- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. And this week
- 0:03Speaker 1: is a very special Patreon episode that you could be
- 0:06Speaker 1: listening to if you were one of our fans, one
- 0:10Speaker 1: of our listeners, one of our supporters that was backing
- 0:14Speaker 1: us on Patreon. So that's not that hard to do.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Just go to MovieMeltdown.com. There's a Patreon link right there.
- 0:21Speaker 1: And you can listen to us every special horror episode
- 0:25Speaker 1: when we say ridiculous things like this. I was trying
- 0:29Speaker 1: to think of stuff I'd seen somewhat recently.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Horror related.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This one, heavy related. Not so much horror. Did anyone,
- 0:39Speaker 1: because this is going back a ways, because I was like,
- 0:41Speaker 1: oh yeah, I saw this when it opened that weekend.
- 0:43Speaker 1: The Dead Don't Die?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Oh no, but I wanted to.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I feel like that's most of the people who were
- 0:48Speaker 1: just like, oh yeah, that came and went, didn't it?
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Here was my response.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Well, no, I don't. Because I saw it that weekend,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and then I saw someone I know who is a
- 1:02Speaker 1: big horror fan the next, like, Monday, and they were like, hey,
- 1:05Speaker 1: is that any good? And I'm like, well... During an
- 1:09Speaker 1: outbreak of a deadly plague, a mystical woman must save
- 1:12Speaker 1: her tight-knit Jewish community from foreign invaders, but the entity
- 1:16Speaker 1: she conjures to protect them is a far greater evil.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I mean, it is almost that exact thing. supposedly creating
- 1:26Speaker 1: her for a greater purpose, but in the end, really,
- 1:29Speaker 1: what does it come down to? Because we're humans.
- 1:31Speaker 3: This is what we do. No matter what technology or
- 1:34Speaker 3: materials you have, someone is going to build something to
- 1:37Speaker 3: have sex with.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I mean, that's really the reason.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Tale as old as time.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Damn straight. But really, I mean, the reason the internet
- 1:47Speaker 1: is so sophisticated as it is now in this short
- 1:50Speaker 1: span of time, it's because the forefront of it is
- 1:53Speaker 1: constantly making money to find new ways to use sex
- 1:58Speaker 1: as a way to sell it and to capitalize on
- 2:00Speaker 1: it and to spread into a new version and like
- 2:03Speaker 1: so that's the reason again ex machina makes perfect sense
- 2:06Speaker 1: because it's the next level of like okay we found
- 2:09Speaker 1: a way to bastardize the internet the most we can
- 2:13Speaker 1: how do we take it into the real world which
- 2:15Speaker 1: is why i put in my order for that fancy
- 2:17Speaker 1: japanese robot that i'm gonna get but those are expensive
- 2:21Speaker 1: by the way but yeah.
- 2:22Speaker 2: How much research have you done in it's more than
- 2:26Speaker 2: i can afford let's put it that.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Way feel like the main character hannah and her husband
- 2:33Speaker 3: whose name i.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Don't benjamin benjamin thank you i.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Feel like they were incredibly complex characters but again in
- 2:39Speaker 3: a very natural very organic way because as it goes
- 2:42Speaker 3: on you find out.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And that like relationship between them i thought like i
- 2:48Speaker 2: got real emotional yeah it was deeper than i thought
- 2:52Speaker 2: this kind of thing would be with like the heads
- 2:54Speaker 2: exploding at the beginning and everything.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So the fact that we don't, I mean, the kind
- 3:00Speaker 1: of opening shot, we get a version of that.
- 3:03Speaker 3: And I feel like that was vaguely modeled after the movies.
- 3:08Speaker 1: The old school version. But yeah, I was kind of
- 3:11Speaker 1: expecting it to be more of that sort of a
- 3:13Speaker 1: hulking beast. What do you think about the....
- 3:18Speaker 2: And just like these huge themes and like dichotomies that
- 3:23Speaker 2: you kind of like, Because, I don't know, I felt
- 3:25Speaker 2: like I was reading a really good short story, you know,
- 3:27Speaker 2: when you circle something and take notes, and you're like, oh, yeah.
- 3:30Speaker 2: There were a lot of huge concepts that it kind
- 3:33Speaker 2: of delved into that was really interesting that I was
- 3:37Speaker 2: not expecting at all.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Again, I'm like, I don't know that that's in the
- 3:41Speaker 1: folklore or something they just totally came up with, but
- 3:44Speaker 1: it's pretty impressive when it goes to that point.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Also, when they had that sex scene later, I was like, oh.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I really hope the kid can't feel that.
- 3:54Speaker 1: What's the kid doing in the barn right now?
- 3:58Speaker 2: This just made it weird. Okay. But otherwise.
- 4:04Speaker 3: I think that's really my only complaint about this movie. Yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I feel like this is just a really well-made, entertaining, thoughtful,
- 4:14Speaker 3: scary movie.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So, I think this is just dumb enough we could
- 4:20Speaker 1: get it greenlit. Let's start writing this right now.
- 4:23Speaker 3: It's hard to pinpoint that moment where a great idea
- 4:26Speaker 3: becomes a fantastic idea. But I think puppets in this
- 4:30Speaker 3: is where we.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Alright. So, again, this is the level of stuff we're
- 4:37Speaker 1: pulling in on the Horror Club episodes. Coming up with
- 4:42Speaker 1: our own movies, which we actually seem to do semi-regularly now, so...
- 4:46Speaker 1: If we need to put that together as a separate feature,
- 4:49Speaker 1: just like a pitch meeting every couple of months, we
- 4:51Speaker 1: can put that together. Anything else to pass along to
- 4:55Speaker 1: these people? Get it together.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Give us your money.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And again, not much money. I'm not asking for lots
- 5:04Speaker 1: of money. You know, the lowest level you can listen
- 5:06Speaker 1: to all the episodes like this when you're missing out
- 5:09Speaker 1: on them this week. So you wouldn't have to miss
- 5:11Speaker 1: out if you just kick in a couple of bucks
- 5:13Speaker 1: and keep us going and then join the club. We're
- 5:16Speaker 1: putting together more club-like activities and bonuses, like certain people
- 5:22Speaker 1: in the club get to pick the movies we're watching
- 5:24Speaker 1: in the future, so that could be you if you're
- 5:27Speaker 1: interested in inflicting us with some sort of special horror movie,
- 5:32Speaker 1: feel free, but you have to join the club to
- 5:35Speaker 1: do that. So, again, it is patreon.com slash movie meltdown,
- 5:39Speaker 1: or just go to movie meltdown.com, the Patreon link is
- 5:41Speaker 1: right there on the side of the page, and come
