- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Today I want to remind you of an obvious truth, but it's a truth that we sometimes like to avoid.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: And here's this truth you're going to die someday.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Now, I realize you didn't turn on this episode expecting kind of this dour, dark message, but you know, I'm committed to telling people the truth, and the truth is that none of our lives are going to last forever.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: We're all going to leave this earth someday.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: So here's my question to you, knowing that that's the case, what is going to happen to all those ideas that you've been storing?
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: What's going to happen to all those books and stories that you wanted to get to someday, but didn't?
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: What happens to all those plans and dreams for the writing that you've been thinking about for a long time?
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Well, the cold hard truth is that all those things will die with you unless you do something with them while you're still alive.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Now, the exception, of course, is if you're one of those rare authors who leaves notebooks full of amazing ideas and publishers turn those into books years or decades after your death.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Or they have other writers flush them out and they list you as a co-author.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: But I digress because that's a pretty rare situation.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And whenever that happens, a lot of times the results aren't even that great.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: But I digress.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Now the fact remains that for most of us, our creative ideas will have no value once we're gone because we're the only person who would have done anything with those.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: So here's another way of saying this.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: It all goes back in the box when you go into the box.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: So my encouragement to myself and to you now is to make use of those ideas.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Don't wait around for the perfect time because the perfect time is never going to come.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: I think that great ideas are like fireworks.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Until the fuse is lit, a firework is just an object made of paper, powder, and a fuse.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: But when you light the fuse, you set in motion a chain reaction that produces a bang.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And your ideas work the same way.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: You have to light the fuse by putting those ideas out there on blog posts, on podcasts, social media, books, articles, or workshops.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Your writing doesn't have any impact and it doesn't produce a bang if it's just sitting there on your computer hard drive where nobody knows anything about it.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: So remember, your life has an expiration date.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And my encouragement to you is to make use of the time.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Make use of those ideas while you're still around and you can do something about them.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: So here's today's challenge are you making a habit of getting your ideas out there, or are you storing them away for the quote unquote someday that may never come?
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Hey, my friend, as always, thanks for listening, and I'll see you next time.
