- 2:43athletes. He's also a longtime donor to the university, and he's one of
- 2:46the managing partners of the Arizona Diamondbacks major League baseball team. He was on

- 2:58Bob Huggins and we are going to get into that. Come it up a

- 3:25called three zero four four four zero one one zero four for fresh Air because
- 3:30everyone deserves fresh air well. This Monday evening, an organization called the Upper
- 3:36Canal Valley Mayor's Association is going to hold a candidates for them for those seeking
- 3:39office from the area and the upcoming made Primire. The forum is Monday evening
- 3:44at six of Bell Town Hall. Here to talk about it as a mayor.
- 3:46Mayor of Bell Mayor David Fletcher, Good morning, sir, How are
- 3:50you? Good morning, Dave? How are you doing today? One from
- 3:52one day to another? Yeah, one day to another. It's the best
- 3:54name, you know, that right, that's right true, is no doubt
- 3:59before we get to the forum that your town is going to be hosted on
- 4:01Monday evening. Looks like you provide me with a line of the people and
- 4:04you got to got some real heavy hitters coming there for this. Tell us
- 4:08what's going out of bail these days, what's new in the town. Actually,
- 4:12we're doing pretty well holding our own. You always say that you can
- 4:16always use more money to do more things, but with what we've got,
- 4:21we're doing a pretty good job keeping everything going, trying to keep us in
- 4:27the black and moving forward. We actually were able to after gosh ned seven
- 4:35mayors later, we're able to actually do a storm drained sewer line upgrade and
- 4:42new lines and everything in the road that had never been done in the past.
- 4:46So Phil feel pretty good about that and getting some of those things done.
- 4:51Another thing is actually the state did pave we'route sixty through bail in from
- 4:58the Palmar store and the their businesses that are in bail there, and so
- 5:02that was really pretty good. They stopped a little bit short of the town
- 5:05limits. Don't know why we've asked a couple, did you something to make
- 5:10a matter? Well, I don't think so. But we've asked them a
- 5:14couple of questions as to why, and a couple of the legislator lady people,
- 5:17and you know, haven't really gotten an answer there. But stopped short
- 5:23of the old Walker Machinery, Boyd Caterpillar area and did not go to the
- 5:29end of Bell. So I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe they'll they'll
- 5:31righttify that situation. They may. I mean, I think we've we've we've
- 5:36raised a little bit of dander with them, So we'll see see what happens
- 5:41here in the spring session. What what would you want to say to people?
- 5:44Maybe because I know in West Virginia we're always trying to attract new people
- 5:47to move to a town or to open up a business in the town.
- 5:50What's a big selling point that you've give them for the for the for the
- 5:53town of Bell. Well, I think what we've got, I mean,
- 5:56you know, everybody's got being attacked, no matter if you're in Bail or
- 5:59Night, Saint Albans or South ch Auston or wherever. The big thing is
- 6:04with us, I mean, we do have a great police department, We've
- 6:09got a great fire department, We've got a Great Street department, city services
- 6:14and everything there. We still probably offer one of the lowest price services for
- 6:20those services itself to our businesses and residents in Bail. So we're always looking
- 6:29for someone to come in and to try to bring new business to Bell.
- 6:32And you know, and then even with the announcement recently with the hydrogen hub
- 6:40and everything else, we've actually torn down some houses. So we have about
- 6:45eight or ten building lots right now that someone could come in and actually put
- 6:49a few new buildings up in Bell, new houses. So you know,
- 6:54we're pretty pleased to see that and trying to make sure that you know,
- 6:59once this hydrogen hub comes in that we've got maybe a couple of new building
- 7:03lots and so many can can come in and actually build a new home in
- 7:06Bell. Talking to Mayor David Fletcher of the Town of Belvedeve alland showing five

- 7:35doing this meet the candidates for him. It's going to be Monday evening at
- 7:40six o'clock at the Bell Town Hall and it is sponsored I understand by the
- 7:44Upper Kanal Valley Mayors Association. Talk about that organization. Okay, Yeah,
- 7:49we do have the Upper Kanal Valley Mayors Association. It is made up of
- 7:54all the eastern end mayors in the Upper Kanoal Valley, beginning at actually the
- 8:00Bell area over on the south side or north side of Route sixty and starting
- 8:07at Marmett over on the south side in sixty one and going all the way
- 8:11to Montgomery area. Got all the mayors that we bring everybody together trying to
- 8:18share ideas and different things, trying to see what we can do with that
- 8:24quorum or what we've been doing. We have done, like an Upper Canal
- 8:28Valley dog Catcher. We actually had the dog Catcher program running for guys probably
- 8:35fifteen eighteen years and then just actually looking at police services things like that.
- 8:41We're all having problems finding police officers and we've been trying to say, can
- 8:45we share some officers or anything. That's a great thing to do. I
- 8:48mean to have municipalities like that work together because, as you said, Mayor,
- 8:52most of you had the same problems, the same and it's great that
- 8:58you can all work together, network and kind of learn from each other.
- 9:01So you guys are going to do this. It's it's a it's a meat
- 9:05the Candidates forum, and it's going to be at the Bell Town Hall and
- 9:07it is on Monday evening. It starts at six o'clock, doors open at
- 9:11five. Refreshments will be served. Talk about all the kind of work that's
- 9:16that that's gone into putting this thing on, What will the format be like,
- 9:22what will people learn if they come out there? Okay, you know,
- 9:24and we've done this at Bell for many years now, usually on the
- 9:30every other year, and we'll try to do a meet the candidates anytime that
- 9:33we can. But putting this thing together, it's pretty much just working up
- 9:41with the mayors itself up in the Upper Kanal Valley trying to get this thing
- 9:46together and then actually put out a brochure that we've put together and to send
- 9:52that out to the potential candidates that are running. And then actually each one
- 9:58of us, I think is shared personally for several candidates, just trying to
- 10:03see who we can get out. Now, what candidates are you looking at?
- 10:05Is there anything that you're I mean, we've opened to anybody. Well,
- 10:09it's pretty much opened to anybody if you're running for House magistrate, whatever.
- 10:13Yeah, we actually have a congressional candidate that's going to be there,
- 10:20and then from there we've got a government or governor candidate uh, you know,
- 10:24actually going to be on board with us. Uh and then coming down
- 10:30to the local offices, down to the Board of Education, to the sheriff,
- 10:35to the assessor you know, county commissioners, the magistrates here in Kannall
- 10:41County. So you know, we've got a variety. And I think right
- 10:45now we're close to thirty people. Wow. And that's why I'll asking you
- 10:50about how the format's gonna work, because thirty people, thirty politicians are wanting
- 10:54to be politicians. With all due respect, that's a lot of hot air.
- 10:56It is it is, And you're onna and I'm wanna I don't consider
- 11:01myself I'm kidding kidout. But but the how is this going to work?
- 11:03Man? Yeah, what we normally do is once we get everybody in,
- 11:07we usually sit them down and just say, hey, you know, we're
- 11:11giving everybody and we try to look at this early. So we've done this
- 11:15already, uh thinking right now, we're going to be probably about two to
- 11:20two and a half hours. Uh, so it actually gives each one of
- 11:22them about five minutes uh to be able to come up just state their case,
- 11:28state their political platform, you know, what they believe in, why
- 11:31they're running. Uh, just different things that you know, you want the
- 11:35voters to hear. Okay, you know, so that's really i mean pretty
- 11:39much the platform. So we're going to have some people that's going to actually
- 11:43be waving you know, hey, you get you're there for the timekeepers.
- 11:46There's always part of timekeepers and to make sure that we try to stay on
- 11:50point. Now, will the audience be allowed to ask them questions? We
- 11:54do take some questions, and then another thing we actually start out usually with
- 11:58hey, the candidates are going to stay in the room for a little while,
- 12:03you know, catch them, you know, talk to them one on
- 12:05one. Yeah, talk to them one on one, you know, and
- 12:07we try to do more than that or more of that than we do,
- 12:11just questions, just so we can keep this format going. What is the
- 12:15deadline If a candidate's listening right now, and maybe they didn't know about this,
- 12:18and they because it's Monday evening, is there a deadline? But they
- 12:20could show up Monday evening at six o'clock, you know, we all ahead
- 12:26of time, or we open the doors at five. Yeah, there is
- 12:28down on the bottom of the flyer there. We had our two clerks,
- 12:33Angelo up in Montgomery and Lynn at Bell Town Hall that we've asked everyone to
- 12:39call if they are coming, to let them know. And that way we've
- 12:43made a list so far of who all we do know is going to be
- 12:46there and refreshments will be served. Refreshments will be sort of that's what I
- 12:50want to know. What kind of refreshments you goed? Usually what they'll do
- 12:54is they'll do some finger foods, maybe a small sandwich, anything like that,
- 12:58and then from there then we'll have usually tea lemonade, water things,
- 13:05and some coffee, good stuff, good stuff, all right, good,
- 13:07all right, So it's all gonna be Monday evening at Bell Town Hall and
- 13:09starts at six o'clock. And again, if you're a candidate listening right now,
- 13:13I'm gonna give you a couple of numbers here if it's directly off the
- 13:15flyer, Angela Tackett three zero four four four two five to one eight one
- 13:22or Lynn Sizemore three zero four nine nine thirty eight forty one again, and
- 13:30or just call the town hall, so Bell down all the nine three eight
- 13:35four ones Bell town Hall, called Bell town Hall, and they'll get you
- 13:37taken care of. Was I think it's great that you're doing that, and
- 13:41you've got again. I mean, now this list that you provided me,
- 13:43is this a list of people that are coming? Or is this that's the
- 13:46list right now? Have it? So I'm gonna I'm gonna just talk about
- 13:50some of the offices. I'm gonna get individuals. We've got Canaw Candy,
- 13:52Board of Education, a couple of sheriff's candidates, family court judge, there's
- 13:54a house, a couple of House members I see or House candidates, should
- 14:00say, Congress, Kenawk County assessor, Circuit court judge, prosecuting attorney,
- 14:07secretary of state, so yeah, you got a wide range here and there's
- 14:13still time to get into this. So look, it's an opportunity for you
- 14:16candidates, and I know a lot of them listen to this show. So
- 14:18if you're a candidate, you need to contact the Bell Town Hall and say,
- 14:22hey, I want to be at this thing. That's right, all
- 14:24right, Mayor is always it's a pleasure to have you on the show.
- 14:26Appreciated, Dave. Glad to be here and glad to be able to share
- 14:30some things going on in bail and then also with the meet Candidates night.
- 14:35Now, I want you to keep things running smoothly there and say hello to
- 14:37my old junior High and fellow Logan High class of eighty eight member John Slick
- 14:43Seiner. I know he's listening, so I got to give him a shout
- 14:46out. I'm sure he is all right. Well, it's no problem,
- 14:50but come up anytime and look forward seeing you maybe Monday night if you get

- 18:07Good morning, Welcome to the show. How are you doing fine? Man?
- 18:11You can breathe now because it's over. You know. Actually people say
- 18:15that, and I'll be honest, it's not. It's not that I've got
- 18:18a little bit of cold, So apologize the listeners for that. I caught
- 18:21that at the Capitol. By the way, nothing good comes out of the
- 18:23Capitol. I've been told every every once in a while something good comes out
- 18:26of there. But you know, people, you know you here's some I've
- 18:30had folks say, hey, how is it? Can you decompress now?
- 18:33And I'll be honest with you. I mean, part of it's because I
- 18:34live in Charleston, so at least I got to go home every night and
- 18:37see my family. Not as much as I wanted to. I missed them,
- 18:41but I actually enjoyed the process, to be frank with you. And
- 18:45uh, you know, the section I sat in on the house floor,
- 18:48there was one hundred of us in there, but there was a group of
- 18:51about six guys who are right around me who could kind of, you know,
- 18:52turn around and talk to and just and it was a really really nice
- 18:56group of people who I sat with. So I'll be honest with you,
- 19:00I enjoyed going to work every day. So for whatever that's worth. Now,
- 19:03you were appointed, of course to the seat, and you are going
- 19:08to run for reelection. Yeah, I've already filed, already filed now.
- 19:11I think we talked about that the last time that you were here. So
- 19:15you've been around politics, you know, for a while, and certainly,
- 19:18as you said, living in Charleston and everything, I'm sure you were not
- 19:19a stranger to the capital. Was there anything that surprised you about the whole
- 19:23process? I mean, like I said, you're not a novice to this,
- 19:26although you never really been on the floor during the session. Was there
- 19:29any surprises for you, JB. No, I mean, I really I
- 19:33can say that truthfully, I was not really surprised by any things. I've
- 19:36been to the Capitol quite a bit over the years, and just some different
- 19:40legal issues because my regular job is I'm a lawyer. I represent. I've
- 19:44got my law office downtown. I represent you know, some small business and
- 19:48individuals and just different types of stuff. I've got a pretty varied practice.
- 19:52But I wasn't really surprised. I guess I would say the one thing that
- 19:55kind of maybe it was the most frustrated times was we would usually have a
- 20:00you would call them caucus meetings, either in the mornings before we start the
- 20:03regular session, or you'd have those sometimes before you have a committee meeting,
- 20:07and sometimes you go back there and everybody said they were good with particular issue.
- 20:11Then once you get in the floor, then somebody would all of a
- 20:12sudden have a problem with whatever you're discussing, and then that would sometimes take
- 20:18on a life of its own and kind of spin us off the tracks for
- 20:19a while. So that part could be could be a little bit frustrating when
- 20:22you thought everybody was okay with an issue, then they tell you that they're
- 20:25not. Once again in public, and I think you know, having TV
- 20:27cameras there sometimes makes a difference in how people approach an issue, but that's
- 20:33a small gripe. I wasn't really shocked by anything. And I'll say that
- 20:36the like the House leadership that we had was they were very easy to work
- 20:41with. But that's a tough job as well. I mean, you've got
- 20:44a hundred on the House site, you've got a hundred cats to herd,
- 20:47you've got a hundred different personalities, you've got one hundred people who have and
- 20:51everybody what's important to them is what's important to their constituents back home, or
- 20:55at least it should be. And you know, as like minded as we
- 20:57might think that the the House Chamber is because we have a super majority,
- 21:02everyone's part of the state is a little bit different. Yeah, you know,
- 21:04so what's important to somebody in Hardy County, for example, might be
- 21:08completely different to what's important to somebody who you know, is in Knall County
- 21:12or Cabal County, just depending upon where you live. So those are you
- 21:17know, the issues and making sure that everybody gets hurt up there. That
- 21:21can be tough. Talk about some of the actual legislation highlights, low lights
- 21:26things you're proud of, things that didn't get done that you wish would have
- 21:30gotten across the finish line. Well, I mean, the thing that I
- 21:33went there to focus on the most is jobs in the economy, and it's
- 21:37hard to legislate jobs in economy. You can try to do things to make
- 21:40things smoother for the folks who live here, try to attract businesses or try
- 21:44to attract people who live here. You know. Probably the biggest thing that
- 21:48I think that we did that people paid the most attention to was finally taking
- 21:53care of that the Social Security income tax we have in the state, which
- 21:56was just atrocious. I mean, I never could understand why we tack people's
- 22:00Social Security benefits as an income in this state. So thank goodness, we
- 22:03finally got rid of that one, you know, way to pay raise for
- 22:07teachers and service personnel and state police, which I think was deserved because you
- 22:11know, their PIA costs just keep going up, so you know, for
- 22:15them it's really it's almost just like a cost of living increase. But at
- 22:18least we help them with that issue. And then, you know, beyond
- 22:22that, we had you know, I wouldn't say anything earth shattering. I've
- 22:26had some people see some complaints where people said, oh, you all didn't
- 22:29get anything done up there, But I mean, we passed two hundred and
- 22:30seventy nine bills. And it's my kind of philosophy with government is probably frankly,
- 22:36the less laws you make the better. By and large, I mean,
- 22:38you want to pass good laws. You want to do things that make
- 22:41a difference in people's lives and make their lives better. The government doesn't have
- 22:45all the answers, but we passed almost three hundred bills up there, and
- 22:49a lot of them weren't more things that were going to change the world,
- 22:53but they make things a little bit better in everyday lives. And like one
- 22:56of the things that you know, kind of flies under the radar. But
- 23:00I was most proud of is we finally put together an annual funding source for
- 23:03our volunteer fire departments who were hanging on by a threat across the state,
- 23:08and those volunteer fire departments for a lot of smaller communities and a lot of
- 23:11counties, really county wide, that's the only life saving source they have.
- 23:15If something like that happens to the NFL fire through home, you can be
- 23:18kind of spoil. Let me just jump in here. You can be kind
- 23:21of spoiled maybe living in the canalv Oh my gosh. We don't know how
- 23:25luck we are. But when you get into some of these extremely rural areas
- 23:30and those volunteer firemen I mean, and they're everything as far as emergency services,
- 23:36that is all you've gotten. Let's just say Caboll County had a real
- 23:37bad of wreck yesterday with some fire trucks. We've got those folks in our
- 23:41minds. But yeah, I mean, those volunteer fire departments, they are
- 23:45the lifeline and a lot of counties in the States. So we finally put
- 23:48together a source of income for them that is more dependable. So that was
- 23:52something that you know, a lot of listeners probably wouldn't pay much attention to
- 23:55that bill, but that one was really important to me in a personal basis.
- 23:57We also did some things make sure that deputy sheriffs and municipal police officers
- 24:03and firefighters, if they suffered disability on the job, we did a better
- 24:07job for them making sure that their benefits are increased to where they should be.
- 24:12I mean. So there were a lot of smaller, smaller bills like
- 24:15that that the average person may not pay attention to, but they were good
- 24:18things. I mean, we increase Medicaid coverage for dental care for people.
- 24:21Again, is that a huge ear shattering bill. No, But for if
- 24:23you're the dentist and you need an extra thousand dollars for dental care and you
- 24:26can't afford it, that's going to matter to you. So again, Dave,
- 24:30you know, the two biggest ones I think were the Social Security income
- 24:33tax and the pay rays, and then the rest of them were a mix
- 24:37of a bunch of things that maybe more monitor small things, but I hope
- 24:41that they make a difference in people's lives, and I hope they make the
- 24:44state a little more accessible and get people moving here. And again I'll say
- 24:47I'm an optimist and always have them. In the past couple of years,
- 24:51we've had net migration into the state, which hasn't happened for a long long
- 24:53time. Now. We did technically lose people still because our death rate out
- 24:59passed are ou paced our birth rate, but we've had more people moving into
- 25:03West Virginia the past couple of years than leaving the state. That's a huge
- 25:07turnaround. I mean, there's just certain people Delegate that I don't know why,
- 25:11and I always I never discourage anybody from texting, and love my textras,
- 25:15love my callers, whatever. But there's just certain people that I get
- 25:18to listen to the show that will not wrap their head around that. And
- 25:22it's it's fact. And I have a realtor that comes on my show once
- 25:26a month to talk about real estate issues, my buddy Rich the realtor.
- 25:29UH and living in Putnam County where I do, there's not enough houses.
- 25:33There's enough houses in Kanaalac County for that matter, for the people that are
- 25:36coming in. And I just don't know why it is people just keep beating
- 25:38their head against the wall and saying it's not true. It is true people
- 25:41are moving into the area. Yeah, it is true. And again it
- 25:45doesn't mean things are perfect. Like I'm not looking I'm not looking through the
- 25:48through rose colored glasses. But you know, I mean, one negative thing
- 25:53from the session I can say personally is I thought we would do more for
- 25:56childcare, which I think we should be doing. I think arest our care
- 26:00system. We did pass a few bills to help foster care, but I
- 26:02think that's a that's a huge heavy lift. We still got to pay more
- 26:04attention to. So it's not that there aren't things that we still don't need
- 26:07to fix, but overall things aren't. Things are getting better in West Virginia.
- 26:11I mean, is it going to be an immediate turnaround. No,
- 26:14But I mean, dad going if we ever had as many large job announcements
- 26:17as we've had the past three or four years in the state of West Virginia,
- 26:19I mean, there's there's no way. I mean that investment that New
- 26:22Corps made, We've never had anything close to what New Corps announcing up in
- 26:26that Mason County Jackson County area. I'd like to have some of that stuff
- 26:30a little closer to Canall County. But you know, still that will help
- 26:33this whole region. I mean, yeah, everybody wants to you know,
- 26:34in their in their town obviously, but but what I mean if you can't
- 26:38have it there, at least that that is still tax money that's coming into
- 26:41West Virginia for these companies. Well, those people will come to Charleston to
- 26:45shop and eat, I mean, and their kids will play sports here,
- 26:48and so that will that will have an impact on us. Delakat jb Acres
- 26:51is here to Dave Alan showing five Ady lie Bright to part of our bridge
- 26:53Valley. If you're interested in proving your company's IT workforce may want to know.

- 27:11I got a couple texts here for you. JB One says, of those
- 27:12two hundred or whatever bills that were passed, do any of them increase revenue
- 27:18for the state. Well, I mean increase revenue in terms of if we're
- 27:22hopefully making our business climate better. When you say increase revenue, I mean
- 27:26I think we did pass some stuff that will help with that. And you
- 27:27see increase revenue. If people don't get their Social Security income tax, that
- 27:33means they have more money in their pocket. I mean that'll be more money
- 27:34they have available to spend in the local economy. So that will increase revenue.
- 27:40So if you're talking about, you know, how can the government increase
- 27:44revenue, then you make sure people have more money themselves and the businesses have
- 27:48keep more of their money. So I think in that way some of the
- 27:51bills did. Yes. Text says, please ask JB if you voted for
- 27:56the bill to allow kids not to have to be immunized. So yeah,
- 27:59I voted against the overall bill. I was actually daved. I was okay,
- 28:03And that's one where that probably would take an hour to get in the
- 28:06weeds in the whole bill. That's a hard when you're like, hey,
- 28:07in ten seconds, tell me which thing about vaccine's bit JB or the bill.
- 28:11But I was actually okay with a pure religious exemption because forty five other
- 28:15states have it. A couple more states beyond that allow for just a personal
- 28:18objection for no reason, and not that many people take a religious exemption.
- 28:22But what that bill turned into is it actually does not have a religious exemption
- 28:26in it at all. It simply carves out private and parochial schools and also
- 28:32virtual schools. So now potentially an entire school could not require immunizations as long
- 28:38as your kid has the money opportunity to attend there. But if your kid
- 28:41is a public school student, they get treated completely differently. And I'll be
- 28:45honest with you, as a lawyer, I said in the house, Flora
- 28:47said, I'm not sure if this is even satisfies equal protection. I mean,
- 28:52because if you're a family who lives in Clay County with no school choice,
- 28:55really, but you live somewhere else where you can pay to send your
- 28:57kid to private school, when you get treated diferent, really, you know.
- 29:00So I'm not sure if how that's going to work after every gets challenged.
- 29:03But yeah, and I believe the vaccines work are what I would call
- 29:07traditional vaccines. I mean, the the COVID vaccine thing in a lot of
- 29:11ways was a pr disaster for our country. But you know, you're talking
- 29:15about polio vaccine for example, or going back before that smallpox vaccine. Uh,
- 29:19I mean, those things worked. I mean, there's no doubt about
- 29:22it. Doesn't mean the vaccine injuries aren't real. It doesn't mean that we
- 29:25should be respectful of that because that happened. But the overall effect is vaccines
- 29:30did make public health better. So the traditional vaccines I'm in favor of.
- 29:33And I don't know if having an entire school potentially where no one has to
- 29:37be vaccinated is the best idea. I understand people's freedom and they want to
- 29:41make the decisions for the kids. But I do think that childhood immunizations and
- 29:45again the traditional ones. I do understand some people are concerned because it seems
- 29:49like every couple of years they just add something else to the schedule. Uh
- 29:53yeah, And that's the quite And again, just as you said, it's
- 29:56another it's subject for another entire show. We's been a now so talking on
- 30:00this. But you know, you and I are roughly in the same age
- 30:03group. And if you look compared the numbers of the vaccines that we had
- 30:07as a kid growing up in the nineteen I had in the nineteen seventies anyway,
- 30:11as opposed to the vaccines that kids have now, there's and I don't
- 30:15care which side of the fenchure on, there's a whole lot more of them
- 30:17now. It does seem like I saw it on paper. I don't have
- 30:19the number in front of me, but I was looking at it. I'll
- 30:22say, man, there's a whole lot more than there used to be.
- 30:23And maybe that's a good thing. Maybe it's a bad thing. I don't
- 30:26know. Yeah, And I even said this in the house floora I said,
- 30:29if we want a debate, maybe which vaccine should be required that's a
- 30:33different debate. But I think if we're going to say something like the measles
- 30:36vaccine isn't beneficial. And again I do recognize the vaccine injuries do occur,
- 30:41But I made this distinction in the house floor. I said, look,
- 30:44there are about two hundred and fifty thousand to four hundred thousand people every year
- 30:47who died just from simple medical errors. Like did you just go to the
- 30:49hospital and somebody makes a mistake and it kills you? I said, But
- 30:52no one here in the house when I said this, no one. If
- 30:56you got a phone call saying that you had a loved one who was in
- 30:59a serious accident, you wouldn't say, don't take them to the hospital because
- 31:00they might die from medical ware, I said, you would say, Holy
- 31:03col get them, help take him to the hospital. And to me,
- 31:06the vaccines are the same way, where again the traditional ones, I know
- 31:11that some injuries occur, but overall, the beneficial effect I think greatly.
- 31:14I don't think it does greatly outweigh the potential for harm. Now again,
- 31:18if we think that maybe we're demanding kids get too many vaccines, I'd have
- 31:22that conversation differently. But anyway, on that that question. Short answer,
- 31:26I'd love to talk more about it. I did vote against that overall bill.
- 31:33Now, if it had been crafted differently, maybe there could have been
- 31:34ways. I was supporting some exceptions, but not the way it came out.
- 31:37And that's what happens sometimes is people feel a certain way about certain things,
- 31:41but maybe it's just not the best bill in the world. Well yeah,
- 31:44and I mean people will you know, I mean, I can't tell
- 31:47how many times you know this has happened. And the parties accuse each other
- 31:48of this. And I'm not saying it's Democrats only or Republicans to do it.
- 31:52Like, so let's say that the Democrats, just as a crazy example,
- 31:56they propose put a bill out that said, let's give our teachers a
- 31:59one billion dollar pay raise, and we said, you know what, we
- 32:01can't afford that that's too much, and we vote against it. And then
- 32:05they said, well, you Republicans vote against teachers today, right. I
- 32:07mean, that's a ridiculous example. But you know, so on that something
- 32:10like the vaccine bill, people might say, oh, well, you vote
- 32:13against either freedom or you voted to kill children, Like that's the kind of
- 32:16crazy writer care here. On either side. Welcome to twenty twenty four.
- 32:20So, I mean, I do think you know, I'd be happy to
- 32:22talk to you about about that issue or any other one. I mean,
- 32:24some of these things are a lot more nuanced in the weeds than you think.
- 32:29So anyway, it's that was one where there was a lot of discussion
- 32:31and debate, a couple more texts where we let you go Texas as an
- 32:35independent. I do not like social issues being forced into people. Stay out
- 32:37of local sports, stop the war and women and the attacks on libraries did
- 32:42not do anything changing the Public Service Commission. We want to vote who's on
- 32:45that board. Well, I mean, I'll say again, you know,
- 32:50not every bill that goes through there I was in favor of. I didn't
- 32:52vote vote for everything that maybe was a culture issue, but it doesn't mean
- 32:57that they're not important to a lot of people in the state. And again,
- 33:00you know, the demographics of the constituencies are all different, so there
- 33:02might be people again to use a different county, you know, maybe somebody
- 33:06in Mineral County really cares about an issue that somebody in Charleston says, who
- 33:10cares about that? But to the Mineral County delegation, they might say,
- 33:13Look, I was sent here to deal with this particular issue, so that's
- 33:16just part of the process, you know. And I voted. Look,
- 33:20I voted against several Republican bills up there. I mean I don't I voted
- 33:23with Republicans most of the time. I'm a Republican and a conservative. But
- 33:28like that Legislative Auditor bill that went through where they were changing the powers and
- 33:31duties of the legislative auditor, I voted against Republicans on that one. I
- 33:37didn't think that was a good bill for some different reasons. So you know,
- 33:39I've voted my conscience and what I thought was best. But you know,
- 33:43if someone writes in and again, I'd like to have a conversation with
- 33:45them besides just having a SoundBite. But if someone says they want to stop
- 33:51a cultural issue, you know, there's a lot of people in the state
- 33:53who would disagree, and you've got to come up with a compromise on those
- 33:57Those things are not unimportant to a lot of other people. Before we let
- 34:00you go, this will be your final thing because you are running for reelection
- 34:05unopposed in the primary. In the primary probably will have an opponent of the
- 34:09general. What's the message that you want to get out to people even though
- 34:14you don't have opposition. But what's the message you like to talk about to
- 34:16kind of sell jbacres On, Well, I mean during the session, as
- 34:20busy as we were, you know, I wasn't getting to do my real
- 34:22job really at all. But I was always responsive to people. I mean
- 34:25I responded to emails and phone calls. You know, there were people who
- 34:30called me from outside the district and I would even I would call them back,
- 34:32even if they couldn't vote for against me, and even though they disagreed
- 34:36with me. I'm someone who likes to talk to folks about the issues.
- 34:38I'm an accessible delegate, and my focus really as I'm making West Virginia a
- 34:44better place again, my focus is on jobs and the economy and making sure
- 34:47that we grow this state and we you know, not just keep as many
- 34:51people here as possible, to bring as many new people here as we can.
- 34:54And you want to talk about raising revenue, that's how you do it.
- 34:57You get more taxpayers here, more businesses. So that's gonna be my
- 35:00focus always. And I'm always someone who's going to sit down and talk to

- 41:15her immunity works. When you get sick, go to whatever alternative medicine guru
- 41:20you follow for vaccine. I don't think that was aimed at me. I
- 41:22don't think, because I have given my opinion on that I am not anti
- 41:28vax by any stretch of the imagination. That is just that's just me,
- 41:34all right, Okay, let me move on. So yesterday talk Line hoppyhead
- 41:40on as his guests Ken Kendrick. Now, who is Ken Kendrick? You
- 41:45ask? Well? He is a semi regular on talk Line, one of
- 41:49the founders of Country Roads Trust, which is the group that, among other
- 41:52things, facilitates the NIL program at WVU He's also a managing partner and owner
- 41:58of the Arizona Diamondbacks, major league based ball team, the team that won
- 42:00the National League Pennant this past year before losing in the series to the Rangers.
- 42:06He's also a major major donor to West Virginia University and as a WVU
- 42:12alum. Now he was on with Hoppey and was asking about the chances of
- 42:17former coach Bob Huggins possibly returning to the Mountaineers as either a coach or maybe
- 42:24some other role with university. Well, I'll say if Ken Kendrick has anything
- 42:30to do with it, and let's face it, he does, because money
- 42:34talks. It ain't happening now or ever. Now. This all comes on
- 42:39a day when WVU athletic director Rin Baker said that head basketball coach Josh Eilert
- 42:45was not the answer moving forward and that a national search for a new basketball
- 42:50coach would begin. So let's review just a bit. Coach Huggins submitted his
- 42:54resignation last June to the university following is the UI arrest. A few weeks
- 43:01earlier, he was suspended and was facing a million dollar salary reduction after using
- 43:07disparaging remarks about gays and Catholics on a radio program out of Cincinnati, and
- 43:15in July, coach Huggins demanded reinstatement. Yes, he wasn't coach at that
- 43:20point, and so you know how that story goes now now, Ken Kendrick
- 43:23was on with Happy yesterday and said that, among other things, let me
- 43:29give a couple paraphrased quotes here from Kent Kendrick about Huggins coming back. Quote
- 43:34again, sort of kept paraphrasing for time purposes here. I think WVU was
- 43:38too lenient with him. Had he worked for me, he would have not
- 43:43had a job after the homophobic remarks. Continuing he lost his job as a
- 43:49result of a drunken stupor, and again paraphrasing here. You can hear Hendrick's
- 43:53complete statements as part of the story posted by Brad at wv Metronews dot com.
- 44:00Wasn't done there, and again I'm paraphrasing. He said, it's the
- 44:06second time talking about Huggins. Second time he lost his job because of drunkenness.
- 44:13He was let go by the University of Cincinnati for exactly the same reason
- 44:17I think, says Kendrick. He has no place in the lives of young
- 44:23men who deserve quality leadership, and I would wonder about the mental capacity of
- 44:30any leader who would consider hiring Huggins for a coaching position. Now, this
- 44:37was all on hoppy yesterday. You can go back and read it on Brad's
- 44:39story w metronews dot com. But he wasn't done there. The hits kept
- 44:44coming, Kendrick continued. Instead of being in the Hall of Fame, Bob
- 44:49Huggins should be in the Hall of shame. Alcoholism is a disease, and
- 44:55it's a disease he's had for a long time. His future with WVU Sports
- 45:01is totally at an end, and anyone who thinks Huggins should be considered for
- 45:06a coaching position or a return to WVU should seek counseling. This Ken Kendrick
- 45:15heavy duty stuff yesterday on talk line. I didn't get to cat. I've
- 45:20heard some to beginning to the interview that I got busy and went back.
- 45:22But I went back and listened the whole thing this morning, and it is
- 45:25some heavy, heavy duty stuff from a heavy heavy hitter. When I have
- 45:30more on this, I do need to take a break though. Text to

- 48:42says Dave, you say you never talked sports except when it's a negative
- 48:45about WVU and a positive about Marshall. The WV win in baseball against Marshall.
- 48:50I got that text yesterday because I had predicted on Tuesday. I said,
- 48:54I said something to the effect of as as my Marshall thunder and Herd
- 48:58beats West Virginia, Universe, it didn't happen. Of course, I didn't
- 49:01get a chance to read the text about it yesterday, because when you have
- 49:04Greg Thomas on the show, you don't get a lot of opportunity to read
- 49:06all the text I had about thirty unread texts yesterday that were pertaining to what
- 49:10he was talking about, not pertaining to what he was But yes, West
- 49:14Virginia University did beat Marshall my thundering Herd on Tuesday at Go Ballpark better Team
- 49:20one. And you know, I'm one of those people, can you can
- 49:23you can be a fan of both. I mean I went to Marshall,
- 49:25I'm gonna lean Herd, but you can be you can be both, all
- 49:30right. So getting back to this Ken Kendrick thing, though no punches were
- 49:36pulled at all during this interview. And when it comes to Huggins, I
- 49:44mean he did it. He entered a twelve month alcohol diversion program, and
- 49:47if you've seen him lately, I mean he's lost a ton of weight and
- 49:51quite frankly, looks great. And it was being floated around yesterday that he
- 49:55may may be in the run for the head coaching job at Louisville. Their
- 50:02head coach, Kenny Payne was fired after two seasons as head coach there,
- 50:07and there were some reports that Huggins could be considered for that job. One
- 50:10thing I learned and what I took from yesterday, he ain't coming back in
- 50:15any form or fashion, to quote the governor to West Virginia University. I
- 50:19agree that Huggins should not coach there again, but once again, if he's
- 50:22proven that he's sober and can be trusted, I have no I would have
- 50:28no problem with seeing him come back in some sort of an ambassador role with
- 50:30the university after some time, not right away, but in a couple of
- 50:35years. And whether you like it or not, Coach Huggins will forever be
- 50:39associated with West Virginia University, even if he even if he never sets foot
- 50:45on campus. You know, I don't pretend to know Bob Huggins well personally.
- 50:49I've been at a few events where he was. All I'll say about
- 50:53that is is I wish him the best in going forward. I really really
- 50:59do so. But go back and listen to that interview if you get a
- 51:02chance. Bradstorywv Metronews dot com, Texas. Ken Kendrick is one of those
