- 0:00Speaker 1: Woo!
- 0:01Speaker 2: Still gots.
- 0:01Speaker 1: Woo!
- 0:02Speaker 3: I gotta be honest with you, Bruce, there's a good
- 0:03Speaker 3: chance I'd be high anyway.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Woo!
- 0:05Speaker 4: And I'm wondering how the football weekend was. Were you
- 0:07Speaker 4: able to watch it? Wow, what happened? Oh, I'm tired
- 0:12Speaker 4: of him.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I'm serious.
- 0:13Speaker 4: How about that?
- 0:14Speaker 2: In company. We are mother shuckers, baby.
- 0:17Speaker 4: Woo!
- 0:17Speaker 1: Bruce, does Faison Brandon's name sound like it's on backwards?
- 0:20Speaker 4: No doubt.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It's time to get your.
- 0:23Speaker 1: It's time to get your racket to get the all boat,
- 0:27Speaker 1: the all boat.
- 0:28Speaker 4: You got nothing right there.
- 0:29Speaker 1: This is not going well.
- 0:31Speaker 2: This is still gots and company.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Sal Licata with us.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Gary Sheffield going to join us in set number two. Sal,
- 0:39Speaker 3: I have no idea. By the way, the Sal Licata show,
- 0:41Speaker 3: wherever you get your podcast, he's killing it. I don't
- 0:44Speaker 3: know what to do with these two because Taylor is unhinged.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Mikey A not nearly as unhinged because the Yankees are
- 0:50Speaker 3: down too low.
- 0:50Speaker 4: And we all know.
- 0:51Speaker 3: A series doesn't start until a road team gets a victory.
- 0:56Speaker 3: They go back to Yankee Stadium. I do not know
- 0:58Speaker 3: what to do with my two producers here, Taylor and
- 1:01Speaker 3: Mikey A, because they feel like the season's over already,
- 1:04Speaker 3: and I'm telling them, hey, just hold serve, and anything
- 1:06Speaker 3: can happen in a game five.
- 1:08Speaker 4: How about that?
- 1:09Speaker 2: The only thing I would say, to be fair to Taylor,
- 1:11Speaker 2: and I don't know Mikey A as much on this one,
- 1:13Speaker 2: Taylor has been critical of this Yankee team basically since
- 1:15Speaker 2: first pitch. I mean, going in, it was his least
- 1:18Speaker 2: favorite team ever. But then there were points along the
- 1:21Speaker 2: way that it was like, oh, okay, Austin Wells bobblehead.
- 1:25Speaker 2: He's all excited about Austin Wells. I'm with you, though, Stu.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It's shocking that we need to be the voice of reason.
- 1:30Speaker 2: It's a series. What would you expect, like? They're down 0-2,
- 1:35Speaker 2: but they are coming home with three of the best
- 1:37Speaker 2: pitchers in the game lined up to go in the
- 1:39Speaker 2: next games, assuming that they could get there. Games three, four,
- 1:41Speaker 2: and five, obviously. I would expect the offense to get
- 1:43Speaker 2: going a little bit. They may lose, sure, but to
- 1:46Speaker 2: lose hope and faith after two games against the Red Sox,
- 1:49Speaker 2: it was like, oh, my God, they're going to win
- 1:50Speaker 2: the World Series. Then they lose two games in a race,
- 1:52Speaker 2: and it's now fire everybody again. Well, let me just
- 1:55Speaker 2: clear up something.
- 1:56Speaker 5: You are right that Taylor is a little more unhinged
- 1:59Speaker 5: than I am, but it's because of what you said.
- 2:02Speaker 5: I never bought back in. Taylor came back in on
- 2:05Speaker 5: this Yankee team. I dipped my toe back in on
- 2:08Speaker 5: this Yankee team, but I never bought back in, which
- 2:10Speaker 5: is why his fall is a lot further than mine.
- 2:13Speaker 3: It's like you'd rather be right.
- 2:17Speaker 2: We went through this with the Mets fans. They hated
- 2:20Speaker 2: the move so bad about letting Alonzo go. They wanted
- 2:22Speaker 2: to be right and have the Mets suck. And now
- 2:24Speaker 2: you guys, you wanted to be right. I didn't believe
- 2:25Speaker 2: in the offseason. I don't like Cashman. I don't like Boone.
- 2:27Speaker 2: They're not built right. And now you're getting a chance
- 2:29Speaker 2: to be proven right. And it's like you're dancing on
- 2:32Speaker 2: their grave before they even die.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Sal, you got to stop with the selling me hope.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I'm not buying it. You say the Yankees, they're going
- 2:40Speaker 1: back to Yankee Stadium. Sal, it would be one thing
- 2:43Speaker 1: if they were going back to Yankee Stadium 1-1 with
- 2:45Speaker 1: fans walking through the turnstiles with hope. You know that
- 2:49Speaker 1: fan base. This fan base can't wait to turn on
- 2:51Speaker 1: this team tonight the second they go down.
- 2:54Speaker 2: But that's sad to me. Yes. Stu, I was saying this.
- 2:58Speaker 2: The easiest thing I've ever had to do in sports
- 3:00Speaker 2: talk is argue for the Yankees. Oh my God. It's
- 3:05Speaker 2: a team that hasn't been under 530 years. Oh, how
- 3:09Speaker 2: bad it must be to be the Yankees. They only
- 3:11Speaker 2: won 93 games in a bad year without Aaron judge.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Oh my God. I can't believe it. They're returning home.
- 3:18Speaker 2: We can't wait to turn on them down. Oh, two. Oh,
- 3:20Speaker 2: only the second best team in the American league. Wow.
- 3:23Speaker 2: They're down two games. Cause they lost two to the
- 3:24Speaker 2: best team in the American league. Like, uh, Please. I mean,
- 3:27Speaker 2: what are we doing here? They're still one of the
- 3:29Speaker 2: best teams in baseball. It's not like I'm arguing for
- 3:32Speaker 2: the Royals or Guardians or even the White Sox. This
- 3:34Speaker 2: is the Yankees here.
- 3:36Speaker 5: They're above 500 and they win 93 games? Hang that banner, okay?
- 3:40Speaker 5: I don't know what organization you're talking to.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Hang that.
- 3:44Speaker 5: This is the equivalent. What you just said is the Jets'
- 3:47Speaker 5: equivalent to four straight plays, 26.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Yards, okay?
- 3:52Speaker 5: 93 games and above 500 means absolutely nothing to me.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Slow down. Everyone just slow down for a second.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Mikey, yeah, you are a minute removed from telling us
- 4:02Speaker 3: you dipped a toe back in the water and now
- 4:05Speaker 3: you're on hand.
- 4:06Speaker 2: This is me off. This, this is telling us we
- 4:09Speaker 2: should go get your scuba.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Why?
- 4:11Speaker 2: So he can pitch seven scoreless.
- 4:13Speaker 4: And lose one.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 4:15Speaker 1: This is everybody's problem with this Yankee team. where non-Yankee
- 4:20Speaker 1: fans are like, come on, guys, you could win three
- 4:22Speaker 1: in a row, even though Aaron Boone's Yankees are 7-24
- 4:25Speaker 1: in the postseason against teams that finish higher than them
- 4:28Speaker 1: in the standings. So this is the second consecutive season
- 4:31Speaker 1: where Yankee fans are looking at their team. against a
- 4:35Speaker 1: division rival that is absolutely punking us. The front office,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you mentioned 93 and 68. The front office sees 93
- 4:41Speaker 1: and 68. They put their hands up. They wipe their
- 4:43Speaker 1: hands and go, successful season, boys. Let's do it again
- 4:46Speaker 1: next year.
- 4:47Speaker 3: What pisses me and Sal off, second consecutive season you've
- 4:49Speaker 3: seen your team in the playoffs.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Last year it was in the World Series. I mean, Jesus.
- 4:55Speaker 2: They're in the world series in 2024 they're without their
- 4:57Speaker 2: best player arguably the best player in the sport and
- 5:00Speaker 2: all they've done all they've they played four postseason games
- 5:03Speaker 2: they smoked the red socks in two of them whitewashed
- 5:06Speaker 2: like it wasn't even close destroyed them and they lost
- 5:09Speaker 2: two games one to an age you have to tip
- 5:11Speaker 2: your cap to rasmussen the other not so pretty like
- 5:14Speaker 2: that's all they've done is go two and two without
- 5:16Speaker 2: their best player and it's like oh my god it's
- 5:17Speaker 2: the worst thing ever now I'm not guaranteeing they're going
- 5:20Speaker 2: to come back and win this, but I know for
- 5:22Speaker 2: damn sure it is not over when you have it
- 5:25Speaker 2: lined up the way that they do. So it's just
- 5:27Speaker 2: tough to take that you go over the top anti-Yankees
- 5:31Speaker 2: based off of two games, one which is a really
- 5:33Speaker 2: good game.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Let's go back to calm Mikey A here. Go ahead,
- 5:36Speaker 4: Mikey A. What do you have? Taylor. Taylor.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Somehow you're more unhinged than Taylor. You confused me. I
- 5:46Speaker 3: thought you weren't Taylor. Go ahead, Taylor.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Sal, you're not guaranteeing the Yankees come back and win
- 5:50Speaker 1: the series. I'm guaranteeing the Yankees do not come back
- 5:53Speaker 1: and win this series because I just don't understand where
- 5:56Speaker 1: does any confidence come from that this team can now
- 5:59Speaker 1: win three straight.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Way to step out on a limb. Yeah, right.
- 6:04Speaker 2: It's 2-0. I know what he was getting on me
- 6:05Speaker 2: last time. Oh, make an opinion. Yeah, great opinion there, Taylor.
- 6:08Speaker 2: The Yankees aren't.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Going to win down. I guarantee they lose tonight.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Wow.
- 6:12Speaker 2: No way. I am going to guarantee they do come
- 6:14Speaker 2: back and win this series. How about that?
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And I'm going to give you two little reasons why.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Max Reed tonight. He's leaving his wife alone with a
- 6:21Speaker 2: baby potentially. Who knows? She could give birth. He may
- 6:24Speaker 2: be in the fifth or sixth inning. He's going to
- 6:26Speaker 2: go out there and dominate at home. Crowd gets back
- 6:29Speaker 2: into it. Going to be like the Yankee Stadium of old.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Rodon being great at home. The Rays are going to
- 6:34Speaker 2: shake in their boots at the sight of the old
- 6:36Speaker 2: Bronx Bombers and the Yankee Stadium. And then Cam Schlittler.
- 6:39Speaker 2: who some might say they'd even rather have him than
- 6:42Speaker 2: Paul Skeens. He's going in game five on the road
- 6:46Speaker 2: in Tampa. And Ben Rice, find me a hotter bet
- 6:49Speaker 2: than Ben Rice who can carry this team. The Yankees
- 6:53Speaker 2: are not done. They will come back and beat the
- 6:55Speaker 2: Rays in this series.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Yes, and Sal, what I say is if that happens,
- 6:59Speaker 3: Taylor cannot root for the Yankees moving forward.
- 7:01Speaker 4: That's it. Just me and you. Yeah, okay.
- 7:06Speaker 2: If the Yankees come to see you. He's going to
- 7:07Speaker 2: send us the Austin Wells bobblehead. I want that Austin
- 7:09Speaker 2: Wells bobblehead behind me if the Yankees come back.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I mean, no one loves the Bombers like me and Sal.
- 7:15Speaker 1: You guys could have anything in my Yankee collection if
- 7:17Speaker 1: the Yankees come back and win this series.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Done.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Okay, let me entertain what Sal just said for a second.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Let's say best case scenario, the Yankees minus 164 tonight,
- 7:28Speaker 1: favorites on FanDuel. Let's say they win and face a
- 7:30Speaker 1: game four. Carlos Rodon, who Sal is puffing his chest
- 7:34Speaker 1: out saying how good Rodon has been lately. Let me
- 7:36Speaker 1: just remind everybody, in six playoff appearances for the Yankees,
- 7:40Speaker 1: Carlos Rodon, who we're trusting our season, 6.92 ERA.
- 7:44Speaker 4: He's due.
- 7:46Speaker 2: He's due for another stinker. I don't even like Rodan,
- 7:51Speaker 2: but he's been better at home. He's been hot as
- 7:53Speaker 2: of late, but it's even more than that. If he
- 7:55Speaker 2: doesn't have it early on, you have Garrett Cole coming
- 7:58Speaker 2: out of the bullpen. He's an ace on every other team.
- 8:02Speaker 1: This just fuels into me and Mikey A's frustration. Cam
- 8:07Speaker 1: Schlittler could throw eight scoreless innings. Garrett Cole could throw
- 8:10Speaker 1: six innings of one run ball. The Yankees lineup, they
- 8:15Speaker 1: cannot hit. Sal, the 2009 Yankees, the gold standard, obviously.
- 8:18Speaker 1: the past two decades, the only World Series that the
- 8:21Speaker 1: Yankees have won. Do you know how many players in
- 8:24Speaker 1: that starting lineup batted.
- 8:25Speaker 4: 270 or better?
- 8:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure a lot of them.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Eight.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Do you know how many guys on the Yankees' current
- 8:32Speaker 1: roster are batting 270 or better?
- 8:34Speaker 2: How many guys in baseball batting?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Zero.
- 8:36Speaker 4: The answer was zero.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Nobody in baseball hits. 278 anymore. You hit. 230, it's like,
- 8:41Speaker 2: holy cow.
- 8:42Speaker 1: The Rays have five.
- 8:43Speaker 2: The Rays have five in their lineup.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Yeah, but Sal's point is no one cares about average anymore.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but okay.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Okay.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Nobody cares about average anymore. It's just a coincidence that
- 8:51Speaker 1: the Rays have five players in their starting lineup batting.
- 8:54Speaker 1: above 270. It's just coincidence the Rays have the best
- 8:57Speaker 1: batting average in all of baseball on their way to
- 9:00Speaker 1: winning the division. And now here come the Yankees. Here
- 9:02Speaker 1: come Aaron Boone, Brian Cashman, and getting stuffed in a locker, Sal.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Will we two just forget the two games that they
- 9:09Speaker 2: scored 18 runs against the Red Sox that happened a
- 9:12Speaker 2: week ago? Against the Red Sox bullpen.
- 9:15Speaker 5: That's the Red Sox bullpen. I could have thrown better.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Hayden Toley, Sonny Gray, and those guys in the Red
- 9:21Speaker 2: Sox bullpen. Now, I think the Red Sox stink, but
- 9:23Speaker 2: those guys were not bad all year long. Like, you
- 9:25Speaker 2: can't minimize the Yankees' offense when they scored 18 runs
- 9:28Speaker 2: just a week ago at home. On the road may
- 9:31Speaker 2: be a different story, but they just did it.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yep.
- 9:34Speaker 3: If the Yankees do lose and get swept tonight, that's
- 9:36Speaker 3: a good thing for Aaron Judge, right?
- 9:39Speaker 2: Probably. I would think so. It might be a bad
- 9:41Speaker 2: thing for Aaron Boone, but a good thing for Aaron Judge. Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 2: I mean, you almost forget because it's been so long
- 9:46Speaker 2: with Judge and the Yankees dominated without him against the
- 9:48Speaker 2: Red Sox. And still, I haven't heard any this week,
- 9:52Speaker 2: anything about, oh, well, they don't have Aaron Judge. Not
- 9:55Speaker 2: one fan has said that. It's all, we're done. I
- 9:57Speaker 2: hate this team. Fire Cashman, Fire Boone. Not, oh, it sucks.
- 10:00Speaker 2: that we don't have Judge and we really wish we had.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Nobody's even thinking about that. But yeah, I mean, if
- 10:04Speaker 2: you're Aaron Judge, you're going to be, oh, I told you,
- 10:06Speaker 2: you missed me. You thought you could win and be
- 10:07Speaker 2: better without me in the postseason.
- 10:08Speaker 4: I've never been more valuable.
- 10:10Speaker 1: It feels like, Sal, that I'm having to apologize for
- 10:13Speaker 1: the standard of baseball I grew up watching with this
- 10:15Speaker 1: Yankee team. I'm thinking back to the 2009 team. Melky
- 10:19Speaker 1: Cabrera would look like Joe DiMaggio right now in this lineup.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Never.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I mean, what are you going back to? The game
- 10:26Speaker 2: has changed completely now. You don't like Ben Rice? I
- 10:29Speaker 2: like Ben Rice. I like Ben Rice.
- 10:31Speaker 1: The 2000s Yankees, we had seven Ben Rices in the
- 10:35Speaker 1: lineup and zero Trent Grishams.
- 10:38Speaker 2: What about Luis Garcia Jr.? Even I can't take that
- 10:40Speaker 2: one straight.
- 10:43Speaker 4: He made yourself laugh.
- 10:46Speaker 2: He was the best bat available at the deadline. They
- 10:48Speaker 2: got him in there. He reminds you of Robbie Cano, no?
- 10:50Speaker 2: With that quick twitch. Come on.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Yes. Taylor, put it on the poll.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Do you imagine at any point in time that Melky
- 10:56Speaker 3: Cabrera looked like Joe DiMaggio?
- 10:58Speaker 4: On this team, yes, he would. Yes, he would.
- 11:02Speaker 2: The milkman would deliver.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Elliot Ramos, they would not let Elliot Ramos in the
- 11:07Speaker 1: stadium to just attend the game as a fan for
- 11:11Speaker 1: the 2000s Yankees.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Look, they tried to go defensively with McMahon. The guy
- 11:16Speaker 2: boots the ball. What do you want to do? I
- 11:18Speaker 2: want to see Volpe in there. I want to see Caballero.
- 11:20Speaker 2: They need to go offense. So I would hope that
- 11:21Speaker 2: Boone does that. But I think you'll see a little
- 11:23Speaker 2: bit of a different lineup. They will score runs tonight.
- 11:26Speaker 2: My biggest question is Max Freed, because Freed's been an
- 11:28Speaker 2: issue in the postseason. Last year, he got beat up
- 11:30Speaker 2: by Toronto pretty badly. He's going to have to get
- 11:32Speaker 2: the job done. If he does his job, I am
- 11:35Speaker 2: very confident tonight the Yankees will score more than enough runs.
- 11:37Speaker 3: At So Taylor's point about, you know, walking through the
- 11:40Speaker 3: turnstiles and being excited, he'd prefer that.
- 11:42Speaker 4: I understand that.
- 11:43Speaker 3: So you'll walk in, you'll be nervous tonight because, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 3: every game the rest of the way here in this
- 11:47Speaker 3: series is a must-win game. But, Sal, you know how
- 11:50Speaker 3: this works within a series. If they win tonight, the
- 11:53Speaker 3: Yankee fans, game four, will walk through those turnstiles as
- 11:57Speaker 3: confident as they've ever been.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Tonight, nervous. They win tonight, they'll be confident.
- 12:02Speaker 2: That's the thing with these series. You win one game,
- 12:05Speaker 2: it changes everything. And it's funny, Stu, and I knew
- 12:08Speaker 2: you got to it early. I knew we were going
- 12:09Speaker 2: to get to it at some point while the series
- 12:11Speaker 2: doesn't start until the home team loses a game. But
- 12:13Speaker 2: in this particular series, I do think it pertains here.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yankees win game three. All that negative feel, no matter what,
- 12:19Speaker 2: Mikey A., Taylor, I don't care how much you don't
- 12:21Speaker 2: believe in this team, you're going to be like, well,
- 12:23Speaker 2: if they win game four, we do have Schlittler going
- 12:24Speaker 2: in game five.
- 12:25Speaker 4: It can't happen.
- 12:26Speaker 2: And then, by the way, you win this and you
- 12:28Speaker 2: get the bye into the World Series. Like, Yankee fans
- 12:31Speaker 2: right now want to blow everything up. There's a good
- 12:33Speaker 2: chance by Saturday night we're talking about World Series with
- 12:35Speaker 2: the Yankees.
- 12:36Speaker 4: You start convincing yourself. You do. That's exactly what happens.
- 12:38Speaker 4: He's right, guys. He's right. Come on, Taylor. You know
- 12:41Speaker 4: he's right.
- 12:44Speaker 5: You're not going to convince me. Not with Carlos Rodon
- 12:46Speaker 5: taking the ball in game four. And your whole thing is, oh,
- 12:49Speaker 5: they got Garrett Cole. He could come in if things
- 12:53Speaker 5: get bad. If Rodon gives up two runs, it's over.
- 12:57Speaker 5: Because Ben Rice isn't hitting two more solo home runs,
- 13:01Speaker 5: which is what's going to have to happen for them
- 13:03Speaker 5: to score any runs.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Maybe he'll stay hot, though.
- 13:06Speaker 1: What a desperate point in our season that we're saying,
- 13:10Speaker 1: let's turn to Anthony Volpe to save us.
- 13:12Speaker 4: You're a loss away from the season being over. Of
- 13:14Speaker 4: course you're desperate. We understand that. But it could change
- 13:18Speaker 4: in an instant. I mean.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Elliot Ramos batted third.
- 13:21Speaker 2: He batted third for this lineup.
- 13:23Speaker 5: And he sucked, but it's okay because he did it right-handed.
- 13:27Speaker 1: The worst three-hitter in Yankee postseason history, Sal, and it's
- 13:30Speaker 1: not even close.
- 13:32Speaker 2: They still destroyed the Red Sox scoring nine runs a game. Hey,
- 13:36Speaker 2: if those guys at the bottom of the order put
- 13:37Speaker 2: pressure on the opposition and when it turns back around for,
- 13:40Speaker 2: come on, Rice, Bellinger, Garcia Jr., you don't think that's
- 13:43Speaker 2: a solid top three in the order? At home, where
- 13:46Speaker 2: a pop-up to right field could be a grand slam? Like,
- 13:48Speaker 2: come on, this is a big difference here with Yankee
- 13:50Speaker 2: Stadium with all those lefty bats. They just have to
- 13:52Speaker 2: get one in the air in right field and it's
- 13:54Speaker 2: going to be gone. And if not, a fan will
- 13:55Speaker 2: catch it and bring it back. Jeffrey Mayer's thought, like,
- 13:57Speaker 2: you've got to expect the Yankees at home to have
- 13:59Speaker 2: different offense here with everything in their favor.
- 14:02Speaker 1: So if I had my level of confidence right now
- 14:05Speaker 1: going into game three tonight, it's probably 5%, and the 5%
- 14:09Speaker 1: is only because of Max Fried on the mound.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Stugatz here. Welcome to your most rewarding season ever, only

- 14:29Speaker 4: I mean, come on.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Everyone loves a big man touchdown. And this NFL season,

- 15:47Speaker 2: Sal, you mentioned it.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Max Fried confirmed that he's starting today's game three. He's
- 15:52Speaker 1: got a baby on the way. His plans won't change
- 15:54Speaker 1: with a.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Baby on the way.
- 15:54Speaker 1: You credited how supportive his family is and understanding the job.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yesterday's Padres game, the biggest winner in last night's Padres
- 16:03Speaker 1: game was Mason Miller, who wasn't even at the stadium
- 16:06Speaker 1: because he was placed on the paternity list with his
- 16:08Speaker 1: wife expected to give birth during game three. Of course
- 16:12Speaker 1: that game comes down to the Padres' bullpen, where the
- 16:14Speaker 1: Padres are up 4-2, entering the seventh, and you could
- 16:16Speaker 1: see their manager, Craig Stammen, having to navigate the last
- 16:19Speaker 1: nine outs without Miller. And the entire time I'm watching that,
- 16:23Speaker 1: the only thing I could think about was, I really,
- 16:26Speaker 1: I really hope the Padres don't blow this, because the
- 16:29Speaker 1: discourse around Mason Miller leaving his team in the postseason
- 16:32Speaker 1: to be at the birth of his first child... would
- 16:34Speaker 1: have been absolutely ridiculous today.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I don't think anyone in San Diego cares, though.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Taylor, play that out if he's a Yankee.
- 16:43Speaker 5: If they make the move for Mason Taylor like I
- 16:46Speaker 5: wanted really bad for them to make the move for
- 16:49Speaker 5: Mason Taylor at the deadline.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Mason Miller.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Mason Miller.
- 16:52Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Sorry, Jets on the brain.
- 16:56Speaker 5: And imagine just for a second that he's going to
- 16:59Speaker 5: miss a playoff game For the Yankees, for the birth
- 17:03Speaker 5: of it.
- 17:04Speaker 2: That kid can never go to school in the tri-state area.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I know when it comes to the Yankees. I have
- 17:10Speaker 1: people texting me that listened to the show yesterday, and
- 17:12Speaker 1: they said, hey, we don't recognize you when you talk
- 17:14Speaker 1: Yankee baseball.
- 17:15Speaker 4: No one does.
- 17:16Speaker 1: It's an ugly tailor that comes out when you have
- 17:18Speaker 1: to talk Yankee baseball.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Or just when you're behind a microphone.
- 17:21Speaker 1: But when it comes to Mason Miller.
- 17:24Speaker 1: This is even a line too far for me. Like
- 17:27Speaker 1: if a guy wants to be there for the birth
- 17:28Speaker 1: of a child, I'm just going to put my hands
- 17:30Speaker 1: up and say somebody has to pick him up. He's
- 17:33Speaker 1: allowed to be there.
- 17:34Speaker 4: All right.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Let's let's try this out with Sal. Let's let's go
- 17:37Speaker 3: back to when you're on WFA yet.
- 17:39Speaker 4: OK.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Have you listened yet, by the way, since you left? OK,
- 17:43Speaker 3: let's go back to those days. Pick whatever scenario you want,
- 17:49Speaker 3: but you are headed in to do the biggest show
- 17:51Speaker 3: you've ever done. Knicks have won a title. The Giants
- 17:54Speaker 3: have won a Super Bowl. The Yankees, World Series, whatever
- 17:57Speaker 3: it is, okay? And your wife is expecting. And halfway
- 18:01Speaker 3: through that show, and you're killing it, full board of calls,
- 18:04Speaker 3: just going nuts, getting 30 shares. Is Sal Licata leaving
- 18:08Speaker 3: the show to go to the hospital to be there
- 18:12Speaker 3: for the birth of his child?
- 18:15Speaker 2: I think no, if I'm in the midst of that
- 18:18Speaker 2: and the, you know, Nick's won the championship, whatever Mets
- 18:21Speaker 2: are winning a championship. I think I'd be like, Hey, uh,
- 18:24Speaker 2: I'll meet you afterwards. My show ends at 6. I'll
- 18:28Speaker 2: be out of here at 6. Come on. Let me
- 18:29Speaker 2: know how it goes. I'm sure it wouldn't go over well.
- 18:32Speaker 2: It would probably be a divorce. But in that scenario,
- 18:34Speaker 2: peak scenario, on whatever radio station, like in the midst
- 18:38Speaker 2: of it, no, I don't– how do you miss that?
- 18:41Speaker 2: And I'm thinking this lesson. You can't criticize them, obviously.
- 18:43Speaker 2: In today's world, you just can't do that. And I
- 18:45Speaker 2: understand it. Guys want to be with their family. I
- 18:47Speaker 2: understand it. But think of how many people like all you–
- 18:50Speaker 2: and that– Case, well, in his case in particular, he'd
- 18:53Speaker 2: only be upsetting his wife. That's one person. But you're
- 18:55Speaker 2: also upsetting them, the entire Padre fan base, every Padre
- 18:59Speaker 2: fan everywhere. You have a chance to help them along
- 19:03Speaker 2: the way if you're there with the club. So I
- 19:05Speaker 2: would value the however many listeners, how long I put
- 19:09Speaker 2: into this, all those different things versus just the one person.
- 19:12Speaker 2: My wife will get over it. I'll make it up
- 19:13Speaker 2: to her in some way.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Your show is over at 2. I love you arriving
- 19:16Speaker 3: at the hospital at 6. It's four blocks away, but
- 19:19Speaker 3: that's how long it takes in New York City.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I was assuming afternoon drunk. Oh, you meant the midday? No,
- 19:25Speaker 2: I bail on midday.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Not as an important day, Bart. I love it. Taylor
- 19:30Speaker 4: is unhinged.
- 19:31Speaker 1: So, Sal, you're saying you can't criticize Mason Miller for yesterday?
- 19:35Speaker 1: I think that is fair. You can't criticize Mason Miller.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Once the baby's due date's there and– his wife is
- 19:42Speaker 1: going into labor. He could be there where you can
- 19:44Speaker 1: criticize Mason Miller. And I hate to say it. you
- 19:49Speaker 1: can't be having sex in January.
- 19:50Speaker 4: You don't hate to say it, and you're right.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Nine months, postseason baseball lines up perfectly. It's a selfish
- 19:57Speaker 1: move from Mason Miller. Yeah.
- 19:59Speaker 2: That's the problem you have with these players. Clearly, they
- 20:00Speaker 2: haven't been married long enough. Sex is still a thing.
- 20:03Speaker 2: It's on the table. They don't care when it is.
- 20:04Speaker 2: If you were married for five years, you'd be like, yeah, no,
- 20:07Speaker 2: I'm good to go. I'll be at every postseason game,
- 20:08Speaker 2: no problem. Now, what I will say, if you do,
- 20:10Speaker 2: did she have the baby? Do we know that?
- 20:12Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 20:13Speaker 1: He's expected to be back for game four.
- 20:14Speaker 4: It's such a good point by you, though, Sal.
- 20:17Speaker 2: One day. Well, because then you can milk it and
- 20:19Speaker 2: be like, well, paternity leave. I got to be with,
- 20:20Speaker 2: you know, I got to help her out. You want
- 20:22Speaker 2: to be there for the actual physical birth, make sure
- 20:24Speaker 2: everything is good. That's fine. Then get back and go play.
- 20:27Speaker 2: So I think all good.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Because they're in the honeymoon phase of their relationship. You
- 20:30Speaker 4: and I can circle the dates on the calendar.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Birthday, maybe holiday.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Yes, call our shots.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Are you kidding me?
- 20:45Speaker 2: I want to play. I don't want to be anywhere
- 20:47Speaker 2: near any of that stuff anymore. It's been 10 years.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Come on.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Get me to the field or the radio station.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Amazing how good your Falcons look with a competent quarterback.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Oh, who would have thought? Cooper Rush, maybe the worst
- 20:58Speaker 2: thing ever. I knew immediately watching him week one. I
- 21:01Speaker 2: think I was on with you guys afterward that week.
- 21:03Speaker 2: The worst quarterback play at the NFL level I've ever seen.
- 21:06Speaker 2: And the only reason why I wouldn't say it's the
- 21:07Speaker 2: worst quarterback play I've ever seen is because I did
- 21:09Speaker 2: 10 years of Columbia football games. And there have been
- 21:11Speaker 2: some brutal quarterback displays there. But Cooper Rush was among... Yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 2: what a difference. All of a sudden, Kevin Stavansky can
- 21:17Speaker 2: work with the weapons here. They are an excellent running
- 21:20Speaker 2: football team, which is just so much fun to watch.
- 21:22Speaker 2: And it's not just because B. John Robinson is the
- 21:25Speaker 2: best back in the league. They can run the football
- 21:28Speaker 2: and in a week, NFC South, I'm expecting the division
- 21:30Speaker 2: titles too. I want the Falcons in a post-season one
- 21:32Speaker 2: of that NFC South.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Last week, I put a flyer on the Falcons to
- 21:35Speaker 4: make it to the Super Bowl. How about that? Good value.
- 21:38Speaker 4: They were in too.
- 21:40Speaker 2: There may be a little going. Hey, I guess anything's
- 21:42Speaker 2: possible if you get in and you look at the
- 21:43Speaker 2: landscape of the NFC. I know the NFC West is loaded, but...
- 21:46Speaker 2: You're telling me the Niners aren't beatable or the Seahawks
- 21:48Speaker 2: aren't beatable? I think anybody's beatable right now in the NFC.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm getting old. When Taylor blurted out Lions, was
- 21:54Speaker 3: that over the air?
- 21:55Speaker 4: Yeah, Columbia. I'm so proud of you. And Sal just
- 21:58Speaker 4: thundered right through. I'm proud of you, too. I'm proud
- 22:00Speaker 4: of both of you. That was excellent.
- 22:03Speaker 1: So, when you're looking at.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I did Ivy League. Can you imagine me in the
- 22:06Speaker 2: Ivy League for 10 years, traveling to Harvard, Dartmouth? Unbelievable.
- 22:11Speaker 1: So, when you're looking at the NFL.
- 22:12Speaker 4: You went to Harvard.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I would have mismatched. I wear the Columbia stuff. They're like, oh,
- 22:17Speaker 2: you went to Columbia? I'm like, nah, come on. I'm
- 22:19Speaker 2: the broadcaster. I did some games. I did some basketball,
- 22:21Speaker 2: football games.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Class 88. I mean.
- 22:25Speaker 1: You got to get a class ring.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I barely graduated from Suffolk Community College. I didn't actually
- 22:31Speaker 2: graduate from Suffolk Community.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Sorry, Taylor. What happened there?
- 22:35Speaker 1: You gave yourself credit for graduating and then immediately realized
- 22:37Speaker 1: you didn't graduate.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I was going to say I barely went to Suffolk.
- 22:40Speaker 2: I got a few points away. I can circle back
- 22:42Speaker 2: and finish that. What is it? What's the two-year associate's degree?
- 22:45Speaker 2: I can finish that up.
- 22:46Speaker 4: No, you don't. You're fine.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So who would you make the argument for being the
- 22:52Speaker 1: most disappointed team so far in the NFL season? Because
- 22:56Speaker 1: I think the news yesterday that Lane Johnson's retiring in Philadelphia,
- 23:00Speaker 1: you have Saquon Hurt, Jalen Hurts is 20-50 in the
- 23:03Speaker 1: NFL in completion percentage. The Philadelphia Eagles can't complete a
- 23:06Speaker 1: third down attempt if their life depended on it. I
- 23:09Speaker 1: think you can make the argument right now it's the
- 23:11Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, where the Philadelphia Eagles feel like the Wizard
- 23:14Speaker 1: of Oz, where they're standing behind the curtain and they're
- 23:16Speaker 1: doing all these magic tricks to try to distract you,
- 23:19Speaker 1: telling everyone, like, oh, nothing to see here, everything's fine. Meanwhile, like,
- 23:23Speaker 1: the rest of us have kind of pulled the curtain
- 23:24Speaker 1: back and like, something might be off in Philadelphia.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but I felt like that last year, and yet
- 23:31Speaker 2: they kept winning these games. The difference is this year,
- 23:33Speaker 2: maybe they're getting beat up a little bit. Hard to
- 23:35Speaker 2: say anybody more disappointing than the Texans. And I would
- 23:38Speaker 2: even go to the NFC North. I think the Packers
- 23:40Speaker 2: and Lions have both been more disappointing. than the Eagles.
- 23:44Speaker 2: And NFC East is going to be weak. Obviously, the
- 23:46Speaker 2: Giants leading that division right now. But I feel like
- 23:49Speaker 2: the Eagles are finally having their comeuppance to what should
- 23:51Speaker 2: have happened a year ago and is now starting to happen.
- 23:55Speaker 2: I didn't expect great things from them. I did think
- 23:57Speaker 2: the Packers would be better. I certainly thought the Lions
- 23:59Speaker 2: would be better. I mean, the Chargers, you could throw
- 24:01Speaker 2: them in there. I thought they were going to be good.
- 24:03Speaker 2: But the Texans 0-4, hard to top that. Even though
- 24:06Speaker 2: the schedule is tough, I wouldn't put the Eagles in
- 24:08Speaker 2: that category.
- 24:09Speaker 3: The Sal Licata Show, wherever you get your podcast. Last
- 24:12Speaker 3: question here for you, Sal. Are Giant fans buying into
- 24:15Speaker 3: this 3-1 start?
- 24:17Speaker 2: Yes, but it is with caution. I think Giant fans
- 24:20Speaker 2: are smart enough to realize that it's exciting. It's a
- 24:23Speaker 2: perfect start through the first four games of the year.
- 24:26Speaker 2: And maybe there's hope after the addition of J.J. McCarthy
- 24:28Speaker 2: that if Winston can't get it going, at least you
- 24:30Speaker 2: have another option that can maybe raise that ceiling a
- 24:33Speaker 2: little bit. So yes, belief in Harbaugh, belief in the defense,
- 24:36Speaker 2: and excited about the record. I don't know if they
- 24:39Speaker 2: truly believe that in the end, Especially without Dart. If
- 24:43Speaker 2: Jackson Dart were here, oh my God, forget about it.
- 24:45Speaker 2: They'd be talking Super Bowl. I think, though, deep down,
- 24:48Speaker 2: they know that it's probably going to be an uphill battle,
- 24:51Speaker 2: even to win a weaker NFC East without their star quarterback.
- 24:54Speaker 4: All right, man. We appreciate it. Always fun.
- 24:56Speaker 3: The Sal Licata Show, wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks
- 24:58Speaker 3: for doing this, man.
- 24:59Speaker 4: We'll talk to you soon. Go Yanks.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Thank you. I can't go Yanks.
