- Yoel Bakas: The 2026 reimbursement change is the largest change radiation oncology has seen in over a decade. When margins tighten like this, the system as a whole becomes less forgiving. That is why so many programs are looking at AI. They need to protect capacity without adding headcount. But here's the trap. If AI speeds up one part of the process, but you don't address the downstream workflow, Work does not decrease. The bottleneck just moves. Sometimes actually increase instead of decreasing. In 2026 math, small workflow misses become big financial misses. The bottom line is this. AI can protect margins, but only when the workflow is rebuilt around it.
