- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, well, here are
- 0:07Speaker 1: on one leg up with Alex Garrett. There's so much
- 0:09Speaker 1: to get to. We have a new Yankees Hall of
- 0:11Speaker 1: Famerceci Sabathia and former Yankee eg Row who will go
- 0:15Speaker 1: in as a Mariner. We've got the Jets hiring Aaron Glenn.
- 0:20Speaker 1: We've got some news from Washington, but before we get
- 0:23Speaker 1: to any of that, and some great interviews to get
- 0:25Speaker 1: to this week. But before we get to any of that,
- 0:30Speaker 1: I just want to explain to you how special this
- 0:33Speaker 1: week always is the five days between January seventeenth and
- 0:39Speaker 1: January twenty first, because, and though we weren't on yesterday,
- 0:45Speaker 1: I have to make this known. I've always enjoyed celebrating
- 0:49Speaker 1: my stepdad vis birthday on the seventeenth of January, and
- 0:54Speaker 1: then just a few days later, my dad, my Pops,
- 0:58Speaker 1: John Garrett's birthday on January twenty first, and for many
- 1:03Speaker 1: years it was a beautiful few days where we get
- 1:06Speaker 1: to celebrate both from one side with Vic and then
- 1:08Speaker 1: the other side with my dad. And I couldn't let
- 1:13Speaker 1: another show go by without mentioning that, yes, I'm very
- 1:16Speaker 1: thankful to have my stepdad to keep calling on his birthday.
- 1:21Speaker 1: And I do miss being able to visit and call
- 1:24Speaker 1: my dad on his birthday Jurny twenty first, because, as
- 1:27Speaker 1: you know, he did pass away almost two years ago now,
- 1:31Speaker 1: and you know those this weekend and the time between
- 1:36Speaker 1: my stepdad Vic's birthday and my pop's birthday was reflective
- 1:46Speaker 1: and it made me think about how exciting it was
- 1:49Speaker 1: to celebrate everybody in that one span of time. And now,
- 1:57Speaker 1: even though my Pop's not here, we still celebrate him, right,
- 2:00Speaker 1: We still get to shout him out on his birthday,
- 2:02Speaker 1: and now we call it a heavenly birthday, I guess,
- 2:04Speaker 1: But it was just a really special few days. And
- 2:09Speaker 1: one thing about my family, my mom, my dad, Vic,
- 2:13Speaker 1: and my pops and my grandmother DEDI of course, is
- 2:17Speaker 1: they all come to me with their wisdom and their
- 2:22Speaker 1: care and their strong, strong advice. So it's no wonder
- 2:28Speaker 1: that I ended yesterday with a visit from a wild
- 2:34Speaker 1: creature I've never seen before in real life, and Owl
- 2:40Speaker 1: was up above my head basically on one of the
- 2:44Speaker 1: nearby trees. And I truly believe on my dad's birthday
- 2:50Speaker 1: that was him and my grandmother all in one coming
- 2:54Speaker 1: to say hello, and to say this year is going
- 2:57Speaker 1: to be very special and fortuitous because owls are interesting.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I never thought they'd stay and sort of wait for
- 3:05Speaker 1: you to get a picture of them, but this one did.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And I even not challenge it, but I even was
- 3:12Speaker 1: a little risky. I put the flash on my iPhone
- 3:14Speaker 1: to see if it would show any of the color
- 3:18Speaker 1: of the owl. But it basically it took its silhouette
- 3:24Speaker 1: and even with the flash, it stayed through it. It
- 3:26Speaker 1: was like ready for its photo shoot. And even though
- 3:30Speaker 1: it was sixteen degrees last night, I felt very strongly
- 3:34Speaker 1: to get that picture because it was the first time
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'd ever seen an owl. Firstly, but it was remarkable,
- 3:42Speaker 1: remarkable that this owl had visited on the day of
- 3:48Speaker 1: my dad's birthday. It would have been his I get
- 3:52Speaker 1: my math right eighty seventh yesterday. So I love that
- 4:02Speaker 1: my pups and my grandmother are watching over me every
- 4:05Speaker 1: day and watching over my stepdad and mom victim mom
- 4:09Speaker 1: every day. And of course it was also around the
- 4:12Speaker 1: time we lost my Grandmam out that anniversary is five years,
- 4:17Speaker 1: which I can't believe. So I mean she was involved
- 4:22Speaker 1: with that too, because she was very much involved with
- 4:26Speaker 1: all of our lives, and as I talk about it,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I think she was there to say hello and that
- 4:33Speaker 1: she's along with us and my sister Abby on this journey.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And it all came to me in the shape of
- 4:42Speaker 1: an app an owl. So thank you God for saying
- 4:46Speaker 1: that owl, and thank you to my dad, my Pops,
- 4:56Speaker 1: my Grandma's for coming to check in and let me
- 5:01Speaker 1: know that it's gonna be a great year. It's only
- 5:04Speaker 1: January twenty second. We've got eleven months more to make
- 5:11Speaker 1: this a great year. And if that owl did not
- 5:17Speaker 1: mean something, I don't know. I think it did. I
- 5:20Speaker 1: think it certainly did. And I can break down the
- 5:24Speaker 1: wisdom that all of these family have shared. But I
- 5:32Speaker 1: thought about this today. My Pops often lectured me with
- 5:39Speaker 1: his wisdom, and that was never an easy lecture. So
- 5:46Speaker 1: I turned to my mom and my stepdad for not
- 5:51Speaker 1: only their wisdom, but they're soothing kind of advice, their
- 6:00Speaker 1: warm advice. And now as I look back and think
- 6:10Speaker 1: of it now, I'm so glad I have my mom
- 6:13Speaker 1: and Vic to give me their wisdom along the way.
- 6:19Speaker 1: And I listen intently a little more maybe them when
- 6:25Speaker 1: my Pops was around, because the dynamic was looking to
- 6:30Speaker 1: them for that soothing kind of wisdom, I guess you
- 6:33Speaker 1: would say. But in the end, that owl represents that
- 6:38Speaker 1: they all are have all been wise in their advice
- 6:44Speaker 1: to me on this journey, and I'm so thankful for that,
- 6:48Speaker 1: and I'm so apprecia of that, and I love them all.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And for those who have gone before us, we can't
- 6:56Speaker 1: stop thinking about you. We know you're with us every
- 6:58Speaker 1: day and we love and appreciate you. And the wisdom
- 7:05Speaker 1: I can share today is enjoy your loved ones while
- 7:12Speaker 1: they're here. I Spend every minute you can with them,
- 7:20Speaker 1: so that wisdom can be soaked in and passed along
- 7:23Speaker 1: to you as you grow up and get further in
- 7:30Speaker 1: your journey in life. So that's the wisdom I can
- 7:33Speaker 1: share today. And I truly believe between my grandmother and
- 7:39Speaker 1: my dad, my pops and mom, they've all had one
- 7:47Speaker 1: leg up on wisdom and that owl was a symbolization
- 7:52Speaker 1: of it. And so here's to a year of wisdom
- 7:59Speaker 1: on one leg up with Alex Garrett.
