- 0:24Inmate assaults three MCDC deputies by Dennis House Paxby Media Group,
- 0:31May seventh, twenty twenty five. An incident at the Marion
- 0:35County Detention Center on April twenty eighth left three deputies
- 0:39injured at the hands of an inmate. According to a
- 0:42press release from Marion County Jailer Barry Brady, the incident
- 0:46occurred at eleven thirty seven PM when inmate Roosevelt Davis,
- 0:49the third, twenty three, was escorted from the recreation yard
- 0:53to the maximum security housing unit without warning. Davis charged
- 0:58Sergeant John Mullins, striking him in the face and knocking
- 1:01him backwards. He then assaulted Lieutenant Rebecca Streewell, hitting her
- 1:05repeatedly in the faith in head. Deputy Stephen Feast was
- 1:09also struck while attempting to assist Lieutenant Streebell. Deputy Francis
- 1:14Hope responded to the scene and deployed his taser, which
- 1:18subdued Davis at eleven thirty eight pm. All three staff
- 1:22members were taken to Springview Hospital for evaluation. Sergeant Mullins
- 1:26and Deputy Feast were treated and released. Lieutenant Streewell was
- 1:30statflighted to the University of Louisville Hospital for further evaluation
- 1:34due to head injuries. She was later released and according
- 1:37to Brady, she has a follow up visit in six weeks.
- 1:41Davis is currently being held on Washington County on charges
- 1:45on Washington County charges of murder, attempted murder, and first
- 1:48degree burglary as a result of this incident. Additional charges
- 1:53of third degree assault and made assault on corrections employee,
- 1:56and second degree assault have been filed through the Marrion
- 1:59Counts at time Jorney's office. Davis was indicted in February
- 2:05by a Washington County grand jury for the December twenty seventh,
- 2:08twenty twenty four murder of Kadisha Birch in her home
- 2:12in Springfield. The indictment also charged Davis with attempted murder
- 2:16of Francis Campbell the first degree burglary and two counts
- 2:20of first degree wanton endangerment. Juvenile cited for damages at
- 2:26Idle Hour Park by James Reed Kleine. May seventh, twenty
- 2:30twenty five, three juveniles were cited for first degree criminal
- 2:34mischief in connection to vandalism of the restrooms at the
- 2:37Idle Hour Park splash Pad. According to a press release
- 2:41from the Springfield Police Department, the vandalism occurred on Saturday,
- 2:45April twenty sixth. The release states that on Sunday morning,
- 2:48April twenty seventh, twenty twenty five, Springfield Police officers were
- 2:52called to the park and found there was a damage
- 2:54to the splash Pad restroom that included a broken toilet,
- 2:58paper dispenser, damaged baby changing table, clawed toilet, and FECs
- 3:03smeared in the scene. The investigation by Lieutenant Kirk Bowen
- 3:07revealed that three juveniles had caused the damage on the
- 3:10morning of the day before. The juveniles admitted to the
- 3:13damage and were cited for criminal mischief first and second
- 3:17urban very first and then released to their parents. Lieutenant
- 3:21Bowen continued to investigate this incident. Thankfully it wasn't real
- 3:27by Jilee Klein. May seventh, twenty twenty five. First responders
- 3:32came roaring into Washington County High School Friday morning with
- 3:35full lifcen sirens, just as if responding to a ten
- 3:39forty six automobile accident with injuries, But thankfully, the scene
- 3:44they were responding to wasn't real. Rescue Squad Commander Joe
- 3:48Carpenter teamed up with Megan Couch WCHS Stanley Resource and
- 3:53Services to orchestrate the mock crafts to educate teens about
- 3:57safe and unsafe driving and the consequences. First responders arrived
- 4:02at a gruesome scene in the school parking lot and
- 4:04proceeded to work the scene as if over real with
- 4:07a few exceptions. The scenario was not only gruesome, but
- 4:11very realistic. Two cars had collided and there was a
- 4:15range of injuries. Vehicle one was occupied by two teen boys.
- 4:19The driver had taken his eyes off the road to
- 4:21read a text on his phone and had run a
- 4:23stop sign or a light, colliding with the vehicle two.
- 4:26Vehicle two was occupied by two teen girls who had
- 4:29been drinking, flowing the driver's response time so she was
- 4:33unable to avoid the collision. Carpenter spoke with the students
- 4:36sitting around the parking lot for a few minutes before
- 4:39making the call to despatch. Students send her the tones
- 4:42and the dispatcher sending the first responders to their location.
- 4:46On Friday, first responders were sitting on the one fifty
- 4:49bypass just at the end of the school driveway, waiting
- 4:52for the call. Carpenter then explained to students that the
- 4:55response time in an actual emergency would be much longer.
- 5:00He said law enforcement and ems would be the first
- 5:02to arrive on teams because the rescue squad and fire
- 5:05department are staffed by volunteers. When the tone sound, those
- 5:09volunteers must come to the departments year up and then
- 5:12drive to the scene. Carpenter also explained that the volunteers
- 5:16work slower than usual at the mock crashed to allow
- 5:19students to see what they were doing. At each step. First,
- 5:23EMTs and paramedics assessed each of the students injuries. The
- 5:27girls in the vehicle two both sustained minor injuries and
- 5:30had to be extricated one of the doors were removed,
- 5:34or once the doors were removed, they walked with EMTs
- 5:37to the ambulance where they were treated. In Vehicle one,
- 5:40the driver portrayed by Lance Coulter Het who has been
- 5:44ejected from the vehicle, not only was he texting and driving,
- 5:47but he was also not wearing a seat belt and
- 5:49he was declared deceased. His passenger was critically injured and
- 5:53the roofs of the vehicle had to be removed to
- 5:55get him out of the vehicle. Students also saw Deputy
- 5:59Leslie White and Police Chief Sue mud investigating the scene.
- 6:03One thing they didn't see her here was Deputy Wagner
- 6:05talking to the girls in the back of the ambulance
- 6:08after she found the liquor bottle in the vehicle. Were
- 6:11the accident real, Wagner said, this is what she would
- 6:13have done. Although students didn't see or hear the questionings,
- 6:17they did see Wagner place handcuffs on the driver of
- 6:20vehicle two quote even though she wasn't at fault in
- 6:23the accident, she did have alcohol in her system and
- 6:25was impaired. Wagner said, if this were real, I would
- 6:28have arrested her and she would have been charged with
- 6:31DUI vehicular homicide, two counts of wanton endangerment, and first
- 6:36agree assault. End of quote quote. I'm glad the school
- 6:40allowed us to do this, said Washington County Fire Chief
- 6:43Mike Mullhunt. Hopefully everybody stays safe and uses designated drivers,
- 6:48and hopefully our message spreads end of quote quote. If
- 6:52we impassed even one kid, it was worth it, said
- 6:55rescue squood volunteer Danny Crouch, who also served as director
- 6:59of Washiington County Dispatch. One other minor difference, in addition
- 7:03to response time was the slowing down of the extrications.
- 7:07Was my presence on the scene. Normally I would be
- 7:10wearing a bright, fluorescent yellow safety vest I was not. Also,
- 7:14normally I would not be that close while the rescue
- 7:16squad is working. I never want to be in the way,
- 7:19so I stay back until they let me know I
- 7:21can come closer. Also, in a real accident, I never
- 7:24take or publish photos of the victims, announce to some obituaries.

- 18:45or actually by David B. Whickcluck. He is the author
- 18:49of The Life Matters Colin. I may have picked up
- 18:54the card years ago in the humorous section of Mother's
- 18:56Day Cards. One was a teaser on the outside, what's
- 18:59the best to remember on Mother's Day? And if you're
- 19:03the least bit curious, you open it where you read
- 19:06forget it once on the left with a laughing face
- 19:08and the words Mom, your love for this family is
- 19:11too amazing to forget. On the other side, it's a
- 19:14stark reminder to remember Mom this Mother's Day. I grew
- 19:18up in a family where my mom worked at home
- 19:19with the kids and my dad worked at the office.
- 19:22Mom and dad loved their respective roles. That's why Mom
- 19:25took it especially hard when Dad let Mother's Day slip
- 19:28by him one year. To her, it was like Dad
- 19:31forgot her special contribution to the family. It only happened once,
- 19:35because once was enough for Dad to always remember. I
- 19:38don't recall the Sunday sermon that morning, but either the
- 19:41preacher chose not to preach about the love of mother's
- 19:44or Dad slipt through it. So apparently the church was
- 19:47not a safety net for forgetful Dad. What I do
- 19:50remember is watching Mom in the kitchen when she finally
- 19:52realized there would be no Mother's Day surprise. I couldn't
- 19:55have been more than seven or eight at the time.
- 19:58I thought Mom was slicing onions. When I walked into
- 20:01the kitchen, her face quinched up a little bit at first,
- 20:04and then more and more she fought back the tears.
- 20:06I was cautiously backing out of the kitchen when Dad
- 20:09paunted in. If we had had a dog house, Dad's
- 20:13name would have definitely been on it that day. In
- 20:16Dad's descent, he was at his time in life when
- 20:19his life was full on. His dental practice was thriving.
- 20:22His first appointment was usually at eight am, and he
- 20:25worked hard all day. Plus he had three and brimunctious
- 20:28boys at home, and Mom was not one to leave
- 20:31hints about what to get her for Mother's Day. So
- 20:33when he walked into the kitchen that day, he had
- 20:36no idea what was coming, but in an instant Dad
- 20:38knew he was in deep trouble. I can't say this.
- 20:41Dad never missed another Mother's Day. He went all out
- 20:44for Mom's birthdays, which happened to be a Valentine Today
- 20:48and Christmas. Here's a fair warning to all. Remember Mom
- 20:52this Sunday. Find a way to thank her for all
- 20:54of her sacrifices. I loved the story about the second
- 20:57grade teacher who asked a little boy in her ce
- 21:00us this question. Suppose your mother based the pie and
- 21:03there were seven of you, your parents and five children,
- 21:06what part of the pie would you get a sixth
- 21:08replied the boy. I'm afraid you don't know your fractions
- 21:11of the teacher. Remember there are seven of you, Yes, teacher,
- 21:15said the boy, but you don't know my mother. Mother
- 21:18would say she didn't want any pie. Our house had
- 21:21plenty of food, including pie, that Mom sacrificed in a
- 21:25thousand other ways. She died several years ago March seventeen,
- 21:28twenty nineteen, at the age of ninety seven. Dad preceded
- 21:32her October twenty fifth, twenty sixteen, age ninety two. But
- 21:36I still think of sayings she did for me. She
- 21:39was involved in big events like Firstdays, award banquets, and graduation.
- 21:43But she was also there in small stuff like soothing
- 21:46my sniffles when I was hurt, or taught, trying to
- 21:48talk to me to sleep when I was too wired
- 21:50to fall asleep, or cheering me on football, wrestling, or track,
- 21:55and supporting me when I failed, or congratulating me when
- 21:59I succeeded. Mom did it all. Milton Borough once asked,
- 22:03if evolution really works, how come mothers only have two hands?
- 22:07Good question, one, Dan is for sure moms haven't evolved
- 22:10beyond the point of meeting, affirmation and recognition, just as
- 22:14the dad or the child who forgets Mother's Day brief
