- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hi folks, welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is Ken McEuse again.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's time for camp notes on July 31, 2026.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: The third day of training camp today, a beautiful day in the 80s, nice shade over there in the building by field one that's probably the favorite place of mine to see practice from because of that shade and the hot days.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: No fans today, the event staff is all setting up the stadium for tomorrow at the University of Maryland.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: Hope you're able to make it out to that.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: some great injury news today.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: This is definitely the headline of that.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: Big day for the defense.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to that.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: But the injury news was at the top of the list.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: Non-debatific was again in uniform on the field for some conditioning work.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: So that was good.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: A desi-isic was in uniform and returned from PUP unexpected.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: And all of a sudden, number 50s out there didn't do any 11 on 11, so I assume he's working up towards a normal play, sure he's doing some work in the position group, but at least as much, probably, as Matt and BK is doing right now.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: But while Cone was off PUP as well, number 31 out there now, it's not that was a complete surprise as to the feedback because he seemed to be close.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: during OTAs that he had been practicing the group drills, but not the 11 on 11s, and anyway, to have it back this early in camp, and on just the third day is fantastic and posted a picture of him from camp today.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: Again, not doing 11 on 11s at this point, but hopefully it won't be too long.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: very big deal for those two players, Kona and Isaac, Isaac are two players for whom camp is absolutely critical this year.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: Isaac to try and hold on to that fifth outside lineback or position, he's got competition both inside and outside the organization and I think that he very well
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens could very well go out and get a veteran to pass Russia, such as J.D.V.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: and Clownie or a Kyle Van Noy again.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: And he needs to probably prove his value, both on special teams, and as a Sam Linebacker to have a shot to make the team Cone.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: had a good first half of the training game.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's a cult he played last year, so hopefully he could be back.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see after practice.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm sorry, three absences remain.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: And those are the PUP players, Jones Jenkins, Buchanan,
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: Bullock who's still on NFI and Campbell, who is still, I guess, working up to practice, and we've had good injury management to date, I think, is the headline story from today.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: John Jenkins, by the way, was on a side field, working on conditioning elements, and it looks like he's getting ready to be activated from PUP as well, based on how he's moving around, I would say.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: After practice, the Ravens announced they have agreed to terms on a renegotiated deal with product Washington that will keep it in Baltimore for $2,026 at $2 million instead of $4 million, and that will include another $250,000 in incentives.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: It will save the Ravens $2 million in cap.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: That was obviously a big incentive for the Ravens to save that 4 million in cap.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: They otherwise could have by cutting in, which is if you think of it as a really like a 3 million dollar savings because you have to replace him with a different player and then obviously take account for his salary which is going to be a veteran or a player is making about a million dollars a year.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so that, you know, it's a significant portion of the savings harvested, and Washington now changes the picture on who will be on this defensive line.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you got, you got, you know, a sort amount of the injuries and PUP you're working through.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: You've got some young players who are trying to win spots, and, you know,
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: This was a kind of an unexpected contract result that changes my expectations of now who's going to be on the roster.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll have to talk about that as we get a little closer.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: All right, going through practice itself is more focused on the call set up motion snap kit off kind of stuff.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: The cadence drills, as I would call them, two drills either side of the field.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: But the one thing I'd say is one and one a kind of play together, the guys who it really runs and twos, you might think of them.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: A post sick is still not with the ones at this point.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: So he's going to be, you know, I guess working up towards that.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: He did seem to have a lot of reps today, honestly, in 11 on 11.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: they may be still trying to really manage his return from the Achilles injury and it did look to me yesterday as if he was walking gingerly after a rep and it may just be a one day or two day or until the next off day kind of precaution that he's doing less in terms of any 11's.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: All right, special teams.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: They worked on some punt drills.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: Today, I'm always interested in how they build a punt drill at a question about the Anthem in the mean entirely side step during the interview process.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: But they kind of built it up by working on get off in particular today.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: And this was really working on it from the punt blocking side as opposed to the
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: point coverage side of the punting side.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: So these are the guys who are in there to try and block the punting jam on the punting and whatnot.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, they're working on a quickness of get off getting the right line.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: And Tina Bean says, you know, looking for the want to in those players.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: and they do, you know, one man reps, and then they do half side reps, didn't see if they actually do a single rep with all of them going together because then they moved on to Gunner reps as well, and you got this Gunner jack jammer interaction and they're doing some drills of that.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's interesting to watch.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot to it in terms of building
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, special teams units that know what they're doing a lot more than people might think that you could call up any guy off a practice squad And he should not have a play special teams.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, a lot of them have experienced there because they're their fringe players and whatnot They're the starters generally not asked to play special teams, but it's a it's a You know, it's not an easy thing to coach and and get right
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: All right, the wider senior sets of drills, few things about this, the catch radius of Chris Moore showed up on several different drill elements.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: I would also say that while yesterday was a big day for Jacobi Lane, I saw him have some troubles working through one of the drills in particular.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna describe this a little bit, but they set up two consecutive cones that I would say are about five yards apart.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: And the wider Cedar starts, you know, five years for the first go and then 10 yards from the second.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: And he goes up the first go and then he kind of executes a stutter step that might be a little bit of wiggle or what he might sell to the corner kind of at the top of the stem that as I talked about it.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: And then at 10 yards, he makes his cut and he's given a specific cut order.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: Well, today it was a 90 degree cut to the left that Jacobi was asked to do and he has to really contort downwards.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: in order to make that sort of a cut, whereas, you know, it was a flower, and I wasn't watching Zay's side.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: There's what writers, readers, or split into groups, and Jacobi was in one group and flower, so it was in the other.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: But you really notice a lot of hip syncing from Jacobi Lane there.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's just going to have to be something he works through.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, very smooth and is ability to go up for the ball, completely fearless, in that regard, and shows off a great catch radius very regularly in camp.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: But actually, route running, I think it's still going to be a challenge for them.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll see how that goes during the regular season.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely does not have the same kind of body control that a serrat or certainly that either Bateman or flowers have in order to move around.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, Lamar Jackson had a somewhat tough day of 4th anniversary section by Malachi Starbucks was kind of the practice closing play, forced the ball up to Mark Andrews.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: It floated incomplete.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: Since it was a 4th down play, he's got to put that ball up.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: He can't just take the sack.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: So, him getting the ball off is what had to be done on fortunate that it ended up in your section.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't kind of counter it the same way I would look at a second down at her section he's throwing somewhere in the middle of the field between the numbers, that's a lot more serious, obviously.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: He had a badly under-throwed ball for Bateman, deep left, really had him behind Wiggins, yonder through the ball significantly, Wiggins actually used his incredible speed to make up ground and deliver a PD that kind of spoiled a big play from Bateman and a big pass for Lamar.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: And that was a general issue today.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say it was under-throwing receivers.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's been great so far, two days at an unbelievable level.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: And a bad day thrown in here is unfortunately, it's not like you had no
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: good throws on the day.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about that a little bit, but he had a lot of short passes today and on some of the long passes, the balls were just a little bit late.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: So that's somehow how it goes.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: I would say the volume of targets for the rookie tight ends is up.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: He still hasn't a big.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, been hitting them, or nobody has, honestly, not Huntley, not anybody.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Has been hitting them on any balls that go over the defense or between level two and level three.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: All the stuff's been underneath.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: Zero to five yard throws, maybe an occasional 10 yard throw fit in there, but their underneath throws, not where the Ravens try and get people with Lamar Jackson, usually tight ends, open on play action between level two and level three.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar's actions potential mesh point usage on an RPO and what not give them an opportunity to show the defense things that they can't immediately decode and make poor read steps downhill towards Lamar towards the mesh point and an open-up space between level two and three.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: And we really have not seen that from the from the younger severs.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably a little bit
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: for Lamar to do it against the Ravens defense, which gets to see him particularly every day.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: So they probably have a better idea what they're looking for, what they're keying off of, and what they expect in a particular drill and they take some chances and whatnot.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the things about being a defense to play at this time of the year, yeah, running yourself out of the play is bad, and you'll probably take some abuse for it in the film room.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: And in some ways it's easier just to kind of play a laid back kind of defensive style where you over commit to defending the area between level two and level three.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: And if there's a play that comes underneath because you're a little slow triggering, that's a lower severity error in terms of the film room than it would be to allow that reception a little bit further down the field.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, it might be more difficult for Lamar to handle that.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: In seven on seven drills, we saw the, the end of the sideline I talked about, Lamar delivered one of his Christmas passes of the day was a 25 yard crossing through to beatman that ended up being caught by the left sideline with wiggins trailing.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: It came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came, it came,
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: very shortly after the missed deep ball and it was a beautiful throw right in the money and and you know Wiggins had no chance to deliver any kind of a play on the ball.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: We saw a Tyler Huntley complete a 20-hour pass to Ted's walker between the hash marks Jackson through another ball for Bateman.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: There's 10 yards by the left side line.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: He was deflected by Keyon Martin.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to hear his name a lot in these notes because he had a
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar then left the pass behind Josh Quavis, which he was unable to control and dropped in complete the first two such throws on the day only one of them was from Lamar.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Huntley throw a five yard pass for Walker, that was knocked down by Keyon Martin.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: Again, not the last time we'll talk about his name.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Dom De Luca, whose name has not been said I believe on these notes in two days.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: He triggered downhill quickly to tackle running back Dante, but Millen on an outlet pass to the right.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: It was a seven on seven drill so it's not the end of the world and they used to be rules that the Ravens had about how quickly those linebackers were able to trigger down hill on such plays.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: But in this case, you know, he made the best of a of a situation there and delivered a fairly quick take down on a million or it would have been if they were tackling.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: So a Skylar Thompson complete a ball of the Chris Moore.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: It was right on the boundary in the end zone.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: It would have been a very sweet touchdown pass.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: And he didn't increase more.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Moore is kind of reaching outside of the the end zone to make that play.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: But he was ruled out of bounds and the ball was honestly just a little bit late.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: If it had been a little bit more on time, then he would have caught it probably directly over the boundary line instead of having to reach, you know, a yard and a half outside the
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: Moving on to 11 on 11 highlights, got a lot of these for you.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: Why did I do that?
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: Why did I detail all these plays?
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we'll go through these.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: Then go, you want to deliver a hard blow to knock a broader Washington office feet on a run rate.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: The following run play also had very nice three on three.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was zone push, but they definitely were getting
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: movement on three defenders from the nose tackle over to the left defensive end, which is always impressive when that multiple linemen could do it.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: And it looked like three separate one on ones they want, not some kind of power scheme or not some kind of duo scheme, where they had, you know, either one or two combination blocks involved that were
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: helping to create this advantage.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like one on one wins.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: So that might be some really good coaching from lead for it.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think the offensive line in their ability to do it or could run blocking today.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: So it's one of the nice stories.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Ethan Burke get knocked back by Adam Randall on a run lab for handle.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: has really looked apart of Derek Henry so far through three days, very a hard runner, very physical runner, not afraid of contract at all and not afraid to cut away from it either.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: So, look at for big things out of that for Steve B's first draft pick here.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: Ration Beni penetrated for a tackle for Lawson Randall.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: Ration Beni, we will mention his name several times today.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: He was one of the defensive stars.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: Beni had a pressure and a possible sack after a fake pitch right and a roll left.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: Derek Henry had a nice burst and cutback to find space in level two on a run left.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Green of finished a coverage sack as the closest defender to the QB.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: Ball was held for a long time.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Green was the closest.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was eventually blown dead and I couldn't really see that anybody was in immediate position to make the sack.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: So the offensive line probably held up pretty well while the coverage also held up well.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was Thompson again moved up in the pocket and eventually the play was blown dead and Green was the closest at that moment.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: We see Keyon Martin pop up again as he came up quickly to tackle Mark Andrews to deny a first down.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: Wiggins then tackled flowers.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: This was one of the really impressive plays of the day.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: He absolutely bolted into my field of view.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: So you have flowers, it's kind of across the fields.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: So my field of view should be kind of maximized for that area.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you look,
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: look at a cone if you want to think about that.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: And you know how you might recognize threats when you're driving say, but I'm I'm looking over and I see Z flowers catch the football over near that left side line.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: And all of a sudden weekends came flying into the picture and didn't knock him down hard physically, but he could have I mean it was a great trigger downhill and it would have been a nice tackle for loss there.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Marlon Humphrey have really good step for step coverage of Tess Walker 40 yards on the field.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's not something you typically hear because Humphrey obviously doesn't have the kind of speed that Tess has, but it did a good job of redirecting Tess towards the inside of the field as the ball was floating to the boundary.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: And normally, because the other way around, we talked about Humphrey and Ike Taylor and quarterback like that, who are big Jimmy Smith, big physical corners who can control and
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: between the sideline and boundary and use that as kind of an extra defender, where the quarterback feels like they need to intentionally overthrow the ball out of bounds.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: But that wasn't the case here.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: The ball was left in position where it might have been caught, but Tez was kind of blocked out of running back towards that right sideline to collect it.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: And he immediately looked for a flag from the official, but none was forthcoming.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't really see anything where he was holding onto the jersey or anything like that.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: Directing him with his hip towards the middle of the field, so nice to see a big play out of Humpree who so far in camp I'd say is one of the guys who's looking maybe a step slow if I had to had to make a judgment
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: So David Olegige, he's number 65.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: He was in the back field in a tackle for loss on Russian Ali.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: Tyler Huntley, then hit Tess Walker for a 15 yard play between the hashes crossing.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: Tavius Robinson shut down a reverse to Lajante Wester.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: He bounced back, tied in Matt Hibner, which is impressive in its own right.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: Then he kind of stretched out the play and shut it down near that right side line.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: So good play for TV.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's been one of the players.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like he's really ready to go right now.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see, I mean, I think the four-man group that they have at the top of the outside line-backer group is quite good.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's multi-purpose, assuming their depth holds up.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they'll have a problem delivering either past rush or run defense with the four guys.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think that they would be still well advised.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: particularly with the nature of, you know, the fifth guys, whether that be Burke or Isaac, to go ahead and pick up a veteran, Lake Clowney, or Vannoy, and more than anything that the group needs a Sam Linebacker.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: They need someone with that skill set to basically give flexibility for the past rush to generate free runners coming from other places.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: All right, now talking about Tyler Huntley made a five yard throw to Adam Randall on which Kiyan Martin was again up to make the tackle over.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think we're done yet.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: Still Elijah Tautal ever caught a ten yard wheel route from Huntley on the left side.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: I really nice looking throughout dropped it right in the bucket.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Tautal ever caught it and and I did not even see who the coverage player was.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: I was too enthralled by the route and the catch itself.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: very good things.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: Hibner had another kind of a double catch on a ball zero yards between the right hash and the numbers I should say.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of his balls have come right there, maybe it's a little bit easier.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: to, you know, roll through your focus and get it right on a 10 or 15-yard throw.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: It wouldn't be surprised by that if there was some reason why that was true, not an area that I really know anything about, but he's having a lot of problems.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like running flat routes and running the shorter routes and catching the football.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: And he's got to do that, got to crawl before you can walk.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: in terms of what he can do is a receiver so I give a lot of credit to the offense it's a doil in general for trying to get him to involve more and more and quave us for that matter today as well but you know they're they're going to eventually have to make some plays they're going to make some plays down the field they're going to have to
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: Secure the football on the first touch.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have to show that facility not only to to secure it quickly, but to be to be careful about how they hold it and make sure that they can turn off field and generate yeah, because that's a big part of any tight-end's game and and Bobbles and double catches minimize yeah, so it's not not obviously what I'd prefer to see
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: So, Ratia and Benny then had another stuff.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: This time on Roshina Lee on a run middle, Benny, of course, had a big day.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_00]: Huntley through a 30 yard pass for Western down the right sideline, but Martin again, step for step all the way and the ball was overthrown.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure if Martin's coverage actually caused that, but Martin certainly would have been in position to make a play on any sort of an under throw or maybe a 50 50 ball so very nice play again for Martin will take a break here with back just a moment.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we're back.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: Adam Randall knocked down Benny on a run left one a few times that Benny didn't look great on the on a plan.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Randall is just a man possessed and I think if he might be one of the players that mentor needs to dial back his level of physicality given the fact that they're not in pad so far.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what?
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's easier to dial it back than it is to dial it up sometimes and it's good to see Randall as being the physical runner that you know we have come to expect out of Jerk Henry for example.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: Ethan Burke had a late pressure on Thompson that forced him to roll right and then ground the ball on the right flat.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: Burke has made a lot of nice plays this camp so far in three days, so he's a guy who is in competition with a decent Isaac perhaps for a fifth OLB spot also probably for a top of practice squad spot.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he would be a guy who would be a good keeper for the ravens if they could make that happen.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: Burke then picked up a defensive offside on the next play that negated a past rush when he had against the left tackle was a nice nice, you know, speed win versus the left tackle outside, but we have the defensive off sides, you obviously have to think well, you know, that's the cheating might have really helped him get the win there, so that's a shame.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: I had a nice play where David Olagiga again and Dion Wilson met in the backfield for a tackle for loss of Dante McMillan.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: They gave each other a quick blow five, always nice when just like in real time you could do that without being all the way back the heartle, but they were able to do it in the backfield there and enjoy the play.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: Dom Deluca showed up again.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: He had a past offense.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: I did not see the target.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: It was a short middle throw.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: He deflected the ball.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: It could not tell again who that was intended for.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see, we had then red zone come up.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_00]: Now, there's a lot about this red zone that I want to talk about, but the offense had four consecutive failures today.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about those on three of which resulted in field goals and the fourth was a fourth down interception.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: And we talked about early, it was thrown by Lamar.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: The first one ended quickly and I don't seem to have a play recorded from it or I didn't record it in order.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'll say it that way and it ended with a 35 yard left hash field goal that was made by Luke.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: And that was with Lamar at the helm, then Tyler Huntley got his choice.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: He had three straight runs, as first was a scramble.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: It was a nice, long scramble run, and then back through the middle.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say it's one of Huntley's best plays of camp in three days.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that was nice.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: But the very next play, they had a designed run left for him.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: And that gained some more yard.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's good.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, again, good play.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then they got, they got, they got stopped.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: a sack from Mike Green that, what I say about this, look like Huntly wanted to run the ball again after a very short amount of time looking for receivers and Green was able to run and down and they blew the whistle dead.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: uh... huntley then through a pass in the inzone that was an apparent touchdown to test walker will first of all it was an apparent pd and then uh... the ball was tipped up in the air and all of a sudden i looked up in the officials calling it a touchdown so walker managed to collect this ball somehow in the inzone that must have been very athletic and also he was called back for illegal formation
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: So, the offense again, you know, having some troubles executing on this day and then hunting through behind Quavus, who was unable to collect the bottom, we've heard that story again before, both the balls that were incomplete to Quavus were definitely outside the frame, one by Jackson, and one by Huntley.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, one of the things that's being a tight end is you kind of want to have a big cash radius, and I think if it was Jacobi Lane, those balls probably get caught.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think if it's, you know, Mark Andrews probably those balls get caught,
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: Because I see a likely those balls get caught, but Josh Cravis and Matt Hibner are having some difficulty so far, this camp and that was, those were unfortunately two plays that did not get made.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Thompson then had his turn by the way, we had then a field goal attempt 34 from the right hash it was good again by loop.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then Thompson got his chance.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: He was pressured by Don Deluca on a play with his blown dead at her five plus seconds.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: So Deluca pretty nice to show up three times by the way.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: in a day any time when you're a 13 inside lineback or definitely a big positive day for him.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: Thompson then missed Randall low and incomplete by the right side line.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: He was kind of believe under a little bit of pressure to move over in that direction.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's just through low as his lost outlet and that ball was incomplete.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then Burke came in and sack Thompson off the list, I left edge to force a field goal to be lost a lot of yardage on that play ended up being a 56 yard field goal attempt from the right hash straight down the middle.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: Really look good to from from loop to make a kick like that and very positive.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar got a second chance.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: to do this red zone drill again.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: So he's back at QB, Hendrickson rushed through what would have been the B gap and John Simpson could not pick him up.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't see on that side if there was something kind of stunt going on, but Simpson was the dance part for partner for Hendrickson as he approached the quarterback.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: So it could have been the left tackles problem at that point.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, for letting that up, or it could have been Stanley, who I think was left out of the time, might have had to pick up on some game that was being played over there and Simpson then couldn't collect Hendrickson or, you know, direct him around the pocket in any way.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: And so that was a blown dead for a sack.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: Then Lamar threw a 20 yard pass for beatman.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: That was well under thrown in complete by the left sideline.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar completed a little five yard pass to Andrews between the hash marks.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson was under pressure.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: I did not see it was from.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: He threw the ball up in the air for in the general direction of Mark Andrews, but the ball floated over him and into the hands of Malachi Starks for Jackson's first intersection of camp.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: And after those four consecutive red zone failures, you know, three field goals and a loss on downs.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: The offense had to do push-ups.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: So there was kind of a competitive element to this and that's good to see.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: When you show you about the best where the best is needed, that kind of seems to me as a good proxy for it as opposed to some of the things that we're doing in OTAs say to have team competitions.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: So if we're talking about stars on offense, it's actually fairly limited.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: Rashina Ali had nice burst on a run but I'd say Adam Randall maybe gets the player the day on the offensive side.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: Again, there's some good offensive line run blocking.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: I believe, look at that more as a unit thing.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_00]: They did allow some penetration, no doubt about it.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: Ration Benny and others were in the backfield.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of those might have been the second and third team guys doing it, but you want to, in particular, among the three of them seems to be getting good push on as opponent and you like certainly to see that on defense several players obviously you talked about a lot of these but Malachi starts with the interception he's kind of automatically in there.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: Racion Benny was in the backfield multiple times as I mentioned he'd get run over once by Randall, but looked very good in this day.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: Keyon Martin was all over the field making place.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: Might have been as many as five plays that he was involved in where either triggered downhill or he got a PD or is instead for step coverage of Western at one time.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: But a number of very fine plays.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Nate Wiggins had a good coverage day.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: He did
- 28:52[SPEAKER_00]: A loud beatman to get behind him had the pass been better that would have been one of the plays of the day and a long touchdown pass probably for beatman But he Otherwise, I thought played pretty well He was a step late on beatman, but it was a really good pass going to a left-side line for about 25 yards, which was a little more as best through the day and then he also Was in quickly downhill To make the play I described earlier so the past of flowers
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: One more guy on defense that I think deserves it yet again after three days is Mike Green.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: He continues to provide pressure.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: More of a cleanup guy today where his high motor was generating good late results.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: And frankly, Green's motor is one of his really best things.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: And very much like Michael McCreary in that way, a guy who, you know, just never gave up on a play.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_00]: Remember back to the
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: It was Mike Green who chased JJ McCarthy for 10 seconds as the coverage unit had one of its best plays of the year holding up and Mike Green eventually delivered a game ceiling quarterback hit as McCarthy was forced to kind of let the ball go low for receiver on 4th and 4th.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: Green's motor is something we definitely want to see Ethan Burke also deserves mention for what he did off the edge and I think Ethan is in the discussion for that fifth Outside lineback or all the Ravens don't go outside the organization I mentioned Tyler loop on the field goes was three for three had a nice ringing hit on the gutter of the castle roof
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: which was a nice long kick and it was at any time they get it up there.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a nice place to have the building and the goalpost be there so when you're on field one and you're kicking towards that and you're actually field two also towards that end too.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: You get some balls that kind of go on the roof and it's kind of nice to for a kicker to get the kind of a visceral response to a nice booming kick.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: We had several guys at the podium, Anthony Levine.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_00]: He was talking about the leader of the Wolfpack, Nick Moore, being on a side field, working with Eccleon planting.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_00]: That was actually happening while the punt drills were happening.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: One of the topical things I forgot to mention earlier was that Tyler Loop was the substitute long snapper on these punt set-up drills.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now all he's doing is going in there and pretending like he's going to snap the football.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't actually have any snaps.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they had hot hot hot and they and Levine would basically have the defensive players rushing it quickly as possible as low as possible with their good get off.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_00]: He talked about, you know, wanting to see the get off, want to see the want to want to see the staying low out of his players as they rushed the punter at, but all that was a little interesting.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: And that he and Eccly, sorry, more and Eccly were working on that side field.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: Anthony, sometimes they'll give you some really insightful, different things with questions.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: Other times, you ask him even a specific technical question and doesn't really want to go into it.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: And he talks about, I'm so all about attitude or it's all about the mentality of trying to be a good pump-blocking player in this and that, and that's fine.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: But sometimes you get not too much from a coach or a player when they're at the podium.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: Declan Doyle was next, he said he'll coach for the Booth in a week one.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: The reason was that it was going to be easier to coach from the field in a week one, but because it was a home game, so I thought he'd make it a little harder on himself trying to coach from the Booth for a home game and see if that would make it easier.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: And it's noticed by Jonah Schafer that he was using a headset instead of a
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: walking, talking, the concept was the same, but he had to get used to using the buttons to speak kind of thing.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: So it seems like it would be a fairly obvious thing for somebody who has to do it regularly, but apparently not.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's a wired skill like a lot of other things.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: I, one thing you said was interesting was that you would never know that Lamar Jackson had not spent very much time under Senator's career because of how fast Eile is with it.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's very fast Eile with playfakes, with even turn your back play action, which is something I've always been fearful of.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: I always, I've kind of thought that Lamar has done better with the front reading play action, those, you know,
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: dropping the ball into the mesh pointer, or even playfaking the ball in the mesh pointer.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to go all the way in to execute an RPO and the Ravens have rarely done that over the years where they actually pulled the ball out of the mesh and then throw.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: They did two times in the Miami game in 2019, one more time and week five that year, and then they shut it down for the entire season in LMR's MVP year.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the very first throws was the ADR touchdown pass to Brown.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: In that very first game against the dolphins that they won 59 to 10.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: So you think you had that kind of success where they you probably wanted to do it a lot more, but they probably had some things in practice that went wrong And he said, yeah, why don't we hold off on this lots of forward facing faking forward facing fakes They have had but they don't do as much play action play action out of the pistol also might have been one of the reasons why they went away from pistol
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: There are multiple potential reasons, one of them that Lamar had a little bit of trouble with his left and his right on the pistol, not kind of recalling whether he had to turn left or right.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: My wife actually has a lot of problem discerning left and right on the road, and if I tell her, you know, you go left here.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: And she starts to, she starts to go right.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the other left kind of thing.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: There's no backup for that, obviously, on a football field, so you don't want to put a player who might have a little bit of trouble with left and right, or even just remembering left and right, which could be a lot of the difficulty here, to be in that position.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing, the reason number two is that you bill off a side angle of your play action that probably is more readable by the defense.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: And so it may have been that they shifted to play action elements that were, they thought would be less readable, whether that is turn your back or more commonly, fret facing into a mesh that occurs out of side car.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: So Henry, or whoever the running back is, crosses Lamar and front of him, Lamar can put the ball down where you necessarily, I mean, I don't think a inside linebackers can be able to see the ball at that point.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: They have to make certain judgments, and guesses, and play by a set of rules, to a crash in those cases, particularly the edge player there.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I think you get a more impactful fake.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: So while I think it would be better for Lamar, the runner, to be able to do more out of pistol, to be able to get more safe runs to the sideline, I think it might be better for Lamar, the play action passer, if those fakes come in front from side car.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm sure Doyle has other things to say on that, other opinions on this, but the Ravens really under Roman went away from that right away in terms of kind of discarding the pistol after one season.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: All right, more, more Declan Doyle, he said that I talked about motion and different looks creating stress on the defense, that's not rocket science, we've known that a lot would be a lot, but he used a good term, he said, you want to slow down the 11 brains on defense.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great way to put it.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_00]: in terms of giving them something that is challenging their processing speed and they have to react to.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: You'd love to see that stress put in play and they seem to have a fairly motion-heavy and fake heavy offense that they're putting in play so far in camp.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll just say that in general qualitative terms without describing specific plays but it seems like there is quite a bit of
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: He said, he's always wanted to be the coach that had several different characteristics.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: And the first was that he was a clear communicator, the second that he's able to hold players accountable, and the third that he's is knowledgeable and able enough to help the players.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: I also wonder stress that he was in the boat with the players and wasn't us versus them situation.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: And that may be one of the big wins of the mentor era so far.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: And Doyle obviously is a big part of that is
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: Having a much more relatable coaching staff, I think Anthony Weaver could relate to players of any age because he's just a great leader and an ex player who, you know, has an aura about him, but for a player like Doyle who I'm sorry for a coach like Doyle who is the right age.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_00]: But doesn't necessarily have everything in common with other players.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's extremely bright and and other players seem to really respect that which is good and I don't think that would necessarily be the case Like if you go back to more trust men, he was very bright.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think the players respected him at time when he was here I could be wrong, but I'm not sure even flack over respected him and then you had a bunch of other places He was gone after one year, so you could you see some of that
- 37:52[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, interesting that Declan Doyle is kind of giving himself some goals for the kind of coach he wants to be.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: Anthony Weaver was at the podium next to uh... he praised Harlan Bauer and Louis Spezito for teaching teaching at Louis Spezito's the defensive line coach Harlan Bauer's the outside linebackers for teaching little things that can help players hunt so uh... you know a lot of that felt a doctor rush last year who was uh... you know a heck of a of a coach in his own right at least had a heck of a reputation as being a past rush guru
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: and on a day of extreme pressure like this right time to get that praise in.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: So nice to hear it.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_00]: He praised the outlook and production of Mike Green, particularly his reaction he had to losing the play of the day award.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: He mentioned that he was the only front guy, the only front seven, I guess the only front guy who had been up for play of the day that I think might have been on
- 38:56[SPEAKER_00]: paraphrasing the words there, but he was impressed by that attitude and said, you know, Mike Green is bringing on a play to play basis.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: And for three days now, we have seen what we had hoped to see, I think, from Mike Green as a past rusher.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I hope the Ravens will just cultivate that throughout the year, keeping them basically a situational role like that.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_00]: You get him in there whenever you want to close out games, provided he's, you know, he's got some freshness attached to that.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 39:22[SPEAKER_00]: And you can have them out there on third down and you can have them out there on second and medium to long, but there's no reason to have them out there for all the first and second down, see played last year, which I think really cut into his effectiveness.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: talked about Kian Martin a little bit, he said at the Ravens Act in a local protee in Miami, but they effed up that.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_00]: And he actually, he said the whole word there.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_00]: And the Ravens of course, changed that and they're recording the transcripts and said they messed it up.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: But if you listen to it on the thing, you'll see here what he actually said in the reaction to it from the reporters there was a
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: a lot of laughing anyway so they they did end up getting key on Martin that's terrific and he made the team as a UDFA last year But apparently they missed their first chance to get him whatever that might have been maybe they actually in the draft They were thinking about going after him or they could have thought going after him
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: uh... he said tray Hendrickson reminds him of jj watt in terms of on field demeanor not in terms of their characteristics in a series past rusher but in terms of on field demeanor uh... i actually find that a little strange but i i i i i i would think what is a much more naturally violent player uh... we certainly see that from tj watt a lot uh... because he played the division uh... jj i would have thought you know more like uh... he'd run over your grandmother to get the quarterback kind of thing but maybe that's not the way he really was in the
- 40:44[SPEAKER_00]: Hendrickson, you know, reminds him of J.J.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_00]: said Nate Wiggins right now is laser focused, good to hear, and then the young defensive linemen are taking advantage of the opportunity.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: So you've got three defense of linemen on pop.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: You've got Colleys Campbell, who still isn't back after dealing with the tragedy his family's been through.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a great opportunity.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: If you're race on Benny, if you're, frankly, you know, might have been the reason that they resigned brother Washington today is the uncertainty at that position.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: John Jenkins is not back and, and, uh, and he has pebbles is getting to play more than it was wood.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: And he made that, we've made the point that those snaps just wouldn't be there for some of those players, including Graves and Wilson, uh, particularly CJ Akoya, um, you know, but they, he says they're, they're taking it and they're trying to get better and any, he, uh, appreciated that.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: Craig Hendrickson was next to the podium.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: He talked a little bit about his relationship with Carson Vincent during OTAs.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: That was a question I asked him.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: Compared it with his relationship with Terran Armstead at New Orleans.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: He said that they had had a relationship where they could talk about little things and improve them.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the direction of most of the advice is probably
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: going from Hendrickson to Vincent clearly here and Baltimore, but it's really good to see Carson take advantage of that opportunity and the way that it is reported that he did.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: Say, Hendrickson speaks the extremely religious overtones to a number of answers, in fact, he started down that path and then it's almost like every answer the remainder of the thing included that he was asked about how great this past rush can be said they would he doesn't like to make predictions, but they will hit when the pad comes on that's all they want to say.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's, you know, exactly probably how he should do it is just to say, you know, we're, we're going to do our best kind of thing.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: Jonas Schiefer asked him about arm length and, and he
- 42:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, went back to, you know, this is how God made me and I'm just doing the best I can and, you know, a question like that from a player who has shorter arms is never going to really grant you a technical answer.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I think if you ask Ruben Bane or you know, Trey Hendrickson obviously, or other players who've been effective past wrestlers with shorter arm like you know what it really requires it requires me to play with heavy hands.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_00]: It requires me to do this and that.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: I have to take advantage of certain keys and read off those and try and get first contact even though it may be directly directly to the chess plate, but maybe it needs to be to the arm or forearm or the opposing player.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think you could get that from Kelly Gregg.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, 10 years after he's been retired 15 years now after he's been retired.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think you get that from it.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: And it kind of a technical discussion.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be just going to do that someday by the way.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_00]: But you don't get it ever from a player who's who's talking at first of all, they don't want to give anything away.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_00]: But the second of all, they don't really want to go through technically how they have to do things or how they might have to make up for a deficiency.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: It just makes them seem like less valuable players out there.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: It also did have an opportunity with Mike like Locke's lead coming to the microphone.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: He answered a few questions about the University of Maryland.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of it about recruiting in the DMV area.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_00]: He said he needed to lock that down, get a hold on the players there.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: They had a great, you know, some great programs with the math, the math, the St. Johnson, St. Francis with the three he mentioned, St. Francis, you know, obviously a nationally recognized power that usually play a national schedule.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_00]: They sort of have an independent schedule because the A conference effectively kicked them out of the league because their players were so much more physically developed.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: Now, they didn't do it exactly like that.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: The other teams just refused to play them kind of one at a time until there was no lead left for them to be in.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, that's an unfortunate circumstance, obviously.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: But on the other hand, this put for St. Francis in a position to play a nationals independent schedule and obviously, you know,
- 44:53[SPEAKER_00]: be even that more much more of an attractive place to play as kind of cool to have a football academy like that in Baltimore, which is essentially what that program has become.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing I'm actually talked about was about minority coaching hiring.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's asked about, you know, is it a little, you know, two, one set forward, two steps back and I think with minority hiring and he's apparently involved in a group that does that.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: I know nothing about the group, but I did, I wondered whether or not I should ask the question,
- 45:21[SPEAKER_00]: about is there some way NIO could be manipulated and it talked a little bit about it with one other reporter Nick Meadow on the way out and the question would be whether or not you could create have independent fundraising that would then give money on an or have a formula to a portion money on an NIO basis for NIO money that would go to schools that promoted minority hiring.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe that sort of a thing is possible.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_00]: Nick didn't think, and I think he's probably right, that individual schools would want to be in a pooled money situation where everybody say gives 2% of their cap, and then that's reallocated by formula to, you know, schools that do better, minority hiring.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the reason there probably is a method out there if the goal, the NFL has the runny rule that's long been criticized for not doing enough.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: But it is something at least the NFL is doing and a college, I don't know what they're doing at all to promote this sort of stuff and it may be that
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, NIL, money has to rule and other elements that wouldn't have been the responsibility of coaches before.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_00]: Now, come to the forefront and make it even more difficult for minority coaches.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not sure if that's true or not, but it's just, it's, you know, it was obvious that my Galaxy is very pained by kind of a reversal in the number of big 10 and SEC coaches that were minority.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I believe he's the only one left in the big 10 now.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: kind of frustrating obviously for him and he made that very clear.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, good speaker, very good at the podium, explains things well, talks about one of the flagship school for Maryland.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_00]: That was probably the most important thing he said.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_00]: And it was lucky to have him there to talk to us for a moment.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: And he was kind of a late add-on and they'll be at Maryland of course tomorrow for that practice.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_00]: As can do it for days, camp notes, other folks out there, thank you so much for your loyalty first.
