- 0:04Speaker 1: Here we are off the Edge with Cam Jordans Man.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm grace with the presidence.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Of a guy from Louisiana.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I swear he was from New Orleans and found out
- 0:14Speaker 2: he's from the West Bank.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I digress a.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Man who went to LSU, you know, played thirteen seasons
- 0:21Speaker 2: in the NFL. A pro bowler, my rookiear in the league.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Twenty eleven podcaster term media mogul savant if you will,
- 0:31Speaker 2: Ryan Clark appreciates you, big dog, for coming on the podcast.
- 0:34Speaker 1: You're a West.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Banker, Yeah, man from the West Bank. Man.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I grew up in Murrero and my family moved to
- 0:41Speaker 4: Terrytown and you know too, Like being a West Banker
- 0:44Speaker 4: is a sensitive subject for people who are from the
- 0:48Speaker 4: greater city of New Orleans. And so anytime I would
- 0:52Speaker 4: say something negative about the Saints or I'd pissed people
- 0:55Speaker 4: down there off, the first thing they'd say is that
- 0:58Speaker 4: they don't claim me because I'm from the West Bank,
- 1:01Speaker 4: which I'm cool with.
- 1:01Speaker 3: I mean, my area code was still five O four,
- 1:04Speaker 3: so I ain't tripping.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Right right if you're from the best bank, you know
- 1:08Speaker 2: over there at Harvey and everything else. Yeah, that's the
- 1:13Speaker 2: movie theater I go to, I prefer because not everybody's
- 1:16Speaker 2: willing to go to the West Bank, you know.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean listen, you know, it's like it's one
- 1:22Speaker 4: of those crazy things that if you're not from there,
- 1:25Speaker 4: you actually don't understand it. And they're probably people listening
- 1:28Speaker 4: to this conversation and thinking, like, what's the West Bank,
- 1:31Speaker 4: what's the East Bank or whatever it is? And you
- 1:34Speaker 4: would yeah, and you would think it's only separated by
- 1:37Speaker 4: the Mississippi River.
- 1:39Speaker 3: It wouldn't be that big of a deal.
- 1:41Speaker 4: But like if you ask people like Tying who you've
- 1:44Speaker 4: played with, who played for Sata, which is the rival
- 1:47Speaker 4: school to the high school that I went to, Archbishop Shaw,
- 1:51Speaker 4: Like you find out man, that people take that jug
- 1:54Speaker 4: extremely serious.
- 1:55Speaker 1: No doubt.
- 1:56Speaker 2: You know, I think we played with the same teammates.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Keenan Lewis, Who's who's a west Baker? You know you
- 2:02Speaker 2: played with the I played at the Saints. Uh yeah,
- 2:07Speaker 2: west Bank is is a super serious thing. Again, It's
- 2:09Speaker 2: literally just a bridge. It's a five minute drive from
- 2:13Speaker 2: downtown New Orleans to the West.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Con But wait, bro let me tell you.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Let me tell you this is Keenan got mad at
- 2:19Speaker 4: me recently and DM me like, really hot, bro, really
- 2:24Speaker 4: mad A man, I haven't heard from Keenan. Shoot, maybe
- 2:27Speaker 4: since he became a saint or since this, you know,
- 2:30Speaker 4: football career was over. I was just telling this story
- 2:33Speaker 4: about Antonio Brown and how like pretty much the whole
- 2:37Speaker 4: entire defense tried to fight Antonio one day. It was
- 2:40Speaker 4: the day he signed this deal. Bro, he got that
- 2:42Speaker 4: new money. Him and Keenan doing one on ones, And
- 2:45Speaker 4: the way I explained the story, Keenan didn't remember it
- 2:49Speaker 4: like that.
- 2:50Speaker 3: And what's crazy.
- 2:51Speaker 4: About it is so many of my other old teammates
- 2:54Speaker 4: remembered it exactly the same way. Like on the post,
- 2:57Speaker 4: they're saying, man, I remember that day, just how it happened.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Wo right.
- 3:02Speaker 4: And then here was Keenan hot with me, being like, Bro,
- 3:06Speaker 4: you know how you talk to Bro.
- 3:07Speaker 3: You ain't gonna me Bro, Hey, brother, you ain't gonna
- 3:10Speaker 3: play with me.
- 3:11Speaker 4: And like so much so me and Keenan got on
- 3:13Speaker 4: the phone to have to try to like hash this
- 3:16Speaker 4: story out, and like that's the crazy thing about being
- 3:19Speaker 4: in the media or podcasting or whatever it is.
- 3:22Speaker 3: It's like always say.
- 3:24Speaker 4: All of these stories aren't just our stories, so you
- 3:27Speaker 4: do have to be like extremely careful how you tell them.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Absolutely, but the fact you had the co signed by
- 3:33Speaker 2: a whole bunch of teammates. But uh, man, like I said,
- 3:44Speaker 2: I appreciate you hopping on the pod you know, pivot
- 3:47Speaker 2: too or what even got you in the media space?
- 3:49Speaker 2: You know you you went from like the old school
- 3:51Speaker 2: way of football of like there's no such thing as
- 3:54Speaker 2: like social media. There's definitely no such thing as it's
- 3:57Speaker 2: twitch and streaming, live streaming, pod casting during the season.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Guys used to have a vlog in like twenty ten eleven,
- 4:04Speaker 2: and you get.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Chasted on the team.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I'm just that old.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I'm saying. My rookie year, there was a.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Guy maybe twenty twelve had a vlog of a training
- 4:14Speaker 2: camp and the coaches like flipped their lid, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 2: like what are we doing? You know, this is how
- 4:19Speaker 2: we do football, and now it's who doesn't have a podcast?
- 4:24Speaker 4: Yeah, So I will say this, man, the Steelers were
- 4:26Speaker 4: really good about it. So my entire time in Pittsburgh,
- 4:30Speaker 4: I had a radio show and eventually had this TV
- 4:34Speaker 4: show that would come on every two weeks on KDKA
- 4:37Speaker 4: that was hosted with one of the local news guys.
- 4:40Speaker 3: And so I always was into the media and then
- 4:43Speaker 3: you know how it is.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Cam O'Hara was back then in the off season and
- 4:46Speaker 4: it's still a little bit of that now in the
- 4:48Speaker 4: off season, ESPN and bring you in an NFL.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Network, what would bring you in? And I would do
- 4:53Speaker 3: pretty well, you know, during the car washes and all
- 4:55Speaker 3: those things. And so the Super Bowl in New Orleans,
- 4:59Speaker 3: San Francisco, Baltimore.
- 5:01Speaker 4: I tweeted one day that I wanted to do like
- 5:03Speaker 4: a TV internship.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I wanted to learn the business, just be a regular
- 5:07Speaker 3: analyst for Space. And Trey Wingo introduces me.
- 5:10Speaker 4: To Seth Market marketan who is my boss now at ESPN,
- 5:14Speaker 4: and I tell them what I wanted to do. I
- 5:16Speaker 4: was like, I want to work for an entire week.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I want to get my schedule like the analysts do.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I want to be on every show, whatever it is.
- 5:21Speaker 4: So I do that and the agent calls me the
- 5:23Speaker 4: week after and says, I believe I can get you
- 5:26Speaker 4: paid to do TV while you play now like you're right,
- 5:29Speaker 4: Like if you had a vlog back in those days,
- 5:31Speaker 4: it was a big deal. So imagine me walking into
- 5:34Speaker 4: the Pittsburgh Steel With saying I'm going to sign this
- 5:36Speaker 4: TV contract and my first contract was for forty days
- 5:40Speaker 4: a year, so I worked in the off season, I
- 5:41Speaker 4: worked in the bye weeks. I did NFL Live every
- 5:45Speaker 4: Tuesday from the building, and they really helped me with that.
- 5:48Speaker 3: But they also understood like how.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Dedicated I was to football as well, but I was
- 5:53Speaker 4: building an opportunity for a second career.
- 5:55Speaker 3: So that's where it started.
- 5:57Speaker 4: And then I retired on TV for ESPN while accepting
- 6:02Speaker 4: my job for my next career at the Combine after
- 6:07Speaker 4: my last year.
- 6:07Speaker 3: So it was really cool.
- 6:08Speaker 4: How I got into it, and I like to say
- 6:11Speaker 4: that I was sort of like first of one of
- 6:13Speaker 4: those dudes who started planning for that post football career
- 6:18Speaker 4: while playing very publicly, you know, to that end.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll say, guys like you.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Uh while while I was, you know, a pup in
- 6:27Speaker 2: the league, I was like, we're looking at guys like you,
- 6:29Speaker 2: I I.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Taylor, you know, you know. And then of course Big
- 6:35Speaker 1: Swag hit the scene.
- 6:36Speaker 2: And worked as well. You know, Marcus spears. It must
- 6:40Speaker 2: be a losing anything, but.
- 6:42Speaker 3: We like, we like to talk.
- 6:44Speaker 4: You've been on there long enough, bro, you know, we
- 6:46Speaker 4: ain't never been shy about talking.
- 6:48Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, and then the person and
- 6:50Speaker 3: the personalities.
- 6:51Speaker 4: I do think too, just with the ways that we are,
- 6:54Speaker 4: I think the personalities translated well to TV. Like for you,
- 6:58Speaker 4: we've watched you do interview your entire career, and I'm
- 7:01Speaker 4: pretty sure most times you finished speaking, somebody tells you
- 7:04Speaker 4: you're going to be great on TV or people told
- 7:06Speaker 4: you that early on in your career. And so when
- 7:09Speaker 4: people start to plant that bug, I think it makes
- 7:12Speaker 4: you start to focus on how do I start building that?
- 7:16Speaker 3: And in your case, you know you've.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Done a great job, not only with this. I've seen
- 7:19Speaker 4: you work the Super Bowl.
- 7:20Speaker 3: I've seen you, you.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Know, be on different networks and show people you can
- 7:25Speaker 4: do it. And so now when you transition you can
- 7:27Speaker 4: have some of those options. So kudos to you as well,
- 7:30Speaker 4: you know, a Hall of Fame career, but still planning
- 7:32Speaker 4: to do things afterwards.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Yeah, you know.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I tell people I'm like, I'm overly obsessive about things
- 7:40Speaker 2: that I care about and football I'm overly obsessive. And
- 7:44Speaker 2: I was like, you know, they're like, oh, for every person,
- 7:47Speaker 2: I was like, oh, you're really good on TV.
- 7:48Speaker 1: You should do that. No, all I want to do
- 7:50Speaker 1: is hit people until I can't hit people anymore.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And then you know, but in the eventuality of one day,
- 7:56Speaker 2: you know it's over.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm glad that you know that.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I've been working Super Bowl since before I was it
- 8:02Speaker 2: was cool to even work Super Bowls. You know, before
- 8:04Speaker 2: the it was a car wash or to get paid
- 8:07Speaker 2: to even work super Bowl because as a defensive lineman
- 8:10Speaker 2: coming out of the Saints, it's not the most marketable team.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I'll let your name was Drew Brees in twenty eleven.
- 8:16Speaker 2: You know, we've got way better, way better.
- 8:19Speaker 4: And also too, you got to thank Cam and like,
- 8:22Speaker 4: this was my mindset, right. I knew I didn't want
- 8:25Speaker 4: to just be like one of the rotational pieces of
- 8:28Speaker 4: the media where you might see me on this show,
- 8:31Speaker 4: you might see me on that show, but you never
- 8:32Speaker 4: truly get a foothold in the game to where you
- 8:35Speaker 4: have your own space, you have your own brand.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I wasn't a quarterback.
- 8:40Speaker 4: I wasn't going to be a Hall of Fame player,
- 8:42Speaker 4: and so I had to understand those things and get
- 8:45Speaker 4: into the business the.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Best way I knew. How while my name was still hot.
- 8:50Speaker 3: You know, they're going to be some.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Players whose careers are so great, whose names are so
- 8:54Speaker 4: big that they could take some time off and then
- 8:56Speaker 4: come back to TV and be received extremely well or
- 9:00Speaker 4: be welcomed into the sort of jobs that they feel
- 9:03Speaker 4: that they deserved. I didn't think that was going to
- 9:05Speaker 4: be something I had a chance or an opportunity to do,
- 9:08Speaker 4: and I think that was why I planned the way
- 9:10Speaker 4: I did.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Mmm.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I mean you worked your way up, man, you took
- 9:15Speaker 2: over and now you know, co host of the ESPN
- 9:18Speaker 2: as analyst, co host of The Pivot. You know you
- 9:21Speaker 2: wanted you want an Emmy. Like, in my mind, there's
- 9:24Speaker 2: a couple of guys that sort of like fit that
- 9:26Speaker 2: mode of transitioning beyond football as a player, and you're
- 9:31Speaker 2: definitely one of them, you know. Nate Burrowson is another one,
- 9:34Speaker 2: you know for sure, But you're in that category. Bro,
- 9:37Speaker 2: you want you want an Emmy? What does that even
- 9:39Speaker 2: feel like? Can you compare it to something? Because I
- 9:41Speaker 2: mean Pro Bowl, pro bo, I've been to Emmy. I've
- 9:45Speaker 2: never even thought.
- 9:46Speaker 4: About Yeah, you know, like I didn't really think about
- 9:50Speaker 4: it either. You know, it was something it didn't really
- 9:54Speaker 4: feel like that was something that was available to me.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Oh, I got smart sense going off in the background
- 10:03Speaker 3: because I want a celebration. I want to Emmy, you know,
- 10:08Speaker 3: and Cam.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Honestly, I think it all came about because of the
- 10:12Speaker 4: night DeMar Hamlin had his cardiac arrest. I was on
- 10:16Speaker 4: TV when nobody else was on TV to talk about it.
- 10:20Speaker 4: I was on the same network that the injury happened,
- 10:24Speaker 4: and so everybody was fixated on that moment, and it
- 10:28Speaker 4: was just myself and Scott Van Pelt sitting there and
- 10:31Speaker 4: we had to take the world through this therapy session.
- 10:35Speaker 4: You know, I never started a season like I'm gonna
- 10:37Speaker 4: win an Emmy. I never thought that my name was
- 10:39Speaker 4: big enough or I did the sort of work that
- 10:41Speaker 4: was gonna put those eyeballs on me, because I was
- 10:43Speaker 4: just on ESPN and that necessarily wasn't the biggest name.
- 10:47Speaker 4: But I think God prepared me for that opportunity, you know,
- 10:50Speaker 4: like I was one of the very I'm one of
- 10:52Speaker 4: the very few players who had a football injury or
- 10:55Speaker 4: incident almost cost him his life.
- 10:58Speaker 3: You know. I had a doctor walk into my room
- 11:02Speaker 3: and tell me we can't figure out what's wrong with you.
- 11:05Speaker 4: We should pray, and I'm looking at him like, nah, bro,
- 11:07Speaker 4: like you're supposed to do the medicine.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I've been having folks praying for me for months.
- 11:11Speaker 4: You know, like I'm looking. I'm looking to you to
- 11:14Speaker 4: tell me what's wrong with me and figure out a
- 11:16Speaker 4: medical way to get me better. And so I've been
- 11:19Speaker 4: in that position, and I've also been in the position
- 11:22Speaker 4: of knowing, with all of those things going on, I
- 11:24Speaker 4: was willing to risk my life for this game.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Again, you know.
- 11:27Speaker 4: So I understood that, understood what the game means to us,
- 11:31Speaker 4: how much we're willing to give for like you say,
- 11:33Speaker 4: be overly obsessive about it. But I also understood the
- 11:37Speaker 4: human side of it.
- 11:38Speaker 3: You know. I understood my wife telling me after.
- 11:40Speaker 4: I had my surgery that every night she went into
- 11:43Speaker 4: the bathroom and closed the door and cried because she
- 11:46Speaker 4: didn't want me to know how scared she was.
- 11:49Speaker 3: You see what I'm saying.
- 11:50Speaker 4: So I knew what Dumar Hamlin's family could be feeling
- 11:55Speaker 4: at that point in time. I had my teammates come
- 11:57Speaker 4: into my room after my surgery, who had been told I.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Was going to be alright, who had been told I
- 12:03Speaker 3: was going to heal. I witnessed how.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Angry they got up on seeing me and laying eyes
- 12:09Speaker 4: on me and realizing it was so much worse than
- 12:13Speaker 4: what they were being told, right, so much worse than
- 12:16Speaker 4: the communication the training staff was giving them leaving the room,
- 12:20Speaker 4: trying to fight the trainers when they go back to
- 12:23Speaker 4: the facility. And so I was able to wrap sort
- 12:25Speaker 4: of all those experiences up and communicate them in a
- 12:29Speaker 4: way that humanized DeMar Hamlin, that humanized football players, but
- 12:33Speaker 4: also brought people in on the superhuman things that you
- 12:37Speaker 4: guys do and can do each and every week. And
- 12:39Speaker 4: I think that was the reason I got the opportunity
- 12:42Speaker 4: to win it, and that they say, don't say win
- 12:45Speaker 4: it to receive the Emmy. And you know, like I
- 12:49Speaker 4: never really got like a lot of individual awards, you know,
- 12:52Speaker 4: like I'm not gonna be a Hall of Fame player.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I look back on it.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I don't know if my number or like I'll ever
- 12:58Speaker 4: be in any ring of honor, whether that be college,
- 13:00Speaker 4: high school.
- 13:01Speaker 3: The NFL.
- 13:03Speaker 4: And so it was kind of like the first individual
- 13:05Speaker 4: thing I got. But I still just looked at like
- 13:07Speaker 4: what the team had did. I looked at the things
- 13:09Speaker 4: my wife had sacrifice while playing and post career, you know,
- 13:13Speaker 4: I thought about the people I work with every day
- 13:15Speaker 4: and the way that they push me, the opportunities certain
- 13:18Speaker 4: people gave me to be on TV, and I think
- 13:19Speaker 4: that's what it was more about. And you know, it's
- 13:23Speaker 4: one of those things I didn't think about winning it before.
- 13:26Speaker 4: I understand the process now and I think it'd be
- 13:28Speaker 4: cool to win one again, but like, I don't focus
- 13:31Speaker 4: on it because it's kind of like been there, done that.
- 13:34Speaker 4: They can't take it away from me, like forever until
- 13:36Speaker 4: I passed. I'll be a Sports Emmy winner, you know.
- 13:41Speaker 4: And I can live my life with that and think
- 13:43Speaker 4: that that's cool, But you know it, it's about cam.
- 13:45Speaker 3: If I don't have the respect to y'all dudes, bro,
- 13:47Speaker 3: it don't matter.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Like when I get to the game, man, Like how
- 13:51Speaker 4: you know I saw you on the field in Kansas
- 13:52Speaker 4: City and you come dap me up and we can
- 13:54Speaker 4: have those conversations. That means the world to me because
- 13:57Speaker 4: I didn't I wasn't drafted.
- 14:00Speaker 3: You know what I mean. I didn't have this career.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Where everybody has to respect me or will just respect
- 14:08Speaker 4: me based on numbers. So I really appreciate when the
- 14:12Speaker 4: best players in the game, like yourself, do respect what
- 14:15Speaker 4: I do, what I've done in my career or what
- 14:18Speaker 4: I've done on TV, and so I think that's like
- 14:20Speaker 4: the part that matters the most for sure.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I mean that, and you're still you know, you still
- 14:25Speaker 2: were a Pro Bowl player. It's not like you were
- 14:27Speaker 2: a guy who just like you know, did something, did something.
- 14:31Speaker 2: You were part of a vaunted defense and what a
- 14:33Speaker 2: Pro Bowl color player and oh, by the way, one
- 14:36Speaker 2: you know, like one at the highest level. Yeah sure,
- 14:40Speaker 2: that's yeah, So you can't do I'm not going to
- 14:42Speaker 2: just let it, let you belittle yourself in terms of
- 14:44Speaker 2: like I didn't do it.
- 14:45Speaker 1: You were a Pro Bowl player, you know what I'm saying, Like, yeah.
- 14:47Speaker 4: But Cam, but you know, you know how it is,
- 14:50Speaker 4: though Camp, It's like like that there are certain ways
- 14:53Speaker 4: we see ourselves that it's hard to forget what that
- 14:56Speaker 4: felt like, right, Like, like it's hard to it's hard
- 14:59Speaker 4: for me to forget Tom Kafflin telling me there were
- 15:01Speaker 4: other leagues, you know what I'm saying, telling me that
- 15:04Speaker 4: the Canadian that they played football in Canada, or that
- 15:07Speaker 4: they had arena ball, or that maybe you should focus
- 15:11Speaker 4: on special teams and you could get another shot, or
- 15:15Speaker 4: you know, like we just don't know if you can
- 15:17Speaker 4: hold up for sixteen games, and it's like it's so
- 15:22Speaker 4: cliche to have on a chip on your shoulder.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I actually didn't, you know, like I didn't have this chip.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Like for me, it was like it was processing all
- 15:31Speaker 4: the things I had been told I couldn't do and
- 15:34Speaker 4: trying to figure out a way that you could do
- 15:36Speaker 4: them if those perceived limitations were real. And like I
- 15:42Speaker 4: love that, like about the journey and so yeah, I'm
- 15:45Speaker 4: so blessed to have accomplished what I've accomplished and played
- 15:47Speaker 4: with the people I played with. But I said what
- 15:49Speaker 4: I said about you as a player and the respect
- 15:52Speaker 4: and the appreciation you give me, the love that you
- 15:54Speaker 4: give me, How grateful I am for that.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Because when Troy Polamalu said, is that.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Like you know, calls me when he gets into the
- 16:03Speaker 4: Hall of Fame and say we did it, we made it,
- 16:06Speaker 4: you know what I mean? Like that meant the world
- 16:08Speaker 4: to me, you know what I mean When when he
- 16:11Speaker 4: called me when he won the Defensive Player of the
- 16:14Speaker 4: Year in twenty ten and was like, bro, we won it.
- 16:18Speaker 3: You know, like those things are important.
- 16:20Speaker 4: When Sean Taylor before he passed, was asked who his
- 16:23Speaker 4: favorite professional athlete was and he said, Ryan Clark, you know,
- 16:28Speaker 4: like for an undrafted dude, man for a dude that
- 16:30Speaker 4: was told he couldn't do it. And I think for
- 16:33Speaker 4: someone who basically put like individual accolades out of mind
- 16:38Speaker 4: in one of those senses that I felt like I
- 16:40Speaker 4: would never get him. You know, it's like you almost
- 16:43Speaker 4: convince yourself like I'm not getting those things because those
- 16:46Speaker 4: things aren't meant for me, or I'm not making it
- 16:48Speaker 4: to Pro Bowls because people don't see me that way.
- 16:51Speaker 4: You know, I remember walking bro one year, man, I
- 16:54Speaker 4: think it was the year we went to the Super
- 16:55Speaker 4: Bowl and won it. I didn't make the Pro Bowl
- 16:58Speaker 4: that year, and I wasn't even disappointed because I guess
- 17:01Speaker 4: I just never expected to. And Coach Tomlin's walking with
- 17:05Speaker 4: me away from meeting, you know when they tell you know, Cam,
- 17:08Speaker 4: you know you made the Pro Bowl. However, however, it
- 17:11Speaker 4: goes when you're celebrating the people that make it. And
- 17:14Speaker 4: he put his own around me, and he goes, what's
- 17:16Speaker 4: more important than making the Pro Bowl is working with
- 17:20Speaker 4: a group of men that know you gave him Pro
- 17:24Speaker 4: Bowl caliber play the entire season. So those small affirmations
- 17:30Speaker 4: and confirmations became like part of the reason I worked
- 17:34Speaker 4: so hard. Uh, And so I guess I don't really
- 17:36Speaker 4: necessarily always need people to talk about the career in
- 17:40Speaker 4: that way because I feel like I earned the respect
- 17:42Speaker 4: of the people that matter.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Stay tuned, we'll be right back. I'm gonna start leaning
- 17:48Speaker 2: on your analyst work. What did you see in week
- 17:50Speaker 2: seven that you liked? Like, let'sen, I'm gonna be a
- 17:52Speaker 2: big pivot right there.
- 17:53Speaker 4: From okay, from the from the from the week just overall. Yeah,
- 17:57Speaker 4: over I mean I think that I think the first.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Thing start with Lamar bro.
- 18:03Speaker 4: You know, Lamar is getting in the Ravens, and I'll
- 18:06Speaker 4: be honest that you can. When they signed Dereck Henry,
- 18:09Speaker 4: I was like, all right, like, what does that do?
- 18:11Speaker 4: We're talking about a team that could always run the football, right.
- 18:14Speaker 4: It wasn't like the Baltimore Ravens were one of these
- 18:17Speaker 4: teams who lacked the running game. They could always run
- 18:19Speaker 4: the ball since drafting Lamar, So I was like, Okay,
- 18:22Speaker 4: what does this do? How does this elevate them? And
- 18:25Speaker 4: now I see it's look at Derrick Henry being stopped
- 18:30Speaker 4: for most of the game and then he rips went
- 18:32Speaker 4: off for eighty one.
- 18:33Speaker 3: And you know that's a point. That's a point in
- 18:35Speaker 3: the game.
- 18:36Speaker 4: If I'm defense right, I'm saying, we got him backed up,
- 18:39Speaker 4: let's get a stop, let's get a short field, give
- 18:42Speaker 4: our offense the ball. We score, you know, we try
- 18:45Speaker 4: to get the football back. We could get back in
- 18:47Speaker 4: this game. And then he goes for eighty one at
- 18:49Speaker 4: two point fifty at twenty one miles per hour, And
- 18:52Speaker 4: now you stack in the box. You're putting eight people
- 18:54Speaker 4: in the box every snap, and Zay Flowers and Rashad
- 18:57Speaker 4: Bateman out here cooking folks one on one, and our
- 19:00Speaker 4: passing game is elevated by the way when he wants
- 19:03Speaker 4: to run, he's the best athlete on the field. And
- 19:05Speaker 4: so I think just watching them play Tampa Bay, Bro
- 19:08Speaker 4: and score at ease after having a slow start was
- 19:11Speaker 4: just one of those things that really made you sit
- 19:14Speaker 4: back and marvel at his at his greatness, and at
- 19:18Speaker 4: what Derrick Henry's added to that team. And also too, Bro,
- 19:22Speaker 4: I realize now I probably will never say another negative
- 19:26Speaker 4: thing about Patrick Mahons, like even if, like, like, if
- 19:30Speaker 4: Patrick Mahomes throws five picks, I'm gonna blame it on
- 19:33Speaker 4: somebody else.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Cam it's going to be the weather, somebody ran the
- 19:36Speaker 3: wrong route. He don't feel well.
- 19:39Speaker 4: The kids kept him up because it's like, no matter
- 19:44Speaker 4: what happens, when it gets to situational football moments, the
- 19:48Speaker 4: dude just shows up.
- 19:51Speaker 1: You can't teach that, you know.
- 19:54Speaker 4: So I'm like, bro, because he throws the two picks
- 19:57Speaker 4: and he's like, man, Patrick is like sort of playing
- 20:00Speaker 4: well right now.
- 20:01Speaker 3: And I went to tweet it. I was like, you
- 20:04Speaker 3: better stop that, fingers.
- 20:05Speaker 4: We're not finna go out here and say nothing bad
- 20:07Speaker 4: about Patrick Mahomes because I knew it was gonna get
- 20:10Speaker 4: late in the game. And you know, he already went
- 20:12Speaker 4: like his feet hurt, like he runs like he was
- 20:15Speaker 4: born with playing fasci itis, you know what I'm saying.
- 20:17Speaker 3: So then he and so and so.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Then he gets the thirty three yard run. He runs
- 20:22Speaker 4: over Mustafa for the touchdown. It's a thirty to eight play.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Scrambles gets out of the pocket, throws the ball to Noah. Great,
- 20:28Speaker 4: and then you're like, they go Patrick doing that Patrick
- 20:30Speaker 4: stuff again.
- 20:31Speaker 3: And I thought that Pat.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Lowered his shoulder.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Let's Pat lowered his shoulder and reminded the world he's
- 20:37Speaker 2: like that he two forty.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Now now it kind of pissed me off as a
- 20:42Speaker 4: safety though, right because you got to break some pads
- 20:45Speaker 4: to Pat now because he running over safeties.
- 20:48Speaker 3: You know, once they do it one time, they gonna
- 20:49Speaker 3: keep doing it. Take us for salt. Yeah, they take
- 20:53Speaker 3: us for salt.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I'm one of those pause right there and only like,
- 20:56Speaker 2: I also disliked the way that the game has has
- 21:00Speaker 2: has sort of inhibited defensive players to hit quarterbacks in general,
- 21:05Speaker 2: because he's like, all right, let me just get him
- 21:07Speaker 2: down and Pat was like, no, I'm getting this touchdown
- 21:09Speaker 2: and let's call it ten years ago.
- 21:11Speaker 1: We're taking his knees out. Now it's hey, it's a quarterback.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Hit him, don't don't hip drop.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Tackle him, don't hit him too high, because they're targeting
- 21:20Speaker 2: You're you're dealing in a complete different era.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Cam think about the think about the long run though.
- 21:25Speaker 4: People are tiptoeing to the sideline expecting him to run out,
- 21:30Speaker 4: and because he doesn't run out, you know, and I
- 21:33Speaker 4: think we've seen it. You've seen that all around the game, man,
- 21:36Speaker 4: and you know, for you guys to have to make
- 21:39Speaker 4: the adjustments that you have, I know that's already ready difficult,
- 21:43Speaker 4: But it's the frustration of them taking advantage of those rules,
- 21:48Speaker 4: Like if you slide and I can't hit you, cool, right,
- 21:50Speaker 4: that's where you were going to be regardless, But when
- 21:52Speaker 4: you take advantage of it and get the extra yards,
- 21:54Speaker 4: or if you're a Mustafa and you get ran over
- 21:57Speaker 4: in the end zone because even as you're approaching, you're not.
- 22:01Speaker 4: You don't your mind doesn't click into now he's a runner,
- 22:04Speaker 4: you see what I'm saying, And so now I can
- 22:05Speaker 4: tackle him differently. And I think the last thing, too, Cam,
- 22:09Speaker 4: is that like Detroit's offense, Bro, what Ben Johnson is doing, Like,
- 22:14Speaker 4: I don't know why he never wants to take a
- 22:16Speaker 4: head coaching job, And if I'm Dan Campbell, I do
- 22:19Speaker 4: everything I possibly can to continue to convince him to
- 22:22Speaker 4: turn down those jobs. Because Minnesota has been giving people
- 22:26Speaker 4: so much trouble with their pressure packages and the fire
- 22:29Speaker 4: zone split safety defenses, they could play behind it, switching
- 22:33Speaker 4: that to a drop zero and Jared Goff cooked them
- 22:37Speaker 4: bro fourteen for fourteen to start the game. The big
- 22:40Speaker 4: play to Amara Saint Brown finishes with the drive to
- 22:42Speaker 4: set them up for a field goal. So I just
- 22:44Speaker 4: thought all those teams were extremely impressive.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Man, these are these are facts. I'll say, So what
- 22:50Speaker 2: about what about this upcoming week? Who are you excited
- 22:53Speaker 2: to say? Week eight?
- 22:55Speaker 3: Yeah? So so week eight?
- 22:57Speaker 4: You know, I was probably more excited to see this
- 23:00Speaker 4: matchup before Jaden Daniels got injured. We were supposed to
- 23:04Speaker 4: see the Commanders versus the Bears where you can see
- 23:07Speaker 4: number one and number two pick right, and and Caleb
- 23:12Speaker 4: was trending and playing better right, He's trending upwards.
- 23:16Speaker 3: And Jayden Daniels has taken the league by storm, and
- 23:20Speaker 3: so I kind of playing lightshouse.
- 23:22Speaker 4: I wanted to see that matchup and what was to
- 23:25Speaker 4: come up because you were a competitor, right, And if
- 23:28Speaker 4: I'm Caleb Williams, I'm like, wait, y'all keep talking about this, dude,
- 23:31Speaker 4: Like I ain't the one, right, And if you're Jaden,
- 23:34Speaker 4: if you're Jada Daniels's like, yeah, like Chicago, You're gonna
- 23:37Speaker 4: wish you would.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Have picked me, you know. So, and so like that
- 23:40Speaker 3: was that was something you know, I was looking forward to.
- 23:44Speaker 4: I think the other thing is like how does or
- 23:47Speaker 4: how do the Bengals who can't stop the run at
- 23:51Speaker 4: all figure out how to limit Sakwon Barkley with what
- 23:54Speaker 4: we saw from him last week against the New York Giants.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Right. Remindre Stevenson had a big day.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Uh, Derrick Henry had a big day against the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Chuba Hubbard in Carolina, even in the loss, was able
- 24:06Speaker 4: to rack up yards. And I feel like the Philadelphia
- 24:09Speaker 4: Eagles are starting to realize like who sa Quan truly
- 24:12Speaker 4: is to them, and they have to put the football
- 24:14Speaker 4: in his hands. And I want to see if Luana
- 24:16Speaker 4: Rumo could come up with a way to stop them,
- 24:18Speaker 4: because the Bengals have to win or they could be
- 24:21Speaker 4: pushing themselves out of playoff contention. And one of the
- 24:23Speaker 4: best quarterbacks in the NFL. And so those are two
- 24:26Speaker 4: things I'm really looking forward to seeing.
- 24:29Speaker 2: M hmm, I'm I'm just gonna add on the third.
- 24:32Speaker 2: I think the Saints going to l A and beat
- 24:34Speaker 2: the Chargers is what it is. That's that's my prediction.
- 24:36Speaker 3: I mean the Chargers. The Chargers aren't very good. Let's
- 24:39Speaker 3: hope they aren't the Denver Broncos.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Yeah, let's just let's just hope we're getting healthier. We're
- 24:43Speaker 2: getting healthier as the weeks go on. We just had
- 24:45Speaker 2: a mini buy cam not getting healthier.
- 24:49Speaker 1: You're getting healthier, cam.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Bro.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Yeah, they'll be going to canal.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Like no the o.
- 24:59Speaker 2: You know, back in the they used to hit Bourbon
- 25:01Speaker 2: and like I feel like the liquor would keep you
- 25:04Speaker 2: loose enough so you don't feel those pains. Now everybody's
- 25:07Speaker 2: you know, so locked in and focused in on prehab, rehab,
- 25:10Speaker 2: you know, and eating the right way. There's like a
- 25:13Speaker 2: rigid movement to the body.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Now, I don't you know that's so.
- 25:17Speaker 3: You guys are too healthy to.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Too strict in our in our dietary meals, Like this
- 25:23Speaker 2: is not a lot of limbo. So you know, the
- 25:25Speaker 2: guys guys got hurt. Uh you know uh Jovic Jovid,
- 25:32Speaker 2: our linebacker coach years ago. But like you know, what
- 25:35Speaker 2: everybody wants to eat and what to eat these clean
- 25:38Speaker 2: chicken and qing wall. You guys need to go out
- 25:41Speaker 2: and have a steak in a burger, you know, get
- 25:43Speaker 2: some get some greas and and fat new system.
- 25:45Speaker 1: And like.
- 25:48Speaker 2: I'm sort of leaning on maybe we need some you know,
- 25:50Speaker 2: some some some fat and grease in the system just
- 25:53Speaker 2: just is what it is.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Maybe Dan.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Skinny Skinny Cam is fully boughty on keen wall keen
- 26:04Speaker 2: wall and uh and cabbage uh you know steamed not
- 26:08Speaker 2: sawted and and and juiced.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Uff, no good water, no sodas you know, except for.
- 26:14Speaker 3: You're not You're not eating cabbage. You're not eating cabbage.
- 26:17Speaker 3: The New Orleans Blackaway is what you're trying.
- 26:19Speaker 2: To know, exactly exactly nothing stuff, No chicken stock, no bacon,
- 26:23Speaker 2: no nothing, no no, no steamed sauteed avocado oil. You
- 26:28Speaker 2: know there's skinny. You just stay skinny. You gotta you know,
- 26:31Speaker 2: I'm trying to be right and fast.
- 26:33Speaker 3: You're echo like that. Ain't even cabbage.
- 26:37Speaker 1: That's one of my moms right there.
- 26:41Speaker 2: But I know, look, I know you got to go.
- 26:43Speaker 2: So I appreciate you spending your time bro shooting shooting
- 26:46Speaker 2: with me. You you you're nothing, but you were nothing
- 26:49Speaker 2: but a consumme of pro on the field. Off the field,
- 26:52Speaker 2: you're nothing but somebody who I still look up to
- 26:55Speaker 2: for everything that you're doing. Great family man, you know,
- 26:59Speaker 2: great anilests. I don't know if I'd ever want to
- 27:01Speaker 2: be an analyst, but like you know it even even
- 27:04Speaker 2: the podcast, the way you hold it down and major
- 27:07Speaker 2: major moves to now be in the pivot.
- 27:09Speaker 5: That's that's huge in the way that Yeah, man, the
- 27:13Speaker 5: way that you're able to empathize as well as just
- 27:16Speaker 5: you know, give a viewer the same feels that they
- 27:19Speaker 5: that you have is nothing short but incredible.
- 27:22Speaker 2: So appreciate you from tapping in with off the edgric
- 27:25Speaker 2: Candra absolutely a shout out to Ryan Clark for the
- 27:36Speaker 2: knowledge dropped. I mean the man, the man is become
- 27:39Speaker 2: a legendary, Uh, to transition football, to transcend from just
- 27:44Speaker 2: being a football player undrafted his story, become a Pro bowler,
- 27:49Speaker 2: become a Super Bowl champion, to become a guy that
- 27:53Speaker 2: you know, teammates love and respect and can lean on.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Man, that's what this game is all about. Uh.
- 27:58Speaker 2: For him to be now all you know the analysts,
- 28:02Speaker 2: A man who holds his own podcast, a man who
- 28:05Speaker 2: anchors shows. That's that's awesome to see. Uh. You know,
- 28:08Speaker 2: when you have a physical representation, you have something, you
- 28:11Speaker 2: can create a goal ass Uh. But we're talking about,
- 28:15Speaker 2: you know, back to what the.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Saints need to do. We're gonna just say we gotta
- 28:19Speaker 1: get a win and charge in LA.
- 28:21Speaker 2: We play the Chargers. You gotta go ahead and create
- 28:24Speaker 2: some opportunities. You utilize Alba Kamara as much as possible.
- 28:28Speaker 2: You have to be able to, you know, get the
- 28:30Speaker 2: ball early and often to a guy like Juwan Johnson
- 28:34Speaker 2: tight end. I'm gonna say, dark horse of the game.
- 28:37Speaker 2: He's gonna be amazing. I'm speaking fruition. Just you know,
- 28:41Speaker 2: our run attack ak of course leading the way. But
- 28:43Speaker 2: you got Jamal Williams and Kendre Miller, who you know
- 28:47Speaker 2: is back healthy and active again.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Healthy is the key. As the week's go.
- 28:52Speaker 2: On, we're starting to get some guys back, hopefully. You know,
- 28:54Speaker 2: we've gone from eight hour nine hours starters being injured
- 28:58Speaker 2: to now we're started to finally see them come back.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Let's get them back so we can get these winds
- 29:05Speaker 2: stacked up. You know, last week hurt. Thursday night you
- 29:10Speaker 2: lose a Denver Broncos and you lose to Sean Payton,
- 29:14Speaker 2: and yet you know there's there's light at the end
- 29:17Speaker 2: of the tunnel when you look at it and say, hey,
- 29:19Speaker 2: these are things that we need to clean up.
- 29:21Speaker 1: That's that's a that's.
- 29:22Speaker 2: An alarm that we have to be able to make
- 29:24Speaker 2: sure we we cover. And then so Thursday we lose
- 29:29Speaker 2: uh families in town, Sister flies in from Germany. She
- 29:33Speaker 2: lives in Germany now, Uh with a with her husband
- 29:36Speaker 2: Cassim At, a baldy former teammate.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Weird awkward another time for another story.
- 29:40Speaker 2: But you know, come in town and uh, it's it's
- 29:45Speaker 2: a beautiful situation.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Guys from from cal showed up. Uh.
- 29:50Speaker 2: You know, guys like you know Mike Kendricks who played
- 29:52Speaker 2: for the Philadelphia Eagles, Super Bowl champion, Marv Jones, who
- 29:55Speaker 2: played eleven years in the NFL.
- 29:58Speaker 1: You know, Uh, my room for college shows up.
- 30:02Speaker 2: And then you know, before we have the foundation event,
- 30:06Speaker 2: Cam Jordan Foundation, a dinner with Cam Jordan's. Where where
- 30:11Speaker 2: I have I can't we now it's I I have
- 30:14Speaker 2: the utmost hopes and dreams to create a scholarship for
- 30:19Speaker 2: kids in New Orleans getting to college, pay for four
- 30:22Speaker 2: years of college. I don't know how many we can
- 30:24Speaker 2: get done this year, but we know we're gonna start
- 30:26Speaker 2: up for next school school year. And of course you
- 30:32Speaker 2: know we're doing all types of activations in the city,
- 30:33Speaker 2: whether that's Turkey drives, backpack giveaways, giving bikes during Christmas,
- 30:39Speaker 2: partner up with any and everybody to address any in
- 30:42Speaker 2: all community needs. It's been nothing short of a blessing
- 30:46Speaker 2: to be able to even have my own foundation. So
- 30:51Speaker 2: from there, you know, Friday night, Cam Jordan's first annual
- 30:56Speaker 2: celebrity dinner.
- 30:57Speaker 1: It was a success in my book.
- 30:59Speaker 2: You know, not only do a teammate show up, the
- 31:02Speaker 2: people of New Orleans showed up. He showed out and
- 31:05Speaker 2: just left with the invigorating responsibility of We've already done
- 31:11Speaker 2: some good in the city, and how much more can
- 31:13Speaker 2: we do. I'm just reinvigorated of getting back into the
- 31:17Speaker 2: community that is New Orleans.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so it was all positive vibes.
- 31:22Speaker 2: It went from you know, like we have to focus
- 31:25Speaker 2: on winning, to God has blessed me so much.
- 31:28Speaker 1: You know, it's hard not to want to give back.
- 31:32Speaker 2: It's so awesome to have a charity event like that
- 31:36Speaker 2: where you see so many people from New Orleans, you know,
- 31:39Speaker 2: even even a couple of fly ins. I really want
- 31:43Speaker 2: to see a foundation do well, to succeed, and so
- 31:47Speaker 2: it's just motivating, which brings us to the weekend of refocusing.
- 31:52Speaker 2: You know, how much more can I give? How much
- 31:55Speaker 2: more can we be better? What can we do to
- 31:57Speaker 2: be a better team, a better teammate, a better community, remember,
- 32:00Speaker 2: a better brother, a better better father, my brother, husband.
- 32:05Speaker 2: This four days is just an idea of being thankful,
- 32:09Speaker 2: thankful to be employed by the Saints. I'm excited, uh
