- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. Any chance, Edrin James joins Jeff
- 0:20Speaker 1: Saturday on the coaching staff in Indianapolis. I don't know
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask the Hall of Famer when he joins
- 0:26Speaker 1: us a little bit later in this hour of NFL
- 0:29Speaker 1: Now on NFL Network from our newsroom in Los Angeles,
- 0:32Speaker 1: my name is ANDREWS. Ceciliano will also talk t NF
- 0:35Speaker 1: the Packers the Titans coming up tomorrow night to open
- 0:38Speaker 1: up week number eleven. We begin this hour in Cleveland
- 0:42Speaker 1: with a quarterback we will not see on the field
- 0:45Speaker 1: until week thirteen. But today is the first day that
- 0:50Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson is allowed to practice in the regular season
- 0:55Speaker 1: with the Cleveland Browns. There are two big stories today
- 0:58Speaker 1: in Cleveland. Number one, the big snowstorm coming to Buffalo.
- 1:03Speaker 1: They are in Orchard Park on Sunday. And number two,
- 1:07Speaker 1: Ian rappaport ore ANFL Network insider, the fact that DeShawn
- 1:10Speaker 1: Watson is on the practice field with two more games
- 1:15Speaker 1: scheduled here for Jacoby percent that's right December four against
- 1:20Speaker 1: his old team in the Houston Texans, is when we're
- 1:23Speaker 1: going to see Deshaun Watson on the field for real
- 1:25Speaker 1: in a game. But the fact that he's able to
- 1:27Speaker 1: practice today is not something that's going to affect the
- 1:30Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns right now, but it is going to affect
- 1:33Speaker 1: him and it is significant because everything they've tried to
- 1:35Speaker 1: do this season was just maintain some sort of uh,
- 1:40Speaker 1: be in the mix essentially in the race. Just try
- 1:43Speaker 1: to get to where you're winning, touching grasp of the playoffs.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Make sure you're staying connected because Deshaun Watson is going
- 1:49Speaker 1: to come back and when he plays, and it's been
- 1:51Speaker 1: a little while, he's been one of the best quarterbacks
- 1:53Speaker 1: in the NFL, no doubt about it. The fact that
- 1:55Speaker 1: he has been suspended or is being suspended eleven games
- 1:58Speaker 1: for sexual misconduct is also part of his story. But
- 2:02Speaker 1: the football part of it is he is going to
- 2:04Speaker 1: help the Cleveland brown is a lot a significant step
- 2:07Speaker 1: today being back at practice. Previously he was only allowed
- 2:10Speaker 1: to be in meetings. Um, so this is this is
- 2:12Speaker 1: meaningful now and the Cleveland Browns, uh, if they can
- 2:15Speaker 1: view the playoffs. It is a long way down the
- 2:17Speaker 1: road here. After losing this past week in Miami and
- 2:20Speaker 1: losing badly, they're now three and six, they get the
- 2:23Speaker 1: bills potentially in the snow. More in that a little
- 2:25Speaker 1: bit later coming up on Sunday. Meantime, we're just talking
- 2:28Speaker 1: in with Bucky about Kyler Murray and the hamstring and
- 2:31Speaker 1: Colt McCoy and how the offense operated last week. I
- 2:33Speaker 1: can say this with certainty, regardless of the quarterback, if
- 2:36Speaker 1: they were to get Hollywood Brown back, that would be
- 2:40Speaker 1: a plus. We haven't seen him since week six. What's
- 2:42Speaker 1: his story? It's a plus. Hollywood Broun is expected back.
- 2:47Speaker 1: We actually may see him on Monday night for the
- 2:49Speaker 1: Arizona Cardos. This is one engine win. As soon as
- 2:52Speaker 1: he got injured and suffered that foot injury, it seemed
- 2:55Speaker 1: to be significant. They just wanted to get the m r.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I wanted to do some extra rays, cat skin, make
- 3:00Speaker 1: sure that everything was okay. Uh, And it was more
- 3:03Speaker 1: okay than they ever realized and end of being out
- 3:05Speaker 1: for the season. It was a non operative tiny fracture
- 3:09Speaker 1: essentially in his foot something. The belief was at the
- 3:12Speaker 1: time that he'll be able to come back after six weeks.
- 3:14Speaker 1: We are around that wind down now, maybe a little sooner.
- 3:17Speaker 1: So Yeah, the fact that he has his practice window open.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I would say significant. He's not the only receiver. D J.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Chark with the Detroit lines also had his practice window
- 3:26Speaker 1: opening for the Detroit lines and this was so when
- 3:29Speaker 1: they signed Fred and to expect big things from him
- 3:32Speaker 1: being back on the practice field is major. Just doesn't
- 3:34Speaker 1: sound like you're gonna see Jamison Williams. He really really
- 3:37Speaker 1: talented rookie they traded all the way up to get
- 3:39Speaker 1: just yet, remember he is coming back from an a
- 3:41Speaker 1: c L injury. They think you're gonna see him this season,
- 3:44Speaker 1: but it sounds like after Thanksgiving is a better target. Okay,
- 3:47Speaker 1: A lot of teams here are trying to a stock
- 3:49Speaker 1: up on the d line as they get ready for
- 3:52Speaker 1: the postseason. The Chargers, I mean have fifteen injuries. They
- 3:55Speaker 1: need a lot of bodies here at the Eagles after
- 3:56Speaker 1: watching the run defense the last couple of weeks, could
- 3:59Speaker 1: also use somebody's Linvall Joseph, a former Charger. Here's the connection,
- 4:05Speaker 1: heading to Philly. Heading to Philly, he has officially agreed
- 4:10Speaker 1: to terms. Linval Joseph, the former pro bowler who despite
- 4:14Speaker 1: being thirty four something years old, he still can do it.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I mean, these guys who can just plug the middle,
- 4:19Speaker 1: stop the run. Just be really tough, rugged dudes on
- 4:22Speaker 1: either side of the line. These guys could play forever.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Lindbell Joseph is one of those guys that can play forever.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Expect big things from him in Philadelphia. And you know,
- 4:31Speaker 1: if you ever wonder about Jordan Davis, the really talented
- 4:34Speaker 1: rookie from Georgia, how valuable he is. He's proved more
- 4:37Speaker 1: valuable than we anticipated since he went out with a
- 4:39Speaker 1: high ankle spray. So Linval Joseph comes in to help
- 4:42Speaker 1: fill that void. Andrew forty seven rushing attempts by the
- 4:46Speaker 1: Commanders Monday night in their victory first loss of the
- 4:50Speaker 1: year for the Commander or for the Eagles rather in Philadelphia,
- 4:53Speaker 1: I in Rappaport, Thanks you, sir, our NFL network in Cider.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Let's get ahead to the late window on Sunday. What
- 5:00Speaker 1: a game we have in Minnesota. It's the Cowboys following
- 5:04Speaker 1: a loss at Lambeo against the Vikings following a huge
- 5:09Speaker 1: win in Buffalo's great challenge this week again another really
- 5:14Speaker 1: good football team. Um. You know, when you watch the tape,
- 5:18Speaker 1: you see a team that's athletic, will coach, play fast,
- 5:22Speaker 1: You play hard, and they've given us a great challenge
- 5:25Speaker 1: the last several times we've played them. So, um, you know,
- 5:28Speaker 1: I have several guys in that team on that defense
- 5:30Speaker 1: we've played for a lot of years and I think
- 5:32Speaker 1: very highly of them, and um, so we gotta be
- 5:36Speaker 1: ready to go. I gotta a great week of prep
- 5:37Speaker 1: starting today. All right, let's get the Cowboys side of
- 5:40Speaker 1: this change. Slater live with us at the Star of
- 5:42Speaker 1: the Ford Center and Frisco Bucky Brooks with us as well.
- 5:45Speaker 1: There are a lot of things that I'm sure the
- 5:47Speaker 1: Cowboys are trying to fix, Jane from Sunday Run defense
- 5:50Speaker 1: being one of them. Also on the offensive side, seemingly
- 5:53Speaker 1: miscommunication here between Dak Prescott and some of the guys
- 5:57Speaker 1: who are charged with catching passes. What are they saying
- 5:59Speaker 1: about that? Yeah, it's been roaring its head at different
- 6:03Speaker 1: times this year, Andrew, and it wasn't a b are
- 6:05Speaker 1: on the road against the Packers to hear Mike McCarthy
- 6:09Speaker 1: explained it after the game. The issue for Dak Prescott
- 6:12Speaker 1: and some of his receivers was route adjustment in timing.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And let me walk you through one of those plays.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Uh fans will remember this one they basically thought, or
- 6:20Speaker 1: according to Dak Prescott, he thought that Seede Lamb was
- 6:23Speaker 1: going to cross face the safety there. He didn't and said, yet,
- 6:25Speaker 1: what Rudy Ford right there who grabbed the interception. Incidentally,
- 6:29Speaker 1: that happened against the Bears, almost an identical play, so
- 6:33Speaker 1: they didn't quite get it figured out. What was more
- 6:35Speaker 1: frustrating is that was a back to back interception. They
- 6:38Speaker 1: also had a misque from Dalton Schultz, and what you
- 6:40Speaker 1: essentially saw was the Packers were able to capitalize on
- 6:44Speaker 1: both situations. That's not something that you want to see
- 6:46Speaker 1: in a game. It's something that happened against the Packers.
- 6:49Speaker 1: And keep in mind this was a Packers team that
- 6:51Speaker 1: was hurt defensively, Bucky. They didn't even have Rashawn Gary
- 6:54Speaker 1: in this game. That's what was really really frustrating in
- 6:56Speaker 1: this one. So we'll see if they can get on
- 6:58Speaker 1: the same page. I don't know if some of this
- 7:00Speaker 1: is playing into and I am curious your thoughts. You know,
- 7:02Speaker 1: Dak Prescott obviously miss a number of games because of
- 7:05Speaker 1: the fracture it was thumb, but he also didn't get
- 7:07Speaker 1: a lot of time in the preseason with his wide
- 7:09Speaker 1: receiver so that time a get middlely wouldn't be a
- 7:12Speaker 1: little bit off Cooper Rush of course, and did have
- 7:14Speaker 1: the timing. And I'm not sitting here saying Cooper rushes
- 7:16Speaker 1: any better, but it does seem like with whatever they
- 7:18Speaker 1: were doing that offense with Cooper Rush was making a
- 7:21Speaker 1: little bit more sense than it has at time since
- 7:23Speaker 1: Dac has been back. Yeah, Jane, I think what you
- 7:28Speaker 1: speak to is sometimes coaches can't help themselves. You get
- 7:31Speaker 1: a better player quarterback, you want to do too much
- 7:34Speaker 1: rather than sticking to the game plan in the blueprint
- 7:36Speaker 1: that was verily established for them running the football, being
- 7:39Speaker 1: a little more ball control over line on the defense
- 7:41Speaker 1: to set them up, they have allowed themselves to open
- 7:44Speaker 1: up the playbook and we've seen some turnovers result. I
- 7:47Speaker 1: think the big thing though, when you're the coaching staff,
- 7:49Speaker 1: you've got to talk about the run defense because that
- 7:52Speaker 1: is the problem area. That is the area that every
- 7:54Speaker 1: team is going to exploit. And we can talk about
- 7:57Speaker 1: He is gaff integrity, he is make sure everyone fits
- 8:00Speaker 1: to the lane. But at the end of the day,
- 8:01Speaker 1: when it comes to stop in the run, it's about
- 8:03Speaker 1: toughness and physicale Yes, you got to be in the
- 8:06Speaker 1: gap and do those things. But if the Cowboys are
- 8:09Speaker 1: going to be a physical team, they have to be
- 8:11Speaker 1: able to stop the run because no opponent is going
- 8:13Speaker 1: to respect him as a physical, hard nosed team. If
- 8:17Speaker 1: they're not able to stop the run right now, they've
- 8:19Speaker 1: been more for the nest than physical and that has
- 8:22Speaker 1: to change if this team is going to live up
- 8:24Speaker 1: to see some of these aspirations that they've chatted about
- 8:27Speaker 1: in terms of being a title content. Alright, talking about
- 8:29Speaker 1: stopping the run is fun, but Jane, you know what
- 8:33Speaker 1: moves the needle there in Dallas is talking about whether
- 8:37Speaker 1: or not they're going to get Odell Beckham Jr. Go ahead,
- 8:40Speaker 1: take it away. Your daily dose of O b J
- 8:43Speaker 1: news is is what what are they saying? I always
- 8:46Speaker 1: feel like I'm on some sort of watch around here,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you know, so right now it's O b J watch.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And as I've described to fans, this is one of
- 8:53Speaker 1: the more real free agent conversations that they've had around
- 8:57Speaker 1: here that actually does make sense and actually could see
- 9:01Speaker 1: this thing happening. But it's not helping that the Cowboys
- 9:05Speaker 1: are finding themselves in a tighter playoff picture. In other words,
- 9:08Speaker 1: we saw Washington did did the Eagles, And I described
- 9:11Speaker 1: last week the reason why there was a hold up
- 9:13Speaker 1: for O. B J. How to do with the fact
- 9:15Speaker 1: that he's waiting to see who's gonna be in the
- 9:17Speaker 1: playoff picture when he comes back from this knee injury.
- 9:19Speaker 1: He wants to make sure that he's going to a
- 9:21Speaker 1: team that has a chance to win it all. And
- 9:23Speaker 1: if you're looking at the standings, things are getting a
- 9:25Speaker 1: little money. But yes, even though Seedee Lamb, according to
- 9:28Speaker 1: Jerry Jones this week, I want to fight through the
- 9:30Speaker 1: fan having one of his best games since becoming a
- 9:33Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboy against the Green Bay Packers, he absolutely still
- 9:36Speaker 1: would love to see O. B J here calling a
- 9:39Speaker 1: talent like Odell Beckham just an additive something that can
- 9:42Speaker 1: help them take the top off. But again, if you're
- 9:46Speaker 1: already dealing with some of the misques from Dak Prescott
- 9:49Speaker 1: to his wide receivers, does a veteran like O. B
- 9:52Speaker 1: J help when he didn't have a training camp And
- 9:54Speaker 1: we'll see when he gets in here, buck, Yeah, I
- 9:56Speaker 1: guess that's my question to you. Well, look, I don't
- 10:00Speaker 1: know if he else, but I's only know v Box
- 10:02Speaker 1: Office because Jerry Jones understands what Odell Beckham Junior brings.
- 10:06Speaker 1: He's a superstar, and I mean really a rock star.
- 10:08Speaker 1: If you've been around him, you know what that is.
- 10:10Speaker 1: You know the magnetism that he brings to the field,
- 10:12Speaker 1: and so Jerry Jones won't some of that. Oh by
- 10:15Speaker 1: the way, he also is a good receiver. So to
- 10:17Speaker 1: think about oh b j having the star on the
- 10:19Speaker 1: side of his helmet, you're talking about a lot of attention.
- 10:22Speaker 1: You're talking about a lot of prime time TV games
- 10:24Speaker 1: that everyone wants to see. That's part of it. But
- 10:27Speaker 1: really he absolutely can help the Cowboys because Michael Gallup
- 10:30Speaker 1: is still coming back from their knee injury, and if
- 10:33Speaker 1: you ask me, I think he's more of a wide
- 10:34Speaker 1: receiver too. Three, With Odell Beckham Jr. On the field,
- 10:38Speaker 1: you now have a proven number two to go with
- 10:41Speaker 1: Ceedee Lamb. You open up the offense and that creates
- 10:44Speaker 1: more running room for Tony Poll and Ezekiel Elliott because
- 10:47Speaker 1: at the end of the day, the Cowboys are at
- 10:49Speaker 1: their best when they're running the football and then throwing
- 10:51Speaker 1: as a compliment. We never talked about the Cowboys on
- 10:54Speaker 1: this show. I promise you we'll talk. We'll talk about
- 10:57Speaker 1: the Cowboys. If they get Odell Beckham Jr. Every day,
- 11:03Speaker 1: Thank you, Jane Chops Rtie NFL, No, NFL that work.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Let's talk about the Colts. Let's talk with that guy.
- 11:11Speaker 1: He's getting the football life treatment. Coming up on Friday.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Eder and James gold jacket and all alight were black
- 11:19Speaker 1: sweatshirt and all waiting in the wings coming on the
- 11:22Speaker 1: next I was missing. Joe's doing my life. So I
- 11:30Speaker 1: use that to my advantage. They're gonna know that was here.
- 11:33Speaker 1: He is the most complete back I've ever been around.
- 11:36Speaker 1: He was the best teammate I ever had ed. And James,
- 11:39Speaker 1: Mr gluegt holds the whole thing to go everybody in Arizona.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Don't go to Arizona. But it gave me another challenge.
- 11:45Speaker 1: His value to what we needed was so important my career.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Sting gold teeth hand with this gold jacket. One of
- 11:58Speaker 1: my favorite speeches in Canton, gold teeth, gold Jacket actually
- 12:02Speaker 1: the name of his book as we all talked about
- 12:04Speaker 1: that book come up in the second but Hall of Fame,
- 12:06Speaker 1: regrin James. Good to have you. Let's talk about You're
- 12:09Speaker 1: a football life coming up on NFL Network on Friday.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I don't know if you've seen it yet, but like,
- 12:16Speaker 1: what are you most proud about your journey that that
- 12:21Speaker 1: we're gonna learn on Friday? What are you most proud
- 12:23Speaker 1: about your football life? I just think it's just being
- 12:27Speaker 1: yourself and keeping the main thing the main thing. You know,
- 12:30Speaker 1: a football player, and I came in and played football
- 12:32Speaker 1: and then I didn't let other things distract me or
- 12:34Speaker 1: get me away from the main thing. So that's that's
- 12:37Speaker 1: the beauty of you can be yourself and you still
- 12:39Speaker 1: can make it to the highest of the high and
- 12:41Speaker 1: becoming mortal and can't Ohio. I mean, there's so many
- 12:44Speaker 1: great anecdotes from growing up in Florida, from going to
- 12:47Speaker 1: Miami to overcoming injury and getting to Indie. One of
- 12:51Speaker 1: my favorite is the fact that Jim Mercy has taken
- 12:54Speaker 1: a lot of criticism in the last week, the fact
- 12:56Speaker 1: that he gave you a Super Bowl ring. You weren't
- 12:59Speaker 1: on that team. You've already moved on to Arizona, but
- 13:01Speaker 1: you've been part of six playoff teams if my count
- 13:04Speaker 1: is right before that in Indianapolis with the horseshoe on
- 13:07Speaker 1: the side of your helmet. Yet fifteen hundred Yards the
- 13:09Speaker 1: year before, Edrian, what did that ring mean to you?
- 13:14Speaker 1: That means a lot. You know, it's like real recognized.
- 13:16Speaker 1: A lot of times. Man people you know they blow
- 13:19Speaker 1: things off, but the real people, they know the impact
- 13:22Speaker 1: you've had, and they know the relationship that you have
- 13:24Speaker 1: with with an organization and they don't. You know, it
- 13:28Speaker 1: doesn't goes out noticed. You know, a lot of times
- 13:30Speaker 1: you have a lot of players that a lot of
- 13:32Speaker 1: players that have actually helped organizations and they just kind
- 13:35Speaker 1: of get pushed to the waist side. But you know,
- 13:38Speaker 1: Mr Earths to day, it made sure that you know
- 13:41Speaker 1: that he knew I was part of that team and
- 13:42Speaker 1: if it wasn't from the business side of things, and
- 13:45Speaker 1: I would have been on that team. Absolutely. You were
- 13:48Speaker 1: in Arizona, we saw our friend Kurt Warner is going
- 13:50Speaker 1: to join us shortly talking about what you meant to
- 13:52Speaker 1: that team as well. But you were in Vegas this
- 13:55Speaker 1: past Sunday to be with the Colts and to be
- 13:58Speaker 1: with your guy Chief Saturday, to be there for his
- 14:01Speaker 1: first win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Let's throw that
- 14:05Speaker 1: tweet up on the screen because I know you support
- 14:08Speaker 1: your guy and you pointed out that We've got a
- 14:11Speaker 1: bunch of presidents that had never been elected to public
- 14:13Speaker 1: office before they became president. So why can't Jeff Saturday
- 14:17Speaker 1: coach in NFL Team Edge? After watching the way they performed.
- 14:21Speaker 1: What do you say to people that said Jeff Saturday
- 14:26Speaker 1: should have turned down that job because he didn't have
- 14:30Speaker 1: any experience. Why, he had a lot of experiences. Started
- 14:35Speaker 1: playing the game eight years old. You know, he started
- 14:37Speaker 1: playing for for a long time. He was successful. And
- 14:40Speaker 1: if you listen to Jeff speaking, you hear the quotes
- 14:44Speaker 1: and the comments. I started hearing a lot of our
- 14:46Speaker 1: offensive coordinate. I started hearing a lot of Tony Dungeons,
- 14:49Speaker 1: start seeing a lot of those great coaches that he
- 14:51Speaker 1: had been around all his life. So it starts coming
- 14:54Speaker 1: out of you, and and they needed somebody like Saturday
- 14:57Speaker 1: kind of pull the guys together. They have two former
- 14:59Speaker 1: coaches on the staff, so it's not like they're out
- 15:01Speaker 1: there without people that doesn't have experience. They have an
- 15:04Speaker 1: owner that's been a honest league forever, and they have
- 15:07Speaker 1: two former coaches on the staff and sadly knows the game.
- 15:11Speaker 1: If you know the game, you know the game. And
- 15:12Speaker 1: a lot of times we like to complicate football, but
- 15:15Speaker 1: it's not as complicated as a lot of people like
- 15:17Speaker 1: to make it. We saw I got Reggie Wayne in
- 15:20Speaker 1: that photo as well. I don't know if you heard this,
- 15:22Speaker 1: but Jeff Saturday was asked today about an hour ago
- 15:25Speaker 1: Adren on the podium about maybe adding you to the staff.
- 15:29Speaker 1: He didn't really answer the question, you're laughing. Is that
- 15:32Speaker 1: something you would ever do. I'd rather roll with the
- 15:36Speaker 1: big man. I'd rather rolle with the big in the
- 15:39Speaker 1: sweet So that's a no. He hasn't asked you. I
- 15:44Speaker 1: can't say. I never say know that anything. You know,
- 15:46Speaker 1: it may be something that it might be a position
- 15:49Speaker 1: that fits is lifestyle. You know my lifestyle is it's
- 15:53Speaker 1: a little bit different. I can't be I can't just
- 15:56Speaker 1: be at one place at all at all at all times. Okay,
- 16:00Speaker 1: so it's not a no that lifestyle right now, Edren. Also,
- 16:05Speaker 1: it includes being a football dad and a basketball dad.
- 16:08Speaker 1: How rewarding is this to see one son playing football
- 16:12Speaker 1: at Howard and another son committing to play basketball at Cincinnati.
- 16:17Speaker 1: That's that's what it's all about, you know. It's like
- 16:19Speaker 1: I committed my life to my children. So that's one
- 16:22Speaker 1: of the things that's super important to me. So but
- 16:24Speaker 1: before I do anything, I have to make sure I
- 16:27Speaker 1: have all access to get to always be around them,
- 16:31Speaker 1: to always have access to see them and actually help
- 16:34Speaker 1: guide them. I mean, that was that was very important
- 16:36Speaker 1: to me coming up the way I came up. You know,
- 16:38Speaker 1: I always wanted to be that dad. As I'm there,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I have you have to have omni president, I have
- 16:43Speaker 1: to be everywhere. So for me, you know, being able
- 16:46Speaker 1: to watch them play football and play basketball, it's a
- 16:48Speaker 1: beautiful thing. And the organization that they're with they're great.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Howard University one of the one of the best ABCU.
- 16:55Speaker 1: They've been great. You know, They've They've welcomed us with
- 16:58Speaker 1: open arms. They've give me a lot of access, so
- 17:00Speaker 1: I get a chance to um actually be involved with
- 17:03Speaker 1: my with my son, and with Cincinnati. You know, Cincinnati
- 17:06Speaker 1: they made sure everything that was concerned. They assured that
- 17:12Speaker 1: that everything's gonna be great. So we're gonna enjoy coming
- 17:14Speaker 1: back to the Midwest. Looking forward to seeing both of
- 17:17Speaker 1: them succeed on the field and on the court as well.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I know your family certainly gets to mention in your book.
- 17:22Speaker 1: From Gold Teeth to Gold Jacket Edge, you tell me
- 17:25Speaker 1: about that book. Oh, it's a great book, man. So
- 17:29Speaker 1: it's the American story, you know, it's where you come
- 17:31Speaker 1: from and where you end up, and it's all. It
- 17:34Speaker 1: gives a lot of insight, a lot of input on
- 17:37Speaker 1: what it's like to actually walk that walking on in
- 17:40Speaker 1: that book. A lot of people can see themselves in
- 17:42Speaker 1: that book because nothing is easy. But as long as
- 17:45Speaker 1: you keep going, as long as you put forward the
- 17:47Speaker 1: work and you believe, you have to have a lot
- 17:49Speaker 1: of faith in yourself and what you're doing, and it
- 17:53Speaker 1: will end up being the way that you actually envisioning
- 17:56Speaker 1: if it's in the cause. And that's what that book
- 17:58Speaker 1: actually entails. Fantastic And I love the name is part
- 18:01Speaker 1: of your speech as well, Gold Teeth to gold Jacket
- 18:03Speaker 1: love when we heard it on the party him in
- 18:05Speaker 1: Canton a couple of years ago. No doubt the book
- 18:08Speaker 1: is just as good. Edgren James A football life coming
- 18:11Speaker 1: up on Friday. Looking forward to seeing it, Edrian, thanks
- 18:14Speaker 1: for joining us, man, all right, thanks for having me. Man,
- 18:18Speaker 1: you got it, Thank you, sir, Edgroin James. By the way,
- 18:20Speaker 1: I mentioned Kurt Warner coming up next, his forward teammate.
- 18:24Speaker 1: We'll get the quarterback room. Can the Packers stay patient
- 18:28Speaker 1: and run the football? What should Ron Rivera do? All
- 18:32Speaker 1: of that? In mor straight ahead? All right? How about
- 18:43Speaker 1: those Washington Commanders. They went into Philadelphia, Taylor Hide, he
- 18:46Speaker 1: made enough plays, they ran the ball well, and they
- 18:49Speaker 1: handed the Eagles their first loss of the year. What
- 18:52Speaker 1: do you do now, Ron Rivera, when Carson Wentz comes back,
- 18:57Speaker 1: Because look at these numbers, HEINRICHI three and one, and
- 19:01Speaker 1: yes he does turned the ball over a bit, but
- 19:03Speaker 1: so does the other And there seems to be something
- 19:06Speaker 1: about momentum and positive energy. Ron, you see it. You
- 19:13Speaker 1: look at what is best for the team man. At
- 19:15Speaker 1: the end of the day, That's how it has to be.
- 19:17Speaker 1: You know, you there's a great saying that you treat everybody,
- 19:19Speaker 1: the saying you treat everybody fair, but you treat everybody
- 19:22Speaker 1: according to the team. And and that's what this is about.
- 19:25Speaker 1: So decision being made will be about the team first
- 19:27Speaker 1: and foremost. Um, you know. And one thing that I've
- 19:31Speaker 1: always done is, whoever the starter is, you know, I'm
- 19:33Speaker 1: going to commit to him fully. And because I don't
- 19:35Speaker 1: want them looking over the should I want to understand
- 19:37Speaker 1: this is the opportunity and this is where we're going
- 19:40Speaker 1: with it. So whatever the decision is made after you
- 19:43Speaker 1: know my conversations today and tomorrow morning, that's what we're
- 19:46Speaker 1: sticking to. Let's get in the quarterback room and dig
- 19:49Speaker 1: a little deeper here. Great to have Kurt Warner, our
- 19:51Speaker 1: Hall of Famer, back with us from Germany. Great call
- 19:54Speaker 1: with the entire Game Day Morning crew this past Sunday
- 19:57Speaker 1: in Munich. Kurt, put yourself in Ron Rivera's shoes here. Um,
- 20:01Speaker 1: there's some momentum. But remember they went out and they
- 20:04Speaker 1: got Carson Wentz because probably they didn't think Taylor Heneke
- 20:06Speaker 1: was good enough. Now they're winning. What do you think
- 20:09Speaker 1: you should do? You know, this is a tough one, Andrew,
- 20:13Speaker 1: because maybe if you looked at the tape and just
- 20:15Speaker 1: broke it down quarterback to quarterback, Carson Wentz maybe overall
- 20:20Speaker 1: was playing better football, making some better decisions than, uh,
- 20:23Speaker 1: than Taylor Heineke was. But there is just something about
- 20:27Speaker 1: the spark that Taylor Heneke brings this football team. And uh,
- 20:30Speaker 1: you know, you can play better overall. But what I
- 20:33Speaker 1: love about Taylor Henek is how well he plays in
- 20:35Speaker 1: the moment when they need him to make a play,
- 20:38Speaker 1: when they need a drive to be made. You believe,
- 20:41Speaker 1: uh that we're gonna make it, that he's going to
- 20:44Speaker 1: make it, that we're gonna find a way to win
- 20:45Speaker 1: these football games. And that's what you need at the
- 20:48Speaker 1: quarterback position. Can play as great as you want, you
- 20:51Speaker 1: need those guys in the huddle and on the sideline
- 20:53Speaker 1: to believe that you're going to win those tight football games.
- 20:56Speaker 1: And I believe that's what they say when Taylor Heneke
- 20:59Speaker 1: is behind center, because we've seen it over the last
- 21:01Speaker 1: few weeks. I think regardless of the decision, if they
- 21:04Speaker 1: could run the ball like they did against Philadelphia and
- 21:06Speaker 1: Houston really can't stop the run, they probably win this
- 21:09Speaker 1: Sunday coming up in Houston. Right now, they're five and five.
- 21:12Speaker 1: They're the eight seed in the NFC. Amazingly. The Packers, Kurt, however,
- 21:17Speaker 1: are four and six. It is our daily dose of
- 21:20Speaker 1: getting out of the hood here with the Green Bay offense.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Last week they also ran the ball well and Aaron
- 21:26Speaker 1: Rodgers through it only twenty times. Do you think they
- 21:31Speaker 1: can be that patient every week and succeed. I believe
- 21:37Speaker 1: they can be that patient if they're winning like that
- 21:40Speaker 1: on the outside in weeks to come. You know, I
- 21:43Speaker 1: hadn't seen that from this team. You know, coming into
- 21:46Speaker 1: this game that they had struggles being able to separate
- 21:49Speaker 1: and make those plays in one on one coverage. So
- 21:52Speaker 1: if you can run the football and teams have to
- 21:54Speaker 1: commit to that and leave you one on one on
- 21:56Speaker 1: the outside, if you can make those plays, yes, I
- 21:58Speaker 1: believe this is a formula that can be sustainable and
- 22:01Speaker 1: it plays to where the Packers are as a football team.
- 22:04Speaker 1: But we just haven't seen that consistency. So that's what
- 22:06Speaker 1: I want to see moving forward. Christian Watson staying healthy,
- 22:09Speaker 1: can he use that speed to be a difference maker?
- 22:12Speaker 1: And then I even saw plays being made by other
- 22:14Speaker 1: guys like Sammy Watkins on the outside in those one
- 22:17Speaker 1: on one situation. So if they can do that, which
- 22:20Speaker 1: we haven't seen throughout most of the year and run
- 22:22Speaker 1: the football, this is a good formula for them to
- 22:25Speaker 1: get back into this thing and maybe make a push
- 22:27Speaker 1: to sneak into the playoffs. Amazing. A week ago we're
- 22:30Speaker 1: talking about the sink, the ship sinking. I beg your pardon,
- 22:33Speaker 1: And now they could potentially get two wins in five days,
- 22:37Speaker 1: potentially against good teams. Get the five and six and
- 22:39Speaker 1: be suddenly right back in the conversation. Um, the Bears
- 22:43Speaker 1: are not necessarily in that conversation here, but an odd
- 22:46Speaker 1: thing is happening, Curt in Chicago. They are losing games,
- 22:48Speaker 1: and they're heartbreaking losses here. But the light seemingly has
- 22:52Speaker 1: gone on here for Justin Fields. A lot of it though,
- 22:54Speaker 1: is with his legs. Just curious from your QB room perspective,
- 22:59Speaker 1: what you have seen from Justin Fields the last couple
- 23:02Speaker 1: of weeks and your take now on his future moving forward.
- 23:06Speaker 1: He's an incredible playmaker and they've built the offense around
- 23:10Speaker 1: that playmaking ability, and so it's been great and it's
- 23:13Speaker 1: looked better because they've been explosive and made big plays.
- 23:17Speaker 1: The question simply becomes, how sustainable is this sort of
- 23:21Speaker 1: offense moving forward? And how do you develop your franchise
- 23:25Speaker 1: quarterback when your offense is built this way. So it's
- 23:28Speaker 1: always that give of give and take of being successful
- 23:31Speaker 1: and being competitive while also getting our quarterback ready for
- 23:35Speaker 1: the future and what we believe he's going to have
- 23:37Speaker 1: to do if we're going to be a championship type team.
- 23:41Speaker 1: And so I like what I've seen. I like the
- 23:43Speaker 1: way that it's helped him settle in, made the passing
- 23:46Speaker 1: game a little bit simpler because teams are committing to
- 23:48Speaker 1: stopping the run. But how sustainable is this for him
- 23:52Speaker 1: to play the game this way? Moving forward? All right,
- 23:54Speaker 1: let's get to Buffalo here. What does the QB room?
- 23:56Speaker 1: What does the tape tell you about the difference in
- 24:00Speaker 1: playmaking Josh Allen get out to the big lead, Josh Allen,
- 24:05Speaker 1: and the Josh Allen that we see committing turnovers in
- 24:09Speaker 1: the red zone, the Josh Allen that that ends up
- 24:13Speaker 1: on the ground, you know, pounding the side of his helmet,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and just the frustration there because it's like ninety percent
- 24:20Speaker 1: at the time, it's great. And then and then in
- 24:21Speaker 1: those moments, Kurt, what happens, Well, what happens is you
- 24:27Speaker 1: have to realize when you're playing quarterback that some of
- 24:29Speaker 1: the nuances of the game change when you're down in
- 24:33Speaker 1: the red zone, you know where where there isn't guys
- 24:35Speaker 1: out in the field when you're trying to make those plays,
- 24:37Speaker 1: there's extra guys down in the red zone. When guys
- 24:39Speaker 1: are you have to cover the entirety of the field.
- 24:42Speaker 1: When when you're on the twenty yard line, it's different.
- 24:45Speaker 1: When you're down tight in the red zone and they
- 24:47Speaker 1: don't believe that you can throw the ball over him
- 24:49Speaker 1: because they've got the back end line there. So some
- 24:51Speaker 1: of the nuances of playing the position change when you
- 24:54Speaker 1: get down to the red zone. I don't want to
- 24:56Speaker 1: take the playmaking away from Josh Allen because it usually
- 24:59Speaker 1: works out in his favor. He's just got to become
- 25:01Speaker 1: a little bit more aware of the types of throws
- 25:04Speaker 1: he has to make when he gets tight into the
- 25:06Speaker 1: red zone because of those different nuances that that play
- 25:10Speaker 1: out in the way defenses play a little bit differently
- 25:12Speaker 1: technique wise down in the red zone. Yeah, and and
- 25:16Speaker 1: look they they the pick of the Patrick Peterson pick
- 25:19Speaker 1: when they're on the twenty yard line. He's firing the
- 25:21Speaker 1: ball in the end zone in the game. That one
- 25:23Speaker 1: is just it's just maddening. He saw the look on
- 25:25Speaker 1: his face there. Um, I want to get back to
- 25:27Speaker 1: Edger and James was with us before you hopped on
- 25:29Speaker 1: here his A Football Life debuts on Friday, we played
- 25:32Speaker 1: the trailer where you spoke of what he meant to
- 25:35Speaker 1: the Cardinals after he left the Colts. Kurt, he was
- 25:39Speaker 1: part of the team that obviously went to the Super
- 25:41Speaker 1: Bowl and Tampa. What did Edger and James in the
- 25:43Speaker 1: second part of his career mean, do you guys? Well,
- 25:47Speaker 1: I would just say the biggest thing is that it
- 25:49Speaker 1: was more about his personality. It was more about his
- 25:51Speaker 1: character than it was about his play. And we all
- 25:54Speaker 1: know he was a great player. He's a Hall of
- 25:56Speaker 1: Fame player, but it just speaks to who the man
- 25:59Speaker 1: of Edger and James is. And that's what I loved
- 26:02Speaker 1: is he came down and he broke down that he
- 26:04Speaker 1: came into Arizona and broke down a bunch of the
- 26:06Speaker 1: barriers and he kind of just laid it out, Hey,
- 26:08Speaker 1: we need to do this, we need to do that.
- 26:10Speaker 1: He helped us to believe because of the way that
- 26:12Speaker 1: he was a pro each and every day and focused
- 26:15Speaker 1: on the things that were most important. So I have
- 26:18Speaker 1: so much respect for the man of Veger and James,
- 26:21Speaker 1: and I was so excited to be his teammate, to
- 26:23Speaker 1: learn from him and also be a part of him
- 26:26Speaker 1: getting a chance to play in the Super Bowl because
- 26:28Speaker 1: he was too great of a player to not have
- 26:31Speaker 1: that opportunity. I just wish I could have brought him
- 26:33Speaker 1: home a ring part of a cold Jack at backfield
- 26:35Speaker 1: and one day Larry Fitzgerald will get his as well.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Kurt Warner, as always, sir, thank you, I appreciate it.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Let's talk about the Cardinals a little bit more, because
- 26:44Speaker 1: remember they're going to be in Mexico City on Monday night.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Kyler Murray did not play this past Sunday, Cult McCoy
- 26:51Speaker 1: did and the Cardinals beat the Ramps. Cliff Kingsbury moments
- 26:55Speaker 1: ago an update on both. I was really bad on
- 27:00Speaker 1: predicting Buddha last week, so I don't want to get
- 27:02Speaker 1: into predicting Kyler. But he's progressed well, I mean, like
- 27:06Speaker 1: I said, he's still get intriment on it. We wanted
- 27:08Speaker 1: to be when he's out there, particularly against this defensive line.
- 27:11Speaker 1: So I won't have a feel for that till later
- 27:14Speaker 1: in the week. Really. Colt McCoy also dealing with an injury.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Kingsbury says they are both day to day. He hopes
- 27:20Speaker 1: one of them good to know when the pluck kick
- 27:22Speaker 1: up the bone. Running NFL Now is a production of
