- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's going to be it beside the tariffs.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: And like that.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: So this week, well, first of all, let's do it the right way.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully you all had a wonderful fabulous Thanksgiving with your family.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: Bless.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Enjoyed some food, bellies were full, bellies were laughing and jiggling and all kinds of other great stuff.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you played a, a browsing game of a Napoli with the family.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: I give a shout out to if I can't to Whole Foods.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: We this year is the first year our kid in our kitchen is all torn up We're we bought a new home.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: I need to stop me for yes whole foods now Whole foods whole W HOLE foods not Whole foods just so you know, okay, go ahead.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, we didn't have anywhere to cook my wife didn't have anywhere to cook, so we took a shot on a cook turkey from ant with sides from whole foods, H-O-W-H-O-L-E foods, and we were really, really pleasantly surprised at how good the turkey was, how good the sides were.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: amazingly reasonably priced, right, we thought was really cool.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, so, uh, way to go whole foods, whole, whole foods.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: This year we're ordered from Whole Foods.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: Whole Foods.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: You want to come on number five?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I probably shouldn't have said that, right?
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: HR, anyway.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, so we took a week off to celebrate.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks to everyone with our families.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: And we talked about the fact that we were going to review wicked for good.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: We could, for good.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: So the interesting thing, I'll start first because I don't think I said this beforehand.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: I had not seen the first one, the last time we talked.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's correct.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I did say that.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't sure.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Interestingly enough, after we recorded the podcast, I went home and I don't know if I did it that night if I did it the night after, but I found the first version wicked part one because you can't call it part do that's a different show.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's a different movie.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, wicked.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: I found wicked the first version or the first part one.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: What a good.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: It was on prime.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, time prime.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I didn't know so we watched it and I will say this I am a fan of the musical itself I got I was fortunate enough to be able to see Adina Mazzel and Christian channel worth as Glinda Glinda Glinda Glinda Glinda Glinda Glinda Glinda yeah, and and Alcuba Alcuba Alcuba Alcuba some people say Alcuba.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's Alcuba whatever
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: People would elisp, they would elisp, and they also find me hot cheetos, which we'll get to a little bit later than they're going to get to that.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, so yeah, so huge fan of the musical and hadn't seen the movie version.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: And as you know, the atrically, there's only certain things you can do by theatrical I mean like stage-wise, there's only certain things you can do, you can't do too much with the sets and that kind of stuff, you just need to have room for things.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: So the first movie was great because of the fact that they were able to like the visuals were amazing that library with those revolving ladders I'm going to use that in a different area of things that I like to do where I roll dice and and we do kinds of other things as well, but
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: Storytelling what not, but anyway, that's gonna appear in some library that I'm gonna create in my mind So the first one was great.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: I loved it.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, um, and the funny thing was I hadn't seen it previously So when the, uh, when the girls in the household came home when they saw it They were pissed about the way it ended
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, okay, so how did it end?
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: And they said, well, they ended with the fine gravity.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: I go, but that's the way the stage play ends.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: Act one ends with the fine gravity.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then I think it's like a half-hour intermission because it's all the extra stuff that they have to do in that kind of stuff.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: And the second, they got to get the flying monkeys back in the game.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: And the second, not an easy fee.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's not.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: And the second act is shorter.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, what?
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: So I was shorter.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the way this happened with the movie, too.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: Which I kind of figured was going to happen.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: The part that I didn't figure was going to happen was that some of the magic was lost.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: You thought?
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: It seemed disjointed and like there was a great scene in the first one where Kristen Channelworth and Adina Mazzel actually make an appearance and you can see her, her Adina, given nod to the gal who's playing Elsaba and you can tell that she's just like- It's getting a revo.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, thank you.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: You can tell that she's just doing, you can tell that Adina gives her like the that a girl nod kind of thing.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just, I don't know, it seemed just jointed, like I feel like the wizard and the other gal got like became minimal characters.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: They were bigger characters in the part one, they weren't so big in the second one.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: Spoiler alert here.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: very very minimal appearances by the actual wizard of odds cast like i'm talking about Dorothy and tain man's character on all that kind of stuff but but they're in the musical though i know so the second part of the musical to actually takes place during the wizard of off like the actual wizard of us right and
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of was hoping for some, I guess I was just hoping for some more.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: I was hoping for some bigger development and things of that nature kind of what they did in the first one and I just feel like I was let down.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: Is it worth seeing?
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, absolutely.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's worth seeing just so you can kind of get a conclusion.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think they conclude things well It is two hours and 18 minutes, so to do be aware of that, but I think it's two hours and 18 minutes of fluff
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: is what I think.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think I don't know and I know they have filmed it all like within the Sam amount of time frame so there's no difference in age and things of that nature and you know kind of like the way they did Lord of the Rings.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: I just I left the theater wanting more.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just put it that way and maybe it was a bad thing for me to see the part one the week before I saw part two.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: That could be and maybe that's what killed it for me.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: All in all though.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give it a seven.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: Oh seven and a half.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty good.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: We'll give it a seven and a half.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, I mean, I don't know.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: Not bad.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: Not bad.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: Not bad.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: Ready?
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm given it an eight.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was, I thought it was a good sequel.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: I agree with you.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: Was it as good as the original?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: The first one though.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought it was good.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the main characters, Arianna Grande and Cynthia, and Reval did a really good job.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: Anything Jeff Goldblum's in, I'm watching.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: I just love Jeff Goldblum.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't ever need to hear him sing again ever.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't need to hear him sing again.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I think he's a good actor.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I like a lot of the stuff he's been in.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: The set design, you know, great set design, oh my gosh, cinematography, and you're right, you can do things in a movie that you can't do on a stage and so you get away with a lot more, you know, the flying monkeys is obviously an amazing, you know, back in the early, the first Wizard of Oz, the flying monkeys, you know,
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: They're okay.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: These flame monkeys are crazy good.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they're also CGI created too.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a big story.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: So so what I was left with and I don't want to give away a lot of the movie because that people want to go see it and I don't want to give away.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to spoiler a lot of the kind of stuff here for people but.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think at this point enough, people have already seen it though, it's been two weeks.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, but still, there's always somebody that's like, I wish you any tool we did.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, and that's probably.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: Is that a nod to our mind?
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: No, or is that a nod, or is that a nod to Andrew?
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, maybe Andrew.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Andrew has said it.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't been moving away.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, my, he has my question.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, when are they going to redo the original Wizard of Oz?
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but there is talks about, because that's got to be coming.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to say anything.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: I have heard though through the rumor mill that there is going to be a prequel to wicked coming out, which is going to tell Glendus side of the story and feature her.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like we need more.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like we need another over the top blonde movie.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway,
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: I still say Glinda was the bad witch.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: She could have told Dorothy when she gave her the shoes that she could have clicked three times and gone home and studied like, hey, I need somebody to kill a witch.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: Guess who's going to get the gig?
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: So that's my opinion.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know the Glinda but it would be nice to see a remake to see how well they can do a remake of the original.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: Now, there is the whiz, if you remember the whiz, but it was a totally different story.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: And told from a different perspective too.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: Very different.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I was working in a new stand-up and I was working with a female comic who have to be African-American and the wizard come out at that time and she was talking about the movie and her closing line in the movie was, I love the movie but the only thing I didn't get was why did Dorothy want to go back to Harlem?
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: you're in this amazing city and you want to go back to Harlem and she said it like three times the audience like completely lost it because the visual of that is like, yeah, right.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: I like the whiz.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was an entertaining movie.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think it was as good as the original Wizard of Oz in terms of storyline and that, but and that you know good music in there too.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just curious, when are they going to redo the original Wizard of Oz and who are they going to get to play Dorothee?
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: Do we need another Wizard of Oz?
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think we need another Wizard of Oz, just as bad as we need another predator movie.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think we need, we had wicked, wicked for good.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think you need to continue.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think you need to finish the story.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think people want to finish the story.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: And the finish of the story is, Dority goes to As.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: And, but that's not who she's going to kill, but that's in the second part of wicked.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know, but it's not the whole tin man, you know, not the whole journey.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: I don't need to see another metal guy shaking in his boots for no reason.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know what?
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: We agreed to disagree.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm going to say to that.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: M-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so what did you what you what do you rate it you say eight and give it a name.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you know, I probably I probably watch it again.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'd watch it is entertaining.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: I love musicals.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's entertaining talk about next, but I love musicals that are well done.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like musicals that are stupid.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like what was that one that one in Academy Award.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: L.A. something L.A. land and L.A. land.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's one of them.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: That was a bad living musical, my opinion.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll go on one move on from that to good musicals.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: Well, before we move on to good musicals, let's talk about what's coming out this week, because it's interesting movies, none of which we're going to review.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: No, because we're going to do something different and we'll get to that at the end of the
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: at the end of the question.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: So you have to stay tuned all the way to the end.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: But let's take a look at what's coming out this week.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know what to make of this first one.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: Man finds tape.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: It just sounds like a dead headline on a newspaper and I don't want you to want to pay attention to it It's so much so a guy lost at home depot so much the duct tape so much so that we're not even gonna talk about what it's about because I don't really think anyone's interested in it.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know five nights at Freddy's too.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: No, so there may be ten nights of Freddy's it would be times two right?
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, which is more blood and guts about, you know, long be gotten animatronic robots that used to say in a pizza place that was designed for kids.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: I won't say any more.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then last but not least, the super brain idea, which I'm sorry, I just don't understand why we need to do this, kill Bill the whole bloody affair, which is basically the part one and part two, put together in one running.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: So you can sit in a movie theater for six hours and try not to
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: Which I could not do.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't even anyone.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: So no, I'll not only pee myself.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'd pee to people next to me.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: However, I will say this.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Kill Bill Williams.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: Thought he was wanting to do our great movies for putting Tarantino.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: Why now during the holiday season?
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: Do we need to do this?
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't understand why they bring glory movies out there in the holiday season anyway.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: There really hasn't been a good Christmas movie for long, long time.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: Well, maybe.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe jingle all the way.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: That was pretty good.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a shortage of nigger.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't like it off at first, but I like it now.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: I like it off.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's hold that.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: Let's hold that thought.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: Because we'll talk more about that at the end of the episode.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: Let's find it.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: But let's talk about instead.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: We reviewed wicked for good.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about some of our favorite musicals.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll do what we've done before.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: We'll do runner up and first place.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: I got a couple likes.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: I got a couple likes.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: I got a couple likes.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: I got a couple likes.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: I got a couple.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: because I just thought on one two that I want to add into the mix as well.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: So, runner-up for me is going to be a movie about a nerd who is in, I think it's Brooklyn, if it's not Brooklyn, it's Queens and if it's not Queens, it's the Bronx.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: He works inside of a flower shop and Audrey 2000, I think, is the name of the plant.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: uh... and of course what i'm talking about his little shop of horrors uh... the uh... movie version which featured rick maranis and uh... denis uh... not denis uh... what is his name uh... i'm have uh... king dot steve miller steve martens steve miller wow there we go i went into seventies rock and roll for you yeah steve martin as the dentist which uh... i as a kid used to walk around my thing on uh... does you know like and doing all like try to do all the moves and maybe chemistry like that
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: for a great musical, Best Music of All Time.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: The music I think is just great in it.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's very, 50s do-woppy, so to speak.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's got a great subcast, the plots really good.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's got a great love story.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then of course, the plant and some of the amazing vocals that I've heard from people who've played Audrey before in the past, just absolutely amazing.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great stage production as well, too.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of fun to do.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: And it's got a lot of interesting elements to it and that kind of stuff.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: you know, with a great cast as well too.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: So what about you for runner-up?
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I have a few runner-ups.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, if you really want to, if you like musicals, you got to go back to the old MGM studio musicals, because those are musicals.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, those were big cast, big dance numbers, amazing choreography, good story lines, good singing, some of our black and white, which is fine, but there are a lot of them in color you can get to.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: Once the studio musicals kind of board out, there was a long period of time where they weren't any good musicals in my opinion.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: A Greece was good, Greece came out that was good, there were a couple of other ones, but not a whole lot.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say that my runner-ups, my two runner-ups are going to be Chicago with Richard Gear.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: Always to say which version.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: Would Richard Gear.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I have to tie him, not a Richard Gear fan.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: I like him in a couple things, but I really like them in this.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: I was sitting there going, I can't believe this is Richard Gear, singing, dancing.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: The scene with him using Renee Zellberger as a puppet is brilliant.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: Whoever put that together, that would bring, and he did a great job on that.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: The other one is Oklahoma, which is a
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's a sentimental favor for me because when I was in college, I was a theater major and I was in Oklahoma, I played Andrew Carnson and we did 21 performances of Oklahoma so.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: So Oklahoma has a special place in my heart.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: Number one, but my mom came to see the show and kept asking my wife, where's the at?
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: Where's the at?
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: Because I had done my own makeup, I looked like a really old guy.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: uh... i kept changing no different from now no different now but back then i kept adding to my costume so much that at one point the director said okay you got to stop adding shit to your costume because every time i would come out first i might come out the girl playing ato any would actually absolutely lose it
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: to lose it because I kept adding more stuff and he said, you got to stop because she'd never going to make it through opening night.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: He said, this is it.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: You can't add anything else to this.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: So that's sentimental favorite.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: That was my runner-ups.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: OK, so you help me remind me of a new musical that came out.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, a musical that came out recently that I forgot to add to my list.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm going to interject it here because it's going to be my second runner up.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: interject the way.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the greatest showman.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: with Hugh German, and oh, is this your number one?
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and Michelle Williams.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: So there we go.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you're going to call an audible now.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: I see how you're going to do that.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, yeah, great.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: I jack-a-fron.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Zen and Deia, it's just a great cast.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, who knew Hugh could sing?
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: Holy cow.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: And dance.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: And he's never been undancing with the stars.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, okay, he's still star.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: You got to be a husband star.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's dancing with the used to be stars.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: I call.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's what it is.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, look who's it got.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: They go like 20 years back.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they had what's his name from Conan.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: the side.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: I can never remember.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm late.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen Andy and Andy and Andy Richter.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, come on.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's really not dance with the stars.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, yeah.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: You're not going to get, uh, you're not going to get, uh, what's the name, uh, George Clooney.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm dancing with the stars.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: He may get heart up soon enough and who knows here's what I thought when that show first came out as an aside When they said dancing with the stars something.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, here's how the show should be instead of dancing with the Used to be stars in my opinion.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: It should be a guy like people like me and you guy girl with a celebrity
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: Could be a husband celebrity, but a celebrity.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: And then a day a professional dancer.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: Correct, correct.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: Now, now what's the title?
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: Dancing with the stars.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: Because it is it's stars dancing with stars.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: It stars of bar room dancing.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: Dancing with has been stars.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: But it's really not dancing with the stars.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's dancing with the stars of bar room dancing.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: but they don't, the bar room dancers don't, the other people.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of this, I mean, it's people who have a YouTube channel for Christ's sake.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: Really?
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's the girl that was on the Mormon wives.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: Really?
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, who knew that this was gonna turn into a tired for me about dancing at the start?
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: I love dancing.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: I met my wife dancing.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: We did dance contest, we took third place, we took second place, we danced a lot.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: And when this show came out, I'm like, oh my God, this is gonna be so great.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: And then when they started announcing the people,
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: These people have been on TV for 20 years, for Christ's sake.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then I said, what's not dancing with the stars?
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's like you said, dancing with the ballroom stars.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: So make it like an average person dancing with a celebrity with a choreographer who's a professional dancer, and maybe they win some money, not just a mirror ball, and now you got something in my opinion.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's get back to the greatest showman, which was actually what this whole thing was about, which directed by Michael Gracie.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't seen it yet, it's available, streaming all over the place.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: Don't see it.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you deserve, you deserve to see a great musical, and this is a great musical.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: So with that being said, that's my second runner-up.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: We'll call it in first place.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: First place is a musical called the producers.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: which I fell in love with.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: I was in the cast a long time ago, fell in love with it and was great to see it in film adaptation version as well too, with Matthew Broderick and some other great stars who, yeah, thank you Nathan Lane, who's like, in like, well, in bird cages,
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: And most one of the most underrated moves.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, absolutely.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: She's hechman was fabulous.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: I love with the M when he said nobody wants the dance of me.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: No, he was fabulous.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody wants nobody's dancing with me.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody wants the dance of me.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then he tells her driver, maybe he'd hung the street.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's in your dream.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: Producers is a great flick.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's also a great musical, it's funny, it's got heart and it's just, it's an amazing one.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: So that's my number one pick for musicals.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I had great a showman.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: That is my number one, but I didn't have great a showman.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: I can't have a tie.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Puerto Rican.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: I got a change.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: He changed it on the spot because I picked the good shot.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: I have West Side Story is my number one.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, you know, the remake because you're a shark the remake.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't care so much about I love the original West Side Story even though.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: There's only one Latino in the whole cast of the Puerto Rican side, which is Rita Moreno, right?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: Which for Nardo's, she played Murillo.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: The guy that, yeah, the guy that's Greek and love woulder is Filipino.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, come on, really?
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: So when they, when they said they're going to redo it with an authentic cast with Manuel, Manuel, you mean?
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: lineman well yeah i thought this is going to be great and it was very just a pointy the beauty of the first west side story to me is that they allowed
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: you to see like when they're coming down the alley you see the whole group in the new one and which is typical of movies nowadays it's cut cut cut cut cut cut cut and so where you want to see the synchronization of 20 dancers doing the same thing as a dancer
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: They cut to somebody's face, or they cut to somebody on the sidewalk watching, or they cut to somebody's, you know, finger, they do that and dance with the stars too, but it would be really nuts.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: And you were coming back here.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: Here's a little no fact.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: Because some of the greatest musicals ever were Fred Astaire.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you have to put those at the top, too.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm, we're going a little bit more current, but Fred Astaire had a clause in his contract.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: Not Santa Claus, that's next week.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: That, uh, you spoiler alert, like that?
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: They, uh, they can only film him when he was dancing, head to toe.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: Which makes sense.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to watch a dancer, you want to watch head to toe.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you don't want, you don't want to go in on somebody's or if you're Lisa Lee's cold jam when they're doing something amazing with their feet.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: What's that?
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: That one over your head.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, man.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: You said you want to see a dancer head to toe and I said, or if you're Lisa Lisa in the cold jam.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: And so here last.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's a pop song from the end.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: Last musical for me, it's not, it's not at my top, but it's a really, really good musical that nobody's going to know.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: If you say cats, I'm jumping across this table and I'm going to smack you.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: I had an opportunity to wrap Robert Geon who played Benson for years.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody knew him as Benson.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: I met him when I worked at ABC.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: He was subbing for Oprah for a week, and just by chance I'm walking back to my office.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's just kind of around seven o'clock at night, and he's walking back to the Oprah office.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: And we meet.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: And so I said, hello, I introduced myself.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, I'm a huge fan, and I have, I got his autograph, and I, I, you know, was telling him.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I can see the kind of look on his face was, yeah, I know you like Benson, you're like me in the, what was the movie with soap?
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: So, and instead, I said, I loved you in the WTTW performances of Phantom, which he was in, and his fabulous voice.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: I said,
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: and his eyes lit up like, because it's all Benson and so.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: And we talked for about 20 minutes about pearly and phantom and the voice, this guy had a voice that was unbelievable.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: And he was like, I said if, you know, I don't ask for autographs because I work it, but I would love to get yours and he was like absolutely.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: You need passed away a few years ago.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, nobody, you know, I like when you run into somebody and you can, and you know, a little something different about them and you can bring it out and get a whole different reaction.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: I could have said, I loved you in Benson, but I didn't even bring up Benson or so.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: And he was great in both.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: But pearly, if you never had a chance that you could probably get at the library now, check it out.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's a really great, it's an African-American-based play and he plays pearly in the music in it and his singing in it is amazing.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to throw that out there as a you got to go you got to see it if you can get phantom too if you can see him in phantom I don't know if you can get that that's the WTTW thing and those are it's hard to get those it might be a PBS thing you can look there as well too Yeah, or YouTube YouTube if you're out there you can get a phantom of the opera with Robert Gilm
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: it was well worth the search folks well worth the search we will say this i have seen phantom portrayed uh... from other uh... african american actors as well yeah and uh... not to dismeckel Crawford because he's great as phantom as the original phantom but uh... couple of the gentleman that i've seen uh... who were african american pulled it off amazingly well as well too uh... and so yeah for sure
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, that's the episode of cheesy popcorn for this week, but we said there was a very special surprise.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah, there we go.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: He gave it away about five minutes ago in the episode though.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, so yeah, so Christmas is around the corner, and rather than wait until like a week before Christmas, we have decided that next week, because we didn't mention we were going to review any movies or anything like that.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that's because next week we want to do like a whole Christmas special.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll talk about some of our favorite Christmas movies,
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about some other things that are festive.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe we've been talking about festive as well We'll see that can do that.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: We could talk about TV shows that are great.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: We can watch them during There's a great holiday season show.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: That was kind of my point there
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: And hey, why don't we, if you have in the comments section, put in your favorite Christmas movies.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then, and you know, just put first names.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then we'll say, hey, Joey said he likes this movie in that movie, and we'll do a shout-out.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we'll do shout-outs, right?
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, we could definitely do shout-outs.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: And with that, number one Christmas movie.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: you will talk about that during the Christmas movie.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: And so until then, we're going to conclude this episode of cheesy popcorn.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: But as always, when we see you in the theaters, make sure you save us some popcorn.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_00]: Some cheesy popcorn.
