- 0:01Maggie's crying. She's not crying. She's celebrating her independence. Don't crash that
- 0:07party. One hug can't hurt, Yes it can. Hugs are drugs,
- 0:12and your daughter's an addict. I guess it's time to let my little girl
- 0:17grow up. Four finger discount, dude, Welcome to four figure discount where
- 0:40this week we hit the review episode three of season nineteen. It is not
- 0:43Midnight Towboy. It is midnight towboy. I'm Dano and I am guy,
- 0:47And yes, I'm looking across at a very uh oh, no watery gentleman,
- 0:52a very misty eyed fellow, because this is the episode that may well.
- 0:55This is an episode that made Dando gray. He cries at the drop
- 0:57of the hat these days. Umm, I, on a hand, had
- 1:00no soul. I felt nothing at all. You didn't like this one.
- 1:03I liked it fine. There were bits that that I enjoyed. Certainly,
- 1:07there were a few little green lines on my notes here, because there were
- 1:11bits that I enjoyed. But did it strike me as deeply and for family
- 1:15as it did you? I'm not sure. But then again, I'm a
- 1:19solo artist, man, I'm rolling alone through as well. You could have
- 1:23little baby guys out there somewhere, but I think it is more than likely.
- 1:26I think it's an episode that you need to really be a parent and
- 1:29live through the moment of them finding the independence to truly appreciate that bee pop
- 1:33because I think the b PLoP with Marge and Maggie was better than the a
- 1:34plot in this episode. I just thought, and I'm watching this going this
- 1:40just has a woman's touch, with a mother's touch to it, I should
- 1:42say, And it was. It was Stephanie Gillis al Jeane's wife who wrote
- 1:44this episode. Al Jane's wife here saying yes, al Jane's wife. She
- 1:47did such a great job with this episode. I just thought there were so
- 1:49many elements to it and the ending. We always say here on this show,
- 1:53when you hit the landing, it leaves you happy. You sort of
- 1:56think the episodes is better than what it did. Sometimes you can have a
- 1:57good episode has a really crappy ending and the endything wasn't as good as I
- 2:01thought it was. This one here for me stuck the landing and I thought
- 2:04it was just so sweet. It wasn't on the do it for her levels.
- 2:08But I'll tell you what I was getting there. I thought, when
- 2:10when when she says that but drugs are drugs, hugs a drug and she
- 2:15says, shouldn't say it, but she goes to pacified slash dummy in her
- 2:19mouth and gives her that big squeeze. I thought that was beautiful. I
- 2:22thought it was one of my favorite endings in a long time. I'm glad
- 2:25you felt that way. I'm very happy that you're you know that you conjuct
- 2:29emotions for you. I'm feeling good for you in that regard because we brought
- 2:31in the counselor for the trying to get them to go to sleep and things
- 2:35like that, my kids, Holly and Alliott, and I was how Marge
- 2:38approached this. That was very much me. It was almost like I was
- 2:42watching myself. I never I didn't near in the groin obviously, but they
- 2:46they came in and it was just the I know what's best for your kid,
- 2:50and I've gotten my notes. There's one of my fa I'll spoil one
- 2:53of my favorite moments here because the line of all the cancelors are available day
- 2:55and night because they don't have families of their own, and none of these
- 2:59people had their own kids. But yet they're experts on how to raise children,
- 3:01yet they're never raised children. Not all of them obviously, but the
- 3:05ones that we hired, and they her mentality was let them cry it out,
- 3:09And I'm like, you know what, I'm not going to do.
- 3:12Let my child just cry it out. I know it worked to an extent
- 3:15in this episode. Sometimes it does work for people, but it's hard and
- 3:19sitting there listening to your child cry. I know you have to be a
- 3:22little bit tough, but you've got to find that balance between them finding their
- 3:24independence and still nurturing them because you can't just be crawns let them cry out.
- 3:28Some parents choose to do that, and it probably works for them.
- 3:30I couldn't do it. So I've really related to margin this episode as a
- 3:34result. Okay, the one I can say why you appreciated this episode more
- 3:37because well, yeah, look, all these experiences that you're talking about are
- 3:39you know, one hundred percent foreign to me. Anytime my baby starts crying,
- 3:43I'm out of there. But but also Marge having to come to terms
- 3:46with the child being independent. Now, so I wake up and Elliott will
- 3:49make you his own breakfast and put the TV on and things and I think
- 3:52you don't really need me, and then I go, wait a minute.
- 3:53Your bag's not packed. You know, you haven't flushed the toilet properly,
- 3:57you haven't done this, you haven't made your bed, you haven't. Ah,
- 4:00you still need me because you're still it's still an animal. My work
- 4:02here is not done. No, exactly. So they you need to let
- 4:06them think they're being not let them think, but let them be themselves and
- 4:10let them be a little bit independent, but also make them aware you aren't
- 4:14quite ready to take on the world yet. Yeah. Look, I imagine,
- 4:18yes, that there is a it's a fairly difficult time for parents because
- 4:23you understand that well, no, you brought them into this world. You're
- 4:27responsible for just about everything that your babies. Yeah, they need so much
- 4:30from you, and to have that reduced ever so slightly pretty much every single
- 4:35day. Yeah, there's going to be a feeling about that. I imagine
- 4:39that's going to be ongoing, probably for the rest of your life. Yeah.
- 4:42Yeah, your kids will always be your kids. That's why I thought
- 4:45this the ending here of Maggie's still saying, I am you know, I'm
- 4:47still have to look after myself in other ways now, but I'll always need
- 4:50to hope for my mum. And that's just thought was just the perfect way
- 4:54to end this story. I thought it was just so sweet. Okay,
- 4:57then, like I said, I'm very glad that you got that out of
- 5:00that. I was personally looking at this going I'm not really buying Maggie breaking
- 5:03out of the house and riding sands little help like a horse to track down
- 5:06Homer. Oh, she's done this since the start of the show, though
- 5:10she's always been you know, when Homer alone, I think it's season three,
- 5:13season four, I see them three. I think when Marge goes surround
- 5:15Chevlaxo and Maggie goes looking for her Right, granted, she's just a baby
- 5:19going for a wander looking for her mum, but she's still getting out of
- 5:23the house and going to do things. I liked the montage of her Sands
- 5:26walt to help. I guess the circumstances surround the episode. Surrounding specific incidents
- 5:32within an episode will have something to do with how you take those moments and
- 5:40how you not how you feel about them. I was like, Okay,
- 5:44this is happening. I guess when just being an oblivious dumb jerk to this.
- 5:49I think I'd rather take this for you the lesser of two evils,
- 5:53then let's call it that. Yeah, I just but I really really liked
- 5:58this episode. I liked the a plot as well. Well. What I
- 6:00will say though, is that, well, what I liked about it was
- 6:01the fact that I can buy Homer as a toe driver. He was good
- 6:04at his job. And the thing I didn't like was that we didn't really
- 6:09get a resolution to the story because because Maggie breaks them out, Louis knows
- 6:14where he lives. Louis doesn't come and try and resolve. Hey, come
- 6:16back, I still know you still owe me money or whatever for going on
- 6:19my territory. But also Springfield broke into chaos and there's no resolution to that.
- 6:24The last thing we see is the train go through the city and the
- 6:27blimp and it's a pirate ship. But then that's it. Like that,
- 6:30we don't have Springfield go wait, we do need order. It was just
- 6:32they break out into chaos and that's that's the last we see of it.
- 6:35Why wasn't Springfield chaotic before Homer started doing his toe job. That's true.
- 6:41Yeah, they allude to Chief Wigham Ah gave that fatman. Sorry, I'm
- 6:46mixing up my voices. Basically got to be Quimby say about Wigham, just
- 6:49if I wanted everything to be ordered and structured, I wouldn't have hired this
- 6:53guy to be the police chief, right, he said, Hey, look,
- 6:56Ralph, the man knows that his name or whatever it is. Yeah.
- 7:00Right. I didn't actually think of the element either. It's just they
- 7:01break into chaos all of a sudden because Homer wasn't giving them tickets, but
- 7:04so that they broke out because it's because maybe you playing Devil's advocate ding Ninding
- 7:10as you say, Homer showed them what it is like to actually have some
- 7:14sort of structure and not illegally park. And then once they saw someone else
- 7:18doing it again, they went, hey, wait a minute, because it
- 7:20was more of a spiteful wasn't it. It was very Oh, if you're
- 7:24doing it, I'm going to do it, and then everyone that's going to
- 7:26chain reaction. Yeah, but still I thought we needed a resolution to it.
- 7:30Oh yeah, absolutely, I mean I think it's something that it's the
- 7:31main story of the episode. Yeah, that The Simpsons has maybe dropped the
- 7:35ball on in recent episodes, maybe even recent seasons. It's like, we
- 7:40don't so much end as we stop. I really liked Matt Dylan as Louis,
- 7:44though loved Matt Dylan is Louis. When I first heard that voice,
- 7:47I'm like, that's familiar, Mat Dylan. H this is how you use
- 7:51a guest star, you know, as we've said, you don't have Hey,
- 7:55look it's Matt Dylan. It's just him playing a role. And you
- 7:58get to the in credit and go, oh shit, that was Matt Dylon.
- 8:00That's the best guest start of me. Yeah, of course by this
- 8:03stage, because what year are we talking in there? What two thousand and
- 8:05seven? This would have been two thousand and seven. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:09I mean Matt Dylan's one of those guys who's been around since what the early
- 8:13eighties or whatever, been in some big movies. Is a name that people
- 8:16automatically recognize. For the most part. I wouldn't say he's never never been
- 8:20like a megastar on the the level of say Tom Cruise or like some of
- 8:26his contemporaries, like even like Rob Lowe or someone like that, but he's
- 8:28someone who's always been around. It is always very very dependable, will occasionally
- 8:33break out and make you realize I woned about that guy. Yeah, he's
- 8:35really good and he's been good in everything. The first time I saw him
- 8:39as a kid. You remember how many a nineties kid was there's something about
- 8:41mary. Yes, exactly right. So every once, every once in a
- 8:45while, every few years or so, he'll being in something a high profile
- 8:48and like, oh yeah, this guy, yeah, yeah, always delivers.
- 8:52But I was thinking about this when you know, watching him in this
- 8:54episode, it's like, I don't really know anything about Matt Dillon his life.
- 8:58I don't know he's married and he has kids. That's true. He
- 9:01just seems like he's someone's friend. Yeah, but he's a guy who worked
- 9:05constantly always, you know, gives you the good story. Would you like
- 9:07to know would you like to know him? I would like to, or
- 9:11maybe I wouldn't. Maybe the well, I'm going to look it up.
- 9:15You look it up. How do you think he is. I think he's
- 9:18going to be somewhere like sixty two now he's sixty. Yes, he has
- 9:22brothers and sisters. Well, we all know about Kevin d Okay, Johnny
- 9:24Drama. Oh so I didn't realize he was dating Diaz during the ear of
- 9:28the Something about Mary was he his partners with Kaptain Diaz for three years ninety
- 9:31five to ninety eight. The dude keeps it life profile. I like that,
- 9:35and it says here Roberta Mastro Michelle. I don't know her forty seven
- 9:41years. She sounds like a resident of Guido Town or what. Yeah,
- 9:46I'm not too sure she's really She's an actress known for nine. She was
- 9:50in nine The Tourist as well. Anyway, he was dating her until this
- 9:52year, so maybe they've just split up, or maybe he's still dating her.
- 9:54I'm not too sure, but that he's been dating her since it says
- 9:58here twenty fourteenth, the last ten years, so I don't think he has
- 10:03kids. The upshot of this is, oh, he was wild things,
- 10:07of course, and he was wild things. He doesn't need to get married.
- 10:11He had the threesome witham that's going to keep him busy for the rest
- 10:15of his life. That he was dating Karon Diaz, Molly mat you scamp,
- 10:24but in two thousand and seven. I don't think it's necessarily going to
- 10:26draw in the punters. If they say this week on The Simpsons, it's
- 10:28bad down, they'll be like, okay, and He's definitely the kind of
- 10:33guy that you can tell people who work on the show with love. Oh
- 10:35yeah, we're getting let's get Ma Dylan in. That'd be cool. Let's
- 10:37get a role for him. And I thought he just played Lully so well,
- 10:39he really did. I really liked this new town of the Springfield universe
- 10:46that's obviously close enough to be well, it's on the border obviously Shelbyville.
- 10:50It felt like it'd been there forever. I really liked the parody of them
- 10:54all being you know, you just your typical yo yo. Yeah, yeah,
- 10:58what was it? It's called it Guido. I mean it's Gweedo on
- 11:01the name Gweydopolis, Guidopolis. Yeah. So, Also, Louis apparently is
- 11:07dressed similar to Steve Randall played by Tom Cruise from the movie The Outsiders,
- 11:11which also started at Dylan. It was Dallas in that. Oh God,
- 11:15for joy, my favorite. Did you have any favorite moments in the episode?
- 11:20I've written down here Props to Matt Dylan. I mean, I'd just
- 11:22like the way he delivered lines like that murder murder, murder, suicide.
- 11:26Well that was fantastic. It also where he was talking about the various nicknames
- 11:31that he had the cars and Homo side. Those were pretty funny. I
- 11:35went to the mudflaps. That's still two sexy for my wife. You do
- 11:39one silhouette and odds forever. I just like the initial note sexy young thing,
- 11:45average body, Homer body, just as you got a bit of a
- 11:50teary moment, a sentimental moment out of the ending. Yeah, I did
- 11:56like when Lee, when Maggie rescued Homer home was to pee you back and
- 12:01returning your news. Yes again, Homer was a good father. And this
- 12:05you think, how can you go from Homer being that joke with mister Burns
- 12:07and the plane two episodes ago to this where he goes, oh wait a
- 12:11bit, that's Lisa's nose. I was like, see you still know how
- 12:13to write in to be a good father? What are you doing? You
- 12:16know that's such a good line. You're hitting the target every once in a
- 12:20while. It just annoys me that you think you obviously still know how to
- 12:24write it, So why do you take the easy way out? And remember
- 12:26when it was on the plane, he's he's a joke to Flannders here studios,
- 12:31it's Homer, you idiots, And I think, what well, I'm
- 12:35sad to say we got a bit of that in this episode. I mean
- 12:37I wrote this down twice. Stop spelling out jokes. Yeah it happens more
- 12:43than once in this episode. Yeah, I'm getting that just by looking at
- 12:46the screen. It works for everybody. You don't have to, you know,
- 12:48nudge me in the ribs and go do you get it? I did
- 12:52like Moe's line of because you know how we don't like side J malt tout
- 12:54side J malt oh fitter tickets. Huh yeah, we now you get nothing.
- 12:58I was like, thank you, Moe speaking for all of us.
- 13:03Anything else you enjoyed, or I's got the counselor the councilors avaiable day and
- 13:07night because I have no families. And just the ending, I thought,
- 13:11I thought this was one of the better endings we've had in a long time.
- 13:13I really really liked the ending of this of making in march. Next
- 13:16question, you there eating the beast? All right, it is trivia time,
- 13:20mister Davis. My first question for you, what are the three shades
- 13:24of white that my mode reads out? I see you're reading off a list,
- 13:28so I will always check my notes, unlike you. Eggshell Malibar Ivory
- 13:33and Mediterranean ekrew as. That was also one of mad questions. Let me
- 13:37ask you one though. At the toga party being held at the Simpsons House,
- 13:41who else was there? There was not a Simpsons, Vember and Millhouse.
- 13:45Ralph. I watched it going How old are they? Sort of like
- 13:48part of the gang? Now Ralph and Milhouse is randomly there? What's going
- 13:52on? Anyway? It doesn't matter. My next question is where is mister
- 13:56T going to be playing in the Lion King? Oh? See where?
- 14:00I just saw the rest of the I just saw that mister T was the
- 14:03line king. This is at the Capitol City Playhouse. Okay, hey,
- 14:05how long has Ogdenbill been been without milk? Oh? Was it seventy three?
- 14:09It was since nineteen seventy three? What was the radio dial that Louis
- 14:13had on before he turns it off? Because how do you expect you to
- 14:16know? This? Was it close up and he turned it off? I
- 14:16looked away at that. It was eighty seven point nine. Okay, then
- 14:18great, while we're doing that thing, then you probably already get this.
- 14:22But what was the vanity plate? D ui guy? No? Different one?
- 14:26That was Lenny's. That Lenny's one. I wasn't going to add that,
- 14:30but the other one for Louis. Was it? Well, when Homer
- 14:33went to pick up the car that was in actually in Guidopolis, but he
- 14:35thought it was in Springfield and tickets it had started with I didn't it.
- 14:41It was iHeart something, so I says I love something. It wasn't.
- 14:43Now what was it? Z v LX. I don't know what that means.
- 14:48Z v LX flex I heart flex, I don't know. I don't
- 14:54know either, but that's what it was. Since is Mailbager gmail dot com,
- 14:56please write in let us know we are silly. It's probably right there
- 15:01in front of our eyes, like what what is it? We don't know
- 15:03we're talking about? All right, mister Davis, this is now time to

- 16:41Indeed, all right, so let's get into a review of Midnight Towboy,
- 16:44shall we? Right, let's do it. The original air date of Midnight
- 16:47Towboy was October seventh, two thousand and seven. Production code jab F two
- 16:51one, written by as we said, Stephanie Gillis, the wife of Al
- 16:55Jean, and directed by Matthew Nastak. I feel like he's directing a lot
- 16:57of episodes lately of Matthew. Yeah, I didn't we should start calling al
- 17:00Jeane the husband of Stemini Gillis. We should have right in this episode of
- 17:04course, Matt Dylan, of course, as louis the couch gag the family
- 17:07is. I thought it was one of the better couch gags. Very creative.
- 17:10They're building them out of Lego home originally has hair, takes off the
- 17:12hair and puts there. I thought it was good, not too bad.
- 17:15Yeah, there's a Lego episode of the Simpsons, but cgi'd Lego. It's
- 17:18all stop motion, so Lego movie, Lego movie, Lego. I remember
- 17:22it being all right, Yeah, it's just something different. Yeah. So
- 17:26the episode kicks off with what was a kick off with this the Davis as
- 17:30I get up trying to put to make in the bed. Yes, that's
- 17:32right, Marge trying to put make it to bed, and she just will
- 17:33not have it, and I resually go here straight away relatable. Every night
- 17:40you planned the kids, you have to as a parent. You'll learn.
- 17:41You gotta give them half an hour warning. I won't learn. I'm not
- 17:45doing this. You got to go all right, So we're putting a bed
- 17:48at seven thirty, ten to seven, Hey, kids, all right,
- 17:49just let you know you can finish watching this, finish doing that. We
- 17:52gotta bush our teeth, get ready for bed. We're gonna go to bed
- 17:55in half an hour. Give them ten minute warning again, ten minutes later,
- 17:57remind him again, ten minutes later, remind we get it right,
- 18:00don't forget ten minutes going to bed, get to bedtime? What what do
- 18:03you mean in bedtime? You've been getting warnings forever, kid like, and
- 18:06then it's just and now they've worked it out my kids, So, Holynally,
- 18:10if you ever watch this, I'm onto you. They get to bed,
- 18:12they get to bed, and then they go I've got a ship.
- 18:15That's exact words, that's actually but it's like I've got to do a poo.
- 18:18I'm all right, then I'm gonna do a poo too. I'm like,
- 18:22I asked you, if you want to go to the toilet, guess
- 18:23what you're gonna sleep in it? I asked them, every night before you
- 18:27get a bed, to go toilet. No, no, no, no
- 18:29no. Literally, the second we walk out of that room, we sit
- 18:32it in the chair in the land room. Its nesting into our couch whatever
- 18:34we're going to watch them SVU or whatever we're gonna nest in will fortune,
- 18:37whatever it is we're gonna watch. It's very extreme example wheel of SVU.
- 18:44And then we hear this pit a pat on the hallway floor, like,
- 18:45what are you doing? I just got a pooh? I literally asked your
- 18:48kid, I asked your kid. That's their thing. Now, or it's
- 18:52I heard something at the door. I thought I heard someone knock at the
- 18:53door. I'm like, no, you didn't. You're getting played. They
- 18:56are gaming the system because they think they they think they're falling it. That's
- 19:00the best part. And you think I don't have anything? Yeah, how
- 19:04can I quash this youthful engine in imagination? But Maggie, she won't go
- 19:07to bed here. She's got just in Timberwolf with her. Holly has an
- 19:11entire bed of stuff animals, and she gets to bed every night and goes,
- 19:14I'm gonna take this one and this one and this one. Then she
- 19:17wakes up middle the night and goes where I'm like, it's on the pile
- 19:21of toys, and then your bed. Get up and get a kid.
- 19:22But yes, Maggie won't go down home. And the kids that are up
- 19:26partying. You're taking parenting dips from Mo. Grab that one kid, Yeah,
- 19:33Homer and the kids are partying. This is what happens. So kids
- 19:34go to bed, But why are you guys? Allie's new thing is why
- 19:37do your mummy get to stay up? Because we're grown ups. That means
- 19:41we get to stay up, grown up, stay up. He's like,
- 19:42oh, okay, makes sense checks out. You've got to have the argument.
- 19:47Yes, I'm a big fan of your your half hour ten minutes.
- 19:51You have to warn them, Oh absolutely yeah. I mean, of course,
- 19:53have no kids, but my hypothetic kids. I mean, you know
- 19:56you read parenting advice. I'm like, I like the idea, the well
- 20:00you've given a half hour warning with ten minute brackets. I was always like,
- 20:03yeah, I got to give them the five to ten minute warnings,
- 20:06like right, we're at the door in ten minutes. If you're not,
- 20:08yeah, yeah, you get left. Yeah. You can't just say right,
- 20:11you're going to bed, because then it's just fiasco. It's just World
- 20:15War three, whatever you want to call it. It's just chaos. It's
- 20:18fucking it's pirate ships and fucking blimps and it it's World War Z. But
- 20:22in this case, the Z doesn't say for zombies. It's yeah, yeah,
- 20:26okay, it's pretty happy with that. That's pretty good nothing. So
- 20:32they questioning why why, or Maggie says why do you get a bit?
- 20:34She doesn't say, but she's she's saying that through her eyes. And the
- 20:37kids are up partying with Homer and Ralph and millhouse very much like animal house.
- 20:42Then she says, I want to bottle's another thing like the kids like,
- 20:45I'm first and you too. Good water, So Maggie she goes get
- 20:47a bottle of water, bottle of milk. Sorry, She jumps from hom
- 20:49onto March. March therefore to drop the bottle and Home cries over spill builder,
- 20:53which I thought was quite funny. Well, yes, but this is
- 20:56where I said the first time. Stop spelling out jokes. It's spilt milk.
- 21:00Just have him cried. You don't necessarily have him have him say spilled
- 21:04milk. I mean, just allow us to add two and two and come
- 21:08up with you. Remember there are kids watching the show too, and that's
- 21:12that's where you kids, You're throwing the adults of bone by letting them say
- 21:18he's crying over spilled milk, and you necessarily watching the kids will look around
- 21:22it and going, wow, the kids, how do I get to stay
- 21:26up late? I know what you're saying. I think you just need to
- 21:27tone it down a little bit with your critiquing. I mean, you're more
- 21:30than more than able to go for it and crucify it. I'm here,
- 21:34I'm here to critique you can crucify this. But I didn't think it was
- 21:37too bad considering what I have not yet begun to crucify. Okay, considering
- 21:42the ship that we've had lately, I thought this was not But the teens
- 21:45have all bought their milk because apparently in this era, that's when everyone was
- 21:49doing the diet coke and the mentos thing with the people have been doing that
- 21:52forever though, But the urban legend about pop rocks and coke. But this
- 21:57it became like a viral insidet at that time, wasn't it remember doing it?
- 22:02Every generation learns, Yeah, to be a dumber. Yeah, it's
- 22:06funny. Now. I found myself getting older because I realized I'm getting older
- 22:11because I will say, oh, that's just a sample from a song from
- 22:14years ago. When I hear a new song that's a original, and I
- 22:17look back and go a lot of the songs that I liked when I was
- 22:18a kid, also samples from songs twenty it's been happening forever. It's a
- 22:22it's a tough thing. It's a tough beat when that happens, because part
- 22:26of you is like you want to tell the kids listen to the original.
- 22:30It's the best and it's like, no, it's cicklical, and I hated
- 22:34it when adults was saying me, you should be listening there really good stuff.
- 22:38Well yeah, bing Crosby is good, thanks dad. I just don't
- 22:42like it when they cover a song and it's just the same song with just
- 22:45like a techno beat, because they've just covered stumbling in Oh yeah, terrible.
- 22:51It's just the same fucking song. It's the same song with Yeah,
- 22:55it's the same thing you've done. You've done nothing creative here, you've done
- 22:59nothing. We get. Just play the vision because the visional is a fucking
- 23:03banger. Just play the hits. Just play the hits, great classic hits.
- 23:07I love time in great song, fine song, fine song, great
- 23:10song. We'll agree to disagree. I've actually interviewed Susy Quatra before Lovely Lady,
- 23:18have you? Yes, I had her in the studio. Pulsive am
- 23:19here in Geelong like a London that's easy. Quatrocab on. But he goes
- 23:26to Pinky Tascadera, goes to the quickie mark to get some milk, but
- 23:30it's all been purchased by the teenage as we said, because they're combining milk
- 23:33mentos and a lot of scrapings to make shitty jet packs. Yeah, it
- 23:37works, but not quiet. Yeah, should you're a parent, as you've
- 23:42spent the last half hour reminding me, would babies just drink regular milk or
- 23:48do you have to get them like formula? Oh? It depends on the
- 23:52age of Maggie. What is Makey's age? So you wouldn't give him regular
- 23:53milk until their stomach can handle it. So it's either breast milk or formula
- 24:00until a certain age. I'm not sure what the age is, maybe like
- 24:02eighteen months of his Yes, Yeah, it just seems like they're using regular
- 24:06ass cow milk because my margs wouldn't be britt I think. Yeah, it
- 24:10does feel that way, doesn't it. Yeah, because they're just gone to
- 24:12the quick amount to buy it. It's not formula. Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:15Whenever people are talking about, oh, you've got to give the baby a
- 24:17button, I'm like, I'm pretty sure you're not giving them. Oh make
- 24:19devon now in front of the pod. How old is maybe? I think
- 24:22she's like two. Maybe at this point I'm not too sure she might be
- 24:25old enough for regular milk. Well, she's walking, but you know,
- 24:27she's Simpsons Walking. Yeah, I think I can buy at this age.
- 24:32Probably milk will be fine. Okay, yeah, all right, we'll clear
- 24:34that up. Yes, anyway, I'm now given this episode an extra stuff.
- 24:38He goes to Moe's to get some milk. He's only got paint though,
- 24:41Homa drinks it and because it's white, it's gonna cost him. Then
- 24:45Lisa suggests go on a website to try and solve this cleaning. Baby,
- 24:48I like this is why because it very much felt like my mum when she
- 24:52goes near a phone or a computer screen with that one. Mom, not
- 24:55go af keep going, but the blue ones are that's the jewel bar.
- 24:57You've opened, work closing, don't say this, stop cooking, don't go
- 25:02there. Why are you buying a freezer? Don't click the corner you bought
- 25:04it, you click the card. If you're so smart, you do it.
- 25:12Hmmm cry. What does that stand for? Creative responses for infant egg?
- 25:19You loving oohed you love it. They come to your home to help
- 25:23you raise independent, self actualized children. The counselors can come day and night
- 25:29because they have no families themselves. Okay, you'll sign up. You just
- 25:33bought another freezer. Well maybe I wanted another freezer. Could you relate in
- 25:37this exp what's Margaret Mary log with a phone or a computer? Well,
- 25:41not with the phone. And she's she's big on the iPad because it allows
- 25:45her to watch various streaming services and take photographs. Is she very much?
- 25:51She's got a pattern of how she opens up absent. If something else pops
- 25:52up, it's game over kind of, I'll find out, I'll find it
- 25:56with my name before she passed god w rest of So she think she knew,
- 26:00turn on the TV, do this, do this, do this.
- 26:03But if like accidentally she pushed like the HDMI button whatever, it went to
- 26:06a different, different source, it was done. Finish. That's pretty good
- 26:10with the iPad. But she has limited options on that. I mean there
- 26:15have been occasions where I've had to go over and say, Okay, now
- 26:18you've got this, I'm gonna log you down. Then i'm gonna log you
- 26:19back. Oh you're a genius, and yeah, I am all right.
- 26:22You just have all the Sky News podcasts all line up for it. And
- 26:25that's very got a need. I need to get her on ticket Masters so
- 26:29she could go see Tucker Carlson. I can't believe that's out. The other
- 26:33night, Tucker Carlson and Clive Palmer in conversations like, well, you might
- 26:37as well just shoot me now. But I get I. Yes, it
- 26:44is very very relatable, even to well, even someone of your age.
- 26:48I mean you're probably looking at the internet pop ups. Yes, you know
- 26:52what I hate the most with pop ups? It's the ones where you go
- 26:55into a website and they don't load for about three seconds, and you're about
- 26:57to click on something, and then they bumped him down because the banner pops
- 27:02up and then he cook the banner and you're like, you motherfucker. I
- 27:06didn't want this. No, I specifically requested the opposite. I trusted you
- 27:11Internet. I trusted I didn't my margins. I don't want to bother my
- 27:15Internet with my problems. Yeah, but but fixes it quickly. And then
- 27:18they say here, the counselors can come day or not, because they don't
- 27:21have any families for themselves. I'm like, that's exactly how I felt as
- 27:23well. Then Homo goes for a drive looking for some milk. He eventually
- 27:26arrives in Greedopolis. Yeah, and look at the mookie mart. What's the
- 27:32lady's name Angelica, get over here doesn't mean nothing. Yes, but I
- 27:36got some milk field right here. But I didn't like this that we so
- 27:40you were saying, break out, That explained the joke. This was very
- 27:41much explained the joke. Oholy, you were going to point to your crutch.
- 27:45You didn't need to say that. You did not know it ruined the
- 27:48joke. I thought by doing that, and just it was funny in itself.
- 27:51It's like, ah, yeah, we all thought that too, that
- 27:53was the joke. He didn't have to explain that to me. But Homer
- 27:56then gets told because he's parked outside the bank, and then he ends up
- 28:00giving home a ride to the impound and yeah, so basically he realizes here
- 28:03that he is the boss. Louis his own boss. He can work whenever
- 28:06he wants. Is sometimes you want to go to work. And I like
- 28:08the I don't know it's sexist thing over eyeball in the highway. Honeys.
- 28:15I love the word. I use the word honey's all the time. I'm
- 28:17like, what a honey? I do think it's a nice way. In
- 28:19my opinion, it's a polite way saying. It's a respectful way to objectify
- 28:26you know what I mean, it's just like, well, what a honey?
- 28:27You know, well, I think the same with saying what a hunk?
- 28:33Don't you reckon? Because what a hunk is objectifying a man? Oh
- 28:36absolutely, it is so what I always feel completely objectivey referred to as such,
- 28:40exactly right. So when someone honks their horn says what a hunk,
- 28:41you should feel the same way a woman would feel when they say what a
- 28:44honey. I mean, so you're pro cat calling. I just wish I
- 28:48could wolf whistle. I just can't do it. Can you wolf whistle?
- 28:51Oh? Absolutely not, you can't do it. Now. I've always been
- 28:53a fairly human whistle. I've been I've been jealous my whole life of people
- 28:57who can do the finger one oh yeah, oh, particularly the one hand
- 29:00time. Oh, man, like you are a hunk, you go to
- 29:04a party and you need some order, and someone and just bust that that
- 29:07and you're like, oh, I wish I could do that, damn it.
- 29:11Yeah. But anytime that happens, of course, that person is gonna
- 29:14get bodily fluids on the hamburger. Someone whistling at a party or a restaurant
- 29:18or something like that. I don't know. But when it's like you get
- 29:21attention, it's like right time of the cake. Everyone listened. No's just
- 29:25and everyone stops. What's that? Sam? That was a pretty good while.
- 29:27That's just a normous That's just a whistle. Do you know how I
- 29:30do? You know how? I learned to whistle by practicing the intro to
- 29:33patients from Guns and Roses because I try to do it, and I did
- 29:45the whole thing. I was just practice when I was a kid, and
- 29:48that's how I trained myself to change the tone to my whistle. Thanks the
- 29:52Axle Rose, you did at least one thing right, one thing. He
- 29:56went up the rail for a while. It seems you've got his life back
- 29:57on track. No, that's good. I think I think I know about
- 30:00as much about Axl Rose I do about Mandellen. I went and saw Guns
- 30:03and Roses last year. Last year they're touring again as the original band.
- 30:07Is he still were in the Dreadlocks? No, No, he's misbarides.
- 30:10No, he's he's got through his mid life crisis and he just seems to
- 30:12have He was doing charity ship like in Australia. I'm like a rose doing
- 30:17charity. What is happening? Here. He always seemed like not a softie,
- 30:22but he seems like he had a good heart. Yes, even though
- 30:26he was that kind of thing. Now, if he reminded me of people
- 30:30that I grew up with. I grew up in Cryer in or Lane,
- 30:32and they're rough as bags, but you know that'd always be there for you
- 30:34if he needed them, but you always wanted them on your side and on
- 30:37the other side. I'm gonna start to using the term rough as bags.
- 30:41Heard that before, never heard it roughest guts, rough as bags, I
- 30:45know, rough as gud. Rough as bags is the plat way of saying.
- 30:47It's like the honey's roughest guts. I feel like I'm getting a terrific
- 30:52education. Yeah, you learn a lot when you grew up in Cryer,
- 30:56I believe me. But he ends up getting to the to the impound and
- 31:00there's already a lot of people. There's a wine line, as he calls
- 31:03them, and Crusty's once he's blow or he's blow better still be in the
- 31:07glove box. When he gets there and he's like, oh my god,
- 31:10you people miss ball. There's nothing can do about it. You're like God.
- 31:12Then he offers Homer flatbed friend's job for five hundred dollars for the truck.
- 31:18It's pretty cheap for a truck. Well, Loui's actually doing good bye
- 31:22homie. Yeah, and then he changes the mudflaps, as we've already discussed,
- 31:25threatens him though, saying you say, out of this territory, and
- 31:27you're like, okay, well that's going to come into play at some point
- 31:30down the track. That's the driver. I just remember two rules. One
- 31:33stick to Springfield. If I catch you on my turf, I'll rip off
- 31:37your head, vomit down your neck, pull out your heart, show it
- 31:40to your head, then shove them both down your neck. Hall to which
- 31:42I previously alluded, there are two l's and eluded rule number two. Always
- 31:48keep your hook pointed out right. What happens if I pointed this way,
- 31:52Oh, hello, hello captain hook. Oh spoil spoils. Oh you're no
- 31:59fun? And what do you think of they always have your hook pointed out
- 32:04gag Oh, I said, you're making it very difficult to defend these gay
- 32:07jokes that the Simpsons keeps doing. Yes, it felt very two thousand and
- 32:10seven. I just watched this going. There's clearly no diversity in the writer's
- 32:15room. It's very evident when you watch these episodes of The Simpsons, there's
- 32:19no one in there who's either a diverse enough from the LGBTQ plus community,
- 32:27or there's no one in the white writer's room who feels like they can stand
- 32:30up and say this probably shouldn't go into the show. I would say that's
- 32:34the case. There's always the again Devil's advocate ding ding Ding argument of like,
- 32:38well, we're including everybody and making fun of everybody, and you know
- 32:42this isn't really making this is sledging gay people. It's just having gay people
- 32:45in a joke and making a joke about that kind of thing. Well,
- 32:50it was very much like the in the nineties. Remember it was if you
- 32:52had an earring in your right ear, that meant you were gay. Left
- 32:55ear was okay. A lot of my friends had it in their left ears,
- 32:58like you're right here because that means you gay. And I was like,
- 33:00okay, sure if that's There's this great Alpiacino movie called Cruising Have you
- 33:06ever heard of this one made in the early eighties, where there's a string
- 33:09of serial murders in a sub section of the gay community, guys who are
- 33:14into sort of s and M and heavy leather and all this kind of stuff,
- 33:15and they all sort of look like Albacina, who's this cop? And
- 33:19so I'm going to send you deep undercover in this community. And Alpiacina is
- 33:23supposedly straight, although when he's exposed to this world, he's like, no,
- 33:27man' just don't have feelings. Sounds like a movie that's probably should get
- 33:30talked about a lot more of these days. It feels pretty progressive. It
- 33:35kind of it is in a lot of ways, and it's also very much
- 33:37of its time in a lot of way. Okay, but there's a great
- 33:40scene where Pacino goes to this particular shop and he's saying, what's the there
- 33:45with all these bandannas he goes, all right, if you wear a blue
- 33:47bandana in your left hand pocket, it means this. If you wear in
- 33:50your right pocket, it means this. Yellow ones, brown ones, red
- 33:52ones, et cetera. And they all have different codes. I'm going to
- 33:58go home and think about it, but that's I would surprise me. It's
- 34:04a little bit of a play on that. It's like you've got to have
- 34:05your hook turned out words otherwise or inwards inwards means that you're on that side.
- 34:09Yes, okay, always make sure it's outwards. That's all it has
- 34:14to do. I just know I'll be interested to hear of anyone who was
- 34:16gay, whether they were not necessarily offended by. But I think it's funny
- 34:22because you brought up that it's offensive so much as this is kind of tired.
- 34:28It does feel old hat, doesn't it. Yeah, yeah, just
- 34:30having them again spell it out so much like, oh you're and I found
- 34:34all that kind of business. I mean, just have a car sort of
- 34:37pulling up, playing house music, playing and playing the camp be oh you
- 34:42voice, you know. Yeah, that's a bit kind of don't overdo it.
- 34:45It's because they've just they've had a couple of episodes. They had the
- 34:47episode if you must do it, don't overdo it homosphobia, because I also
- 34:52had the heart stuff coming through, had the all albums and John Waters is
- 34:54very campy in himself right of course. But you also had the episode where
- 35:00had he came out and she got married, and they kind of ruined it
- 35:02there with the actually being a male pretending to be a female. It was
- 35:07a male, wasn't it a male pretend to be a female. But Adam's
- 35:08apple, wasn't it that? It? Yeah, pretty sure it was a
- 35:12male pretending to be a female or something like that. I don't know,
- 35:14but still you've shown that, and I'm pretty sure is where Paddy goes.
- 35:17No, No, I'm not going to marry you because I like chicks or
- 35:20whatever. You've shown. You've shown the progressiveness of the writer's room that you
- 35:25can be progressive, but then you go back to this stuff again. It
- 35:29feels like with women it's one thing, but the male dominated writers room still
- 35:34see that as funny in two thousand and seven, which is not a shame.
- 35:37It's just sort of know, it's eye opening when you go back and
- 35:39revisit the episodes and go ah, at the time, probably wouldn't stood out
- 35:43so much, but in twenty twenty four it really stands out because I never
- 35:45I never saw The Simpsons as a show that was so heavy on the not
- 35:50anti gay jokes, but just the what would you call these lazy gay jokes?
- 35:53Yeah, and there's a lot of them, I want to ock.
- 35:55In the last three seasons, it's probably one in every two or three episodes.
- 35:59Absolutely we're pointed it out. Yeah, every single and We're not doing
- 36:01this to be like finger wagging soules or anything like that. I've just never
- 36:06realized it at the time. How many they were? Yeah, and they
- 36:08are. They are lazy yep. But yeah, moving on, So the
- 36:14Homer has got his first home. He breaks off the the what do they
- 36:16call the bumpo and everything, the Toba axle whatever. I don't nothing about
- 36:21cars. I shoed to just build them. That's it. That's great news
- 36:23for anyone driving a forward and for it is no longer a business. Have
- 36:29you driven a forward? Likely? No? This next scene was kind of
- 36:31I'm not too sure about this. So he takes the rich Texans car.
- 36:35He says he's got po pogonophobia whatever it is where he's afraid of mustaches and
- 36:38beards. Actual condition, let's find out. I will google that right now.
- 36:44Is that I feel like you can't make that up right, overwhelming fear
- 36:47of worry about beards. Yeah, so it's a real thing. But then
- 36:51he the woman's got everything in it? Does it really does? Yeah?
- 36:54He goes into the Santa School to call a cab and then shoots some Santas
- 36:59because he's afraid of the beer years and I thought, I don't know about
- 37:01that. I wasn't necessarily all that concern. I wasn't concerned. I was
- 37:06kids watching. But Bart is now skating. I like this, So I
- 37:09actually, really I really liked the end of this scene because it could have
- 37:12gone two ways. Right, So he's having a great time, faster,
- 37:15more dangerous, slams to stop sign because how he's doing the right thing stop
- 37:17sign, but he hits his head. He's laying there and Homer Tones looks
- 37:21at him and I've got I have my hand on the keyboard, read the
- 37:23type. If he fucking leaves Bart on the road, I'm done. And
- 37:27then Bart wakes up start laughing. They both laugh, and I was like,
- 37:30oh, okay, okay. Well played as almost like Stephanie was like,
- 37:32see, this is what the guys would have done with Homer. But
- 37:35I made you, I fooled you. But I just like that they're both
- 37:38okay. So it's all good. But it feels like we're at that point
- 37:42Tho where it feels like, were you expecting Homy to drive off? No?
- 37:45I wasn't. I was okay. Yeah. Now having said this,
- 37:49we've just spent a little while talking about the writer's room, and saying,
- 37:52oh, the guys are responsible for this laimemark gay joke, but they're also
- 37:59crediting Stephanie with this thing. Okay, can we have can we have it
- 38:01both ways? Would stephan is Stephanie gillis responsible for that, for that lazy
- 38:06gay joke? Maybe possibly think about it. Yeah, there you go.
- 38:09I'm just asking questions. I'm Alex Jones. Whilst Sephanie name is on the
- 38:15episode right, as Carolyn Amine always says to me when we're talking about her
- 38:19episode, she writes the episode and they are their Yeah, absolutely this was
- 38:24this. It's a writer's room, but the person gets their name that she
- 38:28writes the spec Now I am well aware. I mean, just again as
- 38:32we are regular segment on the show, what guys saw on Twitter? But
- 38:38believe it's how old are you? Fuck man? X? Never going to
- 38:42call it X, fuck you? Whel Kingdom of the Planet of Apes is
- 38:46out. Everyone's tilling apes. Everyone's going ape at the moment and justify poppin
- 38:50apes. But they were talking about stop the plane of the Apes. I
- 38:57want to get off and either two things. Yeah, the two minute thing
- 39:00there and I think it was Josh Weinstein or Winstein. He probably does want
- 39:05to have a pronounced Like Harvey's saying, here's here's a case for writer's room
- 39:09because we all put a lot of ideas and this this is not one person,
- 39:15This is not even a handful of it. There's a lot of people.
- 39:19He literally says, one person could not have written this. One person
- 39:21could not have written this, exactly right. So yeah, the point all
- 39:24the ideas bouts because we're talking about how Stephanie would have had her names on
- 39:28the on the on the episodes of Writer. But it's a writer's room,
- 39:30and you feel like writer's rooms are becoming a dying art now though there's not
- 39:34having him in. It's like someone who writes something, they'll send it an
- 39:36email of this person. I'll add their little contribution. But having a you
- 39:38can't you can't manufacture the energy of being in a writer's room. I've never
- 39:42been a part of one, but I can just imagine the ideas being thrown
- 39:45around. It's like yes, no, and just writing everything down and feeling
- 39:47the atmosphere and feeling the energy that's coming from absolutely collaboration creat stuff or just
- 39:52creates a good mood that's conducive to creating stuff. I mean I remember them
- 39:55when we were working in the call it the marketing department of of pop culture.
- 40:00You know, there was the room that had you me our power role,
- 40:04and you know and Alex Pwell all these people, and when we sort
- 40:08of got on a roll when we should have been working work. That's true,
- 40:15but if someone told a good joke, it would invariably sort of create
- 40:20a bit of a snowball effect where you know, everyone would end up laughing
- 40:23because everyone was sort of like more atlandish in the next wasn't it not necessarily
- 40:29wanting to top each other? But it's like it's very much like the Parker
- 40:31and Stone thing of like it's not and then it's therefore and butt like oh
- 40:37but also this, you know, that's it. I get that. I
- 40:40get the feeling. That's what a great writer's room is like, where just
- 40:44ideas beget great ideas, beget great ideas, be get great ideas and occasionally
- 40:47dad ideas. We're just like you all feel confident enough and safe enough to
- 40:52go. That's not it? Not what about though? Yeah not that but
- 40:57this yeah, now people at home. S man here came of one of
- 41:00the greatest marketing campaigns that popcorch has ever seen called turn down for what?
- 41:07But how many times did I do something? Turned down for what? Until
- 41:12we got turned down for what? Many many times? But one hit it
- 41:15was? It worked, didn't you have the was it? The who was?
- 41:19The davidly hoff Is what you said had a fairly limited range. But
- 41:27with then that range, George Lougas, give me a call. Actually no,
- 41:31Kathleen Kennedy, give me a call. Turn last word into Star Wars
- 41:36reference. Well, I was the one suggested that Brindon Dando called his first
- 41:43son Lando nearly. I nearly got Marlin over the line. I know Nicholas,
- 41:50like n I just can't do it. Marlon Dando? What he would
- 41:53have been a stud? That's it. And it became to some overweight alcoholic
- 41:59mess. Look my boy, what would he say though? Look at the
- 42:06massacre my breakfast? Did someone say gipsy? Oh boy, we were worth
- 42:19it just for that right? It would it would have been in a day.
- 42:22Now we were up to Santa School. Santa School, Yeah, but
- 42:25bart skating and skating yea yeah, yes, So now the counselor is at
- 42:29Marge's house and I really like this. The demonstraatet care or just all these
- 42:32buzzwords and terms of everything right. And that's how it felt like when she
- 42:36came, I'll never forget. When she goes, I know he's crying,
- 42:37but just leave you, and I'm thinking I'm not gonna know, and she
- 42:42goes, I want to go in there. She goes, no, you
- 42:43can't go in there, and I'm like, I know i'm paying you,
- 42:45but you're actually in my fucking house and I'm going to do what I want
- 42:47to do. And we have to find that balance of let him cry a
- 42:50little bit. And then but what we found was with alliot crying, is
- 42:53he go in there, don't cuddle him everything, just sort of like put
- 42:57him on the back, make him away that you're still here, and then
- 43:00go outside. And eventually that is assured. That's the thing. Yeah,
- 43:04I just like that now you're fee to live like a human being. And
- 43:07then she hears Maggie, and I just thought this was just so me.
- 43:10She's not crying, she's celebrating your independence. And I was like, hugs
- 43:14of drugs. Your daughter's like, shut up, that's not how it is.
- 43:17But march kicker on the crutch and entering, I think you should have
- 43:21been more angry about that, but I liked that. Marjor's like goes in
- 43:24there and it turns out it has worked. Now she says here, I'm
- 43:27pretty sure as I am okay on the blocks, which apparently is a reference
- 43:30to my mother the carjacker when Marge's mum was writing the letters in the newspaper,
- 43:36remember the first letter of every sentence. Yeah, So Homer is now
- 43:39towing Artie pye. I thought you might have appreciated it. You're in the
- 43:43sky now, my demand. Yes, until he throws the wrench into the
- 43:46propeller blaze and caused it to crash, and he draps me away home.
- 43:50Is now buying a round of lobster politans at Moe's well because he's got Toto
- 43:54that he's looking to blow them. Yes, and then he overhears Leny saying
- 43:58he's been parking at the front for eighty one minutes, which is past the
- 44:00one hour mark, so he tows Lenny's car away. Maggie then climbs into
- 44:05her own chair, gets herself a banana. Marchin just notices his oh you've
- 44:07helped yourself. Oh okay, andeminates I like where this story is going,
- 44:12very relatable. Where have you been March. When you're married to a midnight
- 44:16toe boy, you might not see him for days on end. I don't
- 44:20want to live like that. Hey, when you married a man who would,
- 44:22years later, with a warning, become a tow truck driver, you
- 44:27knew what the deal would eventually be. Well, no one's disputing there,
- 44:31but he's Toad Skinner's car. He's now in a chair with a stick,
- 44:34which a bit silly one. Yeah, Flanners here rocks up, causing Toma.
- 44:38Homer's just route to him for no apparent reason. But Homer has he
- 44:44towed the Sunday school bus with the kids still involved, so Homer's there to
- 44:46pay. Flanders had to pay the bill. Now everyone's throwing darts at home.
- 44:50They all hate him because he's towing all their cars away. I think
- 44:52it is no other tow drivers in Springfield. It's asking him, don't,
- 44:57don't, don't do the wrong thing. That's how going to make some big
- 45:00leaps. Yeah, Agnes has a plan known because she's married three Tojo's in
- 45:04the past. And this is where side show. Malt Is roundly is nervous,
- 45:07doesn't want to come close, so she says she might gum him and
- 45:08I was like, oh my, I was like, oh what, and
- 45:13he might like it. Then they paint the fake disabled park on the road
- 45:16and they change the billboard to say he's still in Springfield and they're gonna be
- 45:20playing a trick on Homer. But Mel wants to get out of the because
- 45:22he's got theater tickets and Mo rips them up. You got nothing. Marge
- 45:27then watches Maggie with her own baby book, putting her hair in there and
- 45:29things like that, and she she has the sack of potatoes because she thinks
- 45:31they're neat. That's like, oh, okay, well that's nice. Yeah,
- 45:36it's a little callback. Homer then sees the trap and if my life
- 45:39were a teleplay, this would be the end of act two. I don't
- 45:42mind breaking the fourth wall. I thought that was pretty funny because they paid
- 45:45off at the end. So Louis sees him hits him an end of at
- 45:49two, put me down your loading, Okay, I'm warning him, Wow,
- 45:57I'll kill you. You've done all right, buddy, that I don't
- 46:02well, this reminds me of you know, when he's like must kill Mode
- 46:14throws him into the trapdoor and he uses the JOm bon Jovi Bust, which
- 46:17is very much like Batman, very much like Batman. You're right, Yeah,
- 46:20who doesn't use John bun Jovi? No, who does he use?
- 46:22Who does he use? I'm guessing it's like them. It's either something US
- 46:25sixties, some man bust, trapdoor, some Roman general or the mayor of
- 46:30Gotham City. It is uh Shakespeare, Shakespeare, Yes, that's Batman.
- 46:37Apparently Shakespeareeah, there is Shakespeare. I just rewatched his sixties Batman. I've
- 46:40got him on Blu Ray do you now? Well? Oh, speaking of
- 46:44little I heard you. I heard you went wild on Marketplace the other day.
- 46:47So much physical media, but inside scoop for all you are physical media
- 46:52fans out there, Jemi High fans me Jemi High fight believe either next week
- 46:55or the week after, depending on when you listen to this. So we're
- 46:58recording from the fourteenth, so it'll be last week maybe or the second last
- 47:01week of May in twenty twenty four. Buy one, get one free on
- 47:05offical media box sets. Anything interesting? Okay? Then they had the twenty
- 47:10percent sales. Well I fell for it like a sucker because you didn't know
- 47:15about the boy and get one free. No, you do have you opened
- 47:16them? One of them yes, the other one no, return it and
- 47:19then you get it for free next time. Wow. When you go to
- 47:22buy the next one, say I just want to return this. By the
- 47:23way, I want to buy it again, please, they can't say no,
- 47:27I've done it before many times I returned something and then paid less money
- 47:30for it. Well, that sounds like a good plan. Yeah. I
- 47:31was like, I'll have my money back, thanks, and now I want
- 47:34it for free and they're like, oh, good scam man, we didn't
- 47:37see this. I love our little scams. It is good to beat the
- 47:44system. It is good to beat when it seems like the systems have to
- 47:46beat us up on the regular bit buy one, get one free. Yeah,
- 47:49I'm going to be buying me some box sets. Okay, you get
- 47:51some. Yes. I got The Ocean's Trilogy on four K. Do you
- 47:54don't own it on Blu ray? I did? But the four k A
- 47:58upgrades and it does. I believe me. I'm a cheapskate. I went
- 48:01online and I said, okay, worth it to upgrade, and people who's
- 48:06opinion I respect and trust said they look better, they sound better. I
- 48:09just can't see that enough of a difference to justify buying them again. If
- 48:15if I own them on Blu Ray, I'll buy them on four cap.
- 48:17But it've already owned, unless it's a movie like Jaws or something like that,
- 48:20where I just have to own every copy of it, every version of
- 48:22it. Well, Oceans is like that for me. I love the ocean
- 48:25of the movies. So the other drivers are all down in the trap door,
- 48:28have all been kept there. They are actually a capella group. They've
- 48:30been practicing. They're sitting under the ball work, which kind of goes nowhere,
- 48:34it really does. Homer then looks out the window and he's sort of
- 48:37he's trapped there now. I did like though that they planted earlier on.
- 48:42Stephanie thought ahead and went, Okay, marg is going to be worried,
- 48:45why hasn't home he come home yet? Because he told her earlier on there
- 48:47may be some times why I don't come home for a couple of nights,
- 48:50but don't you worry about me. So at least she covered the Oh,
- 48:52will you just cover your tracks at least make an effort, you know what
- 48:54I mean when you cover your button. Yeah, So everyone is now illegally
- 48:59parking, just cutting into each other, Yeah, I get where this was
- 49:02coming from, was like, oh, okay, it descends into anarchy.
- 49:05I would have liked it was a little bit based in reality, where you
- 49:07know how it always is when I just need one thing, I'm only going
- 49:13to be five minutes, so you don't pay for parking, or you park
- 49:15in the so the handicaps, taxi zone or something all the taxi zone or
- 49:17whatever, or the loading zone, and that way sort of is that that's
- 49:22the roots of anarchy. And I would have been like, if everyone was
- 49:25saying I just need one thing or I'm just gotta go do this, it'll
- 49:29be two minutes, and that sets the ball rolling, which is like,
- 49:32oh no, yeah, it's parking chaos in Springfield. So it's more this
- 49:36is out of spite, isn't it. It is, yeah, which also
- 49:38works, but it's a small change that would have made me feel so much
- 49:43happier. And of course this is what they should be thinking about. Well,
- 49:45the Sensu's right, it's room at all times. I don't mind if
- 49:47you do this, though, just give it a payoff. Because there was
- 49:50no payoff to it. I think we didn't explain this behavior. There was
- 49:52no sort of repercussions. No, no, the only payoff was just escalation.
- 49:57And that's it. The last thing we see is the train going through
- 49:59this. Well, there was no It just felt like you didn't need to
- 50:01have that at all. Really, it didn't. It didn't. It didn't
- 50:05need to have Springfield breaking into anarchy at all because you open up a new
- 50:08story thread that just was left open. Yeah, I don't understand why they
- 50:12brought then maybe he's a deleted scene or something. I'm not too sure.
- 50:15But Homer then calls Lisa. Is his one phone call. Don't call the
- 50:17police. Oh no, forgot, It's a ransom call, isn't it.
- 50:21Yeah? Yeah, yeah, don't call the police or I will kill me
- 50:22goodbye forever. And I thought, okay, Springfield and break breaking, the
- 50:27cast of the ship, the Blimp of the Trainers we discussed earlier than homes
- 50:30telling stories of Transformers and Shrek three. Taking the mickey out of Shrek three.
- 50:34Sometimes he speaks Medieval times, sometimes he speaks today times. Reminds me
- 50:37of your favorite quote from Cable Guy with the PEPSI. That's right, there
- 50:42was no cutlor in medieval times, so there's no cutlery out medieval times.
- 50:45Yes, but and millhouse and no cutting ways out of the the Bible.
- 50:51Sorry to see which words I can say. I didn't really get this.
- 50:53He just calls them a dumb ass whore. Is it just their way of
- 50:57swearing having swearing on because it doesn't go anywhere that No, one doesn't doesn't.
- 51:00No, it's just there. For one scene, Marge is worried at
- 51:04home. It's been a couple of days since he's been there. Maggie over
- 51:06here, so she goes to rescue Homer. She takes Sanders little helper,
- 51:08how she found him, how she knew he was in Guidopolis. I'm not
- 51:10too sure about that. Actually, yeah, I think we needed a bit
- 51:14if you're going to be steering into this not necessarily fantasy. She holds something
- 51:17in front of the dog's face to say, I was wondering about if is
- 51:21there a scent? Bit? Maybe I missed that. I'm not too sure
- 51:23when I was writing my notes, because that would at least offer some sort
- 51:25of explanation. I did not see it either, but I was also looking
- 51:30away from the screen. Yes, let's assume they did. Let's let's give
- 51:34these guys a benefit of the debt. I was liking the Et Moon parody
- 51:37as they walked with you would yeah, big et fan. Of course they
- 51:40arrive at Guidopolis, how she sees Thomas's face on the moon and mean another
- 51:45gay line here, that's yeah. Basically Homer says, I'm in charge,
- 51:49so I'll be able to decide how far we can go with each other without
- 51:51being gay. There's love making them taking them me yet of gay gays.
- 51:57But Maggie attaches the truck to the bars, smash is it out? And
- 52:00then that's how they get free and that's the end of Louis. That's the
- 52:05end of the Matt Damon plot subplot, but it's Maddylant Damon. Yeah,
- 52:10I'll tell you interview Matt Didylan once he did I did call me bro,
- 52:15bro. What was the reference? Is that? How you doing, bro?
- 52:17Or what was it? I think we must have had a bad connection
- 52:21or I sort of said something with a weird inflection goes, oh you we
- 52:23restrained? Yeah, goes sound american bro come to you. But hearing Matt
- 52:34Dylan call me bro one of those moments. It's always nice when you feel
- 52:37like you're their friend, or when they when they're clever enough to make you
- 52:40feel that way. Yes, they are actors. Yes, Maggie, you
- 52:45did all this, and you pay you back. I'm returning your notes.
- 52:51You know, would you beg you know? Oh wait, least knows.
- 52:57But I really, as you mentioned earlier, really liked the way ended.
- 53:00So Homer returns Maggie's nose as a payment for saving him. Very sweet,
- 53:02a very sweet gesture. Yeap, Yes, I liked theole. So that's
- 53:06Lisa's nose. I thought, well done. So Marge then says that she's
- 53:09moved on. Maggie. Don't worry, I've moved on with the potatoes now.
- 53:12Maggie says, I'm not having any of that. She punches the potato
- 53:14bag. She just wants a hug. Are you sure? Because hugs a
- 53:16drug puts a dummy in her mouth, and that's it. That's it.
- 53:20I've got here. A beautiful ending, I think. For me, the
- 53:22way it ended really made me feel like the episode overall was really good.
- 53:27When you break things down, every episode of Simpson is gonna have it's weird,
- 53:29what the fuck moments. This one had a lot less than what we've
- 53:31had previously this season, so there's definitely the best one of the season so
- 53:34far. Well, Daddy Dando thinks this, Yeah, look it was I
- 53:38I think it was perfectly It was perfectly fine. You like this better than
- 53:42the Homer of Seville. You start that episode by going, do we have
- 53:44to talk about this one? And on before that we had fucking the one
- 53:46with Stephen Colbert as the It is the best episode so far, yeah,
- 53:52by a long margin in my opinion. But I really really liked this episode
- 53:55of Midnight Toe Boy. The b plot for me, as I said,
- 53:58was a lot more enjoyable related just because you said in the first one,
- 54:00I think that the had more laughs. But I enjoyed overall the margin and
- 54:05Maggie plot. And it's a story that I'm surprised I haven't already done so
- 54:08far, because it's just it's one of the classic parts of parenting is seeing
- 54:13your kids grow up. And it's an episode the Reason of Carolyn and Meine
- 54:15where I interviewed it for it. I can't remember what it was called,
- 54:20but it excased me. I apologies Carolyn, but it's the one where March
- 54:23has come to terms with the fact that Bart isn't her little boy anymore.
- 54:25Oh yes, And it has an incredible ending, very similar to this,
- 54:30and it just feels like the March Stories. Now it's weird. Never used
- 54:35to really like the March episodes. The March Stories seem to have the best
- 54:37endings in my opinion of the when Bart is the shoplifter this episode here,
- 54:43as well as the urban moaning Lisa, which she says to Lisa, if
- 54:46you want to be sad, be sad, I'll be here for you.
- 54:49March. Good character, just not written well all the time. You're a
- 54:52big softy down Yeah, I have a big softie probab. We love you
- 54:54for it. What do we learn, Bom? What'd you learn from the
- 54:58episode with Davis? Okay, what I didn't learn? How far you can
- 55:00go without being game? Would you like to know more? He's confused,
- 55:08Like, I don't have to say you say that the meme of Johnny Rico
- 55:15has got desire to know more intensifies. It's great. I learned that you
- 55:21should always have your hawk pointing outwards or inwards, whatever flows you boat,
- 55:23whatever gets you through the night, as Lendon would say, Indeed, indeed
- 55:28we both went for the for the low hanging fruit, so to speak.
- 55:31Oh sorry, that's a worthy of the Simpsons Writing Room from forward, your
- 55:37names will be all right. It's time for the Guy Davis New Name Championship
- 55:40that currently the board stands at this mister Davis in first position. We have
- 55:45Adam Wolhouse, phil Hawkins Philip Jay Hawkins because he's in first position, as
- 55:49well as Kyle Muldoon clever, Kyle Heath Apple be in second position now on
- 55:52three points. Heath that would be on two points, and Matt Collins on
- 55:54one point. Hit me? Do we only refer to Philip Jay Hawkins with
- 55:59the jay when he lugging well I said that in the last episode. Yeah,
- 56:02position, Then we show him his proper respect, so he gets the
- 56:07one two three this week, mister Davis. Okay. One point goes to
- 56:09small Time Hooks. Oh, that goes through her first time ever on the
- 56:14leaderboard. I think it's Rage Beasley Beasley, well done, McKim no relation.
- 56:22Probably Rach Beasley, well done. One point, Rage, very nice
- 56:25to have you, congratulations on joining the leaderboard and joining the New Name Challenge.
- 56:30Two points goes to hook Wine and Stinker Wine with a w H.
- 56:36I'm assuming that is correct. You stinker wine? Should they stinker or sinkerk
- 56:43stinker. Yeah, yeah, you was thinking pretty sure we you said it
- 56:45off the air. Yeah, every time we here see the word stinker,
- 56:46your stinker? What was that? What was the production company for that?
- 56:49That's David E. Kelly isn't the maker of Ally McBeal and Boston Legals?
- 56:53And that one is okay? So that would be Clever Kyle. Clever Carle
- 56:58is now in first position. That can it in from three points to five
- 57:00points? Well, Clever Kyle very well now, but three points goes to
- 57:07toe life. That is another new b Jared Hornby. There we go.
- 57:10We've got two new people on the lid of what I like this. We
- 57:14got a competition, yes, all about it. Yeah, So Jared Hornby
- 57:15with the three points there, which means we have Clever Kyle on five points
- 57:20in the first position we have Adam Moorehouse, Jared Hornby and Phil Hawkins and
- 57:23second position Phil all right, a serious moment, Yeah, on four finger
- 57:29discount. We're talking about the new name channels we pointed out last week or
- 57:32even the week before that. Yeah, some of you are very eager.
- 57:37You go right for it, and we appreciate that, but we must stipulate
- 57:43two entries per person. You know more than that, but some people are
- 57:45putting in like ten entries and it was just getting way out of hands.
- 57:49So you've got two entries, and always look to see what other people have
- 57:52written as well, because if they've written it and you write it writ after
- 57:54them, then it's completely just it's null and void. So you have to
- 57:58have two original ones to get in to make sure yours don't get copied.
- 58:00Yes, and if you do submit more than two, we're only going to
- 58:05pick the first two that you do. Yes, And unfortunately, what's happened
- 58:07this week is I'm going to name it Fergus Chef's right, Gus guy,
- 58:13like your fifth one that you put in there. But we have to follow
- 58:15the rules and make it fair for everybody. You're number five, which was
- 58:19what Reap, What your Toe? What your Toe, would have got the
- 58:22three points this week, but unfortunately you had four other names before it,
- 58:25which means we couldn't use it. Yeah, Fergus, we don't make the
- 58:28rules, except we really make the rules. We really do make the rules.
- 58:30Yeah, and in this case we got all a buye bye. Sorry
- 58:34man, it's really good. Don't get me wrong. You're capable of good
- 58:37stuff, So keep so many the names, but only two maketual lugan one,
- 58:39two, three, four five. Yes, so it was the fifth
- 58:42one that you put in there. Fergus apologies, you would have gotten the
- 58:45leader board this week three points. But everybody pay attention to the rules two
- 58:49per person to keep it fair and make sure you don't copy. Look look
- 58:52what everyone else is written first, so you don't copy as well, because
- 58:53we don't want your name to be the same as someone that wins. And
- 58:55you go, well, what didn't mine get it because he came second.
- 58:58So look what's been on there, and only put two in that way,
- 59:00it's all fair for everybody. Now focus. We are sorry for naming names
- 59:04and making an example out of you, but for example, it was a
- 59:07great name and it's a shame we couldn't get a point. But that's why
- 59:09it didn't get a point. Yeah, but at the same time, you're
- 59:12also getting your name said out a lot on the podcast, which is something
- 59:14the people pay top dollar for, and you reput your toe. That's why
- 59:22he's the king, all right. I don't forget guys. You want to
- 59:24be part of the Guy Davis new name championship. We just got to be
- 59:28a supporter of ours on Patreons. So for the little one single dollar we
- 59:30do a month, that's all. It is, one dollar a month.
- 59:32Think of all the money you waste on coffees and pop vinyls and ship that
- 59:37you don't need to be in the house to buy one get one free salor
- 59:39JB exactly. Would I be happy with a dollar? No, going down
- 59:43to be much happy with that one dollar. So put that one dollar in
- 59:45our pocket by being supported ours on Patreon and help the show flourish and grow.
- 59:49That's a hell of the sales pitch. All right. Time for the
- 59:51mail bags A Davis mail bag. First question here from Keith Nedham. I
- 59:58just want to be the first to say that I'm not do JP. There
- 1:00:00you go. That's not a question, Keith, but there you go.
- 1:00:02Andrew JP says, aside from the wonderful John bon Jovi, who's your favorite
- 1:00:07Italian American celebrity goalie? Isino Italian American? I believe he is? Yeah,
- 1:00:13Baina is a good one. You have to be out there, wouldn't
- 1:00:14he Sinatra? Okay? Is Matt Dylan or do you just playing Italian?
- 1:00:22If he is he's doing it really well. Let's have a look an American
- 1:00:25actor. Let's see where he was born? Though, where do you reckon
- 1:00:29he was born? Joys? Probably not? It feels like a New York.
- 1:00:32He was raised in New York. Yes, okay by Mary Allen and
- 1:00:37Paul Dylon, a portrait painter and sales manager for toy bear manufacturer Union Camp.
- 1:00:43So we go. He's not Italian? Okay, let's go with the
- 1:00:46the the obvious choices like Bacino and Sinatra and Rachel McLean. Have you ever
- 1:00:52had your car toad for doing something wrong? Have you had your cart toad
- 1:00:54at all? I have? Really? Yes? What did you do wrong?
- 1:00:58Well? I parked in a disabled zone in front of a fire hydrant
- 1:01:00and parking No, I was working a place in Melbourne. Uh, and
- 1:01:07you chase after it? I honestly thought that my car had been stolen?
- 1:01:12Really? Yeah, I would think that as well. Yeah, I parked
- 1:01:15in a Yeah what do you call it? A clearing zone or a loading
- 1:01:20zone? But do they leave a thing behind us? Say you've been robbed
- 1:01:22by night burglar? So how do you know? How do you? I
- 1:01:25think you just have to twig and realize oh, I parked in the place
- 1:01:29where they say they'll tell your car if you are there at a certain time.
- 1:01:35Okay, yeah, so I was in I think Hawthorne. I came
- 1:01:37out, there's my car? Where the funk is it? I literally said,
- 1:01:44dude, where's my cat? And this, and then stole the hell
- 1:01:52and then I'd be freaking out. Yeah, look up the signs. I
- 1:01:55think they might have told it. So then you start doing your online research.
- 1:02:00It's like, okay, who would I call the vine if my car's
- 1:02:02actually been toed? Here's my license, Oh, here's my my my Regione
- 1:02:07number. Whatever. Yeah, we've taken your car. It's gonna cost you
- 1:02:12three hundred bucks or whatever. You you stinker, your stinker. And then
- 1:02:15on top of that, there's you know, the fine, but there's also,
- 1:02:17yeah, the money to Luckily, I had a really good i'dn't been
- 1:02:21working there long. I was sort of like a contractor. Yeah, and
- 1:02:22I said, oh, I come and sit down, we'll make your coffee,
- 1:02:24and okay, look a lord at you and uber all this kind of
- 1:02:28stuff, and you know, you can go get it. Are really nice
- 1:02:30about it. But honestly, yeah, my car was toired. That was
- 1:02:32the first and only time. It's never happening again. I'm keeping on the
- 1:02:36signs because holy shit, that was really stressful. Oh yeah, walking in
- 1:02:39in your car dost not being some ofs. You walk out and you can't
- 1:02:42re where you parked. That's stress full enough. Oh yeah, and I've
- 1:02:45had I've had that too. I did it last week. I was thinking
- 1:02:47I parked my car here like I would have backed my house on it,
- 1:02:51that my car was part here, but it was the next level left.
- 1:02:52I'm thinking, Am I Am I so out of touch? No, it's
- 1:02:57the chicken. It's the parking lot that is. It is the children who
- 1:02:59are wrong. It's the children. Wholluck drive me crazy. I can't come
- 1:03:01my short term memory, mate, Shot. I can't tell you what I
- 1:03:04did yesterday. I can tell you anything from like nineteen ninety four through to
