Click. [imitates engine roaring] The power of the bat reactor going through the bat diamond. Atomic batteries for power. [laughs] Turbines for speed. Turbines to speed.
0:18
[laughs] Click. Damn. Oh, yeah. [laughs] Damn. Turbines. Yeah. Turbine. Turbines to speed. Turbo. Turbo action.
0:36
Drove a Ford. That's my Robin. [laughs] Really angrily. Always punching himself. Found on road dead. [sniffs] [clears throat] Had turbo- Fix or repair daily.
0:54
Mm-hmm. I'm familiar with those acronyms. [clears throat] That's as far as I get, though. All right, you boys ready? Mm-hmm.

You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into The Imaginary Dose of Fat, recorded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
1:59
And now, it is my pleasure to introduce to you the hosts for tonight's fat bike sermon, Sven and Gomez. Hey. It's good to be back, ladies and gentlemen. Greetings, earthlings.
2:12
Please allow me to introduce El Vato Loco, JK Living, man. And please also say hello, introduce Smooth Evil, led by our maestro amigo, Chris Daisy.
2:23
[upbeat music] [laughs] Hey, Chris. Hello. Are you at the ballpark? Uh, close. My basement. The basement ball diamond?
2:41
That's what I call the ballpark. [laughs] The ballpark. Was that your organ that was making that noise? [laughs] Yes. Yes, it was. Well, all right.
2:55
The Weekly Dose of Fat is brought to you by my other brother Daryl Rims, 'cause they're like nectar to a hummingbird. Surly put the entire mind of their engineer Thor into my other brother Daryl Rims.
3:11
Learn more about bikes and wheelies at surlybikes.com. JK, appraise our listeners of the charges. We start the show with the event of the week. No, we don't.
3:29
No, we don't. [laughs] No, we haven't got one this week. That was quick. Quick chat. [laughs] Actually, we will. Chris, after this bit, Chris can tell us about an event he's got coming up. All right. So, seamless.
3:40
We chat the bike fat chat with Chewy on the program this evening. We check in with the Fietti Farm Field Report, brought to you by Quiring Cycles.
3:49
The Quiring Triple D is the fattest ride on two wheels, featuring the new generation of 5.05-inch tires. Visit quiringcycles.net to see the next level of bicycle exploration. We'll take calls from our listener.
4:04
Our third caller will receive a new Surly Rally sport package, plus every caller gets a sample tin of Uncle Dick's Bead Slip. Bead Slip, Bead Slip. Sven reveals the summer schedule. Summer schedule.
4:18
And finally, we'll visit with Dan Furman of the notorious Furman brothers and talk about Dan's innovative approach to fat bikes and trail building. Tune's toil. [metal clanging] All right. Top of the hill.
4:31
Top of the hill. Hey, Chris. How's it going down there? Yeah. It's good. You mentioned when I talked to you a little earlier today that you got a, you, you have a demo event coming up.
4:43
You wanna give us a little fill-in on that action? Yes.
4:47
Uh, the lovely people at Soul Food Cycles are gonna bring a whole bunch of really cool bikes down to Beulah Park in Zion, our little hometown trail system, and, uh, let you rip on 'em, uh, from 11:00 to 5:00 on Sunday, May 22nd.
5:05
Dude. Right on. And let you- We came up with a great name for their next bike in Decorah this weekend. Yeah? Yeah. We can't tell you. What- We're, we're gonna have, we'll, uh, we're meeting- Oh...
5:17
we're meeting with- All right... their top level executives in a focus group- Oh... a naked steam room focus group, where we'll, uh, reveal, uh, that and maybe check each other for ticks. Nice.
5:31
How do I get on one of these, uh, focus groups? [laughs] I have a lot of ticks that need taking care of. [laughs] Well, crispy critters, play me a dirge.
5:47
[laughs] [upbeat music] Jesus. [laughs] What the hell is going on in that basement?
6:03
That's a lot of crackling going on in my brain, yo. Yep. All right, Chris. Thanks for the call, buddy Take it easy. See ya. See ya, maestro. Bye.
6:13
[phone clicks] So you boys are drinking, uh, the, uh, leftovers from show 100 still. Yep, we had a pretty- Shoot... we had a, well, we had a pretty good stash of it, for one.
6:24
Maybe we should have a contest to see, like, when the beer from show 100 will, will run out. [laughs] What show we'll be on, 106? It's gonna take a while. [laughs] One- We're not r- not drinking at the shop much anymore.
6:37
[laughs] One fart-teen. Yeah. The, the day Gomez comes back. Dun, dun. Dun. So our special guest, has, is he on the line, Mr., uh, Chewy?
6:54
Okay, we have to fill some time. [laughs] It's all right, I can- We're stretching. [laughs] Yeah. Stretch. JK's, JK's pulling taffy over there. Yep. Which is okay, 'cause I have to call back into the show anyway.
7:05
Oh, okay. 'Cause I hung up on us. [laughs] Stand by, we're having technical difficulties. Our technical director, Bobby. [laughs] Whoa.
7:22
Damn it, Bobby. Damn it, Bobby. How many times have I told you? Oh, may the fourth, may the fourth, may the fourth be with you. Cheerleading is not a sport, Bobby.
7:38
To manage your call, is from the call-in studio web interface. [phone beeping] Hey, that's- Yeah, yeah, that's their whole album cover. There we go. Hokey smokes.
7:49
[laughs] There we, well, I'm doing my technical wizardry today, so, uh, we got Chewy on the line now. Chewy. What the heck was that?
7:58
Uh, well, I accidentally hung up on us instead of on Chris when he called in earlier, so, 'cause I'm like, "Those guys suck, I'm getting rid of them." Oh, that, wait, that was us. [laughs] That was us.
8:10
So ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the program, fresh from his dictatorship of the Decorah Time Trials, the one and only Chewy. Fellas, how are you? Seems like I haven't talked to you guys in, like, days.
8:24
[laughs] I know. This is the- At least Gomez, anyway. [laughs] This is, this is the first time that you're on the show as a special guest, the first chair, as it were. And I took the short bus to get here.
8:36
[laughs] So you wanted to come on the program and set fat bikes and plus bikes back on course, so I think we should respectfully surrender the floor to you, good sir. [laughs] First, first of all, I wanted to come on?
8:52
Does this mean that you're not bringing me the case of beer you promised? [laughs] We ixnay on the ear bay. That's horrible.
8:59
Uh, I think that there was a huge- [laughs] There was, wasn't there, like, a huge scandal payola? Uh- Oh, sorry, I forgot about that. Never mind.
9:08
I'm, I'm busy looking at, at Facebook right now, trying to decide what the hell is going on with everybody. Oh? Our buddy Troy from, from, uh, um, Over the Edge- Troy Rarick... I don't know what his deal is.
9:20
Is he, is he like, yeah, is he like... He's like, he's like a little kid. He should be seen and not heard. All of his pictures, he looks like a freaking rock star, any picture he posts.
9:30
Any time he puts a video out there, it's like, [laughs] "Who is this freak?" Troy on video. Oh, he did bring a- Yeah. It's, uh, it's intense. Yeah.
9:41
And his, uh, although his description of, um, Beer Ninja Cowboy was really nice, because we did wind up using that again. We hadn't played that in quite a while. That did save our butts quite a bit. True.
9:52
The Dao of Troy. Right on. [laughs] The teachings. So obviously this call's gonna be great already. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:00
[laughs] You know, Troy, if you're listening out there, first of all, don't you have anything better to do than listen to us idiots?
10:06
But if you are listening out there, hey, think about your own show, The Troy Rarick Show, rants and madness from the Colorado Plateau and beyond. Yeah, I think we've got some openings in the radio show schedule.
10:19
[laughs] Indeed, we can basically, uh- We should go, we should go out there and do a show from there. Like, we, that was, that's where I actually met you, Gomez, was out there at this place, wasn't it? Yeah. Heck yeah.
10:27
Peyote and Troy Rarick and the hot desert. Beer in a, beer in an old bathtub laying out back. How could you go wrong? Oh, you paint such a- [laughs] You paint such a picture for me. Ay caramba.
10:42
[laughs] Let me see what else was going on here. Oh, yeah. So then the other one that, that's been driving me nuts is my, um, an acquaintance, Anna Schwinn, going on and on about,
10:57
I don't know how the right way to put it, women being shorted pay in cycling. Although after her today's rant, I feel a little bit better that it seems to be more leaning toward, uh, sanctioned races- Oh...
11:14
rather than us. I mean, I seriously, she pissed me off so bad, I went back and looked at all my... I, I don't know if you guys know what I'm talking about.
11:22
She's been going on about equality in women's cycling and overall cycling. And I thought- Well, I, I heard that she-... I'm mostly gi- Yeah, I heard that she attacked Dirty- [laughs]...
11:32
in some sort of Bear- I think the Dirty attack was-... Beer Ninja Cowboy... the Dirty attack was different. Yeah. Oh, all right. The Dirty attack was, I think, was about, um,
11:41
the little ads that come on that DC posts- Mm-hmm... of interesting items in your home or on your bicycle. That also- I think that her, her- That also have pictures of boobs in them.
12:00
[laughs] Not, not always. Not always. Not always. Sometimes it's booty. Well, yeah. Yeah. It could be, you know, um, it could be anything. And, and I, obviously she, she doesn't take that in fun.
12:14
I haven't, I haven't talked to Dirty about it. I haven't seen how badly she beat him up or- You know, but, uh, I don't think
12:23
sticking up for those guys, I think they're doing it in fun and I don't think they're the ones going out and taking the pictures. As far as I know, they're not. So it's,
12:30
um, pictures that are sent in and, and they just figure out fun ways to do them. I've got a...
12:36
I actually have a friend that does kind of her own thing similar to that, only it's not quite as, as, uh, the poses aren't quite as lacking in clothing, if that's the way [laughs] you want to call it.
12:47
I like to use the word- And we started doing the same thing to her, making... Yeah.
12:50
We started doing the same thing to her, making fun of the light switch that she put that, that, that happens to be behind her selfie- Oh. Uh-huh... and that kind of stuff.
12:57
Right And she thinks it's funnier than shit, so I don't know. I, I don't know.
13:02
Well, you know- But lately she's- I'm on a quest, actually, to have an all-female podcast where the women of cycling can clarify what the problem is and offer solutions for the industry, which is, you know,
13:21
we're in the m- industry. Mm-hmm. I'm just a dumb man. I- Yeah... I, I- Men, men of a certain age just haven't been learned that stuff yet. I, I need guidance, so you know.
13:31
I, I agree 100% because I come from a little bit different angle. We ran the Midwest Point Series for 10 years- Mm-hmm...
13:41
in the '90s, and we listened to what all the female riders said, and we did anything they would ask. It w- we were all working together to try to increase the numbers. You know, we...
13:52
And this was, and here's the difference. Sorry. Um, it's, it was mountain biking. Mm-hmm. It wasn't sanctioned. It was us making our own rules. We...
14:05
But we used them throughout the whole Midwest, but we also did whatever we could do in order to improve it for them. We made the courses the same length. We made the courses shorter. We gave them a separate start time.
14:18
We gave them a separate starting place. We put them in with the guys, 'cause they asked to be put back in with the guys. We made sure that they got the same money as the guys, paid back down accordingly.
14:27
That's important. And for the most part, they worked with us, we worked with them. Our numbers fluctuated, but they never jumped at any...
14:37
Anything we ever did for an entire season to help increase our numbers and carried it over to the next season never really worked. I mean, it, it...
14:49
We got a few more girls to race or maybe, and then two years later we had less. I mean, you know. Yeah. And we just never really came up.
14:56
So yeah, if you guys get something going where they could discuss it, I really agree with you guys that I think we could find a way to get more racing. I'm not sold [laughs] that that's going to happen. Yeah.
15:07
'Cause I've been doing this now for, well, we've been doing the time trials for 26 years, and our numbers have fluctuated, but we've never, they've never equaled the number of guys or even gotten close to that number.
15:19
So I'm not, I'm not saying that- Have you ever, have you ever tried Greek yogurt? Because they all seem to like that Greek yogurt. [laughs] Just saying.
15:27
I, I understand, I understand that the racing, especially the time trials, the racing against Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota guys, not any real reason for me to go to those races if you think about it from that standpoint.
15:38
Yeah. So is it, is it just more of a, um, lack of, um, competitive, uh, drive or, you know, w- what do... I, I guess we should probably let the, [laughs] let the new show talk about this if we can get it going.
15:52
Yeah, the ladies. I, I think that- Yeah... the, the... We're trying to find somebody to quarterback this thing and, uh, and take some ownership of it. So, uh, I'll let you know how that goes, Chewy.
16:03
So on a completely- I feel like that'd even be a great deal. I really do... on a, on a really, on a, on a...
16:09
Well, let's, let's turn 572 degrees to the west and, uh, and I'm still a little unclear on the whether we can really talk about the imaginary Pugsley World Championships or not. Uh, but
16:23
I feel like I, I just spilled the beans, didn't I? Well, the only thing the IPWC [laughs] board will allow me to speak to right now- Right... is that, yes, it will happen this year. Mm-hmm.
16:39
The date hasn't been set, and it will be, because it's a world championship- Oh... it is going to be, it is going to be a qualifier to get into it. Oh, very cool. That's all that we can really say at this moment.
16:50
Is it- So- Isn't that the same weekend as Frostbike? [laughs] Yeah. Oh. [laughs] Hey, so back here on Earth in a little place called Iowa, people raced bikes in the pissing rain. How'd that go?
17:06
Um, actually it was really good. Um, it was the 26th annual. It's, kind of hit, I would say, a plateau. Um, it, it was miserable out there, to be honest with you, but we still had a good number of people show up to race.
17:21
Um, with all the other stuff going on, there was a hard mountain gravel road race just up the road a little bit. Uh, the next day was, I think, the Minnesota's Point Series first race.
17:29
Um, you know, it's always through us, so it's not like we're gonna drag anybody from Colorado, but we had a good showing. All the usual fast guys were there. Uh, people had fun it seemed like.
17:42
The race went off without a hitch 'cause they have so many good... I mean, people have been doing this for 15, 20 years.
17:47
It's, they don't, they just go out there and walk through their, their specific jobs in the course and everything goes slick. It's, it was, it was good. Um, you know, our numbers are down.
17:57
We usually get about 100 riders and we were about 65, but like I said, we still had fast guys. Brian Ferman turned in a time, he won overall male, and he turned in a time of, like, an hour and four minutes.
18:09
And I was hoping, I wanted the course longer this year, I made it 11 miles, um, but I wanted to make sure that the faster guys were out there for at least an hour, and I damn near screwed up.
18:19
Even in that shitty, pissy, rainy weather we had, and it started raining at 10:00. It started raining at, at registration. Right. So the people that went out last- They were slipping, sliding pretty good.
18:29
However, I will say this- How many, how many feet did you manage to, uh, get in of climbing on it? Do you know? It was, it... Well, okay, two things. This is a, this is a Captain course.
18:39
This is a Lee Allen design, and you know, there's, there's, there's, the course is always, as always, the path of least resistance.
18:46
[laughs] So it's probably the least amount of climbing [laughs] That's the least amount of climbing- The least amount-... of the least resistance. Holy crap. Holy crap.
18:53
We had to- Lee is the only guy that I know that can go from the, from the river trail to the top of Ampenias and go downhill the whole way.
18:58
[laughs] So on our, uh, on our Friday ride- So there was, there was about 2,900 feet in climbing, so it's about the same. Um, this, the climbs are a little more gradual.
19:08
We didn't, we didn't turn and shove you straight up Randy's or anything or some of the steeper climbs. We did some running around. Everybody seemed to love the course. Um, it, uh, like I say, it rained.
19:19
We went through Death Valley twice. Gomez, you were there. You know what Death Valley's like. Death Valley was, uh- It was a party, dude...
19:27
this race has been, yeah, this race has been pretty serious up until a few years ago when we started doing... Okay, let's put five years ago because you still have the picture of, of, um, Spinner body slamming [laughs]
19:42
Mike Rice. Oh, that Dave, Dave Lunz, yeah. Yep.
19:43
That was, that came up, that was five years ago, so I think that was the first year the party took, and it was kind of discouraged everybody that was racing serious, said, "Ooh, this is horrible out there."
19:53
Now like, like on this weekend, O'Gara set this up. He's got a bonfire going. He's cooking hamburgers out there. There's two tents. You come by it twice now the way we did the course this year, and
20:05
the people that I talked to that, a couple guys from town here from Rochester that were down for the race, first time they'd ever been to Decorah racing or riding. Mm-hmm.
20:13
And they said you could hear those guys hooting and hollering, and they cheered them through every time they went by. And they said, "Made it worth the trip out."
20:20
Those guys made it, that miserable climb and that miserable downhill and just made it all worthwhile because they're out there cheering you on. So it went from being a problem for our party pit to being
20:33
the, the best- [laughs] The problem party pit... thing the group has ever had out there. Yeah, cool. Yeah, Decorah is just- It is, uh-... unbelievable. They, they have, they have great breweries.
20:42
They have awesome trails. They have Gunner. O'Gara, Shockey. We got Gunner. Yeah, I saw a nice picture of Gunner- Gunner... all, all, all, all mudded up from, from post-race picture action.
20:53
Do you know Gutter, Gutter has a fat bike? Yeah, I saw something. Gunner bought a fat bike. I'm, he, I'm his Facebook buddy now. Nice. And he actually posted- Oh, really? Yeah, yeah. I had no idea he was on Facebook.
21:04
Facebookers. I- It's like... yeah, he, well, he's, I think his daughter made him do it. You know, he's got a daughter that's like 11 or 12 now, and so she's taking him into the real world now I think. Nice.
21:16
Well, he, uh- But, yeah, he's got a bike-... he's one of those guys where, where you go to town and Gunner's almost always up for a ride.
21:24
Oh, yeah, and, and he, and he, you know, he, here's my, here's my favorite way to explain Gunner as a bike rider. He's got like the loosest hips ever, and you put him on anything. I don't care what kind of bike it is.
21:35
He was riding an old stump jumper that somebody gave him with a blown-out shock, and the, the, the f- the wheels on his, um, rear derailer had been wore down so much that if you touched them they were like spikes. Yeah.
21:49
And this guy, nobody could catch him. He was the, like maybe the second fastest guy in Decorah at the time. Yeah. And he was riding this piece of crap, and the bike would just float underneath him. His body never moves.
21:59
The bike is just all over the place, and he just flies through it. He's just a, he's an amazing guy to ride. And he'll take you for a bike ride, he'll take you out to play Frisbee golf. Yep, did a lot of golf with him.
22:09
He's into global golf and- I remember one of my first rides with him like, oh, when, pr- at least 20 years ago, it was, there was a lot less trails back then, and this, I forget the name of the trail, but it was, he'd come to a spot, he goes, "You might want to watch this spot.
22:22
It's a right turn." And it's like I look over and it's like 150 feet down a cliff. I go, [laughs] "Hey, thanks for warning me about that 'cause, uh, that's a pretty tough turn right there."
22:33
I forget what the, what the park- Is that off of Back Bone? It was, it was, mm, I forget what the name of the park was. It's one that I haven't been on since then I don't think.
22:41
But anyway, it was just like- Oh, over, over in Pal- maybe over in Palisades. Yeah, I think so. We don't, we don't do m- Pal- yeah, Palisades has just got a loop now, so we really don't ride Palisades a lot.
22:51
Although Captain's talking about doing a night race strictly on Palisades. Oh, yeah, this was at night, too. So that don't keep you closer than that. [laughs] This was definitely at night. So I think, yeah, yeah.
22:59
For sure. So- There sure were a lot of crampi on Friday's, uh, course marking race ride thingy. [laughs] That, um, I think the Krampus is...
23:15
Well, okay, so if you're looking for where you should ride a Krampus- Yeah...
23:18
other than out west, I think out west the Krampus works great also, but I think the conditions there and the terrain that Decorah has, Krampus was r- almost made for that area I think.
23:30
It, the, it, I, that's the one bike I take down there. Every now and then I'll take my Bucks and down to ride it, too. Yeah. But just about every time I go down there to ride I take my Krampus. It's just...
23:38
And then I was watching guys come through there, and guys that are fairly fast were flying and rocking it and big smiles on their face, and the only reason you couldn't tell the guys that were on true fat bikes that they were smiling is because the tires threw up just a little bit more mud- Oh, yeah...
23:54
and you couldn't see their teeth anymore. Oh, yeah. [laughs] Well, all right. So, um, do you want to stay with us, or do you have to go, Chewy? If, if you stay- No, I can stick around. I'm just actually drinking. Okay.
24:09
Nice. Well, you could go head-to-head with Brian Ferman's brother, Dan, about fat bikes a little later. In our special segment this evening, ladies and gentlemen, we'll host a debate series entitled Point Counterpoint.
24:18
This week's topic of debate, fat bikes. Ready for that, Chew? Ooh, this could get ugly. Yeah. [laughs] That's Bri- Brian's brother, Dan. We'll, we'll, we'll have that, uh, we'll have that bleep button ready.
24:32
So thanks for dropping so much knowledge on us, Chewy. We're gonna, uh, take a little break here, let the dogs out. [laughs] Who let the dogs out? [laughs] It's time for a break, ladies and gentlemen.
24:42
That, that's our fucking neighbor kids playing in my yard again. [laughs] Damn kids, get off my grass. Get out the pellet gun. [laughs] All right, we'll be right back. And we're on break. Yeah.
25:00
You're on break? Yeah. Be easy, guys. Don't hurt yourself. Right. [laughs] [sighs] Hey, we basically could come back whenever we want. Right when we want. That's our show. That's our show. Mm, thanks. Right.
25:12
[laughs] This, this is when we burp and fart and stuff. Nice. I could open a beer. Oh, sometimes we do that live too. I'm gonna do it with a hockey stick. [laughs] I'm gonna do it with a hockey stick one instead.
25:25
I'll have another Pinner there, please. Sir, thank you. Do you like the Pinner? Um, if I'm gonna throw back a few, yeah, 'cause it's a little lower in the, uh, alcohoozy neighborhood.
25:38
Have you had the, uh, Death by Coconut? New. Really? It's, uh, it's kind of... The microbreweries around here, it's kind of a thing they're all doing.
25:48
Most of them are doing a stout with a coconut, but, um, but, um, Oscar Blue's Death by Coconut fucking kicks ass. Oh. That's all there is to it. All right. Well- All right... comes highly recommended, obviously. So.
25:59
There you go. And, uh, coming out of break and a beer testimonial from, uh, the one and only Chewy. We're rolling right into that Fatty Farm Field Report.
26:12
Yeah, man, the Fatty Farm Field Report is brought to you by Quiring Cycles. Acquiring Triple B is the fattest ride on two wheels, featuring the next generation of 5.05 tires.
26:24
Visit quiringcycles.net to see the next level of bicycle exploration. Let's start the FFFR- With a question from one of our readers, Jared Caber from Coloradi.
26:41
He, he writes to, uh- [laughs] He writes... Now, what does he say? [laughs] Gomez. Gomez? Yeah. "I'm thinking about putting a Lauf Carbonara on my Time Mukluk." What? What?
26:54
"One thing I can't figure out is if I get it, will it work with my Kuat bike rack? Since the fork blades curve forward, I just wanna be sure it won't interfere with the front wheel holder on the rack.
27:06
Have you seen a Lauf Carbonara on a Kuat rack? I checked with Lauf, but they actually said to check with youse guys, as you have seen more things firsthand. Thanks, Jared."
27:19
Yeah, so apparently we're now customer service for Kuat racks and Lauf forks. And, uh, in that, uh, we, we, we did try to help this guy out, but our, our... We have a Kuat. Well, no, we don't.
27:33
We have a Kuat Enve, which is down in the whole birthplace of Adlai E. Stevenson, Libertyville, Illinois, down there in julio.com's garage.
27:41
And we also have one of those fancy Lauf Carbonara forks, but that's up with Kevin Bridenback about 2,500 miles as the crow flies up there in Bear Bike Supply.
27:50
So did you, like, did you, like, PayPal us some money to ship the fork down so we could check it out or anything like that? Uh, no. Hm. No. Hm. Uh, so I contact, I contacted Kuat, I contacted Lauf, I contacted...
28:04
And then I put him with the guys at Borealis, 'cause Borealis is a Lauf dealer. They didn't have a Kuat rack. Um, and uh, it turned out that he contacted our old friend JP Lamere.
28:16
Our old friend and cosmonaut- And, um-... JP Lamere... and Show 100 standout guest. [laughs] Indeed. And, uh, apparently it works. After all that kerfuffle- [laughs]... he could've just talked to JP. There you go.
28:30
That's our... He should be their customer service now. I just reached out in, I reached out all over the world, and, uh, JP Lamere had the answer. Who knew? Who knew? But it works, so there you go.
28:44
That's, that's the, uh, that's the end game. Of, of our customer [laughs] service, uh- Put a Lauf in your Kuat and smoke it. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, man.
28:58
Well, we, uh, we had a little check-in from our Fatbassador Travis up there in Anchorage, although, uh, he's actually in Mount Rainier in Washington now and was hoping to call in, but he didn't have any cell service up there.
29:10
But he did send in our first Washington weed report. Nice.
29:14
He was, uh, he stopped at a, at a retail store there, legal in the state of Washington, and picked himself up a small bag of, uh, what he says is, "Really good weed." Really? Did he get the Girl Scout cookie?
29:26
I don't know. Maybe. I don't know. Well- He didn't, he didn't put down a name. We do, w- we, we need a, uh, a form to fill out for, uh, taste- [laughs]... and smell and head, head trippy thing or whatever. Yeah.
29:39
So that's, that's neato. Neato. Washington. Burrito. I've been to, I went to [laughs] a weed store there. It was just in an old house. It was weird. There's a, there's a guy down on the east side of Milwaukee here.
29:50
His name is actually Dude. Dude. [laughs] Dude. Dude has the prime location for whenever the dispensaries, uh, uh, show up here in- [laughs] When we get rid-... in Wisconsin... of Scott Walker. I think the...
30:00
I would think that those guys are all for it, because we can raise money. Raise money to pay for stuff. Who knows? I'll be, like, surprised if we can't get this passed within, like, two years. All right. Yeah. Maybe.
30:14
[laughs] You got my vote. But you heard it here first. Right? [laughs] Yeah. Well, last... Well, Le- Travis sent us a gnarly photo of a large puncture last week, too. Uh, I know our own Mr.
30:23
Jim has repaired a lot of big punctures with car vulcanizing kits and stuff like that. I repaired one. Did you? Yeah. Did it work? It, it still bulges though. Okay. I didn't sew it.
30:34
Right, and that's what- That was the thing... uh, somebody named Michael, uh, left a, a comment on last week's post that's quite lengthy, but stitching the hole closed is one of the things he was talking about. Right.
30:43
Apparently he's, uh, he's the Bubba of Alaska- [laughs]... or wherever he lives, 'cause he's done this- Oh, boy... at least eight times to large sidewall cuts and- Wow
30:52
So it's basically sew it shut and use a vulcanizing kit, but there's- [laughs]... there's a lot more there. I, you know- Stop riding your, your bike in the Nam with the punji sticks there, Michael.
31:02
Ride on the beach- That's-... or a trail or something. Or maybe he rides over live Alaskan brown bears and they maul his tires maybe. Could be.
31:14
So just when you thought that you couldn't ever adjust your, your,
31:22
your tire pressure on the fly from the rider cockpit up or down without the use of a large CO2 canister, comes along whitecrow-tech.com. Hey- Ba, ba-da, ba, ba...
31:36
I would've thought for a fat biker that would be like the, the Holy Grail if you could just do it without any additional effort and/or weight to be able to change your tire pressure when you're going on the beach or back on the transition, but- We seek the Grail...
31:49
I don't do [laughs] Hey, just- Oh... just, just, uh, just check out this, uh, Chris King has a, there's a petition out there. Yeah. What- Yeah. Uh, you know what?
32:00
To, to urge- Chris King doesn't wanna make, make hubs that fit my bike, there are plenty other people making hubs that fit my bike. So somebody's started a, not Chris King, somebody else- [laughs]...
32:10
started a pet- a petition to- Some cant that every other one of his bikes has Chris King hub and he, you know, "Please make me a fat bike hub." Hey, here's- Maybe if I get some other people to sign their name. Maybe.
32:26
[laughs] I wished him luck. Never. I was like, "Hey, good luck there." Except I said it in Spanish, which sounds real, real romantic-like. Nice... buenas suerte. Hey, get, catch this out here.
32:40
Last Monday the, uh, registration opened for the Fat Bike Birki. Nice. That's like, what, nine months away? It's gonna be March 11th, 2017. That means you can pay your registration in 2016 money
32:55
all the way out there in 2017, so you can play the international market and if the, if the dollar, if the dollar goes down, you just made yourself a hell of an investment.
33:06
So, you know, in the plus bike news part here- Yeah... I was thinking of Chewy when I saw this in Bicycle Retailer today. Oh, yeah. [laughs] Chewy, did you, did you just happen to see this yet?
33:17
Um, plus bike- I won't get it until tomorrow. I live in the black hole. Oh, okay. Well, here's the deal. My mail's, my mail's a day late. Okay.
33:23
You know that there's the boost thing, the 110, 148 for plus bikes, which has been around for over a year now. Great, yep.
33:29
But, but now the news that, now the news from Sea Otter is plus bikes spread to new wheel size and hub standard. Now it will be a 141 quick release rear axle spacing rather than a boost 148 through axle.
33:42
More things that don't work with every other bike you have.
33:47
I was just gonna say, we just, we're gonna have to go to the Interbike and just grab all these nerds and put them in a corner and beat the piss out of them and say, "One standard, leave it alone."
33:57
[laughs] I just- Do people forget that these are bicycles and we just wanna ride them? We don't wanna think all the time. Yeah. The, what's with the metric system? What, what is, what are you [laughs]
34:09
what is the, what is it even a, what is a centimeter? [laughs] What does that mean? Yeah. That's why I'm pissed off at Surly. I bought the, I bought the Tractor- Yeah... um, Moonlander- Yeah...
34:21
thinking it was all gonna be American, and it's not. Oh. Oh. Bastards. It's got the, it's got the American color. Why not?
34:30
And I thought, "Oh great, they made one and it's got all, it's gonna have all standard bolts and stuff on it." Nope, it's still all metric. Oh. It's just painted cool. Here's a little, here's the- Cable...
34:39
we were gonna do a for real about this is remember back, I don't know, three, three and a half years ago, the owner of Ku said, "Oh, hey, we're gonna, we're, we're gonna bring some manufacturing back in the great old US of A.
34:54
We're gonna start making bikes in America." That was before he stepped down as, as CEO, though. [laughs] Did that happen? Did I miss that? Did I miss that? There's plenty of good bikes.
35:11
No, they just sent everybody from over there to do the work. Oh. Well, I heard Taiwan's very nice- Yeah... this time of year. Our, our quest to make bikes in the United States has, has kinda gone by the wayside.
35:25
Yeah, it doesn't seem like anybody can stay in business anymore. Well- It's like, oh, man...
35:28
you know, when, when Tom, when Tom Teasdale passed away that was obviously a big blow, 'cause he was one of the, the great American builders.
35:35
And then, you know, we tried to do a few over there with Zen over in Portland, another... Did a great job. Couldn't stay in business. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Guess who else can't stay in business? I don't know. [laughs] So.
35:48
Hey, in plus bike news- Hey... wolverines are still the future of back- [laughs] back country search and rescue. Just, you know- Yeah... wear a, wear a goalie's mask. When- Speaking of wolverines- Yeah...
35:59
Anna, I think Anna Schwinn's a badger. Badger, badger, badger, badger, mushroom. Mushroom. Mushroom. Yeah. Uh, sorry. [laughs] Flashback. Hey. Hey. E-bikes in the pro peloton. Wow.
36:15
Had you, did you, uh, fluoroscope any of the bikes there at the De- De Kora time trials to look for battery operated devices, Chewy? Well, we ran them through the, we ran them through the fire pit. Oh.
36:28
Figured we'd just fry the wiring to them and that would take care of them. We would just, just disarm them. Or maybe that's- So they had no problem... that's like turbo charging or something. Yeah.
36:37
Besides, it's the Midwest. Nobody can run that stuff 'cause it all shorts out. Oh. Anything electric doesn't work here. Oh, that's- Remember, uh, m- in Down Under Cross the first time, there was electronic shifting. Oh.
36:49
And Cindy Whitehead and, and Nevan Over were running it. Um, I can't remember who made it.
36:55
They, they, that was the first single-speed race, [laughs] 'cause they went through the first crick and it shorted out- Oh, man...
37:01
and they couldn't shift the rest of the race [laughs] Was that that, was that that Brown automatic transmission? That's what it was, yeah. It was a Brown, it was a Brown automatic shift, yeah.
37:10
It had a little wire that came from your handlebars down to- Right, right... the, the, the battery pack around the front derailleur, and it didn't work. [laughs] First crick, it shorted out.
37:22
Well- Shimano took that idea and ran with it 20-some years later Now they have Di, Di2 or now they have Bluetooth shifting. You can just, like, think, "Oh, this, this is a little uncomfortable."
37:37
And- The, the raindrops won't short out the Bluetooth, maybe Click, click, my tears activate the shift module. [laughs] Wah, this hill is too hard.
37:50
So you said- I'm so much happier with the fact that you go faster, pedal faster Oh, there is that. So you said you s- you've been seeing a lot of fat bikes for sale there, Sven.
38:00
Oh, just, you know, checking out the internet for stories.
38:03
There's a lot of, uh, [laughs] a lot of Craigslist listings for fat bikes from, from your basic, uh, Mongoose up to your, uh, your kinda people upgrading even more from their Surlys and whatever.
38:16
It's probably a good time if you're looking for a fat bike, find one at a pretty good price. Dang. Or you could go to your dealer. Do you, uh, do you see one more m- than the other? One more- Is there a,
38:28
one, a, a, a certain, um, maybe let's go two different ways. Is there a certain age of them that you see more of, or a certain, like, wheel size that they're selling more of, or a certain brand?
38:39
No, I see- I've seen a certain brand that's out there a lot... I see more of the, um, the lower-end ones. So it's not just, you know, it's like the, the Mongoose and the, um, uh, what is that? What is that other one?
38:54
Uh, well, anyway, uh- Oh, the, uh, the Walmart one? Well, that one, but then there's, there's ones that come from an online retailer that are also, uh, Mongoose. Re- They're a little bit s- sorta higher Motobecane? Oh.
39:09
Oh, Motobecane. Oh, Mo- That's it. They're not Mongoose... Motobecane, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because I, because even though I expected that to happen with the frames, I haven't seen hardly any frames for sale.
39:19
No, I think you still gotta monkey around too much with parts what with all the standards they have. I think you'd, you'd gotta buy a complete fat bike ready to ride instead of- No, no, no, Framed.
39:27
The, the bike company- Oh, Framed... out of Minneapolis, that Framed. Oh, right, right. Right, right. I, that was one I expected to see a lot of for sale, and I haven't. People love their Framed.
39:36
Yeah, and they, they only had the basic, well, I guess they still do sell the basic model, but now they, uh, they have, they have a carbon bike. They have a alum- hydro-formed aluminum bike. And, uh- Yeah...
39:49
according to our reviews on this, uh, this fatbike.com mic thinger we do, uh, those bikes kick ass. Yeah, I know. We got a 27 plus version going out to Dustin, Utah for testing. Yeah.
40:05
We're, we're testing a KTM fat bike later in the month as well. I hope it comes with the, well, I have a Husqvarna chainsaw. Is that orange? It is orange. Hmm. So I think that, uh,
40:19
somehow I wanna hook that up so I can have, like, a E two-cycle chainsaw bike. Jerak- KTM/Husqvarna- Yeah... muskrat love bike? Mm-hmm. That's what I'm thinking. So, uh, are you ready to debate?
40:37
Have, do we- Yeah... have anybody on the line? I might have to- We have one, we have one debater and the Chewy on the line. Really? Yep. Let me see if I can get Mr. Ferman. Mr.
40:47
Ferman actually has a really good idea, but he's, he's, uh- That's just scary What's really scary is how much that Brian and Dan talk like each other. It's freaky. Okay, so I'll be excused if I call him Brian?
41:03
Yeah, you, you could call him whatever you want. Dan, Brian, Ferman. So, so we know that Brian won the time trials. Uh, how'd the rest of that shake out? Good.
41:14
Um, I don't know if you guys have met her, but Josie Smith won the women's division. Oh, yeah? And, uh, she's just barely a year into mountain bike racing. Wow. She works at a bike shop, so.
41:25
But it also kind of pisses, yeah, I know it. And the guy, and she dates a guy, so they're like, he lets her go out and ride. It's kinda not fair, I think, if you ask me.
41:32
I think it's almost, it's almost like putting a motor on your bike. It's cheating if you ask me. [laughs] I made sure I told her that, too, and I gave her the money, being an [censored].
41:40
[laughs] So I know you were, uh, you were lungs free for this particular version of the time trial.
41:45
We had the, uh, the sign-up for the River West 24 was Saturday, so you didn't think you could make it back, 'cause it's, it's a lottery now. You can't just wait in line and, and get your, uh, get your entry.
41:57
But, uh, are, are you gonna come and be on the team this year for the River West 24? Yep. Yep, Sven and I are coming, yes. I think you're gonna have a great old time. [laughs] Is it true we're racing cargo bikes?
42:10
Uh, I don't know what the, I'm not actually on the team.
42:13
I'm only team photographer now, 'cause I said if I ever did a fifth year, I'd have to be the guy that gets the tattoo, and I'm not quite ready to mark up my body yet. So I'd just be team photographer.
42:23
You don't have any tattoos?
42:24
Well, I got one where a pencil poked me in the leg way back in the day, which, uh, which actually got me to thinking about a website called penciltattoo.com, which would be so awesome, because, you know, I think everybody's stabbed themselves with a pencil at one point or another.
42:38
Except for me. Oh, it was a thing we did back in school. I have two in the back of my- Back of your what? In, in my ass crack. [laughs] Just above my ass crack where the triple K-
42:47
Is that 'cause you- Like, as hairy as I am, you can't tell where they're at. [laughs] Was that, was that on purpose, or did you just bury them in your back pocket?
42:55
No, that was, that was a thing when I was in grade school. Honest to God, guys would run around and just-... poke the piss out of each other with pencils. [laughs] How bad is that?
43:06
All right, I think we have, we have debater number two, Mr. Dan Fuhrman on the line. Hi, Dan. Hey. Dan Fuhrman. How's it going, dude? It's good. You guys hear me? I can totally hear you.
43:24
And either your dog or Chewy's dog, one or the other. [laughs] My dog. See, I was gonna bring him to the door here. [laughs] So, uh- Goddamn neighbor kids are in the yard again...
43:32
Dan has come up with a really interesting new idea for funding trail projects, uh, for a set of trails that he's been instrumental in creating down near, uh, his shop in, uh, near, near Rolla, Missouri and St.
43:46
James, Missouri. It's called Forest City, right, Dan? Yeah, Forest City Mountain Bike Trail, that's correct. That's in St. James and the shop's in Rolla. Right on. Right on. Come on.
43:57
And Dan, Dan owns Route 66 Bikes, and is, uh, the brother we were just talking about, the winner of the Decorah Time Trial, your bro, uh- Brother Brian... Brian won that race that Chewy and I were at last weekend.
44:10
He won it this year? Yeah. Oh, good for him. Man, I tell you, man, that kid's going places, you know it? [laughs] He moved, he moved to Decorah too. He moved and he doesn't ever compete because he's so fast, he's-
44:24
Oh, he, he doesn't have to make that 10-mile drive from down the road anymore? [laughs] He's probably faster than the other human males. Yeah. So tell us, tell us about- You know-...
44:30
th- this, uh, this idea of yours, Dan. Hope I interrupted. You know, I ran it, I ran it by some of my friends. They all loved it, so you know, it was just, I, it's just one of those ones you get while riding, you know?
44:44
And, uh, I just, s- I saw people like crowdfunding this and that, and I'm like, man, you know, we kinda wanted some of that, that mountain bike playground equipment that you see out there. And, you know, it's, it's...
44:59
People say it's better to buy it than build it, 'cause you got an extra layer of liability built in there, so, uh, I thought, man, let's crowdfund it.
45:08
[laughs] People, I mean, I threw, I threw something out there on our Facebook about it- Mm-hmm... just like, "Hey, what do you think of this?" And it just, it went huge. I said,
45:18
you know, "Hey, if, if we can get 100 likes, I'll start a crowdfunding campaign," and we got, like, 200. Wow. So people obviously wanted it, so I took a week just to go on it, built me a little, uh, page on my, uh,
45:35
on my, like, kind of a secret link on my shop's website- Mm-hmm... and, uh, there you go. Yeah, you shared that with me, and it's kinda like,
45:44
do you want a teeter-totter or do you want a ladder bridge or do you want a rollercoaster-y, all manmade functions, and you can vote with your funding. You can fund a teeter-totter- Yeah...
45:57
if that's what you want, and then when, when that feature is funded, the materials are bought, it gets built, and bam. I mean, that's, that's just, uh, it's brilliant. I love that. It's like a, a good idea.
46:10
And, uh- Well, you know, you think about it, man, it's like there are so many mountain bikers out there that, I mean, dude, let's face it, we're all weekend warriors, you know? And weekend comes, you wanna ride. Mm-hmm.
46:26
You don't wanna dig. Some people wanna dig, but not a lot. But there are a heck of a lot of people out there that would gladly give money in exchange for digging. Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah.
46:39
You know, so I thought, well, that's the target audience here is people that would rather just kinda vote with their dollars and say, you know, "Hey, man, I c- I'm contributing to the trails with my money- Right...
46:51
not my time." Right. And you've given them the, an, an easy, WYSIWYG click to win [laughs] kind of things, and that's, that's what, that's what the, that's what the folks in the cubicles need.
47:05
And I rode the trails- I did... that, that are down there at Forest City. You, you told me- Yeah. [laughs]... "Yeah, go to Berryman, try out these trails." I was like, "Damn, these are nice."
47:15
And they're gonna get better. So, uh, what, what's the trail mileage now, and how many miles are in your master plan when you have it all built up?
47:26
Oh, man, you know, we really only have, like, a couple hundred acres to work with there, so it's packed in pretty tight already. Um,
47:36
I think more playground equipment, like what we're, uh, like what we're buying now is, uh, maybe in the future. Mm-hmm. Uh, just enhancing. You know, we sell, uh... The first thing we did, we kinda
47:51
stole a little T-shirt design from our friends over at Trek and kinda customized it to our own sort of, uh- Mm-hmm... clientele, and, uh, we decided to make that. See, I've never done soft goods in my shop, man.
48:06
I've never done anything other than cycling-specific stuff. Right. So I thought, well, if I'm gonna do soft goods, I'm gonna make it a fundraiser for, like, maintenance and enhancements at the trail.
48:18
So every T-shirt we sell puts 10 bucks into the old, uh, cigar box for, uh- Nice... you know, for buying weed eaters and chainsaws and stuff like that to, to keep the trails looking good. He said eaters.
48:32
[laughs] I thought you were talking about buying weed. [laughs] But we digress. Mm-hmm. Oh, I'm sorry. Do, do you Northerners have a, a, a different, uh, dialect that you use to describe weed eaters?
48:45
No, you're just, you're just talking to a bunch of stoners. [laughs] We ca- we, we call them string trimmers up here- Yeah. [laughs]... so, so as not to con- confuse them with edibles. String trimmers.
48:53
[laughs] Otherwise they're edibles and, uh, yeah, so. I was gonna say, you guys call water fountains bubblers too, which nobody gets that. Well, it's only 'cause Kohler made the, the brand name Bubbler.
49:05
It's like using a Kleenex to blow your nose. Do you call it a facial tissue? No, you call it a damn Kleenex. There you go. I go through a lot of facial tissue, but not on my face.
49:18
[laughs] So we have actually, do you, I don't know if you're familiar with, uh, in- internet superstar Chuey. Uh, we, we, we were thinking that, uh, we've set this up here as a point, counterpoint debate.
49:33
You on one side of the fat bike, you being anti-fat bike, and Chuey being pro-fat bike. So with that set up- Oh, is he, is- He's, he's on the line here. Chuey- He's on the line. Chuey's on the line...
49:47
say, say hello, Chuey. Oh, this is like a conference call. Yeah. It's like, it's like- We got high technology here. [laughs] It's like a party line. They can't even go visit them. That's their problem. All right.
49:58
So to start this out, uh, Dan, Gomez just says you have no love for fat bikes. What's up with that? So you can start on your point. Next question, sir.
50:07
[laughs] I got 100 bucks says he's got a fat bike sitting right next to him right now. [laughs] Oh, man. No, sir. I've got my Trek Superfly single speed sitting right next to me with,
50:26
uh, 29-inch wheels and, and, and, and, uh, normal-ish cross-country tires and, you know, it's, uh... Ooh, you hear that? Like- That is good, that is good shit, my friend.
50:40
[laughs] So like- I, I'd stop listening when he said- That is, that is 54 points of DT Swiss engagement coming at you live. They make fat bike hubs. Love it. [laughs] You know? Chris King doesn't, but DT does. Exactly.
50:56
[laughs] Well, all right. We're not gonna get you boys to like, to like scratch each other's eyes out or anything. I'm, I'm, I'm trying. [laughs] But you know, here's the problem. What?
51:07
You ever seen his brother ride a bike? He doesn't need a fat bike. He floats over everything as it is anyway. It, it- So he's really not the proper person to have this argument with. I know. I know.
51:16
Well, see, I was hoping Dan would say, "Fat bikes are only for old, slow, fat fucks like you, Gomez." I was, [laughs] and I'd be like, "That's right." [laughs] That's right.
51:31
Old, fat dudes need to have fun, too. And- I finally get it, man. He's, he's a clairvoyant. He really is, you know? [laughs] I get it now. I just know you, Dan.
51:44
I always wondered how he made his- [laughs] I always wondered how he made all his money. He's a fucking clairvoyant, man. That's right. I see the future. He is.
51:49
So, uh, uh, don't you have- That argument ended as soon as Dan said he was riding a single speed, because now I already know. Single speed fat bikes, who cares? You, you know the guy's a rock star. [laughs] Exactly.
52:00
Yeah. So don't you have, don't you have an old Farley there on the floor that you have, like, a super low, super price on? Uh, tell the people you wanna get rid of that thing. You want the, you want fat out of your shop?
52:14
Uh, you know, that was actually our demo bike. Yeah. And it sold us a few fatties. Um, but, uh, man, I don't know. It's just, uh, I, you know, I have a lot of thoughts about it, man.
52:29
You know, um, I'm sure that in your various, um, adventures at Berryman, you may or may not have cut a sidewall from time to time. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Um, that being a very common occurrence there.
52:43
Well, I feel like five more inches of sidewall just would lead to, like, way more sidewall cuts. And when you're running $150 tires, I don't feel like that's really helping anybody. But hey, I can say that, uh,
52:57
fat bikes are getting more people riding rigid. Mm-hmm. Sure. Which I think is a good thing, you know? Mm-hmm. Um, 'cause I feel like people are growing up these days never having had the pleasure of riding rigid.
53:14
[laughs] Right. Giggity. Um- Giggity. [laughs] All right. Uh- All right. Yeah. And, uh, you know, I feel like, uh, you know, people always ask me, like, "Man, should I try a rigid fork?"
53:29
And I was like, "Did you grow up riding suspension?" They're like, "Yeah." And I'm like, "No, you should not try a rigid fork."
53:35
'Cause it seems like everybody that's ridden suspension for a long time tries something rigid and they just cannot do it. Yeah. They're, they're not willing to run the tire low enough or whatever.
53:45
But hey, man, fat bikes started out rigid, you know? Right. Yeah.
53:51
I started riding fat from riding- I mean, how, how many years were they around since the first purple Pugsley until they finally put a fork on the front of one of them? What, like, probably eight years of rigid? Right.
54:01
Eight, nine years. Yeah. Yeah. And you really can't even put a suspension fork on a Pugsley now anyway. If they, if they even put a fork on a Pugsley, it was kicked out. Right.
54:07
Yeah, they would, they'll be like, "Nope, can't do that. Void your warranty." Nope, you shouldn't do that. Yeah, exactly. It'll...
54:12
And, uh, [laughs] and like, it just kind of boggles the mind, but hey, nobody wants to see just a fork connected to a head tube and jagged edges of your head and, or of your down and top tube. Nobody wants to see that,
54:29
'cause- Except for Spence... it's scary. Oh, you think- Yeah. I'm saying that, uh, they're saying that the, it's too weak. But now Ice Cream Truck and Wednesday can handle a fork. Right. Yeah.
54:44
Well, a Pugs- But we digress... a Pugsley was made for a sh- a much shorter axle to crown than, than you'd run on your shortest suspension fork. Right.
54:51
Just slacks it out so much, you're like- Hey, you guys are getting awfully, awfully technical here. Well- Can we talk about some oval chainrings or something? Yeah, no. We're, we're- [laughs]
55:01
I, okay, so here's the deal about that technical business. I noticed how the Fat Camp guys get so much more listeners than we do. I thought maybe we should sound smart for a while.
55:09
[laughs] Those Fat Camp guys, they, they're, they're like, I don't know. They probably have groupies. They probably have, like- I want a groupie.
55:19
Fat Camp, isn't that, isn't that the name of the place where you guys ride all the time? [laughs] That's where they sent me when I was a kid. Only in, only in September. [laughs] Oh my God.
55:31
So Dan is the owner of, uh- That's, that's just when the three of us get together. Yeah. So let me, let me- Herbert Gomez and I and, and Gregor Karkut. That's called Fat Camp. Yeah.
55:40
[laughs] So let me pimp Dan's shop a little bit. It's Route 66 Bikes in Rolla, Missouri. If you wanna really hear what Dan thinks about fat bikes and you're around the I-44 corridor on your way to Oklahoma-
55:58
44...
55:59
mm-hmm, so just drop in there and, uh, you know, make a bid on a teeter-totter and buy a, buy a T-shirt that'll, you know, put 10 bucks toward, toward their weed eaters or
56:17
Pulaskis or McClouds. Or a McLeod. Oh, I finally get that joke now. [laughs] Sorry. [laughs] And, uh, you know, buy yourself a trinket. Took, it took me this whole time. I know. But this, this is Brian's brother. I know.
56:34
[laughs] It's, it's- Yeah, it is... it's, it's just completely amazing how much they sound like each other, and they're both fricking- It's funny, it's funny... bloody fast on the bike, too. Bloody fast. Bloody fast.
56:47
Well, Dan, thanks for- Buddy... coming on our little program and en- enlightening our, our listener- Hey, listen... on how to raise money for weed eaters. Thank you. No, for, for, for mountain bike playground equipment.
57:03
Oh, yeah. That's it. That's what we're targeting. All right. Let me- Let me give you the link. You want the link? Yeah, the, uh, we'll have, we'll put this link in the show notes, but spit it out.
57:10
Let me, uh, see if it... I'm gonna do it right now, so, uh, let's see. Okay. He said I'd get the full, he said I'd get the full reach around, man. Hey. Go, go for the link. Hey.
57:20
I feel like, I feel like I'm entitled now, you know? [laughs] We're, we're, we're, we're putting this in so people will be able to click on it and- Like-... uh, and help you out, for sure. It's a great idea.
57:31
Like, like all cyclists, like all cyclists, I feel like I'm entitled. As well you should, sir. [laughs] Have you signed the petition to get Chris King to make a fat bike hub yet? [laughs] Yeah.
57:45
No, what's, what's the link, Dan? We'll put it in the show notes here. Uh, route66bicycles.com/get/rad_features. Not, um, I, I don't type that fast.
58:00
Route66bicycles.com/ - Underscore get rad features... get, E-T, E-T rad features? Yeah. Okay. I got a link on the homepage. All right, I'll, I'll find it. If you get to the homepage, go get it.
58:14
Uh, our Facebook page is, uh, MTB FCT, which stands for Mountain Bike Forest City Trail. Yeah. You can, you can, uh, you know, if you're, uh, inclined to be on the, uh, social media bandwagon.
58:27
You're Facebooking me, buddy. You're Facebooking me. [laughs] Facebooker. Hey, we're, we're doing our best, man, you know. All right. All right, Dan. Well, thanks for calling.
58:39
We're gonna shut this hummer down, 'cause we only got two minutes before JK's mom comes downstairs and says, "Hot Pockets are ready." [laughs] Beep, beep, beep.
58:50
And like I always say, man, like I always say, you're welcome, you know? [laughs] All right, Dan. All right, Dan. Take it easy. Have a good one. All right, b- Well.
59:01
[laughs] See how, see how we get Chewie to win the, we get Chewie to win the debate? I, I- We just cut, we just cut that guy right off. [laughs] Bye, Dan.
59:08
I thought you cut yourse- I thought you cut yourselves off too, and thought, "What the hell? Uh, my, I gotta close the show down now, man?"
59:13
[laughs] Well, you just get the, you just get the final word here on, uh, Jeopardy, Final Jeopardy. It's been a real trip. [laughs] Triptastic, fantastic, plastic. I don't know if I can handle this more than once a week.
59:29
Well, thank, thanks for being our, uh, our, our on-air, uh, uh, buddy the whole show. Some- sometimes we got Travis filling that role. It's kinda nice to have somebody just- Mm-hmm...
59:37
to bounce back to when there's nobody else to talk to, 'cause- Somebody said-... guess what? Here's the thing. Huh? This is the second show in a row that nobody else has called in and we haven't given our shit away yet.
59:46
Oh. Yeah. Maybe we, maybe we need to elaborate on what those th- Cooking Strat hoops? [laughs] We got, we got the Surly Rally sport package.
59:57
I got some kick-ass 1UP USA beer openers that I was supposed to give away at Decorah, but then- [laughs]... through, I don't know, Dane damage and et cetera, it was raining and la-la, those didn't get given away.
1:00:12
That's why I told you I had to use the hockey stick one tonight, 'cause I didn't get one of those. Oh. Oh. There's one attached to my new 1UP USA rack.
1:00:23
[laughs] Even though, you know, you never know when you're gonna wanna open a Fanta or a Diet 7UP or something, or one of your friend's beers. "Here, let me get that for you." Like that. You're such a guy.
1:00:39

Unless you wanna be. We ain't gonna be here next week. I was just- We could do it. We could... Let's, let's record live from that salsa demo. Oh, there you go.
