58It's good television. Yeah, you do.
- 43:01You know what? It's the nearest.
- 43:02The In series gets to be feeling like extended Universal to stuff
- 43:08which I guess is what it appeals to be.
- 43:10Like it's almost big finish on TV in a way, I mean, yeah, we're
- 43:13going back to Gallifrey and we've got Cybermen and the
- 43:15Milestone terribly exotic things going on.
- 43:18We could have a dark of infinity again, you know, that's kinda
- 43:21Lounge of Rassilon that around. It looks like an advertising
- 43:25agency from the 80s. He sort of globe lights.
- 43:28They've got enough but the thing is, we're still do.
- 43:33In retirement children here and we're still doing Gallifreyan
- 43:36myth us but it's just done. Slightly more subtly in a
- 43:39different way, so it's not hitting you over the head with
- 43:42it. I mean we get Tech taehoon later
- 43:44in the series so it's not like it just drops it.
- 43:48Now interestingly enough, that's the one point where I thought
- 43:51the exposition was really good and that's because Barbara Flynn
- 43:53is fucking hit. Give her a big finish box set.
- 43:57Give me the adventures of saito's to out all that chippers
- 44:01sfx position. Like a box set with the tiny
- 44:04little, the young Asian Doctor Who's in the Timeless children.
- 44:07For for think he took a drag on a fag at the end as well, you
- 44:10know, like, oh this is easy. I'll do cracker, you know, you
- 44:14know, but she said initially about, she's after calvinist up
- 44:21because he is a man, he was a member of the division and
- 44:25that's just left there and then we don't pick that up until we
- 44:30go to the division later. Isn't it is in And the Weeping
- 44:33Angel episode. Yeah, yeah, example to trust.
- 44:36I really love that. I hey, shows that explain if,
- 44:40you know, pip and James scripts that explain everything as they
- 44:42get along, you know, sometimes twice, you know, they've got the
- 44:46correct mcgahren was, not to did not switch on his translator,
- 44:49you know, I think. Also at this point Doctor Who
- 44:56may not have the world's biggest audience, but it has a solid
- 44:58audience and it is 45 million people.
- 45:00Tune in every week and I know people Ergo.
- 45:03It isn't it, isn't it isn't success, it's a success but I'm
- 45:07assuming it's the same four or five million people and like it
- 45:10might deprive million one week because everybody's out and they
- 45:12watch on iPlayer later but that goes.
- 45:15Okay, we've got 5 million people who really want to watch this
- 45:18show and they've been with it now for probably 15 years.
- 45:21However, long the show's been back, so we can trust people
- 45:24with pots because they understand the language of
- 45:27Television, which has changed a lot just from when Doctor Who
- 45:30came back and I didn't they Austin, No Doctor Who and they
- 45:34know it's all going to get wrapped up by the end of the
- 45:36season, but they are picking up the bits.
- 45:38Like as bigger along, even sort of how fickle and audience can
- 45:42be. The fact, the five million
- 45:44people offer, 13 series, still world's this because I lo shows
- 45:49in there, you know, 10th year that were diving down.
- 45:52So we know 1 million viewers, you know, Leslie, even and solid
- 45:58numbers. And also, it's not just about
- 46:01the overnight. Somebody gets in the first month
- 46:03This is something that the BBC are going to sell them.
- 46:05People, you continue to watch again and again and again the
- 46:09years and years on end. It's about.
- 46:11It's an investment of like this is a, this is a product that's
- 46:14last for like no. Well, that was expecting to ever
- 46:16see the underwater Venice again after it was broadcast.
- 46:19It was a made as a bit of disclosure way that we exactly.
- 46:23And I've fooled Dylan. It's, you know, people talk
- 46:27about the intake of kids and how kids don't watch Doctor anymore.
- 46:32It's time Watch television kids watch YouTube Doctor, Who's one
- 46:35of the few shows that kids still chewed into and that it's no
- 46:38wonder that parties in sent. Yeah, but RTD said recently that
- 46:42they can't get the money for a kid spin-off, because kids are
- 46:44watching TV. So but the fact that they still
- 46:47want to watch this and I know that our TV somewhere is going,
- 46:50right, how do we get kids into this?
- 46:52And I bet you there's a spin off the ends up being like that
- 46:55doomsday, spin-off aimed at kids, five minutes on YouTube.
- 46:59Let's see if we get the kids involved and getting watching
- 47:01the main show. A Savvy enough, isn't it?
- 47:04Yeah. Just that, you know, the kitty
- 47:06Doctor Who Tick Tock Channel. Yeah.
- 47:12But like what you said about re-watch ability there, I'm not
- 47:15lying. When I say, I've watched this
- 47:17for about four or five times now.
- 47:18Yeah, me too. I think this is such an Eclectic
- 47:21sort of portmanteau of ingredients.
- 47:24There's so much in this, there's so much comedy and horror and
- 47:28drama and collecting moments and Brill characters that are I
- 47:32never get bored. There's just too much happening.
- 47:35And I tell you what, I think at some point in the next three or
- 47:39four years, all of Doctor Who's going to end up on Disney plus.
- 47:42And I think, when people, once they've got people in, I think
- 47:45with the first few seasons of gas where you'll be able to get
- 47:47everything, and I think this is one that people will like
- 47:51audiences worldwide. You haven't seen it will Swatch
- 47:53and fall in love with the gun. Oh doctor who hasn't just been
- 47:56brilliant from you know 20 24. It's been brilliant forever and
- 48:01it was doing fantastic. Modern amazing sort of
- 48:04Television, like, during the pandemic.
- 48:07It's exactly what happened with Deep Space Nine over in the Star
- 48:12Trek World in that it was sort of like the Forgotten middle
- 48:15child and then it hit Netflix where people could watch it and
- 48:18it was all based. Yeah.
- 48:20And everyone's just loved it. And they were like this is like
- 48:22this was Modern television, 20 years ago.
- 48:25You know, we've got to talk about the sontarans coming in
- 48:28here. There's some tires.
- 48:31Are the new series? That's Sometimes ever, I'm
- 48:33saying, they look really isn't and they are that perfect mix of
- 48:38Menace and humor and we all knew they were coming up in the next
- 48:43episode but nobody expected to see them here.
- 48:46So it was just like all of a sudden were like, okay
- 48:48everything's a little bit more into link than we thought it was
- 48:51going to be, you know, they look, Dylan it, look,
- 48:54disgusting, disgusting. I'm about Nathan go oh no, chip
- 49:01was doing the sontarans is The make them really serious and and
- 49:05then he watched her and he went fuck me.
- 49:08They were funny. They are really the line in the
- 49:11water sometimes where he goes but I wanted to ride a horse
- 49:15it's so funny. I love that bit.
- 49:19I think the sort of a lot of misapprehensions about the
- 49:21sontarans because if you watch it's a fucking Warrior, they're
- 49:26funny the only time they're not funny as the two doctors and
- 49:29their shit and that's no hang on wait.
- 49:32Among these take it objection to this.
- 49:34Did the funniest joke in the two dogs as they're so serious,
- 49:37you're right. But in that poor fellow's
- 49:39emasculated he's blown up, he's covered in acid his leg flies
- 49:43off. So I oh no, this Paul military
- 49:47leader. What x can possibly happen to
- 49:49him the retreat. Humanism poking that serious
- 49:53bubble of it. All, she's gonna do it because
- 49:57during our hand thing, yeah, she sort of moves around when she's
- 50:01talking. Oh I love the way she moves her
- 50:02hands and it's can Trevor its this episode or the next one.
- 50:05I think it's the next one. So I'm going to save it when she
- 50:07doesn't introduction and just kind of moves moves our hands
- 50:11behind the head to introduce in the next one, silence that.
- 50:13Anyway, so we got to have this thing where they open the doors
- 50:18and the new companion, stared out into space, and long, and
- 50:22long way. Last, it's such a simple thing
- 50:24as well, but the classics It never did and I think is it when
- 50:28do we first? Get it in the new series it's in
- 50:32the Runaway Bride, I think. Yeah.
- 50:33So on the rack NOS. Yeah.
- 50:36So even takes a couple of series for the new series to go.
- 50:38Okay, we can do this but visually now that's on the
- 50:41camera was going around the Tardis whilst they were standing
- 50:44in. It it felt very real.
- 50:46Oh yeah, it's gorgeous. At the flux here.
- 50:50Now I'm going to try and figure this out as we go along, right?
- 50:52Because the flux is, it's a bit like the nothing in The
- 50:56Neverending Story. So it goes along and consumes
- 50:59everything. Yeah.
- 51:00And it's basically going after the doctor, I think so.
- 51:05Yeah, I think it's I mean, I think it's going after
- 51:08everything, but it's somehow tied into swarmin Azzurri, I
- 51:12think Thanks Barbara. Finn says, I basically this
- 51:16universe is over. Yeah, the reason is over is
- 51:19because you've been fucking everywhere and spoiling
- 51:21everything. Well be, have a plan going on
- 51:23and you can, they're fucking out.
- 51:25So he sent out the flocks to destroy that Universe.
- 51:28Do you know what I was? Hoping would happen.
- 51:30At the end of Jodie, Whittaker, Sera is that whoever the new
- 51:33doctor was, obviously, it turned out to be tenant left this
- 51:37universe. This dying universe and went
- 51:40into that second universe, and you start again.
- 51:43That would be really great. Yeah, as you can you can really
- 51:47boost the entire Series without actually read and there could be
- 51:50versions of other people before you know.
- 51:53Yeah, Earth of course. Yeah, but this is slightly
- 51:56different to that because it's not the full reboot.
- 51:59It's an in Canon reboot, if you know what I mean, a bit like
- 52:02when the doctor goes into the Divergent Universe in the
- 52:06eighth, doctor audios when you were stressing doing, you know,
- 52:09new versions of old black-and-white stories, you
- 52:12know, with a big budget It tax returns.
- 52:14My audience had heart attacks. You know, I've numbers dipped a
- 52:17bit that way, I'll check it. Look guys, I work in film and
- 52:21television just hope that I never get my hands on dr.
- 52:23Do you think chibnall fuck things up for you?
- 52:27Oh boy. A car long for the day.
- 52:29You know, look at swarms makeup. I know it's beautiful.
- 52:35Such a cheater. Don't give off big Lawrence Fox
- 52:385's though. Doesn't it?
- 52:39It does appear. Yeah, yeah.
- 52:42Just as evil as As well. Exactly Justice entitled.
- 52:48And just all of the they've got their costume designer, right?
- 52:51I wore the sontarans and the amount of detail it gives you
- 52:54about all the guess I took me five days to do embroider that.
- 52:58So, you know, this feels like a finale.
- 53:05This is episode 1 as a finale. And Obviously got this point
- 53:10where the doctor tries to hit it, hit the flux with Vortex
- 53:14energy and in any other series, that would be had the story
- 53:17finished because it's the ultimate sort of
- 53:20get-out-of-jail-free card. And I just love that.
- 53:24It's sort of going, we all know that you guys think that this is
- 53:27what how you end a story but actually, not even the vortex
- 53:31energy can stop this. Yeah, I really like that because
- 53:35they've used they've color used the heart of the TARDIS a couple
- 53:37of times. Now, over there as the calotte
- 53:40II, I did like it the first time they used it back in the day
- 53:43Boomtown and oh yeah, I thought that was spectacular but the way
- 53:49the flux just sort of bats it aside and goes night, I'm still
- 53:52coming for you. Yeah, it's I don't know what,
- 53:56this take some confidence is what in the middle of this
- 53:58Massive Action sequence. We cut to all because I'm going
- 54:01to be late for Diane. We come on.
- 54:03On this Dark, Lonely Street. And this is really scary scene.
- 54:09Number one, two, three, four, four.
- 54:11Yeah. Let she can't stop her legs from
- 54:14taking her into that creepy ass house.
- 54:16But also I don't know how many dates you've ever been on that.
- 54:20Over-involved beating outside a dark abandoned house but mine is
- 54:25a grand total of zero right? He Parks you know tour Could
- 54:33that there without her silhouetted in the light of the
- 54:36door? It's fantastic.
- 54:37And this doctor who feels at home on a Halloween.
- 54:41I know this isn't exactly a Halloween special but forget
- 54:43Christmas special give me Doctor Who Halloween specials every
- 54:46year. And I just remembered this being
- 54:48really freaky because she goes into the house and then she's in
- 54:52water. Yeah, some weird Quarry space.
- 54:55I know it's just like big Ideas like I really want to compliment
- 55:02the what the actress's name that plays as you.
- 55:09Yeah that one. Yeah we'll figure out between
- 55:12it. She's I think she's the scarier
- 55:16of the two. Yeah just how she very quietly
- 55:19goes. You know we're going to have fun
- 55:21with you. Yeah he creepy and she's about
- 55:25to make her life completely hairless just for our own
- 55:27enjoyment. Yeah.
- 55:30And this is like to all the pieces are kind of in place.
- 55:33Now, we've been introduced, the flux, we've been introduced to
- 55:35the Lipari, I think the idea that their ships can interlock
- 55:40has been juice as well. I mean, look at that affect Star
- 55:44Wars. Good.
- 55:44That is, I mean, it reminded me of when Doctor Who came back and
- 55:49also Battlestar Galactica, the reboot was on and I remember
- 55:53watching the reboot Battlestar Galactica and get a doctor who
- 55:56doesn't look as good as this top to can't do this.
- 55:58And now, here we are. I think it's just going to get
- 56:02better as well. Me too me, too.
- 56:04I think it has to if it's going to Disney plus it has to sit
- 56:08alongside shows like the Mandalorian and things like
- 56:11that, but all those Marvel shows.
- 56:14So it has to look as good as them.
- 56:16But in terms of production value, our think this is the
- 56:19best to show has looked to this point.
- 56:23Yeah, I don't think, I don't think anybody can argue with
- 56:27that. I mean, somebody will is Doctor
- 56:28Who fandom, but Yeah, I just don't see it and you don't love
- 56:33what you got. Three sets of doors open but
- 56:38also bike. Just the Menace of the flock,
- 56:41sort of just hurtling towards them, and it's such a, in many
- 56:46ways. A simple special effects, but it
- 56:48just looks so alien. And we're going to say that a
- 56:52lot. You know, it looks weird.
- 56:54I Love Weed in science fiction. You know, it's the weirdest
- 56:58looking season of Doctor, Who that At some point when we get
- 57:01on to the next episode. Like the way that opens is just
- 57:04a whole, a whole nother world. This is the pit and, you know,
- 57:10we haven't even mentioned a second, a canola, and his music
- 57:13for out. Oh my god, I've bought the score
- 57:15for this and it I think it's brilliant.
- 57:17But the strings that he brings in in this bit, now, we're,
- 57:23we're cross-cutting to every single character lining up and
- 57:27going. This, it's a real flight mission
- 57:29statement of we're back. To take you on a massive
- 57:31adventure. With all of these characters in
- 57:33the races, you think. This is exciting.
- 57:36You haven't seen anything yet, baby.
- 57:37Alright. And then bang out with her
- 57:41saying, I, you know, I always wondered what the ends of the
- 57:43universe would look like. Yeah, absolutely.
- 57:46Gu sweet, barely talked about Jodie, Whittaker in that, you
- 57:49know, how many miss it? There's a lot to talk about and
- 57:51there's a lot going on and it's the big one of the busiest
- 57:54episodes because it's setting everything up.
- 57:56I think she gets some moments later down the line that are All
- 58:00sort of doctor is performance moments will come.
- 58:03I'll let you into a little spoiler then for episode 2, go
- 58:06on. You remember, I said to you,
- 58:08that, I thought Jody whiskers best performers ever was in one
- 58:12of the episodes this year. Okay.
- 58:14I think it's in water sontarans. I think she's of a brilliant
- 58:21episode. She is the best thing in that
- 58:23episode. I think you're probably right as
- 58:26she gives a fantastic performance, and she does
- 58:29throughout the season, but Yeah, shit said her return.
- 58:32She's got a big dock energy as I like to call this wi-fi that
- 58:37point I should discuss the range.
- 58:39That's what I love. The whole red comedy to drama to
- 58:42discussed as if you get cheeky, well, till it.
- 58:48That's the Halloween apocalypse down the honk, twice, the next
- 58:53five hours. You know what we better?
- 58:57Get started. Shall we do that?
- 58:58Yes, let's do it.
