- 1:36Speaker 1: as well as those listening the next day in our
- 1:37Speaker 1: favorite on demand audio podcast platform BRANDICC Wuido and Austin
- 1:40Speaker 1: broad Elite prospects with you going to breakdown and exciting
- 1:44Speaker 1: three to one victory for the Buffalo Sabers on the
- 1:46Speaker 1: road in Game three against the Boston Bruins, taking a
- 1:49Speaker 1: two to one series lead in their first round matchup Austin,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and that was definitely a nail bier all the way
- 1:55Speaker 1: to the end. But we're going to talk about that,
- 1:57Speaker 1: We're going to talk about you know, games one and
- 1:59Speaker 1: two as a whole as well. But uh, you know,
- 2:01Speaker 1: first taste of playoff action for the Sabers in fourteen seasons,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and uh, you know, what have you thought of it
- 2:06Speaker 1: so far?
- 2:08Speaker 3: Honestly, I want to say it's been about what I
- 2:11Speaker 3: expected in terms of from a fan fan standpoint, like
- 2:16Speaker 3: nerves through the roof every game, things like that nail bier.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Glad that they fought back for Game two even though
- 2:22Speaker 3: that wasn't really a nail bier, but they just made
- 2:24Speaker 3: it close. But for the most part, I mean overall,
- 2:27Speaker 3: for three games aside sorry, aside from Game two, I
- 2:31Speaker 3: think the Sabers have just clearly been the better team
- 2:33Speaker 3: at five on five. Like, I don't even think it's
- 2:35Speaker 3: been particularly close, and that's kind of what the Sabers
- 2:38Speaker 3: are going to have to do to close out this series,
- 2:40Speaker 3: you know, and get two more wins. Is keep this
- 2:41Speaker 3: game at five on five. We'll talk about that later
- 2:44Speaker 3: with the power play being what the power play has been.
- 2:47Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean it feels good, Like I paced
- 2:51Speaker 3: the living room in my house for you know, all
- 2:55Speaker 3: throughout the entire tirity of the third period. Didn't sit
- 2:58Speaker 3: down once during the third period. It good. It feels
- 3:01Speaker 3: good to watch hockey like this again. And I mean
- 3:05Speaker 3: nail biter tonight. I've try to put it into words
- 3:09Speaker 3: like playoff hockey does shave years off your life. It does,
- 3:13Speaker 3: and it's been fourteen years since we've had to experience that.
- 3:16Speaker 3: So it's kind of like trying to quit something cold
- 3:19Speaker 3: turkey once you get that little you know, if you
- 3:23Speaker 3: relapse a little bit and you get a little bit
- 3:25Speaker 3: of a taste there. That's kind of what we've gotten
- 3:27Speaker 3: through with these thirstree games. Is like, I don't know
- 3:30Speaker 3: how I'm gonna do this for two more. Like they
- 3:31Speaker 3: have two days off now, and that kind of sucks
- 3:33Speaker 3: because I don't want two days off.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Yeah, Game three is not gonna or excuse me, Game
- 3:39Speaker 1: four is not gonna go till Sunday at two pm
- 3:41Speaker 1: because of the great scheduling conflicts that TD Garden's got
- 3:44Speaker 1: to love it with multiple teams playing in the playoffs
- 3:47Speaker 1: at the same time. But again for the Sabers, and well,
- 3:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna try to monitor. We might cut the Lindy
- 3:52Speaker 1: Rouff and some other post game stuff as it trickles
- 3:54Speaker 1: in here on the post game show tonight. To appreciate
- 3:57Speaker 1: everybody staying up with us tonight. So Austin, let's let's
- 4:00Speaker 1: quickly go over the first two games. Obviously we talk
- 4:03Speaker 1: about we're to get into this game itself, but with
- 4:05Speaker 1: the three to one victory, the empty netter and things
- 4:07Speaker 1: like that. But for the first two you know, that
- 4:10Speaker 1: first game, you know, the fans outside it was incredible
- 4:13Speaker 1: to see a canal side everything going on with the
- 4:16Speaker 1: theatrics and all that. And then having the third period
- 4:20Speaker 1: comeback with with eight minutes left in the final frame,
- 4:22Speaker 1: the Sabers down to nothing and they score, you know,
- 4:25Speaker 1: three goals and have one of the biggest comebacks in
- 4:28Speaker 1: postseason history as far as being able to tie it
- 4:30Speaker 1: and then win it in regulation. Being down by two
- 4:33Speaker 1: goals with less than eight minutes left to go in
- 4:35Speaker 1: the game. You know, that was just I feel like
- 4:38Speaker 1: the Sabers fans kind of needed that for the fourteen
- 4:40Speaker 1: year drought.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely as a perfect It's weird, and when you
- 4:46Speaker 3: zoom out from the grand scheme of things, there's a
- 4:48Speaker 3: perfect way to start the playoffs, like a huge, memorable
- 4:51Speaker 3: win for the first time in fourteen years. Obviously in
- 4:54Speaker 3: the moment, would have preferred them to not have to,
- 4:56Speaker 3: you know, come back in the last eight minutes of
- 4:59Speaker 3: the game, but now that we're two days later, Yeah,
- 5:01Speaker 3: what a perfect way to start at The fans were
- 5:03Speaker 3: absolutely bonkers, which is kind of what we expected. Canalside
- 5:08Speaker 3: was jumping in that game, watching the Rollerblade gang that
- 5:11Speaker 3: they're going by now like it. It was just perfect.
- 5:14Speaker 3: It was exactly what Buffalo needed. And I was really glad, again,
- 5:17Speaker 3: really glad that they were able to get that comeback
- 5:19Speaker 3: win because it kind of kind of just showcased what
- 5:23Speaker 3: this market can be. And having everyone talk about the
- 5:25Speaker 3: Savers for those two days, the day, like, the day
- 5:27Speaker 3: after the game and the night of the win, like,
- 5:30Speaker 3: it was really cool and that's something that I think
- 5:32Speaker 3: all fans be like, Yeah, we've waited so long. We
- 5:35Speaker 3: kind of deserve this. So that first game was just
- 5:37Speaker 3: super memorable for everybody. Like I said, I was watching
- 5:40Speaker 3: it in the back of the truck on my way
- 5:41Speaker 3: home from the airport because I was in Edmonton for
- 5:43Speaker 3: the weekend. Flew home, landed at seven point thirty, watched
- 5:46Speaker 3: the entire game on my phone, walked in the door.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Essentially Samuelson gave them the lead. It was perfect.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yeah, And for a guy like Taje Thompson to be
- 5:54Speaker 1: able to step up in a big moment like that
- 5:56Speaker 1: scoring the two goals, right, Like, you want your best
- 5:58Speaker 1: players to be your best players. You know, Tage won
- 6:00Speaker 1: a gold medal with tam Usa this year. He's played
- 6:02Speaker 1: in some big games. Maybe that helped him in that sense.
- 6:05Speaker 1: But you heard Lindy Ruff after that first game, but
- 6:07Speaker 1: saying you want your playoff experience, you got it there,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and even heard Tae Thompson talking about we've sort of
- 6:12Speaker 1: been playing playoff games for the last two months, right,
- 6:15Speaker 1: like with all the big games they had against the
- 6:16Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Lightning. So yeah, it's not ideal. You don't
- 6:19Speaker 1: want to be down to nothing with eight minutes left,
- 6:20Speaker 1: but for them to be able to have some resolve
- 6:23Speaker 1: and some resilience like that. We've kind of seen that
- 6:25Speaker 1: from this team all season long.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like, again, not that they're stepping aside the
- 6:33Speaker 3: keeping the second game excuting from this. For the most
- 6:35Speaker 3: part this year, when the Sabers have been tested or
- 6:37Speaker 3: face some adversity, they've been able to battle through it.
- 6:39Speaker 3: And that was just another example of that. They were
- 6:42Speaker 3: the better team in that first game. I don't think
- 6:44Speaker 3: anyone will disagree with that. They just were the powerplay sucks,
- 6:47Speaker 3: which we'll talk about that, I'm sure every time we
- 6:49Speaker 3: have a podcast. But they were the better team and
- 6:53Speaker 3: it was honestly, for fifty two minutes Boston was playing.
- 6:57Speaker 3: It was the perfect strategy for Boston, which was just
- 7:00Speaker 3: hope that Swayman kind of keeps us in this game
- 7:03Speaker 3: and we got to capitalize on our chances, and that's
- 7:04Speaker 3: what they did. But when the Sabers broke through, it
- 7:09Speaker 3: was just you could feel that build and shake and like, yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 3: I don't know if you were watching the MSG broadcast
- 7:14Speaker 3: or the ESPN broadcast, but right after Tage Thompson scored
- 7:17Speaker 3: that goal and the crowd was doing the TNT chant,
- 7:20Speaker 3: Ray Ferro was sat on the ESPN broadcast, The next
- 7:22Speaker 3: five minutes are absolutely crucial for the Boston Bruins. This
- 7:25Speaker 3: arena is about to explode, and in that next five
- 7:27Speaker 3: minutes the Sabers took over and won the game. And
- 7:30Speaker 3: it was I think I thought it was just really poetic.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it was, and I was watching the ESPN broadcast
- 7:36Speaker 1: as well, So yeah, I mean for the Sabers to
- 7:39Speaker 1: do what they did in that first game, it kind
- 7:41Speaker 1: of gave them a buffer for what happened in the
- 7:43Speaker 1: second game. Bruins. You know that four nothing lead, and
- 7:46Speaker 1: we've all seen it, that blooper from from lucan In
- 7:48Speaker 1: and it is what it is, you know, the geeky
- 7:50Speaker 1: dump in that goes over his shoulder and goes in
- 7:52Speaker 1: the net, makes it three nothing. They get the quick
- 7:54Speaker 1: one to start the third period and Alex Lyon comes
- 7:57Speaker 1: in and after that the Saber would score the Bruins
- 8:01Speaker 1: to nothing, and maybe that carried some momentum into tonight
- 8:04Speaker 1: with how how well Alex Lion played. But what would
- 8:07Speaker 1: be your quick quick analysis of what we saw in
- 8:09Speaker 1: that second game?
- 8:10Speaker 3: Game two? Is the strategy for Boston right like Game
- 8:12Speaker 3: one that it kind of worked for fifty two minutes.
- 8:14Speaker 3: But Game two was the pure perfect strategy for Boston
- 8:17Speaker 3: because not only was Swamen playing really good, but Buffalo
- 8:21Speaker 3: was not nearly as confident and aggressive on the four check.
- 8:24Speaker 3: They were, for lack of a better word, mucking the
- 8:27Speaker 3: game up and drawing Buffalo into the stupid after the
- 8:29Speaker 3: whistle crap, and we saw it like Buffalo kind of
- 8:33Speaker 3: played into Boston's hands in that game too. And you
- 8:36Speaker 3: saw it, I mean, whether it was Lion making a
- 8:40Speaker 3: couple saves when he got put in there, or just
- 8:42Speaker 3: I don't know what it was, but once too little,
- 8:44Speaker 3: too late, obviously, but once that switch flipped in that
- 8:47Speaker 3: third period and they scored their first goal, they started
- 8:49Speaker 3: dumping the puck aggressively, wearing them down with the four check,
- 8:52Speaker 3: and it led to two goals for him. Now obviously
- 8:54Speaker 3: again too little too late. But I don't think in
- 8:57Speaker 3: I don't think I hate moral victory type thing. But
- 9:00Speaker 3: you can't under it. You can't understate that that probably
- 9:02Speaker 3: had Buffalo field pretty a lot better than they would
- 9:05Speaker 3: have felt that they'd lost that game for nothing, because
- 9:07Speaker 3: that is the game that Buffalo needed to play, and
- 9:09Speaker 3: it's kind of the game that we saw them play
- 9:10Speaker 3: tonight in this third game, But honestly, I thought through
- 9:13Speaker 3: the first six periods Buffalo was the better team for
- 9:15Speaker 3: the most part, but the strategy was working for Boston
- 9:18Speaker 3: because they're gonna and they're gonna continue for the rest
- 9:20Speaker 3: of the series. It's gonna be we're gonna rely on
- 9:23Speaker 3: Jeremy Swayman to be Jeremy Swayman, and we're just gonna
- 9:25Speaker 3: have We're gonna capitalize on our chances. That's kind of
- 9:27Speaker 3: what Boston does. And their first two lines, like the
- 9:32Speaker 3: Arbinson line, was really bad in Game one, but Game two,
- 9:35Speaker 3: Arbinson was their best player and they were dangerous again.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Tonight had a couple of chances, So it's Game two
- 9:43Speaker 3: was picture perfect for Boston. Game one was almost picture perfect,
- 9:46Speaker 3: but Buffalo kind of outlasted them, and tonight we saw
- 9:49Speaker 3: the Sabers play the way that the Sabers need to play.
- 9:50Speaker 3: If the Sabers play the way that they played tonight,
- 9:52Speaker 3: they'll win this series no problem.
- 9:54Speaker 1: So going into what we sort of saw tonight before
- 9:57Speaker 1: we got into the game morning Skate today, Alex Lion
- 10:00Speaker 1: took the net by himself. We knew that that was
- 10:02Speaker 1: interesting because that means that usually means that he's going
- 10:05Speaker 1: to get the start in the net. So a couple
- 10:07Speaker 1: other of the of the player notes, we saw Josh
- 10:10Speaker 1: Norris was out for game three tonight. He was out
- 10:13Speaker 1: day to day with an injury. Again this from Matthew Fairburn.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Noah Austlin takes his place in the lineup, and you
- 10:19Speaker 1: know that ended up working out real wealth with the
- 10:21Speaker 1: Sabers or we talkable, but Alex Tuck also took Norris
- 10:25Speaker 1: a spot on the top power play unit. Austin went
- 10:27Speaker 1: to the second unit, and we saw Alex Lyons start
- 10:29Speaker 1: tonight for lucan In, which I thought was a little
- 10:33Speaker 1: I don't know. I actually thought that they were gonna
- 10:35Speaker 1: go back to lucan In just for the fact, to
- 10:37Speaker 1: give him another chance after you know that blunder in
- 10:40Speaker 1: game two. Maybe give him another another opportunity. But the
- 10:43Speaker 1: Sabers have sort of done this all year long. They've
- 10:45Speaker 1: sort of just ridden the hot hand with either Ellis
- 10:47Speaker 1: or Lion or lucan In. And I know Lyon hasn't
- 10:50Speaker 1: started a game in quite a while. He came in
- 10:52Speaker 1: relief for one game, but you know, with the way
- 10:55Speaker 1: that it went tonight, I can't really blame Lindy Rough,
- 10:57Speaker 1: but I was fully expecting lucan In to start Game
- 10:59Speaker 1: three tonight.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I honestly I didn't know. I kind of expected
- 11:03Speaker 3: it to be Lyon only because I thought going to
- 11:06Speaker 3: Lion immediately kind of plays into Lindy Rouff's hand better
- 11:09Speaker 3: because he can go with the well, we've rotated goalies
- 11:11Speaker 3: all year, Whereas if he went to Lucanan tonight and
- 11:15Speaker 3: Lucanan struggled, pulling the cord feels a lot more like
- 11:19Speaker 3: pulling the cord like this is Lion's now. Now, I
- 11:22Speaker 3: still expect Lying to start Game four, but there's no
- 11:25Speaker 3: reason now for Lindy Rough to be like it's Lion
- 11:30Speaker 3: only going forward, because he can be like, no, this
- 11:31Speaker 3: is the rotation that we talked about, and you know,
- 11:33Speaker 3: for a while it was winning, you're in, and then
- 11:35Speaker 3: it was rotating back and forth, back and forth. So
- 11:38Speaker 3: I kind of just thought the easiest solution for Rough
- 11:41Speaker 3: was just, hey, we're gonna go to Lion. I'm gonna
- 11:43Speaker 3: say it's the typical rotation, which it is, and doesn't
- 11:47Speaker 3: slam the door on Lucanan. Whereas I think if Lukenan
- 11:49Speaker 3: had one more bad game, you're a lot closer to
- 11:51Speaker 3: slamming the door shut on him than you would be
- 11:53Speaker 3: if you just said, hey, we're gonna rest you for
- 11:55Speaker 3: a bit. Because with Lucanan, like any goalie really, but
- 11:58Speaker 3: especially a guy like Luken, and we know when we
- 12:00Speaker 3: know when he's shaky, things go like awry really fast.
- 12:06Speaker 3: And he wasn't bad in game one, but he was
- 12:08Speaker 3: a little bit shaky at times in Game one, started
- 12:10Speaker 3: Game two extremely calm, and then that blunder happened and
- 12:12Speaker 3: you could tell it was just kind of it was
- 12:14Speaker 3: done from there. So I think given him a rest
- 12:16Speaker 3: was probably the better call in my opinion.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, Lion basically played that entire third period
- 12:21Speaker 1: right like Boston scored go right away, and it gave
- 12:24Speaker 1: Lyon a little bit of time to get in there, right.
- 12:26Speaker 1: And it's not like he just came in to muck
- 12:28Speaker 1: it up in the last couple of minutes of the game,
- 12:30Speaker 1: like he he basically played a full period, so he
- 12:32Speaker 1: was sort of ready to go, and he he looked
- 12:34Speaker 1: decent like it wasn't like the Bruins, you know, did
- 12:36Speaker 1: a whole lot with up four nothing They really went
- 12:39Speaker 1: sort of prevent But I guess it was enough for
- 12:41Speaker 1: Lindy rough to say, hey, we're gonna we're gonna ride
- 12:43Speaker 1: with this guy, because as you mentioned, that's sort of
- 12:45Speaker 1: the rotation that they've done all season long.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think oddly enough, when Lyon didn't start
- 12:52Speaker 3: the third period, I think that was rough Chance being like, hey,
- 12:56Speaker 3: we're gonna let Luken, We're gonna let you finish this
- 12:57Speaker 3: game strong, see if you can rebound. And I think
- 13:00Speaker 3: I think had Lucanan finished that third period strong, he's
- 13:04Speaker 3: probably starting tonight. But because he gave up that goal
- 13:06Speaker 3: and when he was like, all right, we got to
- 13:08Speaker 3: get him out, I think he kind of made the
- 13:10Speaker 3: decision for him that night. But again, I do fully believe,
- 13:13Speaker 3: like I don't think anyone believes this is the last
- 13:14Speaker 3: we'll see Lucan.
- 13:15Speaker 1: In the playoffs, right, No, absolutely, I think you know,
- 13:19Speaker 1: if knock on what it doesn't happen. But if Lyon
- 13:22Speaker 1: were to struggle in Game four, we'd see Lucanan right
- 13:25Speaker 1: back in there for Game five. I believe that would
- 13:27Speaker 1: be my take from it. But Norris being out day
- 13:30Speaker 1: to day's injured Ausland. You know, he was ready to
- 13:34Speaker 1: go miss twelve games, so it worked out. I guess
- 13:38Speaker 1: for Buffalo in that sense, But you know Norris, we
- 13:41Speaker 1: know we talked about his extensive injury history for you know,
- 13:44Speaker 1: the entire season we were doing this podcast as he's
- 13:46Speaker 1: been a Saber but had been pretty healthy down the
- 13:49Speaker 1: stretch and got in the first two games but just
- 13:51Speaker 1: wasn't able to go, And with him being on the
- 13:53Speaker 1: top power play unit as well, it sort of changed
- 13:55Speaker 1: things up there. So what did you think of the
- 13:57Speaker 1: lineup changes that Lindy Ruff had to make tonight?
- 14:01Speaker 3: Honestly, I'm surprised it wasn't more drastic. He literally just
- 14:05Speaker 3: subbed Kozak and Austlin and for done Norris. The Norris
- 14:10Speaker 3: injury is a little peculiar because my timeline is messed up.
- 14:13Speaker 3: But do you remember when he took that hard fall
- 14:14Speaker 3: into the boards in the offense of his own Was
- 14:16Speaker 3: that game one or two? Honestly, my memory is very
- 14:18Speaker 3: hazy on if that was one or two. I can't
- 14:20Speaker 3: really remember, But I think again, obviously we don't know
- 14:24Speaker 3: safe to assume that's probably what happened. Maybe not, but
- 14:30Speaker 3: I kind of thought when he was able to finish
- 14:33Speaker 3: that game, and if it was game I kind of
- 14:37Speaker 3: thought we were in the clear. But honestly, with a
- 14:39Speaker 3: guy like Norris, if it truly is day to day,
- 14:41Speaker 3: we know when the rust day to day quickly can
- 14:43Speaker 3: turn into a Look at Ausland, he was day to
- 14:45Speaker 3: day and then he missed twelve games. But if it
- 14:48Speaker 3: truly is just day to day, no problem in sitting
- 14:51Speaker 3: him out. I again, same thing. It worked out because
- 14:56Speaker 3: they won, but I honestly was surprised it was just
- 14:58Speaker 3: a straight up two subs, two subs for two. I
- 15:00Speaker 3: thought he was gonna try and tweak something he didn't
- 15:02Speaker 3: ended up working out. Power play is still hot garbage,
- 15:06Speaker 3: so hopefully we'll with the way awesome played today. I
- 15:08Speaker 3: don't know how you don't throw them on the top
- 15:10Speaker 3: unit because that is going to again it hasn't. It
- 15:16Speaker 3: has burned you through three games, but you're up to
- 15:18Speaker 3: one through three games, so it hasn't been like as
- 15:21Speaker 3: big of a deal as it should be. But in
- 15:23Speaker 3: like a crucial game, the power play is needed. And
- 15:27Speaker 3: the fact that you're zero for twelve in the playoffs
- 15:30Speaker 3: now I believe, and you haven't scored a power play
- 15:31Speaker 3: goal in all of April, that's a problem. Thankfully, your
- 15:34Speaker 3: penalty kill is making up for how bad your power
- 15:36Speaker 3: play is, because the penalty kill has been excellent, but
- 15:38Speaker 3: at some point this power play is going to need
- 15:40Speaker 3: to not look like hot garbage. I thought the first
- 15:43Speaker 3: two power plays I thought were pretty solid. They kind
- 15:46Speaker 3: of had done away with the drop pass and we're
- 15:48Speaker 3: entering the zone, and then all of a sudden, the
- 15:49Speaker 3: drop passes kind of came back into it. And Dolan
- 15:52Speaker 3: and Quinn have struggled mightily on that top unit, and
- 15:54Speaker 3: I thought both were not very good today on that
- 15:56Speaker 3: power play.
- 15:58Speaker 1: The Sabers, which isn't scored an entire month of apos
- 16:01Speaker 1: you mentioned, has now surpassed sixty minutes of power play
- 16:03Speaker 1: time without a goal. That's a full game with an
- 16:06Speaker 1: extra skaters, scoreless run of sixty one minutes and thirteen seconds. Yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 1: just has not been good enough. I think it's oh
- 16:14Speaker 1: for their last thirty two. Now if if my masters
- 16:17Speaker 1: me correct, beyond that those last couple there, don't don't
- 16:21Speaker 1: come after me if it's if it's worse or better.
- 16:23Speaker 1: But I think it's it's around that. But it's just
- 16:25Speaker 1: not it's not good enough. And we saw some changes
- 16:29Speaker 1: obviously with the Norris injury. So Lindy Can could have
- 16:32Speaker 1: used as an excuse because he said after game one, Nope, nope, nope,
- 16:35Speaker 1: we're not going to be making any changes there. You
- 16:37Speaker 1: don't want to change a bunch of stuff up. But
- 16:39Speaker 1: with the Norris injury, he sort of had a scapegoat
- 16:41Speaker 1: to be able to say, oh yeah, I'm going to
- 16:42Speaker 1: change it the power play because one of the guys
- 16:44Speaker 1: on our top unich was injured. So we saw Alex
- 16:47Speaker 1: Tucker move up, get moved up to that top unit,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and you mentioned Austlin with his first game he got
- 16:52Speaker 1: moved up to the second unit there. And I thought
- 16:54Speaker 1: the second unit had a couple of good looks tonight,
- 16:55Speaker 1: even though they were only out there for about twenty
- 16:57Speaker 1: seconds at each unit or each power play opportunity. But
- 17:01Speaker 1: I don't know what's going on with that top unit,
- 17:02Speaker 1: but it's almost just seems like they're trying to pass
- 17:04Speaker 1: their way out of a goal.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't really know what's going on with it.
- 17:07Speaker 3: And obviously Alex Tuck was awesome tonight, so this doesn't
- 17:10Speaker 3: include him, but the second power play unit, and they
- 17:12Speaker 3: weren't good on the power play, but the second power
- 17:14Speaker 3: play unit featured the three best players for the same tonight, McCleod.
- 17:17Speaker 3: In my opinion, McLeod, I don't think anyone will argue
- 17:19Speaker 3: against Oastlan and Byron has been your best defenseman through
- 17:22Speaker 3: three games. Sanielson was awesome in game one, has kind
- 17:24Speaker 3: of struggled the last two. Biram has progressively gotten better
- 17:27Speaker 3: as these playoffs gone along, and as Osland just had
- 17:30Speaker 3: the game of his life. So I mean the way,
- 17:33Speaker 3: my biggest issue with the power play is the zone entries.
- 17:36Speaker 3: And just watch McLeod like he doesn't drop. He does sometimes,
- 17:39Speaker 3: but mclod just says, you know what, I'm gonna take
- 17:41Speaker 3: this puck. I'm gonna use my speed, I'm gonna gain
- 17:42Speaker 3: the zone. Why not try, mcclod, I don't know, try
- 17:46Speaker 3: something new. Nothing against Tuck. Put In Tuck on the
- 17:49Speaker 3: first power play I think is a smart movement. He
- 17:50Speaker 3: should be there, But that to me is not significant
- 17:53Speaker 3: enough of a change to make a difference. And that's
- 17:55Speaker 3: not a knock on Tuck. Tuck's not the puck carrier.
- 17:57Speaker 3: And to me, their problem is with their zone entries.
- 18:00Speaker 3: McLoud doesn't have any issues with zone entries. Byron is
- 18:02Speaker 3: pretty solid on zone entries. Oceland's a. I know it
- 18:04Speaker 3: was five on five obviously, but Oslin's assist was off
- 18:06Speaker 3: his zone entry Like, I don't know, you're gonna need
- 18:09Speaker 3: more of a drastic change, because I think you're being
- 18:11Speaker 3: extremely nice when you say it's not good enough. It
- 18:13Speaker 3: is garbage. When they scored the goal to tie it
- 18:18Speaker 3: up and got the power played right away, that power
- 18:20Speaker 3: play should have been a chance to build momentum and
- 18:22Speaker 3: bury the Bruins further, and that power play stunk and
- 18:25Speaker 3: gave the Bruins momentum. That's when it's really bad, not
- 18:28Speaker 3: only when your power play. If the power play was
- 18:30Speaker 3: just not in a cold spell, I'd be all right
- 18:32Speaker 3: with it. But the power play is actively hurting the
- 18:33Speaker 3: Sabers momentum in games.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And it was nineteenth in the season, but it was
- 18:38Speaker 1: it was horrible down the stretch and we was all
- 18:41Speaker 1: year Like seth Abbert, you know, he's been, you know,
- 18:44Speaker 1: an easy target for Sabers fans with what's happened with
- 18:47Speaker 1: that power play unit. But even as you mentioned a
- 18:49Speaker 1: small change there with McLeod, like he I almost feel
- 18:52Speaker 1: like he got in on the first unit on the
- 18:54Speaker 1: way one of the line changes happened. But he's one
- 18:57Speaker 1: of the fastest skaters in the National Hockey League, and
- 18:58Speaker 1: you saw it with him being able to enter the zone, right, Like,
- 19:01Speaker 1: why why not try something like that because it's not
- 19:04Speaker 1: working with those five guys. Even when Norris was there,
- 19:06Speaker 1: he was giving the puck away for almost half breakaways
- 19:09Speaker 1: to the Bruins on the zone entries as well. So
- 19:11Speaker 1: it's just a whole, you know, scheme. We've talked about
- 19:14Speaker 1: it for you know, months on end about it's not
- 19:16Speaker 1: a talent issue. We had the players that can do this.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Even when Doan was up on the first unit, you know,
- 19:21Speaker 1: he was going to the net and doing the doing
- 19:23Speaker 1: the dirty work. But I don't know, I throw Tage
- 19:26Speaker 1: Thompson in front of the net. I know you want
- 19:27Speaker 1: him to have his his shot, but like you saw
- 19:30Speaker 1: what happened when he screened a goalie tonight.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I I honestly again, at times I
- 19:34Speaker 3: thought the first power play was moving the puck. Well,
- 19:36Speaker 3: they were doing goal line plays like Zucker had some
- 19:39Speaker 3: really good chances, just couldn't beat swaymen. But it's kind
- 19:42Speaker 3: of the issue with the Sabers power play is at
- 19:43Speaker 3: times it actually does look good. You can see it there,
- 19:46Speaker 3: but there is no in between the power play that
- 19:48Speaker 3: looks solid or it is just awful. Like there are
- 19:52Speaker 3: there are times where, like I mean, we obviously all
- 19:56Speaker 3: say this decline the penalty, declined the penalty, but there
- 19:57Speaker 3: were literally times tonight, like when Tage got tripped at
- 20:00Speaker 3: the end of the second period and there was no
- 20:01Speaker 3: penalty call. I was like, thank god, there was no
- 20:02Speaker 3: penalty call, because the last thing I want to see
- 20:04Speaker 3: is the Savers a good power play right now, They're
- 20:06Speaker 3: better at five on five, they were dominating at five
- 20:09Speaker 3: on five. This was the type of game where thankfully
- 20:13Speaker 3: your penalty kill was up to the task because there
- 20:15Speaker 3: was some untied Like we were actually two times that
- 20:21Speaker 3: you took a penalty, killed it off and immediately took
- 20:22Speaker 3: another penalty because it happened in the first period and
- 20:24Speaker 3: it happened in the third period. It just thankfully the
- 20:27Speaker 3: penalty kill was good. But yeah, like the second unit,
- 20:32Speaker 3: the only problem I have with the second unit is
- 20:34Speaker 3: there's just no Elite shooter on that unit. Yeah, but again,
- 20:38Speaker 3: the second unit gets has been getting thirty seconds of
- 20:41Speaker 3: the power play if they're lucky, so it's not a problem,
- 20:43Speaker 3: but like I'm hoping Ruscott two days here, I'm hoping
- 20:46Speaker 3: he kind of tweaked something drastically, whether that's I mean,
- 20:51Speaker 3: Zucker got some key chances tonight, so maybe you can't
- 20:52Speaker 3: take him off, but maybe try Osener McLoud on the
- 20:54Speaker 3: top unit. Maybe go two defensemen with byronman Dalen. I
- 20:57Speaker 3: don't know, because.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Try Jack Quinn on that second unit. Maybe if you
- 21:01Speaker 1: took talk.
- 21:01Speaker 3: About jack Quinn had some really blatant turnovers on the
- 21:04Speaker 3: power play tonight that really could have cost the Sabers.
- 21:06Speaker 3: But I've liked, Again, it's only on the power play
- 21:10Speaker 3: I've There hasn't been a lot of players that I've
- 21:12Speaker 3: disliked that five on five. It's just the power play
- 21:14Speaker 3: feels like jack Quinn and Dolly don't really know what
- 21:16Speaker 3: they're doing right now, and Tage at times had some issues.
- 21:20Speaker 3: So it's just hopefully it won't kill you in this series.
- 21:24Speaker 3: The way that the series has gone, it doesn't look
- 21:25Speaker 3: like it's going to, but we are going to need
- 21:28Speaker 3: it at some point, and I just hope, hope the
- 21:32Speaker 3: right adjustments are made, but they haven't been yet.
- 21:35Speaker 1: So we'll see Lindy Ruff's at the podium. Do you
- 21:38Speaker 1: want to go to him?
- 21:38Speaker 3: You can cut into him quick, all right.
- 21:40Speaker 1: So let's go to uh Buffalo Sabers head coach Lindy
- 21:43Speaker 1: Ruff and has always brought to you by Wild Bills
- 21:45Speaker 1: Auto Repair, Helpy Customers, Stacy and Confident on the road
- 21:48Speaker 1: in Nagress to twenty twelve in honor of the late
- 21:50Speaker 1: William Robert Hunter. Here is Buffalo Sabers head coach Lindy
- 21:53Speaker 1: Ruff on his team's performance in Game three, and we'll
- 21:57Speaker 1: come back and talk about it.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Kim doing with puck and he came up with a
- 22:03Speaker 4: huge safe for us and at.
- 22:05Speaker 5: The crucial time of the game, Inde, this is really
- 22:09Speaker 5: the first time all series he played with the lead.
- 22:11Speaker 5: How did you see maybe Boston change their game a
- 22:14Speaker 5: bit and chasing the game and the way you guys
- 22:16Speaker 5: really walked in and defended No.
- 22:19Speaker 4: You know, I think our I talked about our game
- 22:22Speaker 4: where we needed better puck play. I thought our puck
- 22:25Speaker 4: played throughout the game was really good. Our passing was good.
- 22:30Speaker 4: You know that led to better team speed. I don't
- 22:35Speaker 4: think they changed their game. They're really good at how
- 22:39Speaker 4: they play, and we have to focus on how we play.
- 22:43Speaker 4: And I said before this started, you've got two good
- 22:44Speaker 4: teams that are playing hockey against each other.
- 22:49Speaker 6: They how would you evaluate Alex Ellis first start.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Playoffs the same?
- 22:55Speaker 4: Well, I thought he was very good tonight. I thought
- 22:58Speaker 4: both goalies, Uh, both teams left some high quality stuff
- 23:03Speaker 4: out there. You know, even the third period, I think
- 23:06Speaker 4: we had the Greenway hit a post, uh Zacher hit
- 23:09Speaker 4: a crossbar. The opportunities were there. I thought Alex Alex
- 23:15Speaker 4: made some cross ice passes, even a couple in the
- 23:18Speaker 4: first period. You know that I think frustrated frustrated them
- 23:25Speaker 4: a little bit. But at the same time, you know,
- 23:29Speaker 4: our power play let let's swing en off. So we
- 23:32Speaker 4: had an empty net, Dolls had an empty net to
- 23:33Speaker 4: shoot in and he chose pass. But there were some
- 23:38Speaker 4: good stuff there and both goaltenders made some big saves
- 23:41Speaker 4: at key times. And Noah Aucelin said he was a
- 23:45Speaker 4: little nervous at the beginning of the game, but for
- 23:47Speaker 4: him to have the debut he had, what's it say
- 23:49Speaker 4: about him, Well, you know, I think he he said
- 23:54Speaker 4: it as best he could. He's got experience, he's played against,
- 23:57Speaker 4: he's been in the playoffs. Everybody's a little nervous going
- 24:01Speaker 4: into a game like that. I totally understand that. I
- 24:05Speaker 4: thought he played played a really solid game for us,
- 24:09Speaker 4: a little disjointed with all the penalties, you know where
- 24:11Speaker 4: you know, like to see him play a little bit
- 24:14Speaker 4: more because he was going so good. But for a
- 24:18Speaker 4: first playoff game with us, he let's say, gets an
- 24:21Speaker 4: a plus if there hasn't been a lot of if
- 24:28Speaker 4: you have money, what was your view on the bench
- 24:31Speaker 4: and what were you thinking when he was uh he
- 24:33Speaker 4: had all that that stage. Are you talking to first
- 24:36Speaker 4: goal toxical? Well, I just thought, you know, we had
- 24:41Speaker 4: good motion inside the zone. We won a couple of battles.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Uh.
- 24:45Speaker 4: I thought we did a lot better job of moving
- 24:48Speaker 4: our feet on the walls, not getting trapped on the walls.
- 24:52Speaker 4: Came off the wall tage. She did a great job
- 24:55Speaker 4: in front of their goaltender. And that's pretty well the
- 24:58Speaker 4: type of goals we're gonna need to score.
- 25:00Speaker 7: Whether you just brought home a new furry member of

- 28:49Speaker 3: Let's hear you from.
- 28:50Speaker 8: Yours right, all right?
- 29:02Speaker 1: So there was Sabers head coach Lindy Rough on the
- 29:05Speaker 1: Wild Bills out of repair post game following his team's
- 29:08Speaker 1: three to one victory in Game three of the Stanley
- 29:12Speaker 1: Cup playoffs. Austin, what did you take away from what
- 29:15Speaker 1: Lindy said there?
- 29:16Speaker 3: I mean, if we want to just get right into it,
- 29:19Speaker 3: I think he was spot on about Austlin. I mean,
- 29:22Speaker 3: I thought early on he had a couple of shakey
- 29:24Speaker 3: plays in his own zone, but you can kind of
- 29:27Speaker 3: tell the second he made that he set up that
- 29:29Speaker 3: Byron goal, kind of calmed himself and ease back into
- 29:32Speaker 3: the game, and then he kind of was just a
- 29:35Speaker 3: force for the rest of the game, Like he was
- 29:36Speaker 3: so effective on the fore check him. Benson and Don't
- 29:40Speaker 3: has to be the most annoying thing in the world
- 29:42Speaker 3: because they're all Don't aside because Don't has like normal
- 29:47Speaker 3: NHL side, but like Austlin and Benson are just so
- 29:50Speaker 3: much smaller, but they're they're able to like use their
- 29:52Speaker 3: lower body and their backstrength to shield the puck, keep
- 29:55Speaker 3: players at bay work behind the net, and you can
- 29:57Speaker 3: tell like it's just it's frustrating to play against a
- 30:00Speaker 3: player like them. And then when you have a guy
- 30:02Speaker 3: who's just gifted as as Austlin, is that think that
- 30:04Speaker 3: pass to Byron was a sick oh pass, like from
- 30:07Speaker 3: behind the net to the defenseman like that. I know
- 30:10Speaker 3: it took a bit of a deflection like tip for
- 30:11Speaker 3: him to spot that pass and deliver it. Not many
- 30:14Speaker 3: players on the Sabers I think can pass the way
- 30:17Speaker 3: that he is. He might be their best peer playmaker
- 30:19Speaker 3: at this point in time. And that's saying something because
- 30:21Speaker 3: Benson McLeod are pretty good set up guys.
- 30:24Speaker 1: So let's uh, let's go over just some of the
- 30:27Speaker 1: game stats really quick, as always, brought to you by
- 30:29Speaker 1: Janel Flooring. If they need a better deal anywhere so
- 30:31Speaker 1: you don't know, Jack, check out them out at Janelflooring
- 30:33Speaker 1: dot com or visit their Naga Falls location being your
- 30:36Speaker 1: Pully flooring project. Today, the Savers outshot that Burns twenty
- 30:39Speaker 1: eight to twenty five in the game. They actually led
- 30:41Speaker 1: in the faceoff dot which was something that the Savers
- 30:44Speaker 1: have not done in all season long. The power play
- 30:47Speaker 1: that we mentioned just continues to be horrendous zero for five,
- 30:50Speaker 1: although four for four in the penalty kill, you can
- 30:53Speaker 1: take that as a positive. There hits thirty eight to
- 30:56Speaker 1: thirty five for the in favor of the Savers. We
- 30:58Speaker 1: knew that that was going to be a point of
- 30:59Speaker 1: v Is coming in and Marco Stern had that sound
- 31:02Speaker 1: by at the beginning, saying that we're a better we're
- 31:04Speaker 1: a more physical team than the Sabers are, and Lindy
- 31:06Speaker 1: Reff kind of, you know, laughed it off. But the
- 31:09Speaker 1: Sabers have definitely shown that they're not backing down to
- 31:11Speaker 1: a team like the Bruins in that sense. And then
- 31:13Speaker 1: six or five in favor of Buffalo and the takeaway department.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I don't know if you want to mention anything here
- 31:20Speaker 1: from the game stats tonight.
- 31:23Speaker 3: No, I mean, the face offs are surprising obviously because
- 31:25Speaker 3: that I think at one point in game two, face
- 31:27Speaker 3: offs were like nineteen to three in favor of the Bruins,
- 31:30Speaker 3: So being able to come away with it, it kind
- 31:32Speaker 3: of seems like it kind of felt like every big
- 31:35Speaker 3: penalty kill faceoff in the third period Buffalo one, I
- 31:38Speaker 3: think at one point, the Sabers were seventy five percent
- 31:40Speaker 3: on the penalty kill in the third period, so or
- 31:42Speaker 3: just in general, I think it was for face offs,
- 31:44Speaker 3: So like that's huge. That's a big reason why the
- 31:47Speaker 3: penalty kill is able to kind of do what they
- 31:48Speaker 3: do and be as aggressive as they were. But face offs,
- 31:51Speaker 3: I know it can kind of people kind of grow
- 31:53Speaker 3: when we talk about it, but like there are times
- 31:55Speaker 3: where it's extremely important, and a series like this it's
- 31:58Speaker 3: been crucial. So it was good to see Buffalo away
- 32:00Speaker 3: with that. I mean, the power play is the power
- 32:03Speaker 3: play kind of just it is what it is. The
- 32:05Speaker 3: hitting is notable because especially Games one and three, the
- 32:10Speaker 3: Savers out hit the Bruins, but they also kind of
- 32:13Speaker 3: felt like they possessed they possessed the puck more than
- 32:16Speaker 3: the Bruins, which is kind of not how it's supposed
- 32:18Speaker 3: to work. Like you're not supposed to you're supposed to
- 32:20Speaker 3: throw hits when you don't have the puck, and it
- 32:22Speaker 3: just hasn't felt like that. And through games one and three,
- 32:25Speaker 3: which is obviously a good sign for Buffalo, they are
- 32:27Speaker 3: kind of proving that we're not going to back down
- 32:30Speaker 3: just because you pretend that you're more like you can
- 32:31Speaker 3: think that you're more physical than us, but when the
- 32:34Speaker 3: time comes, we're gonna be able to do it. Like
- 32:35Speaker 3: Tage Thompson. Tage Thompson didn't have any points or anything tonight,
- 32:39Speaker 3: but he threw a couple of really big hits and
- 32:40Speaker 3: was really effective on the wall in the four tracks.
- 32:42Speaker 3: So you're seeing players like Tage Chuck had the goal tonight,
- 32:46Speaker 3: but like you're seeing those guys do more than just
- 32:47Speaker 3: try to provide offense. And that's what playoff hockey is
- 32:50Speaker 3: all about.
- 32:51Speaker 1: So we'll move forward with the scoring summary tonight brought
- 32:54Speaker 1: to you by the NAGRE Employment Help Center helping people
- 32:56Speaker 1: find work in the Niagara region since nineteen eighty three.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Check out Throw Up Today job board at each one
- 33:00Speaker 1: to find your next work opportunity today. And yeah, you mentioned, uh,
- 33:05Speaker 1: you know that, I don't know we can talk about
- 33:07Speaker 1: the power play until the until the couch come home.
- 33:09Speaker 1: I mean, it's just ye, I can't. I can't stress
- 33:12Speaker 1: about it anymore. Everybody knows what the problems are on it,
- 33:15Speaker 1: and they just need to get this thing figured out
- 33:17Speaker 1: because I don't know if you can go deep, if
- 33:20Speaker 1: you're you can't even score a goal in their your
- 33:22Speaker 1: last thirty five power play opportunities, Like I don't know
- 33:25Speaker 1: any of these other top teams that they're gonna get
- 33:27Speaker 1: a late power play needing a goal. Luckily, it's worked
- 33:30Speaker 1: in the Sabers favor as you said, they're up to
- 33:32Speaker 1: one in the series. But it it's just it's got
- 33:35Speaker 1: to be better.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, like we've we've we've talked about it
- 33:39Speaker 3: ad nauseum, like it's it's gonna kill them at some point.
- 33:42Speaker 3: I just hopefully it's not during the series. But hey,
- 33:47Speaker 3: I mean, unfortunately, if the trade off is you dominate
- 33:51Speaker 3: the series on five one five, I think I'll be
- 33:52Speaker 3: okay with that, because whether we want to talk about
- 33:56Speaker 3: it or not, Like I do expect officiating to tighten
- 33:58Speaker 3: up as these playoffs gets deeper. Kind of has been
- 34:01Speaker 3: the classic We're gonna call a bunch of penalties in
- 34:03Speaker 3: the first round because people say we never call penalties
- 34:05Speaker 3: in the playoffs and kind of tighten it up. But
- 34:08Speaker 3: we'll see, I mean, looking at the scoring summary there,
- 34:10Speaker 3: like we kind of already talked about it, like Tuck
- 34:13Speaker 3: Byronman also were their best three players offensively? There are
- 34:17Speaker 3: two players I want to mention that didn't show up
- 34:19Speaker 3: on the score, So we kind of already talked about McLoud.
- 34:20Speaker 3: I thought McLoud was excellent, you know, whether it be
- 34:22Speaker 3: on the penalty kill or his ability to carry the
- 34:24Speaker 3: pucket use his speed to be effective. I think one
- 34:27Speaker 3: of the things that was kind of talked about when
- 34:30Speaker 3: the Oilers traded him was he wasn't as effective on
- 34:33Speaker 3: their playoff runs as they would have liked him to be.
- 34:35Speaker 3: And he might not have the production right now, but
- 34:37Speaker 3: he's been one of the sabers more effective players, and
- 34:40Speaker 3: I think Connor Timmins deserves a huge shout out him
- 34:42Speaker 3: man Logan Stanley, if you want to talk about both
- 34:44Speaker 3: of them, they've been good, but Tims was kind of
- 34:48Speaker 3: hot garbage down the stretch a little bit, and that's
- 34:50Speaker 3: why he wasn't in regularly. That's why we were seeing
- 34:52Speaker 3: a guy like Zach Metz to play. But you're seeing
- 34:55Speaker 3: Timmins' playoff experience shine through early on here. He is
- 34:58Speaker 3: blocking shots on the penalty kill, He's been smart with
- 35:01Speaker 3: the puck. Him and Stanley, I think was our biggest
- 35:03Speaker 3: fear going into this, how would they fare? And I
- 35:05Speaker 3: think him and Stanley have been a strength.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I was actually gonna ask you about that, about
- 35:09Speaker 1: how you thought about that third pair, because we both
- 35:11Speaker 1: thought Metza kessel Ring definitely not shen unless they wanted
- 35:15Speaker 1: to get into a Donnie Brook with Tampa Bay. But
- 35:18Speaker 1: I've been pretty impressed with the way Stanley and Timmins
- 35:20Speaker 1: have been playing. Timmins has come up with some big blocks.
- 35:22Speaker 1: He came up with another big one tonight tonight, you know.
- 35:25Speaker 1: And Stanley he hasn't like really gotten out of place
- 35:28Speaker 1: and out of order, hasn't taken stupid penalties. Again, we
- 35:31Speaker 1: know his mobility isn't quite there, but you can see
- 35:34Speaker 1: the playoff experience Timmins, you know, in his time in
- 35:37Speaker 1: the NHL, and also Stanley with his time with the
- 35:40Speaker 1: Winnipeg Jets. It's definitely paying off. And yeah, I think
- 35:43Speaker 1: that as long as they got serviceable you know play
- 35:46Speaker 1: from those two guys and that third pair, the Sabers
- 35:49Speaker 1: were gonna be good. But yeah, I agree. I think
- 35:51Speaker 1: Connor Timmins, the Saint Catherine's native, has really stepped it
- 35:54Speaker 1: up in this playoffs for Buffalo and been a valuable
- 35:56Speaker 1: piece as that sixth defenseman.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and like you know, we kind of laughed at, like, oh,
- 36:01Speaker 3: Timmins is playing because of the penalty kill. Well, he's
- 36:04Speaker 3: been huge on the penalty kill and that's been a
- 36:06Speaker 3: big deal for the Sabers in these first three games.
- 36:08Speaker 3: So definitely thought he deserved a shout out there because
- 36:10Speaker 3: he's kind of doing the work that people don't love doing.
- 36:16Speaker 3: You know, it's not fun to take a bunch of
- 36:18Speaker 3: shots to your body, but he's doing it and he's
- 36:21Speaker 3: I think it was Game one on the penalty kill,
- 36:24Speaker 3: like he came from the corner and like skate it
- 36:27Speaker 3: out into the slot and dove across the block of shot.
- 36:29Speaker 3: It's just like that. That's the type of thing where
- 36:30Speaker 3: it's like you're seeing timmins playoff experience kind of shine through,
- 36:35Speaker 3: and honestly, the same kind of goes for Byram. I
- 36:37Speaker 3: mean you just like he's been on cup runs and
- 36:40Speaker 3: stuff with Colorado and you're kind of seeing it like this.
- 36:43Speaker 3: The playoffs haven't looked too big for Byram. I think
- 36:47Speaker 3: Dollen has struggled a bit through these first three games.
- 36:50Speaker 3: I don't think anyone is a shock to anyone there.
- 36:52Speaker 3: So you can look at it one of two ways.
- 36:55Speaker 3: The good Dollen is gonna come and that's going to
- 36:57Speaker 3: be beneficial for the Sabers or like we're gonna have
- 37:00Speaker 3: to go on a run until Doling kind of figures
- 37:02Speaker 3: it out. Because I think right now, byron empower is
- 37:06Speaker 3: your top unit. I know power is kind of a
- 37:08Speaker 3: you know, polarizing figure, but I've I've liked going power
- 37:12Speaker 3: through these first three games.
- 37:13Speaker 1: He jumped into the third. The third game, he can
- 37:16Speaker 1: tell he was a little bit more engaged in the offense.
- 37:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's the Sabers bread and butter is there
- 37:22Speaker 3: are defense activating and you saw it in the first
- 37:24Speaker 3: game a little bit. You didn't really see it in
- 37:26Speaker 3: the second game, and you saw it tonight and it
- 37:28Speaker 3: made a huge difference.
- 37:31Speaker 1: So that that first goal for Janeau, that was to me,
- 37:34Speaker 1: that was the only mistake of Alex Lion made tonight.
- 37:37Speaker 1: I need to save there coming down the left wing
- 37:39Speaker 1: short side Tanner Janeau's first career playoff goal. You know,
- 37:44Speaker 1: roll eye roll on that one, because you know he's
- 37:46Speaker 1: just been a giant, you know, haint in the butt
- 37:48Speaker 1: for the Sabers so far, and you know he's in
- 37:50Speaker 1: his career with Nashville and Tampa just more of a
- 37:53Speaker 1: you know, bruising fourth fourth line type of guy. And
- 37:56Speaker 1: you know he was getting at it with the Sabers
- 37:57Speaker 1: bench in Game two with those colorful comment he was
- 38:00Speaker 1: making in between the benches and things like that. But
- 38:03Speaker 1: to me, that was the only some mistake Alex Lion
- 38:05Speaker 1: made tonight. And you know, gave the Burns and one
- 38:08Speaker 1: nothing leading the second.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that's when, again, not a goal you want to
- 38:13Speaker 3: give up. Kind of a brutal turnover before that, but
- 38:15Speaker 3: again it's just a goal you'd like to see your
- 38:16Speaker 3: goalie save. Thankfully, Lion was able to make up for
- 38:19Speaker 3: it in other ways. But yeah, it's just the one
- 38:21Speaker 3: mistake that he made. But I don't know that he
- 38:23Speaker 3: was solid, like his his saves early on in the
- 38:25Speaker 3: first period were so crucial and just you could tell
- 38:29Speaker 3: the savers were not nervous tonight, but you could tell
- 38:31Speaker 3: a couple of those big saves were like all right,
- 38:33Speaker 3: Like it's hard to explain how good you feel when
- 38:36Speaker 3: you know your goalies on and aside from that one goal,
- 38:38Speaker 3: you just you Lion was on tonight and it kind
- 38:41Speaker 3: of helps relax everybody, especially when the goaltending was shaky.
- 38:45Speaker 1: He gave two Yeah, he made that like sprawling save
- 38:48Speaker 1: on Lindholm and the rebound on Geekye on the penalty
- 38:50Speaker 1: kill in the first period, like that was a massive
- 38:52Speaker 1: save at that point. And then even after he gave
- 38:54Speaker 1: up the goal to you know know, I think it
- 38:56Speaker 1: was the next shift Pasturenoch had a chance where he
- 38:58Speaker 1: kind of were line and stumbled and almost had to
- 39:01Speaker 1: get back in a position he was way out of
- 39:03Speaker 1: the net, and he was able to make the save
- 39:05Speaker 1: right after that, So you could tell that he was
- 39:06Speaker 1: able to get his composure back come up with a
- 39:08Speaker 1: big save when the Bruins could have went up to
- 39:10Speaker 1: nothing in that game and they had the momentum right
- 39:12Speaker 1: so and.
- 39:13Speaker 3: The penalty shot, like he it was hard to tell,
- 39:16Speaker 3: but he got a piece like he stopped that with
- 39:17Speaker 3: his blocker like he he was. He was very solid tonight.
- 39:22Speaker 3: And you know, I mean we should say here in Nitpick,
- 39:25Speaker 3: like we said that goal is a tough one to
- 39:26Speaker 3: give up, but when not your only blemish doesn't really matter.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned the penalty shot. That was my next
- 39:33Speaker 1: point is that was the turning point in the game
- 39:34Speaker 1: for me. You know, just unfortunate play where Samulson stick
- 39:38Speaker 1: breaks as he's trying to the Sabers are trying to
- 39:40Speaker 1: break out of the zone and it just gives Arbitson
- 39:43Speaker 1: basically a breakaway. Dline has to hook him in order
- 39:46Speaker 1: to to stop him from getting to the net with
- 39:47Speaker 1: the breakaway. He's award of the penalty shot you mentioned.
- 39:50Speaker 1: He comes down on Lion. We all thought he missed
- 39:52Speaker 1: the net, and they they go back later on and
- 39:54Speaker 1: give us a slow motion replay that Alex Alex Lyon
- 39:57Speaker 1: actually did get a piece of his blocker on that,
- 40:00Speaker 1: so that when the Bruins were up one nothing, with
- 40:02Speaker 1: those two opportunities to go up to nothing for Alex
- 40:05Speaker 1: Line to keep them in that game, we could have
- 40:06Speaker 1: been talking about him a completely different result tonight if
- 40:09Speaker 1: the Bruins score on either of those.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's one thing I think the Sabers are
- 40:14Speaker 3: gonna want to work on because like there has been
- 40:17Speaker 3: a the Bruins also do a good job of not
- 40:20Speaker 3: cherry picking, but they do a good job of like
- 40:22Speaker 3: get like fleeing the zone really, especially that Pasternack line
- 40:25Speaker 3: and get on Arbitson. They do a good job of
- 40:26Speaker 3: getting out leaving the zone really and getting behind the defense.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Obviously that the penalty shot was off of turnover. It
- 40:32Speaker 3: wasn't because of anything like Arbadson stuck behind anybody. It
- 40:35Speaker 3: was just straight up Samuels had broke his stick and
- 40:38Speaker 3: then tried to kick the puck over, which tough situation
- 40:41Speaker 3: for Samuelson. Obviously, it's easy for me to sit there
- 40:45Speaker 3: and say like I'm just falling and eat that puck
- 40:46Speaker 3: instead of trying to kick it over because he kind
- 40:48Speaker 3: of forecasted where he was going with the puck. But
- 40:51Speaker 3: a play there where Dollian probably did what he had
- 40:54Speaker 3: to do because it's just a really unfortunate timing for
- 40:58Speaker 3: that penalty shot holder or a penalty shot turnover there.
- 41:01Speaker 3: But I think all in all of the goalie bailt
- 41:06Speaker 3: Like I said, Lion bailed them out a couple of times,
- 41:09Speaker 3: and that's what you want from your goalie. And most
- 41:12Speaker 3: of the big guys had really good games today for
- 41:14Speaker 3: the Sabers, and they you know, a guy like a
- 41:16Speaker 3: guy like Oaceland steps up like that's huge.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Yeah, he carried the puck in, you know, went behind
- 41:22Speaker 1: the net, fired a beautiful pass that you sort of
- 41:24Speaker 1: mentioned a bit earlier out front to Byram and he's
- 41:27Speaker 1: able to really one touch that that pass and take
- 41:30Speaker 1: that shot right away. I think if Byram waits on
- 41:32Speaker 1: that shot, it doesn't go in and he has to
- 41:34Speaker 1: get it off right away. He's able to get that
- 41:36Speaker 1: quick shot off and I think it went off of
- 41:38Speaker 1: Haggens and over top of Swaymen, so again it didn't
- 41:41Speaker 1: directly go in. But that was just a quick, quick
- 41:44Speaker 1: play and a quick puck to the net that I
- 41:46Speaker 1: feel like the Sabers need to do more of, especially
- 41:48Speaker 1: on the power play where they just try to wait
- 41:49Speaker 1: it out, wait it out, waited out, and that play
- 41:51Speaker 1: by Austlin, you can it didn't look like he was
- 41:53Speaker 1: a guy that's been out for twelve games, that's for sure.
- 41:55Speaker 1: He came up with a big play there and found
- 41:58Speaker 1: Byram and and the Sabers get a lucky bat to
- 42:00Speaker 1: get over top of Swaymen, and that's what they're gonna need.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely, Like I said, Oceland had a few plays
- 42:05Speaker 3: earlier in the game where I was like, you could
- 42:06Speaker 3: see the nerves like a few like weak defensive zone passes.
- 42:12Speaker 3: But once that play happened, he settled in and was
- 42:14Speaker 3: really effective for the Sabers. The tuck Thompson Crebs line,
- 42:19Speaker 3: it just continues to be effective.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Like it.
- 42:24Speaker 3: I guess if Peyton Crebs is just the top line
- 42:25Speaker 3: winger now, like just what it is. But it's crazy
- 42:31Speaker 3: to think that. But the one other thing I'll say
- 42:35Speaker 3: with the Sabers, especially these through these first three games,
- 42:38Speaker 3: it just feels like once they get that first one,
- 42:42Speaker 3: they are able to just relax and score. Like I know,
- 42:46Speaker 3: the second one wasn't like immediately after. It wasn't until
- 42:49Speaker 3: later in the period obviously, but they scored the Yron
- 42:53Speaker 3: goal and you can kind of tell they loosened up
- 42:54Speaker 3: a little bit, were pressing. They got the power player,
- 42:57Speaker 3: though it was trapped, like they were able to kind
- 42:58Speaker 3: of take control back of the game. And then even
- 43:01Speaker 3: through the first two games, once they were able to
- 43:02Speaker 3: crack Swiman, once they were able to to find a
- 43:04Speaker 3: way to beat him a couple of times and start
- 43:06Speaker 3: to generate those more high danger looks and get more
- 43:08Speaker 3: traffic to the net. Tonight felt a lot different than
- 43:12Speaker 3: the first game in terms of it felt like they
- 43:13Speaker 3: were getting traffic in front of the net and getting
- 43:15Speaker 3: those low chances. Swaymen was just playing unreal. He's been
- 43:19Speaker 3: on real the entire series. But definitely good. That something
- 43:24Speaker 3: to note, especially you know, with a big, potentially crucial
- 43:29Speaker 3: Game four coming up, because the Sabers can put a
- 43:30Speaker 3: stranglehold on this series if they went on Sunday to
- 43:33Speaker 3: just keep plugging and playing the way that they played today,
- 43:37Speaker 3: Because if they play the way that they played today
- 43:38Speaker 3: and in Game one, they're gonna beat a lot of
- 43:41Speaker 3: good playoff teams.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean yeah, kind of going off that
- 43:46Speaker 1: point that you mentioned, like getting one on Swaymen is
- 43:48Speaker 1: almost like something that they need to just get over
- 43:50Speaker 1: in the mental hurdle, right Like, once they get that
- 43:52Speaker 1: first goal on them, they feel like, Okay, now we
- 43:54Speaker 1: can we can start to play our game a little bit.
- 43:56Speaker 1: But it's almost like until he lets us get that
- 43:58Speaker 1: first one, it's almost like, oh, we're just gonna get
- 44:00Speaker 1: shut out tonight. It's Uh, Swayman has to be the
- 44:03Speaker 1: Bruins' best player in this series for them to stand
- 44:06Speaker 1: a chance, in my opinion, and he has looked like
- 44:08Speaker 1: their best player on uh in points of this series
- 44:11Speaker 1: so far, for most of it really obviously with the
- 44:15Speaker 1: Sabers that they score in bunches that seemed like in
- 44:17Speaker 1: that those first two games and then tonight coming up
- 44:19Speaker 1: with the three unanswered. But yeah, I just think it's
- 44:22Speaker 1: a It's a thing where they have to mentally get
- 44:25Speaker 1: over themselves to say, hey, we can we can beat
- 44:27Speaker 1: this guy, and when we get one in, we have
- 44:29Speaker 1: the confidence that we're gonna go and get two more,
- 44:31Speaker 1: sort of like they did in game one.
- 44:33Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean when we did our preview thing, we
- 44:35Speaker 3: said that the X factors were gonna be the power
- 44:37Speaker 3: player in Swayman, Swayman versus Upl. Well, Swayman has outdualed Upl.
- 44:42Speaker 3: He didn't outdue a Liant tonight, but he's outdual UPL.
- 44:44Speaker 3: I think he's clearly been nothing against Pasternaker, Geeku and Arbinson,
- 44:48Speaker 3: who have all been very good. But I think Swayman's
- 44:50Speaker 3: clearly been the Bruins' best player. But the Sabers have
- 44:55Speaker 3: been able to beat him twice and that's huge. Uh,
- 44:58Speaker 3: They're gonna have to find a way to Hey, we
- 45:01Speaker 3: made it halfway through the game for scoring today. Now
- 45:04Speaker 3: hopefully in Game four, maybe we could get one in
- 45:06Speaker 3: the first period.
- 45:07Speaker 1: That'd be nice, right, because I think it was a
- 45:10Speaker 1: stat that the Sabers through the first two games. I
- 45:14Speaker 1: think it's just give me one second. I haven't booked
- 45:16Speaker 1: these things bookmarked sadly, but after the Sabers road power play,
- 45:22Speaker 1: by the way, is thirty first in the league, so
- 45:25Speaker 1: that I guess they're sort of going off of that trend.
- 45:28Speaker 1: But the other that one book mark tweet I had.
- 45:30Speaker 1: The second one was lead times through two games. Boston
- 45:34Speaker 1: seventy nine minutes and fifty eight, Buffalo three minutes and
- 45:37Speaker 1: twenty four seconds, so at least they led for more
- 45:40Speaker 1: game time tonight.
- 45:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the crazy thing about that status it
- 45:44Speaker 3: doesn't do Game one justice. It kind of makes it
- 45:46Speaker 3: seem like Buffalo is they were playing from behind in
- 45:49Speaker 3: Game one, but they were the better team in game one.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Game two. That status is perfect capsulation because Boston got
- 45:54Speaker 3: a lead on them early and they were able to
- 45:55Speaker 3: just suffocate the Savers. But yeah, it definitely helps that
- 45:59Speaker 3: you were able to lead for sixteen minutes in this game,
- 46:03Speaker 3: because that is something that Buffalo has been good at
- 46:06Speaker 3: this year, Like they've been good at playing with the
- 46:10Speaker 3: lead in the third period. So having that recipe finally happened.
- 46:13Speaker 3: This was the first game this series where they weren't
- 46:15Speaker 3: trailing starting the third period. I think that's a big
- 46:17Speaker 3: help for that team like this.
- 46:19Speaker 1: And this was an interesting game because the Bruins came
- 46:21Speaker 1: in with the second best home record in the National
- 46:24Speaker 1: Hockey League, the Sabers the second best road record in
- 46:26Speaker 1: the National Hockey League, so something had to give.
- 46:30Speaker 3: I guess sorry as I was saying, this was the
- 46:31Speaker 3: first time in this series that they were tied going
- 46:34Speaker 3: into the third period, which I think is obviously huge
- 46:36Speaker 3: mentally being able to not have like knowing you have
- 46:39Speaker 3: to just win a period and you win the game,
- 46:41Speaker 3: rather than like, oh crap, we got to claw our
- 46:43Speaker 3: way back on a huge deficite here. But yeah, I
- 46:46Speaker 3: mean through three games, it's gone pretty well for the Sabers.
- 46:49Speaker 3: They don't you know, people will obviously have some things
- 46:51Speaker 3: we can nitpick, but being up to one, like you said,
- 46:55Speaker 3: I think the Sabers were the best road team in
- 46:57Speaker 3: the East or in terms of wins and second only
- 47:01Speaker 3: to Colorado with road winds, which is a big thing
- 47:03Speaker 3: because we know how good Boston has been at home.
- 47:05Speaker 3: But being able to take home ice back right away
- 47:08Speaker 3: got to be a huge, huge relief for this team
- 47:10Speaker 3: because worst case scenario, you're coming back home tied best case,
- 47:16Speaker 3: you're coming back home up through.
- 47:17Speaker 1: One and Alex Tuck got that the game winning goal
- 47:21Speaker 1: and Tage Thompson screening in front of the net. You know,
- 47:24Speaker 1: that was just a great play. Crabs sort of stole
- 47:27Speaker 1: the puck, as they say, the Bruins were trying trying
- 47:30Speaker 1: to transition out of the zone. The Sabers kept it
- 47:32Speaker 1: in and they find Tuck out front from sort of
- 47:34Speaker 1: the the left hash mark there and he fires it
- 47:37Speaker 1: over top a swim and he didn't see this puck
- 47:38Speaker 1: at all with big six foot seven stage tops and
- 47:41Speaker 1: standing in front of him, which maybe that gives Lindy
- 47:44Speaker 1: Rough an idea maybe what he should do in the
- 47:45Speaker 1: power play. But well, going back to game one, like
- 47:48Speaker 1: and that was a in the game winning goal tonight.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Turnovers this the Bruins had the puck understick three times
- 47:56Speaker 1: between game one and this game tonight, where the Sabers
- 47:59Speaker 1: you know, for check and just being able to cause
- 48:02Speaker 1: the Bruins to create a turnover led to their goals.
- 48:05Speaker 1: It wasn't like they're just scoring off the rush. The
- 48:07Speaker 1: Sabers did the hard work with the Bruins having the
- 48:09Speaker 1: puck on their stick. I know one of the goals
- 48:11Speaker 1: was because a Bruins stick broke, But again, that doesn't
- 48:14Speaker 1: even happen if the Sabers don't don't have a you know,
- 48:17Speaker 1: a good attack in that sense, and being able to
- 48:19Speaker 1: create those those turnovers and get those giveaways from Boston
- 48:22Speaker 1: that it led to a game winning goal tonight and
- 48:24Speaker 1: two goals earlier in the series.
- 48:26Speaker 3: Yeah, the Bruins like doubled up the Sabers and giveaways,
- 48:28Speaker 3: which is a huge deal. I think if you watch
- 48:30Speaker 3: the Sabers carefully this year, when they're not loose with
- 48:34Speaker 3: the puck, they're just a dominant team, and tonight they
- 48:37Speaker 3: weren't loose with the puck. Obviously you have giveaways here
- 48:39Speaker 3: and there, but they only had eight of them tonight,
- 48:41Speaker 3: So that's a big thing. It's those small margins that
- 48:44Speaker 3: are gonna help when the power play is as bad
- 48:46Speaker 3: as it is, because normally we say the power play
- 48:48Speaker 3: is the X factor. Well, we know the power play
- 48:50Speaker 3: is not going to be a positive X factor for
- 48:52Speaker 3: the Sabers, so they're going to have to find these
- 48:54Speaker 3: little margins elsewhere and being smart with the puck, getting
- 48:58Speaker 3: that good goaltending and just having you know, being able
- 49:03Speaker 3: to play a dump and chase game, which is not
- 49:06Speaker 3: something we're used to with the Sabers. It makes a
- 49:08Speaker 3: huge difference when you can use your four check as
- 49:12Speaker 3: a weapon instead of just relying off the rush end through.
- 49:15Speaker 3: Like the two games that they won, the four check
- 49:17Speaker 3: was relentless and that is the recipe for the Savers,
- 49:19Speaker 3: and the best part about that is easily duplicated, like
- 49:22Speaker 3: you could do that night in a night out.
- 49:24Speaker 1: And the Bruins, they were given every opportunity in the
- 49:26Speaker 1: world to tie this game late, right like the two penalties,
- 49:29Speaker 1: the Dalline interference penalty with when him and macavoy ran
- 49:31Speaker 1: into each other. To me, that was ridiculous. Tage getting
- 49:34Speaker 1: called for a trip as well later in the game.
- 49:37Speaker 1: I don't even want to go back to the penalty
- 49:39Speaker 1: in the first period where Timmins got called for something
- 49:42Speaker 1: on Pastornak when he was falling. That one was brutal
- 49:45Speaker 1: to me too, But again, it is what it is.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Officiating is what it is. But the Sabers are able
- 49:50Speaker 1: to kill off both those late power plays by the Bruins.
- 49:52Speaker 1: The six on five as well, after the Bruins had
- 49:55Speaker 1: taken their time out and Noah Austlin gets the empty
- 49:57Speaker 1: net goal and the Savers are able to close it
- 49:59Speaker 1: out there in the final five minutes.
- 50:01Speaker 3: Yeah, just a pure unreal effort played by Ocelan on
- 50:04Speaker 3: that empty neckl too to beat out the icing and
- 50:06Speaker 3: then also get that puck in. Was just he provided
- 50:10Speaker 3: such a boost that even more so than I think
- 50:12Speaker 3: any of us thought it, Like we knew he was
- 50:13Speaker 3: going to be effective when he got back in, but
- 50:15Speaker 3: I don't know one obviously saw this type of performance
- 50:18Speaker 3: for him and his playoff debut, but he was just
- 50:21Speaker 3: he was unreal. The Sabers locked it down when they
- 50:24Speaker 3: needed to, and though you know their big forward line
- 50:28Speaker 3: was good, that McLeod quinn Zucker line I thought was
- 50:31Speaker 3: effective at five on five like it, This was honestly
- 50:36Speaker 3: a game that was not as close as the scoreboard was.
- 50:40Speaker 3: Like the Sabers were just not even. It was not
- 50:43Speaker 3: close at five on five, like I've said it a
- 50:45Speaker 3: couple of times already tonight, like they they were so
- 50:47Speaker 3: good at five on five, Boston didn't really have a chance.
- 50:50Speaker 3: The only time Boston got chances was, like I said,
- 50:53Speaker 3: off a mistake or when Buffalo was on the penalty kill.
- 50:57Speaker 3: But Buffalo's penalty kill was great tonight and a big
- 51:00Speaker 3: reason of that is Lion Tuck McLeod Timmins. So they
- 51:05Speaker 3: deserve a lot of credit a great, great way to
- 51:08Speaker 3: rebound back after that loss. Especially in the playoffs, we
- 51:11Speaker 3: always talk about how do you respond to a loss.
- 51:13Speaker 3: That's kind of been an issue with the Savers of
- 51:15Speaker 3: the past is they don't respond well the losses. This year,
- 51:18Speaker 3: they've been able to battle through adversity and this was
- 51:19Speaker 3: just another test that they passed with I'm not gonna
- 51:22Speaker 3: give him flying colors because the power play is still garbage,
- 51:25Speaker 3: but they passed the test really well and it just
- 51:30Speaker 3: feels like, again we said it in the preview episode,
- 51:33Speaker 3: aside from swaymen, Buffalo is a better team and it's
- 51:35Speaker 3: shown through two of these three games.
- 51:37Speaker 1: And pastornock to me like he's missed a lot of opportunities,
- 51:40Speaker 1: especially on the power play high and wide. We knew
- 51:43Speaker 1: that eighty eight they would have to lock in on
- 51:46Speaker 1: him to be able to have success in the series,
- 51:48Speaker 1: and for the most part they've been able to shut
- 51:49Speaker 1: him down and even Morgan geeky to a lesser extent.
- 51:52Speaker 1: I know he had a goal in the first game,
- 51:54Speaker 1: but the Savers have done a good job of limiting
- 51:57Speaker 1: the opportunities for those those big guys and the big guns,
- 51:59Speaker 1: for the especially passeronok we know how dangerous he is,
- 52:03Speaker 1: but Austland in his playoff debut one goal, one assist
- 52:06Speaker 1: plus two fourteen minutes and eighteen seconds of ice time
- 52:09Speaker 1: on twenty shifts, two shots on net at a block
- 52:11Speaker 1: shot as well, So can't ask for much more of
- 52:13Speaker 1: a guy, especially that's missed the last twelve games as
- 52:16Speaker 1: well coming in.
- 52:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, a twenty two year old rookie in
- 52:20Speaker 3: his playoff debut, coming off an injury to step up
- 52:24Speaker 3: like that just awesome. It's that type of contribution, is
- 52:28Speaker 3: that type of performance that makes a difference in a
- 52:30Speaker 3: playoff game, in a playoff series. So for him to
- 52:33Speaker 3: get that under his belt like immediately, it's going to
- 52:35Speaker 3: be a huge, huge boost for him going forward and
- 52:38Speaker 3: then a huge boost for the Sabers because you know,
- 52:42Speaker 3: we have to talk like the Norris thing. If he
- 52:44Speaker 3: truly is only day to day, he's not done, Like
- 52:46Speaker 3: we'll get an update obviously, but as right now we
- 52:48Speaker 3: gotta take rough as his word. Well, he's going to
- 52:50Speaker 3: be day to day being able to get Norris back
- 52:52Speaker 3: in and add Oceland to the lineup is going to
- 52:54Speaker 3: be huge for them, and Osland kind of showed today
- 52:56Speaker 3: alone like when I'm in, I need to be playing
- 53:00Speaker 3: because without him they don't win tonight.
- 53:03Speaker 1: So theoretically, if Norris is back for Game four and
- 53:06Speaker 1: he goes back to that third line center role where
- 53:09Speaker 1: you put Auceland.
- 53:11Speaker 3: I genuinely don't know, because Crebs has been playing so
- 53:14Speaker 3: well with those two guys. My initial thought was Kreb's
- 53:16Speaker 3: fourth line center. And then Benson comes out. Yeah, Kozak
- 53:22Speaker 3: comes out, Benson goes up to Thompson and Tuck, and
- 53:24Speaker 3: then you go back to the Oaceland Norris don't line
- 53:26Speaker 3: that was working so well because again I know they
- 53:30Speaker 3: I've actually really like Jordan Greenway hasn't really been a
- 53:34Speaker 3: problem in the had a great shot tonight. He looks
- 53:38Speaker 3: for he looks fast for Jordan Greenway, which is a
- 53:41Speaker 3: compliment because he's not a fast skater. Like his skating
- 53:44Speaker 3: looks extremely good. He's using his size, he's using his reach.
- 53:47Speaker 3: Allenstein is Maalleenstine. So it would have to be Kozak
- 53:51Speaker 3: coming out, and then some kind of configuration with the lines,
- 53:54Speaker 3: and I don't truly know what it would be, but
- 53:57Speaker 3: that's a problem for another day. Like I said, it's
- 53:59Speaker 3: it's hard to take one of Rough had his word
- 54:00Speaker 3: with day to day injuries because we that's just Lindy Ruff,
- 54:03Speaker 3: It's what he does.
- 54:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean, you can't be upset with what
- 54:08Speaker 1: you saw from No. Austlin tonight, and it gives you
- 54:09Speaker 1: a lot of encouragement if Norris is to miss another
- 54:12Speaker 1: game or two in the series, that they're gonna be
- 54:14Speaker 1: okay okay in that sense. And we don't expect Sam
- 54:17Speaker 1: Carreck to be back until possibly the second round at
- 54:19Speaker 1: this point, which is unfortunate because he's obviously one of
- 54:21Speaker 1: the Sabers' best, uh you know, contributors on the faceoff
- 54:24Speaker 1: dot and him with Mallenstein were so good on that
- 54:26Speaker 1: fourth line, even contributing some goals late in the season.
- 54:29Speaker 1: So are you good with them sticking with Stanley and
- 54:31Speaker 1: Timmins as well in that third pair. Don't change anything
- 54:34Speaker 1: up right now we won't see the scoring.
- 54:36Speaker 3: And yeah, no, I don't think you need to change
- 54:39Speaker 3: anything on the defense. If you really wanted to, maybe
- 54:42Speaker 3: you could tweak the top four some way, like maybe buyer.
- 54:47Speaker 3: I don't I don't even know. I wouldn't touch the
- 54:48Speaker 3: defensive pairs because Sanderson had a great Game one, Dollyen
- 54:51Speaker 3: has struggled, but he's still dolly and and empower Environm
- 54:53Speaker 3: have just been really good. And Stanley and Timmins they
- 54:56Speaker 3: fit well for this type of series, like Stanley like
- 55:00Speaker 3: they haven't been a problem at all. So I think
- 55:02Speaker 3: the defense is good. I think the lineup is good.
- 55:04Speaker 3: We just know if Josh Norris is healthy. We know
- 55:06Speaker 3: he's gonna play because he's an eight million dollars center
- 55:08Speaker 3: and he's he's a good player where he's healthy. So
- 55:10Speaker 3: it'll be interesting what happens here with a two day break.
- 55:13Speaker 3: But winning and going into that two day break is
- 55:16Speaker 3: not only good for the Savers mentally, is good for
- 55:18Speaker 3: Sabers fans mentally because now we can kind of just
- 55:20Speaker 3: enjoy the weekend and have a chance to go up
- 55:24Speaker 3: through one on Sunday.
- 55:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, quick thoughts. You were in the bill,
- 55:27Speaker 1: you were at the the canal side on for Game two?
- 55:31Speaker 1: Was what was the vibe like there? And then you
- 55:33Speaker 1: know TV only does a justice, but for somebody that
- 55:36Speaker 1: was on the ground there, what was that.
- 55:37Speaker 3: Experience, like I mean, vibe at the start of the
- 55:39Speaker 3: game was awesome. I imagine it was pretty similar. No,
- 55:42Speaker 3: it obviously wasn't the exact same as game one because
- 55:44Speaker 3: Game one was like the full on nostalgia and everything,
- 55:46Speaker 3: but Game two it was rocketers, people in the trees.
- 55:49Speaker 3: Obviously the game didn't go that well, so it wasn't
- 55:52Speaker 3: the best, But come Oleside's cool and I hope, I mean,
- 55:55Speaker 3: we'll see what happens if they go on a deep run.
- 55:57Speaker 3: I kind of hope that they try to open it
- 55:59Speaker 3: up for more than just home games, because it would
- 56:01Speaker 3: be cool to have something like that for a road game.
- 56:03Speaker 3: But that's a topic for another day. But watching playoff hockey,
- 56:08Speaker 3: it's it's nothing like it.
- 56:10Speaker 1: No, absolutely, So I guess you're we're gonna go to
- 56:14Speaker 1: our player of the game, brought to you by the
- 56:15Speaker 1: Niagradentric Clinic, creating national smiles in the Naga region for
- 56:17Speaker 1: over twenty five years. I know you mentioned McLeod there
- 56:22Speaker 1: as he sort of in Austland. I think would probably
- 56:24Speaker 1: be your player of the game.
- 56:25Speaker 3: I mean, I think he's the easy player of the
- 56:28Speaker 3: game right because of the way he played. But honestly,
- 56:30Speaker 3: I'm gonna go I'll go with Byron right, Austin I
- 56:34Speaker 3: had a couple of huge plays obviously, but Byron has
- 56:37Speaker 3: just been steady and has really stepped up when their
- 56:40Speaker 3: best defenseman hasn't been himself, and that's made a huge difference.
- 56:44Speaker 3: So Byron's gonna get the flowers for me, because we've
- 56:46Speaker 3: kind of already talked about Austlin. But Byron's ability to
- 56:49Speaker 3: activate gain you know, gain the zone with possession, use
- 56:53Speaker 3: his passing and his shooting ability. He's you know, he's
- 56:55Speaker 3: got two goals in the last two games. He's been
- 56:57Speaker 3: really effective. I thought Tonight was the the driving force
- 57:00Speaker 3: behind behind the blue line him in power to me,
- 57:02Speaker 3: where the are the top pair right now?
- 57:05Speaker 1: And I'll go with the Alex Lion Tonight stop in
- 57:07Speaker 1: twenty four to twenty five, came up with big saves
- 57:09Speaker 1: in that middle period where the Bruins could have went
- 57:11Speaker 1: up to nothing. Obviously on the penalty shot as well.
- 57:13Speaker 1: So a great job by Alex Lion getting his you know,
- 57:17Speaker 1: big pressure moment there, coming in in a in a
- 57:19Speaker 1: one to one series, hadn't played, hadn't started the game
- 57:22Speaker 1: in quite a while, and he comes in there and
- 57:23Speaker 1: comes with a big performance. Even after giving up that
- 57:27Speaker 1: first goal, he rebounded really well and you could tell,
- 57:29Speaker 1: you know, the veteran presence that he brings to the
- 57:31Speaker 1: Sabers team. So I'm gonna give it to Alex Lion tonight.
- 57:34Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely deserving he I think they said on the
- 57:37Speaker 3: broadcast at like four of his five playoffs, four of
- 57:40Speaker 3: his last five playoff starts have been against Boston, and
- 57:44Speaker 3: you know, he was part of that that Florida team
- 57:47Speaker 3: that came back and took Boston. I know, Butbroski kind
- 57:50Speaker 3: of took over for line at the at the turning
- 57:53Speaker 3: point of that series. But Lions has some playoff experience,
- 57:56Speaker 3: especially in that building. So he was a rock and
- 57:59Speaker 3: that's that's that was absolutely needed after some shaky play
- 58:04Speaker 3: by lucan In so a lot of very worthy player.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Game four goes Sunday afternoon, two o'clock, two o'clock game.
- 58:12Speaker 1: It's almost feels like a football Sunday in that sense.
- 58:14Speaker 1: Uh yeah, maybe we'll be back with you guys for
- 58:16Speaker 1: some postgame thoughts on that one as well. But austin
- 58:19Speaker 1: final thoughts as we wrap this one up. Sabers up
- 58:21Speaker 1: to one in the series. One more on the road here.
- 58:23Speaker 3: No, I mean final thoughts is, how how do you
- 58:25Speaker 3: not feel good? Right? They responded to the loss extremely well.
- 58:28Speaker 3: They got two days off now to kind of tweak
- 58:30Speaker 3: their power play, which I know is a problem. But
- 58:32Speaker 3: they have a chance to go up three to one
- 58:33Speaker 3: on Sunday and put a stranglehold on this series. And
- 58:37Speaker 3: how do you not how are you not happy with that?
- 58:39Speaker 3: So and they again, like I'll reiterate it again, just
- 58:43Speaker 3: a dominant team at five on five against the Bruges tonight,
- 58:46Speaker 3: so that's extremely positive.
- 58:49Speaker 1: And they led for more than three minutes in the game,
- 58:51Speaker 1: so that's also a very big positive as well. So
- 58:54Speaker 1: that's going to wrap it up for our Saber Semantics
- 58:56Speaker 1: postgame episode following Game three of the Stanley Cup Playoffs
- 58:59Speaker 1: against the Boston Burns, winning it by a three to
- 59:01Speaker 1: one score and taking a two to one series lead.
