- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about sorority life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice, Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Welcome back to Dirty Rush. We're continuing our conversation with
- 0:15Speaker 1: influencers who lived the sorority experience firsthand. We're back with
- 0:20Speaker 1: part three.
- 0:21Speaker 2: So nice to meet you. I'm Riley.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Nice to meet you. TG. It has been telling me
- 0:26Speaker 3: how amazing you are.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Wait, I know you went to Arizona, but I didn't
- 0:29Speaker 1: know you were in a sorority.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I was. I loved it too.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Sorority were you in?
- 0:35Speaker 2: I was in Delta Zeta?
- 0:37Speaker 3: Very cool?
- 0:40Speaker 2: I graduated today, so like, yeah, youngrats, thank you.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Okay, so take the girls through your rush process. I'm
- 0:49Speaker 1: sure your outfits were insane, so let's hear all about it.
- 0:54Speaker 4: It was so crazy because I'm originally from Louisiana, so
- 0:59Speaker 4: rushing out there and like in the South is totally
- 1:02Speaker 4: different and like rushing is not everyone's vibe. That's like
- 1:06Speaker 4: for sure, and that's how I felt like in the South.
- 1:10Speaker 4: I was like, oh, absolutely not, Like I will not
- 1:13Speaker 4: be the Southern bell like screaming at the door like
- 1:16Speaker 4: that was just like not my vibe. And then I
- 1:19Speaker 4: went to Arizona and I was on a cheer team
- 1:22Speaker 4: like my entire life. So I was like, I have
- 1:24Speaker 4: to like I need some sense of like community, I
- 1:27Speaker 4: need my girls.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Like I didn't know.
- 1:29Speaker 4: What to do, especially like moving across the country to
- 1:32Speaker 4: go to college like I was eighteen. I had no
- 1:34Speaker 4: idea what I was doing. And yeah, I just like
- 1:38Speaker 4: embraced the process. I was like, whatever happens is going
- 1:42Speaker 4: to happen. One of the like sororities. There is like
- 1:47Speaker 4: top sorority like in the nation. And so I had
- 1:51Speaker 4: someone like in my life at the time was like
- 1:53Speaker 4: telling me all about that. I was like, oh my gosh,
- 1:55Speaker 4: you have to rush the sorority, like they're top in
- 1:57Speaker 4: the nation.
- 1:58Speaker 2: They're top at ASU. Like that was the vibe. So
- 2:01Speaker 2: I kind of like had that in the back of
- 2:02Speaker 2: my mind.
- 2:03Speaker 4: And I remember just like walking into Delta Zeta and
- 2:07Speaker 4: Delta Zada was not the house she was talking about.
- 2:10Speaker 4: And I walked into Delta Zada and I was like
- 2:12Speaker 4: this is it. I had full body chills. I was
- 2:15Speaker 4: like like me, like no, like sorty.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Is not for me.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Like I was in there like crying, like and I
- 2:22Speaker 2: was like, yeah, this.
- 2:23Speaker 6: Is my home, this is it for me.
- 2:26Speaker 4: And then ever since then, like I was like that's it,
- 2:28Speaker 4: Like I didn't listen to her, and like I remember
- 2:30Speaker 4: them saying, like you end up in the house like
- 2:34Speaker 4: you're supposed to be in Like whatever happened, it's meant
- 2:37Speaker 4: to happen, even if like you don't if that's like
- 2:39Speaker 4: where you wanted to go in the first place. And
- 2:42Speaker 4: there was like time because like my my best friend
- 2:45Speaker 4: in my roommate went the house and like my second choice,
- 2:49Speaker 4: and there was so many times where I was like
- 2:50Speaker 4: did I make the right decision?
- 2:52Speaker 2: Like I would like overthink it.
- 2:54Speaker 4: All the time, and as like the weeks went by,
- 2:57Speaker 4: I was like, oh my gosh, like like everything's so clear.
- 3:01Speaker 4: I like went so I went to the right house.
- 3:04Speaker 4: But yeah, it was like such a good experience.
- 3:07Speaker 3: I love that year and such a good time.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 1: So then would you recommend Rushing a sorority to girls
- 3:15Speaker 1: who are listening to this podcast?
- 3:16Speaker 4: Oh for sure, Like it just brings that sense of
- 3:20Speaker 4: like home away from home.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I know.
- 3:22Speaker 4: It's like everything that like so already say. It's like,
- 3:24Speaker 4: oh my gosh, everyone says that, but it's true. Like
- 3:27Speaker 4: when you find the right one, like you actually embrace
- 3:29Speaker 4: it and you don't like listen to like the people
- 3:32Speaker 4: that are like, oh my gosh, you're paying for friends
- 3:34Speaker 4: or like whatever else. It is like it's actually your
- 3:36Speaker 4: home away from home, Like it's the girls that will
- 3:38Speaker 4: literally be in your wedding one day. Like it's the
- 3:41Speaker 4: girls that are gonna be there when you go through
- 3:43Speaker 4: your breakup in like college and you think your life sober,
- 3:46Speaker 4: like they're like picking you up like that.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 3:49Speaker 4: College is such like an intense time, so.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I would recommend it.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Like when I went through Rush and I saw the
- 3:57Speaker 4: girls in Daltha Zaida, I was like, this is.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Like I want to be just like them, like I
- 4:01Speaker 2: want to It was.
- 4:03Speaker 4: It was a situation where I was like I not
- 4:05Speaker 4: only can like see myself here and like being friends
- 4:08Speaker 4: with them, but like they're also like inspiring me. At
- 4:10Speaker 4: the same time, the girl like rushed like to the end,
- 4:14Speaker 4: like I was talking to like every day. Basically, She's
- 4:17Speaker 4: like what helps me is I look around. I'm like,
- 4:19Speaker 4: could I see my best friend that I had like
- 4:21Speaker 4: all throughout childhood or like my best friend in high school?
- 4:24Speaker 4: Like could I see them in this room like fitting
- 4:27Speaker 4: in and if your answer is yeah, and like that's
- 4:29Speaker 4: a really good sign. And I was like, yeah, like
- 4:30Speaker 4: my best friend would totally be in this room, so
- 4:33Speaker 4: I'd recommend it one million percent.
- 4:36Speaker 1: So then when did you start TikTok and starting like
- 4:40Speaker 1: when did you start social media?
- 4:42Speaker 4: I started social media my junior year of high school,
- 4:46Speaker 4: so I had been doing it for a couple of years.
- 4:49Speaker 2: But it really didn't play a part into me rushing
- 4:53Speaker 2: at all.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Like I in my heart and in my soul my body,
- 4:59Speaker 4: I didn't ever feel like social media was any like
- 5:05Speaker 4: one up, Like.
- 5:06Speaker 2: It didn't separate me from people, like still to this.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Day, like when I talked to like followers of mine,
- 5:12Speaker 4: like all I can say is I'm just the same
- 5:15Speaker 4: as you, And that's all I've ever wanted to feel.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's all I've ever wanted, like other people
- 5:19Speaker 2: to feel.
- 5:20Speaker 4: So being in a sorority only made it more like
- 5:24Speaker 4: grounding for me, and like I would be going on
- 5:27Speaker 4: brand trips and I could like come back to like
- 5:29Speaker 4: my sorority house and like all my story sisters are
- 5:32Speaker 4: like sitting there and like just doing normal college things.
- 5:36Speaker 2: So it really didn't play that big of a part
- 5:38Speaker 2: into it.
- 5:39Speaker 4: And I always people always say, like ASU is like
- 5:41Speaker 4: such the influencer school, like everyone there is like has
- 5:45Speaker 4: followers or is.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Like trying to be an influencer.
- 5:48Speaker 4: And so I guess maybe that like pluted into it
- 5:50Speaker 4: a little bit because I didn't feel different.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And you didn't feel different while you were rushing either.
- 5:55Speaker 6: Not at all.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Like was everyone who were around kind of like tiktoking
- 5:59Speaker 3: and stuff too?
- 6:01Speaker 2: Oh yeah, for sure, Like I ticked off the whole thing.
- 6:04Speaker 4: I yeah, I was videoing everything, but no, never once
- 6:08Speaker 4: like did they make me feel like any of the
- 6:11Speaker 4: houses ever made me feel like different than anyone else.
- 6:14Speaker 4: So I think that definitely plays into the part of like,
- 6:17Speaker 4: that's why my experience was probably so good, as they
- 6:20Speaker 4: made me feel like just the next person, which is
- 6:23Speaker 4: like how I want to be, Like that's how I
- 6:24Speaker 4: want to feel.
- 6:25Speaker 2: So it's yeah, not a problem at all.
- 6:29Speaker 1: And you also have your amazing clothing brand called Jane Doe.
- 6:34Speaker 1: When did you start that?
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I started that my sophomore year.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Actually, I honestly like I was with the guy, so
- 6:43Speaker 4: I met my boyfriend or my boyfriend at the time,
- 6:47Speaker 4: like the first day of college. He was the first
- 6:50Speaker 4: guy I ever like talked to, and we kind of
- 6:53Speaker 4: had like gone through some stuff, and there was spring break.
- 6:56Speaker 4: He like went off with his friends to Hawaii and
- 6:59Speaker 4: I was stuck in Arizona and I was like, oh
- 7:02Speaker 4: my gosh, I hate this, Like I need to like
- 7:04Speaker 4: boss up really quick.
- 7:06Speaker 2: So my mom was like, you need to come home.
- 7:07Speaker 2: She flew me home, and.
- 7:10Speaker 4: In one night, I had like a website, an LLC,
- 7:13Speaker 4: the name, like all of that, and it just like.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Started from there.
- 7:17Speaker 1: That's incredible, And wait, what's the why how did you
- 7:20Speaker 1: come up with the name Jane Doe.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Yeah, so my middle name is Jane, and so I
- 7:25Speaker 4: wanted to kind of plan to that.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And then a Jane Doe.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Is like a John Doe is like an unidentified person,
- 7:33Speaker 4: and Jane Doe was like the girl version of that.
- 7:35Speaker 4: And I just thought it was cool because I'm so
- 7:37Speaker 4: like I always say, like, be the be you.
- 7:40Speaker 2: It's the best way to be.
- 7:41Speaker 4: It's the best version to be, Like, don't try to
- 7:43Speaker 4: be someone else, Like as long as you're just being yourself,
- 7:46Speaker 4: that's the best way to be.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And so I'm like an unidentify like you.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Don't have to be identified is one thing, like you
- 7:53Speaker 4: don't have to be like streetwear. I don't have to
- 7:54Speaker 4: be like Southern bell, like be you like that's just it.
- 7:58Speaker 2: So I don't know. I like and I love the
- 8:00Speaker 2: name Jane Do. I feel like it's super.
- 8:02Speaker 1: No, it's unique. And also a lot of your pieces
- 8:04Speaker 1: you can play off of them to make them whatever
- 8:07Speaker 1: you want. So there are reliable pieces that you can
- 8:11Speaker 1: just build on and make into whatever your style or
- 8:14Speaker 1: personality is exactly.
- 8:16Speaker 2: That's the goal.
- 8:16Speaker 1: That's that was Here we go Jane Doe.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I love it.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Do you have any advice for girls going into rush
- 8:25Speaker 3: right now?
- 8:26Speaker 2: Yeah? For sure.
- 8:28Speaker 4: I would say my biggest advice is just like keep
- 8:31Speaker 4: an open mind, like everyone says it, but don't go
- 8:36Speaker 4: a house because the person you met in rush was
- 8:39Speaker 4: going that house.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Like that is just like not how it works.
- 8:42Speaker 4: And my biggest thing is, like everyone everyone says this
- 8:45Speaker 4: is be yourself, but like you have to really like
- 8:48Speaker 4: like focus on that, because if you walk into a
- 8:52Speaker 4: house and you were trying to fit in, you will
- 8:56Speaker 4: spend the rest of your college experience feeling like you
- 8:59Speaker 4: don't fit it because during that process you were trying
- 9:03Speaker 4: to form into how this house particularly was instead just
- 9:08Speaker 4: like being yourself. Go into these houses like you want
- 9:12Speaker 4: them to accept you as.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Who you are, so that the.
- 9:16Speaker 4: Rest of your time just is way better that. That's
- 9:20Speaker 4: my advice is, don't listen to other people and just
- 9:23Speaker 4: be yourself and you will end exactly where you're supposed to.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Even if your experience doesn't go exactly how you want,
- 9:30Speaker 4: stick it out and like it might be the best
- 9:33Speaker 4: thing that's.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Ever happened to you.
- 9:35Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I love that, Riley.
- 9:37Speaker 6: That's great advice.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Hey Taylor, So where did you go to school?
- 9:57Speaker 7: I went to James Madison in Virginia. Were you in Yeah,
- 10:02Speaker 7: I was in THETA Okay cool. Did you have an
- 10:05Speaker 7: overall good experience?
- 10:08Speaker 6: Yeah? I loved it. I loved it.
- 10:10Speaker 7: I'd tell I met all my best friends, so I'd
- 10:13Speaker 7: say pretty good experience.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Did you always know that you wanted to be in
- 10:17Speaker 1: a sorority?
- 10:19Speaker 7: Yeah, that was like one thing I was always very
- 10:21Speaker 7: confident in. I'm like super girly and was into everything
- 10:25Speaker 7: that came with a sorority. But I also kind of
- 10:28Speaker 7: jokingly said that I was like a bare minimum sorority
- 10:30Speaker 7: girl because I'd like make my friends, I love the community,
- 10:33Speaker 7: but like I didn't.
- 10:34Speaker 6: Hold any leadership positions or I wasn't like the most
- 10:38Speaker 6: strict about it.
- 10:39Speaker 7: Like so I always joked that I enjoyed the friends
- 10:43Speaker 7: aspect and the bonds you made.
- 10:44Speaker 3: But like, yeah, yeah, how did you start doing content?
- 10:50Speaker 3: Did you start when you were in school?
- 10:52Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 10:53Speaker 7: That's actually how I got my start was I was
- 10:56Speaker 7: a freshman at JAMU kind of during COVID, and I'd
- 10:59Speaker 7: post a ton of like what to pack for college,
- 11:02Speaker 7: like what I wore during rush, how to study, what
- 11:05Speaker 7: it's like being in a sorority, and like that college niche,
- 11:09Speaker 7: and then kind of just expanded it.
- 11:10Speaker 6: To all things lifestyle.
- 11:12Speaker 7: But yeah, that's why've been in a sorority, And Jamie,
- 11:14Speaker 7: you had such a special place in my heart because
- 11:15Speaker 7: it kind of grew.
- 11:17Speaker 6: My love for the social media world in that industry.
- 11:20Speaker 3: But it's so interesting, like I feel like now how
- 11:24Speaker 3: much social media can play like an aspect in like
- 11:29Speaker 3: in literally like changing people's lives.
- 11:31Speaker 1: And social media now on like your full time job.
- 11:35Speaker 7: Yeah, right now it's my full time job and it's
- 11:37Speaker 7: like the best thing ever.
- 11:39Speaker 1: So that's amazing. So how do you think sorority rush
- 11:44Speaker 1: shaped you into being the person that you are today.
- 11:48Speaker 6: That's such a good question.
- 11:50Speaker 7: I feel like it gave me good I would say,
- 11:53Speaker 7: like life skills, like people skills Like I feel like
- 11:56Speaker 7: so much of college is what you learn outside of
- 11:59Speaker 7: the class room, and I feel like it prepared me
- 12:03Speaker 7: for life after college better.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Yea, So yeah, do you think that like rush talk
- 12:10Speaker 3: on like TikTok, do you think that has made it
- 12:13Speaker 3: like more competitive to get into a sorority?
- 12:18Speaker 6: Yeah? I think so.
- 12:20Speaker 7: I feel like it depends on your college too, But
- 12:23Speaker 7: I definitely think social media like has blown it up
- 12:27Speaker 7: and also glamorize it a little bit.
- 12:29Speaker 6: And so, I mean, I had a great.
- 12:31Speaker 7: Experience, but I can also see why it gets stereotyped
- 12:35Speaker 7: as maybe being stressful or like very clicky. Like I
- 12:39Speaker 7: could see why that would stress girls out as well,
- 12:41Speaker 7: and just like competitive because so many girls want to
- 12:44Speaker 7: be in one.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I totally agree. Did you know about your school's rush
- 12:48Speaker 1: process before starting?
- 12:52Speaker 6: Honestly, no, Like no, I had no idea like going
- 12:55Speaker 6: into it.
- 12:56Speaker 7: I knew it wasn't in the summer like in the
- 12:57Speaker 7: southern schools they're doing it like you go early for it.
- 13:00Speaker 7: I knew it was like mine was the end of September,
- 13:04Speaker 7: so that was and we were doing on like two weekends,
- 13:07Speaker 7: and that was all I knew, so it wasn't as intense,
- 13:10Speaker 7: but they were still like full, like six am to
- 13:13Speaker 7: nine pm days each both weekends, so it was definitely
- 13:16Speaker 7: still intense. But I didn't really know what I was
- 13:18Speaker 7: getting into until I just already signed.
- 13:20Speaker 6: Up for it.
- 13:21Speaker 3: On a rush talk, I feel like you see like
- 13:24Speaker 3: all like these videos and girls doing like get readies
- 13:28Speaker 3: with me and like what they're gonna wear. Do you
- 13:30Speaker 3: think there's any like lies like behind the rush talk
- 13:35Speaker 3: because I feel like you can't always talk about what's
- 13:38Speaker 3: like going on within your sorority because like the.
- 13:41Speaker 6: Rules and stuff.
- 13:42Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, no, I feel like that's a huge part
- 13:45Speaker 7: of it. Like they make it very clear what topics
- 13:48Speaker 7: to avoid. I I can't remember exactly, but I want
- 13:52Speaker 7: to say it was like the Three Bees, like beer
- 13:54Speaker 7: boys and something else, like basically saying like you want
- 13:58Speaker 7: to keep it very pg, you don't want to talk
- 14:00Speaker 7: about anything too controversial, like during the recruitment process at least,
- 14:05Speaker 7: But then I also think they wanted people, They wanted
- 14:08Speaker 7: the girls in the sorority to keep you know, a good,
- 14:11Speaker 7: clean social media presence too, because then that would impact
- 14:14Speaker 7: the sorority. But that was never an issue for me
- 14:17Speaker 7: because I feel like I was never the type to
- 14:20Speaker 7: like go posting all my alcohol or something like.
- 14:22Speaker 6: I wasn't like.
- 14:23Speaker 1: That at all.
- 14:24Speaker 7: But I definitely could see why some girls would be like, oh,
- 14:28Speaker 7: like this is off limits, or I don't know, there's
- 14:31Speaker 7: there's a fine line, or I remember during rush, they
- 14:34Speaker 7: all the people say like, don't bring up boys at all,
- 14:36Speaker 7: and one girl in the room brought up like her dad,
- 14:39Speaker 7: and then she quickly's talking and was like nervous, but
- 14:41Speaker 7: it's like it's her dad, Like no one, no one
- 14:43Speaker 7: really cared.
- 14:44Speaker 6: But there's definitely the overthinking part where you're like, oh,
- 14:47Speaker 6: should I have just said that? Or am I going
- 14:50Speaker 6: to get in trouble?
- 14:51Speaker 1: Oh I totally understand that. How would you explain your
- 14:55Speaker 1: sorority experience to someone who's never been in one?
- 15:00Speaker 3: Good one?
- 15:02Speaker 6: That's such a good question.
- 15:04Speaker 7: I feel like I'd like the process or just being
- 15:06Speaker 7: in a sorority in general.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I think all of it, you know, like if somebody
- 15:10Speaker 1: looked at you and was like, why should I join
- 15:13Speaker 1: a sorority or do you think this is the right decision, Like,
- 15:16Speaker 1: what would you say to that person?
- 15:19Speaker 7: I definitely I think I would encourage them to go
- 15:22Speaker 7: for it, just because the worst that could happen is
- 15:25Speaker 7: that you drop, Like if that's the worst that can happen.
- 15:28Speaker 7: And I think it's a great way to give yourself
- 15:31Speaker 7: a community in college. And I especially think if you
- 15:34Speaker 7: go to like a bigger school too, it's really hard
- 15:36Speaker 7: to like find your people. And you know, there's like
- 15:39Speaker 7: the girls doing sports and then there's like theater in
- 15:42Speaker 7: the more musical industry. And so I felt like being
- 15:45Speaker 7: in a sorority kind of gave me that identity. And
- 15:48Speaker 7: I remember in high school feeling like I was one
- 15:50Speaker 7: of those girls that, like I was never really into sports,
- 15:53Speaker 7: but I also wasn't really into like music or theater.
- 15:56Speaker 6: But I always felt like I had this creative side.
- 15:59Speaker 7: And I remember thinking, like sority like life is perfect
- 16:03Speaker 7: because it's like it's social. You're also doing a lot
- 16:06Speaker 7: of like volunteer work, which I truly believe in.
- 16:09Speaker 6: You're surrounding yourself with people with good values, and I.
- 16:13Speaker 7: Don't know, it's fun like the fast and like the outfits,
- 16:15Speaker 7: like they make decks on like what to wear and
- 16:18Speaker 7: like FASTO.
- 16:19Speaker 6: It's like kind of creative and fun.
- 16:21Speaker 7: So I'd encourage someone to go for it and if
- 16:23Speaker 7: they didn't like it, they could always leave it.
- 16:25Speaker 6: But I feel like I.
- 16:29Speaker 7: Definitely think, at least from my school, it definitely gets
- 16:33Speaker 7: this like very intimidating aspect. But I found most of
- 16:36Speaker 7: the girls honest, honestly, like all were pretty nice and welcoming.
- 16:39Speaker 6: With open arms.
- 16:55Speaker 3: So clearly went into college pretty young, right I did.
- 16:59Speaker 5: I started calling really young.
- 17:01Speaker 8: I graduated high school when I was fourteen, so I
- 17:05Speaker 8: had applied to CLA found out I got in just
- 17:09Speaker 8: shooting my shop with my dream school.
- 17:10Speaker 5: It was either that or USC, just because I was
- 17:13Speaker 5: not going to move across the country at such a
- 17:15Speaker 5: young age.
- 17:17Speaker 8: But thank goodness, I ended up being a Bruin because
- 17:20Speaker 8: that's where my loyalty has always lied. But of course,
- 17:23Speaker 8: when I first started school, I was not thinking about
- 17:26Speaker 8: anything social, to say the least. I was still doing
- 17:30Speaker 8: all of the high school things with my friends and
- 17:32Speaker 8: just going to class like a normal high schooler would.
- 17:35Speaker 5: I mean, I wasn't even old enough to drive yet.
- 17:38Speaker 5: Did you live at home? I did?
- 17:39Speaker 8: I lived at home, so I live about fifteen minutes
- 17:42Speaker 8: away from campus, but I had to get dropped off
- 17:45Speaker 8: at class in the morning and I picked up in
- 17:47Speaker 8: the afternoon. So it was a very strange experience to
- 17:51Speaker 8: say the least.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And so did you not DORM?
- 17:54Speaker 8: I didn't DORM. I remember telling my mom when the
- 17:57Speaker 8: first guy tried to hit on me after, I was.
- 18:00Speaker 5: Like, Mom, he has facial hair. This is so weird.
- 18:04Speaker 8: Because of course, even though he was probably not that old,
- 18:07Speaker 8: he was like twenty or twenty one, which to me
- 18:10Speaker 8: was way too old at having just turned fifteen.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:14Speaker 5: I had just turned fifteen.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Wow. So you graduated in high school at fourteen? Yeah,
- 18:20Speaker 1: and then you were you got into UCLA and you
- 18:22Speaker 1: were a freshman in college at fifteen years old.
- 18:25Speaker 5: Yes.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Wow.
- 18:27Speaker 8: It was a very non traditional experience, to say the least.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Did you end up joining a sorority?
- 18:34Speaker 1: Then?
- 18:34Speaker 8: So right after I started college that was fall twenty nineteen,
- 18:38Speaker 8: and then everything shut down because of COVID midway through
- 18:41Speaker 8: my first year. So it definitely benefited me, despite how
- 18:46Speaker 8: horrible COVID was, but it definitely benefited me having online
- 18:52Speaker 8: school so that I could do all of the high
- 18:54Speaker 8: school things with my friends. I still hung out with
- 18:57Speaker 8: a high school friend group, went to homecome proms, and
- 19:01Speaker 8: kind of wrapped up that experience in my first two
- 19:05Speaker 8: years of college that were all online. And then the
- 19:08Speaker 8: world opened back up again in twenty twenty one, and
- 19:10Speaker 8: I was seventeen almost eighteen throughout that year, and that
- 19:15Speaker 8: is when I decided that I wanted to get involved.
- 19:18Speaker 8: All of my friends were about a year older than
- 19:20Speaker 8: me and had graduated high school, so I could finally
- 19:23Speaker 8: have the true freshman experience.
- 19:25Speaker 1: So you felt like you were kind of now on
- 19:28Speaker 1: the same track.
- 19:29Speaker 8: Yes, So even though I was a junior, it felt
- 19:31Speaker 8: like I was having the freshman experience. And I never
- 19:36Speaker 8: saw myself wanting to join a sorority. I had the
- 19:39Speaker 8: preconceived idea that they were cultie and weird.
- 19:43Speaker 5: And I didn't want to buy my friends. But my
- 19:46Speaker 5: mom was an assorty.
- 19:47Speaker 8: She was in Alpha Gamma Delta and had the time
- 19:50Speaker 8: of her life in Greek life and kept encouraging me
- 19:53Speaker 8: to go to all of the socials and get to
- 19:56Speaker 8: know what rush is like. And I had the idea
- 20:00Speaker 8: that I could go through sorority rush, meet girls in
- 20:04Speaker 8: all of these different houses, make friends across the road
- 20:07Speaker 8: and then I would never have to join, but I
- 20:09Speaker 8: would have so many friends immediately, which was I thought,
- 20:13Speaker 8: my perfect plan. And then I ended up going through
- 20:16Speaker 8: Rush and meeting all of these amazing girls who I loved,
- 20:20Speaker 8: and they told me about how they were going to
- 20:22Speaker 8: be watching The Bachelor on Monday nights together and having
- 20:24Speaker 8: a met Gala watch party and having chapter dinners and
- 20:28Speaker 8: going on retreats, and I had the biggest fomo ever
- 20:33Speaker 8: and I was like, you guys are going to be
- 20:34Speaker 8: doing all of these things without me, and that's why
- 20:38Speaker 8: they hooked me, and I knew.
- 20:39Speaker 5: That I had to join.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Oh I love that, And so then how was the
- 20:44Speaker 1: experience for you being younger?
- 20:48Speaker 5: I loved it, Honestly.
- 20:49Speaker 8: It felt like I had a huge group of built
- 20:52Speaker 8: in big sisters, even with the girls in my pledge class,
- 20:56Speaker 8: which was a lot of fun, but talking about things
- 20:58Speaker 8: like I don't know how off the record I can go,
- 21:01Speaker 8: but I mean most girls had a fake id going
- 21:03Speaker 8: to college and it had like all of these experiences
- 21:06Speaker 8: with guys, and I was so new to all of
- 21:09Speaker 8: that territory. So it allowed for a lot of people
- 21:12Speaker 8: to take me under their wing and show me the
- 21:14Speaker 8: ropes of those kind of experiences that I didn't have
- 21:17Speaker 8: in high school because I graduated so young.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Wow, that's amazing.
- 21:22Speaker 3: So you really did have like such a good time.
- 21:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I had such a great time.
- 21:26Speaker 8: I rushed Alpha Fi, met a lot of my best
- 21:29Speaker 8: friends there who I still keep in touch with. A
- 21:31Speaker 8: couple of my close friends are still seniors and about
- 21:34Speaker 8: to graduate this year. And it was the best decision.
- 21:38Speaker 8: I'm so glad I did it, and I had a
- 21:41Speaker 8: really great experience in Greek life.
- 21:43Speaker 1: That's amazing. And did you feel differently in any way,
- 21:46Speaker 1: because I know throughout your life you obviously have been
- 21:52Speaker 1: in a bunch of roles and you're in the acting world,
- 21:55Speaker 1: so you had some sort of a following going into college.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I mean, some of the things that you were in
- 22:00Speaker 1: are insane. I see clips of Good Doctor all the
- 22:03Speaker 1: time and I'm like, this is amazing. So I mean,
- 22:07Speaker 1: kudos to you. I know, the list goes on and
- 22:10Speaker 1: on and on from Chosen Young Sheldon, Criminal Minds like
- 22:15Speaker 1: it's insane. So kudos to you. But how did was that?
- 22:20Speaker 1: Did that affect your experience at all going into college
- 22:23Speaker 1: and especially being so young.
- 22:26Speaker 8: It was a little bit different having a sense of
- 22:28Speaker 8: responsibility and working. During my first year of school, I
- 22:32Speaker 8: definitely had to miss out on a handful of social
- 22:36Speaker 8: events to either prioritize an audition or I flew away
- 22:40Speaker 8: a couple of times to film something. But I was
- 22:43Speaker 8: very lucky to end up in a chapter where all
- 22:45Speaker 8: of the girls were super career driven, so we had
- 22:48Speaker 8: a lot of pre med students, girls on the dance team,
- 22:52Speaker 8: and people who also had this kind of bigger responsibility
- 22:55Speaker 8: outside of Greek life, so I never felt like punished
- 22:58Speaker 8: or shamed for miss things, and it was a very
- 23:01Speaker 8: supportive environment.
- 23:02Speaker 5: And then when you have friends who were striving on
- 23:05Speaker 5: their own.
- 23:05Speaker 8: Path and wanting to follow their dreams and being very
- 23:08Speaker 8: career oriented, and it makes you want to be busier
- 23:10Speaker 8: and better at the same time.
- 23:12Speaker 5: So that was a great environment for me at least.
- 23:15Speaker 8: But I guess like the only thing that I really
- 23:17Speaker 8: noticed about being younger than everyone else was just I
- 23:21Speaker 8: guess more in like mixers with the frat environments. So
- 23:25Speaker 8: even though I was seventeen, definitely called jailbait a lot
- 23:27Speaker 8: of times, which is so fair. I'm glad that they
- 23:29Speaker 8: didn't want to talk to me because I didn't really
- 23:31Speaker 8: have any interest, so but besides that made a lot
- 23:34Speaker 8: of great friends.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:36Speaker 1: No, but I'm also sure like the experience throughout your life,
- 23:39Speaker 1: just like graduating high school so early and going into
- 23:42Speaker 1: that college environment so young, you were probably also extremely
- 23:46Speaker 1: mature for your age, especially being so career driven, like
- 23:50Speaker 1: you were probably a thirty year old living in a
- 23:53Speaker 1: seventeen year old body. Like really like the mentality wise,
- 23:56Speaker 1: and I always got that too growing up because I
- 23:58Speaker 1: had to grow up a little fast than most kids
- 24:01Speaker 1: as well, and it really like it probably it made
- 24:04Speaker 1: you who you are today. So everything happens for a reason,
- 24:07Speaker 1: and it's you know, this is why you're getting your
- 24:09Speaker 1: masters now at UCLA, so that's amazing.
- 24:13Speaker 8: Yeah, I definitely had a unique perspective. So I could
- 24:18Speaker 8: say that I had accomplished certain things or been working
- 24:21Speaker 8: a quote unquote full time job my whole life, but
- 24:23Speaker 8: I was like, oh, I've never taken a shot of alcohol,
- 24:26Speaker 8: on the other hand, So it was fun to kind
- 24:28Speaker 8: of find that balance and experiences as my friends as
- 24:32Speaker 8: I got older and meshing my like social age and
- 24:36Speaker 8: professional age at the same time, which and that was fun.
- 24:39Speaker 1: That is great.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Well, Caitlin thank you so much for coming on, and.
- 24:43Speaker 5: Thank you for having me.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Best of luck, Thanks Bice,
