The New York Islanders are letting fans design their very first alternate jersey — and it’s blowing up. Within five hours of launching the contest, they hit 12,000 submissions, soaring to 30,000 by morning. The team’s president says this is a boundary-breaking move, giving fans direct creative control. Designs are due July 24, then narrowed to five finalists by a team panel — and the public votes in early August. The winner gets a signed jersey and tickets to the first game it’s worn.
