- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Welcome to today's episode, Helping Our Children Develop a Biblical Worldview.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: As parents, we all desire our children to have a strong foundation of faith in God.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: However, with so many distractions and worldly messages bombarding them, it can be a challenge to help them understand the importance of having a biblical worldview.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Today, the world's influence on our children begins so much earlier than most of us experienced in our lives.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: We live in a society where even young children are bombarded daily with media advertisements on TVs, social media, magazines, and so forth.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: These portray success as external beauty, popularity, sexiness, and so forth.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok have recently been under attack for their psychological and emotional impacts on children and teens, making them feel they don't measure up.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: A recent Wall Street Journal article entitled Facebook Knows Instagram is toxic for teen girls, its research shows, shows a youth mental health issue that Facebook plays down in public.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Just one statistic from the article says, quote, one in five teens say that Instagram makes them feel worse about themselves.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: In order to help our children develop a biblical worldview, we need to make sure we understand what it is.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: A good definition is, quote, it's a way of looking at the world through the lens of God's word, the Bible.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: It is rooted in the belief that God created everything and that he has a plan for his creation.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: First, at its core, a biblical worldview acknowledges that all truth comes from God's word.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: This means truth is not relative, such as whatever makes us happy, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, it's okay.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: God's truth is absolute.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: We must rely on Scripture to guide us into truth.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: We cannot simply trust our own understanding or cultural norms to determine what truth is or what is best for us.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Our cultural norms are so screwed up today it's almost unbelievable what our culture tries to tell us is truth.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Second, a biblical worldview recognizes that humanity was created in God's image but has fallen into sin.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: This means that while we have inherent value and worth as individuals, we are also broken and in need of redemption.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: So where do we start to help our children gain a biblical worldview?
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Well, one, we can begin early in their life reading Bible stories and the Bible regularly to help them develop an understanding of God.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: There are many good children's Bibles and collections of Bible stories for all ages available.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Second, as parents, we must demonstrate a godly worldview in our lives every day.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: We need to let our children see us reading the Bible, praying, and living out our faith.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Another thing is preferably consider the best alternatives for your family as far as attending a God-centered church, sending your children to public or private school or homeschooling, and what other groups and activities that might encourage your child to live for God.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: We also need to take advantage of teachable moments.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: When something happens in your child's life that relates to their faith or God's character, we can use it as an opportunity to talk about it together.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: We can discuss different reactions and what reaction pleases God.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Then we can pray together.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: The earlier you begin in a child's life to build that foundation of truths and a biblical worldview, the earlier they will be equipped to stand against an ungodly worldview and culture that permeates our current lifestyle.
