- 0:00Aloha. Sunday afternoon in Hawaiʻi. I'm Mele with what's happening across the islands today.
- 1:33A wet system moves in tonight through Monday, and a second one follows Tuesday into Thursday. Trade winds stay moderate, but humidity climbs into the low 70s starting tomorrow — feel muggy through mid-week. Windward and mountain areas will catch the heaviest rain overnight and early morning. Leeward beaches stay drier, so if you're planning beach time, stick to the dry side and save the ridges for later in the week.
- 1:54Oʻahu north and south shores are running moderate at 4.1 feet — watch for shore break and rip currents. Kauaʻi's bigger at 5.5 feet, also rough. Maui's mellow at 3 feet, good for snorkelers. Big Island is glass-calm at 1.3 feet — if you want easy water, that's your spot.
- 2:08Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several sections closed — the Kahuku Unit roads, Kīpukapuaulu Trail, and the lava tube bridge. Kīlauea is at advisory level. The eruption paused yesterday after about seven hours of fountaining, so it's between episodes right now. Volcanic ash may still fall on Kaʻū.
- 2:23The park hits 110 years on August 1st, and we just posted a full guide covering what's open, what's closed, and how to plan your visit around Kīlauea activity. The trail closures and recent eruption mean conditions are shifting fast — the piece breaks down what you need to know before you go.
- 2:37Conditions improve by late week as the moisture systems move out.
- 2:41Our Hawaiʻi Volcanoes guide on the site covers the full 110-year picture. Catch you in the morning.
