- 0:00Speaker 1: We're starting off with a rubbing of a what do
- 0:03Speaker 1: we call it, a magically entered yes, and we're.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Gonna spread the peace with this. We're praying over it
- 0:12Speaker 2: that peace shall come to everybody in this world and
- 0:17Speaker 2: the world and the world and the other worlds, that
- 0:21Speaker 2: we have peace on this planet.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I love it. That's our wall. That's beautiful. And I
- 0:28Speaker 1: just looked at your video and it said make love
- 0:30Speaker 1: not war in that video from the old Woodstock days,
- 0:34Speaker 1: and and us I'll call myself a peace neck or
- 0:38Speaker 1: us lovers of peace, harmony, hope and all these things. Exactly.
- 0:43Speaker 1: We're still in the game right.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Absolutely more than ever, more than ever.
- 0:49Speaker 1: And we're gonna and now more than ever, we can
- 0:52Speaker 1: continue to need it because there are some in Yiddish
- 0:55Speaker 1: they call them a sugarness. There are some people, unfortunately
- 0:58Speaker 1: that are mentally ill, and I think they should resolve
- 1:01Speaker 1: their differences by punching the nose.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Exactly. They are the mischie gods, the gods, that's what
- 1:10Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Means a little bit nutty, Okay, you know.
- 1:13Speaker 2: That's what it is. They're a little bit nutty. People
- 1:19Speaker 2: gone crazy with the guns, people gone crazy in the administration,
- 1:25Speaker 2: people got nuts because they just don't know, you know,
- 1:28Speaker 2: how to find the peace within themselves, because they're not
- 1:32Speaker 2: from that generation where we really came out of war.
- 1:37Speaker 2: We were in war, our boys were killed, a boy
- 1:41Speaker 2: who became drug addicts, heroin addicts, and we had to
- 1:45Speaker 2: fight to make sure that it wasn't gonna completely take
- 1:50Speaker 2: over our cities. And it did, and sadly enough it did.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Sure that's why Woodstock was so important. And with five
- 2:01Speaker 2: hundred thousand young, beautiful teenagers in search of the truth
- 2:08Speaker 2: and the love that was missing in this world.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Well, you know, we spoke. We're meeting mutually through my
- 2:16Speaker 1: good friend Zen, who's been a friend of mine for
- 2:18Speaker 1: probably twenty years. And I might have mentioned I did
- 2:23Speaker 1: the twentieth anniversary of Woodstock with a nice Brooklyn boy
- 2:26Speaker 1: named Richie Havens in Times Square. I had actually the
- 2:31Speaker 1: Great Lawn and unfortunately at that and I had PBS
- 2:35Speaker 1: public because I was a Channel thirteen guy, Oh wow, executive,
- 2:39Speaker 1: but I couldn't raise the seven hundred thousand now of
- 2:41Speaker 1: course seven million. But and I still want to do it.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I still want to take over the Great Lawn, which
- 2:46Speaker 1: is on my corner here in New York Debbie, tell
- 2:49Speaker 1: us about you, what are you up to?
- 2:52Speaker 3: I am have co authored Sheena's book and story called
- 2:58Speaker 3: Karmaic Collision, and we have a film short that we've
- 3:04Speaker 3: already produced. Our editor and our directors and.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Ourselves have produced and.
- 3:10Speaker 3: This tells this tale of Sheena's life from Brooklyn to Woodstock,
- 3:17Speaker 3: to India to Jamaica. Lots of adventures and some international
- 3:23Speaker 3: famous names come through. Richie Hans is one in fact,
- 3:29Speaker 3: Dylan Bob Dylan Bob Marley.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And the Adventures of Sheena.
- 3:34Speaker 3: So we had a great time writing that as a
- 3:36Speaker 3: book and then working on drafting a script and.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Have gotten that started as well.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Well. I watched the Vimeo video, but let me ask you, Debbie,
- 3:48Speaker 1: what inspired you to do this? What inspired you to
- 3:50Speaker 1: work with her?
- 3:52Speaker 3: I liked her story and it's very much in keeping
- 3:56Speaker 3: with the third person.
- 3:57Speaker 2: That was the.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Trio that kicked turning it into it at least the
- 4:02Speaker 3: beginnings of film Houston, Cyprus, our film director who said,
- 4:08Speaker 3: we need more women heroes, we need more stories in
- 4:12Speaker 3: women's voices, and so I loved using my ability with
- 4:17Speaker 3: the keyboard and with technology to help Sena who had
- 4:21Speaker 3: her story, knew her story lived her story and has
- 4:24Speaker 3: a remarkable memory of events that took place in the
- 4:28Speaker 3: seventies as if it was last week. So it was
- 4:32Speaker 3: very easy for us to put to paper and come
- 4:36Speaker 3: to live. These stories were still so fresh in her
- 4:39Speaker 3: head that then when I would meet people that were
- 4:42Speaker 3: in some of those stories, or we were able to
- 4:44Speaker 3: read oftentimes in Bob Dylan books and those sorts of things,
- 4:48Speaker 3: parts of her her facts are always matching everything.
- 4:54Speaker 2: It just blows my mind.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Which keyboard was that? Was that a musical keyboard or
- 4:58Speaker 1: a computer keyboard?
- 5:00Speaker 3: Her keyboard to do the typing of the story, the
- 5:04Speaker 3: musical notes, I work with the keys, the letters, and
- 5:07Speaker 3: the numbers.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I just had a great six minutes. If that's the
- 5:11Speaker 1: video we're talking about watching that, yes, I'd be frank
- 5:15Speaker 1: with you. I got goose pimples in it and.
- 5:19Speaker 2: That.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And I'm a TV guy for fifty plus years and
- 5:23Speaker 1: they worked on my woh a lot of famous shows
- 5:26Speaker 1: and you knows you know, Sunny Share Cowber. I've done
- 5:32Speaker 1: three Sinatra specials. I made a lot of shows. Me
- 5:35Speaker 1: and a whole bunch of people make these shows. But
- 5:38Speaker 1: I've had some one hundred fifty network shows and then
- 5:41Speaker 1: we have seven thousand on good News, and so you know,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I saw, I saw, I feel now even when you speak,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I see in the video, which for me is I'm
- 5:52Speaker 1: a boobtube guy growing up. You have captured her because
- 5:58Speaker 1: I heard her speak with I have good buddies in
- 6:01Speaker 1: and I see you a little more because I know
- 6:03Speaker 1: Brooklyn inside out pretty much, because when I canceled Love
- 6:08Speaker 1: of Life, the soap opera drove car service, and I
- 6:10Speaker 1: married a girl from Avenue O on twenty third Street.
- 6:12Speaker 1: So that was my first wife, the mother and my daughter.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So I know a lot about Brooklyn fifty years going
- 6:18Speaker 1: down there. In any case, it's a certain kind of
- 6:20Speaker 1: a person that comes out of Brooklyn.
- 6:22Speaker 3: You know.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I'm a little terrytown boy. Ten thousand people. You know,
- 6:25Speaker 1: I'm like a little Nebi shure, you could say, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 1: but the Brooklyn people they got such moxie. I mean,
- 6:31Speaker 1: I did all in the family they got, but they
- 6:34Speaker 1: got It's a survival, but not a screw your neighbor survival.
- 6:39Speaker 1: It's a different it's a different like thing. YEA, where
- 6:43Speaker 1: are you from?
- 6:44Speaker 2: Where are you from, Debbie, I'm from the Northeast as well.
- 6:47Speaker 3: I'm Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York State, a couple of
- 6:51Speaker 3: years in Mount Vernon and school in Bronxville, and then
- 6:55Speaker 3: upstate New York, Buffalo, and then I've been lucky enough
- 6:59Speaker 3: to get to know a new home and a new
- 7:02Speaker 3: part of the world for the last on and off
- 7:05Speaker 3: for thirty years, the country of Greece. And now I'm
- 7:08Speaker 3: pretty much on the retired side of life. So whenever
- 7:12Speaker 3: I can, which this year will be May, I'll escape
- 7:14Speaker 3: to my Greek islands.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Oh it's pretty out there. It's pretty good out there.
- 7:19Speaker 1: They have a sustainable you know. We do Earth Day
- 7:22Speaker 1: April twenty second. It's a very major, if not the
- 7:25Speaker 1: largest Earthday concert and the exhibition in Times Square right
- 7:30Speaker 1: in the heart of it where I did the twentieth
- 7:31Speaker 1: a diversions. And Greece has a whole island that's sustainable.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It's a very sustainable country. Actually, I just got off
- 7:39Speaker 1: the phone. They're not joining in with us this year.
- 7:42Speaker 1: But Greece is a great country. What a great Socrates
- 7:46Speaker 1: and later the home of democracy, what a what a
- 7:51Speaker 1: wonderful thing? All right? Shot, d yeah, lay some good
- 7:56Speaker 1: stuff on us. What are you working on? What do
- 7:59Speaker 1: you want to do. What's your okay?
- 8:01Speaker 2: Well, my next major event coming up is April nineteenth
- 8:09Speaker 2: with a band called Jah Steve and the Counter Crew
- 8:14Speaker 2: reggae band, and we are performing for Big Mama Day
- 8:19Speaker 2: celebration Earth Day, and it's on the Mikasuki Reservation and
- 8:27Speaker 2: I will be emptsying and I will will be performing
- 8:30Speaker 2: as well, and the band will be playing. We're bringing
- 8:34Speaker 2: reggae Rastafi eye job blessings back onto the Mikasuki Reservation
- 8:41Speaker 2: for Earth Day celebration.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And that it all began. I'm an indigenous dude, and
- 8:50Speaker 1: that's the name of it. I got my little dobo
- 8:53Speaker 1: right here somewhere here from you know, I don't know
- 9:00Speaker 1: if you can see it.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, double house.
- 9:04Speaker 1: So this is really beautiful, beautiful somewhere. W You have
- 9:11Speaker 1: some Native American in you your family.
- 9:15Speaker 3: No, no other than my mother having been born and
- 9:18Speaker 3: raised on this part of the Seneca Indian Reservation, which
- 9:22Speaker 3: is a little tiny town in New York State called Salamanca,
- 9:25Speaker 3: but not in our family.
- 9:27Speaker 2: She just was in a town on the reservation. Oh really, Yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 2: it's still rents.
- 9:34Speaker 3: That town of Salamanca, kind of near Pennsylvania and Allegheny
- 9:38Speaker 3: rents from the tribe, and in my lifetime, their ninety
- 9:42Speaker 3: nine year lease came due and the tribe and the
- 9:45Speaker 3: town agreed to renew it for another ninety nine. It
- 9:49Speaker 3: was a one It was literally a one traffic light.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I think it was only Flashing Town.
- 9:55Speaker 2: But she then also worked with before I met her
- 9:59Speaker 2: and got closer there, the Tiger Brothers Tiger.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Tiger and Steven Tiger of the Makasooki tribe who were
- 10:09Speaker 3: the Tiger Tiger Brothers where they were a musical group
- 10:13Speaker 3: and they played in the late sixties throughout Miami and
- 10:16Speaker 3: they one of the biggest venues they played earlier in
- 10:19Speaker 3: their career was the Miami Pop Festival, which was the
- 10:23Speaker 3: largest festival up until Woodstock beat it by big numbers.
- 10:29Speaker 3: But and it was right before and it had a
- 10:31Speaker 3: lot of the same line up. It had Jimmy Hendrix
- 10:34Speaker 3: and Lannis Joplin. Yeah, a lot of the same uh
- 10:40Speaker 3: really key, fabulous lineup.
- 10:42Speaker 2: We're down here at the Miami Pop Festival.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Wow zaoie. So where is this tribe? Where were you
- 10:50Speaker 1: going to be before? Where they located on April nineteenth
- 10:54Speaker 1: egades in the Eades, Yes, they lived.
- 11:00Speaker 2: There. They live with the alligators, and they live with
- 11:04Speaker 2: the python, and they live with them in the new
- 11:07Speaker 2: breed of snakes that had been brought there by foreigners.
- 11:12Speaker 2: And they're wild and eating up all the lower constrictors,
- 11:16Speaker 2: bow pythons, python, and they're huge, they're massive, I mean they.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Have It's on a road between Miami and Naples, Florida,
- 11:27Speaker 3: about an hour from where we are in Broward County.
- 11:32Speaker 2: State, literally in the Everglades.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Some people take those snakes and they wrap them around
- 11:36Speaker 1: theirselves and they have them as pets. No, they do
- 11:40Speaker 1: not the snake I mean, I'm not.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I'm not. No.
- 11:47Speaker 3: I think more constrictors are ones that you can walk
- 11:50Speaker 3: around with. That's one that we used to have in
- 11:51Speaker 3: a science class and that would roll over our legs
- 11:55Speaker 3: because once they were fed, they didn't need to eat
- 11:58Speaker 3: for a few days. So wow, yeah, because they're the
- 12:01Speaker 3: ones who eat animals hole.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Yeah what and they have the condas there too.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I'm going to stay. It's not going to be a
- 12:12Speaker 1: typical New York Jewish guy go down to Florida. No,
- 12:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you're coming up, go down. We'll show you the
- 12:19Speaker 2: safe way. We want to show you.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Yes, you're gonna fly over the Everglades.
- 12:24Speaker 2: This is my flyer.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Oh nice, So send me a picture of this. Send
- 12:29Speaker 1: me your press release about the event. I love it.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Send me something about the book. When is this book coming.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Out very shortly within this year?
- 12:42Speaker 1: All right, that's very sure. My movie's coming out too.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Then Woodstock Forever, Peace, love and hope. Oh my god,
- 12:48Speaker 1: we should working on nineteen eighty nine. And so it's
- 12:54Speaker 1: like yesterday, and.
- 12:55Speaker 4: So uh, I feel like, I'm let's see how we
- 13:01Speaker 4: can collaborate and cross promote and help each other if
- 13:06Speaker 4: you want.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And you know, because you're on the same page with
- 13:11Speaker 1: us and me by far. It's funny. I'll give you
- 13:17Speaker 1: another little, funny little story. I've just been I've had
- 13:21Speaker 1: a lot of good stuff happened. So I interview at
- 13:23Speaker 1: a from a women's event. I'm actually a women's liberty
- 13:26Speaker 1: I talked to the United Nations last week at two
- 13:28Speaker 1: women's events. And my mother was a woman that was
- 13:31Speaker 1: a working women, women the library, the Temple of Manuel.
- 13:36Speaker 1: She was a working woman. So I didn't know about
- 13:39Speaker 1: women's liberation. They are just women work. That was you know,
- 13:42Speaker 1: European stock. That was just what people did. At least,
- 13:47Speaker 1: you know, in my lifetime could see. But the governor,
- 13:53Speaker 1: pretty well known governor, Governor Kathy Hockley. Here it was
- 13:58Speaker 1: at a women's event. I couldn't interview then, but I
- 14:01Speaker 1: she said, I will come over to my office. And
- 14:04Speaker 1: I came over to her office and I started at an
- 14:07Speaker 1: interview and somehow I said. She asked me who I am,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and I mentioned Woodstock forever because Woodstock was, you know, instrumental.
- 14:15Speaker 2: In the history.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Of New York as well as the world. And she said, well, here,
- 14:22Speaker 1: she just came back from the Woodstock Museum in Bethel
- 14:25Speaker 1: and she gave me a pin. A museum when you
- 14:33Speaker 1: look up if you if you google Woodstock. All right,
- 14:37Speaker 1: And I've made a lot of stories about Woodstock, the
- 14:39Speaker 1: Woodstock Museum, the Woodstock Radio, and so I've had and
- 14:44Speaker 1: then Jumla is in my movie. Who is Jimmy Hendrick
- 14:47Speaker 1: drummer and a and a great great citizen and a
- 14:50Speaker 1: very wise man and a do gooder. You know, you
- 14:55Speaker 1: could get probably a couple not hundred million hits on that.
- 15:02Speaker 1: So I think with your book coming out and you
- 15:06Speaker 1: were sharing another experience of Woodstock right now, you know,
- 15:16Speaker 1: August is Woodstock. Oh, I had Michael Lang's wife and
- 15:20Speaker 1: my last show in Peace Day, yeah she I had
- 15:26Speaker 1: her speak because we do a section in my show
- 15:28Speaker 1: called Woodstock Forever, Peace, Love and Hope. I'm doing that
- 15:31Speaker 1: in the Earth Day. So because I want the woodstock
- 15:35Speaker 1: forever is what we we call it, and I have
- 15:38Speaker 1: the wood for Forever. It's that mindset right exactly.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Well, I was kidnapped by Santana and brought to Woodstock
- 15:49Speaker 2: from the Fillmore East on LSD. Just came back from
- 15:55Speaker 2: Puerto Rico shipping my head off, and my friend said,
- 15:59Speaker 2: let's go to the Fillmore East. They got a hot
- 16:05Speaker 2: Latin band there that's from San Francisco. So I said, sure,
- 16:09Speaker 2: why not. We went over. We got there, got in,
- 16:14Speaker 2: and boy, the trip began. The bongos, the congos, the vibration.
- 16:21Speaker 2: It was just Michael Carabella's hair was blowing like black marshmallows,
- 16:27Speaker 2: and you Santana was ripping it up. And I said,
- 16:31Speaker 2: oh my god, I've got to meet these guys. So
- 16:35Speaker 2: my friend Kathy, who was with me, who was a
- 16:38Speaker 2: five foot seven or eight and she was sixteen I
- 16:44Speaker 2: was nineteen, and she had mos like Marilyn Monroe and
- 16:48Speaker 2: she was in love with the keyboardists. I forgot his name.
- 16:55Speaker 2: He worked for Journey for a while, but anyway, she said, yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 2: this's wait till they come out. I said, of course.
- 17:03Speaker 2: So they didn't come out through the back. They came
- 17:06Speaker 2: out to the front. We knew that. So as they
- 17:09Speaker 2: come out, I see Michael Caramello with his and he
- 17:14Speaker 2: had gorgeous long fringes, and the fringes were blowing my mind.
- 17:19Speaker 2: And then my friend went crazy for Greg Rohodi, and
- 17:23Speaker 2: the two of them walked out of the little tepito
- 17:26Speaker 2: and they said, hey, what's up. We said, what's up
- 17:29Speaker 2: about you? Guys are fabulous, We love you. Oh my god,
- 17:32Speaker 2: you're great. And they said, you want to come to
- 17:35Speaker 2: a concert, we'll go into a concert of State New York.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Me and my girlfriend looked at she tall as her
- 17:42Speaker 2: and she had a smile on her face, like, oh
- 17:46Speaker 2: my god, they're inviting us. I said, are they? She
- 17:51Speaker 2: said yes, They said go home and get your stuff.
- 17:56Speaker 2: My stuff was at Barrow Street in the West Village
- 18:00Speaker 2: and we'll pick you up in twenty minutes after we
- 18:03Speaker 2: load the van. So we run to Barrow Street packed
- 18:08Speaker 2: our little nothing because we had nothing. And then we
- 18:12Speaker 2: looked out the window on the Nott coming. They're not coming.
- 18:15Speaker 2: That wasn't the day it text, wasn't the day of
- 18:19Speaker 2: a cell phone, nothing. It was just roots. Anyway, all
- 18:25Speaker 2: of a sudden we hear pomp, pomp, pom pomp. The
- 18:30Speaker 2: guys Michael Carabello's there, you're ready, Come on, we're leaving now.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Me and I go office said, oh my god, let's go,
- 18:40Speaker 2: come on, let's go. We ran down the steps. They
- 18:42Speaker 2: put us in the back of the truck. It was
- 18:45Speaker 2: the open air. So we were in the back, in
- 18:49Speaker 2: the open air with Santana Gepito, Machel Carabello and another
- 18:57Speaker 2: driver and we're in the back. Think flipping. Now we'll
- 19:02Speaker 2: go into this concert. We have no idea where we're going.
- 19:05Speaker 2: What stocks Yeah, I've heard of it, okay, And we
- 19:08Speaker 2: wound up staying at their house for one whole week.
- 19:16Speaker 1: You're gonna put this girl in them. That's all the press, junket.
- 19:22Speaker 2: That's all I'm giving you. Just start, no more, no more.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Let's not to tease the audience. You've already teased them.
- 19:30Speaker 1: You teach me. In fact, I'm quite upset, all right, So.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Don't be.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Anywhere about you? Where can we learn somewhere about you?
- 19:40Speaker 1: We want to you have a website or where where
- 19:42Speaker 1: do we go?
- 19:43Speaker 2: Here?
- 19:44Speaker 3: There's a Facebook page, Facebook dot Comshena dot spirit.
- 19:50Speaker 1: So can you send me like a press release about her?
- 19:53Speaker 1: And since you you had those fingers and uh, email
- 19:58Speaker 1: me some stuff because we what we do, we'll cut
- 20:00Speaker 1: and past. And I'm not an editor. I don't want
- 20:03Speaker 1: anybody's words. Just cut and paste. You can't put a
- 20:07Speaker 1: title on whenever you want. And some pictures and we'll
- 20:11Speaker 1: get this story up, you know, as soon as we can.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It's a pretty busy time for us. But you too
- 20:18Speaker 1: are sweethearts and uh and and we thank you very much,
- 20:25Speaker 1: and so.
- 20:26Speaker 2: We're And I love your staff, and I love your
- 20:29Speaker 2: piece button on.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Your jacket, I got peace, thank peace, and I got
- 20:34Speaker 1: my I love it over here. Somebody's there. But in
- 20:38Speaker 1: any case, what.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Do you remind me of a Jewish rabbi who's spreading love,
- 20:44Speaker 2: peace and unity in the global community.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Well, that's a very big compliment. I'm actually reverend. I'm
- 20:53Speaker 1: an inter faith faith, but I'm very, very very I'm.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Jewish and I was brought up Jewish, and I don't
