Latest / Salem Podcast Network / The M&M Experience - Lamenting the End of French Culture
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: This is personal to me. Our French club, that was
- 0:05Speaker 1: like 15 hopped up kids from Crossland High and Camp Springs, Maryland.
- 0:09Speaker 1: We went in 1975. And then our French teacher got
- 0:15Speaker 1: sick and was going to make the same trip with
- 0:17Speaker 1: his students. But I was already like a junior at college.
- 0:20Speaker 1: The phone rings in the dorm. And he says, Mark,
- 0:24Speaker 1: it's John and Kerry. Can you? Can you take the
- 0:27Speaker 1: kids to France? I said, I beg your pardon? I
- 0:29Speaker 1: got to– I'm 20, I guess. I got to be
- 0:32Speaker 1: a chaperone. There were others, thank God. And I took
- 0:36Speaker 1: a bunch of kids from the school where he taught.
- 0:39Speaker 1: So I've been– trips at least that I've made, been
- 0:42Speaker 1: there five or six times. And it's easy to bag
- 0:44Speaker 1: on France and politically deserve it. But the history, the beauty–
- 0:49Speaker 1: The culture, it's just, it's a gem in the crown
- 0:53Speaker 1: of the world. And to see it on fire breaks
- 0:55Speaker 1: my heart. And my byline today is that those images
- 0:59Speaker 1: are an ad for every Republican running in every corner
- 1:04Speaker 1: of America.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I'm just mystified at how everybody is lying about what's
- 1:08Speaker 2: actually taking place in the streets of France. Here's the
- 1:11Speaker 2: cover of the New York Post. And I'm holding it
- 1:13Speaker 2: up for you here if you're watching on X. And
- 1:15Speaker 2: we love to stream. M & M experience every day
- 1:19Speaker 2: on X at Gallagher or at my Gallagher.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Whoops. You flash that and I'll go retweet it and
- 1:25Speaker 1: people can do it.
- 1:26Speaker 2: So you can go, you can watch right now on X.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Follow me at Mike Gallagher. Of course, always follow Mark
- 1:31Speaker 2: at Mark Davis. And every day we stream live. Well,
- 1:35Speaker 2: actually we don't stream the video. Do we come to
- 1:37Speaker 2: think of it? Do we stream the video? I can't
- 1:39Speaker 2: look at it right now. Oh, okay. So we do
- 1:41Speaker 2: stream the video on, on X. Yeah. Oh, I thought–
- 1:44Speaker 2: I was thinking it was just audio. Okay.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I'm looking at you and me right now. We look good.
- 1:48Speaker 2: So here's the headline, New York Post. France burns more
- 1:52Speaker 2: than 1,800 arrested in radical left riots. Now, keep that
- 1:56Speaker 2: in mind. Radical left riots.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Synagogue ransacked. Synagogue.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yep.
- 2:02Speaker 2: They're targeting the Jews. We see, of course, red and
- 2:05Speaker 2: green Palestinian flags everywhere. Luxury goods stores are looted. But
- 2:10Speaker 2: then in the description, it says the following. French protests
- 2:15Speaker 2: over education and the cost of living.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Stop. Mark, the New York Post? The Post said this
- 2:23Speaker 1: in there?
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yes, the front page of the New York Post. Protests
- 2:27Speaker 2: over education and the cost of living. This isn't about
- 2:30Speaker 2: education or the cost of living. What the heck are
- 2:33Speaker 2: they talking about? Why is everybody lying about why these
- 2:38Speaker 2: rioters are burning down synagogues?
- 2:40Speaker 1: Because they have to. Because the truth would show you
- 2:43Speaker 1: that France is an example of of a country that
- 2:46Speaker 1: has not paid enough attention to its borders, not paid
- 2:48Speaker 1: enough attention to protecting its culture. They have allowed hordes
- 2:52Speaker 1: and floods of hostile migrants in with the obvious aim
- 2:57Speaker 1: of destroying French civilization, as they will do here, as
- 3:02Speaker 1: they are attempting to do here. It's just the beginning
- 3:05Speaker 1: ripples of it. You know, our cities are not all
- 3:08Speaker 1: aflame with Marxists and Islamists yet anymore. But they will
- 3:13Speaker 1: be if we are not attentive.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Well, you're so right. The reason I guess they're not
- 3:18Speaker 2: touching it is that it's all about the borders. Everything
- 3:22Speaker 2: is about everything Trump has been saying. And now he's
- 3:25Speaker 2: barnstorming the country.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yep.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Like the warrior he is with his supposedly, you know, 3%
- 3:32Speaker 2: approval rating.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Nobody likes him. He's up to three? I missed that.
- 3:36Speaker 2: He had a surge yesterday. It was 2.5%. Now he's
- 3:40Speaker 2: at 3% approval. Somehow all those people lining up for
- 3:45Speaker 2: hours and hours to get in to see him at
- 3:46Speaker 2: these stadiums, I guess they didn't get the memo. He's
- 3:49Speaker 2: very unpopular, right? I'm seeing all the smart kids doing
- 3:53Speaker 2: stories about how Republican candidates are distancing themselves from him.
- 3:58Speaker 2: He's so unpopular. He's so unpopular. And yet when he's
- 4:02Speaker 2: on the campaign trail for these candidates— He keeps saying,
- 4:05Speaker 2: you're watching France? You want that here? You want to
- 4:08Speaker 2: see what's going to happen here if we let them win?
- 4:11Speaker 2: And he is absolutely right. You know, I was thinking about,
- 4:14Speaker 2: I want to run Brit Hume's analysis by you, and
- 4:17Speaker 2: it applies to Texas, and Mr. TV star. Hollywood Davis
- 4:21Speaker 2: over here would be bouncing around from Will Kane to
- 4:24Speaker 2: Chris Cuomo. I mean, you're all things Texas politics. So
- 4:28Speaker 2: nobody is better equipped to react to Brit Hume's rather
- 4:33Speaker 2: nasty analysis claiming that, well, Tallarico seems like a pretty
- 4:38Speaker 2: nice guy. You know, Trump's attacks really aren't landing anywhere.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Trump insists on calling him Talafrico. And he just strikes
- 4:48Speaker 2: me as, you know, he's a seminary guy and he's
- 4:50Speaker 2: a nice person. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Did Britt go there? Britt went there. Let's talk about nice. No,
- 4:59Speaker 1: you finish your thing and then I'll break. I'll break
- 5:01Speaker 1: it to words mean things. Go ahead and finish.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Let me give you my analysis of why Britt Hume
- 5:05Speaker 2: just just gave Talafrico's campaign such a big gift. Why
- 5:10Speaker 2: Democrats are now salivating over Brit Hume. I saw the
- 5:13Speaker 2: headlines last night. Oh, long term Fox News, longtime Fox
- 5:17Speaker 2: News analyst throws, you know, a lifeline to the Tallarico campaign.
- 5:23Speaker 1: True.
- 5:24Speaker 2: These are Republican establishment types who loathe Trump's style and
- 5:29Speaker 2: they just wish he'd be more diplomatic.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Britt Hume wants Donald Trump to be more like George W.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Bush.
- 5:37Speaker 2: That's what they want. And Trump's never going to do that.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And frankly, we would be surprised if Trump didn't call
- 5:44Speaker 2: him Talafrico.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 5:46Speaker 2: I mean, but Britt Hume is surprised. The smart kids
- 5:49Speaker 2: never get over it. They can never get over it.
- 5:53Speaker 2: So if Britt Hume, OK, so words mean things. What
- 5:57Speaker 2: does Britt say? That he seems like a nice young man. Yes.
- 6:01Speaker 1: The definition of nice is affable, relatable, you know, smiling.
- 6:05Speaker 1: He's clean cut. Good for absolutely. But if I hear
- 6:09Speaker 1: one more person invoke that he's running on articles of
- 6:12Speaker 1: faith or evangelism or seminarianism.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:16Speaker 1: But what from church from what church? Because it sure
- 6:19Speaker 1: ain't Christianity. God's OK with abortion. Jesus is ambivalent. If
- 6:24Speaker 1: you chop your kid's genitals off.
- 6:25Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. But Brit
- 6:30Speaker 2: might be right in terms of that lands with people,
- 6:34Speaker 2: that he's a nice young man. Because that's all we
- 6:38Speaker 2: care about are optics. All we care about is the package.
- 6:41Speaker 2: All we care about is what does it look like.
- 6:43Speaker 2: We're TV folks. We love to see what the image is.
- 6:49Speaker 2: We don't care about substance or policy or ideology. We
- 6:53Speaker 2: care about how somebody comes across.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Oh.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Abdul El-Sayed was nice to me at LaGuardia. Nice guy.
- 6:59Speaker 1: He and Jesse Waters got a bromance on TV there
- 7:02Speaker 1: for a few minutes.
- 7:03Speaker 2: And so, you know, but then look, you've got to
- 7:06Speaker 2: look at what they stand for. Can James Tallarico get elected?
- 7:10Speaker 2: I watched Molly Hemingway last night on TV say, look,
- 7:14Speaker 2: Tallarico's policies wouldn't fly anywhere, much less Texas. She basically said— You.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Think he couldn't get elected in New York or California?
- 7:22Speaker 2: Well, maybe in a blue state. But what I think
- 7:24Speaker 2: her point was, if he was on the ticket in
- 7:28Speaker 2: any one of a number of American states— He wouldn't
- 7:32Speaker 2: get any traction at all. And she's saying Texas is
- 7:36Speaker 2: the last place he should be able to win.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Correct.
- 7:40Speaker 2: But, you know, and I agree with her. I mean,
- 7:42Speaker 2: I believe that. We're two weeks away. We're going to
- 7:46Speaker 2: find out. You know what it is?
- 7:48Speaker 1: Look, we know. We have brains. We have eyes. We
- 7:52Speaker 1: have ears. We have history. We know that an anti-gun, anti-meat,
- 7:56Speaker 1: anti-oil cheerleader for child sex change is We cannot win
- 8:01Speaker 1: in Texas. That's earth logic, as I'm fond of saying.
- 8:04Speaker 1: But yet, in this odd and riled up time... We wonder,
- 8:13Speaker 1: there's a little, and listen, I'm not immune to this,
- 8:15Speaker 1: because truly anything is possible. Is an amazing, strange shift
- 8:19Speaker 1: of the political winds possible? It's not impossible. It's thoroughly implausible.
- 8:25Speaker 1: We're just going to have to wait and see how
- 8:26Speaker 1: it goes and pray to God that Texas remains Texas
- 8:29Speaker 1: and the voters continue to do what they seem to
- 8:31Speaker 1: be in the mood to do. I mean, two years ago,
- 8:33Speaker 1: Ted Cruz easily dispatched Colin Allred. You know, two years ago,
- 8:37Speaker 1: Trump thumped Kamala Harris by 14. So there's no evidence
- 8:41Speaker 1: that Texas has changed. until that evidence hits us in
- 8:44Speaker 1: the head in two weeks, if it does, but I
- 8:46Speaker 1: don't believe that it will.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I had a real spiritual conversation with a colleague, actually
- 8:52Speaker 2: my boss, I don't mind sharing this. Phil Boyce and
- 8:55Speaker 2: I were talking this morning, as we often do, about
- 8:58Speaker 2: the business, the company, how things are going. Is there
- 9:01Speaker 2: a malaise with voters, with the audience? Are people just
- 9:06Speaker 2: kind of collectively holding their breath? And Phil pointed out,
- 9:10Speaker 2: And he's so right about this. He said, I had
- 9:11Speaker 2: to learn this, sometimes the hard way, that we've got
- 9:14Speaker 2: to have faith. We've got to have faith in God.
- 9:16Speaker 2: We've got to do our part. But sometimes challenging things happen,
- 9:21Speaker 2: and God tests us with anxiety, with maybe bad things
- 9:26Speaker 2: that have happened. I mean, we were talking a little
- 9:29Speaker 2: bit about the Dennis Prager time slot at Salem. I mean,
- 9:33Speaker 2: Dennis Prager has this catastrophic fall. Incidentally, Dennis is speaking now.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Did you see him in Miami a few days ago
- 9:42Speaker 1: as they wheeled him out and he held a crowd
- 9:45Speaker 1: in the palm of his hand?
- 9:46Speaker 2: Finish.
- 9:46Speaker 1: We'll talk about that in a second.
- 9:48Speaker 2: But finish.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Oh, it was a great speech. I cried, too.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I'm so sad. I was trying to get there and
- 9:53Speaker 2: I had something come up and I couldn't go. But
- 9:55Speaker 2: he said, look, you can't be a victim even when
- 9:58Speaker 2: you really are. You cannot. exhibit victimhood even when you're
- 10:02Speaker 2: a victim. And he goes, look, I fell and hit
- 10:04Speaker 2: my head against the bathtub, he said, and I broke
- 10:06Speaker 2: my neck and I'm a quadriplegic.
- 10:08Speaker 1: He said, I envy paraplegics. Because at least they have
- 10:11Speaker 1: the use of their arms and I don't. But you
- 10:13Speaker 1: know what? I'm breathing without a ventilator. I'm here talking
- 10:17Speaker 1: to you. I still have God. I still have my family.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I still have my brain. I still have my voice.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I mean, I can't tell the story right now.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I know. No, I know.
- 10:26Speaker 1: But your point is, make the point about that.
- 10:29Speaker 2: But it's a great point because bad things can happen
- 10:32Speaker 2: in our lives. And God, it's all God's will. And
- 10:35Speaker 2: we have to remember that. God already knows how the
- 10:38Speaker 2: midterms are going to turn out. He knows what's going
- 10:40Speaker 2: to happen after the midterms turn out, and we're going
- 10:43Speaker 2: to find out. But big things continue to happen politically.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I've got to take you to Ohio, Mark. Vivek Ramaswamy
- 10:52Speaker 2: is battling with Amy Acton. Have you heard about the
- 10:55Speaker 2: last ad that just dropped featuring Amy Acton's own mother?
- 10:59Speaker 1: Oh, where she says don't vote for my daughter?
- 11:02Speaker 2: Mark, I've got to play it. It's only 50 seconds.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Go.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Hit it.
- 11:04Speaker 3: My name is Donna Arthur, and I'm Amy Acton's mother.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I work at Children and Family Service Association, building one
- 11:15Speaker 3: of the first two sexual abuse programs in America. I
- 11:19Speaker 3: love my daughter, but when I saw her lying about
- 11:23Speaker 3: her opponent, it's not easy for a mother to say this,
- 11:27Speaker 3: but Amy has a serious problem. She is a liar.
- 11:31Speaker 3: She lies about her past. She says she grew up
- 11:35Speaker 3: living in a tent. None of that is true. She's
- 11:39Speaker 3: lied her entire life. My daughter needs help, and she
- 11:44Speaker 3: can't help you if she needs help herself. People can change,
- 11:49Speaker 3: but first they have to tell the truth. And my
- 11:52Speaker 3: daughter still isn't doing that. Don't vote for people who lie.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Don't let her become your governor. If you think she'll
- 12:00Speaker 3: make your life better, you're fooling yourself.
- 12:04Speaker 2: It will only get worse.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Good Lord.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I've been covering politics for nearly 50 years.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I've never seen anything like that.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I've never seen an ad like that in my life.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I'd love to be a fly on the wall at
- 12:14Speaker 1: Thanksgiving in that house.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Well, but look at what is that? Not the October surprise.
- 12:20Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 12:22Speaker 1: But it's funny because the other thing that does occur
- 12:24Speaker 1: to me, though, we've all had embittered family situations. And
- 12:27Speaker 1: I wonder if there's just some. bad blood of another
- 12:29Speaker 1: type working there with mom. Yeah, but that's a campaign ad.
- 12:32Speaker 1: To turn that into a campaign ad?
- 12:34Speaker 2: Don't vote. My daughter needs help. She's a chronic liar.
- 12:39Speaker 2: So please don't vote for people who lie to you.
- 12:41Speaker 2: That's going to win some votes for Vivek Ramaswamy.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Feeling good about Vivek.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I like his chances in Ohio after that ad. Holy moly.
- 12:51Speaker 2: And we wonder why people don't get into politics.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I can't imagine what's keeping anybody.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I can't imagine what would keep anybody from today's podcast
- 12:59Speaker 1: because just sitting here, I got a list of like
- 13:01Speaker 1: four or five things I got to run by you.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And I haven't even touched it yet. I know I'm
- 13:05Speaker 1: going to talk about some of them. Well, you know,
- 13:07Speaker 1: you know what?
- 13:08Speaker 2: You want to know why people are mad at us
- 13:10Speaker 2: about yesterday's Eminem extra?
- 13:11Speaker 1: Why?
- 13:12Speaker 2: We did. We didn't get the Mark Davis take on the. crucifix,
- 13:16Speaker 2: like exorcist style, falling off the wall and crushing the priest.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I heard your segments on that, wondering, was that God?
- 13:23Speaker 1: Was it the devil? Was that a message for all
- 13:24Speaker 1: of us? As this priest in Ecuador is talking about
- 13:26Speaker 1: how life is fleeting, you never can tell when something's
- 13:29Speaker 1: going to happen.
- 13:29Speaker 2: And then boom, boom. Will you weigh in today for me, please? Sure,
- 13:34Speaker 2: happy to.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I'll find something. Not knowing what to say has never
- 13:37Speaker 1: stopped us. I mean, come on.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 13:43Speaker 2: That's the small bit of it.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Exactly right.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Minor bump in the road. I love you. Happy Tuesday.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Mike's going to find something to say on the radio
- 13:50Speaker 1: as soon as we're done at 10. And then M &
- 13:52Speaker 1: M Extra in the podcast universe, the live stream on YouTube,
- 13:55Speaker 1: straight up at 11 Texas time, noon Eastern. That's YouTube
- 13:59Speaker 1: M & M Extra.
