- 0:00You're listening to banter with the boys talking all things sports
- 0:07From betting and brawls Super Bowl to Stanley Cup finals
- 0:12Get laced up it's time for banter with the boys. Hello everybody welcome back to this episode of banter with the boys ringside chirps
- 0:34Minnesota hockey edition in this episode we got quite a few different topics to talk about but as always we're going to go over
- 0:40Kind of just while they're doing what the NHL is kind of doing and also a couple other different Minnesota hockey sports teams
- 0:47With that kicking over my main man Smeltzi buddy. How are you today? Yo, yo, yo kev what's poppin?
- 0:54Just got done ripping, you know NFL was with Tyler if you don't listen to that you're into it into the NFL
- 1:02Go check us out there as well. But yeah, no
- 1:05I'm just ready to talk some pockets been a couple weeks. Obviously some minor things have happened
- 1:11But worth mentioning and we're happy you're here with us
- 1:14Obviously, please remember to to subscribe to us. It makes a world of difference for us. And
- 1:20Honestly, we just we hope we're providing, you know some quality content for you. Absolutely
- 1:25Yeah, we're trying to kind of expand our range a bit with different topics
- 1:28But similar things that we obviously, you know care enough about to talk about and can have a good conversation about so as always
- 1:34You know like comment subscribe, but with that smell see looking at the wild right now. We recorded our last episode
- 1:40They have gone five four and one and with that they won the last night's game
- 1:45Against the Washington Capitals the game that I did go to in fact
- 1:49Awesome game wild one five to three easily should have been five to one
- 1:53But they let their foot off the gas towards the end of the game
- 1:55And they won it anyway were those those the final two goals there for the caps were they more of a Gustafson thing or I?
- 2:03Think it was an all-around team thing
- 2:05I mean you're winning five to one with a just a handful minutes left minutes left
- 2:09I think in the game that's when they scored both it was towards the latter half of the third period as bogus
- 2:13That's not yeah, I watched part of it, and then I literally turned it off
- 2:16I think when it was five one yeah, so I went to some out or whatever
- 2:19Yeah, they held it out for quite a bit
- 2:21And I'm pretty confident that they I wouldn't say super duper confident went with that
- 2:25but they definitely had
- 2:26You know a little bit of time left in the game and the lot just kind of took the
- 2:29Took the you know the pressure off and and they came back, but at the end of the day while got the dub
- 2:35Great game overall Marcus Johansson who was part of the capitals in the past got himself two on the night
- 2:41Which is pretty sweet?
- 2:43in that game 11 total players from the wild had points including a goal from Brock Faber and
- 2:48Gustafson also had 31 say is in his third straight win
- 2:51Minnesota has now gone three in the row out of four and also four of five
- 2:57after losing eight and nine
- 2:59Right a turnaround yeah, and that's and that's the funny part right because like coming into this week's episode
- 3:07To be honest like it like leading up to it right before last week even like before a couple of those wins
- 3:13I was planning on like talking how bad we've been right and
- 3:17Now they've kind of seemed like they're kind of turning it around again
- 3:20Maybe going on a little bit more of another streak here a little bit
- 3:24I hate to say it and the reason I hate to say that that we're doing something good right now is the wild are
- 3:31notoriously garbage
- 3:32after the all-star break
- 3:34Even if we've got momentum going into it. I know you know knock on
- 3:39wood here
- 3:41They're gonna probably be garbage after the all-star break in a matter just a few weeks, but we've been garbage all year
- 3:46So maybe maybe this is the year that it changes
- 3:49But I agree with you like we'll have all this momentum going into all-star break
- 3:53Boom all-star break hits and now it's like we limp into the playoffs and then at first round exit like we know
- 3:58Are usual, but you know it's just like maybe maybe this is the year that turns around
- 4:02I don't think so, but maybe this is the year you know me hey
- 4:05I'd love it to be a turnaround year especially with the think the the reinvigorated team after having Dean let go
- 4:10I don't think Dean was the problem
- 4:12I think it was just the room and the team in general you got to do something to change things up and they've been pretty
- 4:17Successful since he's been a part of the team or been coach of the team so
- 4:20I'm happy with it. I mean I mean the wild are still six points out of a wild card
- 4:25That's not including last night's win so that was before yesterday's game when I when I grabbed that
- 4:31It's also been games played since then right so you know whatever we could be closer farther away either way
- 4:37It's within reach. There's plenty of games left. It's within reach
- 4:42Do you honestly think I feel like they were also six points out of the wild card our last episode if I'm not mistaken
- 4:49But sounds about right something like that. Do you think they they?
- 4:53Have a shot do they make the playoffs an outside shot?
- 4:59Yes, I think they'll make the playoffs by the skin of their teeth
- 5:03It'll be like what it typically is right this history repeat itself for us. Yeah
- 5:08It's gonna be a history repeats a substitution where we push really freaking hard at in the season
- 5:12And it comes down to X team has to win this game this team can't tie or can't lose in overtime
- 5:17And then this team's got to win three games in a row, and we got to you know do whatever
- 5:21And then we make the playoffs I thought gets to kind of typically what happens
- 5:24We've never like this I can't remember a season in the past recently where we've been like yeah
- 5:29We're golden in the playoffs right now like we don't gotta really fight for a whole lot
- 5:32We're kind of coasting in you've always got a grind and climb back into it, and it's always like that and again
- 5:37What happens then first round exit by?
- 5:40Every dang time except for the one year we didn't even make it into the playoffs a couple years ago
- 5:44Just really like I want to say something different, but it's hard being a Minnesota sports fan and expecting a different result after the insanity
- 5:51We've all in you know ensued
- 5:53For however long all of our sports even so that plus like this season in particular. You know the wild have been
- 6:00Plagued with injuries pretty much the whole season their captain is not on the ice. It's just yeah
- 6:08It just sucks. You know I mean it does again. We've we've always mentioned it
- 6:13We'll touch on it one more time, and I promise try not to bring it up again until the offseason
- 6:17But like again, we're still capped handicapped by those those per easy and suitor deals
- 6:23You know yeah, so just to have the expectation that we're a contender
- 6:27I know that's what every Minnesotan in their soul wants to think that we are a legitimate contender every single season
- 6:35And I feel ya. I really do
- 6:37it's just not realistic and
- 6:39Yeah, you know the fact that we're even talking that we could still make the playoffs
- 6:45With the team we have right now. That's it that says a lot. We're still competitive
- 6:51We're in a competitive rebuild right now in my opinion
- 6:54and that's again why we signed felino and Hartman and
- 6:59Zuccarello to two more deals. I know people were upset about that. We're overpaying them well
- 7:04Yeah, we are a little bit right we're paying them for their dues that they've done the past few years
- 7:10And they're helping us stay competitive. Yep in these two years of the
- 7:18The cap crap you know to say to say the least you know what I mean. I agree. I think you're right man. It's
- 7:25It's tough right. We'll get in a bit more the the contract details, or we should get into it right now
- 7:30What do you want to do to get into it? Just go for it all right?
- 7:33So with that I think we signed those deals to get us through the crummy cap stuff correct
- 7:39And then when we hit cap freedom if you will which is
- 7:4325 to 26 right 20 25 20 26 season
- 7:46Once we hit that
- 7:48We've got these guys locked in for a potentially one more more more more year
- 7:52Yep, and then you've got 15 million dollars
- 7:56To spend on somebody that these guys can effectively lead these lines for to help us go further
- 8:01Which is a lot of money in the NHL?
- 8:04It is a it doesn't seem like a lot and pretty much any other major sport in the US maybe other than MLS
- 8:08I don't know right. I can't remember how their contracts work to be honest, but um
- 8:12Like that's a lot of money to play with in the NHL now if you also look
- 8:16That's still you said 24 25 season yep
- 8:202025 2026 is when we're on a look at guys like Jared Spurgeon is he still on the team at that point?
- 8:26He's making seven and a half mil yep that might be more money available
- 8:30You still have some of these younger guys that could come up. We saw Sammy Walker come up
- 8:34He didn't do nothing when he was up here unfortunately, so hopefully he still you know grows down there in Iowa
- 8:40Yeah, but you got guys like that that can still come up Lambos
- 8:43We got other defensemen you got Jesper coming up
- 8:46Yeah, and now you just add a couple bona fide vets to that or like early on in the season there was talk of
- 8:55On the show here of Leon Dreisle. I think that's a great idea
- 8:58Somebody like that who's probably gonna be a vet not commanding a ton of money, but probably still worth that seven mil range
- 9:05And that's worth it
- 9:07Especially when you've got the money to spend I think that's our year to make the biggest push in the Minnesota Wilds history ever
- 9:14for the
- 9:16Long playoff run, and that's where I think ownership's at with like BG with people that might be frustrated with BG or whatever
- 9:22I think it's unfair to let go of BG
- 9:26Anytime before he gets to play with that money. Yep a hundred percent do not
- 9:31Let go of BG. I swear to gosh
- 9:34Let him play with that money at least for a year or two
- 9:37Yes, and then if it's not looking right or he built the wrong team, okay?
- 9:41Yeah, now now you get it right, but you he can't yeah, he's doing everything he can with what he's given right now
- 9:47You know what I mean? Don't don't even think about it
- 9:49Yeah, he's been dealing with those at Paul Fenton and Chuck Fletcher era days
- 9:53of like just trading everything away and having nothing in our farm system and then crummy contract upon crummy contract upon just
- 10:01Handcuffing contracts let BG cook. I agree. Let him sit there and marinate and cook
- 10:06We're in 2023 2024 season right now, so after next year goes by that's our time to shine right so we got like what a third
- 10:15Five eight four. Yeah, we got a good bit of season left here still third of the season left to make a push potentially get into the playoff
- 10:21Then go from there with that with the cap space. We're gonna have some room to grow once they get there
- 10:27Yeah, an actual push for sure and like that and like the push from now until we get that space any push is
- 10:35Literally just all pride you know and the appease the state of hockey. You know you were at the game last night, right?
- 10:41So going into that game people that bought tickets for that game knew dang well were six points out of a wild card
- 10:48We're not playing that amazing on the season as a whole yep
- 10:52But that place still looked packed the upper level still looked packed full up hockey is
- 10:58Is a way of life here?
- 10:59You know and I think still filling the stands when you're not performing super well as a team as a whole
- 11:07That says something you got buy-in from the community that says something. That's what it is to me, and I think
- 11:14People say where they say to hockey for a reason right
- 11:16Everybody from kids that are being just born they got skates on their feet to
- 11:20Old vets and older people playing boot hockey still it doesn't matter people play hockey no matter what it is it's part of the culture
- 11:26It's a part of their life forever for their entire life right and that's just how it is so
- 11:31Like you said granted the weather was pretty nice. It's like 40 degrees outside almost when the game was going on but like
- 11:36People will trek through the elements to get to these games. They'll trek through the losses
- 11:41They'll trek through the losing streaks the coach debacles etc
- 11:46To go to those games and and to like I don't to be there for the team like I don't think they're selling out
- 11:51You know um on some of these games they used to they sold out when they first became a team
- 11:57They sold out for what 10 15 years straight or whatever something crazy um surprised by that though right yeah
- 12:02But even if it's not a sell-out dude that stadium still packed though. It's pretty it's pretty darn close
- 12:07Yeah, yeah, absolutely so I to your point the fans are always gonna back the team as
- 12:13You know upset and grumpy as as the the fans may be myself included at a lot of silly things that have happened across my
- 12:20My tenure as a fan of the wild
- 12:22It's crazy to see what we've done so far and what's coming in the future
- 12:25I'm excited about it and the thing is is you being a fan for the last 10 years you haven't even seen the best of the
- 12:31Wild to be honest the first like within those first like five six years were awesome. Yeah, and uh
- 12:38I just you should go back. I have a dvd for you. You got to watch it actually
- 12:42It's like I don't know like about the 2004 or five wild
- 12:46I can't remember and it like follows a couple players around you would get a kick out of you won't know any of the players
- 12:51But you'll get a kick out of you might make recognized Marion Gabrik or Darby Hendrickson or something you know because Darby's called right yeah
- 12:57Um oh dude. I gotta get that to you. You would actually like that for sure. Yeah anyway um
- 13:03I've only been a fan for like seven or eight years. It has not been my entire life
- 13:06So I was born in Wisconsin that came here in 2011
- 13:08Didn't really get into the hockey life up until like 2013 14 ish
- 13:12So like I've only been a fan for for a handful of years a little bit a little bit more than that little less
- 13:17I'll get you up to speed on wild history because there's not that long right so
- 13:21You can't see much. Yeah, no you good you good for sure
- 13:24Let's jump on into our next one you mentioned it earlier the team the Minnesota wild is still plagued with injuries
- 13:30Currently right now got a couple of big names on the injured report list and just injured in general
- 13:35Obviously you mentioned it before our captain's not on the ice right now. Tell me a little bit more about what you're seeing what's going on
- 13:41I mean, it's just I think it's just the same injury. He's been dealing with I think he re-aggravated it and you know now they've
- 13:48Now shut him down for the season and not only is he I believe having surgery on that
- 13:54But he's also gonna have a second surgery on his back. It's like his back and his hip or there's two like
- 14:00Two surgeries. I think his hip is the main surgery right? Something like that. And then a second surgery on his back. Yeah, dude. That's not good
- 14:06Yeah, well you kind of hope like back to like the Parisi era days where he was just getting cross-checked constantly in the lower back
- 14:12And it was never playing like himself for a year or two
- 14:14Finally took some time off got his back fixed up and he came back and it was already done good. Yeah, you're right
- 14:19He's still Zach Parisi. Let's be real
- 14:21But at the end of the day like that surgery helped him get out of a you know an ailment
- 14:24That he'd been dealing with for years
- 14:26This might be something that really resets Jared Spurgeon and puts him on another track to success. He's still a fantastic defenseman regardless
- 14:33But imagine if he's been playing hurt for a hot minute
- 14:36You fix the guy up. Come on now
- 14:39So but that's that's just it. He's still a fantastic defenseman regardless
- 14:44That's that's just it. You know how old's Jared Spurgeon is. Oh
- 14:47Take a guess on at the top of your noggin. I was gonna say like 36. He's 34. All right
- 14:52I'm ready for all right. So
- 14:55You know, so just looking at those surgeries he does need
- 14:59You know, he signed here until he is 37 years old. Yeah, what three to go
- 15:06More years. Well, he's 30 once he comes back next season 35 36 37. Yeah three years. Okay, including next season
- 15:12He's got three years left and he's making 7.5
- 15:16All right, you know, he's a 7.5 cap hit anyway
- 15:21Is he worth it at this stage in his career and I hate to say that because I've been a huge Jared Spurgeon guy
- 15:27I believe he's been here his whole career even
- 15:30He's been great for the organization
- 15:34but is he I
- 15:36Just don't know if he's gonna be here for the remainder of his
- 15:40Contract and I can't remember if he has a no trade on that
- 15:44Mmm, are you saying that you don't expect him to be here? Even though he's the captain of the wild
- 15:48Do you still think that they're gonna take and rip the sea off of his chest metaphorically to say and send him packing elsewhere?
- 15:56Like do you really really think in reality that that's gonna happen?
- 16:00I'll give you my opinion on that if you care to know I think they do that
- 16:03I think if he comes back from this injury and
- 16:06Towards the last year maybe two years of his just got three to go ready comes back. He's got a couple more years to go
- 16:10I think they may not keep him around. I think he'd be
- 16:14Fantastic on the trade market, especially when we got money to spend
- 16:17But if and then that's just it if he comes back and they decide to take the sea from him
- 16:21I don't think they take the sea from him on the
- 16:24And let's say traded force, you know, cuz if you take the sea off a guy, that's gonna be weird, bro
- 16:29You can't go back in that locker room
- 16:31You know, so I
- 16:33So, hmm. I got that just hurts to say cuz I'm a big Jared Spurgeon guy
- 16:38I wanted his jersey actually for a while. I still don't have one. I'll probably still get one whatever with the sea, of course
- 16:43There you go
- 16:44But like it's just I don't know
- 16:47I just I don't think that with the direction that that Garin's going with the money
- 16:52He's gonna have with the big bruise II beefy tea, right?
- 16:56What was their thing last year grit first or some nonsense that we'd still lost anyway in the first year, right?
- 17:01Like some goofy slogan that they had grit first your captain's four foot tall
- 17:07Come on like you can't I understand like sizes and everything when it comes like ice hockey players
- 17:13But like at the end of the day you're gonna get bodied and it happens all the time
- 17:16But also Jared Spurgeon is also a gangster and fights back. He does
- 17:21There's a give-and-take with that. But again, if he comes back from the surgery these injuries and is not himself
- 17:26Or if he just kind of is is never the same as you do see what other players who do get injured
- 17:33Is he coming back?
- 17:34And if you've done or some of your phrase when he comes back
- 17:37Is he gonna stick it out for the last three years and now they're gonna give him an extension because no way dude
- 17:42He's not getting an extension at least from the wild if it's from the wild. It's gonna be dummy cheap
- 17:48Well has money to spend at that point that he's 37
- 17:50He's 37 years old just came off a seven and a half year cap hit for the last seven years long
- 17:56I don't think you're paying them that kind of money. Is he still gonna garner like a four mil deal possibly? Yeah
- 18:02I have man three to four three to four makes sense to me. I get you know for like a two-year deal
- 18:08Yeah, because I mean you see some guys play into their 40s in the NHL, which is crazy considering
- 18:15The the wear and tear on their bodies. Yeah, not only that they're balancing on
- 18:19steel
- 18:21It's crazy the athleticism and like the physics behind it, but I don't know dude
- 18:27I've been dreading this Jared Spurgeon talk because he is getting up there in age really
- 18:32And I don't want to say that because I'm not far off from that age so that's kind of bogus
- 18:36But but for a professional athlete you know that's that's getting up there once you hit your mid-30s
- 18:44Yeah, well so now we've been talking a bit about like if he goes what are we gonna do?
- 18:48Well, he's gone right now the wild needs someone to fill that space. Who do we go and get?
- 18:53Is there there's a right answer this question smells and you better not get it wrong. We're gonna fight
- 18:58There's oh, there's a right answer
- 19:04Better know it. Oh, that's funny as heck. I do know I do know where you're going
- 19:09Don't even say it yet because I know exactly where you're going yeah
- 19:12I'm cool bringing them back on like a three mil deal actually
- 19:16He's already on nine million dollars right now solo year. That's fine
- 19:20We're talking about Matt Dumba you you would know it if you follow the pod because that's kev's guy yep, and
- 19:26I mean why not right right now. It only takes up half that money. You can still sign another guy
- 19:32That's my thought you know you don't go blow it all on one player yeah
- 19:36And you might as well pick up. I don't know if you pick up 2d guys or not
- 19:41But I think it's not a bad idea
- 19:43It's really not nope he's hurt right now. That's the only issue
- 19:46I don't know what the details of his injury are how long the details of it are what you know what the terms of it
- 19:51Got the chemistry with the team right? That's it. He's a locker room guy. He's the freaking DJ locker room guy
- 19:56They do like him in there used to be an assistant freaking captain last year
- 20:00He was the man right everyone had high appraises you read his articles that Russo wrote about him
- 20:04And everyone had nothing but great things to say teammates talk about pranks
- 20:07He pulled being the guy you'd have everybody over for holidays and stuff like that
- 20:10I think he's who you go and get is an unrestricted or he's I think he's unrestricted free agent at the end of the season
- 20:16Might be restricting is no unrestricted right right shot defenseman. He knows everything
- 20:21He knows the system now granted the new head coach in town
- 20:24But everybody else had to learn it Maddie had to go and learn it over in Arizona
- 20:28I think you bring him back here
- 20:29And you still got you know potentially a couple of million dollars to go around and play with something maybe just for
- 20:36Another beefy guy that you're trying to get out there to be you know
- 20:38Beef up your team a little bit or do you go out there and possibly get just a young?
- 20:42A young guy to maybe spruce things up down in Iowa help the boys out down there right two-way player guy
- 20:48You sent him down there. Maybe he's a good call-up player who knows right like
- 20:52It's definitely an option in my opinion the question is is what we have to give up to get him
- 20:57Because you can't just send him money much
- 20:59I don't think it's gonna be much because the coyotes haven't really used him in a massive role by any means
- 21:05It's not like he's lighting the lamp either. He's got five points in 44 games. Yep again
- 21:10He's a defenseman his plus-minus is negative 10 don't like seeing that no
- 21:16But his average time of the ice is 20 minutes. He's still being used yeah
- 21:21He's not obviously their top guy. Nope. I would imagine they would move him considering. He's on a one-year deal
- 21:27Why would you not if you can get something for a guy?
- 21:30That's gonna leave probably anyway, and that's where the coyotes kind of were already when we when he signed there
- 21:37We already knew he's playing for a bigger contract somewhere else most likely just a one-year deal prove it deal right yep
- 21:43That's what he got
- 21:45He was making I think he was making up to six million bucks here for a little bit part of his contract
- 21:49It could be wrong, but I think he was making four to six million dollars a year here on his last deal
- 21:53Did he just yeah?
- 21:55Money, I think he was making four here for something like that right yep. I could be wrong
- 21:58But I know it was always different either way at the end of the day we can afford him
- 22:02You know any on how cheap he goes effectively it might be worth bringing them back
- 22:06fill in that spot because any you know the
- 22:08Downside of that that is is you break up the Brody and the favor line put him back with with
- 22:13With Dumba or do you leave the goal that you have right now with favor just playing so much?
- 22:17Nope you find somewhere else to plug dumb and you do not mess with yeah, the only good thing
- 22:22That's happening for the wild defensively right now. Yeah, you do not mess with that
- 22:26I like you do add them in though. I do like adding them in there somewhere, but that's not my decision
- 22:32Yeah, but yeah for the money. He would be a decent option. I agree. I agree
- 22:38Do you have any other players who you think may be worth coming in a trade over here for him?
- 22:43Anybody can think of the top of my head right now sure I think I want to be
- 22:51Want to say that there's a couple of players that I was just talking to a buddy of mine about today
- 22:55actually who might be
- 22:57Might be worth
- 22:58Looking into here as well, but at the end of the day. There's definitely some some room
- 23:03For us to grow and I'm hoping that with again now that you want to see somebody out
- 23:10but
- 23:11Well, I use and take advantage of the situation that we're dealt right now with spurge and being out
- 23:16I mean alleged cash allegedly you got tan of Chris Tanne of and Calgary
- 23:21That's on the block
- 23:23He's looking at four and a half mil could afford that ufa after this year
- 23:29You got
- 23:30looks like Sean Walker from the flyers is
- 23:36Also a ufa after this year for two point six mil. He's got five goals on the year 16 points
- 23:41Okay, who's that now his name Sean Walker for the flyers interesting. That's kind of yeah, that is interesting
- 23:54Well
- 23:55Wait a minute the trade deadlines already passed the trade deadline isn't it there's a not no when is it?
- 24:02Find out no I'm an idiot. What am I talking about? There's no way why would it be before the all-star game nope?
- 24:07I've March 8th March 8th. Okay. Yeah, wow sorry folks. I don't know what I'm talking about
- 24:13Yeah, so there's room to go for it. I did the day I can't offend to yeah Calgary. He's a 20 dude
- 24:214.95 mil, but he's a 25 point getter right now 26 year old ufa after 24, but
- 24:29Chichurin out of Ottawa
- 24:31He's ufa after 25
- 24:33Four point six mil that might be intriguing potentially right because you got him for another year year after that if you're gonna
- 24:40You're gonna absolutely add to your probably your top four defense even good
- 24:45No, we're struggling right on the defensive area right you got John Merrill. That's our biggest issue. Yep, Merrill's playing kind of crummy
- 24:51Middleton's doing decent for right now. He's gotten some points in the last few games. He's playing well
- 24:55I would feel comfortable if we had enough pieces where Middleton's playing on our third D bearing
- 25:00Yeah, that would mean that solid pretty comfortable on the top four. Yep. That's where I'd like us to get to defensively
- 25:07I don't know if we're gonna do that this year
- 25:10But I'm telling you folks just waited out these few years the wild they're gonna win a cup. Let's see
- 25:17What is it 2024 25 26 the wild they're gonna win a cup by?
- 25:2228
- 25:2428 you say 28 maybe 2030 may 2030 before the decades out the Minnesota wild are bringing a cup to the state of hockey before the decades out
- 25:37Like it. I like it. I'm holding you to it. Yeah hold me to it. I'm into it
- 25:42With that let's move on here. I've always got to talk about them the guys a stud Brock Faber, man
- 25:48Come on Brock Faber. Just an absolute beast right now
- 25:51Russo tweeted out earlier today fresh off college ice
- 25:54He shouldn't be this good, but to know the fact that he's played 200 more minutes this year than the next wild player
- 26:02End quote what a wild statistic
- 26:05200 more minutes what he said
- 26:07Oh, can you imagine right now? He's got 24 and like a half minutes average per game
- 26:13Still over a minute over the next player on the list for the wild Wow is your college defenseman
- 26:20Obviously like granted had Spurgeon been in all season not having these issues
- 26:24I think his ice time might have been a little bit less because I never really paired him up with Spurgeon
- 26:28But I think this in general
- 26:31The kid is showing off his stuff right now right everybody in the locker room talks about him
- 26:35How he's just crazy good, and he just shouldn't be as good as he is right now, but
- 26:42Again if you bring anybody else up here
- 26:44How do you what happens to those lines because you know even if you lose a couple of games they shift things around
- 26:49so
- 26:51Maybe you might find some spark there with with other defensive pairings if we you know go on a downward spike
- 26:56Like we talked about before after the all-star break right switch things up a little bit
- 26:59Maybe find some magic somewhere else, but yeah, I mean
- 27:02Obviously there's something to be said about Brock Faber. I mean he's right now. He's looking like he's about fourth in
- 27:09Calder voting which allegedly Bidart is still running away
- 27:12Bidart is still running away unanimously just crazy while he's injured with yeah, but then you got Luke Hughes
- 27:19I believe he's out of the New Jersey Devils. He's second with 47 points
- 27:25Bidart has 75 points. This is the voting I'm talking about so far right this came out January 14th. This is from NHL.com
- 27:35Columbus Blue Jackets Adam Fentili. I hope I said that right 36 points
- 27:40he's third and then you have Faber at 24 points and
- 27:44Marco Rossi at 20 points of rounding out fifth we have two players in the top five for voting really for the caller
- 27:52That's impressive if that doesn't make you feel good about a couple years from now like we're talking about
- 27:58Add Jesper to that yeah
- 28:02You let you let him prove a little bit more because right now Brock Faber can be resigned to an extension or
- 28:06Something other than his rookie year deal right now. He's in July 1st. You'd lock him up
- 28:12I hundred percent somebody even asked for you so when he tweeted about that like how soon can we bring him and what?
- 28:18Are you thinking what do you think is gonna get?
- 28:19No, there was did he say what he's gonna get nobody thinks no he didn't say he didn't reply to that tweet
- 28:24But I the the comments went wild. What do you think he garners?
- 28:28Depending on how long the deal is I hope that they keep him around for the max what I think is eight years
- 28:32And with a potential moving clause midway through or towards the end
- 28:37Potentially an average of five to six roughly he's shown in my opinion last year in the playoffs
- 28:41Being fresh off of losing the championship game for the Gophers now appeared us
- 28:46He's proving himself all the way across the board five to six. I think we got to give him more
- 28:52really
- 28:53I think I get him seven dude. Yeah, I think between six and seven of seven at the top
- 28:58I know dude spendy right a lot of money guy. That's
- 29:00Only played a year. Yeah, you know he
- 29:04He's got a key proving stuff has he proven stuff absolutely right absolutely we're in a greens there
- 29:08Yeah, but he's got a key. He's got to add to it right and he is
- 29:13But that's just taking a bet you know you see it in the MLB all the time
- 29:16You got a couple guys that play really well one season. They're
- 29:22Crazy young boom 12 year deal. No
- 29:25How do you know that dude's gonna be the same player in ten years you don't crazy? That's part of the risk
- 29:31And you're seeing it in all major sports right now in the US
- 29:34Specifically, but I'm sure around the world to you're locking these when you see talent
- 29:39You're locking them up for a long time now. I will say that Brock favor. We should he need I think we should too
- 29:45I think at some did it with Brodean. Yeah, I think at some point in time Capri soft guess VA
- 29:50Oh, this would be the sea. I think that's just I think it's just how that goes. I don't think they're gonna
- 29:56Let him go anywhere. He is the franchise player. I think he gets to see
- 29:59Don't know when I think Capri soft ends up with the CNS chest at some point
- 30:04But I think it's what's gonna happen, and I think your favorite six around. I think he gets an a for sure
- 30:10Depending on who else is around again. We got some moves to make we got some time to kill before we get some of that money
- 30:15Back you never know who's gonna come and go you never know I
- 30:18I hate myself for this. Oh, I hate myself for this row raggie
- 30:23but
- 30:26Kirill Kapri soft is gone before he gets a see in Minnesota
- 30:31Really you don't think he's gonna stick it out or you think we're gonna use him as trade bait for something potentially
- 30:36What the hell you're gonna get for?
- 30:38That's the thing you got to get something incredible for him
- 30:41He's one of the he's going to be one of the top players on his own now. You've noticed this year
- 30:45He's taking a step back. It's a little slower. Yes, right
- 30:49Now last year he was ridiculous. Yeah, some of the stuff he was doing was ridiculous. What happened less injuries?
- 30:55You know he has the people that have been with him have been changed quite a bit different coaching staff
- 31:00Again, you lost the room in the beginning
- 31:02You need continuity. I don't care what sport it is. I don't care what team it is you need continuity to play well you do yeah, so
- 31:10Man, dude, I don't know I know that was I know that was a doozy right there
- 31:13I know it's a doozy right there, but like I just I don't know I want him here
- 31:18Yeah, but if there's something on the table. I don't know what would have to be on the table right now
- 31:23I'm not saying I have a deal in mind
- 31:24I don't it need to be wild for he's here for what the next six years something he signed a five-year deal
- 31:30So then he had one left. I can't remember yeah, but like I don't know man. I know that's crazy, but it's just
- 31:38We got we got to do more to keep him here
- 31:41I know what I mean like yeah again
- 31:44I hope like BG has explained that to him where the status the team right where we're at we're in a competitive rebuild
- 31:51Most likely again. He hasn't said that that's my take on it from what we've noticed right yeah
- 31:57Like I just hope he realizes that in krill's 26. You know it's just I
- 32:04Don't know I don't know why I said that I hate like I said hey myself well
- 32:08That's the crazy thing so I'm looking at his contract right now. I just pulled it up
- 32:10He garners nine million dollars for your correct five-year deal
- 32:15Nine million bucks this year nine million bucks next year and then nine million bucks
- 32:202025
- 32:222026 now as a note next season and the following season have no move no move clauses
- 32:28They then specify if it's a full no move or what the details of those are what season next season next season and 25 26
- 32:34Yep, don't forget 25 26 when we get that money, so
- 32:37Maybe he gets paid then and then what you lock him up long term
- 32:41Yeah, and you go get his partner whoever that may be yeah
- 32:44It's not gonna be Zuccarello at that point Zuccarello's gonna be 55 years old. You know
- 32:50It'll be interesting hmm. It'll be 28 dude. That's that's your prime for NHL players, right?
- 32:55Like like that 28 to 32 if you're something special that'll be oh man. What is he gonna cost?
- 33:02That's the thing he's making nine million bucks a year. He has not been playing this year
- 33:05Like he deserves nine million bucks a year
- 33:07Just that's just it but again I agree to your point about continuity you got to fight no matter what next man up next man up
- 33:14Mentality I don't care I get it, but how many times can you kind of get beaten down by like oh?
- 33:19This star player is out for six weeks. Oh this star player is hurt because of this
- 33:22Oh Capri saw probably has broken ribs like he may still not be better from that like he never know right there's still things
- 33:28It could be lingering so so of course. I don't know what what site did you use to pull up his contract?
- 33:33This is cap friendly okay, so this is spow track. I use them for NHL stuff to spow track calm. Okay. I don't know
- 33:39I just like their stuff. They explain it good, but anyway yeah
- 33:43They're saying that in 2526
- 33:47Obviously his cap hit nine mil still yep the cap hit percentage, and I'd imagine this is for the team
- 33:53Yep, is 16.5 percent. That's if it doesn't go up
- 33:57I'm sure it's gonna go up a little bit. It goes up a million
- 33:59That's probably including people that are dropping off right that will probably resign or whatever right?
- 34:05But like even right now. This is it's this is probably more realistic right now 10.4 percent of our
- 34:11basically 10 and a half percent of our
- 34:14salary right
- 34:16He's not he's not playing up to that level right now. He's definitely not no I
- 34:21I still think he's still got leaders boldies, but that's another conversation
- 34:25He was though for a little bit, but he's not anymore
- 34:27Tendingly Rossi right gonna Rossi's not making that crazy money yet, but he will be
- 34:31But like like we've mentioned maybe that's just part of the continuity these these specific players including Rossi and boldy and caprisov
- 34:39Yeah, they need to grow together now
- 34:42Throw favor in there
- 34:43Rodin is now your vet which is crazy to say because bro Dean used to be the young
- 34:48As you like to say the young buck young that was gonna be you know our stud and now that's exactly who he is
- 34:53He's still underrated nobody appreciates what he does truly because it's not a stat thing
- 35:00You know so but anyway
- 35:03Let that core growl man, and then you hit that money in two years and then
- 35:08Hopefully you add a good locker room guy, but also somebody who's
- 35:12At the top of the league yeah
- 35:14I want somebody at the top of the league to come in here and play with Kirill need a stud center
- 35:19That's it you do you do that's what I'm saying
- 35:22You do you do that's what you need a number one center ever I said that one is a perfect number two center
- 35:28He's not he's not your number one. No, I said that before in the season
- 35:32I'm pretty sure you did that we need a stud center and
- 35:35after we lost koi vu
- 35:37We've never been the same when it comes to winning face-offs and granted towards the last
- 35:41Year, maybe two years with us. He wasn't waiting. He wasn't what he was you know
- 35:45But when he was at the top he was one of the best centers in the league for what he what his job was
- 35:50Yep, I remember them saying too that they changed one of the rules in like the face-off like process
- 35:55I don't know what it was, but he couldn't quote unquote cheat anymore
- 35:59So he wasn't I don't remember what the rule change was but I remember hearing on the radio
- 36:02From what people were saying on like the broadcast that they're like yeah
- 36:05One of the rules had changed somehow were like I don't know if it's like who puts their stick down first or like
- 36:09The process and like the whole flow of the the face-off or whatever
- 36:12Also, they get like the double kick out and you get a penalty now that that's newer in the process so things changed
- 36:17So he wasn't as dangerous if you will but in the past he was just a killer on the face-offs
- 36:22So I bet his brother did the same thing to sac who yeah, we just need somebody to win a freaking draw
- 36:29If you can get somebody with that money you throw him up there with capri stockers again
- 36:33Like he said, it's probably not gonna be zuccarello. You never know who will be
- 36:37There might be something there that's magical. I don't know what it is
- 36:40We hope we can only hope but you heard it before 2030 and honestly my god's telling me before 2028
- 36:46But yeah, there's a cup in minnesota
- 36:49That's the hope right? We'll see what happens
- 36:53All right, we're gonna move into our next section here this episode
- 36:56We're gonna talk a little bit about some of the news around the nhl got two points
- 37:00He that we want to talk about first one first being the owners of the utah jazz
- 37:05Have officially formally requested an nhl expansion team to bring a hockey team to salt lake city
- 37:11Currently right now the utah grizzlies play in utah at the moment
- 37:16They are an e chl team that feeds up through colorado's avalanche team
- 37:20So kind of an interesting dynamic there. I'm not quite sure if if a team is warranted
- 37:25Out in in utah, but that might be kind of cool. I'm always down for more
- 37:29um, not necessarily more expansion teams but more viewership of the hockey sport because again
- 37:35It is everything here to us right it's culture. It's in in your life since you're a kid hockey to the minnesotans is crazy
- 37:41So seeing it broadcast elsewhere and bringing up a new fan base to it
- 37:45That's awesome also gives us more players to look out for and and better
- 37:49Better chances for some cool players to be drafted and also who the heck do you you know?
- 37:53Who do you protect in the expansion draft right a lot of a lot of hey?
- 37:56Havoc and chaos that it brings but what do you think spouts? You think it'd be kind of cool to see an age or?
- 38:02You know see these guys out there and then yeah, I mean, I guess my only concern would be
- 38:07if
- 38:08They would draw enough fans, and I mean maybe for a professional hockey team they they would
- 38:14um
- 38:15But like if you look at what is it the utah grizzlies?
- 38:20their average attendance for last year was
- 38:24uh
- 38:265167
- 38:28Okay, so now whether I don't know how many people they can fit in their arena wherever the heck they play
- 38:33um you know, but it just
- 38:38Can they can they fill out a stadium for an nhl hockey game? I'd be curious. I think they held some event
- 38:44I don't know what it was
- 38:47Gosh, I wish I could find it because
- 38:50this thing that i'm doing is not letting me go in there, but
- 38:54they held some event and it was a hockey game and they brought like
- 38:579 000 people sure to that so that's you know that's at least more three quarters of the stadium so they play at maverick center
- 39:05Apparently in sultake city or nearby. Uh, it's a 12 600 cap
- 39:09Okay, so if they're doing about half of it if they sold that out, you know
- 39:14Then consistently sold that out consistently then maybe you could um, but it's not like look at the coyotes right now
- 39:20It's not like they have room for a ton of fans either
- 39:22So maybe maybe you could build a little or play there play at the 12 000 seat arena
- 39:28Yeah, and see what happens, but I just yeah, how many can you look up quick?
- 39:33Yeah, how many seats the kraken arena seats? Yeah, because obviously pledge arena, right? Yeah climate. Yep, that sounds right
- 39:40And I mean obviously that's a newer team, right? Um, I think vegas seats quite a few
- 39:44Yeah, but 18 300 for climate and that's a normal that's a normal nhl size arena. We are here. So
- 39:50I
- 39:51Don't know. I don't know if they would sell enough to be honest with you. I think it'd be great
- 39:55Yeah, you know, I like seeing more teams personally, but now you gotta add probably another one right because that'd be an odd number
- 40:02so utah and
- 40:04Who knows?
- 40:06You know like no clue right bring back the hartford whalers. I don't you know what I mean? I don't know
- 40:12Atlanta thrashers, alana makes a return to the nhl, you know, hey, there you go. I don't know it balance out
- 40:18It balance out. It is two different. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so I don't know so it's interesting. I didn't heard that
- 40:23I didn't heard hear that yet. Yeah, so that was definitely some news to me
- 40:27Yeah, some official news this morning and the second little bit of news here is this is not 100% verified
- 40:32So please take that with a grain of salt here if it is untrue
- 40:35I apologize
- 40:35But some of the information that I saw this morning earlier today was that zach parese might possibly sign with colorado avalanche after the all-star break
- 40:44Do I really care about that? No, not really
- 40:46No, not really, but I'm surprised to possibly see him moving around from where he's at
- 40:51But also is he going to colorado do they have a chance right now? What is their status in his do you see parese making any?
- 40:59Like any benefit any benefit one anywhere, but in general in colorado right now
- 41:04It's it's not like he was complete garbage last year, right? Yeah, but he's aging just like anybody else. It's a normal thing. Yeah
- 41:12His better years are behind him. He's 39 years old. Yep
- 41:17Um do I see them like answering your legitimate your actual question here?
- 41:22Um do I see him actually helping colorado?
- 41:28Uh, I don't know where he'd slot in. I don't know if colorado's suffering from a bunch of injuries right now
- 41:32Sure, you know one thing I will say is the last two seasons zach parese has played 82 games
- 41:39Unhurt which is kind of surprising for the islanders for the islanders. Wow
- 41:43So then he had 35 points and 34 points the following year and last year last year
- 41:48He had it was the 34 points with a plus seven
- 41:52Average it's about a half a point every other game roughly a little less right because 82 games and you got what?
- 41:57Yeah, yeah, something points roughly both probably third third fourth liner average ice time was about 16 minutes last year
- 42:04Okay, so yeah, obviously up some obviously your bottom six, right? Yep. Um, what kind of crazy?
- 42:09He's a fat dude. He could he could bring they must be suffering from an injury if you heard that then
- 42:15Is my guess could be right? I mean great again. It was just wild, you know twitter x
- 42:20Hockey garbage banter who knows right? But it's kind of an interesting thought to think about anyway big
- 42:26Hey, it'd be good to see him keep playing. Yeah, and you'd see a bit more of them too here being in colorado
- 42:30Yeah, right. Oh, right time will tell but that's all we've got here for for the nhl news as things stand right now
- 42:36Uh, we're gonna jump over into one of our newer, uh segments that we talked about last time on the uh on the podcast stay tuned
- 42:45Moving on to our next topic here. We're talking about the pwhl minnesota team
- 42:50As we talked about it. We were super excited to one have the pwhl
- 42:55Become a thing and also
- 42:57Bless us with a hockey team here our team's been pretty darn solid. What's their record right now?
- 43:02Four one and one I think is what you mentioned there. Uh, yeah. Well, yeah. Yeah
- 43:06Uh overall their four
- 43:08Oh and one now dropping literally just a few minutes ago to four one and one
- 43:14Uh taking their first regulation l at home
- 43:18Which is a bummer but also at the end of the day like you're not expected to win every single game
- 43:22Especially in your own league. You're not expected to win every single game
- 43:26Especially in your inaugural season
- 43:28But I think that does show four games in five six games into the season that they were just went undefeated in the regulation
- 43:35Up until tonight, which is pretty crazy. So
- 43:37Stoked to see that took to see that the gals are doing well
- 43:41We talked initially about the home opener beating records
- 43:44I wanted to see if that would continue for the attendance for the pwhl and for just a minute. So the minnesota team specifically
- 43:51We looked it up and right now the pwhl average is about 5 000 per game
- 43:57ish
- 43:59Minnesota has a league high
- 44:00Uh game average of about 8600 give or take per game over the first six games of the season
- 44:06But how many of those are home games for them? Um, that's you know, don't have off the top of my head. However,
- 44:12That's fine. I feel like they've only played like three home games
- 44:15And i'm certainly not here to hate by any means. I I love that as a thing
- 44:19Uh, but 13 000 opening night. They had about 5 000 tonight
- 44:24Averaging out at 8 000. That makes sense. So dropping off a little bit here and there so that other crowd must have been
- 44:31What closer to 9 000 then maybe roughly?
- 44:35Maybe 10. Um, but if there was three games played or whatever, uh, I thought this was kind of interesting
- 44:42What do you got? Uh, I pulled this from some site called
- 44:46Blackout dallas. I don't I think it's a dallas stars fan page. Maybe okay interesting
- 44:51Um, we'll we'll take that with a grain of salt then. Yeah. Yeah, right, right, right, right
- 44:55Um, but they say here and i'm taking this from their little article here. Yep. Uh, shout out
- 45:01Uh, the pwhl has had over
- 45:0372 500 attendees across 15 games based on data collected from current game sheets if grouped
- 45:09This is almost the equivalent of selling out american airline center four times
- 45:13Which has a capacity of roughly 18 500
- 45:16So I thought that was kind of interesting. It's about the same size as our venue here. Yeah, it's 15 games
- 45:22But selling it out four times for a brand new league. Yeah, it's not horrible
- 45:27No, if you really think about it, it's not great, but it's not bad when you consider like they've pretty much lost about a half of their
- 45:36Home opener stats as far as like attendance, but it also tonight was a no tonight was a wednesday night
- 45:40True, right. You're not saturday matinee 2 p.m. For your home opener in the season and series ever in your inaugural season
- 45:48That's a different beast. So
- 45:50I'm not too upset about that average. I'm sure the weekend games will will definitely get more
- 45:55Exposure and have a better attendance and turnout
- 45:57No, no doubt and and I mean according to this same article as of january 22nd, which is two days ago. Yep
- 46:03Um the general merchandise for the league is sold out across the league. Wow, that's impressive
- 46:12That's pretty darn cool
- 46:14That's pretty darn cool
- 46:15Now do you think that was just a safe bet by the league not ordering a bunch of stuff or do you think that the country?
- 46:19The communities have rallied a little both. I think it's a little both
- 46:22But if you think about it, right if they're if even the lower teams
- 46:27Are averaging almost five thousand a game. Yeah, that's what ahf is doing
- 46:31That's what the echl is. They're averaging anywhere between
- 46:36I'm sure some are less like three thousand, right? Yeah, you know they go up but they go up to like eight maybe ten thousand
- 46:42And you're seeing five thousand so far in the first year of the league. That's probably only gonna grow
- 46:49That's impressive. I think it's I think it's impressive. It might not seem like a lot to people but yeah, you know
- 46:54I know there's only six teams, but you're drawing people there
- 46:57I like to see it. I just googled it real quick here on a couple of quick little google searches
- 47:02Roughly the iowa wild attendance is about six thousand in the game give or take six thousand for iowa wild for iowa wild granted
- 47:08That was on a very very quick google search with a couple of different random things that came up one of them being reddit
- 47:12So take it. Yeah, however, it sounds about average. I mean
- 47:17Downtown harder to harder to moly right on the river. You got uh, wales fog arena. There's only so many people no offense
- 47:23You iowans. It's true. Is that iowans? Iowans. Yeah, we got family out there. So do you yeah, okay? Yeah, nice
- 47:29I still want to make a road trip down there. I want to see an iowa wild game really bad this year
- 47:33I mean, especially now once we have everybody healthy in the wild and you send all of our iowans back to iowa to play
- 47:38I know now they can turn their season around
- 47:41There are a few points out of play playoffs right now, too
- 47:44But that is true. That is true talking about some of the pwcs
- 47:48Out players real fast though grace zoom winkel zoom winkel. I believe is how you pronounce the last thing
- 47:53I apologize for butchering that second in goals in the league with five. That's pretty impressive
- 47:57Yeah, and I think those came in the first game ever. Yeah, and I think the league leader was at uh
- 48:03I'm sorry at like six or seven. I can't remember
- 48:06League leaders at six. Okay, so only one goal away. That's that's that's that's manageable and you're not chasing that too hard
- 48:13And and uh, I think it's some week. Oh wait, we're gonna have to figure that out. But uh
- 48:18She's also only two points behind points leader for the league who has eight and she has six so perfect
- 48:24So she's right. Yeah, she's right there, which is awesome
- 48:27And then you've got a line here in our in our our document here about the goal tending you want to tell us a little bit
- 48:31About the tendies dude our tendies in minnesota are playing very well. Um, I just want to say
- 48:38Really quick how many each has played looks like maddie rooney has played
- 48:45Two games, I think okay two games for maddie and both six games total and so nicole has played
- 48:53Four games then if there's six total games. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so
- 48:58So let's just talk about them really quick nicole
- 49:01Hensley, I think I'm saying this is a good one
- 49:04Let's talk about them really quick nicole, uh hensley. I think i'm saying that right sounds right to me
- 49:10Um, let's see. She
- 49:12Right now has got a 1.75 goals against
- 49:16Solid that's great. Uh
- 49:19And a nine three nine save percentage
- 49:22That's gangster and about she's got three wins. Okay
- 49:27Pretty solid. Uh maddie. Let's go back to maddie here
- 49:31maddie rooney
- 49:33our other tendy 1.45 goals against
- 49:37with a
- 49:38943 save percentage
- 49:40That's impressive. So we have surprise. We're not one and two with those numbers, dude
- 49:44So we got we got a couple good tendies here. We do it sounds like you can send either one out there
- 49:49Which it that's awesome. That's awesome. That's a that's a good problem to have it sucks
- 49:53Maybe for the girls maybe not because you know, it's so new and they're just excited
- 49:57Everybody's just excited to be a part of it right now. Yep
- 49:59Um, but the thing that people like overlook and obviously i'm not a woman, but so i'm not gonna know right but like
- 50:08They're way more competitive than you think. Oh, yeah, you know what I mean?
- 50:14And I hate that people just automatically dismiss women as not competitive, you know, not physical. No, that's a bunch of bull
- 50:20That's a bunch of balls. It is so eventually if you have two good tendies
- 50:24Eventually, one of them is going to want to move on so they can be a stud somewhere else, which is fair
- 50:29You know, yeah, so for now good problem to have something to keep an eye on for the pwhl minnesota team
- 50:36Yeah, but inaugural season. There's plenty of room to go dude. There's a lot of good happening
- 50:40They could win the inaugural championship the way it's going
- 50:43Knock on wood a little
- 50:44Do we know how many I think it's probably four teams that make the playoffs right? Six teams in the league probably four, right?
- 50:50You have two semi-finals which may be best of five
- 50:54I don't think they play a seven game series maybe three for the semis and then five for the finals
- 51:00Could be I don't know. I'm trying to think of like and I know way different sport, right?
- 51:04I'm just trying to think of how the
- 51:07Wnba does it I think they do
- 51:09Gosh, I want to say they do five and then seven for the finals, but I could be wrong. Okay, so
- 51:15Per let's see per wikipedia. Anyway, I don't know if I want to listen. Yeah, but try it out
- 51:21That's a couple of different size a couple of different options that are on here
- 51:26But really quickly looking at the wikipedia answer it says
- 51:30The season will culminate with two
- 51:33A two round best of five playoff series including the top four teams to determine the season champion
- 51:39So we pretty much had it
- 51:40So sounds like the semi-final round and the final round are both best of five. That's awesome, dude
- 51:46What sounds like did you did you met? Can you imagine what a playoff game for them will draw here in minnesota?
- 51:52I mean that that imagine i'd imagine close to that record. Yeah, I agree. I think it'd be really crazy to that
- 51:58I mean everyone loves playoff sports in general
- 52:01I think playoff hockey is awesome playoff women's hockey especially coming up as much as it has been
- 52:05I think you'll probably get a very very similar if not better
- 52:08Turnout than the home opener or the inaugural opening. Did you go to the inaugural opener?
- 52:12So what was the atmosphere like? It's crazy, man. There was let's go. Let's go in minnesota
- 52:17Minnesota
- 52:19That was pretty much how they were chanting. Because I was gonna say let's go minnesota. I was like that's too long
- 52:23There was a lot of different. Let's go PWHL minnesota. That's too long
- 52:26There was a handful of variations throughout that. Everybody trying to figure it out
- 52:29Yeah, it's pretty cool though because they they had the the goal song for them was uh don't or can't stop me now
- 52:34I believe by Queen. Oh dope. So
- 52:36Please tell me they lit the lighthouse. They did. Did they? They did. Yes, and it was the wild horn. It was. Oh dude
- 52:42That's lit. That makes me excited. Yeah, they they went out
- 52:46Their their intro wasn't as cool with the laser light show and all that jazz but also it's fine
- 52:50Yep, but also it's like their inaugural season. So like they introduced every single player. That's fun
- 52:55One by one they skated out and said hey home opener. Yeah, rinse and repeat
- 52:59So that was pretty cool. The environment was cool
- 53:01So I can only imagine how rockin that place would be during get some towels going for PWHL playoffs
- 53:07Let's go. It'd be really cool. Dude. Let's go
- 53:09We'll have to we'll keep you guys posted with how the gals do and maybe we'll take a bandit with the boys trip to a
- 53:14PWHL let's go. I'm in I'm in playoff game. We'll see how things go. I'm in but with that
- 53:19We've got one little bit of hockey news
- 53:21We're going to talk about which is very very local here to the state of Minnesota talking about hockey day, Minnesota
- 53:32Yeah, so hockey day Minnesota, I can't remember when it was actually created
- 53:38I wish I should have probably pulled that up before I started this. Yeah
- 53:42But really it's it's an event that is held
- 53:44Actually Thursday Friday and Saturday with Saturday being the the actual hockey day Minnesota
- 53:52So it starts off right away at 9 30 in the morning
- 53:57With Warode playing Lakeville North the girls varsity squads facing off
- 54:03And that is in an outdoor rink in Warode, Minnesota
- 54:06So hockey day Minnesota is being held in Warode
- 54:08Which is a solid like five hours straight north of where we are located here in the cities
- 54:12It's a hike. Yeah, it is a hike and it gets cold
- 54:16But there is so many NHL players that have came out of Warode
- 54:22There's over 80 division one players that have came out of Warode, Minnesota some like that
- 54:28There has been every medal that the Olympic men's team has won
- 54:32There has been a player from Warode, Minnesota on the team
- 54:35Wow
- 54:36So I'm pretty sure I'm pretty sure if I saw that commercial the other day
- 54:39I'm pretty sure I did
- 54:41But no so yeah it starts with the varsity girls Warode versus Lakeville North
- 54:46And then you go on at 1 p.m.
- 54:48You got Morehead facing off against top ranked Wyzetta
- 54:52I'm sorry I think they're number two in the state
- 54:53I think the skippers are still number one
- 54:56And then you go ahead and you got another varsity game at 4 30 p.m.
- 55:00Warode facing off against Roseau
- 55:03Just that is just a classic northern Minnesota game right there
- 55:07Yeah
- 55:07Oh dude 100 p you know that's a matchup that you're used to seeing in the state tournament
- 55:14It's yeah unless they're from the same section actually they might be
- 55:18Now they think about it
- 55:20But it's just a classic northern Minnesota matchup for sure
- 55:247 30 p.m. this is not televised but you got the Warode Bantam A's playing the
- 55:28Morehead Bantam double A's should be a good matchup there
- 55:32And then the day concludes I think PWHL actually also plays that day
- 55:37If I'm not mistaken I think I think they're between 4 and 7 p.m.
- 55:40Somewhere in there I don't know who they play off the top of my head
- 55:43That's not listed here which is atrocious but
- 55:47But to cap the day as always the Minnesota Wild will be playing
- 55:51They play the Ducks at about 8 p.m.
- 55:55So which is pretty sweet when I first moved to Minnesota and started following hockey
- 55:59I found out that like hockey day Minnesota was a thing
- 56:01I was dumb and I'm like dude how cool would it be to watch like the wild play like outside
- 56:06In like Warode or you know Duluth or whatever they're playing it
- 56:10So I'm like heck yeah we're gonna go and then of course I didn't actually go
- 56:13But I did some research and I'm like oh that's not how it works
- 56:17Like the outdoor games they have once or no twice they've played outside here
- 56:21And then what's it called Winter Classic finally
- 56:24There you go Winter Classic yeah
- 56:26Two games which I wanted to go to and did not attend
- 56:30I went to the Winter Classic last year a couple years ago
- 56:32Did you?
- 56:32It was crazy
- 56:32That's cool I went to the
- 56:34When they had the stadium series here it was at TCF Bank
- 56:36At the Gophers where the Minnesota Gophers play football
- 56:39Yeah
- 56:39And the Gophers men's hockey team played against Ohio State like two days before that
- 56:44Or whatever before the stadium series game so I went to that
- 56:47That was lit stupid cold
- 56:49Oh yeah
- 56:50You know but there was like there's still like almost 20,000 there it was crazy it was fun
- 56:55Hockey's crazy out here man
- 56:57Yeah and I went to the Winter Classic same thing it was like zero degrees minus 20 win
- 57:00So when the game started
- 57:02A ton of people
- 57:02Oh yeah and it was like minus 10 minus 35 with the windchill when the game was over
- 57:06We lost too didn't we
- 57:07We did lose that game which stunk
- 57:08Darn it
- 57:08But at the end of the day it was awesome so I did check here it looks like the Minnesota
- 57:12PWHL team plays at Boston at 4 p.m. Eastern time to be 3 p.m. Central time here for us
- 57:18Minnesotan folks
- 57:19On Saturday
- 57:20On Saturday the 27th
- 57:21Yeah
- 57:21So that'd be pretty cool to really bring Hockey Day Minnesota all together
- 57:26Obviously a little bit of a different beast there but still be really really cool to see
- 57:28The Gals play too
- 57:29But yeah man fun fact Hockey Day Minnesota next year you know what it's gonna be
- 57:36Let me think next year next year next year is it in the cities
- 57:40It is no not necessarily in the city
- 57:43Burbs
- 57:43Yeah
- 57:44Okay it's in the burbs
- 57:45Yeah
- 57:46It's not gonna be in Shockby is it really
- 57:48It's gonna be at Valley Fair
- 57:50What
- 57:50Yeah I'm very very interested to see how they're gonna do this
- 57:54We should go
- 57:54I'm going 100,000 percent
- 57:56Yeah
- 57:56100,000 percent we should go for sure
- 57:58Because I wanted to go to the one that was in Stillwater because it was so close to the water
- 58:01And it looked cool with the lift bridge and blah blah blah
- 58:03And then they had one in Duluth right next to that lift bridge I was like darn it
- 58:07I didn't go to that one
- 58:08Yeah
- 58:08Valley Fair that's so random
- 58:09Look how I can only imagine like how cool the pictures are gonna be that I'm a photographer
- 58:13For you guys who don't know how cool the pictures are gonna be imagine the kids like
- 58:17Breath coming out of their mouth like in the fog that comes out of your mouth and you're
- 58:20Breathing in super cold air with like your hockey stick and your face mask on and everything
- 58:24Your helmet's all decked out and then he's got like roller coasters in the background
- 58:27They're not gonna be running
- 58:29No but like how crazy like
- 58:30They should run one though
- 58:32Why not in the background?
- 58:33They might just for fun but I think that the picture is still gonna be super cool
- 58:36How like the tracks and stuff running behind the power tower
- 58:38The only place I can think they would put it is in that parking lot
- 58:41The parking lot I can't
- 58:42So if they put it in the parking lot you have a steel venom still there
- 58:46Yeah
- 58:46So you got steel venom the wild thing right there yeah you got power tower there
- 58:51That might be cool I didn't know that it was at Valley Fair
- 58:54I believe it's at Valley Fair I apologize if I'm wrong
- 58:55I had a gut feeling about Shakopee but Valley Fair man
- 58:59Yeah it's sounds like it's gonna be pretty cool
- 59:01I'm surprised it's not like Canada or something
- 59:02Yeah I mean it'd be crazy if it was there but they don't have the seating for it
- 59:05They only have the seating in like that one corner section so
- 59:08With it being at Valley Fair they should be able to either use something that's already
- 59:10Pre-existing or just build an entire stadium
- 59:13They'll just build it out yeah I would imagine
- 59:15So it'll be cool though man so here's hoping for Hockey Day Minnesota 2025
- 59:20Here in the homeland of Shakopee if you guys didn't know that's where I live
- 59:23So with that man this has been an awesome episode
- 59:26You got anything else to take us out with?
- 59:28No man not at all it's just been a pleasure as always I'm glad to talk some puck
- 59:33You know luckily we got on some topics here so I didn't have to bring in a new segment
- 59:37Well maybe we'll save that for later but uh what what?
- 59:42That'll be awesome to bring it back in
- 59:43I like how we're expanding to some other hockey stuff in Minnesota
- 59:47We got some time to to kick things off maybe over the NHL All-Star break
- 59:50We'll bring in some other things as the other boys are taking a chill but
- 59:54With that said thank you so much everyone for your time thank you for listening as always
