- 0:33Speaker 1: up in that girl. Megan actually doesn't want Real Housewives,
- 0:37Speaker 1: but save yourself, Save yourself, Megan. That's what we got
- 0:40Speaker 1: it covered. But so thrilled that this even happened to
- 0:44Speaker 1: begin with. And so the fact that there's no real
- 0:46Speaker 1: Housewives of Gross Point, guess what We've got one better
- 0:49Speaker 1: for you. We've got gross Point Garden. They should do one, right,
- 0:54Speaker 1: So we've done this recap and guess who is on

- 1:05Speaker 1: stalked us, but they are here. I'm so excited to
- 1:07Speaker 1: welcome you.
- 1:08Speaker 2: In.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Welcome in you guys.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Stock.
- 1:17Speaker 3: You didn't know about it, so I guess I don't
- 1:18Speaker 3: know if that's stalking or no.
- 1:20Speaker 1: But Liz crap, Shout out to your friend. Shout out
- 1:23Speaker 1: to your friend Liz Craft, who I will give my

- 1:32Speaker 1: friends who's she's obviously a friend and writer. You guys
- 1:36Speaker 1: are all just sickly told you about my little podcast.
- 1:42Speaker 1: So thank you so much for listening to the recaps.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And we are so thrilled about this show. If you
- 1:47Speaker 1: have not watched this show, you can binge all thirteen
- 1:49Speaker 1: episodes on Peacock right now. The season just wrapped. The finale.
- 1:54Speaker 1: We are not going to give spoilers on Keish. Who's Keish?
- 1:57Speaker 1: You don't know, go find out, But like we're I'm
- 2:00Speaker 1: not going to give you. Yeah, we're not going to
- 2:01Speaker 1: give you the spoilers. You have to binge it. It
- 2:03Speaker 1: is so binge worthy you're not going to want to
- 2:04Speaker 1: do it any other way. To be honest with you,
- 2:06Speaker 1: it was hard, you know, in the in this day
- 2:09Speaker 1: and age, Jenna and Bill like you know, we want
- 2:12Speaker 1: our we want our murder mystery solved right quick and
- 2:15Speaker 1: this dark comedy. It gave us everything. Please like, bring
- 2:20Speaker 1: us to the beginning, the foundation. What was the seed
- 2:23Speaker 1: that grew in the garden of the Gross Point Garden
- 2:25Speaker 1: Society that gave you this idea?
- 2:27Speaker 4: I love them as so many garden metaphors.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah, speaking language, we really missed sort of the throwback
- 2:35Speaker 2: sort of television, uh, you know, things like Desperate Housewives
- 2:39Speaker 2: and How to Get Away with Murder. You know what
- 2:42Speaker 2: we thought of time would be like appointment TV, where
- 2:45Speaker 2: you had to kind of check in week to week
- 2:47Speaker 2: and you gather around the water cooler to talk about
- 2:50Speaker 2: what happened that night. And so we wanted to kind
- 2:53Speaker 2: of bring that back to network television and you know
- 2:57Speaker 2: the fun of you know, those worlds and those storylines,
- 3:02Speaker 2: and it just was absent from the landscape for a
- 3:06Speaker 2: long time because so much a network has been dominated
- 3:09Speaker 2: by procedurals, and so we wanted to kind of give
- 3:12Speaker 2: it another shot, and you know, luckily so did NBC.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think it's sort of in the wheelhouse
- 3:18Speaker 5: of things we both like to write. It's soapy, it's
- 3:21Speaker 5: a little funny, it's a little dark.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Yeah, we liked the darkly comedic element yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, gosh, So go on Good Girls, a show that
- 3:34Speaker 1: Jenna created and I helped her run.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And you know, we kind of carried that home a
- 3:38Speaker 2: little bit into gross Point, but we didn't go as
- 3:41Speaker 2: dark as we did.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, but now a little bit lighter, so we
- 3:45Speaker 5: tried to keep things a little.
- 3:47Speaker 6: Now, how did you how did you decide on gross Point? Now, Bill,
- 3:50Speaker 6: I know you're from there. We have talked offline, but
- 3:53Speaker 6: I'm just so curious how you how you? I mean,
- 3:56Speaker 6: when when I saw I was driving down Lancasham in
- 3:59Speaker 6: North Hollywood and I saw gross Point Garden Society.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I like screached over.
- 4:03Speaker 6: She cried, she picture to be honest, totally, But how
- 4:08Speaker 6: did you get Gross Point?
- 4:11Speaker 3: Well?
- 4:11Speaker 2: I think you know, we had talked about doing, you know,
- 4:14Speaker 2: a sort of Desperate Housewives kind of show in a sense,
- 4:19Speaker 2: and you know, gross Point is such a perfect little
- 4:23Speaker 2: hamlet where they tried to preserve this sort of money,
- 4:26Speaker 2: blue blood sort of culture their whole lives. Then ten
- 4:31Speaker 2: feet outside of it, you're surrounded by Detroit, and so
- 4:34Speaker 2: we really liked this idea that it was this isolated,
- 4:38Speaker 2: sort of insulated world. And then we came up with
- 4:41Speaker 2: the idea of the garden club because my stepmom actually
- 4:46Speaker 2: was in a garden club where they would tour backyards
- 4:49Speaker 2: and ultimately end up at the War Memorial where they
- 4:52Speaker 2: had some giant you know garden there, and.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I shout out War Memorial. Shout out. Also Bill, my
- 5:02Speaker 1: mom is in the garden club as well. I know
- 5:05Speaker 1: I may have mentioned that on the podcast, but yeah,
- 5:09Speaker 1: they don't do gardening, but they do all these amazing activities,
- 5:12Speaker 1: and yes, usually end up at the War Memorial or
- 5:14Speaker 1: at someone's lunch or brunch. But okay, so your mom
- 5:20Speaker 1: was in the garden.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Clus period was fascinated by the kind of cross section
- 5:24Speaker 2: of that world. You know, if you were from Cabbage
- 5:28Speaker 2: Patch or you were from Grosse Pointe Park in a
- 5:30Speaker 2: really big mansion, you still were part of the same club.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And so, you know, we thought, what an interesting way
- 5:36Speaker 2: that there could be class conflict, there could be tension
- 5:40Speaker 2: within all the different types of personalities and the cultures,
- 5:43Speaker 2: and it just seemed like a perfect sort of cross section.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Of you know, chaos and problems that could ensue.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Beautiful town.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Like when he shown me features of it, I'm always
- 5:56Speaker 5: blown away by the architecture and the houses like some
- 6:00Speaker 5: of those houses are giant and gorgeous and idyll idyllic,
- 6:06Speaker 5: and I just we also felt like what an aspirational
- 6:10Speaker 5: world to drop into.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Everybody wants to live in.
- 6:12Speaker 3: A house like that.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yeah, we wanted, we loved, you know, kind of pushing
- 6:17Speaker 2: Eric Damon, our costumer. He was also the costumer on
- 6:20Speaker 2: Gossip Girl and Carrie Diaries.
- 6:22Speaker 3: He's just amazing.
- 6:23Speaker 2: He's from Monroe, Michigan, and he basically pushed, you know,
- 6:29Speaker 2: all of the outfits and all the glam and just
- 6:32Speaker 2: made it, you know, so wish fulfilling, colorful world.
- 6:35Speaker 3: You just want to be in.
- 6:36Speaker 4: And so I think Rose Point lent itself very.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Well to that.
- 6:40Speaker 1: And we are from You're from Minnesota, is that right?
- 6:43Speaker 4: I'm from Minnesota.
- 6:45Speaker 5: Yes, And my dad also pitched the idea of a
- 6:47Speaker 5: garden club. We're looking for like a club, so they're
- 6:50Speaker 5: universal in the Midwest. And yes, I'm from Minnesota. Slightly
- 6:56Speaker 5: different vibe. I'm from the Twin Cities than gross Point.
- 6:58Speaker 3: But we your sawber similar. Yeah, more like Birmingham.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I would say I grew up in Birmingham and it
- 7:06Speaker 2: felt more like that.
- 7:07Speaker 4: I mean, you are serious too, Yeah, I.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Live in the.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Like anyway, Jenna, did you you worked on Desperate Housewives? Correct?
- 7:25Speaker 2: I did.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Yeah, it was my first job two years ago in Hollywood.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And yeah, that's you're both of you. I mean, it's
- 7:36Speaker 1: unbelievable your repertoire. If I may your CVS. I guess
- 7:39Speaker 1: they're calling it that now. I don't know, but I mean,
- 7:42Speaker 1: you worked on Gray's Anatomy as well, right, is that
- 7:46Speaker 1: your connection with uh Catherine, because it wasn't Catherine, I'm sorry,
- 7:52Speaker 1: not Catherine. You were Rhyme's show.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Yeah, so she was on How to Get Away with Murder.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Pete back, which is produced.
- 8:02Speaker 5: By Seana Ryans, and I did not work on that show,
- 8:05Speaker 5: but he is a very good kind of mine. And
- 8:08Speaker 5: when we were looking for Catherine, I had asked him
- 8:11Speaker 5: about Asia and he's like, she is the greatest person,
- 8:15Speaker 5: she's the greatest.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Actor, and all of those things were true.
- 8:18Speaker 3: So yeah, and then we met with her for like
- 8:21Speaker 3: a two and a half hour coffee.
- 8:23Speaker 4: That was but I think it was definitely, you know,
- 8:27Speaker 4: knowing Pete helped in all that.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 8:30Speaker 4: It's a small it's just really a small.
- 8:32Speaker 2: World and and just fire cast in general. You know,
- 8:36Speaker 2: if we if we had gotten any just one of them,
- 8:39Speaker 2: it would have been, you know, a success. And so
- 8:42Speaker 2: to have the kind of talent with Anna, Sophia, Rob
- 8:45Speaker 2: and Ben Rappaport and Melissa Vamero and Asia, it's.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Just, you know, we were blown away. It was an
- 8:52Speaker 3: embarrassment of riches.
- 8:53Speaker 1: It really was, truly, and you both included in that
- 8:56Speaker 1: because you created such an amazing world and based on
- 8:59Speaker 1: your your background and creating shows and writing, it's it's
- 9:02Speaker 1: amazing how those those came together. Would you say out
- 9:06Speaker 1: of all the shows that you worked on that this
- 9:08Speaker 1: is your favorite show?
- 9:10Speaker 3: Of course?
- 9:11Speaker 4: I mean you're working on.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Right now is always? Yeah, that's the baby, Yeah, always joke.
- 9:17Speaker 5: There's this thing with writers in Hollywood about drinking the
- 9:20Speaker 5: pool aid. It's like, no matter what show you're on,
- 9:23Speaker 5: whether it's your own you've created.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Or you're working on someone else's show, you have no perspective.
- 9:28Speaker 3: You're in a bubble.
- 9:29Speaker 2: You're in a bubble with people you've hired to basically
- 9:32Speaker 2: tell you how great the show is.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Work show.
- 9:36Speaker 4: But while you're in it, you have drunk the kool
- 9:38Speaker 4: aid and you believe you justify genius show.
- 9:42Speaker 3: All you read one tweet that's positive, and you go, well,
- 9:46Speaker 3: this person is I just know. I looked on her
- 9:49Speaker 3: on their Twitter and they have nine hundred followers. It's
- 9:52Speaker 3: four hundred.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Of those nine hundred something, we could have ten thousand,
- 9:57Speaker 2: like instantly carry them one.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I hear you. What challenges. Actually, I'm gonna
- 10:03Speaker 1: pause this for just one second. I want to comment
- 10:07Speaker 1: on what you were just saying for both of us.
- 10:09Speaker 6: My friends from gross Point have been reaching out on Facebook,
- 10:12Speaker 6: texting me. I know, Amy, you have your gross Point
- 10:15Speaker 6: text thread, and everyone loves the show.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Everyone is watching it.
- 10:20Speaker 1: You nailed it. Everyone's like, it's so gross Point. Everyone
- 10:24Speaker 1: tells us that, yeah. It's also like the you know,
- 10:28Speaker 1: the other thing is too And I think the darlings
- 10:31Speaker 1: listening will agree that it is. Like you said, you
- 10:34Speaker 1: have to find the good shows because there is there
- 10:37Speaker 1: are so many shows now. The people are streaming, they're
- 10:41Speaker 1: constantly you know, you know, you're always looking at what
- 10:44Speaker 1: you're already looking at if you're on your streaming device,
- 10:47Speaker 1: and so sometimes you need to like remember that network
- 10:51Speaker 1: shows can be so amazing when they're done so well.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And so Chef's kiss because like a lot of the
- 10:58Speaker 1: people who listen are like, I am so glad that
- 11:00Speaker 1: you started recapping this because you know that's it tends
- 11:03Speaker 1: to be somewhat of a blind spot sometimes and the
- 11:06Speaker 1: amount of like the production level of this is sick
- 11:09Speaker 1: when you know when I when you guys are throwing
- 11:12Speaker 1: out these beats you know from our era, and I'm like,
- 11:15Speaker 1: they are spending money on music, honey, like you guys
- 11:20Speaker 1: are breaking and like you said, the costuming, the storyline.
- 11:23Speaker 1: It's it's incredible. How the multiverse that you've created. How
- 11:29Speaker 1: do you not get into the weeds of creating a
- 11:32Speaker 1: murder mystery week after week, keeping it interesting and leaving
- 11:36Speaker 1: it dangling. How difficult is that?
- 11:39Speaker 3: I mean, were the weeds? Yeah?
- 11:43Speaker 2: The problem here's the network versus streaming, you know, model
- 11:47Speaker 2: the differences. So when we started production, we only had
- 11:51Speaker 2: three scripts and production was starting, so you're always getting
- 11:55Speaker 2: chased by production and the cement dries once we shoot something.
- 11:59Speaker 2: So we these giant timelines in our offices, you know
- 12:02Speaker 2: that for the future of the murder and all the things.
- 12:06Speaker 3: That happened, and we would have to be very kind
- 12:09Speaker 3: of judicious about.
- 12:10Speaker 2: How we moved everything around because once it was shot,
- 12:13Speaker 2: there was nothing we could do.
- 12:14Speaker 3: We couldn't go back and reshoot.
- 12:16Speaker 2: And so we were only about two and a half
- 12:18Speaker 2: weeks you know, ahead of production at any time, and
- 12:22Speaker 2: so it was really nailed by the Yeah, and I think.
- 12:27Speaker 5: Too, you know, we were really really didn't want to
- 12:32Speaker 5: disappoint the audience. We really wanted it all to be
- 12:35Speaker 5: additive in the end, and we wanted you to be
- 12:37Speaker 5: able to look back and even rewatch and see all
- 12:40Speaker 5: of the easter eggs that we planted, you know.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Knowing that everything, yeah, everything was designed from the beginning,
- 12:48Speaker 2: and that we knew that by the time you're thirteen
- 12:50Speaker 2: in the rear view year, it all adds up.
- 12:53Speaker 5: And I think putting that pressure, not that evan show
- 12:58Speaker 5: creator does that, but you know, we didn't. We really
- 13:01Speaker 5: didn't want to disappoint the audience. So I think we're
- 13:03Speaker 5: very aware the entire time of like, it's got.
- 13:05Speaker 3: To be good in the end.
- 13:06Speaker 6: It's not an oh my goodness, And it was like
- 13:09Speaker 6: your your episodes eleven and twelve, we talked about this.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I could not get over. I have never seen so
- 13:16Speaker 1: many payoffs. It was insane.
- 13:22Speaker 6: Every every little thing I remember, like watching the episodes,
- 13:26Speaker 6: waiting week by week, sometimes being like, oh, wow, Tucker's
- 13:28Speaker 6: and security, I wonder how they chose that job.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Okay, and then the further you get you're like, oh,
- 13:33Speaker 1: he has to be in security.
- 13:35Speaker 4: This is it was.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Yeah, there's other things without revealing stuff, you know, there's
- 13:43Speaker 2: things that people say throughout that the reason they said
- 13:46Speaker 2: it feels like we're misleading them in previous episodes.
- 13:50Speaker 3: But it actually adds up when you get to eleven twelve.
- 13:53Speaker 5: I also wanted because as you're watching the show, you
- 13:56Speaker 5: can see there are a lot of episodes that sort
- 13:58Speaker 5: of hint at the idea.
- 14:00Speaker 4: It could be anyone. It could be you know, many
- 14:03Speaker 4: different people in Groseplane could be the body, and so
- 14:06Speaker 4: we wanted that to be additive as well.
- 14:08Speaker 2: In every wanted that to lead into who the person
- 14:12Speaker 2: really was you had to go to. We didn't want
- 14:14Speaker 2: just to be kind of a schmuck bait.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Dead end to add up.
- 14:19Speaker 4: So if that conflict hadn't happened, the person who eventually
- 14:23Speaker 4: was killed wouldn't have been killed.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yeah, in the end, we want we wanted all of
- 14:26Speaker 2: them to kind of be the architects of their own demise.
- 14:29Speaker 2: It's like, had Alice not gone on the journey of
- 14:32Speaker 2: trying to figure out who killed her dog.
- 14:34Speaker 3: None of this would happen, and then everything that branched off.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Everyone tried to get what they wanted their lives.
- 14:41Speaker 2: You know Birdie with her son, and Bret with custody,
- 14:44Speaker 2: and you know Alice with her job in New York.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It's they all were so close to all of that.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Had none of this happened.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Right on that note, I'm going to take a very
- 14:56Speaker 1: quick break. That was our break, okay, and we're back.
- 15:01Speaker 3: I even belong to gross Point.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I am talking with the amazing creators of gross Point
- 15:07Speaker 1: Garden Society, Bill Krebbs and Jenna Ban You guys, thank
- 15:12Speaker 1: you so much for being here.
- 15:14Speaker 2: A couple.
- 15:14Speaker 1: You know, I have a very random question for you. So,
- 15:17Speaker 1: there is a storyline in the gross Point Garden Society
- 15:21Speaker 1: where the realtor is you know, sleeping around and all
- 15:25Speaker 1: the gross Point houses. Was this storyline informed by you know,
- 15:31Speaker 1: a well known story that happened in gross Point And
- 15:34Speaker 1: do you know what I'm talking about.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Yes, we've been informed about this many times. It was
- 15:39Speaker 3: not directly related to that at all.
- 15:41Speaker 2: And okay, you know it coincidentally kind of fell into
- 15:47Speaker 2: that category. But we both loved the movie American Beauty
- 15:52Speaker 2: and do you know what we love the idea of
- 15:55Speaker 2: like when Annette Betting is, you know, having sex with
- 15:59Speaker 2: the the realty king or whatever, and so also we
- 16:04Speaker 2: always had that as a storyline going forward.
- 16:07Speaker 5: He actually decided on that storyline and those characters before
- 16:12Speaker 5: we picked the city.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Of the Yeah, it's kind of you know, there's some
- 16:17Speaker 2: coincidences that have happened throughout because we now know in
- 16:20Speaker 2: the headlines that there happened.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Instance, I feel like that's a story that can have happened.
- 16:27Speaker 1: One hundred right. Yeah, I know, absolutely, But it is
- 16:30Speaker 1: funny because you know the the gross point streets are talking.
- 16:37Speaker 3: We love that part of it. We love that part
- 16:39Speaker 3: of it.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, it's absolutely fantastic. So when so where
- 16:43Speaker 1: you are now is basically you were waiting to find
- 16:48Speaker 1: out what happens with the destiny of the show. I
- 16:51Speaker 1: feel it's very promising that you guys are going to
- 16:53Speaker 1: come back. Maybe you're sitting on some information you don't
- 16:55Speaker 1: want to reveal, but I do find that find a
- 17:00Speaker 1: dark comedy in this day and age on a network
- 17:03Speaker 1: show that's done so well is very rare. Do you
- 17:07Speaker 1: feel like the network understands what they have in your show.
- 17:12Speaker 4: We do, and we've been blown away by the support
- 17:17Speaker 4: at the network.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Yeah, they are fully behind the show.
- 17:20Speaker 5: Creative executives got the show from the beginning, supported the
- 17:25Speaker 5: show from the beginning.
- 17:26Speaker 2: So yeah, at the studio and the network level, and
- 17:30Speaker 2: they love the cast, they love the material. You know,
- 17:33Speaker 2: there's just sort of a reality to the network landscape,
- 17:37Speaker 2: especially here at NBC. They have the NBA coming in
- 17:41Speaker 2: twenty twenty five, twenty six, and there's only so many
- 17:45Speaker 2: slots available for an NBC show, and so our best
- 17:50Speaker 2: bet is to get pushed over onto Peacock at this point,
- 17:54Speaker 2: and we think that is where the show should kind
- 17:57Speaker 2: of live anyway, because we've noticed that people just kind
- 18:01Speaker 2: of don't have the patience in the same way that
- 18:03Speaker 2: we all used to before streaming to wait week to
- 18:07Speaker 2: week for these you know, see how things pay off,
- 18:11Speaker 2: you know, in the storyline, and our show in particular
- 18:14Speaker 2: has a lot of detail to it. It's kind of
- 18:17Speaker 2: sophisticated in all the twists and turns and the jumps
- 18:20Speaker 2: in timeline. So we're asking a lot of the audience
- 18:23Speaker 2: to remember a week later, whereas when it just auto
- 18:26Speaker 2: plays the next episode on a streamer, it's fresh in
- 18:30Speaker 2: your head.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think you guys said it in
- 18:32Speaker 5: the beginning. Binging in is sort of the style in
- 18:36Speaker 5: which it's.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Made to live a little bit. So we would be
- 18:39Speaker 4: really excited and happy about.
- 18:41Speaker 5: A move to Pekock, and I think they're still discussing
- 18:44Speaker 5: that and still looking at Peacock numbers.
- 18:46Speaker 4: So everybody should please watch on Peacock.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Just let it run. Yeah, right here.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Playing it on all of their TVs.
- 18:55Speaker 5: My mom called me Saturday and she was like, tell
- 18:58Speaker 5: your father he doesn't need to play the entire season
- 19:01Speaker 5: every day.
- 19:01Speaker 4: I want to watch something else.
- 19:04Speaker 3: I know he does.
- 19:05Speaker 5: He does.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Yeah, the Minnesota loyalty is so strong. In the Midwest loyalty,
- 19:12Speaker 1: I mean that is like my parents. My dad's like, hey,
- 19:14Speaker 1: I've got your podcast on. It's in my pocket. I'm like,
- 19:17Speaker 1: you're at church, like you're you need to turn it off.
- 19:20Speaker 1: It's explicit sometimes you know you gotta support. Yeah, I agree.
- 19:26Speaker 1: The other thing is too. As a recapper, I loved
- 19:29Speaker 1: that it was once a week, you know, because then
- 19:31Speaker 1: you really can get it all in there and you
- 19:33Speaker 1: can really sift over it and you can take notes
- 19:35Speaker 1: and think about it and then kind of go through it.
- 19:38Speaker 1: So I am very torn about, you know, the binging aspect,
- 19:42Speaker 1: but I know that's where everybody is. I totally get it.
- 19:45Speaker 1: But from my perspective, I do really love I loved
- 19:49Speaker 1: that it was it started on NBC. If it goes
- 19:51Speaker 1: to Peacock, that's amazing. I feel like everyone's you know,
- 19:53Speaker 1: over there anyway, and that is absolutely where our a
- 19:57Speaker 1: lot of our people live. You know, the listener of
- 20:00Speaker 1: the Real Housewives who watch that? Are you? Are you, guys, Jenna,
- 20:05Speaker 1: are you a Real Housewives watcher?
- 20:07Speaker 6: I am?
- 20:08Speaker 4: I am, yeah, I mean off and on.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I love.
- 20:12Speaker 5: I'm I'm definitely a vander Pump Rules and Valley watcher.
- 20:16Speaker 5: I'm also a Real Housewives of That really Hill's watcher.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Nice.
- 20:21Speaker 4: So I like dip in and out.
- 20:23Speaker 5: I dabble and to Atlanta because we met Shamia Morton
- 20:28Speaker 5: in Atlanta to our set.
- 20:31Speaker 1: God, okay, tell me all about this. Okay. So Shemiah Morton,
- 20:35Speaker 1: who is actually now she's a full time housewife. She's
- 20:38Speaker 1: holding that peach on Atlanta. We're all watching it right now.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Take me through the day. She smo showed up at
- 20:44Speaker 1: the set.
- 20:45Speaker 4: It was we were shooting the finale and the lovely
- 20:50Speaker 4: people at NBC.
- 20:52Speaker 5: The publicity people set it up because apparently our audience
- 20:55Speaker 5: is crossover.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Real house Housewives of Atlanta. Yeah and yeah, she came.
- 21:02Speaker 5: She shot a bunch of content for Social in Catherine's
- 21:05Speaker 5: house on Catherine's second and the actors all spent time they.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Get over how the sets were, that the stairs led
- 21:13Speaker 3: do nothings like hilarious.
- 21:17Speaker 1: That's what a Real Housewives reunion said, is like nothing
- 21:20Speaker 1: needs to anything, No, but that's hilarious.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Really looked fus, looked nails. She did not disa boyd and.
- 21:31Speaker 5: Our cast is they're real big pants to honest Sopia.
- 21:35Speaker 5: Rob in particular was like, so they all had the best.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Time, and she she was just lovely.
- 21:43Speaker 3: She was awesome.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Was she just singing? Did she like break out into
- 21:46Speaker 1: song because she loves she did?
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 21:49Speaker 1: Great, great, Now we were.
- 21:50Speaker 3: There, but she stayed a very.
- 21:52Speaker 5: Long time and I think she did them and they
- 21:55Speaker 5: all got to hold the peach or the app is
- 21:58Speaker 5: it the app page?
- 21:59Speaker 1: It's the peach in Atlanta? Yeah, now where they.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Held the peach and her lighting was spectacular too, better
- 22:06Speaker 2: than what we had on set.
- 22:07Speaker 3: She had all the ring lights and all with her.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Yeah to stand head master.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yeah, the gaffers are all like, we don't, you don't
- 22:22Speaker 1: need us. We're you know, look, if you want lighting
- 22:26Speaker 1: done right next season, just get ever real housewife. Would
- 22:31Speaker 1: you ever have like a real housewife do a cameo?
- 22:34Speaker 4: Absolutely, we've actually talked about.
- 22:40Speaker 2: It.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 1: By the way, throw us Megan and I throw us
- 22:44Speaker 1: in there. We we'll we'll do Atlanta. We'll do we'll
- 22:47Speaker 1: do Atlanta. We're in We're sag Actra, we are Union baby.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Oh but in Atlanta you don't do that, so we'll
- 22:57Speaker 1: we'll do the you know anyway, I mean.
- 23:00Speaker 6: You do an impression of her?
- 23:04Speaker 4: No, I do not.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I don't do any impressions of any ladies in Atlanta
- 23:09Speaker 1: except for Kim Zulciak Beerman from eons and eons ago,
- 23:14Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, I don't. I don't. I don't do
- 23:16Speaker 1: any one from Atlanta. But I can do at least
- 23:19Speaker 1: a VANDAM for Jenna. Perhaps you've got a little wounded
- 23:24Speaker 1: bird on your guest Paul Alice.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Oh dear, and then a below deck guy.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Oh nice, Oh my god.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Yes, I'm a below deck mad.
- 23:38Speaker 3: I mean you know that's basically you know, my whole wheelhouse.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Okay, literal wheelhouse, literal wheelhouse. So I love Yeah, I
- 23:50Speaker 1: do a Captain Sandy too, you know I love a
- 23:53Speaker 1: leader Bill and uh you and Jenna, God, you guys
- 23:57Speaker 1: are great. You know what, I'm going to give you
- 23:59Speaker 1: three chances. No, I'm going to give you eighteen chances.
- 24:01Speaker 1: All right, you get unlimited chances. All right, this show
- 24:06Speaker 1: is going to go the distance. Yeah, Captain Sandy, Sandy
- 24:12Speaker 1: probably loves your show.
- 24:14Speaker 3: We love you, I mean really well.
- 24:17Speaker 2: We've put We've put a lot of below deck med
- 24:19Speaker 2: references in Good Girls. We had read her character and
- 24:27Speaker 2: Rena Wilson standon Ruby. They were below deck med fans.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Oh and godot it.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Yes.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Melissa Fumaro Bertie was watching THEWS.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you know, and she's eating the chips and.
- 24:42Speaker 1: That's right, she was watching.
- 24:44Speaker 4: She might have been watching Atlanta.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I think she was. I think she asked, what was
- 24:49Speaker 1: that like shooting in Atlanta? You you seem to capture
- 24:51Speaker 1: gross point really well in Atlanta?
- 24:53Speaker 5: How was that?
- 24:55Speaker 3: Well?
- 24:55Speaker 2: Our production designer, he uh is the most thorough person
- 25:00Speaker 2: maybe I've ever met my life Adam Davis, and so
- 25:03Speaker 2: he did a huge deep dive into gross Point and
- 25:06Speaker 2: the architecture going back to the eighteen fifties, and we
- 25:10Speaker 2: happened to find a place in Atlanta called Druid Hills
- 25:14Speaker 2: that is the exact same architecture.
- 25:16Speaker 3: All the homes, the you know, the Tutors and the
- 25:19Speaker 3: French manors and all the.
- 25:22Speaker 2: You know, even some of the colonials that are there
- 25:24Speaker 2: all just look exactly like Gross Point. And then the
- 25:28Speaker 2: big issue was how do we get the village and
- 25:31Speaker 2: the hill, you know that kind of look. And we
- 25:35Speaker 2: went to this place called Norcross in Doraville or Georgia,
- 25:39Speaker 2: you know, I was called Norcross is the town, but yeah,
- 25:42Speaker 2: it it looked very similar to you know, the village,
- 25:47Speaker 2: and so we were always hunting for, you know, the
- 25:52Speaker 2: right location to have it capture you know, sort of
- 25:56Speaker 2: the field.
- 25:57Speaker 3: You know.
- 25:57Speaker 2: The one thing we we didn't get that least we
- 26:00Speaker 2: kind of got, was sort of the country club vibe,
- 26:03Speaker 2: you know, that just wasn't as present and it didn't.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Allow for our budget.
- 26:07Speaker 4: I mean the history of the country.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Yeah, like like the kind of the money like country
- 26:13Speaker 2: club at Detroit, like we fought and all that, you know,
- 26:17Speaker 2: we didn't.
- 26:18Speaker 3: We didn't kind of delve into that air. We talked
- 26:20Speaker 3: about it a.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Lot and so, but shooting in Atlanta was amazing.
- 26:24Speaker 5: The crews are so good and experienced and professional, and
- 26:30Speaker 5: the food.
- 26:30Speaker 4: Seems really good in Atlanta.
- 26:32Speaker 1: That a nice best restaurants.
- 26:35Speaker 2: They it took a like a sixteen mile loop around
- 26:40Speaker 2: the city that was railroad track and they turned it
- 26:42Speaker 2: into sort of a high line of restaurants and bars.
- 26:47Speaker 3: We became. We got the first season of Good Girls
- 26:51Speaker 3: in Atlanta, and it was it was good, but it
- 26:53Speaker 3: wasn't It wasn't what it is today at all.
- 26:56Speaker 2: It's exponentially I would say it might be the best
- 27:00Speaker 2: city the United States.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Wow.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I'm a huge Atlanta f.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Atlanta. Yes, that's what Lanta.
- 27:11Speaker 6: I remember. And I don't know if you ever even
- 27:13Speaker 6: thought about shooting anything and in Gross point but I remember, Amy,
- 27:17Speaker 6: I don't know if you remember this when Gross point
- 27:19Speaker 6: blank came out the movie and I think the only
- 27:23Speaker 6: thing they.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Got the opening credits, the opening credits? Did lake Shore?
- 27:29Speaker 3: That was it?
- 27:30Speaker 1: That's yeah, yeah, that's so funny.
- 27:35Speaker 4: It just costs prohibited. It's used to have a good
- 27:39Speaker 4: tax credit you know it expired.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and so you just have to go wherever the
- 27:46Speaker 3: best tax credit is is where you're owned up.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Absolutely, and and and it's such a bummer that that
- 27:51Speaker 1: ended it. They had such a burgeoning film scene happened
- 27:56Speaker 1: in Michigan for many years, and all of the acts
- 28:00Speaker 1: and comedians that I knew back you know, back there.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I had moved to Chicago and then LA they were
- 28:05Speaker 1: getting so much work. I mean, it was just amazing.
- 28:08Speaker 2: And I mean Bill took over all those sound stages
- 28:11Speaker 2: from the advertising you know, agencies and stuff that made
- 28:14Speaker 2: them into such great, you know, production facilities, and now
- 28:20Speaker 2: muses them. I don't think in that way, you know.
- 28:22Speaker 1: I know, it's such a bummer. So are you guys,
- 28:25Speaker 1: are you working on any other I should say this
- 28:28Speaker 1: number one? Are you We're already writing season two? And
- 28:34Speaker 1: are you working on other projects in the Meantime'm sure
- 28:37Speaker 1: you're juggling a ton of things. But what are you
- 28:39Speaker 1: What are you up to? And you guys are reporting
- 28:41Speaker 1: live from the NBC universe a lot right, Yeah too
- 28:46Speaker 1: from NBC.
- 28:47Speaker 4: Definitely always working on other projects.
- 28:49Speaker 5: We had a project we were working on together before
- 28:52Speaker 5: the show got picked up that we got picked up
- 28:55Speaker 5: that we sort of put aside to concentrate on the show,
- 28:58Speaker 5: so we're picking that back up. We have done a
- 29:01Speaker 5: little preliminary work in two in terms of telling our
- 29:05Speaker 5: partners at the network and studio creatively where the show
- 29:08Speaker 5: is going to go, what's going.
- 29:09Speaker 2: To happen, And we always sort of had a season
- 29:12Speaker 2: two in mind when we were doing season one. As
- 29:14Speaker 2: you know by how season one ends, we have that
- 29:20Speaker 2: kind of mapped out right, so that we're.
- 29:23Speaker 4: Not actively fighting yet until the decision.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Sure I it that is not to be. Yeah, I'm
- 29:31Speaker 1: so excited. Megan and I have been loving this. The
- 29:34Speaker 1: only bummer thing that happened was we recorded an episode
- 29:39Speaker 1: that wasn't recorded, so that, you know, unfortunately our listeners
- 29:44Speaker 1: missed out on like that, but we made up for
- 29:46Speaker 1: it the following week. We just didn't get into as
- 29:48Speaker 1: many details the following week. But that tech Shember like,
- 29:52Speaker 1: I thought that was the one. I brought this today
- 29:54Speaker 1: my poabic.
- 29:58Speaker 3: There is great discussion on set. How you say that,
- 30:04Speaker 3: you know, we had to go through our script coordinator. Everyone.
- 30:07Speaker 3: I mean people were rehearsing it.
- 30:08Speaker 1: They did not know they were what were they saying?
- 30:13Speaker 4: Like they cannot see.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Yeah, and so that that word really through some people,
- 30:23Speaker 3: as did I think. I think we've got parchable. Yeah,
- 30:28Speaker 3: And then we took you out because I'd like, forget it.
- 30:30Speaker 3: We're never going to get that. Which one?
- 30:32Speaker 1: Which one?
- 30:33Speaker 4: Cad you?
- 30:34Speaker 1: Oh, cad you? Oh my god, this is amazing. Love
- 30:38Speaker 1: this cubic tile. I'm dead. I'm dead.
- 30:42Speaker 3: I love that you. I love that you have that.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Also, we have an unofficial sponsor. This is twall dot
- 30:49Speaker 1: com t w a L. Actually Twall dot Shop t
- 30:52Speaker 1: w a L dot shop. They have all of the
- 30:55Speaker 1: the gross Point landmarks. They sent us this stuff and
- 30:58Speaker 1: it's like, I no, is that a site too right now?
- 31:04Speaker 3: Or is that a specialty gift for you?
- 31:06Speaker 1: They have a shop in gross Point. They send us
- 31:09Speaker 1: some stuff. Yes, Maggie, Maggie, she's a friend of mine.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I'm sure she would love to send you guys some
- 31:15Speaker 1: stuff that they send us. These bottles, it's very gross
- 31:17Speaker 1: Point acrylic like praise. So yeah, hats, fish fly hats.
- 31:24Speaker 2: You know what's funny is that's the one thing that
- 31:26Speaker 2: we didn't put in that I that was like iconic
- 31:29Speaker 2: for my childhood is the fish flies.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Oh my god, how could you do that? Like just
- 31:33Speaker 1: windshield wipers, just like I remember my.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Stepmom used to make me go to the ATM at
- 31:40Speaker 2: night to get cash out for because they just be
- 31:42Speaker 2: swarmed and.
- 31:45Speaker 3: She couldn't do it.
- 31:46Speaker 1: It's such a distinct. You nailed that.
- 31:48Speaker 6: I remember my mom going to I think it was
- 31:50Speaker 6: Comerica Bank on Jefferson right by Caju and she would
- 31:54Speaker 6: do the same thing, like can you go there and
- 31:56Speaker 6: get out?
- 31:57Speaker 3: And I'm like, that's the exact one.
- 32:00Speaker 5: To go to.
- 32:01Speaker 1: My god, shut well, I mean, you can let this simmer.
- 32:06Speaker 1: But I'm thinking the dead body might need to be
- 32:11Speaker 1: with some fish flies at some point. I don't know what.
- 32:16Speaker 4: Just a good idea.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Listen, Megan, Megan's a writer, I'm kind of but you know,
- 32:27Speaker 1: we have some ideas. Or is there anything else you
- 32:30Speaker 1: want to share about the show, or like tell these
- 32:32Speaker 1: amazing Darling listeners anything else about your experience or.
- 32:40Speaker 3: People who haven't started it.
- 32:42Speaker 2: You know, it really is a fun ride, Like if
- 32:45Speaker 2: you can, you know, get through the first couple episodes
- 32:48Speaker 2: that really lay out sort of the groundwork for the
- 32:51Speaker 2: entire season, that you're just not going to be disappointed.
- 32:56Speaker 4: It's just a fun, fun ride, I think is the
- 33:00Speaker 4: best way to describe sexy. Sexy, it's twisty.
- 33:06Speaker 5: My parents were very surprised by the reveal, some of
- 33:10Speaker 5: the reveals.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Very shocked.
- 33:13Speaker 1: We need to get Jenna's parents on here.
- 33:17Speaker 4: Yeah, they are there.
- 33:23Speaker 3: They always.
- 33:24Speaker 4: My mom was like, I just I mean, Good Girls
- 33:26Speaker 4: was my favorite. I just can't go over it.
- 33:28Speaker 5: And now she's like, this is amazing, oil to the
- 33:33Speaker 5: last show until she gets into the next.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Yes.
- 33:36Speaker 1: And and also to your point about your parents liking
- 33:39Speaker 1: it and my parents and your mom, Megan like, Bill,
- 33:43Speaker 1: obviously yours not to be excluded. Bill, You're not excluded.
- 33:47Speaker 1: But it just it really spans like your demographic is
- 33:52Speaker 1: kind of like every the every person, because I felt
- 33:57Speaker 1: like there are tons of there's people on TikTok who
- 33:59Speaker 1: are just you know, these are influencers that are talking
- 34:02Speaker 1: about your show that are you know, in their twenties.
- 34:04Speaker 1: And then you've got our parents being like, oh my heavens,
- 34:08Speaker 1: oh my word, I can't get enough, you know, I mean,
- 34:11Speaker 1: it's it is really like one of those shows.
- 34:13Speaker 6: So again, yeah, because a mystery, it's a mystery, and
- 34:18Speaker 6: it's woven so well, and it's a mystery, and we
- 34:20Speaker 6: spent so much time on the podcast trying to figure
- 34:22Speaker 6: it out, and I feel like we were wrong every step,
- 34:24Speaker 6: every stuff.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Everything really good.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys were really good about you.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Know, there's well there there is an element that I
- 34:35Speaker 2: guess you can't talk about. I was gonna talk about Peach,
- 34:37Speaker 2: but we can't. Yeah, I kind of can't. I just
- 34:42Speaker 2: realized what I mentioned.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Yeah, hard, Yeah, we don't.
- 34:46Speaker 3: I mean you were always spot on.
- 34:48Speaker 2: With with your you know analysis, and you caught all
- 34:52Speaker 2: the little easter eggs and things in the you know,
- 34:56Speaker 2: were impressed.
- 34:57Speaker 4: We were really impressed.
- 34:58Speaker 1: We love I mean, get your asked down to the
- 35:01Speaker 1: mc avenue Garden store, like I just everything about it.
- 35:05Speaker 1: It's so great. Jenna Bands, Bill Krabs. I cannot thank
- 35:10Speaker 1: you enough, like truly thank you for supporting our podcast.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Thank you for being like just supportive of the arts
- 35:17Speaker 1: and also wanting to share your story and your amazing show.
- 35:20Speaker 1: We're humbled by you being on the show. Megan and
- 35:23Speaker 1: I absolutely love it, and hopefully next season you come
- 35:27Speaker 1: back and we'll promote your next season. Okay, we would love.
- 35:31Speaker 3: That, love it.
- 35:32Speaker 5: You're so grateful to be on the podcast too. We're
- 35:35Speaker 5: grateful that you've watched all season and you read. If
- 35:39Speaker 5: we get a season two, we can help you recap.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Or we can ask you so awesome. Yes, my god,
- 35:44Speaker 1: some questions you had.
- 35:46Speaker 2: I'm also I'm also kind of starstruck myself because I
- 35:49Speaker 2: think you mentioned in a podcast that you were you
- 35:52Speaker 2: did voices for Dick Purton.
