- 2:02Speaker 3: We're going to talk about the proposed tax cut that
- 2:05Speaker 3: they actually appears this is going to happen, and it
- 2:08Speaker 3: was kind of a compromise, which is something you don't
- 2:10Speaker 3: hear a lot about it. As I said, Brad mcilhenney
- 2:13Speaker 3: would talk about that. Also a lot of focus on
- 2:15Speaker 3: some childcare issues, not as much as some would like
- 2:18Speaker 3: though delicate. Kaylee Young's going to join us to talk
- 2:20Speaker 3: about that, coming up a little bit later on. Also,

- 2:36Speaker 3: More coming up the first two. First one will be tonight,

- 2:52Speaker 3: All Right. The general election is coming up November the fifth,
- 2:55Speaker 3: and there are some counties in West Virginia that are
- 2:57Speaker 3: in need of poll workers in our area. Could not
- 3:00Speaker 3: Awe Boon, Putnam, Fayet just a couple of the counties
- 3:04Speaker 3: that are in needs of people. Western Indiana Secretary of
- 3:06Speaker 3: State Mike wonders here that he is the chief election
- 3:08Speaker 3: officer for the state of West Virginia. Secretary, good morning,
- 3:10Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
- 3:12Speaker 5: Good morning, good to be with.
- 3:13Speaker 3: You, Thank you for being here. I mentioned a few
- 3:15Speaker 3: of the counties in our immediate area, but there are
- 3:17Speaker 3: of course more state Why I think I heard eighteen
- 3:19Speaker 3: or something like that. Why the need for more poll
- 3:23Speaker 3: workers and how did we get here?
- 3:26Speaker 5: Well, what we've got is this isn't a crisis. This
- 3:29Speaker 5: is a request from the Kenny clerk simply asking for
- 3:31Speaker 5: people to become a pole worker. They always like to
- 3:35Speaker 5: have not just the required minimum of five for precinct,
- 3:38Speaker 5: but they like to ask Maltern it's in place in
- 3:40Speaker 5: case something happens to one of the primary poe workers,
- 3:45Speaker 5: and we're always looking for new poe workers. I'd like
- 3:47Speaker 5: to do the shout out to Barbara County. Philip Barbara
- 3:50Speaker 5: High School had twelve high school students during the primary
- 3:53Speaker 5: who served as pole workers. So we'd like to get
- 3:55Speaker 5: the young people involved in politics. So this is just
- 3:58Speaker 5: a general request out to the public to all your
- 4:01Speaker 5: listeners to consider being a poll worker. And perhaps you
- 4:05Speaker 5: know somebody that has shown an interest in politics or
- 4:09Speaker 5: maybe voice to concern with the integrity of the elections,
- 4:11Speaker 5: any of that. There's no better way to overcome your
- 4:14Speaker 5: concerns about an election if you go work the polls
- 4:16Speaker 5: and you see the checks and balances that are in place.
- 4:19Speaker 5: So this is a request the listening public to consider
- 4:22Speaker 5: being a poll worker. And it's easy to do. Simply
- 4:25Speaker 5: pick up the phone and call your county clerk. In
- 4:28Speaker 5: Kennall County of course, it's Barry McCormick. Down in Putnam
- 4:31Speaker 5: County's Brian. We'll just call the county clerk, let them
- 4:33Speaker 5: know your interests and they'll run with it. You can
- 4:35Speaker 5: also get online either the county's website or my website
- 4:39Speaker 5: which is go votewv dot com. There's a big purple
- 4:44Speaker 5: bar there it's become a poll worker. You click on
- 4:46Speaker 5: that tab and putting you in your information and we
- 4:49Speaker 5: will get it to the respective county clerk. So it's
- 4:52Speaker 5: an easy thing to do. We talk about volunteers, but
- 4:55Speaker 5: you actually get paid for this, typically about two hundred
- 4:58Speaker 5: and fifty dollars to work the that day. That's pretty
- 5:01Speaker 5: good money for one day's work, especially if you're a
- 5:05Speaker 5: high school student or somebody just starting out, maybe fresh
- 5:08Speaker 5: out of college. Become a poll worker and do your
- 5:11Speaker 5: civic duty. You won't regret it.
- 5:13Speaker 3: I guarantee you talking again with wester renewed Secretary of
- 5:15Speaker 3: State Mac Warner about the need for poll workers. And
- 5:17Speaker 3: I think it's very important to note what you said
- 5:21Speaker 3: at the outside of the interview, Secretary, and that is
- 5:23Speaker 3: that we're not at any critical stage yet, but you
- 5:25Speaker 3: want to have more than what is required. It takes
- 5:28Speaker 3: about eight thousand poll workers, according to information from your office,
- 5:31Speaker 3: to pull off an election in this state, and I
- 5:34Speaker 3: think it's I think it's very interesting and congratulations to
- 5:37Speaker 3: you and the staff there for trying to reaching out to,
- 5:41Speaker 3: let's say, non traditional people about being poor workers. Like
- 5:44Speaker 3: you said, a high school students. I mean, you know,
- 5:46Speaker 3: it's two hundred and fifty dollars a day. It is
- 5:48Speaker 3: a long day, but that's not bad, not a bad
- 5:50Speaker 3: chuck of change for a kid it's in high school
- 5:53Speaker 3: or maybe in college.
- 5:55Speaker 5: No, it's fun. You get to meet neighbors, you get
- 5:57Speaker 5: to meet people, and typically they do of pot luck,
- 6:00Speaker 5: you know, for lunch or dinner, order pizzas, that kind
- 6:03Speaker 5: of thing. So it's actually fun and the idea of
- 6:08Speaker 5: going and being a part of this political process, especially
- 6:11Speaker 5: during these divided times. This is a very divided election,
- 6:17Speaker 5: extreme views on either side, and be a part of it.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Come in there and be a part where you see
- 6:22Speaker 5: that we don't have the art machines, are not connected
- 6:25Speaker 5: to the internet, that we do have paper ballots, that
- 6:27Speaker 5: we retain those paper ballots for twenty two months, so
- 6:30Speaker 5: that if there's any concern over the integrity of the election,
- 6:34Speaker 5: somebody voting that shouldn't, or ballot stuffing or any of
- 6:38Speaker 5: those sorts of things you hear in these other states
- 6:40Speaker 5: doesn't happen here in West Virginia. And there's no better
- 6:42Speaker 5: way to see that yourself than to come in and
- 6:45Speaker 5: be a poll worker. We want people from opposite parties
- 6:48Speaker 5: and even it isn't just Republicans and Democrats, but Independence,
- 6:52Speaker 5: Green Party, Mountain Party, whatever affiliations. You do have to
- 6:56Speaker 5: be a registered voter. That's the only qualification. So you
- 7:00Speaker 5: have to be eighteen, you have to be registered vot
- 7:03Speaker 5: and then the county clerks will assign you to the
- 7:05Speaker 5: appropriate precincts, so we have that balance of at least
- 7:07Speaker 5: five pole workers in each of the precincts. So that's
- 7:10Speaker 5: how it works. And again it's as easy as getting
- 7:12Speaker 5: online to the go votewp dot com website or calling
- 7:17Speaker 5: your county clerk and letting us know if you're interested.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Will run with it from there.
- 7:21Speaker 3: And polls of course on election they are opening secretary
- 7:23Speaker 3: from six thirty am to seven thirty pm. And of
- 7:26Speaker 3: course you do have to commit to the whole day
- 7:28Speaker 3: because I've had people back when I was helping to
- 7:31Speaker 3: recruit poll workers, I had people that would say, well,
- 7:33Speaker 3: can I do it just in the afternoon or the not.
- 7:36Speaker 3: It's pretty much you got to commit the whole day.
- 7:38Speaker 3: But I have found that most employers, though, especially if
- 7:41Speaker 3: you give them enough notice, most employers are are okay
- 7:44Speaker 3: with letting their employees off.
- 7:47Speaker 5: Yeah. Now, the state legislature did pass where you can
- 7:51Speaker 5: work a half day, but okay, to the county, I
- 7:53Speaker 5: don't have to work that in so we can't guarantee
- 7:55Speaker 5: that all throughout the state. But some counties do allow
- 7:58Speaker 5: that the clerk would have to work. If you want
- 8:02Speaker 5: only work a half day, that half somebody who'd worked
- 8:04Speaker 5: the other half. That sort of thing, So there are
- 8:06Speaker 5: those options. It's again where our legislature listens to the
- 8:10Speaker 5: needs of the people. And what we found in a
- 8:12Speaker 5: couple of counties is a husband and wife. The husband
- 8:14Speaker 5: are working in the morning and the wife in the afternoon,
- 8:16Speaker 5: and that sort of thing, so that that is a possibility.
- 8:19Speaker 5: But again it's a it's a good time once you
- 8:22Speaker 5: get there. I haven't heard anybody it's ever regretted being
- 8:25Speaker 5: a poll worker. And if we get people started, especially
- 8:28Speaker 5: when they're younger, maybe they can do this throughout throughout
- 8:32Speaker 5: the decades. Like most of our poll workers seem to
- 8:34Speaker 5: be more of the senior citizens, and they've done it,
- 8:37Speaker 5: and that provides a confidence level that they know what
- 8:40Speaker 5: they're doing, they know the people, they know the systems.
- 8:44Speaker 5: But you know, we have introduced these electronic voting machines,
- 8:48Speaker 5: the express votes systems. They're not connected to the internet.
- 8:52Speaker 5: Some counties have the electronic poll book. So we are
- 8:55Speaker 5: using technology and getting ahead in the security year realm.
- 9:01Speaker 5: But sometimes that new technology causes some concern, whereas with
- 9:05Speaker 5: the younger people that are very accustomed to, you know,
- 9:08Speaker 5: working on the computers and the technology advances and so forth.
- 9:11Speaker 5: So it's nice to have that mix of both more
- 9:14Speaker 5: senior people with a younger group demographic that's very comfortable
- 9:18Speaker 5: with the most up to date electronic equipment.
- 9:21Speaker 3: And you know, we see Secretary in the news about
- 9:25Speaker 3: some issues in other states with as it comes to election.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Matter of fact, I've watched a piece over the weekend
- 9:31Speaker 3: that in Georgia that there were threats made against poll
- 9:33Speaker 3: workers and things of that nature. That that simply does
- 9:36Speaker 3: not happen in West Virginia, Sir.
- 9:39Speaker 5: We do not have those problems at all here in
- 9:41Speaker 5: West Virginia haven't had those sort of complaints. I'm surprised
- 9:44Speaker 5: you saw anything other than football this week.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Oh yeah, how about them Cowboys. Gonna throw that in there.
- 9:48Speaker 3: How about them.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Cowboy the Cowboys, the Mountaineers, and then the marshaling teams. Yeah,
- 9:53Speaker 5: so it was a good week weekend for football here
- 9:55Speaker 5: in West Virginia. But no, we don't have those problems.
- 9:58Speaker 5: With the fact we leave the nation with election integrity,
- 10:01Speaker 5: we have so many of these advances we have to
- 10:02Speaker 5: see something, text something, so if somebody sees a problem,
- 10:06Speaker 5: you can text it in. We have investigators all over
- 10:08Speaker 5: the state. Everybody knows West Virginia takes election and take
- 10:11Speaker 5: it very seriously, and so we don't have those issues.
- 10:15Speaker 5: We don't have drop boxes. Our legislature has just done
- 10:18Speaker 5: a good job of laying out the rules for running
- 10:20Speaker 5: an election. We abide by that, the clerks abide by that.
- 10:23Speaker 5: And by the way, this poll worker training starts this
- 10:25Speaker 5: next week, so right now is the time to be
- 10:28Speaker 5: signing up and talking about poll workers. Because the training starts,
- 10:32Speaker 5: you do get paid for that training. So if you
- 10:34Speaker 5: sign up, you go to the training and you get
- 10:36Speaker 5: paid fifty hours for a couple hours of the training.
- 10:40Speaker 5: Even if you aren't used as a poll worker on
- 10:42Speaker 5: election day, you do get that training and you're on
- 10:45Speaker 5: the list then to be called if something does happen.
- 10:48Speaker 5: So again it's not a crisis, but it is a need.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Right now, we're trying to identify people so that we
- 10:56Speaker 5: have the full lists, full alternate list as well, should
- 11:00Speaker 5: something arise.
- 11:01Speaker 3: And most of what I found in my experience, most
- 11:03Speaker 3: of the county clerks, especially in the larger counties, take
- 11:07Speaker 3: Kenawah County, for example, Clerk McCormick has several several poleworker sessions,
- 11:12Speaker 3: training sessions, so summer early in the morning, summer in
- 11:15Speaker 3: the evening, some are in the middle of the day,
- 11:17Speaker 3: so they can pretty much work within each schedule. So
- 11:19Speaker 3: again in our immediate listing area, can all Putnam, Fayett, Boone, Cable,
- 11:23Speaker 3: just some of the counties that could use, as you said,
- 11:26Speaker 3: not really crisis level, but could use to get some
- 11:28Speaker 3: more poll workers names on the book. What's the best
- 11:31Speaker 3: way again for them to sign up?
- 11:32Speaker 6: Sir?
- 11:33Speaker 5: Call the county clerk, let them know. You can go
- 11:35Speaker 5: through your party Republican Democrat Party, let your county chair. No,
- 11:39Speaker 5: we'll get that information at kirk or go to our
- 11:41Speaker 5: website go gowb dot com, which put your information in
- 11:47Speaker 5: the information that tab there and I will get that
- 11:50Speaker 5: information to the county clerk. So we've already had four
- 11:53Speaker 5: hundred and seventy eight Epstein ballots come in here in
- 11:56Speaker 5: Kanawah County. This election is underway. Still registered to vote
- 12:01Speaker 5: if you haven't registered, you can do that up into
- 12:02Speaker 5: October fifteenth, and then the early voting starts October twenty third.
- 12:08Speaker 5: So this election is upon us, and now's the time
- 12:11Speaker 5: if you have any interest at all, sign up to
- 12:13Speaker 5: be a poll worker or encourage somebody in your family
- 12:16Speaker 5: or a friend or relative to do so. Let's make
- 12:20Speaker 5: this the secure election ever and it begins with the
- 12:22Speaker 5: poll worker training.
- 12:24Speaker 3: All right, Secretary Wanner, I appreciate you. We'll talk again soon.
- 12:26Speaker 7: Man, thanks a lot, thank they could being with you.

- 12:51Speaker 3: know I'm a former employee the Western Region Secretary of
- 12:53Speaker 3: State's Office, and I will say this a couple of
- 12:55Speaker 3: things that I saw when I was out covering elections.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Because they have a team of thirty forty people normally
- 13:02Speaker 3: on election day out on the road going to every
- 13:06Speaker 3: somebody will visit every county in the sate of West Virginia,
- 13:09Speaker 3: in every precinct. It seems like sometimes I did it,
- 13:11Speaker 3: but I'd cover you know, seven eight counties maybe in
- 13:14Speaker 3: a day back when I was doing that sort of work.
- 13:17Speaker 3: And a couple of the things that I found if
- 13:19Speaker 3: you were planning on being a pollworker, that you just
- 13:21Speaker 3: may want to know. Number One, probably the biggest issue
- 13:24Speaker 3: that the election officials have is people coming into the
- 13:29Speaker 3: polling place with a T shirt, a hat, a jacket
- 13:32Speaker 3: or whatever that says vote for so and so. You
- 13:34Speaker 3: can't do that. You cannot walk, You cannot get within
- 13:37Speaker 3: one hundred feet of the voting location wearing a T
- 13:41Speaker 3: shirt that says vote for Joe Smith for Board of Education.
- 13:43Speaker 3: You cannot do that, all right, So just know that
- 13:45Speaker 3: you can't have a Trump pat you can't have a
- 13:47Speaker 3: Biden T shirt or anything like that when you walk
- 13:50Speaker 3: into the polling place. That's one. Number Two, you need
- 13:53Speaker 3: to put away the phones because that became a thing
- 13:57Speaker 3: a little bit later on, is people would want to
- 13:59Speaker 3: go in and take pictures of there of who they
- 14:01Speaker 3: voted for. You cannot do that. That is illegal. You
- 14:04Speaker 3: could be prosecuted for that. So no cell phones. I'm
- 14:07Speaker 3: not saying you can't take it in your pocket, and
- 14:09Speaker 3: that goes for the Paul workers too. Just know that.
- 14:12Speaker 3: All right, we're going to take a break. The special session,
- 14:14Speaker 3: of course continue should wrap up today. We're going to
- 14:16Speaker 3: talk to a delegate, Kaylee Young about that a little
- 14:18Speaker 3: bit later on. Plus we're going to talk to Brad
- 14:20Speaker 3: Michaelhenny who is standing by at the Capitol. Will go
- 14:23Speaker 3: to him next right after this. I'm the voice of

- 16:13Speaker 3: fifty eight Tony the Taylor Text three zero four nine
- 16:16Speaker 3: three five five zero zero A Texas Dave. How about
- 16:19Speaker 3: that waste of time and embarrassment of a resolution of
- 16:22Speaker 3: five Republican delegates are putting up talk about election interference
- 16:25Speaker 3: or West Virgin's complacent with false election accusations, the degradation
- 16:30Speaker 3: of the electoral process and setting the stage to refuse
- 16:32Speaker 3: certification if Trump loses Westernrginion. Republicans want to throw it
- 16:36Speaker 3: all the way for Donald Trump. It is pathetic, says
- 16:40Speaker 3: a text. Well this has to do well, let's tell
- 16:42Speaker 3: you what. Let's go ahead and bring in Brad mclaheney. Brad,
- 16:44Speaker 3: good morning, welcome to the show.
- 16:46Speaker 7: Oh hi, good morning. What have I stumbled into?
- 16:48Speaker 3: Well? I was going to ask you about that, but
- 16:50Speaker 3: it wasn't going to be the first thing. But since
- 16:52Speaker 3: the text we brought it up, this resolution that was
- 16:54Speaker 3: brought forth on Sunday, I guess by a group of
- 16:56Speaker 3: Republican lawmakers. You know it's it has no teeth. It's
- 17:02Speaker 3: and Hopy wrote about it in his commentary today. It's
- 17:05Speaker 3: not going to go anywhere, or so on and so forth.
- 17:07Speaker 3: But basically, and this is a very this is very
- 17:09Speaker 3: much so Brad me paraphrasing. You may have the exact
- 17:12Speaker 3: language in front of you. Basically, there were a group
- 17:14Speaker 3: of five Republican legislators got together and said that they
- 17:18Speaker 3: the West Virginia won't recognize an election. And they were
- 17:23Speaker 3: very they were very what's word I'm looking for, They
- 17:28Speaker 3: were specific in what they were talking about as far
- 17:32Speaker 3: as parties go, and that if a Republican candidate was
- 17:36Speaker 3: a victim of an assassination attempt or whatever, that West
- 17:41Speaker 3: Virginia would not recognize the person that became president. That
- 17:45Speaker 3: pretty much accurate, That's right.
- 17:48Speaker 7: And it talks about illegal immigrants voting in some states
- 17:52Speaker 7: and the possibility of thereof.
- 17:55Speaker 10: And so is.
- 17:58Speaker 7: Very forward look in terms of if this happens, then
- 18:03Speaker 7: that happens, uh, very much paving the way for West
- 18:10Speaker 7: Virginia objections to electoral outcomes. And so you know, you've
- 18:16Speaker 7: already said it. If you want to read a little
- 18:18Speaker 7: more about it. Hoppy's commentary on the West Virginia Metro
- 18:21Speaker 7: News site UH spells it out a bit more. UH.
- 18:24Speaker 7: This is House Concurrent Resolution two three UH and it
- 18:29Speaker 7: is sponsored by delegates riding now Our Mazaki, Dylan Longen, Acre,
- 18:34Speaker 7: Coop Gonzales, Foster, Foggin and Steel. Foster is the only
- 18:39Speaker 7: one I think who is a canav Valley delegate. It
- 18:44Speaker 7: truly isn't going to go anywhere. The special session, I
- 18:47Speaker 7: think is going to wrap up today. It was assigned
- 18:49Speaker 7: to committee, the Judiciary Committee. But you know, as a
- 18:54Speaker 7: matter of symbolism, I think it's very interesting and it
- 18:59Speaker 7: I think it's show a light on what representatives in
- 19:04Speaker 7: the West Virginia legislature who occupy the right wing political
- 19:08Speaker 7: space think, and so in some ways I find it useful.
- 19:12Speaker 7: I mean, they've just put it here on paper, and
- 19:14Speaker 7: so you know, if you're curious about what the right
- 19:19Speaker 7: wing is thinking, and they they have a certain amount
- 19:23Speaker 7: of power in the legislature, they don't often get a
- 19:27Speaker 7: lot of coverage, but they are representatives who are sent
- 19:32Speaker 7: by the citizens of their communities. So I think in
- 19:37Speaker 7: that way it's interesting just that it's on paper and
- 19:40Speaker 7: this is what they're thinking and what is top of mind.
- 19:44Speaker 7: For them is all of the possible ways that you
- 19:48Speaker 7: could potentially object to the election.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Well, and let's keep in mind that we still have
- 19:51Speaker 3: a campaign going on, and these delegates are up for
- 19:54Speaker 3: re election, some of them running out of posed and
- 19:55Speaker 3: some of them aren't. And they over the next couple
- 19:58Speaker 3: of weeks while they're wrapping up their campaign, if there's
- 20:00Speaker 3: a you know, meet the candidate forum. Of course, early
- 20:02Speaker 3: voting is going to start here pretty soon. They have
- 20:04Speaker 3: the opportunity to go, well, look what I did in Charleston,
- 20:06Speaker 3: Look what I brought up. And in certain areas of
- 20:09Speaker 3: the state, that's going to get a round of applause.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Others people are just going to shake their head and know,
- 20:13Speaker 3: what the hell is this all about? Are you nuts?
- 20:16Speaker 3: And that's happening. As a matter of fact, I have
- 20:17Speaker 3: a text here if it says I'm a Republican Dave.
- 20:20Speaker 3: That resolution is the dumbest thing I've seen in all
- 20:23Speaker 3: of twenty twenty four. They embarrassed the Republican Party. And
- 20:26Speaker 3: it goes on to mention one of the delegates in particular,
- 20:29Speaker 3: and I won't get into name call it and things
- 20:30Speaker 3: of that nature, but you know, this is not representative
- 20:34Speaker 3: of the entire Republican Party.
- 20:37Speaker 7: This is a small group even within the Republican supermajority.
- 20:41Speaker 7: So it's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight delegates.
- 20:46Speaker 7: The how many my mind is slipping. I think there's
- 20:50Speaker 7: eleven Democrats, so that makes eighty nine Republicans in the
- 20:55Speaker 7: House of Delegates. So you know, just a small group
- 20:58Speaker 7: of them. But again, this is this is clearly top
- 21:04Speaker 7: of mind to them. And I think it's maybe the
- 21:06Speaker 7: nationalization and the the addiction to cable news that people have.
- 21:11Speaker 7: This this reflects I think all in all, it's it's
- 21:16Speaker 7: not nearly a West Virginia issue. As much as the
- 21:20Speaker 7: crumbling roads and bridges, the fallout of the opioid epidemic,
- 21:25Speaker 7: the the thousands of kids in foster care, all of
- 21:28Speaker 7: those would be top of mind for me for issues
- 21:33Speaker 7: for the West Virginia legislature to actually address. But you
- 21:38Speaker 7: can see here that, uh, these lawmakers have taken their
- 21:42Speaker 7: time to sign on to a bill projecting possibilities for
- 21:46Speaker 7: election interference.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Well, and perhaps it's level and perhaps let's look in
- 21:49Speaker 3: the mirror a little bit, because I brought it up
- 21:51Speaker 3: yesterday and as I said, Hoppy wrote about and others
- 21:54Speaker 3: you know, this is not going to go anywhere. It's
- 21:57Speaker 3: it's just it's it's just blowharding, that is all it
- 21:59Speaker 3: is by apparently a group of delegates who think we
- 22:02Speaker 3: have nothing better to do in the state of West
- 22:04Speaker 3: Virginia than to go after this stuff. In the meantime,
- 22:06Speaker 3: we got childcare issues, We did get somewhere on animal talks.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Kaylee Young about that a little bit later on. But
- 22:12Speaker 3: we also celebrated, and I understand it was like a
- 22:14Speaker 3: dance party there yesterday. Brad, you were there. The Roads
- 22:16Speaker 3: to Prosperity the voters approved in twenty eighteen. Is that right?
- 22:21Speaker 7: It is right, and you know so let me just observe.
- 22:25Speaker 7: First October seventh, Governor Justice is very focused on as
- 22:30Speaker 7: the seventh anniversary of the passage of the Roads to
- 22:34Speaker 7: Prosperity Amendment, which allowed West Virginia to draw down bond
- 22:39Speaker 7: money to borrow to pay for major highway repairs. You know,
- 22:44Speaker 7: that was a significant policy choice. West Virginia's roads have
- 22:48Speaker 7: been in need of upgrade, so I'm not going to
- 22:52Speaker 7: quibble with him on the policy choice. The October seventh date,
- 22:57Speaker 7: though that he insisted on a celebration of highway repairs
- 23:03Speaker 7: did coincide, though, with the national and international observance of
- 23:08Speaker 7: the one year anniversary of Hamas's invasion of Israel that
- 23:13Speaker 7: killed you know, so many innocent Israelis as well as
- 23:18Speaker 7: members of the Israeli military surprise sneak attack. The country
- 23:22Speaker 7: has been at war ever since, and so the dance party,
- 23:30Speaker 7: as you called it, I think was an unfortunate timetable
- 23:36Speaker 7: when there was also essentially a day of morning regarding Israel.
- 23:40Speaker 7: The other thing I will say is I was in
- 23:42Speaker 7: the House Finance room where we were trying to listen
- 23:45Speaker 7: to a pretty serious conversation about the public Employee's insurance
- 23:49Speaker 7: agency and it's recurring financial struggles. Those have arisen again
- 23:55Speaker 7: and it is a challenging.
- 24:00Speaker 6: To listen to.
- 24:00Speaker 7: You you really want to hear the specific numbers and
- 24:04Speaker 7: you know, are how is it going to affect people's
- 24:08Speaker 7: insurance rates everything else? And outside that room was the
- 24:13Speaker 7: throb of celebration by cooling the gang.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Uh it was.
- 24:17Speaker 7: It was really distracting. And I'm not necessarily complaining, Well
- 24:21Speaker 7: maybe i am, because I was. I was really trying
- 24:24Speaker 7: to hear. All I could hear was celebration.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Why do you hate cooling the gang, Brad, why do
- 24:29Speaker 3: you hate cooling?
- 24:30Speaker 7: Well, why can't America just love and dance?
- 24:33Speaker 3: Yes? Yeah, Why do you have to be.
- 24:35Speaker 7: So deeply into policy, Brad? I just wanted to hear
- 24:38Speaker 7: about PI.
- 24:38Speaker 3: A great moments in bad timing, Brad, let me ask
- 24:41Speaker 3: you about the I guess you could call it a
- 24:43Speaker 3: tax compromise. I mean word broke around noon one issue
- 24:46Speaker 3: or so yesterday that they went from five percent to
- 24:48Speaker 3: two percent, and I know Sente financial ear guitar urged
- 24:52Speaker 3: to urge support yesterday on the floor. As matter of fact,
- 24:55Speaker 3: Citar is going to be on the show tomorrow to
- 24:56Speaker 3: talk about that. What do you make of all?
- 24:58Speaker 7: That? Kind of unexpected to me? Because the governor called
- 25:03Speaker 7: for this July first, then said he was going to
- 25:06Speaker 7: call a special session. That date was September thirtieth, right,
- 25:11Speaker 7: And then the legislature did go in for the special
- 25:14Speaker 7: session for one day on the day he called it
- 25:17Speaker 7: and said, eh, we need to cool our heels for
- 25:19Speaker 7: a week and consider this matter. Then when they came
- 25:23Speaker 7: back Sunday evening, there was no evidence that progress had
- 25:26Speaker 7: been made. The House Finance Committee came and went with
- 25:30Speaker 7: no discussion. The House finance chairman, I think, in a
- 25:34Speaker 7: very upfront fashion, said I don't really know where things stand.
- 25:37Speaker 7: I have just conducted a two hour meeting. Far as
- 25:40Speaker 7: I know, people are still in talks. A week had
- 25:43Speaker 7: pass and I thought, oh, we're still in talks. So
- 25:47Speaker 7: I thought that there was really a cloud over it.
- 25:49Speaker 7: I would have called myself pessimistic about the odds of passage.
- 25:53Speaker 7: But there was some give. The governor and his representatives
- 25:57Speaker 7: reduced the tax cut amount from the proposed five percent
- 26:02Speaker 7: down to two percent instead, Instead of one hundred and
- 26:05Speaker 7: ten million dollars, that's going to be about forty six
- 26:08Speaker 7: million dollars. And then the administration got a little more
- 26:12Speaker 7: specific on how to pay for it. Part of it
- 26:14Speaker 7: is panned down a bond and then not having to
- 26:17Speaker 7: make those bond payments. I think they said about n
- 26:20Speaker 7: eighteen million dollars from that, and then the rest is
- 26:23Speaker 7: a little vague to me, but they say they're going
- 26:26Speaker 7: to get it from efficiencies through the division of DHHR
- 26:32Speaker 7: into the three new agencies. To me, that still lends
- 26:37Speaker 7: the risk of less efficiency to have the three agencies
- 26:41Speaker 7: instead of than one. But that's where they say they're
- 26:43Speaker 7: coming up with the remainder of the money. That was
- 26:47Speaker 7: enough between lowering the overall amount and coming up with
- 26:51Speaker 7: specific ways to say you're going to pay for the
- 26:54Speaker 7: loss of state revenue for people who had applied their
- 26:58Speaker 7: critical thinking, like Senate Finance Mantaur to feel more confident.
- 27:02Speaker 7: And so where we stand at this moment is the
- 27:05Speaker 7: Senate just went ahead and passed it one, two, three
- 27:08Speaker 7: votes of consideration yesterday afternoon and it's out the Senate door.
- 27:14Speaker 7: The House is applying a little more process, but fully
- 27:17Speaker 7: anticipate the House will take it up. And I think
- 27:20Speaker 7: this may be the last day of special session.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Well I'm hearing m That's what I'm hearing.
- 27:26Speaker 7: Yeah, I think I think it will be. I don't
- 27:28Speaker 7: think anybody wants to be here longer than they have
- 27:31Speaker 7: to be. And you know, the Governor has added more
- 27:33Speaker 7: things to the call Saturday and yesterday, and the longer
- 27:37Speaker 7: we stay, the more the temptation is like, here's seven
- 27:41Speaker 7: more things.
- 27:42Speaker 5: How about it?
- 27:42Speaker 3: While you're here, you may play, celebrate, and spend all right,
- 27:47Speaker 3: So if it probably will wrap up today, anything in
- 27:50Speaker 3: particular other than what you've already mentioned that Brad you'll
- 27:52Speaker 3: be looking at today.
- 27:53Speaker 7: Well, if we're leading into Delegate Young. You know, there
- 27:56Speaker 7: was a childcare tax credit that has gone through the House,
- 28:02Speaker 7: that was voted through the House. It's favored by a
- 28:06Speaker 7: governor Justice. He's talked about that one for months now,
- 28:10Speaker 7: up for probably passage. I think today in the Senate
- 28:14Speaker 7: a couple things about that. Delegate Young can get a
- 28:16Speaker 7: little more to the detail. But Democrats objected it didn't
- 28:20Speaker 7: object to the tax credit idea, but to a bit
- 28:24Speaker 7: of the structure. My takeaway was that they think if
- 28:28Speaker 7: it were restructured a bit more, West Virginians could be
- 28:32Speaker 7: guaranteed to take advantage of it. And then secondly that
- 28:37Speaker 7: there is not disagreement that the tax credit would be beneficial.
- 28:42Speaker 7: I think people think it could be part of the
- 28:44Speaker 7: overall relief of pressures on West Virginia's childcare system. But
- 28:52Speaker 7: a lot of belief among the legislators that really the
- 28:55Speaker 7: states should be doing more because it's a multi prong problem.
- 28:58Speaker 3: And again, as Brad said, with get Della, get Kaylee
- 29:00Speaker 3: Young coming up after the break and sent a financial cheer.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Eric tar will be on the show tomorrow, Brad. I
- 29:04Speaker 3: know you're gonna make a return appearance. I think on
- 29:06Speaker 3: hoppy coming up. But I'm sure you'll be there. It's
- 29:08Speaker 3: just a matter of when it's going to be coming
- 29:10Speaker 3: up next to Brad, I appreciate you being here. I
- 29:12Speaker 3: don't know why you hate Cool in the Gang, but okay.
- 29:15Speaker 7: Do I get exit bumper music? Perhaps you could play
- 29:17Speaker 7: a little Cool in the Gang for me.
- 29:19Speaker 3: All Right, we'll do it next time. Thanks a lot,
- 29:21Speaker 3: Brad mcglheady, twenty four minutes away from ten. But Dave

- 29:43Speaker 3: and we'll go to break and come back with Della
- 29:45Speaker 3: get Kaylee Young Tex says, does Mac Warner, our chief
- 29:48Speaker 3: election officer, still believe the FBI and the CIA colluded
- 29:51Speaker 3: to commit fraud during the twenty twenty election? Also does
- 29:55Speaker 3: Chris Warner believe, like his brother Mac, that there was
- 29:57Speaker 3: election fraud enough, even though the evidence it says there
- 30:00Speaker 3: was not enough to change the results of Trump getting
- 30:02Speaker 3: beaten by Biden. Let me just say this, Yesterday, Secretary
- 30:06Speaker 3: Warner was on with Hoppy and I was listening and
- 30:08Speaker 3: driving and I was listening to some of that interview yesterday,
- 30:10Speaker 3: and Hoppy got some of the same text that I did,
- 30:13Speaker 3: and I got plenty more about Mac Warner. And perhaps
- 30:17Speaker 3: sometimes I see a little overlap because I'll hear Hoppy
- 30:20Speaker 3: read a text and say, well, you know, I had
- 30:21Speaker 3: that same text on my show today, which is fine,
- 30:23Speaker 3: we appreciate. We want you to It's called TSL in
- 30:25Speaker 3: the business time spent listening. We want you to stay
- 30:28Speaker 3: with the with the with the w CCHS all day.
- 30:30Speaker 3: I just don't think it was the o proper time.
- 30:33Speaker 3: I was here to talk about a particular subject, and
- 30:35Speaker 3: that was the need for poll workers. I have, I
- 30:38Speaker 3: have been, and you know, full disclosure, I used to
- 30:41Speaker 3: work for Mac Warner. I've said this, But did I
- 30:43Speaker 3: agree with everything Mac Warner did?
- 30:45Speaker 11: No?
- 30:46Speaker 3: If I agreed that everything he's done since I've left,
- 30:48Speaker 3: know how many people actually believe and fall in line
- 30:51Speaker 3: with what their boss says on everything.
- 30:53Speaker 2: You know.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Uh, and we have some differences of opinions on that.
- 30:57Speaker 3: I'll get out of that. Ask for Chris Warner, of course,
- 31:00Speaker 3: he is the Republican candidate to take over for his
- 31:02Speaker 3: brother for Secretary of State. Chris Warner has been on
- 31:05Speaker 3: this show, and Chris Warner is always welcome. And as
- 31:09Speaker 3: we get closer and closer to November fifth, I'm going
- 31:11Speaker 3: to have more candidate interviews, so I'll talk to Oh.
- 31:14Speaker 3: I ask Chris Warner that myself when he's on the show.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Text says, the people who wrote that resolution that you
- 31:22Speaker 3: referred to are part of the unofficial Warner Caucus of
- 31:25Speaker 3: the Legislature. I haven't heard that before. Tex says we
- 31:27Speaker 3: should be celebrating that. Potentially we could be placing a
- 31:32Speaker 3: Woody Williams memorial in the Capitol. That's something everyone can
- 31:36Speaker 3: be proud of. I would agree with that. Text says
- 31:42Speaker 3: the case of the election resolution is nothing more than
- 31:44Speaker 3: getting caught trying effort and people have noticed. Mission accomplished,
- 31:48Speaker 3: says the text. Texas says on the two percent tax cut,
- 31:51Speaker 3: Justice did the right thing for the wrong reason. He
- 31:54Speaker 3: was likely thinking legacy, and that's all fine. I suppose
- 31:56Speaker 3: in reality the two percent will test the formulas and
- 31:59Speaker 3: triggers in place to move closer to zero. That's the
- 32:01Speaker 3: over that's over arching, not to talked about goal. We
- 32:06Speaker 3: should continue to test the formula to find the right
- 32:08Speaker 3: place and the curve for the lowest income tax possible
- 32:10Speaker 3: to meet the basics while putting more money back into
- 32:12Speaker 3: the economy to drive more economic activity. The exercise alone
- 32:16Speaker 3: is worth the effort. This move will also put the
- 32:18Speaker 3: income tax as a percentage of our total revenue closer
- 32:21Speaker 3: to that of the sales tax. The momentum is there
- 32:24Speaker 3: to begin discussing a move to have a sales tax
- 32:26Speaker 3: overtake the income tax in that regard tax consumption, not income,
- 32:30Speaker 3: and we'll find a better mix. In my humble opinion, Well,
- 32:32Speaker 3: that was a long tax, long tax. Fingers and thumbs
- 32:36Speaker 3: and whatever must be tired. We're going to take a
- 32:38Speaker 3: break when we come back where you're going to go
- 32:40Speaker 3: back to the Capital and we're gonna speak live with
- 32:41Speaker 3: delicate Kaylee Young, who's on the Capitol grounds as we speak.

- 35:05Speaker 3: Eighteen minutes away from ten. Ryan Nicholson, Desire producer Today,
- 35:08Speaker 3: welcome back to the show. We are going to go
- 35:10Speaker 3: to delicate Kaylee Young at the Capitol here momentarily, but
- 35:12Speaker 3: we got breaking news. Let's go to the newsroom for
- 35:14Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence. Chris, good morning, Well, good morning Dave.
- 35:16Speaker 6: Evidently there was a wreck of a semi around two
- 35:19Speaker 6: thirty this morning on Interstate sixty four. It happened around
- 35:23Speaker 6: the Putnam Cabal County line between Hurricane and Milton, and it's.
- 35:27Speaker 5: Off the road.
- 35:28Speaker 6: However, in order to remove that tractor trailer, Hurricane police
- 35:32Speaker 6: tell me they're going to have to shut down sixty
- 35:34Speaker 6: four between those two exits for the next hour or so.
- 35:38Speaker 6: So the detour will be from Milton and Hurricane over
- 35:41Speaker 6: to Route sixty. So expect to have some congestion in
- 35:46Speaker 6: that area. To get through there for the next hour
- 35:48Speaker 6: or so or however long it takes to remove that
- 35:51Speaker 6: semi from the side of the road.
- 35:52Speaker 3: And this is westbound near Hurricane and Milton westbound.
- 35:55Speaker 6: If you're going toward Huntington, you'll have to get off
- 35:58Speaker 6: and detour at the Hurricane exit over the Round sixty
- 36:01Speaker 6: and vice versa.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Eastbound.
- 36:02Speaker 6: If you're coming from Milton, they'll have that one.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Closed as well. So all right, Chris, I appreciate it.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Matthew I's MA nine forty three of a Dave Island

- 36:19Speaker 3: Let's go now to the Capital. Delicate. Kaylee Young is here, delegate.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Good morning, Good.
- 36:23Speaker 15: Morning, Dave. I literally just walked into the capital.
- 36:26Speaker 3: Perfect time, so you can say, legally, you're in the Capitol, right,
- 36:29Speaker 3: you don't make me out to a lie, right that
- 36:31Speaker 3: you're not Starbucks or something. Okay, all right, so you're
- 36:35Speaker 3: in the building. Lots of news coming out of the
- 36:37Speaker 3: Capitol yesterday a chief of importance to you and others.
- 36:41Speaker 3: The House yesterday passed HB two twenty six, also known
- 36:44Speaker 3: as the Child Independent Care Credit Act. Your thoughts an
- 36:47Speaker 3: exactly delegate on what this does.
- 36:49Speaker 15: So, I'm excited about this bill. It's a tax credit
- 36:52Speaker 15: that mirrors the federal tax credit. About eleven thousand families
- 36:54Speaker 15: in West Virginia have taken it in the past, and
- 36:57Speaker 15: it would provide you a credit back after you've already
- 37:00Speaker 15: paid for childcare. So we know childcare is really expensive
- 37:03Speaker 15: and this would give you a little bit of relief.
- 37:05Speaker 15: It's not a huge credit, and average families in West
- 37:08Speaker 15: Virginia will se about two hundred and twenty seven dollars,
- 37:10Speaker 15: but it could be up to one thousand, depending on
- 37:13Speaker 15: your income and also how much you've paid in childcare.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Now, there was also I understand an amendment that was
- 37:18Speaker 3: proposed to that amendment failed. Can you talk about that?
- 37:21Speaker 3: That's right?
- 37:21Speaker 15: So this text credit is non refundable, meaning that it's
- 37:24Speaker 15: kind of just it lessens your burden for your income taxes.
- 37:28Speaker 15: If we tried to make it refundable yesterday, and it
- 37:30Speaker 15: was a bipartisan vote, but unfortunately it didn't pass. So
- 37:34Speaker 15: if it would have been refundable. Then you would have
- 37:36Speaker 15: gotten it back, you know, if you if you got
- 37:38Speaker 15: a tax refund. So we just wanted to make sure
- 37:40Speaker 15: people would actually see that money. But now they're just
- 37:42Speaker 15: going to get it lowered on their personal income tax
- 37:44Speaker 15: in addition to their personal income text being lower than
- 37:47Speaker 15: years prior.
- 37:48Speaker 3: And I know that you and others. I had you
- 37:50Speaker 3: on the show a couple of weeks ago, and you
- 37:52Speaker 3: and some others, both Republicans and Democrats, had said, look,
- 37:55Speaker 3: you know this, all this talk about the tax cut,
- 37:57Speaker 3: and again they look like they're going to compromise two
- 38:00Speaker 3: percent of what the governor wanted. All that's well and good,
- 38:04Speaker 3: but you and others have said, we got to talk
- 38:05Speaker 3: about childcare above and beyond anything else. Are you happy
- 38:09Speaker 3: that we at least had some discussions that we made
- 38:12Speaker 3: in your opinion, would you go as far as to
- 38:14Speaker 3: say that we actually made we made up a little ground.
- 38:18Speaker 15: We're making up a little ground for parents. We're not
- 38:20Speaker 15: doing anything to stabilize the crisis. And I mean a
- 38:23Speaker 15: childcare center. Bible Center's childcare center just closed this week.
- 38:26Speaker 15: So childcare centers are closing left and right in Charleston
- 38:29Speaker 15: for their infant and two year old rooms. And so
- 38:32Speaker 15: we're making ground, but we're also losing it very quickly.
- 38:35Speaker 15: It's a crisis, and we have to we have to
- 38:37Speaker 15: do a multi pronged approach that not only helps out
- 38:39Speaker 15: families to make sure that they can afford it and
- 38:41Speaker 15: find it, but make sure that these providers stay open
- 38:44Speaker 15: because that's really one of the biggest struggles. And yeah,
- 38:47Speaker 15: it does look like there's going to be a compromise
- 38:49Speaker 15: on the income tax, but they're taking that money from
- 38:51Speaker 15: the Department of Human Services, which is where we could
- 38:54Speaker 15: be funding childcare.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Talking again with special with a delegate to Kayla Jung
- 38:59Speaker 3: on the special session the Capitol and you you are
- 39:01Speaker 3: among the others I think that think that this thing
- 39:04Speaker 3: is going to wrap up today.
- 39:06Speaker 15: I think so that's what we're being told. But you know,
- 39:08Speaker 15: you never know.
- 39:09Speaker 3: What are you looking at today, what's on your schedule today.
- 39:12Speaker 15: We've got another childcare bill today, it's a pilot program.
- 39:15Speaker 15: We've got the income tax bill. I imagine there will
- 39:18Speaker 15: be a fight about some statues. And I'm hoping we
- 39:22Speaker 15: don't see a resolution about overturning an election.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Well that's I wanted to get your take on that.
- 39:27Speaker 3: And again, maybe I'm guiltier or more guilty or equally
- 39:31Speaker 3: guilty with others because, as I said, A Hopy wrote
- 39:33Speaker 3: about it in his commentary today, Brad and I talked
- 39:35Speaker 3: about it. I talked about it yesterday. Maybe we shouldn't
- 39:37Speaker 3: just give attention to things like that. I don't know,
- 39:39Speaker 3: but it's a part of the official record. Your take
- 39:41Speaker 3: on what those five Republicans put forth on Sunday.
- 39:44Speaker 15: It's more than five at this point, more have signed on.
- 39:49Speaker 15: But yeah, I mean to me, I think it's a
- 39:51Speaker 15: really undemocratic, unpatriotic thing to preemptively overturn an election. And
- 39:56Speaker 15: quite frankly, it's been in national news. I've had people
- 39:58Speaker 15: reaching out from all around the country asking about it,
- 40:01Speaker 15: and my own conditionents is terrified. They want their both
- 40:03Speaker 15: to count.
- 40:04Speaker 3: All right, we'll keep an eye on things over there
- 40:06Speaker 3: today with online and on the air. Keyla is Alway,
- 40:10Speaker 3: Delegate Young, I appreciate you being here. We'll talk soon.

- 41:07Speaker 3: reputation as a competent. Uh as competent I should say
- 41:10Speaker 3: in exchange for killing his career by leaning into the
- 41:13Speaker 3: maga cult pathetic. Well, I'll say this, uh, And that's
- 41:16Speaker 3: one of the things that I disagree strongly with Secretary
- 41:19Speaker 3: Warner on. However, I don't know that it's gonna hurt
- 41:22Speaker 3: him here in West Virginia. I mean to be honest
- 41:23Speaker 3: with you. Now, he ran for governor, and of course
- 41:26Speaker 3: he was he was defeated. Uh he uh And and
- 41:29Speaker 3: you know in the Turney General Patrick Morrison got the nominee.
- 41:32Speaker 3: But did it hurt Did that particular thing hurt him
- 41:34Speaker 3: in West Virginia? I mean, I I don't in that
- 41:37Speaker 3: particular primary, I don't think. I don't think it hurt
- 41:40Speaker 3: him that much. I think what uh what hurt him
- 41:43Speaker 3: was like cash and that's that's what I think hurt him. Texas, Ironically,
- 41:47Speaker 3: Mac makes me less confident in our election process. Tex says,
- 41:51Speaker 3: you always protect Mac Warner. You know he's alt right
- 41:54Speaker 3: and bear some of the blame for the attacks on
- 41:55Speaker 3: poll workers, but they're wor not in West Virginia. Who
- 41:59Speaker 3: wants to work a poll for or stopped to steal
- 42:00Speaker 3: when he'll just lie that the CIA rigged the election
- 42:03Speaker 3: and he'll bring in the trader Mike Flynn, who lies
- 42:05Speaker 3: about the deep state stealing an election? Why caught all
- 42:08Speaker 3: these authoritarian leaning weirdos? Tell me how I differentiate who
- 42:12Speaker 3: is deep state and who's just a poll worker. This
- 42:14Speaker 3: is what happens when we pretend that the fantasy of
- 42:16Speaker 3: rigged elections is worthy of debate. It's insidious. It should
- 42:19Speaker 3: be dead and buried. Well again, Mike Warner, whoever the
- 42:21Speaker 3: Secretary of State is, cannot do anything about protecting poll
- 42:26Speaker 3: workers in other states. There have been no issues here
- 42:28Speaker 3: in West Virginia. However, again, Mick and I don't agree
- 42:32Speaker 3: on everything, and I referenced the story that I saw
- 42:37Speaker 3: on television over the weekend out of Georgia where they
- 42:39Speaker 3: read emails where people were threatened, and think, now, there's
- 42:41Speaker 3: no place for that. There's absolutely no place for that.
- 42:44Speaker 3: And we have a shortage of poll workers in West Virginia. Again,
- 42:49Speaker 3: a secretary set it's not necessarily a crisis level at
- 42:52Speaker 3: this point, but in some of our listening areas Cannah, Putnam,
- 42:55Speaker 3: there were like eight ten counties or so outside of
- 42:58Speaker 3: our listing areas, many of them that could use extra
- 43:01Speaker 3: poll workers at this point. I don't know that anybody
- 43:04Speaker 3: in West Virginia, though, is going to look at what
- 43:07Speaker 3: goes on in other states and think, well, I don't
- 43:08Speaker 3: want to be a poll worker because that happens here.
- 43:10Speaker 3: Because it doesn't. However, it's a good point. Maybe it does,
- 43:14Speaker 3: I mean, or maybe people could think that way. I'll

- 49:03Speaker 3: tomorrow night at Saint Albans and discussed the fate of
- 49:05Speaker 3: McKinley Middle School. I've had Conawa County School Superintendent Tom
- 49:10Speaker 3: Williams on the show in the past to talk about
- 49:12Speaker 3: it as well as other board members including Rick Cavender,
- 49:15Speaker 3: and the answers are the same, older buildings. It takes
- 49:18Speaker 3: way too much money to keep up the maintenance on
- 49:20Speaker 3: these building and declining enrollment, more and more parents are
- 49:24Speaker 3: simply choosing other options for their kids' education, be at homeschooling,
- 49:27Speaker 3: private school, whatever. And it's especially a problem in Kanawa
- 49:31Speaker 3: County and no community wants to lose their schools. Schools,
- 49:37Speaker 3: as you know, for many in community, especially smaller ones,
- 49:40Speaker 3: are kind of like the bedrock. It's where the meetings
- 49:42Speaker 3: are hell, that's where the scouts go and water projects
- 49:45Speaker 3: are discussed and carnivals and things of that nature. But
- 49:48Speaker 3: the times are changing and something has got to give.
- 49:53Speaker 3: And with all due respect to Superintendent Williams for end
- 49:55Speaker 3: of the show and the Board of ED members don't
- 49:57Speaker 3: listen to the public input, but most would agree that
- 50:00Speaker 3: the decisions to close, consolidate, whatever you want to call it,
- 50:03Speaker 3: have already pretty much been made. Now that doesn't mean
- 50:05Speaker 3: that you should not make your voices heard at these
- 50:07Speaker 3: meetings though, so get out there and tell them what
- 50:09Speaker 3: you think. It is a sad reality though of where
- 50:13Speaker 3: we are The Dave Island Show in five any live
- 50:15Speaker 3: bride to part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston
- 50:17Speaker 3: Dirty Birds. The Birds and our sister station to beat

- 50:31Speaker 3: are free and they're available at our studios doing normal
- 50:34Speaker 3: business hours eleven eleven Virginia Street East and Charleston. Let
- 50:38Speaker 3: me see, Texas Dave. Instead of giving rich people public
- 50:41Speaker 3: school tax dollars to put their kids in private schools
- 50:44Speaker 3: and charter schools, we need to help working families with childcare,
- 50:47Speaker 3: says a Texture Texas Dave. When people see these right
- 50:50Speaker 3: wingers out of about, we need to confront them no
- 50:52Speaker 3: matter where they are. They can't hide, says a Texture.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Texta says Dave mac Warner one of the reasons people
- 51:00Speaker 3: are not working the polls because he thinks the election
- 51:02Speaker 3: was fixed. Well, I think he's done a pretty good
- 51:04Speaker 3: job of saying that we don't have issues in West Virginia.
- 51:07Speaker 3: But so, I think he's done a pretty good job
- 51:09Speaker 3: of that. Coming up on the show tomorrow, among other things,
- 51:11Speaker 3: we're gonna talk about to talk about the Girl Scouts.
- 51:14Speaker 3: I don't know if we can still call them girl
- 51:15Speaker 3: Scouts anymore. Scouts. Girl Scouts are okay, Ryan, but the
- 51:19Speaker 3: boy Scouts are not. It's just scouts, Is that right? Okay?
- 51:22Speaker 5: All right?
- 51:22Speaker 3: Also, sin a financier Eric Tarr will be on the
- 51:24Speaker 3: show tomorrow as well. The Dave Allen showing five Dye

- 51:31Speaker 3: ann Aneta's Chocolate chip Cookie only twenty three ninety nine
- 51:36Speaker 3: Texas Dave hard to imagine Delegate Young truly cares about
- 51:39Speaker 3: West Virginia's votes counting. Since she led the charge to
- 51:42Speaker 3: install Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party quote nominee for president,
- 51:46Speaker 3: not one single West Virginia Democratic voter has voted for Harris,
- 51:50Speaker 3: and many West Virginia Democrats left the party because of him, Texas, Dave,
- 51:55Speaker 3: kind of funny how democrats constantly spew there made up
- 51:57Speaker 3: bs terms of misinformation disinformation and claim everything they don't
- 52:01Speaker 3: like or can't rebut is a conspiracy theory over and over,
- 52:05Speaker 3: says a lot when they refuse to acknowledge that those
- 52:07Speaker 3: things have always been true. Tex says, the fact is
- 52:11Speaker 3: Macwarner's permanently ruined his reputation. When history writes about him,
- 52:14Speaker 3: they'll write about him holding a stop to steal sign.
- 52:16Speaker 3: What a sad legacy to leave. All right, we got
- 52:18Speaker 3: to go. Thank you so much to all our callers
- 52:20Speaker 3: and textures, the afore mentioned Secretary of Saint Macwarner for
- 52:23Speaker 3: being on the show today. Also Brad mclhenny, who's doing
