- 0:00Welcome to Pomoja Podcast, a ministry of Life
- 0:03of Christ International Ministries, the place
- 0:07where stronger lives are built, faith is strengthened,
- 0:11hearts are encouraged, and Christ -centered homes
- 0:15are shaped through ordinary conversations that
- 0:18become extraordinary encounters with God's truth.
- 0:22One conversation, one story, one revelation at
- 0:27a time. In our last conversation, we discovered
- 0:32that every house has windows. Every marriage
- 0:35has windows. Every covenant has windows. And
- 0:39I left you with a question. If the greatest danger
- 0:43is not always the storm outside, how does the
- 0:47enemy get inside? Today, I want to answer that
- 0:51question through an old story. It is not found
- 0:55in the pages of scripture. But like many stories
- 0:58passed from one generation to another, it carries
- 1:02wisdom. It is the kind of story elders tell around
- 1:06a fire, simple yet unforgettable. The story says
- 1:12there was once a husband and wife who lived peacefully
- 1:16together. Their home was known for its warmth.
- 1:20Travelers often admired it. Neighbors respected
- 1:23it. People who entered always felt welcomed.
- 1:28One evening, a traveler arrived at their door.
- 1:32He looked tired. Dust covered his clothes. His
- 1:36voice was gentle. His smile seemed sincere. He
- 1:41asked for nothing more than a place to rest for
- 1:43the night. The couple looked at one another.
- 1:46How could they refuse? After all, hospitality
- 1:50is honorable. Scripture teaches kindness to strangers,
- 1:55so they welcome him. They prepared a meal. They
- 1:58offered him water. They gave him a place near
- 2:01the fire. That evening, they laughed together,
- 2:05shared stories, talked about life. Everything
- 2:09seemed harmless. The next morning, the traveler
- 2:14remained. He offered to help around the house.
- 2:18He complimented the husband. He praised the wife.
- 2:21He appeared grateful. Again, nothing seemed wrong.
- 2:26Days passed, then something changed, not in his
- 2:30behavior, in his conversations. When the husband
- 2:33was away, the traveler would casually speak with
- 2:36the wife. I noticed you carry many responsibilities.
- 2:41You deserve more appreciation. I'm surprised
- 2:44your husband doesn't see how much you do. Nothing
- 2:47offensive, nothing obvious. Just observations.
- 2:52Seeds. Then, when the wife was busy, he spoke
- 2:56privately with the husband. You work so hard.
- 3:00You sacrifice so much. I wonder if she truly
- 3:03understands everything you carry. Again, nothing
- 3:08dramatic. Just words. Simple words. But words
- 3:13have a way of finding fertile ground. Before
- 3:16long. The husband began noticing things he had
- 3:20never noticed before. The wife began remembering
- 3:23disappointments she had long forgiven. Conversations
- 3:27became shorter. Patience became thinner. Suspicion
- 3:32quietly entered the room. The fire still burned.
- 3:36The house still stood. But something invisible
- 3:40had changed. The atmosphere. The elders would
- 3:44end the story with these words. The Traveler
- 3:47never came to steal the house. He came to change
- 3:51its atmosphere. And once the atmosphere changed,
- 3:55everything else became easier to destroy. When
- 4:01I first heard that story, I thought it was simply
- 4:04about being careful who you invite into your
- 4:07home. Now I believe it is much bigger. The Traveler
- 4:12represents every influence we welcome without
- 4:15discernment. Not every influence is evil because
- 4:18it looks evil. Some arrive looking helpful, comforting,
- 4:23understanding, reasonable. That is why discernment
- 4:27is one of the greatest protections God gives
- 4:30his people. When Satan appeared in the Garden
- 4:35of Eden, he did not force his way in. He started
- 4:39a conversation. He asked a question. Did God
- 4:42really say one question? One conversation, one
- 4:47suggestion. That was all it took to open a window.
- 4:51Notice something remarkable. Eve sinned with
- 4:54her hands. Only after she had first entertained
- 4:58the conversation in her mind, every visible fall
- 5:02begins with an invisible conversation. I have
- 5:07learned something through life. The enemy rarely
- 5:11begins with behavior. He begins with perspective.
- 5:16If he can change how you see your spouse, your
- 5:20marriage, your calling, your church, or your
- 5:24God, your actions will eventually follow. Behavior
- 5:29is often the harvest. Perspective was the seed.
- 5:34That is why we must become very careful about
- 5:37the voices we repeatedly listen to. Not every
- 5:40voice deserves access to your marriage. Not every
- 5:44opinion deserves a seat at your table. Not every
- 5:49friendship deserves your deepest confidence.
- 5:52Not every counselor speaks with God's wisdom.
- 5:56Not every social media personality understands
- 5:59covenant. Not every successful person is qualified
- 6:03to teach you how to build a godly home. Influence
- 6:07is never neutral. Every voice is planting something.
- 6:13I have also discovered that the most dangerous
- 6:16influences are rarely loud. They are subtle.
- 6:20A television series that slowly normalizes unfaithfulness.
- 6:26A co -worker who always seems to understand you
- 6:28better than your spouse. An old relationship
- 6:32that begins with, we're just catching up. A private
- 6:36conversation that doesn't mean anything. A comparison
- 6:41that starts with, I wish my marriage were more
- 6:44like theirs. Little by little, the traveler finds
- 6:49a chair by the fire. The tragedy is this. Many
- 6:53people believe they are simply opening a window.
- 6:58They never intended to lose the house. No husband
- 7:01wakes up planning to destroy his family. No wife
- 7:06dreams of breaking her covenant. The collapse
- 7:09usually begins much earlier. when someone or
- 7:13something was allowed to stay long enough to
- 7:17reshape the atmosphere. This is why scripture
- 7:21repeatedly calls us to watchfulness. Not because
- 7:25God wants us to live in fear, but because he
- 7:28has entrusted us with something sacred. Marriage
- 7:31is sacred. Family is sacred. Peace is sacred.
- 7:36The presence of God in your home is sacred. Sacred
- 7:40things deserve protection. There is one line
- 7:45from the elder's story that has never left me.
- 7:48It says, the traveler eventually left the house.
- 7:52But his voice remained. Think about that. The
- 7:55visitor departed. The whisper stayed. How true
- 7:59that is. Many of the voices that shaped us are
- 8:03no longer around. Yet their words still echo
- 8:07in our minds. Sometimes we are still fighting
- 8:10conversations that ended years ago. Sometimes
- 8:14we are still believing lies spoken by people
- 8:17who are no longer in our lives. Sometimes we
- 8:21are still living under the influence of someone
- 8:24who has already walked away. The good news is
- 8:29that God also speaks. and his voice is stronger
- 8:33than every whisper of the traveler. His truth
- 8:36can silence every lie. His word can renew every
- 8:39mind. His spirit can restore the atmosphere of
- 8:42every house willing to welcome him. Next time,
- 8:50we will become even more practical. We will identify
- 8:54the specific windows that are most often left
- 8:57open. The window of words. the window of comparison,
- 9:02the window of offense, the window of secrecy,
- 9:06the window of distraction, the window of influence.
- 9:10And we'll discover that protecting a house is
- 9:13not about building higher walls, it's about wisely
- 9:17guarding the windows God has entrusted to us.
- 9:20Until then, remember this, be careful who you
- 9:25invite into your house, because some guests leave
- 9:29but their voices remain.
