- Geno’s homecoming starts fast! This is The Sports Reset for Saturday August 22nd In the NFL preseason, the New York Jets shut out the Pittsburgh Steelers 17 to 0. Geno Smith went 7 for 7 for 65 yards and capped his only series with a 13-yard touchdown to Jelani Woods in his return to the franchise that drafted him. New York’s defense added two interceptions after going all of last season without one. The Green Bay Packers beat the Denver Broncos 33 to 13, with Jordan Love finding MarShawn Lloyd for an 11-yard score. In MLB, Jacob Misiorowski threw six shutout innings as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Atlanta Braves 2 to 1, becoming the first team to reach 80 wins. In the WNBA, Olivia Miles scored 24 as the Minnesota Lynx beat the Washington Mystics 94 to 84 for their sixth straight victory. The Chicago Sky topped the Golden State Valkyries 73 to 70 after Sydney Taylor hit tying and winning threes in the final minute. Looking ahead, the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship moves into the third round with Wyndham Clark at 12 under, one ahead of Gary Woodland and two clear of J.J. Spaun. Woodland entered the tournament 31st in the FedEx Cup standings, just outside the 30-player field for next week’s Tour Championship, so every weekend shot carries postseason weight. In MLB, the Toronto Blue Jays visit the New York Yankees, while the Brewers and Braves continue their series after Friday’s pitching duel. In the WNBA, the Indiana Fever meet the New York Liberty at Barclays Center. On the LPGA Tour, Miyu Yamashita brings a five-shot lead into the next round of the CPKC Women’s Open. Beyond the scoreboard, four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb retired Friday after eight NFL seasons and four consecutive 1,000-yard rushing campaigns.
