- 3:07Let's welcome in Hannah Gardner from the Canal Charles remain association with this week's
- 3:10Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Hannah, good morning, welcome to
- 3:14the show. Good morning, how are you? I am doing fine?
- 3:17Tell us about our pet this week now, as always, let me say
- 3:22this our pet of the week. It's a lovely young lady named Rhodes.
- 3:27Rhodes and Rhoades pictures posted as always Dave Alan Radio on Facebook and the Dave
- 3:32Allen Show on x The artist formerly known as Twitter tell us all about Rhodes.
- 3:38All right, Well, she is a very pretty and very sweet girl.
- 3:44She is saved already, so she's ready to go home. Is micro
- 3:49chips and up to day on her vaccines. She's around one year old and
- 3:54I always tell everybody we go by their gums and their cheeks, so it's
- 3:59a round the age, but they're pretty accurate typically, so she is around
- 4:04one year. She does prefer calmer dogs because she is pretty shot at first.
- 4:10She does take a little bit to warm up to you. Now she
- 4:15has been in a home before, but she just escapes yards a little bit
- 4:20easier because she is more scared. She is more aware of her surroundings,
- 4:26so she's kind of wanting to bolt in situations that she gets scared of,
- 4:30so like if there's a lot of loud noises or something. She just is
- 4:34an escape artist. So we say, but she is because I would say
- 4:41she's a shackgirl. I think when she gets used to being in a home
- 4:45in a yard that is more of a secure yard for her, with a
- 4:47good sense or even just supervision out there with her, I think that she
- 4:53would get used to it. And it takes dogs like three weeks to kind
- 4:57of open up a little bit three months to folly home. So always always,
- 5:01always just be with her just for her safety and everybody else's just to
- 5:05make sure that she doesn't escape, just so that way she can get used
- 5:12to everything for a while. But she is a social butterfly. Other than
- 5:15that, she definitely loves people. She loves attention. She would be best
- 5:18in a home that doesn't have younger kids, maybe kids that are like like
- 5:26older teenagers and up, just because she is so shot at first, it
- 5:30takes her a while to kind of get used to everything. So she needs
- 5:32a little bit more tender love and care versus more playfulness at first. She
- 5:42is she's really really sweet. She's really really good. She's good on the
- 5:45leash. She does pool a little bit, but you know, that's just
- 5:48I think that that just stems from her being scared. I think once she
- 5:51gets used to you, once she gets used to being in a home,
- 5:55when she feels a little bit more safe with you, that she'll definitely be
- 5:58able to work a little bit better on the leash. But she's she's not
- 6:02hard on the leash or anything. She just tuggs a little bit here and
- 6:04there. But she is a good girl. She's around thirty seven pounds,
- 6:10I believe thirty six point something, right under thirty seven, So she definitely
- 6:15could use some love and some attention, and she would be a great,
- 6:19great, great dog for somebody who maybe wants to go on walks daily or
- 6:26spend some time in the house. I think she's more of like a couch
- 6:30potato type dog. Maybe likes to have a few toys, but she's not
- 6:32super super playful. I don't think she does prefer comrade dogs. So she's
- 6:38definitely not one at first that wants to really be super open and playful.
- 6:44But like I said, she warms up and she gets us fia and she's
- 6:47very sweet. Well, in these things you're talking about, you talked about,
- 6:50Hannah, how she does kind of have a tendency to pull on the
- 6:54leash a little bit, and how she's a bit of an escape artist.
- 6:56This is not because either one from what you're telling me, because she's a
- 7:00bad dog. It's just that she's just a little little nervous and that's why
- 7:03that they try to do these things. And I will say, as I
- 7:05always say, when it comes to dogs that tend to be escape artists,
- 7:10you know, make sure that you are prepared for that. Make sure that
- 7:13you have a dog, a yard or whatever, an the fence. If
- 7:16you're like, if the dog's life is going to be chaining it up,
- 7:18though, don't take the dog. Do not take the dog. That's the
- 7:23editorial comment from me. Okay, and I'll leave it at that, But
- 7:27these things I think could all be worked with. Let's talk about some other
- 7:30things that are going on at the shelter, And of course the big story
- 7:34that everybody's talking about now is the weather and the heat. And you don't
- 7:38need to be Spencer Adkins handed to know that it's hot. This heat is
- 7:42dangerous for all of us, but especially for our pets. Not just because
- 7:46they need hydrated, that's an obvious but sometimes with the bottoms of their feet
- 7:49too. They're not designed to spend a lot of time on hot concrete.
- 7:55They don't have shoes correct, Yes, So I always tell everybody some of
- 8:01the top things that you want to look out for is if it's too hot
- 8:03for your bear feet or your bear hands, it's more than likely way too
- 8:07hot for their pall pads. They do burn and it can get to the
- 8:13point to where it's so severe that they need to go to the vet.
- 8:15So definitely don't walk them during like the really hot part of the day,
- 8:20maybe earlier in the morning, later in the evening. Just make sure you're
- 8:24touching the pavement, making sure it's not too hot for yourself. Shade and
- 8:30water is always a good place. But I always tell everybody that shade moves
- 8:33with the sun, so you also need to move with the sun or go
- 8:37inside after a short period of time, just so that way they're not overheating.
- 8:41And if you put if you've got a box for them, unless the
- 8:43box has got you know, a carrier air conditioning unit in it, that's
- 8:46probably not a good idea because basically those boxes become like little microwaves for dogs.
- 8:52I saw and I saw that posted by somebody on social media. You
- 8:56may think you're doing a good thing by having a doghouse for the dog,
- 8:58but you just added about forty degrees onto the dog's temperature if it gets in
- 9:01there. Yes, yes, those like a glue houses and stuff like that,
- 9:05they're great for housing them. However, in the heat, it's probably
- 9:11best to just make sure that they are not hanging out in those all day
- 9:15long, because they can actually get really overheated, just like it would be
- 9:18in a car if you have all the windows up, and sometimes even if
- 9:22you have the windows down, it can still become way too hot for animals.
- 9:26But a valance showing five eny live right to you apart by fresh air.

- 9:46there hand, it looks like you got a whole lot of cats this week.
- 9:50Yes, we definitely have a lot of cats right now. I think
- 9:54that we are in need of some period of hit and chowel. I know
- 9:58that we were a couple of days ago. I'm sure we still are,
- 10:03but we definitely could use that for a donation. If anybody has extra kitten
- 10:09child that they haven't used and they're not going to and they want to bring
- 10:11up, or maybe if they want to donate online or any particular way that
- 10:16you want to donate, we would welcome it. We definitely are in need
- 10:20of it. You guys out of about anywhere this weekend. Hopefully if you
- 10:24are, you're staying cool, because I know there's so many activities going on.
- 10:26You guys are gonna be out somewhere this weekend. No, I don't
- 10:30think we're going to be out anywhere this weekend. Probably best, Probably best
- 10:33unless you know, unless you're just doing education and not actually taking the pets
- 10:37out. It's probably not a good time to take the pets out, right,
- 10:39Yes, right, and yeah it's definitely hot out right now. We
- 10:43got to put the animals needs first. But it's definitely something that we're doing.
- 10:48I believe maybe next week. Okay, we'll talk about that then.
- 10:50Hey, Hannah, as always, I appreciate you being here. We'll talk
- 10:52next week. Thanks a lot, and stay cool you as well. Thank
- 10:56thank you, and a gardener from the Canal Charles, you've made association with

- 11:41get roads for free now. She has a bit of an escape artist,
- 11:45as Hannah tells us, so she does need to be in a fenced in
- 11:48yard mainly because she's just so shy. It pulls a little bit on the
- 11:52leash. But that can all be worked with if if you get her the
- 11:54right home. Probably would do better in a home with older kids, simply
- 11:58because of the shyest thing. Sometimes younger kids don't understand why they can't hug
- 12:01the doggie, you know, and problems ensue. So beautiful dog, though
- 12:07around thirty seven pounds came into astrail, would make a great pet for your
- 12:09families. To go check out Rhods and again if you want to see the

- 15:43worked with them every year at Kana County and then I work with them statewide.
- 15:48I've been affiliated with Special Olympics since early eighties. I love them,
- 15:52don't you love them? Gotta love them. Here we are Dave Season twenty,
- 15:56week number five, already clipping along, right, we're skipping along.
- 16:00And summer actually just started yesterdayday. Yeah, it's like five o'clock yesterday or
- 16:03something. But it's been awesome. It looks for it looks like it's going
- 16:07to be another spectacular epic evening in the making. Tonight Moses Outer Group Live
- 16:12and Levy brought you by the City of Charleston Tonight at six thirty we have
- 16:17They've been on the stage down every four the show and Bomb Stage, the
- 16:19kind Thieves. They're funky, they play some classic rock, they play some
- 16:25bluegrass. They love the jam. They're very entertaining, they're very Appalachian and
- 16:30thee they'll get the audience revved up for what has become a pretty much a
- 16:33favorite each and every summer. Now down at Live on Levy. When John
- 16:37Ingram pays a tribute to a band, and he's done the Who, He's
- 16:41done Prince, he's done, David Bowie, He's done others and others and
- 16:45others. He did Tom Petty one year. Yeah, this year is the
- 16:48talking Heads, the quintessential punk rock band from the eighties. So they're going
- 16:53to be He's assembled about sixteen to twenty different musicians from all over the state
- 16:57of West Virginia. Course they'll do some of your favorites, take me to
- 17:02the River once in a lifetime, and all your talking Head favorites. It's
- 17:04talking Heads all the time. Tonight from seven forty five until nine thirty.
- 17:08He'll do They'll do two forty five minute sets, will stop at nine thirty.
- 17:14It's it looks like it's going to be nice, looks like it's going
- 17:17to be warm. A tad just a toushcosh. So we'll have The city
- 17:22provides a complimentary waters down by the show and bomb stage, so just say
- 17:26hydrated, get up. We have tons of beverage boosts up on the buddle

- 17:48you might want to mix in one of those and mix in a water like
- 17:52every one in another. Hey, nobody likes a good coal beer or three
- 17:56more than myself, but I will say that. And a night like tonight
- 18:00now they're having a Colbert. You need to have some water and make it
- 18:03makes sense. I ain't gonna cut it. Mix in some water folks should
- 18:06be a nice evening. It might be a great night to be on the
- 18:08boat. So if you have a boat or a boating buddy, you might
- 18:11want to give them a call. My favorite people or my people with my
- 18:14boats. But it should be fun down there. The Kind Thieves at six
- 18:18point thirty. John Ingram's Tribute to the Talking Heads at seven forty five,
- 18:22brought to you by the City of Charleston. Of course we do this.
- 18:25It's live and Levy's great fun for that great cause. And I always love
- 18:27to talk about that because I love the charities that we help, and they
- 18:30are five Inner City Charities of Charleston, and we help RCCR, the Covenant
- 18:34House, the YWCA, Sojourner Shelter, KB Collective, Canall Valley Collective and
- 18:41man O Meal and all those charities have something to do with maybe helping people
- 18:45with a bite to eat and a place to sleep at night. We've raised
- 18:48one hundred and twenty two thousand dollars the last nineteen plus seasons on these fifty
- 18:52to fifty tickets that we sell. I don't know who the charity will be
- 18:56tonight, but they'll be volunteers there selling fifty to fifty tickets. We will
- 19:00do a drawing about eight forty. Last week, Annette, I want to
- 19:03give a shout out to Annette. She won the pot. She donated it
- 19:07back to the causes. You don't have to do that, but Annette,
- 19:08bless your heart for doing that. That helps the charities and it helps us
- 19:12with our mission to provide a purpose for these charities. So it's been a
- 19:18great year. Looks like a great night tonight. Come down, Dave.
- 19:22I know you enjoy this as much as I do. John has been rehearsing
- 19:26this with his crew for months and months and months, so tonight should be
- 19:30an epic and special night as ill and I think it says something Jim about
- 19:33the musical prowess of one John Ingram to be able to do Wow, the
- 19:37Prince thing, and to be able to do the Tom Petty thing. And
- 19:38now he's coming around doing the talking Heads. And we had John schedule to
- 19:42be here, but he have a little schedule. The confidence couldn't be here
- 19:45this morning, man, But I would have. One of the questions I
- 19:47was gonna ask him is how the world did he come up with the talking
- 19:48heads? Because talking heads is you know, as you said a little bit
- 19:53of punk. They're a little bit of art rock, little prog rock as
- 19:56we used to call it back in the day. And they do a variety
- 19:59of different songs. I mean, people know, burning down the House,
- 20:02their version of take Me to the River, which is now green song,
- 20:04right, and uh and and road to Nowhere and all these different So it's
- 20:07it's a it's a wide range of music. I'd love to ask him the
- 20:11same question. I can't wait to ask him when I see him. But
- 20:14I was in college in the early eighties, late seventies, early eighties and
- 20:17MTV was just coming. That was it. That was the beginning of MTV,
- 20:21And it would be on in the dorm studio or the dorm lobby and
- 20:25we were watching that stuff and here come these talking heads and we just thought
- 20:27it was for that time, not now, but for that time, it
- 20:32was off the wall. Who are these people? What are they doing?
- 20:36How? Why are they standing on their head? Why are they singing standing
- 20:38on their head? What kind of lyric is that? We were? You
- 20:41know, that was forty years ago or like what in the that's back when
- 20:44that's when that's when MTV actually played music videos. That shows you watched.
- 20:48Yeah, we actually watched it. They don't do that anyway. We sat
- 20:49around that lobby and just watch them for hours upon hours. But it was
- 20:53fun so that if you, if you remember the Talking Heads, this will
- 20:56bring back a lot of wonderful memories for you. And John does a great
- 21:00job again. They rehearse, he gets he assembles an amazing lineup of musicians.
- 21:03I mean, Pushkin will be there, and I was gonna say,
- 21:07I was gonna give a shout out to my boy Michael Pushkin, but he'll

- 23:15that's going on through the weekend. Plus a lot of Jazz Festival and music
- 23:18they throw music in there too, is back tomorrow on the grounds University of
- 23:22Charleston. Sarah Right is with the Fund for the Arts and she joins us
- 23:25now via the Big Lee Pigley Wigglely hotline. Sarah, good morning and welcome
- 23:29to the show. Hey Dave, how are you I'm doing for having me
- 23:32on? I am I am doing fine. Thank you for being here.
- 23:34Tell us about this big event tomorrow. Yeah, So, as you said,
- 23:38it's taking place tomorrow from three to ten pm on the lawn at the
- 23:41University of Charleston. And the Wine and Jazz Music Festival is a Charleston staple.
- 23:45This is the twenty fifth anniversary of the event, and we have an
- 23:49awesome day plan for everyone. So what are people going to do other than
- 23:52try to stay cool when they're out there. Well, we have some amazing
- 23:57artists lined up, varying from local artists and Natalie renowned artists, So we
- 24:02have top tier musicians going to be present, and then we have some amazing
- 24:07food and drink beggars and there's something for everyone there. Whether you like wine,
- 24:12craft, beer, food, We've got it all. And this is
- 24:18the twenty fifty year. I know you haven't. I mean, I don't
- 24:21think you've been a part of all twenty five of them. But here the
- 24:22idea how those things started. Somebody just said let's have some music and have
- 24:26some wine and have fun or what. Well, you know, so the
- 24:30Wine and Jazz Music Festival is actually a fundraiser. Yeah, and I want
- 24:33to talk about that too, so go ahead. Yeah, So, I
- 24:36mean, and that's how it started. The Wine and Jazz Music Festival is
- 24:40Fun for the Arts of largest fundraiser, and you know, the money that
- 24:45we raised from this goes directly back towards the eleven local art groups that we
- 24:51support. And these art groups range in discipline from dance to music, and
- 24:56they affect people from all demographics. So really, by this event, you're
- 25:00investing and ricking Charleston. It's a wonderful return and fun for the arts.
- 25:07Give me a little a little background on fund for the arts because this is
- 25:11not the only event you do. Give me some background on that, right,
- 25:15Yeah. So we hold two large fundraisers. Wine and Jazz Music Festival
- 25:19is our largest, and we have another one in the fall called the Capital
- 25:23Cocktail Classics. And so through those events, it helps us achieve our sole
- 25:27focus, which is raising money for local art groups. That's why we exist.
- 25:33And you know, many of these art groups don't have the ability to
- 25:37fundraise and put on large scale events to raise money. That's where we step
- 25:41them, so we raise money for them that allows them to focus on putting
- 25:45out really good content for the Charleston Valley. Well, it's certainly as I
- 25:49said, it's been going on for twenty five years, so you must be
- 25:52doing something right. I know people look forward to this. I've attended and
- 25:55passed myself. It's a fantastic event. Give us all the details, the
- 25:59time, the hours and so on and so forth for tomorrow. Yeah.
- 26:02Absolutely. So you can buy tickets online up until nine o'clock tonight and you
- 26:07can find tickets on our Facebook page Fund for the Arts West Virginia. And
- 26:11if you miss out on purchasing tickets online, no worries, you can purchase
- 26:15tickets at the gates. And as I said, it's from three to ten
- 26:19pm tomorrow at the University of Charleston. It's going to be a great day,
- 26:23it always is. Sarah. You folks do wonderful work there with the
- 26:26Fun for the Arts. Thank you for joining us and good luck with everything
- 26:29tomorrow and stay is I've been saying to everybody, stay cool today. Thanks
- 26:33tomorrow, right all right, thank you, thank you. That's Sarah right

- 30:40We're gonna wait for Senator Joe Manchin to give us a call. So yesterday
- 30:42on the show, I had our good friend Rusty Web, attorney Rusty Web
- 30:45schedule to be on the show yesterday, and Rusty wanted. He was in
- 30:51Normandy a couple of weeks ago for the commemoration, and I thought it'd be
- 30:55interesting maybe reach out to him and have him to come on the show to
- 30:56talk about it. Didn't hear from Rusty at all yesterday, which is not
- 31:00very Rusty like. I didn't hear from him, didn't know what was going
- 31:04on. I walked out in the green room during the break. No Rusty
- 31:07Web, I'm trying to call him. He goes straight to voicemail. Coop
- 31:11was doing some things down here and he was trying to call him. Couldn't
- 31:14get ahold of him. Didn't hear from me so long? And behold last
- 31:15night and I'm scrolling through the book of Face and I find that poor Rusty
- 31:22dropped his phone in the water while fishing, and his daughter had did the
- 31:26done this post on Facebook saying, hey, Dad's going to get back to
- 31:30everybody's said as he can. So Rusty, if you're listening to the show,
- 31:33we'll try to get your rescheduled at a later time. Poor poor Rusty
- 31:37dropped his phone while fishing. I mean, look, if you're gonna lose
- 31:41your phone, fishing might very well be the way to do it. There's

- 31:56Let's welcome into the show. US Senator Joe Man. Good morning, sir,
- 32:00Hey, good morning, Dave. Are you I'm doing fine? Thank
- 32:02you for being here. Hope you're staying staying cool wherever you are, sir.
- 32:07Well, I'm back in Charleston now, but Dave, so sorry.
- 32:09Yesterday I was just a really bad self service coming over the mountains, so
- 32:14I was in bad shat well, you're here's the thing. You know,
- 32:15your folks sent me an email. You're a US senator. I mean,
- 32:19things happen. You know. It's okay you get a pass. No,
- 32:22no, we need to plan better than that. But I I just couldn't
- 32:24get a good signal. I didn't want to mess it up. So it's
- 32:27all good. Thank you for allowing me to come today. At least you
- 32:30didn't drop. I had Rusty web on before you yesterday. Rusty No showed
- 32:34because he dropped his He dropped his phone in the river while fishing. That
- 32:37was his excuse, So you know he had probably had more fun than you
- 32:42did. All right, this is the first time I've had you on the
- 32:43show, I think since you made the switch from Democrat to independent. Still
- 32:47feeling good about it, sir, Yeah, I do. I've been well.
- 32:51I've always been independent, Dave. I never let the party guide me
- 32:52in any direction that I didn't think was good for my state, of the
- 32:55constituents of our state. So now all of a sudden, the parties want
- 33:01you. They've weaponized the political process, and they want you to pick a
- 33:05side. And I said, I don't e belong on one side, the
- 33:07American side, and I worked for my entire constituency of West Virginian's Democrat,
- 33:14Republicans, Independence, and everything in between. I said, so, you
- 33:16can't tell me that it's because the Democrat you have a debut your name is
- 33:20supposed to do this, or if you have an R by, your name's
- 33:22supposed to cater to this side. So I just said enough was enough,
- 33:27and I just went ahead and changed because I felt that's where I've been all
- 33:30my life and I wanted to do it before I left the Senate. And
- 33:32the day you made the announcement, we heard from all the political types,
- 33:36selected officials, and of course talking heads like me. But what have you
- 33:38heard from the people about your announcements, sir. Not. I think people
- 33:43were pleased nothing has changed. I think they've never looked at me as a
- 33:46hyper partisan type person, so it hasn't It's not a surprise, it's not
- 33:51something that they didn't expect, and it's not something that I have changed in
- 33:54how I'm going to be representing them for the next five months in the US
- 33:58Senate. So I haven't had any pushback whatsoever or feedback from that that would
- 34:04be derogatory. They're just happy that I feel much more relieved now. I
- 34:08could speak more freely, but I think I've always done that, so Dave,
- 34:13not a whole lot has changed, except that makes me able to speak
- 34:16to both sides without You know, right now, if you're have an R
- 34:20by your name, the d think you're the enemy. If you have a
- 34:22D by your name, the rs are supposed to think you're an enemy.
- 34:25Well, if you have an eye by your name, you know, I
- 34:28says, I don't hate anybody. I can love both sides, and that
- 34:30gives me a chance to work with both sides equally. I got this text
- 34:34to the show, and then we'll get into why I really had on the
- 34:37show. But I think this bears this bears you hearing this. This was
- 34:42a text and to the show that came in right before you came on.
- 34:44That says, please ask Senator Mansion. If Democrats really want unity and healing
- 34:49and not just submission and conformity, then people like him must tell the media
- 34:52and others in Congress to stop calling all Republicans and Trump supporters racist or Nazis.
- 34:59That is the problem. We are not seen as individuals anymore. We're
- 35:01all lumped into all these different despicable groups, thus to humanizing us, making
- 35:06it appear acceptable, even encouraged, to attack, slander, and in some
- 35:08cases physically assault us. My question this was from a texture. Would you
- 35:13consider condemning this on the Senate floor and publicly and interviews. By the way,
- 35:16I've never heard you call anybody a Nazi or anything. I will say
- 35:20that I've never heard that guy. Well, Dave, let me just tell
- 35:22you this. I absolutely agree with your text or whoever texted that into their
- 35:25spot on. But on both sides. I mean right now, if you
- 35:30have a d buy your name, we're supposed to be absolutely irresponsible and socialist.
- 35:35So if you have a d buy your name is supposed to be a
- 35:37socialist, crazy left winger. Well, I can guarantee. I grew up
- 35:40with Democrats my entire life, and West Virginia Democrats were never like that.
- 35:45We always had a farther liberal side to the point, and there's always been
- 35:51a further conservative side to the Republican side. But the bottom line was,
- 35:55you know, people want a grand old party to be grand again, and
- 35:58it should be. We want the Democratic Party to be responsible and compassionate.
- 36:02There's nothing wrong with that. And you know, but you're right our state
- 36:07being mostly a red state today, but we were always more I think,
- 36:12a more grounded central state. We were always realistic and sensible, I believe.
- 36:17And now because the Democratic Party in Washington, which I don't and I've
- 36:22always said this from day one, I'm not a Washington Democrat, never have
- 36:27been, never would be. And I have a lot of my wonderful friends
- 36:31and Republicans and aren't Washington Republicans, and they're upset with the system. So
- 36:36the the text end, I will condemn both sides, and I will give
- 36:39my farewell speech based around what I identified what people in America identify with people
- 36:45in West Virginia have identified as being wrong with the political system. We just
- 36:50have different ideas, that's all. We have a different way of governing.
- 36:52We want Mountaineers are always free Montani Liberal Cipro sibli Ciberi Cimpurai was always hears
- 37:00are always free. And if that's going to be the case, then why
- 37:02all of a sudden, now do you put all these restrictions, tell me
- 37:05what I can do cars, I have to drive different ways, I have
- 37:08to do things. It doesn't make any sense at all, But yet we
- 37:10all have a responsibility to the climate. And I've said, you can innovate
- 37:15your way to a cleaner climate, you just can't eliminate. They don't want
- 37:19us to use certain things that we produce here in West Virginia, coal gas
- 37:22and all the different things that's needed to run this country. We're doing it
- 37:25better with innovation technology than ever before, and we're investing more in new technologies.
- 37:32So we have to be an all of the above approach to this.
- 37:37But they're spot on. That's exactly it's been weaponized. Pick a side.
- 37:42There's only one side day, the American side. You can pick a philosophical
- 37:45position. You can pick an ideology that you might like the Republican side better
- 37:51than the Democrat or the Democrat side better. But the bottom line is the
- 37:53extremes on both sides don't work. But that's all you get today because they
- 37:58force you there. They call you a socialist, or they call you a
- 38:01neo Nazi or an anti democracy, and this and that. We all have
- 38:05a different view and you can't fix it unless I can sit down and talk
- 38:09with both sides as an independent day You're I'm going to look at me like
- 38:14roseclul or Glass Owl. He's really a D or he's really an R and
- 38:16he's just saying this to be saying it. No, I'm really an I
- 38:20I'm really independent because I believe I will put my country before my party system
- 38:24of party affiliation anytime, any day, talk about US, Senator Joe Manchin,
- 38:30I want to talk about the MVP, the Mountain Valley of Mountain Valley
- 38:34Pipelines or the gas is flowing. The gas is flowing, thank god.
- 38:37Took ten years and it doubled the price of the line that we'll all be
- 38:42paying a price for. It went from three and a half approx. Me.
- 38:45Three and a half billion dollars to over seven and a half billion dollars
- 38:49because of litigation and also the permitting and the permitting, the permitting hassle that
- 38:54you go through to get anything it proved to be built in America is seven
- 38:59to ten, thirteen to fifteen years longer. And we're trying to change that.
- 39:02And that's my commitment right now to get that done before all leave Congress,
- 39:07is getting the permitting process that when we have something that's needed in America,
- 39:10West Virginia or any other state and it has to be done for basically
- 39:15the quality of life for every citizen, but also the defense of our nation,
- 39:20and we can't do it in a timely fashion because of anybody, there's
- 39:22always going to be someone protesting. They have a right to be heard and
- 39:27they have a right to make sure that we've answered every question. But enough
- 39:30is enough? Can six years of litigation should be a six month litigation.
- 39:36We're changing things that we can to make sure that if there's something wrong,
- 39:39it's not going to be done. It should not have be done. The
- 39:42MVP. There's a demand for that product in the southeast. They're desperate for
- 39:46the natural gas that we have abundance in West Virginia and for the sake of
- 39:50our nation and also for the defense of our nation because of all that gas
- 39:53will be used in the basis that we have in South Caroline, North Carolina.
- 39:58So all of that is going to be good for America and it's going
- 40:00to be good for West Virginia forty five million dollars a year. Add the
- 40:05lorem taxes to our state, another approximately about one hundred and fifty to two
- 40:08hundred million of royalties coming into the landowners in West Virginia. So it's it's
- 40:13going to be a windfall for everybody. There's been a lot in the news,
- 40:16Senator, and I know Hobby covered it in detail a couple of days
- 40:19ago about bump stocks. You have joined a bipartisan effort to ban them.
- 40:22I know you're a gun guy. Explain to the average person, though,
- 40:27what a bump stock is and why you feel so passionately about this sirm.
- 40:30Well, they can get on the video and see it turns a semi automatic
- 40:34into a full blown machine gun automatic. I mean, you hold sugar and
- 40:37as as far as everything until m to your chain, am to your magazine.
- 40:40So it's just basically. In twenty eighteen, President Donald Trump put a
- 40:45ban and applauded him for doing that. I supported him one hundred percent on
- 40:51banning those things after that horrible massacre in Las Vegas, which is still the
- 40:54most horrific massacre we've ever had in the United States, civilians on civilians,
- 41:00and that stopped it, okay to a certain extent that we have to go
- 41:04back and create legislation to permanently band it. There's no need for that at
- 41:08all. In nineteen thirty four, we stopped you know, the old Tommy
- 41:14guns the gangsters used, and David The whole thing about guns is this,
- 41:19No one's going to take your right to own a gun. No one.
- 41:22That's not going to happen. The Second Amendment is guarded preciously by both sides,
- 41:27more side more so than the Republicans, but both sides understand. What
- 41:30I tried to explain to everybody, especially to the far left, is the
- 41:35bottom line is this responsible gun ownership. And that's why when I did the
- 41:39with Pat Toomey, Republican from Pennsylvania, and I didn't mansion to me,
- 41:44it was only for background Dave, I don't know anybody I've ever hunted with,
- 41:46or shot with, or done anything with with guns that didn't have a
- 41:52background check. And gun sends in West Virginia, you're taught at a very
- 41:54young age you never loan your gun to an irresponsible member of your family or
- 42:00a stranger. You never sell your gun to a stranger. You hunt your
- 42:04safety. You never have a gun loaded anywhere until you get in the woods,
- 42:07to whether you're going to hunt, or basically you're at the shooting range,
- 42:09when you're in a target practice or a skeet shoot, you never have
- 42:14a loaded gun. That's gun sense. So we teach that at a very
- 42:17young age in West Virginia. But you have people have no idea about gun
- 42:22etiquette or gun sense, and for some reason, they can just walk in
- 42:27to a gun store and get a background check if they never had a criminal
- 42:30record, and if they're a criminal, they can find a gun show somewhere
- 42:36at a mall or somewhere or a civic center and there'll be somebody selling it
- 42:40and not requiring any background checks. That's what we were trying to stop.
- 42:45We want to make sure that we know who the person the background, whether
- 42:50they have a criminal or a mental problem or in their records, so we
- 42:54can prevent them from having a gun that they're not responsible to have one.
- 43:00Be one final thing before we let you go. We originally had this interview
- 43:02scheduled for yesterday, West Virginia Day, and so we said some things came
- 43:06up. I'm going to give you an opportunity to close this out by talking
- 43:08about your love for the say to West Virginia, sir, Well, my
- 43:12love fair starter when I was born here in Farmington in West Virginia, little
- 43:15town of five hundred people, and watching how the hard working people that I
- 43:20know and my family and everybody around. They all worked in the mines urre.
- 43:24My grandfather had a little grocery store like most in the fifties in West
- 43:29Virginia. And you watch that that work ethic, that's just basically it's in
- 43:34your DNA, and you're so proud. And my grandfather served in World War
- 43:37One, my uncle served in the Marines, one uncle served in a Navy,
- 43:40and my dad in the Army. And the proud patriotism that they have.
- 43:45I've never met any coal miner that wasn't patriotic. And they have mined
- 43:50the coal that made the still that built the gunge and ships that truly built
- 43:53the middle class, if you will, and the industrial might that we have.
- 43:58This little state's given everything she has, and the Good Lord bless us
- 44:01with the greatest venues you've ever looked at. In beauty, I'm surpassed.
- 44:06So yes, I'm very proud. And they've given me bragging rights all over
- 44:08our country and around the world as I've traveled. It's also the birthday.
- 44:13Yesterday was the birthday of not only the state of West Virginia, June twenty,
- 44:16eighteen sixty three, but it was my wife's birthday. So I got
- 44:21to celebrate that again too. You better get that in there all I'm that
- 44:23way in there, and I've never forgotten it either day, because both of
- 44:27them happened the same time. So that's been a blessing. Well you better
- 44:30not say they both happened in eighteen sixty three, sir, No, no,
- 44:32no, no. But you know, when you think about West Virginia
- 44:36has been on the right side of history every time. In eighteen sixty three,
- 44:39we were on the right side of history. We fought for the unions,
- 44:43and we fought basically against slavery. We fought basically for equal rights.
- 44:49We fought for all the things that people should enjoy. And I've always said
- 44:52this, everyone deserves to have an opportunity to live a quality life in this
- 44:57great country of ours, and West Virginia has the fence to death. Now,
- 45:00there might be some people outside the mode of what you believe is normal,
- 45:05or I believe might be normal, or a majority of people believe might
- 45:07be normal, but they still have that right to be protected, to have
- 45:10the opportunity for the quality of life they desire. And that's what I continue
- 45:15to fight for. And I think our little state, basically, I think
- 45:19represents that as well as any state in the country. I'm a proud West
- 45:22Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, Independent from West Virginia. It's always a pleasure to
- 45:25have you on the show, sir. Thank you very much for being here,

- 48:42are not happy that the senator did not answer the question will you condemn it
- 48:45on the Senate floor? He said he would condemn it. Uh, didn't
- 48:51catch him saying he'd do it on the Senate floor as the textra asked him
- 48:52to. But he did say and his exitsman, by the way, that
- 48:57exits speech should be a heck of a speech when he leaves. Well,
- 49:00we'll see when when that happens. Tex says, remember when Republicans lost their
- 49:06minds after Obama was elected and vowed to make him a one term president.
- 49:08I do Republicans have been playing the game, the name calling game for years
- 49:14now. They're acting like victims because their party courts the white nationalists. They're
- 49:19morons. Says, that's like all this name I mean, you know when
- 49:22you see it all on social media, you know, Trump tards, lib
- 49:24tards, you know, it's just it just needs to go away. It's
- 49:29just not okay. You and I disagree because I'm a Republican, you're a
- 49:31Democrat. I'm Democrat, You're a Republican. We don't need to get into
- 49:35all this, I mean, we don't, but as my grandmother used to
- 49:38say, and I'll clean it up. Wish in one hand and you know
- 49:42what in the other, and see which one gets filled up. Quicker tex
- 49:45says, who ray for the Mountain Valley Pipeline? It's created temporary jobs.
- 49:49West Virginians won't see a reduction on their gas bills and the local residents get
- 49:52to experience the ecological damage. Who ray for MVP? Says A texture texter
- 49:59said as mansions as fake as can be. I once admired his service to
- 50:02the state of nation. Now I see how wrong he was. He serves
- 50:06himself and dave as to the question about calling out Nazis. Ever, dare
- 50:09to ask Senator Capitol or any Republican who condemn the vile language incessantly hurled at
- 50:15Democrats or so called Rhinos for that matter, start by asking them to condemn
- 50:19the despicable notion that jay six criminals or hostages and political prisoners to the texture.
- 50:25I agree, But do you think do you think that's gonna happen?
- 50:30Probably? Probably not. Speaking of politics a little politics this morning, I
- 50:36am told that Republican nominee for governor at Attorney General Patrick Morrissey and former candidate
- 50:40for governor Chris Miller were seen at Starbucks on the boulevard yesterday when somebody told
- 50:49me that somebody just happened to see them, and that's fine. There's probably
- 50:52a reason, though I thought about this. That probably a reason I have
- 50:54never seriously considered a run for politics, because I don't know, after being
- 51:00trashed in a campaign and I could set someone, I could sit down with
- 51:06someone over a cup of coffee and say, hey, how can I help
- 51:08you get elected? They must just be better people than I am. That's
- 51:14that's all I can say about it. I suspect that the ones who were
- 51:20the Republican nominees for governor on the Republican side who did not get elected,
- 51:24talking about former Delegate Capitol and of course Chris Miller and Secretary of State At
- 51:28mac Warner, I expect they will line up behind Morrissey. Mac Warner on
- 51:32this show already said that in his role as a citizen, not a Secretary
- 51:36of state h and and by the fact that they were sitting at Starbucks yesterday
- 51:40having a Mocha Frappe latte together, I guess Chris Miller will too. I'm
- 51:46sure that they're all going to support Morrissey. But to what extent will they
- 51:52go? I just I just don't see Capito U in particular, uh walking
- 51:58in a parade come September ROC two for more so we'll see the politics does
