- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: So right now, we have
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor Lawrence talk a little bit more in depth about just specifically Trevor Lawrence and my expectations and and just you know
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Conversation about the Jaguar starting quarterback form a number one overall pick Trevor Lawrence who is going to be entering what?
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: Year six is that right?
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Good, no scratches.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: He is entering year six in the NFL.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to count 2021 as an actual year, which of course we have to Trevor Lawrence entering year six going to be 27 in October Where is Trevor Lawrence at and it's career?
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all know, I have been a big Trevor Lawrence fan, just from like, what he's had to deal with in Jacksonville, the way he's handled himself, the way he's played most of the time, and the way he's led the team and worked, and it's just, I mean, thinking back to, you know, when the Jaguars had the opportunity to draft him, it was so exciting.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: I was, I believe Justin Fields was a franchise quarterback too.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: That year, I thought it was a coin flip between who you should take.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I was actually going with fields because I thought fields just had a little bit more physical tools.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: It turns out that fields really struggled with timing.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: and really diagnosing what was happening in front of him a little bit.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think he's had the bearist shake, but Trevor Lawrence was clearly the better pick, and the jag wars were right in taking Trevor Lawrence, and the thing about Trevor is,
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: Even though I've favored Justin Fields slightly, I said that I felt both of them were franchise quarterbacks, and I was fired up for the Jaguar to get Trevor Lawrence.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I've been fired up about him pretty much ever since, just again, because of the way he handles himself, the way he plays the game, the physical talent, he brings absolutely incredible.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: And you'll look at,
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: what he was able to do last year.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: First time with a big boy NFL offense, like truly top tier NFL offense in terms of the coaching and the schematics of it.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: And it was incredible.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: 39 touchdowns MVP finalist, multiple fourth quarter comebacks in the playoff game that they lost.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: He had multiple comebacks in the fourth quarter.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: The defense just couldn't stop Josh Allen at the end.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: Still not even ranked.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: Close to the top 10 quarterbacks in the league, according to this ESPN poll that pulls scouts, executives, coaches, et cetera, not even close to the top 10.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think they had them around like 16.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: On our will mention, I think Dr. Everlorn's is about to kind of really put the league on notice for
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: continued stretch because I think that for the doubters, the naysayers, the detractors, it's been, you need to do this for an extended period of time, which of course it's been difficult to do prior to now because of the circumstances and the context of his situation.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: his first year he was coached by Urban Meyer.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, goodness gracious.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: Second year, Doug Peterson comes in, renewed energy, renewed excitement.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: They get it going in a big way.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: He carries that into 2023 and has the Jack Wars first place in the AFC until he gets injured.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: Week 13, I believe it was against the Cincinnati Bengals and then thanks fall apart from there in 2023.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: That dove
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: Press Taylor becoming the full-time play caller for the Jack Wars in 2024, Doug Peterson taking his foot off the gas, hiring and a trotace, defensive coordinator and Ryan Nielsen, and things completely falling apart in Jacksonville, and look, for as much credit as I gave Doug early on, and he did deserve that.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: His offense fell apart after Jim Bob Kudor left the building, and it wasn't just like
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: concepts that were heavily utilized when Jim Bob Guter was the Jaguar's passing game coordinator just disappeared.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why, but you know, Mesh was bread and butter for the Jaguars in 2022.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: Gone after that.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: What happened?
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's just one example, but Doug Peterson
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: Again, for as much credit as I gave him for being an adult in the room when he arrived, I think he took his foot off the gas.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think he was unwilling to adjust to the modern game.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, well, he was just coaching the Eagles.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: 2017 when he won the Super Bowl, that was like,
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the amount of change that has gone on the league in the league from a coaching and a player standpoint between 2017 to 2022 and then 2022 to 2025.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it has been like so much has changed, schematically, so much has changed in terms of like, the work you have to put in, the adjusting you have to do.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: Coaches are working harder and smarter and I think that they just generally are smarter now
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: So, it fell off for Doug Peterson, right?
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: You could also, you know, bad luck.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and bad, bad injury luck, definitely hurt Doug Peterson's chances here, but then 2024 was just, you know, really, really poor last ditch effort to save a job by Doug and Co and then it fell apart and then you get Liam Cohen.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: and obviously you get James Gladstone and Tony Bicelli and Trevor Lawrence finally had a stellar offensive coach like a legitimate star offensive coach.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: You might not put him in the very top tier with McVay in Shanahan, but if he's not there he's right below it.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen and he has a great staff.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: great offensive staff and you have all that going for Trevor Lawrence now and you also have now time on task together.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: The relationship is built here with of course relations are always evolving but you have a foundation of a relationship with Trevor Lawrence the offensive coaching staff particularly him Cohen and I think that that's huge going into this year.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: think the longer you can keep that group together, those two together specifically, the better shape you're gonna be in.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, let's not forget, Trevor Lawrence has all the physical tools in the world that you could ask for.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: Great athlete, he's not Lamar Jackson, but let's be honest, Lamar Jackson doesn't have the same level of accuracy and poise that Trevor Lawrence has.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: But Lawrence himself is a really good athlete like, if you take away his first and second read,
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: He'll kill you with his legs.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: He absolutely will.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you're wanting to consistently have like design runs, but scrambling.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, throwing on the move absolutely.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: He can throw it, roll it into his right, roll it into his left full speed.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's all there for Trevor Lawrence physically, which is just so cool.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I think,
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's a couple comparisons from a physical standpoint.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think with other quarterbacks in the league for Trevor right now, I think Drake May is a reasonable physical comparison.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I also think like Justin Herbert's bigger, but you know, both of those guys, I think similar,
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's just something to travel Lawrence's ability to throw on the move and create activity with the ball, which I think Drake may have.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Herbert has that as much though, but Herbert probably does have a little bit bigger arm, he's stronger physically, but yeah, I think Trevor Lawrence has just some incredible physical tools.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's only a handful of quarterbacks you could say probably have better tools, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, maybe Caleb Williams, the other two guys we just talked about, you know, Lamar Jack.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's in that conversation with all those guys.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: He now has receiving talent.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: out the Wazoo, like all over the place, great receiving talent, which is really exciting.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: And B.T.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: Jake and Rift returned to form, you now have legitimate wider silver one talent, legitimate complimentary pieces, like beyond complimentary pieces, which a Kobe, Parker, Travis, Britain Strange, et cetera, the list goes on.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: There's other guys that can help in the receiving game, basal too, and Lee Quant Allen, Nate Borkerture, Tanner Koziel is a good receiving diet
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: Um, if Colvian landing is healthy, a lot of people kind of back on the Jaguar's offensive line and the interior, I get like, you know, McCary and Haynesie, I think they're replacing the level starters.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: Cleveland's very good.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: But if you have Colvian landing, I think you have a top 10 pass pro pair of tag, like a top 10 pass protecting tackle duo in football, right, I think that's a big deal.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: You have a defense that's going to be good, like the Jaguar's defense is very good.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to help Trevor Lawrence and the offense.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: You also have now the fact that Trevor Lawrence is entering his prime.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: He's seen a lot of different things in this league.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's been coached by a lot of different people in this league now.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's 26 about to be 27, entering his prime in the second year of a really good offense.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: And again, the offensive fallout thing that people talk about like, oh, there's a year of tape on Liam cones offense.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: There was already a year of tape on Liam cones offense.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: The fact of the matter is, for most really good offensive coaches, defenses don't just catch up.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: right.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's the offensive coaches that maybe were one trick pony that didn't evolve.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe just had supreme talent for a year where things usually end up catching up.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: But Liam Cohen, who's like a tireless worker and an absolute brilliant playcaller, play designer, offensive coach.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's just gonna fall off.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: So like, I think you can throw that out the window.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, all this to say, I see Trevor Lawrence entering the top five quarterbacks in the NFL like with a stamp on it this year, certified.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he's gonna put himself in the conversation to be tier one.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, tier one for me is clear right now.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's Josh Allen and Patrick Holmes.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: I have Patrick Holmes, one still.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Allen to Stafford III.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Trevor Lawrence is going to put himself in that conversation.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: And he's going to be that good this year with Liam Cohen and the rest of this crew around him.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
