- 3:07Speaker 3: I was going to do a whole 15 minutes on faith,
- 3:11Speaker 3: and I'm not a religious person, but I find it
- 3:16Speaker 3: the most fascinating of all topics and maybe we'll, we'll
- 3:19Speaker 3: shelve that maybe until next week, but I did want
- 3:21Speaker 3: to go off the beaten path a little bit. And
- 3:24Speaker 3: I want to ask you something. This is something I
- 3:25Speaker 3: did on my show. And I think it, it garnered
- 3:29Speaker 3: a little bit of an intense discussion, but what is
- 3:33Speaker 3: life worth? Imagine you're sitting across from me, right? We're
- 3:40Speaker 3: at a coffee house and we ponder the, the question
- 3:46Speaker 3: that pierces everybody's soul, what is your life actually worth?
- 3:53Speaker 3: I mean, is it worth a certain amount of dollars, possessions,
- 3:56Speaker 3: and currency, and time, fleeting seconds, minutes, days? What's your
- 4:01Speaker 3: life worth? Let's form a provocative analogy. Let's say I
- 4:10Speaker 3: had a billion dollars to offer. Billion would it be?
- 4:15Speaker 3: And I said, I'd give it to you. but you'd
- 4:17Speaker 3: only have one day to live. Would you take that
- 4:20Speaker 3: billion dollars? Of course, the answer, likely the answer is
- 4:26Speaker 3: a resolute no. Nobody would trade their life one day
- 4:30Speaker 3: for a billion dollars. A single day, no matter how
- 4:34Speaker 3: amazing the wealth is, can't compete or compare to the
- 4:38Speaker 3: infinite potential possibilities of a life well lived. 24 hours,
- 4:43Speaker 3: it's too much to trade for a billion dollars. And
- 4:47Speaker 3: some of the great poets have said, you have all
- 4:50Speaker 3: the fears of mortals and all the desires of immortals.
- 4:53Speaker 3: So a billion dollars for a single day, it would
- 4:57Speaker 3: just be a cruel jest when the test is actually time.
- 5:03Speaker 3: That's the true measure of wealth. But one day, that's
- 5:08Speaker 3: not really fair. Right? One day. What if I were
- 5:13Speaker 3: to ask, The same question, but instead of a day,
- 5:16Speaker 3: I offered you 30 days to live. You got a
- 5:18Speaker 3: billion dollars for a 30-day trade. Would you take that?
- 5:21Speaker 3: 30 days, one month, 30 sunrises, laughter, moments, maybe some
- 5:27Speaker 3: quiet reflection, enough time to have some amazing meals, hang
- 5:32Speaker 3: out with the loved ones, walk through the forest or
- 5:34Speaker 3: on the beach, maybe lose yourself in a book. 30
- 5:38Speaker 3: days versus $ 1 billion. The answer, of course, is still no, right?
- 5:43Speaker 3: Still no. A month, though precious, is too brief. The
- 5:47Speaker 3: trade from your money, the weight of each moment grows
- 5:51Speaker 3: heavier when you know they're numbered. So it would be
- 5:55Speaker 3: torturous to trade a billion dollars for 30 days. Let's
- 6:00Speaker 3: say I bargain even further. What if I gave you
- 6:03Speaker 3: a billion dollars for a year? Do you start to
- 6:06Speaker 3: think about that now? A year holds seasons, holidays, personal growth,
- 6:11Speaker 3: enough time to try something new. Maybe mend a broken relationship.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Chase a dream for 365 days. But my guess is
- 6:23Speaker 3: you probably wouldn't be willing to trade your 365-day year
- 6:29Speaker 3: for a billion dollars. It's just not worth it. A
- 6:33Speaker 3: billion dollars might buy you those amazing external comforts, but
- 6:38Speaker 3: only time can grant you inner strength. Right? So a year...
- 6:44Speaker 3: feels like too steep a price. Hmm. What if I
- 6:49Speaker 3: gave you 10 years for $ 5 billion? Or what if
- 6:52Speaker 3: I gave you 10 years for a billion dollars? I mean,
- 6:57Speaker 3: I guess it would then depend upon how old are you?
- 6:59Speaker 3: I mean, if you're 60, 10 years for a billion dollars,
- 7:04Speaker 3: maybe that that begins to gnaw at you a little bit.
- 7:07Speaker 3: 10 years is substantial. Time to travel the world, build
- 7:11Speaker 3: something lasting. Love maybe somebody deeply. A billion dollars, you
- 7:15Speaker 3: can change lives, fund dreams. It's your money. You do
- 7:18Speaker 3: what you want with it. Leave a legacy. 10 years,
- 7:24Speaker 3: billion dollars. And still, those of you who are listening, still,
- 7:31Speaker 3: the answer is no, right? The answer is no. Every
- 7:36Speaker 3: tick of the clock brings you ever closer to the end.
- 7:38Speaker 3: 10 years, though rich and amazing with possibility, it's finite.
- 7:42Speaker 3: It's hard, man. It's a reminder that, I mean, this
- 7:48Speaker 3: is not just a resource. Time is the very fabric
- 7:51Speaker 3: of the existence. We're not rich by what we possess,
- 7:56Speaker 3: but what we cannot do without. A billion dollars pales
- 8:00Speaker 3: in comparison, weighed against the boundless potential of even a
- 8:04Speaker 3: single hour. So what amount of time would you trade
- 8:10Speaker 3: a billion dollars for? Realistic time. I mean, again, obviously,
- 8:14Speaker 3: if you're 60 years old and someone were to give
- 8:17Speaker 3: you a billion dollars for 50 years, you'd probably say yes,
- 8:20Speaker 3: because you're probably not going to make it to 110.
- 8:24Speaker 3: But the truth is, anything realistic, no amount of money
- 8:30Speaker 3: seems fair, right? Time is the most precious resource that
- 8:34Speaker 3: we have. Not because it's so scarce, but because it's singular.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Every second carries the weight of immense possibilities, joy, sorrow, growth, connections.
- 8:46Speaker 3: And we're just so unsure of what lies after this.
- 8:53Speaker 3: If it's nothing, then it's not, certainly not worth the trade.
- 8:59Speaker 3: And each moment is unique. Everything, every second, like you're
- 9:02Speaker 3: listening to me right now, it's unique. You've never heard
- 9:04Speaker 3: this before. It's unique to you. You didn't have this
- 9:08Speaker 3: 10 seconds ago, 30 seconds ago, 30 minutes ago. And
- 9:14Speaker 3: a billion dollars, it can buy you a mansion, fancy car.
- 9:19Speaker 3: But in the end, you probably wouldn't trade time for
- 9:22Speaker 3: any amount of money, right? A billion dollars can do
- 9:27Speaker 3: a lot of different things, but you wouldn't, you wouldn't
- 9:30Speaker 3: pay it for one more. You pay it for one extra.
- 9:33Speaker 3: If you had 10 billion, you pay an extra billion
- 9:35Speaker 3: for a day. It's the one thing you can't get back.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Every second of every day is priceless. So I just
- 9:44Speaker 3: thought that that would be, that's just something I, I,
- 9:48Speaker 3: I heard this analogy, somebody else did it and I
- 9:52Speaker 3: kind of stole it, but I thought it was fascinating
- 9:53Speaker 3: when you think about it. just shows you how much
- 9:56Speaker 3: just one day is worth right time can't be bought
- 9:59Speaker 3: or bargained it's the one currency that flows without pause
- 10:04Speaker 3: it's indifferent to our wealth our status the value of
- 10:08Speaker 3: life is measured in years or it's not measured in
- 10:10Speaker 3: years or dollars but in the moments that you're given
- 10:13Speaker 3: so Bottom line, the answer to my original question, a
- 10:18Speaker 3: billion dollars for a day, no, a month, no, a year, no,
- 10:21Speaker 3: 10 years, no.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Nope.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Every fleeting moment of my life, beautiful, agonizing, painful, wonderful,
- 10:29Speaker 3: every second of it, it's worth far more than that.
- 10:33Speaker 3: It's basically worth everything. And I hope you look at
- 10:36Speaker 3: yours the same exact way because it's the most precious
- 10:41Speaker 3: resource that we have. And I felt like sharing that
- 10:45Speaker 3: that story would give you a little different perspective on
- 10:49Speaker 3: some of the things that are bouncing around in my brain.
- 10:53Speaker 3: I like those kinds of conversations. They make you think.
- 10:59Speaker 3: So we'll get back to the politics of it all.
- 11:01Speaker 3: We'll take a short break. We'll come back. Like I said,
- 11:02Speaker 3: bottom of the hour, we'll talk to a columnist who's
- 11:06Speaker 3: written for the Wall Street Journal and some other major outlets.
- 11:09Speaker 3: And he'll join us. His name is Red Janky. We'll
- 11:11Speaker 3: talk about Trump and his economy, and all things around
- 11:16Speaker 3: that when we get back. And I'll do a little
- 11:18Speaker 3: crime when we come back. There's been some amazing progress
- 11:21Speaker 3: in Washington, and I'll read you some statistics about this
- 11:25Speaker 3: whole plan from Donald Trump when we return. Again, you're
- 11:28Speaker 3: listening to The War Zone, The Gateway Pundit, Untamed Nation, RootForAmerica.com.
- 11:33Speaker 3: We'll take a short break. We'll come right back. Hang on, everybody.

- 15:24Speaker 3: is here for you until then. So diabetes. Diabetes. Reversal
- 15:29Speaker 3: Group is the sponsor of this segment. You know, it's
- 15:32Speaker 3: the scourge of our time. Ravages your body.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Costs.
- 15:36Speaker 3: They'll bankrupt you. It's terrible. Destroy your quality of life.
- 15:40Speaker 3: And it's basically bankrupting our healthcare system. So type 2
- 15:44Speaker 3: diabetes can cause blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, amputation, Alzheimer's, dementia, ED,
- 15:53Speaker 3: and yeah, even cancer. So reversing your diabetes can help
- 15:56Speaker 3: prevent these complications. More than 37 million Americans have diabetes.
- 16:00Speaker 3: 98 million have pre-diabetes. So There is fantastic news. Diabetes

- 16:37Speaker 3: That's ReverseMyDiabetesFast.com. And give it a try, man. It seems
- 16:43Speaker 3: like that's a win-win-win for everybody involved.
- 16:47Speaker 2: All right.
- 16:47Speaker 3: We don't have a lot of time in this segment,
- 16:49Speaker 3: but I did see some numbers today that I thought
- 16:52Speaker 3: were pretty remarkable, and I want to share them with you. 1,369
- 16:55Speaker 3: arrests in D.C. since the feds began to patrol the streets.
- 17:01Speaker 3: 12 known gang members arrested. One juvenile was arrested for
- 17:08Speaker 3: intent to distribute fentanyl. Here's the one where everyone should
- 17:14Speaker 3: stand up and give Donald Trump an absolute 100% standing ovation.
- 17:21Speaker 1: All right.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Now you can. Say what you want about crime and
- 17:24Speaker 3: criminals and all the impact of that. But since Trump
- 17:29Speaker 3: has put boots on the ground, five missing children have
- 17:34Speaker 3: been rescued. Right? Five missing kids found. I mean, that
- 17:40Speaker 3: right there, right there alone, should bring everybody to the
- 17:45Speaker 3: table and willing to celebrate what's going on in Washington, D.C.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Five kids that were missing in this, who knows, probably
- 17:55Speaker 3: the sex trade industry, have been found. 140 firearms have
- 17:59Speaker 3: been seized. That should make all of the Democrat progressives excited.
- 18:04Speaker 3: And 50 homeless encampments have been cleared. That's since, well,
- 18:08Speaker 3: it's two weeks. Two weeks in Washington, D.C. Tell me
- 18:13Speaker 3: where this is the wrong approach. Tell me where this
- 18:18Speaker 3: is not the right way to go about things. Now,
- 18:22Speaker 3: you may not think there's a crime epidemic, but what
- 18:25Speaker 3: I just read you clearly tells me that there is.
- 18:28Speaker 3: And these people who I just read about, right, the
- 18:31Speaker 3: 12 known gang members, the juvenile, the five missing kids,
- 18:36Speaker 3: the 50 homeless encampments, 140 firearms, those people would still
- 18:41Speaker 3: be on the streets causing havoc, wreaking crime, wreaking all
- 18:44Speaker 3: kinds of chaos. Yet now they're off the streets. So
- 18:48Speaker 3: maybe people can go walk. to the corner restaurant and
- 18:54Speaker 3: get a hamburger, get a sandwich. Maybe they can go
- 18:56Speaker 3: hand-in-hand to the nearest little park area without the fear
- 19:01Speaker 3: of having somebody mug them from behind or having a
- 19:04Speaker 3: gang member come up and attack them or what have you.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Where's the loss?
- 19:09Speaker 1: 1,369 arrests.
- 19:09Speaker 3: 1,369 arrests in Washington, D.C. in the last two weeks. Guys,
- 19:18Speaker 3: The only reason why anybody is pushing back against this,
- 19:21Speaker 3: the only reason is for Trump derangement syndrome. There is
- 19:26Speaker 3: no other reason why you would not want to have
- 19:29Speaker 3: more law and order on the streets of your city.
- 19:33Speaker 3: It's just simple common sense. But what are we doing?
- 19:37Speaker 3: You got to give Trump his props. Even those of
- 19:39Speaker 3: you who do have the TDS, you got to give
- 19:42Speaker 3: him props on this. He's killing it, man. He's killing
- 19:46Speaker 3: it in that arena. And y'all should be celebrating.
- 19:50Speaker 6: It.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Just the kids alone. Finding the kids alone is enough
- 19:54Speaker 3: for us to throw a wild celebratory party. Although there are, again,
- 20:00Speaker 3: tens of thousands of other kids who are flying under
- 20:03Speaker 3: the radar that we need to find as well. All right,
- 20:05Speaker 3: the Gateway Pundit has us on. Untamed Nation has us on.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Root for America has us on. Getter X, also, if
- 20:12Speaker 3: you want to go there. Wayne's Rumble has us on
- 20:15Speaker 3: as well. All of those outlets, if you want to
- 20:17Speaker 3: watch and or listen, the great radio stations across the
- 20:20Speaker 3: country have us on as well. All right, my name
- 20:23Speaker 3: is Lee Elsey. Email me, leelseyradio at gmail.com if you

- 22:04Speaker 3: Well, here we go, ladies and gentlemen. We're two, one
- 22:07Speaker 3: and a half hours in. We've got 25 minutes to go.
- 22:10Speaker 3: My name is Lee Elsie filling in for Wayne Allen Root.
- 22:13Speaker 3: And if you guys want to watch what we've got
- 22:15Speaker 3: going on, all kinds of cool places to do that, thegatewaypundit.com, untamednation.com,
- 22:20Speaker 3: and rootforamerica.com. Plus, Root's Rumble, his X, his Getter, all
- 22:25Speaker 3: those places have us on as well. So, My next guest,
- 22:29Speaker 3: he has written columns at every level. He's written for
- 22:33Speaker 3: the Wall Street Journal, Real Clear Politics, just to name
- 22:36Speaker 3: a few. He has a fantastic website that has his
- 22:39Speaker 3: latest column up. It's the-red-line.com. That's the-red-line.com. And all the
- 22:48Speaker 3: things that Red writes are up there. So help me
- 22:50Speaker 3: welcome Red Janke to the program. Red, thanks for coming on.
- 22:53Speaker 3: I appreciate it very much. How are you doing tonight?
- 22:58Speaker 4: Hey, I'm doing well. It's a pleasure to be here, Lee.
- 23:01Speaker 4: Thank you for the invitation.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Well, listen, you wrote a column a few weeks back,
- 23:06Speaker 3: and we talked about it a little bit on the
- 23:07Speaker 3: morning show, but I got to give it to the
- 23:10Speaker 3: national audience because it's so spot on. And people can
- 23:13Speaker 3: go up and they can read it on your website, d-red-line.com.
- 23:16Speaker 3: But I'm just going to get out of your way
- 23:18Speaker 3: because you do a wonderful job explaining some of this stuff.
- 23:21Speaker 3: So tell everybody what drove you to write this column
- 23:25Speaker 3: and just give everybody that 30,000-foot view to get us going.
- 23:31Speaker 6: Well, we've gone through just a massive amount of commentary
- 23:36Speaker 6: about the one big, beautiful bill in the mainstream media,
- 23:41Speaker 6: mostly critical and non-supportive, focusing in on its long-term.
- 23:51Speaker 4: Negative impact on deficits and debt.
- 23:54Speaker 6: The Congressional Budget Office has scored it as costing less.
- 23:58Speaker 7: $ 3. 4 trillion over the next decade. There's been some commentary
- 24:07Speaker 7: over that period of time about, and separately, about the
- 24:12Speaker 7: president's tariff program.
- 24:15Speaker 4: And people have also, for the most part, been critical.
- 24:21Speaker 6: However, if you put those two programs together, you wind
- 24:24Speaker 6: up with something that really hasn't been discussed. The Congressional
- 24:30Speaker 6: Budget Office scored the tariff program and said it was
- 24:33Speaker 6: going to produce revenue, positive revenue, of $ 3 trillion. The
- 24:40Speaker 6: two programs offset. These two programs are one.
- 24:46Speaker 4: They are one program.
- 24:49Speaker 6: There's a strategy behind this that really has gone unrecognized
- 24:54Speaker 6: in my reading in the mainstream press. So he wrote
- 24:57Speaker 6: a column saying MAGA is a plan. It's not just
- 25:01Speaker 6: a slogan.
- 25:05Speaker 3: So you think this was a plan from the onset?
- 25:07Speaker 3: Do you think Trump foresaw that this tariff money would
- 25:10Speaker 3: then sort of balance out the money that he was spending?
- 25:16Speaker 4: Well, in a.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Way, yes.
- 25:20Speaker 6: It's a lead pipe cinch that tariffs are going to
- 25:22Speaker 6: raise tariff revenues. And as of June, the tariff revenues
- 25:28Speaker 6: started picking up dramatically. If you look at the June number,
- 25:32Speaker 6: it's about $ 27 billion. On an annual basis, that's about $ 3.
- 25:37Speaker 4: 2 trillion.
- 25:38Speaker 6: Excuse me, $ 320 billion. And over 10 years, that's $ 3. 2.
- 25:44Speaker 4: There you have the math in June.
- 25:53Speaker 6: The tariff revenue was already offsetting what the officials in
- 26:00Speaker 6: Washington said was going to be the cost of the
- 26:03Speaker 6: one big, beautiful bill over the decade. So there you
- 26:09Speaker 6: have it. It's one program, one and the same. It
- 26:12Speaker 6: doesn't matter. It's curious to me that the president has
- 26:16Speaker 6: not articulated these two programs as a part of a
- 26:22Speaker 6: single strategy.
- 26:24Speaker 4: But they just are. Whether he articulates it or not,
- 26:28Speaker 4: they work together. Love and marriage, horse and carriage.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:34Speaker 3: I mean, are these based, Red, on projections? What projections
- 26:39Speaker 3: are they based on? Because there's an assumption, too, that
- 26:42Speaker 3: comes along with tariffs that consumption will go down. So
- 26:46Speaker 3: if consumption goes down, does the profit from tariffs go
- 26:51Speaker 3: down as well? I would assume it would, but you
- 26:53Speaker 3: would know better.
- 26:57Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I think you're touching on why the strategy,
- 27:04Speaker 6: the overall strategy. Now, yes, I think just technically, I
- 27:08Speaker 6: don't know whether the Congressional Budget Office in its scoring
- 27:13Speaker 6: factored that in, that tariffs will restrain consumption.
- 27:20Speaker 4: But that's part of the plan, in my opinion.
- 27:24Speaker 6: Taken together, the one big beautiful bill reduces taxes on income,
- 27:31Speaker 6: on productivity. The tariffs raise taxes on consumption. So the
- 27:40Speaker 6: grand strategy is to move the nation from overconsumption into
- 27:46Speaker 6: a nation that is once again more productive. Taxes provide incentive.
- 27:53Speaker 6: And the more you tax something, the less of it
- 27:56Speaker 6: you get. So we'll get less consumption. That's good for
- 28:00Speaker 6: the nation. We should be instead producing.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Red Jackie is with us. And his column, his fascinating column,
- 28:08Speaker 3: is up on his website as we speak. And the website,
- 28:11Speaker 3: it's easy, the-red-line.com. And you can read about the offset.
- 28:18Speaker 3: of the big beautiful bill and some of the money
- 28:20Speaker 3: that we're spending and the debt supposedly that we're creating,
- 28:23Speaker 3: but offset by the possibility of tariffs. Is there any
- 28:26Speaker 3: chance before we get to something else, is there any
- 28:28Speaker 3: chance that the tariffs that he collects are even more,
- 28:33Speaker 3: maybe are they, are they estimating on a low side?
- 28:36Speaker 3: Can we see an explosion here? Do we make $ 6
- 28:39Speaker 3: trillion over 10 years, $ 8 trillion? Is that a possibility?
- 28:45Speaker 6: Uh, you're, I don't think anyone knows, uh, There's a
- 28:50Speaker 6: huge caveat here.
- 28:51Speaker 4: And let's just take today's news.
- 28:54Speaker 6: The Federal Appeals Court has just ruled that the tariffs
- 29:00Speaker 6: are out of bounds, that the president has overstepped his
- 29:04Speaker 6: authority under the law that he has cited as giving
- 29:08Speaker 6: him the authority. So this is all a program of
- 29:14Speaker 6: real uncertainty. But I think what needs our focus is
- 29:20Speaker 6: what he's trying to do. And I find what he's
- 29:23Speaker 6: trying to do, and whether it's one advisor or another
- 29:27Speaker 6: or the president himself thought this all up himself, this
- 29:32Speaker 6: is a grand strategy to change the entire direction of
- 29:37Speaker 6: the country. And if you look at most poll most
- 29:40Speaker 6: polls show that most people think we're on.
- 29:43Speaker 4: The wrong track.
- 29:45Speaker 6: Well, this is an effort, a very, very monumental effort
- 29:51Speaker 6: to shift the track of the whole nation. Less consumption,
- 29:56Speaker 6: more production. That's huge. And if the plan works out, production,
- 30:05Speaker 6: of course, creates more income. With more income at all levels, hopefully,
- 30:12Speaker 6: then you have less need for social programs. Everyone gets
- 30:20Speaker 6: wealthier and more productive, has more income. Now, that is
- 30:24Speaker 6: not to say there's not going to be a lot
- 30:26Speaker 6: of pain. I think the president said there's going to
- 30:28Speaker 6: be pain in this and prices are going to go up.
- 30:33Speaker 6: We can debate technically whether that is a function of
- 30:40Speaker 6: reignited inflation or it's a step change in price levels.
- 30:44Speaker 6: And there's a difference. But I'm not going to get
- 30:47Speaker 6: overly wonky with this. it's a grand strategy, and I
- 30:51Speaker 6: think we all should get behind the president in this effort.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Now, Red, you disagree with other economists as far as
- 30:58Speaker 3: the protectionism, and you feel like Trump's in the right,
- 31:02Speaker 3: other economists are in the wrong. Can you explain that
- 31:05Speaker 3: real quick?
- 31:09Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a little wonky, but we go back to
- 31:12Speaker 6: an economist of several centuries ago, David Ricardo, when he
- 31:18Speaker 6: compared England and Portugal in the production of cloth and wine.
- 31:26Speaker 6: So keep a distinction in your mind between absolute advantage
- 31:31Speaker 6: and comparative advantage. Portugal, he posited, had an absolute advantage
- 31:36Speaker 6: in both. A 10% advantage in cloth, a 50% advantage
- 31:43Speaker 6: in wine. Well, if you think about it, It makes
- 31:47Speaker 6: more sense for Portugal to produce just wine. They've got
- 31:52Speaker 6: a 50% advantage or profit margin. Why would they waste
- 31:57Speaker 6: any of their energy on cloth where they only have
- 32:00Speaker 6: a 10% advantage? If they don't produce cloth, then England
- 32:05Speaker 6: can produce cloth, even though it's got a slight disadvantage.
- 32:09Speaker 6: So what happens here is Portugal has a comparative advantage
- 32:14Speaker 6: in wine. and England has a comparative advantage in cloth.
- 32:21Speaker 6: All seems to work. However, it relies on two things,
- 32:24Speaker 6: two assumptions. One, there's no mobility of capital, and I'm
- 32:29Speaker 6: not going to explain that.
- 32:31Speaker 4: And two, that.
- 32:35Speaker 6: Each nation is going to operate rationally and follow that objective.
- 32:42Speaker 6: And it relies upon the idea that the two nations
- 32:45Speaker 6: have some general sense of parity.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Right.
- 32:51Speaker 6: So you have a difference of 10% and 50%. What
- 32:54Speaker 6: if Portugal has a 75% advantage in both?
- 32:59Speaker 4: It puts England out of business.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Out of business. Brad, listen, the music is playing. I
- 33:05Speaker 3: got to take a break. You want to stick around
- 33:06Speaker 3: one more segment with me?
- 33:10Speaker 4: Yeah, let's continue this. Again, I admit a little wonky.
- 33:14Speaker 3: That's okay. Wonky sometimes good. All right, we'll come right back.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Our good pal Red Janky is with us. You can
- 33:19Speaker 3: go to the-red-line.com to read what he's written. We'll come back,
- 33:24Speaker 3: talk a little bit more with him right here on
- 33:26Speaker 3: The War Zone. Stick around.

- 38:16Speaker 3: yourself what you need to get and make yourself some money.
- 38:18Speaker 3: All right, speaking of money, our good pal Red Janky
- 38:21Speaker 3: is joining us. His website is the-red-line.com. He's written a
- 38:26Speaker 3: brilliant column that I think you all should read. And unfortunately,
- 38:29Speaker 3: I had to cut him off in the middle because
- 38:31Speaker 3: of him giving you this sort of explanation of all that. So, Red,
- 38:36Speaker 3: if you want to reset that and give that, the
- 38:38Speaker 3: floor is yours, wherever you want to take us for
- 38:40Speaker 3: the end here.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Hey, Lee, thanks.
- 38:46Speaker 6: We were talking about free trade theory.
- 38:49Speaker 4: We went through the.
- 38:52Speaker 6: Conventional analysis that dates back to an economist several centuries ago,
- 38:56Speaker 6: David Ricardo, who made a distinction between absolute.
- 39:02Speaker 4: Advantage and comparative advantage.
- 39:04Speaker 6: And comparative advantage is the key in terms of the
- 39:08Speaker 6: supporters of free trade. But I posited that free trade
- 39:16Speaker 6: relies upon some degree of parity between the trading partners
- 39:21Speaker 6: that you're very roughly equals in most respects. So if
- 39:27Speaker 6: the US trades with Europe, we're on parity. And we
- 39:32Speaker 6: should trade in terms of comparative advantage. Europe may do
- 39:36Speaker 6: something more efficiently and productively than we do, and vice versa.
- 39:42Speaker 6: And thus, you have an advantage from free trade. But
- 39:48Speaker 6: enter China. And China has a 75% advantage in manufacturing,
- 39:58Speaker 6: and they crush our manufacturing sector. And we had reviewed
- 40:04Speaker 6: the fact that free trade in its origins had relied
- 40:08Speaker 6: upon the idea that capital is not mobile. Okay?
- 40:14Speaker 4: Well, what happened after.
- 40:16Speaker 6: China, and even before China joined the World Trade Organization,
- 40:21Speaker 6: its capital flooded into China to take advantage and leverage
- 40:27Speaker 6: its low-cost labor. And so we wound up with a
- 40:33Speaker 6: Chinese manufacturing juggernaut, and it decimated the US manufacturing sector,
- 40:42Speaker 6: illustrating that if capital is mobile, The real determinant of
- 40:47Speaker 6: free trade is labor cost. So we need to erect
- 40:54Speaker 6: some trade barriers, some protective barriers. Otherwise, all of our
- 41:00Speaker 6: manufacturing and production will go overseas to lower cost labor locations.
- 41:07Speaker 6: And here's a kind of, you know, paradox. The most
- 41:13Speaker 6: advanced nations Let's recognize the United States. We're going to
- 41:19Speaker 6: share the fruits of that advanced position across our entire society, right?
- 41:26Speaker 6: So that is going to be shared mostly through higher
- 41:31Speaker 6: labor rates. So what you take away from your advanced position,
- 41:40Speaker 6: it undermines the basis of your advanced position. As your
- 41:46Speaker 6: labor rates go up, your productive capacity goes overseas. So
- 41:54Speaker 6: we need to have a level of protectionism so that
- 41:57Speaker 6: does not happen. That's what the tariffs are all about.
- 42:01Speaker 6: They're to raise the barrier to entry so that we
- 42:10Speaker 6: can rebuild some degree of manufacturing and productive capacity in
- 42:16Speaker 6: this country.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Red, listen, good stuff, buddy. And perfect timing because we're
- 42:21Speaker 3: out of time. But I really appreciate you coming on
- 42:24Speaker 3: here on this Friday night and sharing some of your
- 42:27Speaker 3: thoughts with our great listeners from one coast to another.
- 42:29Speaker 3: And I just want to remind everybody, like I said,
