Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / ITB: More Intel On Philadelphia Eagles Pickups After Wild Day Of NFL Trade Deadline Action
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on? Everybody? It's
- 0:15Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan. It is the day after
- 0:20Speaker 1: the NFL trade deadline has come and gone, Adam, and
- 0:25Speaker 1: it's kind of funny. We've actually already discussed all the
- 0:28Speaker 1: moves the Eagles have made, bringing in Jail and Phillips,
- 0:31Speaker 1: bringing in Jay r Alexander, bringing in Michael Carter, the
- 0:34Speaker 1: two because Howie Roseman got ahead of the market. And
- 0:39Speaker 1: I have even a different opinion I guess now of
- 0:41Speaker 1: the Eagles moves after all the craziness of Tuesday. Sometimes
- 0:47Speaker 1: you're happy, right as a fan when your GM is
- 0:49Speaker 1: aggressive and makes that killer move. But sometimes you're also
- 0:54Speaker 1: happy when your GM isn't too aggressive and just bankrolls
- 0:59Speaker 1: everything to go for it, like a couple of teams. Yeah,
- 1:03Speaker 1: the Cold maybe the Cowboys, but I think that the Eagles.
- 1:07Speaker 1: A friend of mine texted me and said, man, they've
- 1:09Speaker 1: kind of made underwhelming moves, and I said, maybe it
- 1:12Speaker 1: just called for that. You know, they clearly got better
- 1:16Speaker 1: and deeper with their moves, and we'll see. But what
- 1:18Speaker 1: a wild Tuesday deadline. I don't remember anything like it.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It was.
- 1:23Speaker 2: It's funny you say that because I was talking to
- 1:26Speaker 2: there's a personal guy, personnel guy that you and I
- 1:28Speaker 2: know very well, and he was what who I thought of?
- 1:30Speaker 2: Because he told me, he gave me kind of an
- 1:33Speaker 2: idea what his team was thinking. They wound up not
- 1:34Speaker 2: making a trade on Tuesday. There were eight trades, by
- 1:36Speaker 2: the way, on Tuesday. But I said, hey, did you
- 1:39Speaker 2: see what Philly did?
- 1:40Speaker 1: What you know?
- 1:41Speaker 2: What your thoughts? He goes, he thought, he thought how
- 1:43Speaker 2: he did very well. He said he didn't like the
- 1:47Speaker 2: Alexander move. He understood why they did because he knew
- 1:49Speaker 2: the Eagles weren't very good opposite Mitchell. But he love
- 1:52Speaker 2: the Jalen Phillips move, he said. He goes, and he
- 1:55Speaker 2: knows for fact that Phillips is on his way back
- 1:57Speaker 2: pretty well. Like he's not quite what he was before
- 1:59Speaker 2: the jury. He's doing well because he's got You get
- 2:02Speaker 2: a guy, he's got a first round pedigree who's close
- 2:06Speaker 2: to what he was before two massive injuries, and you're
- 2:09Speaker 2: trying to win a Super Bowl? Did you give up
- 2:11Speaker 2: a third round pick? Like you Yes, it's a third round.
- 2:13Speaker 2: That's a starter round, by the way, it's the last
- 2:16Speaker 2: of the true starter rounds, right, But you know what
- 2:18Speaker 2: you go for, and it was good to get a
- 2:20Speaker 2: point of view from someone who works in the business,
- 2:23Speaker 2: because that's what we do here. We don't do recaps.
- 2:25Speaker 2: We go inside, and I just wanted to get an
- 2:28Speaker 2: idea of what personal people thought of the Eagle stuff.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Everybody likes Michael Carter, you know, they now they understand
- 2:35Speaker 2: Salad got fired last year, which we should have mentioned
- 2:38Speaker 2: in the last show, like there were some issues going
- 2:40Speaker 2: on and there was this bad coaching last year. It
- 2:42Speaker 2: was just it was a nightmare. But you know, Cardi
- 2:44Speaker 2: Loos's job this year got replaced. Yeah, so you know
- 2:47Speaker 2: we have to point that out, like he may not
- 2:49Speaker 2: be the guy that he once was, right, but we'll
- 2:52Speaker 2: get into that and we'll give you some more intel.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And how he.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Confirmed our reporting last week of mentioning the safety position
- 2:57Speaker 2: on Tuesday, good press conference.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Pretty funny, by the way, Yeah, very very funny. How
- 3:02Speaker 1: you could tell how he was in a good mood
- 3:04Speaker 1: in that press convernce.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Was because he already made all his moves, as he said.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Right right, he was sitting back watching some teams just
- 3:11Speaker 1: completely light themselves on fire. Just a good player, I
- 3:15Speaker 1: gotta tell you.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I know you said it first to me through text,
- 3:18Speaker 2: but you know, I always want to know what personal
- 3:19Speaker 2: people say. I got to tell you, no one liked
- 3:23Speaker 2: that that trade for the cults. They understood why they
- 3:27Speaker 2: did it. And one guy told me, he goes, listen,
- 3:29Speaker 2: not only did they overpay, he goes, you realize that
- 3:32Speaker 2: they're now locked into Gander Jones. Like, that's exactly why, oh,
- 3:36Speaker 2: I said, because they don't have me too. They don't
- 3:37Speaker 2: have to once the next two years. He goes, They've
- 3:39Speaker 2: made it. They've mortgaged their future.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Right if.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Now here's the funny. They're not good opposite Sauce Gardner
- 3:46Speaker 2: because they missed it. This is what happens, guys, when
- 3:48Speaker 2: you miss on a first or second round pick that
- 3:50Speaker 2: you expect to start. This has a trickle down effect.
- 3:53Speaker 2: They missed on Juju Brant, who they cut after two years.
- 3:57Speaker 2: They had no one. Kennymore's great, but he's their nickel.
- 3:59Speaker 2: He's not Cornery's nickel. So if they didn't make a
- 4:02Speaker 2: trade for a corner, and you know, there weren't a
- 4:03Speaker 2: lot of trades for true corners, right, but through this
- 4:05Speaker 2: trade deadline, and the word around the league was the cost.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It was cost prohibitive. Well look at the Saft Gardener trade, right,
- 4:12Speaker 2: if you want to if you wanted a premier corner,
- 4:14Speaker 2: you're gonna pay out the ass. And it's just so funny.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Chris Ballad is the most conservative GM it was.
- 4:20Speaker 1: That's why I was shocked when I saw the team.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I was like, and I founded texting him, but I'd say, dude,
- 4:25Speaker 2: what he probably would have yelled at man or something,
- 4:28Speaker 2: but no, but look, he's he's going for it. I
- 4:31Speaker 2: know some people are not happy with him, but you
- 4:33Speaker 2: know what, if you want a super Bowl, it doesn't
- 4:36Speaker 2: matter what anyone else thinks. Well, they're going to make
- 4:38Speaker 2: the playoffs barring a something bad happening, like Daniel Jones
- 4:42Speaker 2: getting hurt. But you're you're he's going for it. Remember
- 4:45Speaker 2: they've been. I've called Chris Ballard like the it's like
- 4:48Speaker 2: the Jeff Fisher of GMS. He's like a five hundred.
- 4:51Speaker 2: You know, that's what they've been, right, trade mediocre. I mean,
- 4:54Speaker 2: let's right, call it like it is. But he went
- 4:58Speaker 2: for it. I give Chris. You know, he one for
- 5:00Speaker 2: with Anthony richardson World to Guys, yep, and now he's
- 5:04Speaker 2: got Daniel Jones was up until last week. Did a
- 5:06Speaker 2: good job. Yep, and we'll see.
- 5:08Speaker 1: But it was wrong. I could be wrong, but I
- 5:11Speaker 1: feel like they're going to regret it in the end.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Same thing with the Cowboy, sure, because because I don't.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I think if just like you just said, I think,
- 5:21Speaker 1: if you're gonna trade multiple first round picks, you need
- 5:25Speaker 1: to satisfy two criteria. One, you need to be really
- 5:29Speaker 1: thinking that you are a good team for not just
- 5:31Speaker 1: this year, but for many years. And usually that means
- 5:34Speaker 1: you have a French, no doubt about it, uplift all
- 5:37Speaker 1: franchise quarterback. And I can't say after eight weeks, No,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I know how well he's played, but I still can't
- 5:41Speaker 1: say Daniel Jones is that guy. And then two, I
- 5:45Speaker 1: still don't make that move unless i'm getting and I
- 5:48Speaker 1: know how good Sauce Gardner was the first two years
- 5:50Speaker 1: of his career, but that's to me, I'm not doing
- 5:52Speaker 1: it unless I'm getting a Miles Garrett pass rusher or
- 5:55Speaker 1: a left tackle like Trent Williams. I just man, again,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I only do it for a corner if I was
- 6:01Speaker 1: so awesome in every other that I.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Was right on your point. So the late Gil Brandt
- 6:06Speaker 2: told me many years ago when I got to No
- 6:07Speaker 2: Guild in the early.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Two thirty times.
- 6:10Speaker 2: We were sitting in this hotel room and he was great.
- 6:13Speaker 2: He's like, you could ask.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Me anything you want.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I said, how the hell, because you know, he was
- 6:16Speaker 2: the father of modern day scouting.
- 6:17Speaker 1: They were the late sixties.
- 6:18Speaker 2: They were the first u's IBM computers to help them,
- 6:21Speaker 2: which is crazy. But I said, how did you put
- 6:24Speaker 2: together your draft board? He goes, well, we had a
- 6:26Speaker 2: value board by position. I'm like, oh wow, really can
- 6:29Speaker 2: you explain to him?
- 6:29Speaker 1: And he said, it's.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Quarterback, left offensive tackle obviously for right handed quarterback, for
- 6:35Speaker 2: the blind side cornerback. What's third? And it's funny because
- 6:40Speaker 2: when I remember that, I remember what this guy said
- 6:43Speaker 2: to me. He goes, you don't trade two future first
- 6:46Speaker 2: round picks for a non quarterback or non left you No,
- 6:49Speaker 2: he said quarterback left tackle right or ed rusher ed
- 6:55Speaker 2: rusher right? I think, and I think Gill said it
- 6:57Speaker 2: was he had cornerback four, it was quarterback, it was
- 7:02Speaker 2: left tackle, it was it was right defensive end. Who
- 7:06Speaker 2: will go against the left tucker? Then corner that's it.
- 7:08Speaker 2: That corner four. Yep, So yeah, I agree, with you, man,
- 7:12Speaker 2: it's it's a lot. And by the way, they also
- 7:15Speaker 2: had to throw an eighty Mitchell I.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Know, top one's in a top fifty five pick. I mean,
- 7:21Speaker 1: my gosh, that's that's bad. That that's Look. Look.
- 7:25Speaker 2: I hope, I hope look, and I hope for Colt fans,
- 7:29Speaker 2: I hope saw you. Sauce has not played to the
- 7:31Speaker 2: level that he played in years past. So obviously very good,
- 7:34Speaker 2: one of the best in the league. I hope he
- 7:36Speaker 2: plays great, and I hope that Daniel just rebounds and
- 7:40Speaker 2: plays well.
- 7:41Speaker 1: But they're no sure thing. I mean, they're great at.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Safety and it crosses having a breakout season, really good
- 7:45Speaker 2: football player, good d line, offensive lines been decent. The
- 7:52Speaker 2: Tyler Warren's running for rookie year, has had a great
- 7:54Speaker 2: rookie season. Jonathan Taylor's back, my god.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, They've got a lot of pieces in places.
- 7:59Speaker 1: But I guarantee you this right. You ask if you
- 8:02Speaker 1: polled twenty NFL gms, who do they think is going
- 8:06Speaker 1: to be in the AFC Championship Game right now fifteen
- 8:10Speaker 1: sixteen seventeen, and are going to tell you either the Bills,
- 8:13Speaker 1: the Chiefs or another team before they get to the call.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I just think it would.
- 8:18Speaker 2: By the way, at looking at the uh, looking at
- 8:21Speaker 2: the books at MGM, I saw on Tuesday, how the
- 8:25Speaker 2: hell are the Chiefs stiff? Plus they have the shorter
- 8:28Speaker 2: sides plus FI fifty, they're still the favorite to it.
- 8:30Speaker 2: They're five and four?
- 8:31Speaker 1: How they How? What members privilege the national teams? What's that?
- 8:37Speaker 1: I said? Membership has its privileges?
- 8:39Speaker 2: The believable any team. I don't care, but I just
- 8:42Speaker 2: think it's absurd like it is. I guess it's it's like, hey, okay,
- 8:48Speaker 2: you think so I I we call it like we
- 8:52Speaker 2: say it. We called down the line. The Eagles right
- 8:53Speaker 2: now was just good of chances. If Jalen Phillips is
- 8:57Speaker 2: a pretty good player, I understand opposite opposite twenty problem,
- 9:03Speaker 2: A lot of mystery. This is a good team here,
- 9:06Speaker 2: Phil Eagles. They've overcome a lot of craziness of the
- 9:09Speaker 2: first eight games. Yeah, they've got just got a chance
- 9:12Speaker 2: of it, if not better than anyone to one Super Bowl.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Hey it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a family
- 9:17Speaker 1: and kids at home, like me, you always want them
- 9:20Speaker 1: to be fully protected. That's why I'm thrilled to be
- 9:22Speaker 1: a simply Safe customer, and our house is equipped with
- 9:25Speaker 1: the most technologically advanced alarm system you can get. If
- 9:29Speaker 1: you could actually stop someone from breaking into your home
- 9:31Speaker 1: before they got inside, why wouldn't you. Traditional security systems
- 9:35Speaker 1: only react after a break in, but simply Safe is
- 9:39Speaker 1: different because it stops crimes before they happen. With active
- 9:43Speaker 1: guard outdoor protection. They're AI powered cameras detect threats while
- 9:47Speaker 1: they're still outside your home, and they alert real security agents.
- 9:51Speaker 1: These agents take action while the intruder is still outside
- 9:55Speaker 1: and confront the intruder to let them know they're being
- 9:57Speaker 1: watched on camera and police is on the way. And
- 10:00Speaker 1: that's how you stop a crime before it's committed. There's
- 10:03Speaker 1: no long term contracts or hidden fees. You can cancel
- 10:06Speaker 1: any time, and it comes with a sixty day money
- 10:09Speaker 1: back guarantee. Try it and see the difference for yourself.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Do not miss out on simply Safe's biggest sale of
- 10:14Speaker 1: the year, sixty percent off. Our listeners get sixty percent
- 10:19Speaker 1: off a simply Safe home security system at simplysafe dot
- 10:23Speaker 1: com slash bird. That's simplysafe dot com slash bird. So
- 10:27Speaker 1: let's do this. I agree with that. Let's talk we've
- 10:30Speaker 1: actually got more intel on some of the guys that
- 10:32Speaker 1: we haven't yet reported, a lot more intel on the
- 10:35Speaker 1: guys that the Eagles are brought in. We'll go through that,
- 10:37Speaker 1: go through a few transactions to that happen that are
- 10:40Speaker 1: equally significant, and then at the end, just really quick,
- 10:42Speaker 1: we'll take a look at some of the other trade
- 10:44Speaker 1: deadline moves that we either thought were weird or good,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and we'll call it a day on that. So before
- 10:50Speaker 1: we do that, I just want to call attention to
- 10:53Speaker 1: one of our great interns, Nick palm Asano. I've mentioned
- 10:56Speaker 1: him before, but he's doing an excellent job not with
- 10:59Speaker 1: two things. One, he makes great social media clips for us.
- 11:01Speaker 1: If you see our Instagram, our TikTok, our YouTube shorts,
- 11:05Speaker 1: he's one of our two interns that are making great clips.
- 11:07Speaker 1: But secondly, he's been designing new overlays and graphics for
- 11:11Speaker 1: Inside the Birds, including the one people are seeing right
- 11:13Speaker 1: now if they're watching on YouTube, and we got great
- 11:15Speaker 1: feedback on it. So what I wanted to do is
- 11:18Speaker 1: let people know, I mean, Nicky's work is working is
- 11:20Speaker 1: interning for us, but he can certainly do the set.
- 11:23Speaker 1: We have a lot of content creators I know and
- 11:25Speaker 1: podcasters that listen to Inside the Birds or small business
- 11:28Speaker 1: owners who are also looking to enhance their own business
- 11:32Speaker 1: and their product with artwork or graphic design. So Nick
- 11:36Speaker 1: palm Masano is his name. I'm gonna put his information
- 11:38Speaker 1: on the screen right now for everybody to see so
- 11:42Speaker 1: you can reach out to him. He's cool with it,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and if you're looking to you know, have him do
- 11:47Speaker 1: for you or your business what he's doing for us.
- 11:50Speaker 1: We couldn't recommend anybody better. He's done a great job.
- 11:53Speaker 1: So again, Nick Palmersano, and we thank Nick for doing
- 11:55Speaker 1: an excellent job.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Job incredible responses. Obviously because you showed it to me.
- 11:59Speaker 2: I was like, wow, that's pretty cool. But our listeners
- 12:03Speaker 2: and viewers lovers with thanks.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Absolutely all right, So let's do the transactions really quickly.
- 12:09Speaker 1: They're pretty important for the Eagles. They opened up the
- 12:12Speaker 1: twenty one day practice window for Nolan Smith. That's a
- 12:15Speaker 1: pretty good sign. It means at very least he could
- 12:19Speaker 1: be available to play against the Packers Monday night. We'll
- 12:21Speaker 1: have to see how he does in practice this week. Obviously,
- 12:26Speaker 1: to a corresponding move, they released Patrick Johnson was a
- 12:30Speaker 1: little surprised by that just because he's a really good
- 12:32Speaker 1: special team here. But Adam, we did say with the
- 12:34Speaker 1: addition of Jalen Phillips, with Brandon Graham, with whose exemption
- 12:39Speaker 1: is over, and with Nolan Smith, someone they have to
- 12:41Speaker 1: give somewhere, And so obviously Patrick Johnson will go. Well
- 12:46Speaker 1: he's off the fifty three, and they released Tis Marshall
- 12:49Speaker 1: from the practice squad. You kind of wonder if that's
- 12:51Speaker 1: to make room to get Patrick Johnson back on there.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I think Patrick Stilles elevations, if I'm not mistaken, I don't.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Have that in front of me. But also, after the
- 13:03Speaker 2: trade deadline, any player that's released, even if even if
- 13:06Speaker 2: the guy's a fifteen year veteran, he goes through waivers.
- 13:09Speaker 2: It's just right the way the rule is now. Because
- 13:14Speaker 2: these these were done before the trade deadline. They were
- 13:19Speaker 2: done before Tuesday at four pmeter and that's when they
- 13:21Speaker 2: went through. He's actually not subject to waivers, so he
- 13:24Speaker 2: he literally But you know the Eagles are good about
- 13:28Speaker 2: like when they got to practice squad deal done, like
- 13:30Speaker 2: seem to announce it very quickly so they could announce
- 13:32Speaker 2: it later today.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Right, You're right, he was. His contract was terminated that
- 13:37Speaker 1: I'm sure they'll bring up.
- 13:38Speaker 2: But he did.
- 13:38Speaker 1: He did a good job. Patrick Johnson was kind of
- 13:40Speaker 1: surprising me.
- 13:40Speaker 2: I know, he he's kind of like you said before,
- 13:42Speaker 2: he's mister training camp and then he winds up not
- 13:44Speaker 2: doing much.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Did a good job. Yeah, but I mean at this point,
- 13:47Speaker 1: they have so many boys, I don't need him. Yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 1: they don't. And then also I know Andrew Decheko will
- 13:54Speaker 1: be very was very excited when this came out. But
- 13:57Speaker 1: Danny Gray is back with the Eagles right onto the
- 14:02Speaker 1: practice squad. Now, he was interesting because of all the
- 14:06Speaker 1: speed that he has, and he was one of those
- 14:08Speaker 1: guys we talked about in the off season fastest receiver
- 14:11Speaker 1: on the team has a chance. But his thing is
- 14:13Speaker 1: he can't stay healthy. And he suffered an injury at
- 14:16Speaker 1: camp and very early in camp, right it was, so
- 14:19Speaker 1: he was pretty much a non factor right away. Yeah.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I asked Andrew was a finger injury. I think he
- 14:25Speaker 2: said it was.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yes.
- 14:27Speaker 2: We Andrew and I hosted for WBCBR Pro Football Report Show.
- 14:33Speaker 2: We hosted it at Chicken Pizon Rosvel Boulevard and we
- 14:35Speaker 2: had Gary Cobb by the way, Yeah, g Cobb, by
- 14:40Speaker 2: the way, do you know that he was a big
- 14:42Speaker 2: time baseball player.
- 14:42Speaker 1: He was drafted. Yes, I didn't know that. He told
- 14:46Speaker 1: me about it. He's also from Connecticut, I know.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Yes, Stanford, right, he was born. I think his family
- 14:51Speaker 2: was from North Carolina. Yeah, he said North Carolina and
- 14:54Speaker 2: he moved to Stamford, Connecticut. And I think four of
- 14:58Speaker 2: his siblings went to Ivy League schools and his I say,
- 15:00Speaker 2: his dad want him to go to Ivy League, but
- 15:01Speaker 2: he chose USC and he was recruited to play baseball
- 15:05Speaker 2: football and uh he played. If you really follow college football,
- 15:09Speaker 2: Charles White who is an all time great running back
- 15:12Speaker 2: at USC and we we actually went for the Anthony Munio.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Is he playing with the Hall of Famer.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Let's talk the Bengals, right, Yeah, well, listen, there's another
- 15:20Speaker 1: weird fact. Not to get too off the rails about GKA,
- 15:22Speaker 1: but Stanford, Connecticut, which is not the biggest town in
- 15:25Speaker 1: the world. You've probably been there, been through at least
- 15:28Speaker 1: it's it's a good yeah. Yes, w w E NBC
- 15:33Speaker 1: Universal Studios also now Sports NBC Sports Universal, but also
- 15:39Speaker 1: some really good athletes. Steve Young is from Stanford.
- 15:42Speaker 2: He's actually from he went you know how I know
- 15:46Speaker 2: my wife went to high school with him.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Oh yeah, really was Grantwich.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah, she's a little younger than and and Trey Wingo.
- 15:52Speaker 2: My wife was at at Greenwich hid the same tray,
- 15:54Speaker 2: a little bit older, but yeah, Greenwich High.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Bobby Valentine, Yes he did.
- 16:00Speaker 2: That's right, that one I know.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, there's another one is I think Bill Romanowski
- 16:05Speaker 1: is either from Stanford or like a neighboring town, Romo, Romo. Yeah.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And then right next to Stanford is a town called
- 16:14Speaker 1: nor I mean the Norwalk, right mova on and Calvin
- 16:18Speaker 1: Murphy NBA, hallam Cookie Calvin. Okay, yeah, just like this
- 16:23Speaker 1: little pocket of canetives southwest Connecticut that's giving us some
- 16:26Speaker 1: good athletes.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Very nice, very nice. But yeah, so Dan, Yeah, Danny
- 16:31Speaker 2: Gray is back. He could run, he could Yeah. Well
- 16:35Speaker 2: look it's not like he's gonna Eagles are not a
- 16:37Speaker 2: heavy eleven personal team anyway, It's not like he he
- 16:39Speaker 2: may never be on the active roster, but is a guy.
- 16:41Speaker 2: You know what, if you could just stay healthy, he
- 16:44Speaker 2: could actually help the team someday.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 2: So Petter was released.
- 16:47Speaker 1: You know.
- 16:47Speaker 2: The one thing though, the one thing that would concern
- 16:51Speaker 2: me and you hope it never comes to passes. They
- 16:54Speaker 2: really have lacked depth, uh, terms of developmental players on
- 16:57Speaker 2: their practice squad. For linemen. Yeah, Hinton's on ir the
- 17:03Speaker 2: sixth rounder. So if you look at it right now,
- 17:06Speaker 2: and if you look at the practice squad, they got
- 17:09Speaker 2: the international player Holland Pierce, who's long ways away from truing.
- 17:13Speaker 2: He got cross trained at left tackle and guard. The
- 17:17Speaker 2: kid Jake Majors, who's a street free agent, is a center.
- 17:19Speaker 2: He's non factor. So they don't really have the guy
- 17:22Speaker 2: like they know it's in the pipeline if they could,
- 17:26Speaker 2: if they wanted to call on him. So what it
- 17:28Speaker 2: means is they still need to take a look at
- 17:30Speaker 2: find a backup center guard to put on the practice squad.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Now I get it toaf shock the world. He looked
- 17:35Speaker 2: great and we'll learn more about Cam Jurgens starting Thursday's practice.
- 17:40Speaker 2: But still would like to see a developmental interior a
- 17:43Speaker 2: lineman on the practice squad, at least a veteran in
- 17:46Speaker 2: case something happens where Toath reverts back to where he
- 17:50Speaker 2: was or Jurgons can't play for a bit. You just
- 17:52Speaker 2: you want to cover every base when you know you're
- 17:54Speaker 2: a pretty good football team.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yes, I mean the Eagles had one all last year, right,
- 17:58Speaker 1: or they never played him, or maybe I forget he
- 17:59Speaker 1: was on I R. Was the Raven Clark, remember they
- 18:01Speaker 1: had him for those reasons.
- 18:03Speaker 2: He was actually on IR Yeah he yeah, he went
- 18:06Speaker 2: on Iron. If you remember you won Iron, I think
- 18:09Speaker 2: in May of last year.
- 18:11Speaker 1: You know what, some one day I'm gonna when I
- 18:13Speaker 1: get back to really really in depth writing again, Yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I would love to write a story about injuries suffered
- 18:18Speaker 1: a practice and how debilitating. And look at look at
- 18:21Speaker 1: Travis Hunter, right, he's on I R. He suffered an
- 18:24Speaker 1: injury in practice for the Jaguars, so he's gonna be
- 18:28Speaker 1: out a couple weeks. And I remember when Namdi really
- 18:31Speaker 1: hurt his knee at a time where the Eagles needed him,
- 18:33Speaker 1: that I was there.
- 18:34Speaker 2: In extended it in practice. He I mean, because the
- 18:38Speaker 2: prom is when they they when you don't when you
- 18:42Speaker 2: when you see it, when it's a knee.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Injury, you're like, oh no, yeah, And.
- 18:47Speaker 2: They got very lucky. I know he want him not playing, well,
- 18:50Speaker 2: I get that, but yeah, yeah, it wan ill be in.
- 18:53Speaker 1: A hyper extent. Did he play the next week? He did?
- 18:56Speaker 1: He did play? He didn't play very well, but he
- 18:58Speaker 1: wasn't play well to begin with. But I swear there's
- 19:00Speaker 1: probably nothing that more bothers a coach, Right when a
- 19:04Speaker 1: player gets hurt in practice because you're not supposed to
- 19:09Speaker 1: have contact, it's incidental. Like I remember being at a
- 19:13Speaker 1: practice once where Carrie Williams tackled Riley Cooper to the
- 19:17Speaker 1: ground and they almost got into a fight because of it,
- 19:19Speaker 1: and the whole thing was, you're not supposed to be
- 19:21Speaker 1: doing that at practice. Yeah. Yeah, well and it was
- 19:24Speaker 1: an accident or you know how Carrie was. You got
- 19:27Speaker 1: a little carried away, no pun intended, and uh yeah,
- 19:30Speaker 1: brought him down. But yeah, people get really mad and upset.
- 19:34Speaker 1: But when you lose a player, a starter, like someone
- 19:38Speaker 1: like Travis Hunter because of a practice injury, that's just
- 19:40Speaker 1: kinda suck.
- 19:41Speaker 2: The Charles Bentley okay, I should have been an Eagle,
- 19:44Speaker 2: But when the Charles Bentley got hurt with Cleveland, was
- 19:49Speaker 2: that was that in a OTA practic first OTA practice?
- 19:53Speaker 1: I think it was because training camp practice is different.
- 19:56Speaker 1: There there's contact that allowed. Ot is You're right, sad,
- 20:01Speaker 1: so sad? Yep.
- 20:02Speaker 2: You know this is your big free free agent signing
- 20:05Speaker 2: and it's the Browns curse man, because that's what the
- 20:08Speaker 2: fans will bring up. They're so cursed, you know. But
- 20:11Speaker 2: getting back to reality, so yes, so Sue Peta, Yeah,
- 20:14Speaker 2: he may come back. The good thing though Noland Smith. Look,
- 20:18Speaker 2: he could if if they think he looks good in practice.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Remember now though he had the triceps surgery, then he
- 20:24Speaker 2: then he strained it. He is, he's a tressp strain.
- 20:28Speaker 2: So he's gotta be right now. The question we're going
- 20:31Speaker 2: to get into this, this is the purpose of the show,
- 20:33Speaker 2: is we haven't really talked about any of this stuff.
- 20:36Speaker 2: What's it going to look like going forward from a
- 20:39Speaker 2: conceptual standpoint? Rotations? You know, Vic doesn't like rotating a
- 20:43Speaker 2: lot of guys. They have a lot of guys now
- 20:44Speaker 2: at Edge because Nolan got hurt and Jalok Hunt's coming
- 20:49Speaker 2: on here and they just trained for Jalen Phillips. He
- 20:51Speaker 2: get his job back, starting job back.
- 20:53Speaker 1: That is that's it's a question, right, all right, So
- 20:56Speaker 1: let's talk about these guys in some of the new
- 20:58Speaker 1: intel that we have. It's it's a it's a good deal.
- 21:01Speaker 1: You know. I purposely asked around some people in the
- 21:04Speaker 1: league about Jalen Phillips specifically how his skill set might
- 21:07Speaker 1: compare to what the Eagles already have. And one guy
- 21:11Speaker 1: spoke to who was very knowledgeable on Jalen Phillips said
- 21:14Speaker 1: and also knowledgeable about what the Eagles have at him,
- 21:16Speaker 1: made it a point to say, and this is something
- 21:18Speaker 1: we actually talked about a couple of weeks ago when
- 21:20Speaker 1: Zaderias Smith retired, that he gives them a lot more
- 21:25Speaker 1: bulk and length at the edge. And wait, he's he's
- 21:28Speaker 1: a two sixty five guy. I mean that's that's big
- 21:30Speaker 1: for what the Eagles have on the edge. And he
- 21:32Speaker 1: told me fell Jillen was a way better point of
- 21:35Speaker 1: attack type player than Jelex Hunt who's still learning and
- 21:40Speaker 1: Nolan Smith. Nolan Smith is a good point of attack player.
- 21:43Speaker 1: You've seen him take on pulling guards. I mean he
- 21:44Speaker 1: gets his body going, but he's a light point of
- 21:48Speaker 1: attack player, whereas Jialen Phillips a bigger, stronger guy. So
- 21:52Speaker 1: he helps them not only with the pass rush, but
- 21:54Speaker 1: we talked about their lightness on the edges and that's
- 21:57Speaker 1: not as much of an issue now without Zadarius Smith,
- 22:00Speaker 1: but with jahn Phillips, Yeah.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Because he's just down sixty five, but he's over to sixty.
- 22:08Speaker 2: He's a big dude. Instead of saying in the inside
- 22:12Speaker 2: the tape show that the bonus show that we did
- 22:14Speaker 2: with Greg, three of us, you know, I said, look,
- 22:17Speaker 2: he's a if you said the prototype, give me what
- 22:20Speaker 2: you if you said chisel guy, a thirty four edge, right,
- 22:26Speaker 2: what you want him to look like? Because you could
- 22:28Speaker 2: play him down the box, you can stand him up,
- 22:30Speaker 2: you can play him inside nickel, which he's done, or
- 22:33Speaker 2: play him with him in the dirt. It's this dude,
- 22:37Speaker 2: and it's such a shame. I mean, think about he
- 22:39Speaker 2: was he did miss a game his first two years.
- 22:42Speaker 2: He looked like he was going to be that guy.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Two major injuries. But he looks healthy based on what
- 22:48Speaker 2: we've told and Greg talked about it, but we heard
- 22:50Speaker 2: it from separately from people. Looks pretty good. Not quite
- 22:53Speaker 2: where he was. Obviously he's getting there. And so here's
- 22:57Speaker 2: the question. Okay, because Usha did a good job, actually
- 23:03Speaker 2: how he's free agent? Signs weren't great this year, but
- 23:05Speaker 2: this guy has looked good. You know, we wait questions.
- 23:08Speaker 2: He still can Play's big is on the roster now
- 23:11Speaker 2: he got reinstated off the exemption. They got a lot
- 23:15Speaker 2: of guys here. And but here's the thing with Jalx Hunt.
- 23:19Speaker 2: You don't want to stunt his progress, right, It's look nol.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Smith does not deserve you just don't pencil him in
- 23:28Speaker 2: over Phillips or Hunt. He got hurt, it's been out
- 23:31Speaker 2: a while.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Well, I think the whole the whole idea is Phillips
- 23:35Speaker 1: has been hurt a lot. Right, Hunt's healthy. Rather, he's
- 23:38Speaker 1: healthy Hunt. You can do a nice job of rotating
- 23:43Speaker 1: guys in to keep him fresh year. Yes, no one,
- 23:46Speaker 1: no one of these three guys is making like thirty
- 23:49Speaker 1: million a year where you feel the pressure or play
- 23:52Speaker 1: them all so you can. And Vic doesn't give a
- 23:53Speaker 1: crap about of that anyway, I know.
- 23:55Speaker 2: But he doesn't do what good. What Schwartzy did is
- 23:59Speaker 2: Schwartzy love. He loved it. Rotate four or five guys.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Yeah, you're Vick is more about three guys.
- 24:04Speaker 2: That's the which surprised me. Most coaches don't see it
- 24:08Speaker 2: like Vic. Of course, Vick is brilliant. We're not We're
- 24:10Speaker 2: not criticizing him. We're just questioning. As you said, you
- 24:14Speaker 2: got Phillips, you got Hunt. Smith's going to be back
- 24:17Speaker 2: soon unless he has a setback. BG they got to
- 24:20Speaker 2: see yet, Yes, he's right. Yeah, they got a lot
- 24:24Speaker 2: of guys.
- 24:24Speaker 1: This is a great thing. But I'm with you. It's
- 24:28Speaker 1: it's interesting to see how he's going to figure out
- 24:30Speaker 1: that snapshare there.
- 24:31Speaker 2: He hasn't had this problem, but you know, it's a
- 24:33Speaker 2: good problem to have. But now, of course practice tells
- 24:36Speaker 2: you everything. How do they look, Yes, Phillips does the system.
- 24:40Speaker 2: He played in it, but that was two years ago.
- 24:42Speaker 2: They got to just see because they know what the
- 24:45Speaker 2: tape look like from Miami. But he's got to get
- 24:47Speaker 2: himself back into the VIC system. He played it for
- 24:50Speaker 2: short a shortened season. You're certainly not going to see
- 24:55Speaker 2: Campbell at all on the edge. That's over any possibility
- 24:59Speaker 2: of it is done.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 25:01Speaker 2: So it's it's fascinating to see what happened. I understand,
- 25:06Speaker 2: you know, we we we were right because that was
- 25:08Speaker 2: the case until a week ago. Last game, Hunt clearly
- 25:11Speaker 2: was not ready. It seemed like he jump a step
- 25:14Speaker 2: with Hunt. We didn't see it in training camp, we
- 25:16Speaker 2: didn't see it for the five or six first five
- 25:18Speaker 2: or six games as an intrusher. But he looks so
- 25:20Speaker 2: much better in that last game. We're like, whoa Okay,
- 25:25Speaker 2: let's go keep it going. And now you got you
- 25:27Speaker 2: got Smith coming back, who's on the other side, And
- 25:30Speaker 2: you got Phillips. Now it's it's it's it's And then
- 25:33Speaker 2: you've got Beg. Sorry, you got BG here. Not that
- 25:36Speaker 2: he play a lot anyway, but it's this is a
- 25:39Speaker 2: big talk between Vic and Howie.
- 25:40Speaker 1: How about how he said, Oh wow, I had a
- 25:47Speaker 1: good conversation with Vic. How about that our coach Frians
- 25:49Speaker 1: you well, what he talked about is had a minuscule
- 25:56Speaker 1: impact and how yes, right.
- 25:58Speaker 2: And because look, Vic is prickly. Vic talked about I
- 26:04Speaker 2: don't know the first couple of months he got here
- 26:05Speaker 2: about yeah, he's had issues with front offices because he
- 26:08Speaker 2: had he speaks his mind.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's okay.
- 26:10Speaker 2: I mean, look, they have a healthy respect. Howie and
- 26:13Speaker 2: Vick were pretty they got pretty tight when Vic would
- 26:16Speaker 2: visit the team, you know, before he came here, when
- 26:19Speaker 2: he was just you know, he fired, and he was
- 26:20Speaker 2: you know, he lives in the area, so he'd stop by.
- 26:23Speaker 2: But uh, and then remember the oddness of what we
- 26:25Speaker 2: saw him in Mia. What did we see him in Miami?
- 26:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, he just showed up, Like what's that about? Well,
- 26:32Speaker 1: that's so weird because then he wound up the next
- 26:34Speaker 1: year being the Dolphins in Miami. At that time he
- 26:37Speaker 1: was still kind of like helping out the Eagles. It
- 26:39Speaker 1: was just just fun.
- 26:40Speaker 2: So Jeff and I are at the joint practices and
- 26:42Speaker 2: you know, we're standing, you know, it's godly, it's so
- 26:46Speaker 2: so human, so hot, and we're like, what is Vic
- 26:49Speaker 2: Fangil walking by me?
- 26:50Speaker 1: Front?
- 26:52Speaker 2: But why did he was he here?
- 26:54Speaker 1: Right?
- 26:54Speaker 2: What's I don't know. I mean we're thinking, like as
- 26:56Speaker 2: like a beach house in Miami, Like, no, he doesn't,
- 26:59Speaker 2: he's talking. He's just friends with the Eagles. Like it's okay,
- 27:02Speaker 2: He's allowed to do that. But I just thought it
- 27:04Speaker 2: was odd. And then, as you said, when I'm working
- 27:06Speaker 2: for the fun.
- 27:08Speaker 1: It was very funny, all right. So so that the
- 27:12Speaker 1: last thing on Phillips is that in Miami he did
- 27:14Speaker 1: play quite a bit inside. You know, they would bring
- 27:17Speaker 1: Top Robinson and ub outside, but I you know, we
- 27:21Speaker 1: haven't seen Vic do that a whole lot of that
- 27:23Speaker 1: with Edges. Now, he might be used more in the
- 27:26Speaker 1: twist and stunt game, which the Eagles are starting to
- 27:28Speaker 1: incorporate a little bit more. But we'll have to see.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I mean, it is another way to get all those
- 27:34Speaker 1: ends that we were talking about on the field. But
- 27:37Speaker 1: you don't really need to take a Joemo off the
- 27:38Speaker 1: field or Jill and Carter off the field because they're
- 27:41Speaker 1: they're good players. So it's just just something that is
- 27:44Speaker 1: at Vick's disposal if the if he wants to use
- 27:47Speaker 1: a package that nobody has seen yet before.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Sure, it's funny because I remember we were saying last week,
- 27:52Speaker 2: this is before all the fireworks, you know, this is before.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Well we we knew BG.
- 27:57Speaker 2: But again, he's still gonna be limited terms of how
- 28:00Speaker 2: many snaps he gets. But we didn't know about Phillips.
- 28:02Speaker 2: We knew they were looking, they were going to get
- 28:04Speaker 2: an edge, we just didn't know who's going to be yet.
- 28:06Speaker 2: So they got Phillips. Nolan Smith now is coming back
- 28:10Speaker 2: soon barring a setback, and you don't you could just
- 28:14Speaker 2: you don't have to move. You can do it, but
- 28:16Speaker 2: you don't have to move anyone to the outside from
- 28:18Speaker 2: the interior because now they have so many guys now
- 28:21Speaker 2: to finish this part off, they gave up a third
- 28:25Speaker 2: for Phillips. Again, that is a starter round. That's the
- 28:27Speaker 2: last starter round of drift like. First round is a
- 28:30Speaker 2: high end starter. Second round is a an above average starter.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Third round is a lower tier starter. Fourth round is
- 28:37Speaker 2: a high end it high end back up lower very
- 28:40Speaker 2: low like like below average starter. Right, but that's the
- 28:46Speaker 2: start around they give. They get up a third I
- 28:47Speaker 2: get it. It could be the thirty second pick, doesn't matter.
- 28:49Speaker 2: It's a third round, right, So he's got to start like.
- 28:52Speaker 1: That's just the way I say.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Oh, okay, Now, the question is that is Nolan Smith's side,
- 29:01Speaker 2: assuming it is good? Point that point, that's what you
- 29:06Speaker 2: gotta talk like. That's the discussion between Halie and Vic
- 29:10Speaker 2: and Jeremi Washburn the interature coach like they and Vic
- 29:14Speaker 2: coached them two years ago, so you know what to expect.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Plus, even if you wanted to move Smith over the
- 29:21Speaker 1: other side and then just bring Hunt off the bench,
- 29:23Speaker 1: that's that That is the side that would expose the
- 29:28Speaker 1: triceeps more. They're they weren't they keeping him over left
- 29:32Speaker 1: to keep the right triceeps on the outside and that Yeah,
- 29:34Speaker 1: so if you put them over right tackle on his
- 29:36Speaker 1: right triceps on the inside, then he's gotta that's his
- 29:39Speaker 1: punch hand and then you risk you know, react more
- 29:42Speaker 1: more contact to it. So now that's not just something
- 29:44Speaker 1: to add to the conversation where they went.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Plus and again, Phillips can play inside and Nickel. That's
- 29:50Speaker 2: very valuable the BG role obviously, we've seen him do
- 29:53Speaker 2: it in the past very very well.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Yeah, so that the good.
- 29:57Speaker 2: The cool thing is if everybody healthy and looking right,
- 30:01Speaker 2: teams would die to have this kind of depth at
- 30:03Speaker 2: edge and it could be pretty good. We're not there
- 30:07Speaker 2: yet because they got to show it first. But the
- 30:10Speaker 2: two things we talked about in their June camp is like, boy,
- 30:13Speaker 2: they're not they don't have. They just they have. They're
- 30:16Speaker 2: just not good enough of out. It's very clear, and
- 30:18Speaker 2: they turned out to be right. It's just they how
- 30:23Speaker 2: acknowledged it. He brought. He talked Beg out of retirement.
- 30:26Speaker 2: He traded for Jalen Phillips. There's your hands.

- 31:55Speaker 1: promo code birds for thirty percent off. Let's move on
- 31:59Speaker 1: to the the two defensive backs, obviously Michael Carter the
- 32:02Speaker 1: second and Jay Alexander man Cosell for any Ofbud who've
- 32:07Speaker 1: heard either him doing inside the tape or even our
- 32:12Speaker 1: Patreon members who had a great Q and A session
- 32:15Speaker 1: with him on Tuesday and asked Greg Cosel, he's much more.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I guess bought into the idea that Jay R. Alexander
- 32:22Speaker 1: can be a starter for the Eagles and really help them,
- 32:24Speaker 1: then I am. I mean, I I can't get past
- 32:28Speaker 1: the whole idea that on a very bad Ravens defense,
- 32:31Speaker 1: he wasn't playing because they didn't want to play him,
- 32:33Speaker 1: and and it wasn't because he was on the injury
- 32:34Speaker 1: report the last few weeks either, right, and I think
- 32:36Speaker 1: he was he was healthy, he could have.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Played healthy, they were down three players, I wouldn't play him.
- 32:42Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I'm not making this up.
- 32:43Speaker 2: This is a fact now I do.
- 32:47Speaker 1: It's saying, right, his talent at one point would make
- 32:50Speaker 1: him easily but that's not who they have. So I I, well,
- 32:55Speaker 1: don't the Eagles see they obviously maybe Christian Parker who
- 33:01Speaker 1: was He didn't coach him.
- 33:02Speaker 2: He was he was a quality defensive quality control with
- 33:05Speaker 2: Green Bay. But he knows him. Maybe Parker was. Maybe
- 33:08Speaker 2: he's friends with him, Mabe, he stayed in touch with
- 33:09Speaker 2: Maybe he knew he just need to get out of Baltimore.
- 33:12Speaker 2: They didn't like whatever the case may be.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I just can't believe.
- 33:15Speaker 2: How would make a trade for a guy who was
- 33:17Speaker 2: bench because he couldn't play. Yeah, it's not a problem
- 33:20Speaker 2: that maybe maybe maybe his knees better. Who knows. He
- 33:23Speaker 2: had to have some intel.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Right, Well, he did say he mentioned and I and
- 33:28Speaker 1: I kind of not circled it, but I put in
- 33:31Speaker 1: my mind he and DaCosta from the Ravens have a
- 33:34Speaker 1: good relationship. It goes back to the fact that he
- 33:36Speaker 1: had a great relationship with OZZIEK. Newsom.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Their houses are like nextors by the way.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Yeah, they have houses right next to each other in
- 33:43Speaker 1: uh in Florida on the Panhandle. So in fact, I
- 33:46Speaker 1: think Howie has said that the Tim Jernigan trade got
- 33:48Speaker 1: executed while both of them were basically on the beach.
- 33:52Speaker 1: He's always had a good relationship with the Ravens, and
- 33:55Speaker 1: he said he had good honest conversations with the Ravens.
- 33:58Speaker 1: So I'm not saying that the Ravens spoke glowingly, because
- 34:01Speaker 1: if the Ravens spoke glowingly of Alexander, they'd be playing
- 34:05Speaker 1: them right now. But there may be there was something
- 34:09Speaker 1: said like this guy needs like five more weeks conditioning.
- 34:11Speaker 1: I don't know. And so again I don't even consider
- 34:14Speaker 1: it a treat because they didn't give anything. They didn't
- 34:16Speaker 1: give up anything. They they got a pick and gave
- 34:18Speaker 1: up a pick, right, I mean, we're talking about what
- 34:21Speaker 1: maybe like ten slots in the draft. I have no
- 34:24Speaker 1: idea what it's going to wind up being. It was,
- 34:26Speaker 1: and it was, it was like a nothing. So they're
- 34:29Speaker 1: just throwing a dart. But again, I always thought that
- 34:33Speaker 1: at any movie you're gonna make at this point should
- 34:35Speaker 1: be specifically designed to make your team better, not hope
- 34:38Speaker 1: to make your team better. So because Howie Rosman always
- 34:41Speaker 1: says hope, it's not a strategy.
- 34:42Speaker 2: But I love that one. Yes, but this is.
- 34:45Speaker 1: What But this is you know, Greg thinks that there
- 34:48Speaker 1: might be something there.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Well, here's and we grilled them Greg when we did
- 34:53Speaker 2: the Inside the Tape show, the Bonus Show.
- 34:56Speaker 1: He meant.
- 34:57Speaker 2: He said it like Man Arizona didn't matter. He was
- 34:59Speaker 2: great whenever they and play man A or zone. Yeah,
- 35:02Speaker 2: he was elite. He's just over, he's just he's just
- 35:04Speaker 2: under five to ten. But then you've got the maturity issue,
- 35:08Speaker 2: the strangeness thing. I've never seen this in twenty seven
- 35:11Speaker 2: years cover this business.
- 35:13Speaker 1: The guy.
- 35:13Speaker 2: The guy does something you're not supposed to be. He
- 35:15Speaker 2: decides he's going to be team captain without telling the team. Yeah,
- 35:21Speaker 2: I mean Mountain, the floor was so mad. He just
- 35:24Speaker 2: didn't know what to say when it happens. I remember
- 35:27Speaker 2: watching his post game press conference. He was incredulous. He's
- 35:31Speaker 2: just this can't happen. And he's we're going to deal
- 35:33Speaker 2: with it tomorrow, you know whatever he got.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Yeah, but ye. Anyway, how he didn't hide the fact
- 35:39Speaker 1: that it was a dart throw. By the way, he
- 35:40Speaker 1: said it twice, he said it to him versus Ward.
- 35:42Speaker 1: He said, good for him. He didn't.
- 35:44Speaker 2: He he didn't avoid it. It wasn't like how it
- 35:46Speaker 2: was his first how twenty ten first years of a gym.
- 35:49Speaker 1: He didn't.
- 35:49Speaker 2: He didn't avoid it. He knows it's the.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Throwing dark excuse, like, let's put it this way.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Let's say he's healthy, right, because he clearly there was
- 35:59Speaker 2: something wrong with him.
- 36:00Speaker 1: The Ravens, they.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Wouldn't play it. Yeah, but let's let's say he's healthy.
- 36:04Speaker 2: They're going to know him practice, yep, do you? I
- 36:09Speaker 2: know this is subjective, but if he's just average, he
- 36:15Speaker 2: may be better than what they have.
- 36:18Speaker 1: You know, I'm still of the mindset that they brought
- 36:20Speaker 1: to Corey and Bennett in for a reason, and they
- 36:22Speaker 1: would he had great speed and quickness and played decent
- 36:26Speaker 1: level and is you know, as long as he's healthy,
- 36:28Speaker 1: it's not like he had lower leg ind like knee
- 36:31Speaker 1: and ankle inje or something that would make you maybe, yeah,
- 36:35Speaker 1: pactoral injury, which you know that happens. You can come
- 36:37Speaker 1: back from that and be fine.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you gotta get it right, but god.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Right, No, the thing you'd worry about is reaggravation of
- 36:44Speaker 1: those shoulder. But as far as athleticism, he should be fine.
- 36:48Speaker 1: So I would like to think that he gets some
- 36:50Speaker 1: kind of look here if he can, unless they've just
- 36:53Speaker 1: already seen in the I don't know it's well to get.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Him into practice. But here's the problem. He never got
- 36:57Speaker 2: the defense right. If you remember he capped, they gave
- 37:01Speaker 2: him a shot and they pulled him more than once.
- 37:03Speaker 2: So I it's a real quagmire. Opposite opposite Quinnon, but
- 37:10Speaker 2: right now here, Okay, So here's what it looks like.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Talk about a a a mashup. You got a Dory
- 37:16Speaker 2: Jackson coming from the back from the concussion. We'll see
- 37:19Speaker 2: if he gets cleared this week macmgwens. As we said,
- 37:21Speaker 2: the lecture does not factor it anywhere. He's just he
- 37:24Speaker 2: may not dress the rest of the season. He's just
- 37:25Speaker 2: not going to contribute the season. So opposite Mitchell, it's
- 37:30Speaker 2: jack Well, when we say that, we got to see
- 37:33Speaker 2: who's because Alexander's added to this. But the cornerbacks now
- 37:38Speaker 2: are Quinnon, Mitchell, jay R, Alexander Ringo, Droy Jackson, Coop
- 37:46Speaker 2: if they need him to because they have now enough
- 37:49Speaker 2: corners and I didn't say they're good enough. But the embodies,
- 37:53Speaker 2: they're gonna have to have what we call and they
- 37:55Speaker 2: I know coaches hate doing this because you and I
- 37:57Speaker 2: have talked about before. The coaches hate this, but they're
- 37:59Speaker 2: gonna have to have a practice competition. It's basically what
- 38:01Speaker 2: the tape looks like in practice, right Alexander's new I
- 38:04Speaker 2: haven't seen him. Bennett's still not on the roster. He's
- 38:08Speaker 2: he's but he's the last guy here.
- 38:11Speaker 1: So it's Quinnie.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Well, the total the total cornerback group left, the right
- 38:15Speaker 2: corner shirt, Mitchell, Alexander, Ringo, Jackson, Coop if you need him,
- 38:21Speaker 2: and Bennett. The problem is you haven't seen Bennett. I
- 38:25Speaker 2: mean he hadn't played in since what week three?
- 38:28Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, rams, So.
- 38:33Speaker 2: It's just there's a lot of uncertainty. And look, Eagles
- 38:36Speaker 2: know where Bennett's at from his rehab and he did
- 38:38Speaker 2: practice before the bye. But it's just it's you have
- 38:43Speaker 2: a lot of guys, but you don't know what you have.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Yeah, what's that expression? If you got two quarterbacks, you
- 38:48Speaker 1: don't have any quarterbacks. If you've got five second cornerbacks,
- 38:51Speaker 1: you don't have any second corner.
- 38:52Speaker 2: That's they have five.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:54Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, it's not good. But their hope is
- 38:58Speaker 2: because that was what they're hope, and hope was with
- 39:01Speaker 2: Jackson and Ringo one would merge and it never happened.
- 39:05Speaker 1: I was told that hope is not a strategy.
- 39:08Speaker 2: But that's what I don't know how much confidence they
- 39:13Speaker 2: had because you know that the reporters were grew were
- 39:15Speaker 2: you were, there were reporters like simply anytime Vic talk,
- 39:18Speaker 2: they kept asking about Ringo Jackson. Okay, who's ahead? You know,
- 39:21Speaker 2: how they're doing? And he'd say, well, I'd like to
- 39:24Speaker 2: know by a certain date, and you know, blah blah blah,
- 39:25Speaker 2: and they just were They wouldn't know untill it was
- 39:28Speaker 2: obvious thought that Jackson performed well, but Ringo was so
- 39:31Speaker 2: far behind him, and training camp is like, okay, by
- 39:33Speaker 2: the fault, Jackson's going to start week one, what else
- 39:36Speaker 2: can you do? And here we are in week ten
- 39:41Speaker 2: and Alexander now has a chance because they had to
- 39:44Speaker 2: turn to transactions. Always tell you, well, they're not happy
- 39:47Speaker 2: with what they have, so they had to trade for Alexander,
- 39:49Speaker 2: who's a Darth.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Throw, Yeah, Darth throw extraordinary. Carter Carter, you know, the
- 39:56Speaker 1: word I got is that people think he's small, so
- 39:58Speaker 1: he can only play the slot, which is we know
- 40:00Speaker 1: that we we've talked about that he is not going to
- 40:02Speaker 1: play outside. He's not in that mix that we just mentioned,
- 40:05Speaker 1: Thank god, by the way, because who could do? Who could?
- 40:07Speaker 1: Who wants to add another cornerback to that mix of
- 40:09Speaker 1: guys who are who are struggling to hold down that position.
- 40:12Speaker 2: But he he's a well bill sort of. He's built
- 40:16Speaker 2: like safety, right, he's not the reason why. Talking to
- 40:18Speaker 2: the Jets about him when they drafted him, they yes,
- 40:21Speaker 2: they knew his tape showed he played safety. They didn't
- 40:23Speaker 2: see him as a safety, right, They thought he moved well,
- 40:27Speaker 2: but he was built like a He's a little bigger
- 40:31Speaker 2: than Avonte Maddox. He didn't run as well as Mannox,
- 40:35Speaker 2: but he was built like a safety. They moved in
- 40:37Speaker 2: the safety to Nickel dominant Nicole immediately. Smart guy picked
- 40:42Speaker 2: everything up, did everything they asked, got the extension, and
- 40:45Speaker 2: then the bottom fell out, you know, and he needs
- 40:49Speaker 2: a change of scenery. He just and I'm sure he's
- 40:52Speaker 2: loving this. He's got a chance to win a Super Bowl.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Make my goodness. You got all that, You've got your
- 40:56Speaker 2: extension done. Then you get benched and you get traded
- 40:58Speaker 2: to maybe the best team in foot ball. Does it
- 41:01Speaker 2: get much better than that?
- 41:02Speaker 1: No, it's pretty good. Even Jayalen Phillips was so happy
- 41:04Speaker 1: to be here. I saw he ran into our guy
- 41:06Speaker 1: John Clark in the airport. Airport already yelling like go
- 41:09Speaker 1: birds and all that. So John did he say that, Yeah,
- 41:12Speaker 1: he was. He was pretty happy they are. I could
- 41:15Speaker 1: see I can see Vic playing if he wants to,
- 41:19Speaker 1: some big nickel. If Carter really adjunts easily into the
- 41:23Speaker 1: it hasn't done it here, but.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he's done it, I think at Denver.
- 41:27Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, he did do it in Denver. Right,
- 41:30Speaker 1: all right, So so that's it. That's those three guys
- 41:33Speaker 1: and the roles that we expect for them. Let's just
- 41:36Speaker 1: finish this off real quick.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Real quick, So so real quick. Carter's going to, as
- 41:39Speaker 2: we noted last week, He's gonna be crosstrated safety. Not
- 41:41Speaker 2: we didn't know about the Marcus EPs injury until he
- 41:43Speaker 2: went on I are that was kind of a mystery injury.
- 41:46Speaker 2: So right now, so Carter, if they need him to be,
- 41:50Speaker 2: it's Macouba, it's Black and Chip at Sydney Brown and
- 41:52Speaker 2: then Carter be the for safety. The backup nickel will
- 41:55Speaker 2: also be Carter. I'm still it's obvious practice related and
- 42:01Speaker 2: Vic's not happy with the way Williams practices because he
- 42:03Speaker 2: didn't play.
- 42:04Speaker 1: They didn't. He doesn't contribute at all, right, so.
- 42:09Speaker 2: Even to give like like two steps off he doesn't.
- 42:12Speaker 2: He doesn't really dress. So yeah, that's it. I mean,
- 42:16Speaker 2: those are that's that's the that's where it's at right now.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Yeah, and that we wouldn't surprise me if by a
- 42:21Speaker 1: few weeks into this thing, if if if we're talking
- 42:23Speaker 1: about the safety pecking order, if Carter wasn't the number
- 42:26Speaker 1: three safety ahead of oh, if one of the true
- 42:29Speaker 1: safeties got hurt, I could see Carter going in way
- 42:31Speaker 1: before Sydney Brown goes in.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Seeing Brown's averaging seven snaps on defensive game and and
- 42:36Speaker 2: and part of that's him blowouts. So that tells you, now,
- 42:39Speaker 2: I get it. They a lot of teams like the Eagles,
- 42:41Speaker 2: don't take their safeties off the field for various reasons.
- 42:44Speaker 2: But the fact of the matter is since Vic Fanger's
- 42:47Speaker 2: been here, Brown has been a non factor other than
- 42:49Speaker 2: special teams.
- 42:49Speaker 1: So that's that's the factor. That's a fact. You know,
- 42:52Speaker 1: it is worth just the facts, man. Yep, Hey, Philly fans.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Game day is stressful enough, parking traff, long lines, We've
- 43:01Speaker 1: all been there. But when it comes to your cannabis,

- 43:45Speaker 1: service members, and healthcare pros. Cam Den Apothecary top quality cannabis,
- 43:51Speaker 1: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans. Twenty
- 43:54Speaker 1: one and up. Trade Deadline. Look the Cowboys, I think
- 43:59Speaker 1: I think they're misc man like. It's not that the
- 44:02Speaker 1: kid's not a great player, Quinn Williams, but you know
- 44:05Speaker 1: they're acting like a team that was Quinn Williams away
- 44:07Speaker 1: from winning the Super Bowl to give up a first
- 44:09Speaker 1: round pick and a second round pick, and I can't
- 44:12Speaker 1: get past the idea that, like, you traded for a
- 44:14Speaker 1: guy who's already in his second contract, so at most
- 44:19Speaker 1: I think he's like twenty seven, twenty six, twenty seven,
- 44:21Speaker 1: like you're hoping for. You're probably gonna get three to four,
- 44:24Speaker 1: maybe even five really good years of Quinn Williams, which
- 44:27Speaker 1: is nice, but this year's a wash. Like you're not
- 44:30Speaker 1: making the super Bowl this year. I know they don't
- 44:32Speaker 1: think that way, but normal human beings think differently than
- 44:35Speaker 1: Jerry Jones. They're not making the super.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Bowl three five one.
- 44:38Speaker 1: So it all starts next year. So now you're already
- 44:40Speaker 1: on tw twenty twenty six with his with his contract
- 44:43Speaker 1: and his age, and like, compare that to what you
- 44:46Speaker 1: expect when you draft in the first round a mid
- 44:48Speaker 1: round pick, and the Cowboys are pretty good with their
- 44:51Speaker 1: first round drafting. You're expecting seven, you know, at least
- 44:54Speaker 1: four years and a contract extension after three. You want seven, eight,
- 44:57Speaker 1: maybe even nine good years out of a first round pick,
- 45:00Speaker 1: which you've now sacrificed to get three to five good
- 45:05Speaker 1: years out of Quinnon Williams. And then you also gave
- 45:08Speaker 1: a second round pick on top of that. Like you're
- 45:12Speaker 1: the Cowboys, you have a losing record, you have your
- 45:15Speaker 1: three games behind the Eagles already, save your assets. The
- 45:19Speaker 1: smart thing to do would have been to save your assets,
- 45:21Speaker 1: not to mention that your quarterback is injury prone, has
- 45:25Speaker 1: a very high contract and is not young either, like
- 45:28Speaker 1: you might need a quarterback actually two years from now,
- 45:31Speaker 1: Like what are you well?
- 45:32Speaker 2: They can't develop backup court of us. Cooper Rush completely
- 45:35Speaker 2: cratered last year, and boy, the Ravens totally regret that signing.
- 45:37Speaker 1: He ready got bashed. I know, I was surprised too.
- 45:40Speaker 1: I thought he would at least keep them on schedule.
- 45:42Speaker 1: He did not.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Well, he showed. I remember we had Paul Gunther on
- 45:45Speaker 2: the Who's Now at UNLV. Paul told me he goes
- 45:47Speaker 2: they when Paul was with Mike Zimmer with the Vikings,
- 45:50Speaker 2: Cooper Rush Tom apart, you know, yeah, and then he
- 45:52Speaker 2: just completely regretts. But yeah, Dallas, look this is again, folks.
- 45:59Speaker 2: When you miss on a PI, you have to cover
- 46:01Speaker 2: it up with a trade. They missed badly on Massie Smith.
- 46:05Speaker 1: What do they do?
- 46:06Speaker 2: They traded for Kenny Clark hadn't been has been much
- 46:09Speaker 2: of an impact. Then they overdo it with Quinn Williams.
- 46:12Speaker 1: That's what happened, and then they had to trade their
- 46:14Speaker 1: best player to do those trades, right, they had to
- 46:17Speaker 1: trade Mike.
- 46:18Speaker 2: Player Michael Parkson's over to take a step back, and.
- 46:22Speaker 1: They're just yeah.
- 46:25Speaker 2: And by the way, also, the other problem that other
- 46:27Speaker 2: teams tell us about Dallas is they draft a lot
- 46:29Speaker 2: of questionable character players that are in there into the
- 46:33Speaker 2: stats and into their own things. Yeah, they're talented, but
- 46:36Speaker 2: when it push comes to show that they're not cohesive.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Right, there's just there's something.
- 46:40Speaker 2: It's it's why can't Dallas be good again?
- 46:42Speaker 1: Like it's been?
- 46:43Speaker 2: Why haven't they got back to the super Bowl in
- 46:45Speaker 2: nearly thirty years. There's a reason for it. Yeah, they
- 46:48Speaker 2: drift a lot of flash and not a lot of
- 46:49Speaker 2: team guys. And that's right, that's why the Eagles are
- 46:52Speaker 2: just so much better than them.
- 46:53Speaker 1: I agree. So I know all people at first thought
- 46:56Speaker 1: that was a great move for Dallas, but then when
- 46:58Speaker 1: I saw the competition, I said, that's terrible. I just
- 47:01Speaker 1: don't get it. If you were if you were quitting,
- 47:05Speaker 1: if the Eagles traded a lot for Quentin Williams or
- 47:08Speaker 1: edge rusher of like a three like Miles Garrett, You're like, well,
- 47:12Speaker 1: now you're gonna win the super Bowl. That's different.
- 47:14Speaker 2: That's this is the best. This is a first ballot
- 47:16Speaker 2: Hall of Famer, right, you know he's still dominant thirty.
- 47:19Speaker 2: No one could stop him. You would get that. Quinton Williams,
- 47:23Speaker 2: by the way, first couple of years, very immature. By
- 47:27Speaker 2: year five became one of their team leaders. Like he
- 47:29Speaker 2: grew up. He got it, he understood the responsibility. Phenomenal
- 47:32Speaker 2: football player.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no question about that. It's just well, you
- 47:38Speaker 1: know the other things.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Jerry Jones is so obsessed with improving the run defense.
- 47:41Speaker 2: It's like defense. I was like, dude, god get it. Club,
- 47:45Speaker 2: get that.
- 47:46Speaker 1: You have a bad secondary. They also have a bad secondary,
- 47:50Speaker 1: right exactly exact Trayvon Diggs with this odd concussion he had,
- 47:55Speaker 1: and there's there's just some friction with the kid that
- 47:57Speaker 1: they draft from Meath, Carolina come back from the A C. L.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Revel.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Well, yeah, they gotta get him going.
- 48:03Speaker 2: There are a total mess. Good luck Cowboys.
- 48:05Speaker 1: There you go, all right. I actually did a little
- 48:09Speaker 1: Winners and Losers from the trade deadline, so if you
- 48:12Speaker 1: want to see how I felt about I thought the
- 48:14Speaker 1: Rams made a sneaky good move with McCreery. I thought, obviously,
- 48:19Speaker 1: I thought the Jaguars may have been the dumbest team
- 48:21Speaker 1: at the trade deadline. I gotta say, like they should
- 48:23Speaker 1: have been sellers and they're sitting there buying a slot
- 48:26Speaker 1: receiver who's got eight weeks left before he's.
- 48:29Speaker 2: A free agent like that, and they're going for it.
- 48:32Speaker 1: They're not good. You know that, as the lowest passer
- 48:36Speaker 1: rating in the NFL of all the starting.
- 48:39Speaker 2: But again, they don't look at it when teams are like, okay,
- 48:43Speaker 2: this is this is a wide open year. There's no
- 48:45Speaker 2: there were no dominant teams. No one's close to dominant. Yeah,
- 48:48Speaker 2: you tell me, whant to back a team they lose?
- 48:49Speaker 2: You want to be you want? You want to back
- 48:51Speaker 2: the lines?
- 48:51Speaker 1: They lose?
- 48:52Speaker 2: When to back the Packers? They lose terribly at home?
- 48:54Speaker 1: I guess you can't watch the Jaguars and tell me
- 48:57Speaker 1: you think that they're actually a deep They're not going.
- 48:59Speaker 2: No, they're not gonna put You can't tell them that.
- 49:01Speaker 1: I know. That's what I'm saying, Like, yeah, people get
- 49:03Speaker 1: look at themselves in the mirror and have an honest
- 49:05Speaker 1: conversation about who they are.
- 49:06Speaker 2: I love calling teams at the trade deadline that are
- 49:09Speaker 2: like surprising, like you're like wow, and you asked them Hey,
- 49:12Speaker 2: what are you guys gonna do? You know, you feel
- 49:14Speaker 2: like you got to go for it, and they go,
- 49:15Speaker 2: you know what we're going to do. We're not gonna
- 49:17Speaker 2: tell you what they're going to trade for it, but
- 49:18Speaker 2: they're they'll say, yeah, we've had to talk when we're
- 49:20Speaker 2: gonna go for it. And you watch what they do
- 49:23Speaker 2: and it's, uh, it's pretty interesting. And it's funny because
- 49:28Speaker 2: their defense, I mean, Anthony Campanelli's done a great job
- 49:30Speaker 2: of their defense, but they're really not good at corner.
- 49:33Speaker 1: So what do you do They trade for a receiver? Yeah, okay,
- 49:37Speaker 1: makes no sense to me, but either way, that is
- 49:39Speaker 1: gonna do it. That's that's good stuff. We went around league.
- 49:41Speaker 1: But yeah, like I said on Philly Voice dot com,
- 49:43Speaker 1: you can read my summation of my winners and losers
- 49:46Speaker 1: from the trade deadline. That's gonna do it. For this
