- 0:09Speaker 1: I thought this was fake, but it's a real story.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Pabi Baiez can't play in the World Baseball Classic. Why
- 0:18Speaker 1: because he smoked a little weed in twenty twenty three
- 0:22Speaker 1: or an edible or something that like half the league
- 0:25Speaker 1: has done. I'm like what, and wait, blame game here.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I was doing homework during the show because some of
- 0:32Speaker 1: our fans let us know about it. I thought I
- 0:34Speaker 1: saw something on Twitter x whatever and thought it was fake, right,
- 0:39Speaker 1: because there's plenty of fake stuff out there. And then
- 0:42Speaker 1: you know, fans are telling us and they're great and
- 0:44Speaker 1: they know, and then I start researching it and yes,
- 0:46Speaker 1: he has been denied suspended from twenty twenty three, and
- 0:49Speaker 1: it's a suspension that lasts through this World Baseball Classic,
- 0:54Speaker 1: so he cannot participate for wait for it, the team
- 0:57Speaker 1: that is getting screwed over and over again, Puerto Rico,
- 1:00Speaker 1: No Hobby Bias, no Francisco Lindor, no Carlos Korea, probably
- 1:05Speaker 1: no Jose Brios isn't on there, right, No tons of
- 1:08Speaker 1: guys missing from that roster. It's bullshit. This one probably
- 1:13Speaker 1: tops it all. MLB in the Player Association for the
- 1:15Speaker 1: most part, run the World Baseball Classic, but they have
- 1:18Speaker 1: to go through the federation that runs this, like the
- 1:21Speaker 1: World something federation that hip Kratz's nerdy brain probably knows
- 1:25Speaker 1: more about, so he'll fill us in. Apparently both sides
- 1:28Speaker 1: MLB and the PA, we're trying to figure this out,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and federation was like, Heisman, no, sorry, I know it's
- 1:34Speaker 1: legal in many spots and half the league, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: but but he's not allowed. And it's that's a terrible look.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Like if I'm if I'm MLB and the Players Association crats,
- 1:45Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, well, maybe we're gonna have to run
- 1:46Speaker 1: this tournament differently from now on, Like why how is
- 1:49Speaker 1: this federation still doing this shit?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Because this is a big I'm just gonna be careful.
- 1:55Speaker 2: There's I'm not afraid of Matrix Baseball. I'm afraid of WATA.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I'm afraid of the World Drug Association. So I'm afraid
- 2:02Speaker 2: of them. But I love that that our producer or
- 2:05Speaker 2: director named it in the weeds and we're talking about weeds.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I love that.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 2:10Speaker 2: On a Friday, I needed that. And the other thing, Scott,
- 2:15Speaker 2: it's over half. We used to play this practice. We
- 2:18Speaker 2: used to play this like go through the team I'm
- 2:20Speaker 2: not one of the guys that partakes in it. It's
- 2:22Speaker 2: my choice, it's not I'm not judging other people. But
- 2:25Speaker 2: we used to say how many guys, how many guys
- 2:28Speaker 2: you know edible or smokey. I'm like, looking around, I'm like,
- 2:32Speaker 2: that number is higher than fifty percent on every team
- 2:34Speaker 2: I played on, just saying.
- 2:37Speaker 4: No, and he's not wrong, he's not wrong, depending on
- 2:40Speaker 4: what team you're at. But yeah, they don't mess around.
- 2:43Speaker 4: They do pop up drug test. I mean it's like
- 2:44Speaker 4: the Olympics.
- 2:45Speaker 3: That's fine.
- 2:46Speaker 4: You see all the time these people get up, you know,
- 2:48Speaker 4: they got pop for marijuana and not allowed to do
- 2:50Speaker 4: Olympics after four years of training your heart out and
- 2:53Speaker 4: trying to work your rear end off to be in there,
- 2:55Speaker 4: and then you get pop for a little having a
- 2:58Speaker 4: little marijuana in your system.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 3:02Speaker 4: It's a tough one, but you know it's legal in
- 3:04Speaker 4: mostly every state too in America.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Like it's hard.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Steroid test, cool, go for it. Of course, We're all
- 3:10Speaker 1: for all that kind of testing, the.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Medical like they have needed for medical uses. Yeah, so
- 3:14Speaker 4: I don't I don't know much about it. Again, I
- 3:16Speaker 4: don't want to dive deep into it. But yeah, you
- 3:19Speaker 4: gotta you gotta understand that it is legal, but it's
- 3:23Speaker 4: not legal with when it comes to these federations.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I'm not fighting for the drug. I don't care. I'm
- 3:27Speaker 1: not a weed guy. Like I know. Sometimes when I'm
- 3:29Speaker 1: in the other studio I'm in like people will be
- 3:32Speaker 1: like Scott High all the time, I'm like, no, my
- 3:34Speaker 1: eyes the way the camera looks at it. Sorry, but
- 3:36Speaker 1: I do not smoke. It's it's not my thing. But
- 3:40Speaker 1: come on, if MLB still had it as a thing,
- 3:43Speaker 1: it's like, all right, I understand what's going on here
- 3:45Speaker 1: at least, but it's not a thing in MLB. So
- 3:48Speaker 1: now you're asking all of these MLB players to switch
- 3:52Speaker 1: their lifestyle for this. I'm sure many of them didn't
- 3:55Speaker 1: even know about this. And again, if we're going to
- 3:57Speaker 1: do the weed game in the World Baseball Classic, then
- 4:00Speaker 1: we're not going to have a game. We're gonna have
- 4:03Speaker 1: the Straight Edge Baseball Classic. There are not going to
- 4:06Speaker 1: be many people at that. Are they allowed to drink?
- 4:08Speaker 1: Can they have a beer? Where does it stop?
- 4:11Speaker 3: Oh?
- 4:11Speaker 1: They can? Okay? Cool, But this one's tough because Puerto Rico.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know you haven't been on for
- 4:16Speaker 1: this part much, but dude, Puerto Rico is getting just
- 4:19Speaker 1: drilled with the insurance stuff. And I'm just saying, it's
- 4:23Speaker 1: a top four team in the Classic, so it's like, okay, cool,
- 4:26Speaker 1: Like maybe Mexico or Venezuela can upset a team or two,
- 4:30Speaker 1: but otherwise is it's just the US Japan. Let's just
- 4:33Speaker 1: watch him in the title game because Puerto Rico can
- 4:36Speaker 1: do some damage. Oh sorry, my bad, dr my bad,
- 4:39Speaker 1: my bad, But still perto Rico. Puerto Rico is one
- 4:43Speaker 1: of the top teams. They can make noise. They finished
- 4:46Speaker 1: very high up in this tournament in the past, and
- 4:49Speaker 1: to me, my boiling point was before this with the
- 4:52Speaker 1: insurance with some of the guys. Now I'm way past it.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I'm like, one guy's booted. Of course, he's a guy
- 4:57Speaker 1: who could be pretty valuable in the Classic.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Steps up in the class with his swing, and I
- 5:02Speaker 4: don't know exactly where they're playing, but if they're playing
- 5:06Speaker 4: one of those high elevations and he gets that ball
- 5:09Speaker 4: in there, he can hit five homers in two games.
- 5:10Speaker 3: So yeah, they're playing in Puerto Rico. Oh, they're playing
- 5:14Speaker 3: in Puerto Rico.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Yea, yeah, they get to watch any of their stars,
- 5:18Speaker 1: think about their think about the dudes that are missing,
- 5:20Speaker 1: Like that are the staples.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Yeah, they mentioned it before.
- 5:23Speaker 1: It's Lindor, It's Korea, It's it is trouble, it's you
- 5:29Speaker 1: want to see the best.
- 5:31Speaker 2: That's That's where I'm at. I'm so I'm so sad
- 5:34Speaker 2: for Puerto Rico all they've been through in the last
- 5:36Speaker 2: five years. The country loves baseball and they've had to
- 5:39Speaker 2: rebuild after that massive hurricane, and like this is something
- 5:45Speaker 2: that brings the country together, but it also shines a
- 5:48Speaker 2: bright light on the country of Puerto Rico, the island
- 5:53Speaker 2: that doesn't get a lot of love in this In
- 5:55Speaker 2: this sense, you have Carlos Beltron going into the Hall
- 5:59Speaker 2: of That's a massive day, massive day.
- 6:02Speaker 3: You have.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Todd and I both played in San in San Juan,
- 6:07Speaker 2: Puerto Rico, in Ponce in I forget the other city
- 6:12Speaker 2: in Puerto Rico, and we have to play at Roberto
- 6:14Speaker 2: Clemente Stadium. Like there's a lot of history for baseball
- 6:19Speaker 2: in Puerto Rico and they got to host it this year.
- 6:21Speaker 2: They get to host it and like these games are
- 6:23Speaker 2: gonna be on TV and for them to not have
- 6:26Speaker 2: their best countrymen out there. I'm sad for it. I'm
- 6:30Speaker 2: sad for how it's played out. I'm not saying it's
- 6:33Speaker 2: fair or unfair. I'm just sad that the best guys
- 6:36Speaker 2: don't get to play. And it's only going to continue
- 6:40Speaker 2: because we had Miggey row on, Miguel Rojas on the
- 6:43Speaker 2: other day, and anybody over thirty seven years old gets
- 6:47Speaker 2: denied of insurance unless they change the unless they change
- 6:51Speaker 2: the rules coming up. And I'd have to look at
- 6:53Speaker 2: where guys are in their in their age. But if
- 6:58Speaker 2: you're thirty four this year, you're not gonna be able
- 7:00Speaker 2: to play in the next WBC. And it sucks because
- 7:03Speaker 2: these guys are gonna get to play at home. If
- 7:05Speaker 2: you've never been to winter ball, and I'm not saying
- 7:07Speaker 2: this is winter ball, this is a this is a
- 7:09Speaker 2: step up from winter ball, but winter ball. They just
- 7:12Speaker 2: want to see their team, They want to see their
- 7:14Speaker 2: countrymen play. They even love it when foreigners come to play.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I never played in Puerto Rico, but I play in
- 7:18Speaker 2: the dr They want to see it and it's super important.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and I hope they fix it next time around,
- 7:26Speaker 1: and there are fixes. We've gone over it already. You
- 7:28Speaker 1: can get other insurance coverage, not even just the player,
- 7:31Speaker 1: the federation, the league, whatever, everybody together could do that.
- 7:35Speaker 1: But it is what it is.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 7:38Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 7:40Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 7:41Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 7:45Speaker 1: So this is part two on a series called fam
- 7:48Speaker 1: Grafts as in Tommy Fam. There was an article out
- 7:51Speaker 1: about Tommy Fam mentioning certain ways where pirates batters had
- 7:57Speaker 1: it a little rougher than others, and a lot of
- 7:59Speaker 1: his points were pretty interesting and I personally thought some
- 8:03Speaker 1: of them were valid. Now there's more. But wait, Todd Father,
- 8:07Speaker 1: there's more. Tommy gets into it online and I love
- 8:11Speaker 1: when he's candid, So let's show you what we were
- 8:14Speaker 1: talking about here. He replied that in addition to all
- 8:17Speaker 1: of the points that he brought up last time, and
- 8:19Speaker 1: there's a video you can look up on foul Territory
- 8:21Speaker 1: to get it. But just to give you an example,
- 8:23Speaker 1: he talked about how they're all in all these close games,
- 8:25Speaker 1: the closers come in and shut them down, and they
- 8:27Speaker 1: did have more of those late and close situations against
- 8:31Speaker 1: closers versus the mop up man. All that, right, but
- 8:35Speaker 1: he goes on Twitter and he says that the Pirates
- 8:38Speaker 1: had a broken humidor that's not getting talked about. And
- 8:42Speaker 1: then Warmonger on Twitter said I hadn't heard that, and
- 8:45Speaker 1: he goes all season and Tommy said, we know, and yes,
- 8:50Speaker 1: Pittsburgh had a broken humidor that affected hitters negatively. I
- 8:54Speaker 1: was told they bought a new one, so should be
- 8:57Speaker 1: better next year as in this season. This was I
- 9:03Speaker 1: think in reply to Warmonger posting about teams hurt by
- 9:08Speaker 1: the best fielding against them in twenty twenty five, and
- 9:12Speaker 1: the team that was most hurt on that front was Pittsburgh.
- 9:17Speaker 1: So there it is. Fielding run value really really nice number.
- 9:22Speaker 1: They're thirty one against them, and I encourage you to
- 9:24Speaker 1: read the article in The Athletic to learn more about it.
- 9:26Speaker 1: But the part that the article didn't get to was
- 9:30Speaker 1: what Tommy threw out here after it was posted. It
- 9:32Speaker 1: was actually well after it was posted in the discussion
- 9:35Speaker 1: has continued Tommy's acted there. So what do you think
- 9:37Speaker 1: about the broken humidor conspiracy theory?
- 9:40Speaker 4: The first first time I've ever heard anything about it. Listen,
- 9:44Speaker 4: I Tommy fan is an intricate person. I think you
- 9:48Speaker 4: take what he says, and you don't take it lightly.
- 9:50Speaker 4: For one at least, that's what I do. I mean
- 9:52Speaker 4: from knowing him from playing against them. He's a serious dude,
- 9:55Speaker 4: but he'll also be funny in his own way. This
- 9:58Speaker 4: seems to be ideal, I mean, seems to be possible.
- 10:02Speaker 4: I mean, look at that field running rally. I mean,
- 10:04Speaker 4: that's it's up there on them.
- 10:06Speaker 1: So I do you believe the conspiracy theory about the humidor?
- 10:10Speaker 1: And if that's true? The big question I know that
- 10:13Speaker 1: Kratz is going to bring up is, yeah, it broken
- 10:16Speaker 1: all season where most of the season, I don't didn't
- 10:18Speaker 1: fix it. That's is that the pirate way?
- 10:21Speaker 3: Like?
- 10:21Speaker 4: Is that usually what happens. I wasn't long enough to
- 10:24Speaker 4: see a lot of stuff there. But if a ball
- 10:27Speaker 4: is not going to travel for me, I'm not gonna
- 10:28Speaker 4: be out. I want I want that damn o humidor,
- 10:31Speaker 4: you know. And so if I'm a hitter, I'm like, wow,
- 10:34Speaker 4: what the heck? I mean, thirteen feet is a good
- 10:37Speaker 4: distance you go from hitting a homer at you know,
- 10:39Speaker 4: three twenty five and then you hit it at three thirteen,
- 10:43Speaker 4: three twelve. You know, I don't know, I think baseball
- 10:46Speaker 4: is the same game at the end of the day.
- 10:48Speaker 4: But it is what it is. It's a dry atmosphere
- 10:52Speaker 4: in Pittsburgh anyway, So I don't they need all the
- 10:54Speaker 4: help they can get over there?
- 10:56Speaker 1: Krats, Can you explain this?
- 10:58Speaker 2: The humid door used to just be in places like Colorado,
- 11:03Speaker 2: places like Arizona. The fact that Major League Baseball mandated
- 11:09Speaker 2: that every team get a humidor, I think they're still
- 11:12Speaker 2: trying to figure it out. They're tweaking it so that
- 11:16Speaker 2: each park plays similar. That's the reason that every team
- 11:19Speaker 2: got human doors at every team has the same quote
- 11:25Speaker 2: Baseball's And if the fact that the humid door was broken,
- 11:30Speaker 2: I don't necessarily blame the Pirates. You can see I'm
- 11:33Speaker 2: a pirate fan. I had my Pirate jersey there and everything.
- 11:35Speaker 2: It's super neat of me. Look at me, pirate fan,
- 11:38Speaker 2: pirate fan, pirate fan. But I don't think it's the
- 11:41Speaker 2: Pirates being cheap because the humid door. From what I
- 11:45Speaker 2: was told yesterday, I think that's when I first saw
- 11:48Speaker 2: the article. Major League Baseball pays for these humid doors.
- 11:52Speaker 2: So is major League Baseball coming in and checking the
- 11:55Speaker 2: humid door every time? And if they are, then why
- 12:00Speaker 2: did they not replace it if they aren't our teams
- 12:03Speaker 2: manipulating their humidor a little bit. And like this whole
- 12:07Speaker 2: fielding runs value, I've never seen this, Like fielding runs
- 12:11Speaker 2: against I've never seen it because everybody plays the same teams.
- 12:16Speaker 2: It's not like the Pirates were the most unlucky because
- 12:20Speaker 2: other teams were making great plays against them. But the
- 12:23Speaker 2: Reds were also there. So who do they both play?
- 12:26Speaker 2: Can you show that list again, please, Jair, so I
- 12:28Speaker 2: can see the list because I know the Reds were
- 12:29Speaker 2: second Pirates in the Reds both play the Brewers and
- 12:34Speaker 2: the Cubs, who are really good defensively. And then you
- 12:38Speaker 2: go down the list there the Phillies were in the playoffs,
- 12:41Speaker 2: the Padres are in the playoffs, the Red Sox were
- 12:43Speaker 2: in the playoffs. You know that's top ten, so it's
- 12:46Speaker 2: not necessarily winning or losing. But I think it's part
- 12:49Speaker 2: of a case that Tommy's Tommy's looking for a job,
- 12:52Speaker 2: and anything that's dinged his numbers from being just a
- 12:57Speaker 2: little bit below or quite a bit below his career numbers.
- 13:01Speaker 2: He has a valid excuse. And the dude's smart. He
- 13:03Speaker 2: is very well educated on what goes on in these games,
- 13:08Speaker 2: and you know he should have a job by this time, agreed.
- 13:15Speaker 4: And I didn't even know about the humidor thing until
- 13:18Speaker 4: we brought this up today.
- 13:19Speaker 3: You didn't know about it at all at all.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I had no You never knew that there was a
- 13:22Speaker 1: human or like, even back when it first became a
- 13:26Speaker 1: thing in Colorado.
- 13:27Speaker 3: And then I just went way over my head.
- 13:29Speaker 4: I had no clue that you know, the balls are
- 13:32Speaker 4: being I thought it was just for Ceagars.
- 13:35Speaker 1: You played with rats, and he didn't tell you who Kratz.
- 13:39Speaker 1: You didn't tell him about the humidor.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I told him so, I told him, but he wasn't listening.
- 13:45Speaker 2: He doesn't listen to me, Todd.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I was looking for that sizzler in Puerto Rico that
- 13:51Speaker 3: we win.
- 13:53Speaker 1: All right, Well, this is interesting, So I like Tommy
- 13:56Speaker 1: just adding the yeah, I'm conspiracy theory. It's probably true.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I don't think he would just make that up totally.
- 14:04Speaker 3: He never does. He's very very.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Tommy's not gonna Tommy's not gonna make something look like
- 14:10Speaker 2: he's He's very much black and white. Tommy is black
- 14:13Speaker 2: and white when he plays, when he's on your team,
- 14:16Speaker 2: when he plays against you, when you're not even playing
- 14:18Speaker 2: against him. Like I saw him in Pittsburgh in April
- 14:21Speaker 2: this year and he introduced me to his mom and
- 14:25Speaker 2: he's like my mom biggest fan. But she's also the
- 14:29Speaker 2: toughest on me. There's no like, oh, it's so great
- 14:32Speaker 2: to be here. And she looks at me and she goes,
- 14:34Speaker 2: you're right, somebody needs.
- 14:36Speaker 3: To be tough on him.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And I'm like, whoa, this is coming in Like, it's
- 14:41Speaker 2: just I don't think he's making this up. He's not
- 14:43Speaker 2: gonna make this up. He's very directed. You'll say he
- 14:46Speaker 2: didn't have a good season, or he said he has
- 14:48Speaker 2: a great season.
- 15:00Speaker 3: You like the opens. Who's the guy with that's Michael
- 15:03Speaker 3: Stop Stop, Wow.
- 15:06Speaker 1: We might have to do a segment on Michael right now.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Michael, Michael Beer behind.
- 15:11Speaker 4: The Oh my god, you gave him some love. Go
- 15:15Speaker 4: for you, Mike God the show. It took me by stormy.
- 15:20Speaker 3: It was different.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Well, let's get to the padres. Uh. There was a
- 15:27Speaker 1: story two days ago about how the family court battle
- 15:32Speaker 1: with the late Peter Sidler's widow and then the brothers
- 15:36Speaker 1: and all that kind of got settled to an extent
- 15:39Speaker 1: so that they can keep rolling. Appears to be over.
- 15:43Speaker 1: But here's the next layer that's important, more relevant. The
- 15:48Speaker 1: Padres are for sale and they're looking and one of
- 15:53Speaker 1: the big names that was brought up is the owner
- 15:55Speaker 1: of the Warriors, Joe lacam who's on the team. Since
- 16:01Speaker 1: you know, the most valuable NBA franchise, it's a layup question.
- 16:07Speaker 1: The layup question.
- 16:09Speaker 3: No, I just said it. Oh didn't they?
- 16:11Speaker 1: At least this article said the Warriors. Is that wrong?
- 16:14Speaker 3: I don't.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I always think, yeah, I think that's the most valuable.
- 16:19Speaker 3: I'm not the most valuable franchise in the league after
- 16:24Speaker 3: winning four NBA titles.
- 16:25Speaker 1: At least, you know, And these estimates, it all depends
- 16:27Speaker 1: on what you sell for, right, But the estimates here
- 16:30Speaker 1: is this Forbes usually eleven Bill Warriors, ten Bill Lakers.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Knicks are right behind around that number as well. But
- 16:37Speaker 1: the point is he built that franchise into a powerhouse.
- 16:41Speaker 1: And sure you got some talent around it, there's no doubt,
- 16:44Speaker 1: But it takes more than that. There are teams with
- 16:47Speaker 1: talent that can't figure it out. Our culture, yeah, our
- 16:51Speaker 1: sports had Trout and Otani on the same team.
- 16:53Speaker 3: How'd that go?
- 16:54Speaker 1: So anyway, initial bids are expected near the end of
- 16:58Speaker 1: this month, and the Athletic is reporting that the Padres
- 17:02Speaker 1: are seeking about three billion dollars. Three billion dollars record
- 17:08Speaker 1: sale in baseball is two point four to two bill.
- 17:10Speaker 1: That's when Steve Cohen bought the Mets in twenty twenty.
- 17:13Speaker 1: So even if they fall well short of the three bill,
- 17:16Speaker 1: there's a big gap between two four to two and three,
- 17:20Speaker 1: So it looks like they'll get a number that is
- 17:22Speaker 1: a record in the sport. Forbes estimates the team's worth
- 17:25Speaker 1: right now at one point nine to five bill. They're
- 17:28Speaker 1: asking for a little more, and I think they're going
- 17:30Speaker 1: to get a little more.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Where does all that money go to?
- 17:32Speaker 1: That goes to the owner's pockets? Oh, you're saying, like
- 17:36Speaker 1: who in the family. No, it's split around. He left
- 17:38Speaker 1: it to a bunch of them. That's what the fight
- 17:40Speaker 1: was over. So it gets funny.
- 17:42Speaker 3: You just want to give me, you want to give
- 17:44Speaker 3: me one? In a little bit, I'll take five. You're
- 17:46Speaker 3: not in. You're not in?
- 17:47Speaker 1: I got that word. You know it's funny.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I'll take point five.
- 17:51Speaker 1: They have this AI text thing that automatically already sent
- 17:54Speaker 1: me Todd's not in, sugar.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Yeah, man, I can make I can make my own
- 18:00Speaker 4: New Jersey major League team.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, well that's actually part of the story too.
- 18:05Speaker 1: See Todd and me are doing a bit here. People
- 18:08Speaker 1: are worried that the team's gonna move again. And because
- 18:11Speaker 1: remember it's part of this legal battle at one point
- 18:14Speaker 1: that that was thrown out there by a think her
- 18:16Speaker 1: named Shiel, the widow of Peter Sidler. That's not happening. Okay,
- 18:21Speaker 1: I'm not going to act like I know everything, but
- 18:24Speaker 1: that sounds like legal bs in. This article from Dennis
- 18:27Speaker 1: Lynn and The Athletic helps to confirm that even if
- 18:30Speaker 1: someone like Joe Laika buys the team, despite his ties
- 18:33Speaker 1: to the Bay Area, he's not moving the team. The
- 18:36Speaker 1: team would be in San Diego. The Padres are a
- 18:39Speaker 1: powerhouse business wise, so they're staying where they're staying.
- 18:43Speaker 2: The he did move a team already. He moved his team,
- 18:49Speaker 2: the Warrior. Yeah, they left Oakland, right.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I think this is a different situation. Yes, I don't
- 18:58Speaker 1: think what Padres to San Francisco by the way he
- 19:02Speaker 1: has taken. They have a team, they're called the Giants.
- 19:04Speaker 1: What fans want to know, long way of getting to this,
- 19:07Speaker 1: What fans want to know is how does this affect me?
- 19:09Speaker 1: And for me Kratz, it always depends on who the
- 19:11Speaker 1: team gets sold to. But if it ends up with
- 19:14Speaker 1: a guy like Joe Leko, who has deep pockets, I
- 19:16Speaker 1: think this would be a plus for Padres fans. They
- 19:19Speaker 1: have had a really fun run. They haven't won a
- 19:21Speaker 1: World Series, but I think it's a fun run for
- 19:24Speaker 1: the Padres. They have become very relevant. I felt like
- 19:26Speaker 1: they were much less relevant for a long time. Peter
- 19:29Speaker 1: Siler pumped money into this team and made it an
- 19:32Speaker 1: entertaining ballpark experience in a variety of ways. That includes
- 19:35Speaker 1: getting superstars, but it's not the only thing. He did
- 19:37Speaker 1: a really really nice job building this team up, and
- 19:40Speaker 1: then once he's gone, that's when you usually have the
- 19:43Speaker 1: issues someone else taking over that might not want it.
- 19:46Speaker 1: It looks like this family has recognized that their best
- 19:50Speaker 1: to sell it and let someone else have it be
- 19:52Speaker 1: their baby. So if it ends up with a guy
- 19:54Speaker 1: like the Warriors runner, I don't know a ton about him,
- 19:56Speaker 1: but I'd be pretty pumped if I'm a Padres fan,
- 19:58Speaker 1: because in the past year or so, they've had to
- 19:59Speaker 1: pump the breaks a little bit on the way that
- 20:01Speaker 1: they were spending.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent. They've had to.
- 20:05Speaker 2: I mean, when you hear the rumors where there's smoke,
- 20:08Speaker 2: there's fire, where that is, you don't know. But with
- 20:11Speaker 2: Aj Pereler, he's never afraid of trying to win. I
- 20:16Speaker 2: was there in sixteen in spring training, and you know,
- 20:19Speaker 2: they had to kind of take a step back. They
- 20:23Speaker 2: you know, they did the whole Kimbrel out of their trade,
- 20:25Speaker 2: but they still had some other pieces with Kemp and Upton,
- 20:28Speaker 2: you know, so there's been transition. But ever since then,
- 20:32Speaker 2: it has been like, hey, we're here to win, and
- 20:36Speaker 2: a new ownership's gonna have to navigate a difficult time.
- 20:39Speaker 2: They're gonna have to navigate a difficult time. But I
- 20:42Speaker 2: think the the cachet, the street cred that they've developed
- 20:48Speaker 2: in San Diego now the only professional sports team, major
- 20:52Speaker 2: professional sports team down there is is huge, and I
- 20:56Speaker 2: think this next ownership is going to have to navigate
- 20:59Speaker 2: a thirty eight thirty nine year old Manny Machado, a
- 21:03Speaker 2: thirty eight to thirty nine year old Xander Bogart, a
- 21:07Speaker 2: post ped Fernando Tatis. How's he gonna age? You know,
- 21:12Speaker 2: they're gonna have to navigate that and I think an
- 21:14Speaker 2: ownership that has had success in the NBA, it's just
- 21:19Speaker 2: about building a culture. It's about building a and continuing
- 21:22Speaker 2: to build that culture. Can you win every year? No,
- 21:25Speaker 2: If you have the drive to win every year, you're
- 21:29Speaker 2: just gonna give the fans a much better fan experience,
- 21:33Speaker 2: which right now, I'm gonna say the Padres fan experience,
- 21:37Speaker 2: the actual game day experience, is the best in the game.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'm not going to argue that. I'm not going to agree,
- 21:47Speaker 1: but I'm not gonna argue they're definitely in the top.
- 21:49Speaker 1: They're up there.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it is a fun experience, top five easy. I
- 21:53Speaker 1: agree with you with this Lakeup guy too. Again, I
- 21:56Speaker 1: don't know a ton about him.
- 21:57Speaker 5: I love this lake Up guy, Like, just like this billionaire.
- 22:02Speaker 1: He's tried to buy teams. He's trying to buy the A's,
- 22:06Speaker 1: the Angels and the Dodgers, you know what I've been
- 22:10Speaker 1: So does the league not want him? Is he going
- 22:12Speaker 1: to be falling out too much?
- 22:14Speaker 3: I don't know the stuff. I don't I've been watching
- 22:17Speaker 3: Shark Tank lately. Yeah, and I don't know why. I
- 22:21Speaker 3: just got off the standard.
- 22:22Speaker 4: But my wife and I have been like on this
- 22:24Speaker 4: kick and the money and these money the people are
- 22:26Speaker 4: just throwing out there.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Yeah, they're gonna get over one point nine to five.
- 22:30Speaker 4: I don't care if it's the Padres or you know,
- 22:34Speaker 4: the Hack and sack Raiders. I don't care who it is.
- 22:38Speaker 4: But listen, Brewsters millions, it's Brewsters billions.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. I just like, how I'm ready
- 22:45Speaker 1: for something. I've been watching shock Man.
- 22:48Speaker 4: They're talking about guy asked for a million dollars the
- 22:51Speaker 4: other day for two point five percent equity in the business.
- 22:54Speaker 3: They're like, what are you doing here?
- 22:55Speaker 1: Bro?
- 22:57Speaker 4: I can go on about it. It's a fun show.
- 22:59Speaker 4: I would love to be on that. Pitch something Todd.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Do you do you go after the show's over, do
- 23:06Speaker 2: you go and type in the name of the company
- 23:08Speaker 2: to see how they did?
- 23:11Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 23:11Speaker 4: I tried. Yeah, we've done it before. We we were
- 23:14Speaker 4: gonna order something. We're gonna order something, and then they weren't.
- 23:17Speaker 4: There was no company three years ago.
- 23:20Speaker 3: It's good.
- 23:21Speaker 1: It's good when you watch an old one. I've done that. Yeah,
- 23:24Speaker 1: that's what you're talking about, right, Krats. When you watch
- 23:26Speaker 1: an old one and they're hyping it up like it
- 23:28Speaker 1: is the next big thing in life and it's like
- 23:31Speaker 1: a seven year old episode and you go and it
- 23:33Speaker 1: goes er four or four.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Site doesn't so it doesn't.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Exit, and that the first thing that pops up on
- 23:39Speaker 1: Google is how this company went into nothing after Shark Tank.
- 23:44Speaker 5: It's not blaming shark Tank. They're just saying this guy,
- 23:48Speaker 5: this guy on Shark Tank. But hey, I hope he
- 23:52Speaker 5: wins it if that's what he wants. But I feel
- 23:54Speaker 5: like it's gonna be a lot more than one point
- 23:55Speaker 5: nine five it is.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Yeah, they want three, so there's a big gap.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Between still negotiating.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it's gonna finish as the top sail ever, it'll
- 24:05Speaker 1: top going on in basic money, they don't. They don't.
- 24:10Speaker 1: They're only going to get like two and a half
- 24:12Speaker 1: billion dollars.
- 24:15Speaker 3: There's a lot of business good difference.
- 24:17Speaker 1: That's why we have a show.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Difference between profit and revenue.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Okay, Scott, I can't wait to learn all about that.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Business one one.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Yeah, we should get a guest on to teach me
- 24:28Speaker 1: about that.
- 24:28Speaker 3: All right.
- 24:29Speaker 1: While we're on business one oh one, the Saint Louis
- 24:32Speaker 1: Cardinals are moving off of the Regional Sports Networks FanDuel
- 24:37Speaker 1: Sports Networks, which is run by a company Main Street
- 24:41Speaker 1: full disclosure. We used to be on that channel too,
- 24:44Speaker 1: but that channel is in trouble right now.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:47Speaker 1: So there was a report out there that the Cardinals
- 24:50Speaker 1: were going to make like forty million less this year
- 24:53Speaker 1: in TV money. Katie wou to the rescue part of
- 24:56Speaker 1: Dodgers territory but also former Cardinals reporter for the f Athletic,
- 25:01Speaker 1: and she put out clarifying figures yesterday. She said Cardinals
- 25:06Speaker 1: TV revenue expected to see roughly forty mil under the
- 25:10Speaker 1: MLB model, opposed to the roughly sixty they expected last year.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Unlike step fees with Vandal Sports Network, MLB broadcast revenue
- 25:17Speaker 1: is based on subscriptions and ad sales. To me, I
- 25:21Speaker 1: don't want to say it's like a sigh of relief,
- 25:23Speaker 1: but forty versus twenty twenty, I'm like, okay, I mean,
- 25:28Speaker 1: much more doable. Plus they've gutted a lot of their
- 25:32Speaker 1: roster in a rebuild, so they're not in trouble by
- 25:35Speaker 1: any means in any way. Right, They've got money to
- 25:38Speaker 1: spend if they want it. They're going through a rebuild situation.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I think forty looks like a big number. Twenty You're like, okay,
- 25:44Speaker 1: that was more of what I would have expected them
- 25:46Speaker 1: to go down, from a money guarantee to more of
- 25:49Speaker 1: a percentage model. Here with MLB, which you know is
- 25:54Speaker 1: I will say, getting a ton of teams pretty last minute.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Yet again, yeah, hopefully they don't they don't screw that up.
- 26:00Speaker 2: But here's here's one for you. They're gonna get their
- 26:02Speaker 2: money based on subscriptions, just like you get your money
- 26:05Speaker 2: based on ticket sales. Why do people come to games
- 26:09Speaker 2: because you're putting a good product on the field. So
- 26:11Speaker 2: here's a mind blower. You want more from your TV revenue.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Put a good team out there. Don't got your whole team?
- 26:19Speaker 2: And I know the Cardinals have to gut their team
- 26:21Speaker 2: because that's the route that they're going. I like Heim
- 26:24Speaker 2: Bloom all that stuff, But gee, if everybody goes to
- 26:28Speaker 2: a subscription, who do I want to buy a subscription to?
- 26:33Speaker 1: Oh?
- 26:33Speaker 2: The Cardinals? Yeah they have stuff. Lars newtbar and Alec Burlson, Uh,
- 26:40Speaker 2: maybe I'll wait.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Till next year. Mason win Win and Mason win.
- 26:46Speaker 2: And Jordan Walker like to me like I almost kind
- 26:50Speaker 2: of like it. Like it's like do you want to
- 26:52Speaker 2: work hourly or do you want to work based on
- 26:55Speaker 2: the business that you bring in, because if you if
- 26:57Speaker 2: you hustle, if you're a baller, and you ball out
- 27:01Speaker 2: the business you bring in, you're always in sales, you're
- 27:03Speaker 2: always gonna make more than you are hourly. Or you
- 27:06Speaker 2: just want to kind of glaze along and just hope
- 27:09Speaker 2: people buy subscriptions to watch your team play on TV. No,
- 27:12Speaker 2: Cardinals fans, they're loyal and they are die hard. They
- 27:16Speaker 2: love their team. But if you don't put an effort
- 27:19Speaker 2: out there, blue collar people ain't gonna come out. Just
- 27:21Speaker 2: not gonna happen.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I think a lot of Cardinals fans are okay with
- 27:26Speaker 1: like a one year reset that's going on right now
- 27:29Speaker 1: where they're kind of carding. No you think they should
- 27:34Speaker 1: have pushed chips in this year.
- 27:36Speaker 2: No, no, no, no. I'm just saying that's the Cardinals have
- 27:39Speaker 2: never had to do that.
- 27:40Speaker 3: I know years.
- 27:41Speaker 2: I mean, it's like a twenty year reign of the Cardinals.
- 27:44Speaker 2: They've never had to do that. So I don't know
- 27:46Speaker 2: if they're okay with it, like they just they've they've
- 27:50Speaker 2: had a winning team for so long that for me
- 27:54Speaker 2: to say the Cardinals fans are okay with it, I'd
- 27:56Speaker 2: have a hard time believing it. But hey, I hope
- 27:58Speaker 2: Cardinals fans say, y'all tell me we're totally fine with it.
- 28:03Speaker 1: I'm just going off, you know, the little crowd online
- 28:08Speaker 1: that's like.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Hey, we need to reset, Okay, reset.
- 28:13Speaker 1: I don't love it.
- 28:14Speaker 3: A long year.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it is going to be a long year. Hey,
- 28:17Speaker 1: let's get to a trade. It was yesterday. We're not
- 28:21Speaker 1: breaking anything. Crazy Blaze Alexander of the Diamondbacks now of
- 28:27Speaker 1: the Baltimore Orioles, perhaps a top ten team in todd
- 28:32Speaker 1: Father's mind. To bring this show full circle, two minor
- 28:35Speaker 1: leaguers heading back, including one who apparently is a stuff
- 28:40Speaker 1: plus machine Wellington Arasina, but it's a utility infielder for Baltimore.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Gives them a little uh, a little depth. Sorry. The
- 28:51Speaker 1: stuff plus monster is Cage Stroud. By the way, he
- 28:54Speaker 1: was a top bullpen candidate for the Orioles. So that
- 28:56Speaker 1: one actually made me a little curious. You know something
- 28:59Speaker 1: that we don't because from Baltimore and I want to
- 29:02Speaker 1: compete again this year. You gotta have a money bullpen
- 29:07Speaker 1: to me, Kratz, I know we talk a lot about
- 29:09Speaker 1: their starting pitching, and I'm sure they're going to sign someone,
- 29:11Speaker 1: it might not be the someone that fans were dreaming of.
- 29:15Speaker 1: There could be some concern with the bullpen too. I
- 29:18Speaker 1: think everybody's looking at a team right now like this
- 29:21Speaker 1: offense should bang, This should be a top five offense
- 29:24Speaker 1: in the sport, but the pitching is a question mark.
- 29:26Speaker 1: So we'll see what the bullpen looks like for them.
- 29:30Speaker 2: I like that it's the Orioles and Diamondbacks my two
- 29:33Speaker 2: favorite teams to take the over this year because both
- 29:36Speaker 2: teams have massive questions in the bullpen. I mean, you're
- 29:40Speaker 2: talking about an Orioles team that had, you know, Danny Kooloom,
- 29:44Speaker 2: who's been an incredible lefty. They had the Mountain Felix Baptista,
- 29:48Speaker 2: they had your near Cano like and now they have
- 29:52Speaker 2: Hellsley as their closer, who you know, you hope he
- 29:56Speaker 2: didn't take what he brought from the Mets over to
- 29:59Speaker 2: the Orioles. You hope he he's the Cardinals closer, and
- 30:01Speaker 2: I think he will be because the closer role is
- 30:05Speaker 2: what got taken away from him when he went to
- 30:06Speaker 2: the Mets, and I just I think he'll slide in
- 30:10Speaker 2: there fine, but it's really gonna have to be a
- 30:13Speaker 2: it's gonna have to be all hands on deck for
- 30:15Speaker 2: that bullpen. But I love this for Blaize Alexander. I
- 30:18Speaker 2: think this was one of the reasons that they were
- 30:19Speaker 2: okay originally getting rid of kateel Marte, not because he
- 30:25Speaker 2: was going to be the starter, but because they were
- 30:27Speaker 2: still gonna be able to have Blaze bouncing around and
- 30:31Speaker 2: they were gonna hopefully bring in Jordan Lawler. And anytime
- 30:35Speaker 2: a guy is kind of like getting his feet wet
- 30:36Speaker 2: in the league, I think he almost had like a
- 30:38Speaker 2: two war last year as a utility guy. He was
- 30:42Speaker 2: going to play a major role. So they didn't get
- 30:44Speaker 2: rid of kateel Marte. They still have Jordan Lawler, and
- 30:48Speaker 2: they got Nolan Eronado, and it's like Heraldo Perdomo is
- 30:52Speaker 2: gonna play every day. So I love this for him
- 30:56Speaker 2: and his career. How he fits into Baltimore, that'll be
- 30:59Speaker 2: Craig Alberna and those boys over there fitting him into
- 31:03Speaker 2: the rotation. But anytime you get a utility guy that
- 31:06Speaker 2: can play short, can play third, can play second, like
- 31:10Speaker 2: I hope, it's a better situation for him. But they
- 31:13Speaker 2: also have dudes over there that want to play every
- 31:15Speaker 2: single day with Westburg and Gunner Henderson and Jackson Holliday.
- 31:19Speaker 2: It's tough to be a utility guy when the whole
- 31:22Speaker 2: infield is young and nobody replacing Pete Alonzo at first base.
- 31:26Speaker 2: That man's playing one hundred and sixty three if.
- 31:28Speaker 1: You let him, no, that's right, but he'll be a
- 31:31Speaker 1: super utility bounce all around. And even though it's crowded
- 31:35Speaker 1: in Baltimore, maybe a little bit more of an opening
- 31:38Speaker 1: when you look at Arizona, it's like those dudes are
- 31:40Speaker 1: going to play every day again, health permitting, but they've
- 31:45Speaker 1: got an everyday set over there as well, so well trade,
- 31:49Speaker 1: we'll see what it looks like. And good call. He
- 31:51Speaker 1: it was almost a two win player on Baseball Reference war,
- 31:54Speaker 1: so I'm sure Baltimore was interested in that, intrigued by that.
- 31:58Speaker 1: In good Friarzona, you get a bullpen arm. Congratulations to
- 32:13Speaker 1: one of my favorite broadcasters, Buck Martinez announces his retirement,
- 32:19Speaker 1: and man, he's called a ton of games. He is
- 32:23Speaker 1: a great dude, he is so dialed in. He's a
- 32:27Speaker 1: baseball lifer. So congratulations to him.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Said that now, so kind of late in the year,
- 32:35Speaker 3: might have been what do you mean?
- 32:37Speaker 4: I felt like like after the year ended, go out
- 32:41Speaker 4: and you know, maybe I don't know. All good either way.
- 32:45Speaker 4: Congratulations to Buck. Great guy, great great person. We talk
- 32:50Speaker 4: about Jersey all the time and his roots and everything,
- 32:53Speaker 4: and he just he has an understanding of the game
- 32:55Speaker 4: which most broadcasters, well some broadcasters don't, but he has
- 32:59Speaker 4: this inkling have been there before I had done it,
- 33:02Speaker 4: and old school kind of fashion, and he's not afraid
- 33:05Speaker 4: to tell it how it is. So you walk off
- 33:07Speaker 4: into the sunshine and enjoy a little bit of beach
- 33:10Speaker 4: time wherever you're going.
