- 0:00Adam: Hello and welcome back to the Adam Deider show.
- 0:03Adam: We got a really fun one for you guys today.
- 0:05Adam: We're talking San Diego Salty Toast Beer Festival on the Broadway pier.
- 0:09Adam: But first, cheers, everybody.
- 0:12Dedra: Cheers.
- 0:13Adam: Yeah.
- 0:15Dedra: What did Deedra buy?
- 0:18Adam: Yes, Deidre bought more stuff.
- 0:22Dedra: I've been actually wanting these slides from Dixon for a while.
- 0:24Dedra: And when they did their um seven days of Christmas, all the sales, I actually went to the store and uh almost bought them, but then the next day they ended up being on sale.
- 0:36Dedra: So I'm really glad I didn't buy it that day and I waited the next day.
- 0:40Dedra: But they're actually the um black Tiffany and I love this color blue.
- 0:46Dedra: And this is my green.
- 0:48Dedra: It's like a turquoise, like a bluish turquoise, if kind of like that.
- 0:53Dedra: It's Tiffany blue.
- 0:54Dedra: Anybody out there that's familiar with the the uh Julia brand Tiffany, it's the Tiffany blue.
- 1:00Dedra: Um, but I really love these.
- 1:02Dedra: These are actually my second pair that I have.
- 1:04Dedra: Um, the first one I have are black and gray camos, and I've had them for about two years about and the quality on them is amazing.
- 1:13Dedra: Like it just stays really squishy.
- 1:15Dedra: It doesn't like wear down or like because some over time sometimes sandals will squish and compress, and you just gotta get rid of them.
- 1:24Dedra: But these ones, I gotta say, they've held up really, really well, and I wear them often.
- 1:28Dedra: And it really helped.
- 1:30Dedra: Um, it still helps.
- 1:31Dedra: Like when I had broken my ankle, just it absorbed a lot of the impact when I would walk, um, especially like on hard surfaces.
- 1:38Dedra: Wearing these sandals, these slides specifically, have really helped out, actually.
- 1:43Dedra: It's made it comfortable because I've got other shoes that I've worn or other side sandals, and it's just not the same.
- 1:49Dedra: So I was really kind of sold on that.
- 1:52Dedra: One of those happy accidents.
- 1:54Dedra: Yeah.
- 1:56Adam: I couldn't tell you, but I'm gonna talk about this beer because I just had two sips of it, and the second one just to was just to make sure, you know, that I liked it as much as the first sip, and I did.
- 2:06Adam: But it's called uh sling de jour from Drecker, of course, which is a bumbleberry cobbler sour a la mode.
- 2:15Adam: And look at the color on that, it's like a deep reddish color.
- 2:19Adam: That's that's what you like in your sours, right there.
- 2:23Adam: That's like almost exactly what you like to describe, I think.
- 2:27Dedra: Absolutely.
- 2:27Dedra: I love Mia Smoothie Sour, and Drecker makes some amazing sours.
- 2:33Dedra: Drecker and um the other one, In N Out.
- 2:36Dedra: No, in and out.
- 2:40Adam: R-A-R, out of order.
- 2:43Dedra: Well, maybe In and Out does.
- 2:45Dedra: I don't know.
- 2:45Adam: Yeah, in and out.
- 2:46Adam: You know, you get your uh what is it, double, double hamburger, double double, and a side of uh sour.
- 2:54Dedra: And a smoothie sour.
- 2:55Dedra: Yes, there you go.
- 2:56Adam: It's a whole it's next to their shake machine.
- 2:58Adam: They just maybe everybody else just missed it.
- 3:00Adam: But this is really good.
- 3:02Adam: I'm to say cobbler, it I'm getting like a lot of that like grand cracker flavor inside there, along with the flip fruit.
- 3:09Adam: The gimmicks on there say blueberry, strawberry, blackberry, granola, cinnamon, and vanilla bean.
- 3:15Adam: And that is really good.
- 3:17Dedra: It is.
- 3:18Adam: This is gonna be one of those ones that we're sitting here talking and we're just gonna not help but just drool.
- 3:23Dedra: Yes, and that wouldn't be the first.
- 3:25Adam: Yeah, because it just gets those glands going right in the back.
- 3:28Dedra: It does, and it's not like a real tart like sour.
- 3:33Dedra: It's like a sweet sour, if that makes sense.
- 3:35Dedra: Yeah.
- 3:36Dedra: So if any of you out there have never or are looking into getting into sours, definitely try the smoothie sours first.
- 3:43Dedra: Yeah.
- 3:43Dedra: Swing du jour.
- 3:45Dedra: It's way different than like your standard sour, where it's some of those can really make your face pucker.
- 3:51Dedra: And I'm not a fan of those ones.
- 3:53Adam: Well, this one, I mean, yeah, I'm totally getting like that whole cobbler or like pie crust and I think it's you say pie crust, but I'm thinking it's the granola.
- 4:02Adam: Yeah, maybe it is.
- 4:03Adam: I that's just really good.
- 4:05Dedra: It is all right.
- 4:06Dedra: Keep talking.
- 4:08Adam: Well, you're trying to drink.
- 4:09Adam: But we were in San Diego, and this was I'm so glad.
- 4:13Adam: Salty toast was brought on by the same uh group that does the Copper State beer festival in Phoenix.
- 4:19Adam: They did this on the Broadway pier now, year after year before COVID, we were going to the San Diego Festival of Beer that was right on the Broadway pier.
- 4:27Adam: And there's just something about it that's just absolutely amazing.
- 4:31Adam: It's different than any of the beer festivals I think that we've gone to.
- 4:34Dedra: Okay, I was like, it's a perfect location.
- 4:37Adam: Oh, yeah.
- 4:37Adam: And coming, you know, from Phoenix was freaking hot.
- 4:40Adam: We were just we were in Temecula too, and it was pretty warm there too.
- 4:43Adam: We get into San Diego and it's what 70 degrees out there?
- 4:47Adam: It's it's overcast, it's just beautiful.
- 4:50Adam: Or was it overcast?
- 4:52Adam: I can't remember.
- 4:53Dedra: I think it was it started out sunshine, but then it turned into overcast.
- 4:57Adam: That's what it was.
- 4:58Adam: Okay.
- 4:58Adam: And just walking towards the Broadway Pier, of course, our hotel room was really nice because it was only like two blocks over, so we didn't have to go very far.
- 5:06Adam: And uh even we could stagger back to the hotel after we were done, which we did.
- 5:11Dedra: Waddle back because we ate too much.
- 5:13Adam: Oh, yeah, we did.
- 5:14Adam: That was so good.
- 5:15Adam: But the first place that we hit, so there were two Arizona breweries there, and the first one was actually one that we talked about last week, Sarfire.
- 5:26Adam: So we like beelined it because they were like the second or third tur tent.
- 5:29Adam: Turt, they were like the second or third tent right inside there.
- 5:34Adam: So we just went straight there.
- 5:36Adam: And that was the first one we had.
- 5:38Adam: And it was actually we had the same beer that we had actually were there, that pink one, the baptized in bloody water.
- 5:44Dedra: Yeah.
- 5:45Adam: Your pink starburst, not strawberry or whatever I called it.
- 5:49Dedra: Correct, correct, pink starburst.
- 5:51Adam: They don't have flavors, they're just colors.
- 5:53Dedra: That is true.
- 5:54Dedra: No, no, no.
- 5:55Dedra: The yellow Starburst is obviously lemon.
- 5:57Adam: Are you sure?
- 5:58Adam: Yeah.
- 5:58Adam: It's not banana.
- 6:00Dedra: No.
- 6:01Adam: What if you get the tropical stick or you know, the tropical ones?
- 6:04Adam: Don't you have like mango and like I don't know.
- 6:09Dedra: I don't know.
- 6:09Dedra: I I'm kind of I stick with the original flavors.
- 6:13Dedra: And I like that, but I do like the yellow.
- 6:16Dedra: That one's nice, it's got a nice little tartness to it.
- 6:18Dedra: And it is that one is that one does identify as lemon.
- 6:22Dedra: I'm kidding.
- 6:24Adam: The purple, it does taste like grape, also.
- 6:26Adam: But the beer, we're talking about the pink starfers to baptize in bloody water, was just as good there as we had it while we were at the brewery.
- 6:34Adam: It was they they were pouring it.
- 6:36Adam: And this is one of the really good things.
- 6:38Adam: So the beer festivals in Arizona, you have to have like tokens or little tickets or whatever, and you have to drop them for each beer that you try.
- 6:46Adam: I don't know if this is just a California thing, um, but you don't have to have that transaction at the beer festival.
- 6:52Adam: So you just go with your cup, place to place.
- 6:55Adam: There's no, hey, I you gotta turn in your little ticket inside the bin, which you know, nobody really takes those anyway.
- 7:00Adam: But still, it's just like they just give you a cup and say, have fun.
- 7:05Dedra: That is true.
- 7:06Dedra: And that's why I enjoy just going to those festivals out in California so much more because it's not um regul regulated, I guess.
- 7:15Dedra: Like how it is out here in Phoenix.
- 7:17Dedra: And then just the fact that it's on the pier weather.
- 7:21Dedra: Yeah.
- 7:22Dedra: Amazing.
- 7:23Adam: Water all around.
- 7:24Dedra: It was it was an amazing time.
- 7:26Dedra: We got there again.
- 7:27Dedra: There was um Starfire was right there, about I think it was the second tent.
- 7:32Dedra: And I beelined it, hung out there, talked to the guy.
- 7:37Dedra: I can't remember.
- 7:37Dedra: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
- 7:38Dedra: Trevor.
- 7:39Adam: Yeah, he's the brewer there at Starfrier, so that was nice to talk to him.
- 7:42Dedra: Told him what an amazing job and how delicious that beer was.
- 7:45Dedra: Yeah.
- 7:46Dedra: And we're like, okay, there's so many breweries here.
- 7:50Dedra: We can't, you know, spend the entire time at that tent, even though I we kind of We could have.
- 7:55Dedra: I mean, we did go back.
- 7:56Dedra: We did, yeah.
- 7:57Dedra: We did hit it up a couple more times.
- 7:59Dedra: Um, no, we just made our trek going down the way.
- 8:02Dedra: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:03Adam: And there were so many beers.
- 8:04Adam: I mean, uh any beer festive festival that you go to, it's kind of hard to describe the beers that you've had because you're just going from one to the next to the next to the next.
- 8:13Adam: And but there was a lot of good breweries.
- 8:15Adam: So I think right next to Starfire was uh Belchin Beaver, I think was right there.
- 8:20Adam: I think so, yeah.
- 8:21Adam: Yeah.
- 8:21Adam: Uh Solaris was right right there with it.
- 8:24Adam: There was one called Weirbeer, which I've never even had before.
- 8:27Adam: They've been open just a few years, and I think that one's out of San Diego.
- 8:32Adam: Solaris, I think, was out of Murietta, and I got a really good beer at that place.
- 8:37Adam: It was a barrel age stout.
- 8:40Adam: Now, I cannot remember the name of it exactly, but it was in collaboration with Horace.
- 8:46Adam: Um, and anytime, I mean, Horace, their stouts that they make are just so good.
- 8:51Adam: And uh, this the one from Solaris, it's like one of those places that are a Mirietta that we've seen come up on the maps, but we just haven't been there.
- 8:59Adam: They're open a little bit later in the day.
- 9:01Adam: And I think when we're whenever we're hitting those spots in that area, like Temecula, Mirietta, yeah, we're always there like in the middle of the day because like we're trying to get a few in before we go to dinner or um other things that we have planned in the afternoon.
- 9:15Adam: So it was it was uh it was really good to have that beer though, because I think they had two on tap.
- 9:20Adam: Had we, I think we each had those, and then I saw that bottle sitting there on the top, and I'm like, hey, uh, what's that?
- 9:28Adam: And he's all well, that's our barrel-aged one.
- 9:31Adam: And I'm like, too stuck out my cup.
- 9:33Adam: I was like, Yeah, uh, can I have some?
- 9:36Adam: He's like, Yeah.
- 9:38Dedra: Which was neat.
- 9:39Dedra: And I don't know if we just never noticed it before, but I feel like at this specific um festival, there was a couple other breweries that came out there with their own barrel-aged bottles.
- 9:51Dedra: And then I started thinking about him like, have they always done this and we just never noticed it?
- 9:56Dedra: Or we just like weren't really as into you, you weren't really as into barrel age and just didn't take notice.
- 10:03Adam: It's possible, but you know what?
- 10:05Adam: I don't think I've ever really been on the lookout, and I'm I'm always looking at the the taps, also.
- 10:09Dedra: Right.
- 10:10Adam: The bottles were were separate.
- 10:12Dedra: That's what I'm saying.
- 10:12Dedra: I'm wondering if it's always been like that, and we've just always missed it.
- 10:15Adam: It's possible because everywhere was out there also, and they had they had a barrel age one too.
- 10:20Adam: And I think I even did the same thing.
- 10:22Adam: I'm like, hey, what's that?
- 10:23Adam: He goes, Well, I was giving people a try.
- 10:26Adam: I guess it's time to open this bottle.
- 10:29Dedra: Well, no, I thought he was the one who said, Hey, come back at like four or something like that, and he was gonna open a different one.
- 10:36Adam: No, no, no, no.
- 10:36Adam: That was a brewery, they were gonna switch their kegs out.
- 10:39Adam: Oh just to have a different one on.
- 10:42Adam: And I was like, okay, four o'clock.
- 10:44Adam: It was like four oh two, and I'm like, there, I was there.
- 10:48Adam: Yeah.
- 10:48Adam: Well, I gave him time, you know, to change the kegs, you know.
- 10:51Adam: Oh, okay.
- 10:51Adam: It takes a minute.
- 10:52Adam: Well, that one was weird.
- 10:55Adam: That one was out of Montreal, Canada, and out of all the beers there, that was probably my favorite.
- 11:02Adam: Uh, and very surprising.
- 11:03Adam: That one was called Nessorium, and I had a triple IPA.
- 11:08Adam: They had like batch numbers to them, and I think they were on like batch number 58, uh, the one that I tried.
- 11:14Adam: And I'm trying to think of the name of it.
- 11:16Adam: It was called uh, I don't know, something triple IPA.
- 11:20Adam: Triple IPA hazy in from Montreal, Canada.
- 11:24Adam: Their beer names, though, were like in French or maybe had a French influence to them because I couldn't read half the names of them.
- 11:33Dedra: I think I think that was also my favorite as well, um, which I was really surprised because uh beer zombies was out there and they were also sharing the same tent with RAR.
- 11:45Dedra: And of course, they had their their smoothie sours and their lines, their smoothie sours lined up.
- 11:54Dedra: Wow, that was really hard to say.
- 11:56Dedra: I saw four, and I'm like, all right, I'm gonna start right here at the right, and I'm gonna work my way all the way down this whole line.
- 12:01Dedra: So I had the first pour and oh, I can't remember what that first one was.
- 12:07Adam: It was a blueberry, blueberry pie one.
- 12:11Adam: I think it was something like that.
- 12:13Adam: Blueberry pie?
- 12:14Adam: Yeah, blueberry pie.
- 12:15Adam: And the second one you got was a raspberry something.
- 12:18Dedra: Yes.
- 12:19Dedra: And I so we left and we went exploring for a little bit just to check out like the other tents and stuff like that.
- 12:24Dedra: And um having too many smoothie sours gets you full.
- 12:28Dedra: So just starting out.
- 12:30Dedra: I didn't want to be full already.
- 12:31Adam: And taking breaks in between just to get your flavors different a little bit too.
- 12:36Dedra: And I remember just walking around and then we're like, oh, checked out quite a few other tents.
- 12:42Dedra: Um, went back and they were almost all wiped out.
- 12:46Adam: Yeah, they had like one left, and that was the oh, it was raspberry shortcake or something like that.
- 12:51Dedra: I was disappointed because I really was just like, oh man, all right, challenge accepted.
- 12:55Dedra: I'm gonna go through, I'm gonna hit all four, come back, and I've done there's only one left.
- 13:00Dedra: I felt so deflated, and I wanted to turn around and start yelling at the people that were hanging out, like around that tent, and be like, you guys did this, didn't you?
- 13:09Dedra: Don't drank all my soup sours.
- 13:15Adam: I had a couple there, so I did ask the guy also, okay.
- 13:19Adam: I hear rar and I hear R-A-R.
- 13:21Adam: And I asked him, I'm like, which one is proper?
- 13:23Adam: And he's just like, he goes, Well, proper is probably R A R, but RAR is more fun.
- 13:29Adam: So both are acceptable, by the way.
- 13:32Dedra: So if anybody was ever curious, like much like we were, you can definitely say either way, and you'll be right.
- 13:41Adam: But they had uh HSA, is what their lineup of hazis were were, and it stands for hop saturated ale.
- 13:50Adam: Very, very good hazy's.
- 13:52Adam: I think most of them were doubles.
- 13:54Adam: There might have been a triple inside there, also.
- 13:55Adam: And I've had a decent amount of the RAR beers, and they were good.
- 14:00Adam: I had a Nelson, I think that was like a single hop one, and that was that one was really good.
- 14:05Adam: I like Nelson hops a lot, and I had another one that was called uh was like wow, something with baseball.
- 14:13Adam: It was like a throwback jersey, I think it was called.
- 14:15Adam: And that one I actually liked even better than the Nelson one, and I think it I can't even remember the hops that were inside of it, but so good.
- 14:22Adam: And it was, like you said, connected to that same tent as beer zombies, and they had one of their ice cream smoothie sours.
- 14:30Adam: I can't even remember what it was, but that was really good too.
- 14:34Adam: And I had this picture that I took in front of with her and I in front of it, and of course, there's like somebody in the background, and I think their hand is like blocking the name or something like that.
- 14:43Adam: Yeah, and I'm like, oh, I could have I could have had it.
- 14:46Adam: Who's this guy?
- 14:48Dedra: Right.
- 14:48Dedra: Some some silly hand talker.
- 14:52Adam: Putting it right in front of the freaking name of the beer.
- 14:55Adam: Otherwise, you know, everybody run out and get the one that I can't see the picture of.
- 14:59Adam: Um, the other Arizona brewery was uh Pinnacle was out there.
- 15:04Dedra: Oh, that's right.
- 15:05Dedra: Yeah.
- 15:06Adam: We've never been to that one, and I was a little bit surprised that we have it, number one.
- 15:10Adam: I know it is a little bit far, but their beer style is on the like the lighter end.
- 15:15Adam: So as we're walking around, there's all kinds of uh stouts, and I everybody has an IPA on on tap usually, and that's almost like in ever every beer festival.
- 15:24Adam: But Pinnacle had a much lighter uh variety.
- 15:29Adam: I think they had like what three beers, and they were more of like um the Czech style.
- 15:33Adam: There was like a um a lager.
- 15:36Adam: Um I think there was a Mexican lager and um a Hellas.
- 15:41Adam: Yeah, and the Hellas was you had that one.
- 15:44Adam: It was with the collaboration with Sana Sana.
- 15:46Dedra: That's right.
- 15:47Dedra: Yeah, it was delicious.
- 15:48Adam: And I think that was the only Mexican lager that I got during the whole festival.
- 15:52Dedra: And I was really excited to see that they had done a collaboration with Sana Sana.
- 15:56Dedra: And I see they're also starting to really branch out and collaborate with a lot of people, and now you can get, you know, Sana Sana's beer um in different places in downtown Phoenix.
- 16:06Dedra: So good for you.
- 16:07Dedra: Good for you.
- 16:08Adam: Yeah, they're doing a great job.
- 16:08Adam: It was a good beer, and uh, I think actually Greg was interviewing Daniel over there at Sana Sauna recently.
- 16:18Adam: So our friend Greg with uh Cold Brew podcast.
- 16:21Adam: But that yeah, that was that's really good to see their stuff everywhere.
- 16:24Adam: They weren't in San Diego though.
- 16:26Dedra: That would have been cool, that would have been really cool.
- 16:28Adam: Oh, and then uh villains was out there also, and I like villains.
- 16:32Adam: That me too.
- 16:33Adam: That brewery is just amazing.
- 16:34Adam: The one that they have in Anaheim, I'm not sure if they have another, I don't think so.
- 16:38Adam: But that one's really cool the way it's set up, like that has that outdoor area.
- 16:43Dedra: That outdoor area is ridiculous.
- 16:45Dedra: Oh my gosh, if you guys have not been out to villains before, go check it out.
- 16:50Dedra: The place is cool, just the grounds in itself.
- 16:53Dedra: Um, but yeah, like before I interrupted you, sorry.
- 16:56Dedra: It's fun, please.
- 16:58Dedra: Yeah, the outdoor area is huge.
- 17:00Dedra: There's so many tables with umbrellas, and then also they have these shipping containers that they uh opened up and have stacked.
- 17:09Dedra: I think they're like stacked too high, and they've got um like a ceiling fan in there, they've got couches and a TV, and it's just like a cool, neat little, almost like a living room setup, basically.
- 17:20Dedra: Yeah, it is and it is super, super cool.
- 17:22Dedra: And I was like, I could totally see like watching football there.
- 17:25Dedra: Yeah.
- 17:26Dedra: Um and then another another thing that they do have is they also have a pool there, and I don't know exactly like how that works.
- 17:32Adam: You can rent it, I think, just the area.
- 17:34Dedra: Okay, and I'm gonna say I don't know if it's just like open to the public or if they have like a schedule where you can go and swim whenever you want, like a free time, and then it's like booked up after that or what.
- 17:44Dedra: But I think that's really cool.
- 17:45Dedra: I mean, a brewery with a pool on site like that.
- 17:49Dedra: Yeah.
- 17:50Adam: And in the heart of Anaheim or the the whole packing district there too.
- 17:55Adam: So it's like it's uncommon.
- 17:56Adam: I mean, for how packed everything is, and this place has the ability to have uh even that inside of their uh their grounds.
- 18:04Adam: So I mean, I can't imagine.
- 18:06Adam: They even have a fine dining restaurant there too that we heard about.
- 18:09Dedra: Right.
- 18:09Dedra: I haven't we haven't been there yet, but that's I think once we go back and we're in that area, I would really want to check that out.
- 18:16Adam: Yeah, for sure.
- 18:17Dedra: Um, but they they also have an indoor area as well that you can go in and sit at.
- 18:22Dedra: But I mean, the the grounds are so beautiful there and the weather is perfect, it was hard to find ourselves going inside.
- 18:30Adam: Which was really cool because that the they had those big giant doors, yeah, the entryway and all their tanks and everything are inside there, plus they had the bar.
- 18:38Adam: So I mean, it wasn't like we wouldn't go there, and it's just we were sitting outside and just enjoying ourselves.
- 18:44Adam: This beer, oh my god, I I want to.
- 18:47Adam: I'm I'm I'm almost I just can't stop taking sips of it.
- 18:52Adam: Two.
- 18:53Adam: I had to stop that.
- 18:54Adam: I'm just like, oh my god, this is so good.
- 18:56Adam: Um, Relentless was also out there, we which we've been to in Temecula.
- 19:02Adam: Uh oh my God, I think when we went to Relentless the last time, it was so freaking hot outside.
- 19:07Adam: And they had no AC.
- 19:09Adam: They had like a couple little piddly fans in there, and I just remember like feeling sweat dripping down my back.
- 19:14Adam: It was just like an uncommonly hot.
- 19:16Dedra: Yes, yes.
- 19:18Adam: And uh Tripping Animals was there also.
- 19:21Adam: Um, I always enjoy their beer.
- 19:24Adam: I think they had, is that the one that they had the like the cookie barrel aged out?
- 19:29Adam: Yes, and it like was aged for like 40 months or something, and I expected it to just have like a lot more flavor than it actually did.
- 19:38Dedra: To punch you in the face.
- 19:39Adam: Yeah, I know.
- 19:39Adam: So I was a little disappointed at that.
- 19:41Adam: I, you know, maybe because we were having so many other beers, it was that was the reason.
- 19:46Adam: But I just know that I I was drinking it, and I'm like, you know, out of the other two or three um barrel age stouts that I had while we were there at the festival, that one was my least favorite, and it was one that I actually felt I should have liked more.
- 19:59Dedra: Right.
- 20:00Adam: Yeah.
- 20:00Adam: I think it was a collaboration, wasn't it, with a couple different breweries?
- 20:04Dedra: That one I don't really remember, but I know like um green cheek was out there too.
- 20:10Dedra: There were so many, so many great brewer brew breweries?
- 20:14Dedra: Yes.
- 20:14Dedra: Yeah.
- 20:15Dedra: I was thinking like brewers, like the the people.
- 20:18Dedra: I was like, no, no, no, that's not right.
- 20:21Adam: We've been to that one too.
- 20:22Adam: I like I like Green Cheek.
- 20:23Adam: They got some really good beer at that place too.
- 20:26Adam: Plus their pictures on their labels.
- 20:28Adam: It's like they're they're so little i can iconic characters, you know.
- 20:32Adam: Uh Mother Earth was out there and Masonel works, and uh they were pouring stuff out of cans.
- 20:40Adam: They didn't have any drafts that I remember, but I had that one called like it was like the Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it was like Obi-Wan Can Obi.
- 20:49Adam: I don't know the way that they wrote it.
- 20:52Adam: But they have such cool uh can art.
- 20:55Adam: I really like their their stuff.
- 20:57Adam: We've had one on one of our other episodes, and it's just like I think we had like a Beetlejuice one or uh Captain Crunch, I can't remember, and it was like just that their uh their design, I guess.
- 21:08Adam: I don't know, their their theme, and it it was really cool.
- 21:11Dedra: Well, and beer zombies, I love their can art.
- 21:15Dedra: It's I really really like it.
- 21:17Dedra: And another can art that I really appreciate too is um Bruhos.
- 21:23Adam: Yeah, there those are really cool.
- 21:24Dedra: Yeah, really, really cool.
- 21:27Adam: And fall was out there, and I like theirs because it's like that Felix the cat.
- 21:31Adam: That theme.
- 21:34Adam: Um just fun.
- 21:36Adam: And I did, you know, I think we went there, but I can't even remember the beer that I I had.
- 21:40Adam: At this point, uh, going from to all these places, they they did start to blur together quite a bit.
- 21:46Adam: Um they had bourbon and I should say uh quite a few different liquor pourers inside, too.
- 21:53Dedra: That is true.
- 21:54Dedra: That was in the the hall area, and we we just walked right by it because.
- 21:59Dedra: Because we were just like, you know what?
- 22:01Dedra: That that's a bad choice.
- 22:04Dedra: We're just gonna stick to beer.
- 22:05Dedra: Yeah.
- 22:06Adam: We're on the pier.
- 22:06Adam: We wanna be that person that falls off.
- 22:10Dedra: There was also Harlan.
- 22:11Dedra: Harlan was a little bit.
- 22:12Dedra: Harlan was out there.
- 22:13Adam: Yep.
- 22:14Dedra: Um and then we did have to take a break and we got some food and this food truck.
- 22:20Dedra: Oh yeah.
- 22:20Dedra: So there was a lot of really good choices for food.
- 22:24Adam: And we didn't go, we went to the one that was almost least expected because it wasn't pizza, wasn't hamburger, it wasn't tacos.
- 22:31Adam: Yes.
- 22:33Adam: It was your choice, and I appreciate it.
- 22:35Dedra: It was actually a Filipino food truck, and I love Filipino food.
- 22:39Dedra: And I'm sadly not Filipino.
- 22:41Dedra: I wish I was.
- 22:43Adam: Just for the food.
- 22:44Dedra: Yes.
- 22:44Dedra: Oh my god.
- 22:46Dedra: So going and I I love Filipino food and I love pork belly.
- 22:50Dedra: And there was a lot of that just on their menu.
- 22:53Adam: Yes.
- 22:53Adam: And it was called SD Sisig.
- 22:56Dedra: Yes, the food truck, SD Sisig.
- 22:59Dedra: And we ended up getting um after looking at their menu for a while, because it was just so hard to make a choice.
- 23:06Dedra: Everything was there was pictures and descriptions.
- 23:09Dedra: And for those of you that are like in the restaurant restaurant industry, food truck.
- 23:15Dedra: Yeah, like with food trucks.
- 23:16Dedra: It's it's so easy to decide what you want when you actually have pictures of what the food looks like.
- 23:22Dedra: Because sometimes you don't know what the dish is called, but if you see a picture of it, you're like, yep, that one, that's the one I want.
- 23:29Dedra: Because I mean we truly eat with our eyes first, right?
- 23:33Adam: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 23:34Adam: And I don't know, like it's in Filipino, you know, a lot of the foods, it's not like it doesn't say pork belly with this or that.
- 23:41Adam: It's it's you know, what was it called?
- 23:43Adam: The chone kawali.
- 23:45Dedra: Yes, I believe so.
- 23:47Dedra: Um, I just pointed and at the menu and I told her, and I was like, I want this and this, and she was reading it because I had no idea and I didn't want to butcher anything, but I knew what it was made up of, and I was like, Yes, I want this and I want that.
- 24:01Dedra: It was so many.
- 24:03Dedra: So we the pork belly was like cut into cubes, like good sized cubes, and it was deep fried, but not like where it was greasy and like hard and crunchy.
- 24:13Dedra: It just still had a good chew to it.
- 24:16Dedra: No watering.
- 24:17Dedra: So there was um the pork belly, and it came was it it came on rice.
- 24:24Adam: There was a garlic rice with an egg on top.
- 24:27Adam: I think that was the kicker.
- 24:31Dedra: Oh my god.
- 24:32Dedra: I how did I forget about the egg?
- 24:34Dedra: Oh my god, that was so good.
- 24:35Dedra: Yes.
- 24:36Dedra: Pork belly with garlic rice and a fried egg on top.
- 24:42Dedra: I mean, how do you not order that?
- 24:45Adam: And it came with a few different sauces also, and oh my god, just of course lumpia.
- 24:52Dedra: So we had we ordered a side of lumpia, and I think it was just like what nine?
- 24:57Adam: It was six of them, but still like there's only two.
- 25:00Adam: Oh, can you is can we get a half order?
- 25:02Dedra: She was like, no, just six.
- 25:04Adam: I'm like, all right, six it is, and uh, sweet chili sauce to go with that.
- 25:10Dedra: Oh, it was oh my god, it wasn't it.
- 25:12Adam: And it was pork pork inside there too.
- 25:15Dedra: So the lumpia was perfect, it was crispy and crunchy, it had tons of flavor to it.
- 25:20Dedra: The pork belly, that plate actually it came out, and this is what put me over the top is it came with some like a few slices of cucumber.
- 25:32Adam: Oh, yeah, dude.
- 25:32Adam: That's right.
- 25:33Adam: I forgot about that.
- 25:34Dedra: And I love cucumber.
- 25:35Adam: I almost got one.
- 25:36Adam: You know, I started eating one and then I set it down and it was gone.
- 25:39Adam: I'm like, hey, what the hell?
- 25:41Dedra: I don't know, it was windy.
- 25:42Dedra: Wind blew it away.
- 25:44Adam: It's just sitting there crunching.
- 25:46Adam: Oh, that was so good.
- 25:50Dedra: Like just dipping, it was like we tried the different sauces, and I can't tell you exactly what they were.
- 25:55Adam: There was like a barbecue style one, I think, with um like it was a soy sauce barbecue kind of themed one.
- 26:04Adam: And then there was another one, which is the vinegar with the daikon and carrot inside there, also, I believe.
- 26:10Adam: And then the sweet chili sauce, and then there was like a white one, but I don't I'm not sure what that one was.
- 26:15Adam: Some sort of uh mayonnaise-based sauce, I believe it was.
- 26:19Adam: But oh, that was so good.
- 26:21Dedra: I just kept going back to the sweet chili because even though that went with the lumpia really well, dipping the um pork belly in that also paired really well.
- 26:30Dedra: And I tried the other two, and it just didn't quite hit the same for me.
- 26:34Adam: I was going, I I was having fun with all of them, and I felt like Homer.
- 26:38Adam: You know that that episode he's like sitting on the couch and he has all of his chips and dip all around him, and he's just going to town with all everything.
- 26:45Adam: That's what I felt like.
- 26:46Adam: I was just going from one to the other to the other, and I was like mixing the sauces to see what those tasted like.
- 26:50Dedra: Oh, I was so good.
- 26:52Adam: Having one without sauce, just because you know you have to try one.
- 26:54Adam: Yes, yes, get the full flavor.
- 26:58Dedra: So we ate, had cleaned the entire container, ate containers, yeah.
- 27:06Dedra: Ate all the lumpia, and just we were like, all right, we we gotta like we gotta get it together.
- 27:12Dedra: We still have all these other beer tents to go back to.
- 27:15Dedra: And like just sat there and I just had the time of my life.
- 27:19Dedra: I was like, oh, this is so good, and just cramming more lumpia and garlic rice in my mouth.
- 27:25Dedra: Oh man, that was good.
- 27:27Dedra: I now now want to be looking for Filipino food trucks out here to try to get that dish again.
- 27:33Adam: Oh, yeah.
- 27:34Adam: I mean, I I'm not gonna be mad.
- 27:36Adam: I'll go for it.
- 27:38Dedra: So, because the food area is like at the very front where the entrance is um, you have to go through like the building, and that's where they were doing all the bourbon pours, and it's at the back side of the building on the back of the pier.
- 27:50Dedra: That's where everything else, like all the other tents were set up.
- 27:54Dedra: There was a huge giant screen because they were still doing soccer at that time.
- 27:59Dedra: The World Cup was still going on.
- 28:00Dedra: Um so they just had a big giant screen and some chairs set up, and it was really cool.
- 28:05Dedra: And they had a DJ out there, people were, you know, just having a really great time.
- 28:09Dedra: And actually, back there, um that's where we ran into Fernando, which is actually one of our followers.
- 28:16Dedra: So shout out to Fernando and his lovely wife.
- 28:19Dedra: Um we also ran into Rachel from Beer Babes, so big shout out to Rachel and Charlie.
- 28:25Dedra: Yeah, and Charlie.
- 28:26Dedra: Charlie also.
- 28:27Adam: And they were helping with the event, also.
- 28:29Dedra: Yeah, so it was awesome.
- 28:30Dedra: It was really good to see, you know, just some Arizona people out there in community.
- 28:34Adam: Thanks for putting it on because that thing was that was amazing.
- 28:36Dedra: It was amazing.
- 28:37Adam: To be back in San Diego on the Broadway pier.
- 28:39Adam: I mean, that was a it's been six years.
- 28:41Adam: They stopped it in 2020.
- 28:43Adam: And I don't know if they tried to revive that beer festival at all, but just to come to this one, and actually seven years, because the 2020 didn't happen.
- 28:51Adam: So I think the last one we were at was 2019.
- 28:54Dedra: Oh wow.
- 28:54Adam: Yeah, so what is seven years ago now?
- 28:57Dedra: We've been eating something like this.
- 29:00Adam: But that was it was so fun.
- 29:02Dedra: That was a ton of fun.
- 29:04Dedra: It was a great time.
- 29:05Adam: Yeah, but it was it was really funny because we were sitting there eating, and it was right when the World Cup was about to start their game, and I think it was England versus Norway.
- 29:15Adam: I think it was that game, right?
- 29:16Adam: I think so, yes.
- 29:17Adam: Yeah.
- 29:17Adam: So we're sitting out there, you know, like our heads are buried inside the the container.
- 29:22Adam: We're not paying attention to anything that's going on around us.
- 29:25Adam: And all of a sudden, we just realized that like all the chairs are disappear disappearing.
- 29:30Adam: And we're sitting there like the only two sitting in the in the front section there.
- 29:35Adam: All the tables have no chairs anymore.
- 29:37Adam: And we're like, what the heck's going on?
- 29:39Adam: People were grabbing the chairs up in that front area and taking it to the back of the pier or the end of the pier, I should say, and we're using it to sit down to watch the the soccer game.
- 29:50Adam: So after you know, we get done and we start walking towards that back area again, we've all of a sudden we've seen all these people setting up, and we're just like weaving our way in between all the chairs that got set up and excuse me, getting beer here.
- 30:03Dedra: I just felt like, what are you guys doing?
- 30:05Dedra: Get out of the way, crazy lady.
- 30:10Adam: Standing right in front of them.
- 30:11Adam: Well, there's a game going on.
- 30:12Adam: Did you guys know?
- 30:13Adam: This weather's really nice, huh?
- 30:16Dedra: Did you try this beer yet?
- 30:17Dedra: You should go over there.
- 30:18Dedra: Oh, man.
- 30:19Dedra: What are you drinking?
- 30:20Dedra: Let me tell you about this Filipino food truck we just had.
- 30:23Adam: Yeah, probably smelling all greasy and everything, too.
- 30:26Adam: Oh, but that egg on that rice was probably that was one of the things I think that just made that dish.
- 30:33Adam: Because it wasn't cooked, it was a sunny side up egg, but it wasn't super runny.
- 30:39Adam: It was kind of cooked, maybe medium, and just it it slowly, like the yolk slowly went into the the rice, and just as we flattened it, ate it, and we're eating it with the pork.
- 30:51Dedra: Oh they had everything figured out.
- 30:55Adam: Yeah, I love beer, and it was fun trying all that stuff, but I really love food.
- 31:00Adam: There's just some things, but the thing about beer is you can go tent to tent and have drinks.
- 31:06Adam: If it was food, we had to go tent-to-tent eating food as much as I'd love it.
- 31:11Adam: You'd get like four in, and you'd be like so full that you couldn't enjoy anything else.
- 31:16Dedra: True.
- 31:16Adam: And having the beer after we had that food was kind of hard too.
- 31:20Adam: It was just like, okay, we can fit some more.
- 31:22Dedra: I think I think we just walked around a little bit first.
- 31:26Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:27Dedra: Not in everybody's way that was trying to watch the game.
- 31:30Adam: And one of the bourbon places, so they had uh tequila vodka, they had like different companies uh bring in New Riff was there, and I don't see that one very often.
- 31:39Adam: We bought a bottle of that one time, that's a really good whiskey, and I saw that, I was so tempted to go there, but again, didn't want to fall in the water.
- 31:47Adam: But it was a it was an amazing day.
- 31:52Dedra: It was, it truly was, and then just having like all the boats and like the tours and stuff that were coming by the pier, loading, unloading, and just you know waving at people who are over here having all the all this great amazing free beer and amazing food and music and well, free was a relative term.
- 32:11Adam: I mean, I'm kind of paid to get in.
- 32:12Adam: Oh, sure.
- 32:14Dedra: But it's like, huh, you're taking a stupid boat tour.
- 32:18Dedra: It's like a boat tour, or would you rather be at a beer festival?
- 32:23Dedra: Very true.
- 32:24Adam: But if they had beer on the boat, that'd be fun too.
- 32:26Dedra: But I bet you it wasn't a festival type beer where it was going to be multiple places, amazing breweries, and unlimited pores.
- 32:35Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:36Adam: I'm I know that I'm missing probably like 10 or 15 other breweries that we didn't mention on here, but if I did, I apologize.
- 32:43Adam: There's some there was some great ones.
- 32:45Adam: There are ones that I've I haven't even heard of that uh they had there and sat there, drank their beer too.
- 32:52Adam: Like that one, I can't I've still tripped out that one from freaking Canada.
- 32:56Dedra: Like it was weird.
- 33:00Adam: They, you know, they they they poured in metrics instead of in standard.
- 33:04Adam: I'm just kidding.
- 33:07Dedra: Wow.
- 33:08Dedra: I was like, you really paid attention.
- 33:11Adam: They gave me milliliters instead of ounces.
- 33:13Adam: It was really weird.
- 33:14Dedra: I was like, I was just like, beer's empty.
- 33:18Adam: Nudge, nudge.
- 33:20Dedra: Start pouring, beer boy.
- 33:24Adam: Oh, it was it was so much fun though.
- 33:26Adam: And I'm so glad that it was a beer festival was back on that pier.
- 33:30Adam: That just that was so fun.
- 33:32Adam: Really enjoyed that.
- 33:33Adam: And if they're having it next year, we'll definitely go to that too.
- 33:36Adam: Because uh, I mean, how could we miss it?
- 33:39Dedra: I would hate to.
- 33:40Dedra: I would hate to miss it.
- 33:41Adam: Yeah.
- 33:41Adam: So after we got done with that festival, took a picture, we took, went outside, took a picture of the whole pier, and we promptly went to the hotel room and I took a nap.
- 33:50Adam: All kinds, all full of beer and food.
- 33:55Adam: I just knocked out of.
- 33:56Adam: And you're like, I guess I'll watch some TV.
- 33:59Dedra: I just I was not tired and I was just not as worn out as you were, and I was just like, oh man, I'm like, Adam, Adam.
- 34:08Dedra: I was like, all right, good old TV.
- 34:11Adam: It is I was probably sleeping with a smile on my face, though.
- 34:14Adam: I I can't imagine otherwise.
- 34:16Dedra: So I just like laid there and I was like, all right, I if he's asleep, I'm gonna go to sleep.
- 34:20Dedra: But I don't want it to be like one of those situations where you take a nap and you wake up four hours later and you're like, oh crap, everything's all closed and shut down.
- 34:30Adam: So I feel like that's happened before.
- 34:34Dedra: I was like, all right, I'm gonna set a timer on my phone.
- 34:36Dedra: I'm gonna give us two hours max.
- 34:38Dedra: And then after the two hours, we've got to go back out and hit the town again, get our second win going.
- 34:42Adam: And it was it was actually really good that we did that.
- 34:44Adam: But we had an amazing time there.
- 34:46Adam: And I I want to be back.
- 34:48Adam: I mean, uh not only because of the weather, but I love San Diego.
- 34:52Adam: We we frequent that a lot.
- 34:55Adam: And uh it's actually been a little bit.
- 34:57Adam: I think it was probably a year ago, it was the last time we were in San Diego, and that was too long of a gap, I feel.
- 35:03Adam: I I really love the town, so I agree.
- 35:05Adam: Yeah, gotta get there more often.
- 35:07Adam: But uh, looking at this beer here, I think that kind of times it right there.
- 35:12Dedra: Yeah, I was saying I've been holding off on this last drink.
- 35:15Adam: That's been hard.
- 35:16Adam: It's like almost like fresh jelly, almost, like like uh what do you call that?
- 35:21Adam: Like a strawberry preserve or something like that.
- 35:24Adam: I'm just getting some really good flavors with that.
- 35:27Dedra: Ooh.
- 35:27Dedra: It's coating.
- 35:28Adam: Look how thick that is.
- 35:29Adam: It's coating the glass.
- 35:30Dedra: I was like, I could dump this on my waffles.
- 35:33Adam: I wouldn't want to waste it that way, but maybe if we had another can.
- 35:36Dedra: Oh, yeah.
- 35:37Dedra: Well, just have to go get some more.
- 35:39Adam: Yeah.
- 35:39Adam: Well, cheers, everybody.
- 35:41Adam: Thank you so much for spending this time with us.
- 35:44Adam: I love San Diego, and this is always a fun one to talk about for sure.
- 35:49Adam: Down the hatch, until the next week.
- 35:52Adam: Uh, we got some more breweries that we hit while we were out there.
- 35:55Adam: So please uh watch uh next week's because it will have some more fun stuff for you guys for sure.
- 36:00Dedra: Got another really good food place in this in this next episode.
- 36:05Adam: Food, beer.
- 36:06Adam: It was a great, great afternoon.
- 36:08Adam: Yes.
- 36:09Adam: We got more to talk about.
- 36:10Adam: So stay tuned.
- 36:11Dedra: Yes.
- 36:12Dedra: Make sure you're back here again next week to listen to that food place.
- 36:15Adam: Absolutely.
- 36:15Adam: Love you guys and cheers.
- 36:16Dedra: Cheers.
