- 0:00Speaker 1: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 0:03Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 0:07Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 0:11Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 0:15Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 0:19Speaker 1: Donald J.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Trump's leadership.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm Christy nom the United States Secretary of Homeland Security.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Under President Trump, attempted illegal border crossings are at the
- 0:29Speaker 1: lowest levels ever recorded, and over one hundred thousand illegal
- 0:33Speaker 1: aliens have been arrested. If you are here illegally, your
- 0:37Speaker 1: next you will be fined nearly one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned,
- 0:41Speaker 1: and deported.
- 0:42Speaker 2: You will never return.
- 0:44Speaker 1: But if you register using our CBP home app and
- 0:47Speaker 1: leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Do what's right. Leave now.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Under President Trump, America's laws, border and families will be protected.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 1:00Speaker 4: You're representing him, and now you're working on a professional
- 1:03Speaker 4: career as well. Right at the point where he's about
- 1:06Speaker 4: to come back.
- 1:06Speaker 5: Exactly Wow, and the agent you took a test to
- 1:09Speaker 5: think test right, Okay, so you become an agent. You
- 1:14Speaker 5: said that he doesn't get an extension, right, So now
- 1:18Speaker 5: he's a free agent at that point in time.
- 1:20Speaker 6: So yeah, one more year on this contract, which was
- 1:23Speaker 6: an option year.
- 1:25Speaker 7: Yeah he played that.
- 1:26Speaker 6: Yea, that would have been the twenty two to twenty
- 1:28Speaker 6: three was his option year.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Yeah, so he took the option. He played, and then
- 1:33Speaker 4: we saw traded traded to Dallas.
- 1:35Speaker 7: But he got traded mid season.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, he got traded. But so as that process
- 1:41Speaker 4: is happening, that's on the court. But Nike, I mean,
- 1:45Speaker 4: this is a premier athlete. Like we went over, there's
- 1:47Speaker 4: obviously Jordan and Jordan Brand and then it's Kobe and
- 1:51Speaker 4: then it's like Lebron Kai kd. What are those conversations
- 1:57Speaker 4: like because this is one of the premier athletes, his
- 1:58Speaker 4: uncle Drew, this is the top selling shoe.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Kids love it.
- 2:01Speaker 6: His shoes were still selling. At the same time the
- 2:05Speaker 6: shoes were still selling. We were in conversations, well, we
- 2:12Speaker 6: hadn't really started at that point about what the next
- 2:14Speaker 6: steps would be, if he was going to remain a
- 2:18Speaker 6: signature athlete or not, in what way they wanted to
- 2:23Speaker 6: continue that. We hadn't even started that yet his shoes were.
- 2:26Speaker 7: So they're definitely on board, We're.
- 2:28Speaker 6: Already I wouldn't say they were fully on board. I
- 2:31Speaker 6: think that internally, like within every company, everybody had issues
- 2:35Speaker 6: with there were people that were, I'm pro vaccination and
- 2:39Speaker 6: people that were I'm anti vaccination, and so I think
- 2:43Speaker 6: that probably within and I don't know this to be true,
- 2:45Speaker 6: within those Nike walls, there were people that said, Hey,
- 2:49Speaker 6: you're forcing me to get vaccinated, but you have a
- 2:52Speaker 6: signature athlete that isn't vaccinated. What kind of messaging is
- 2:56Speaker 6: that sending. So I'm sure you know everybody, it was
- 2:59Speaker 6: a full coal time for every company, just having the
- 3:04Speaker 6: conversation about vaccine versus non vaccination.
- 3:08Speaker 5: So he makes it through that and now he's playing
- 3:15Speaker 5: for the nets, and then something else happens. So he
- 3:18Speaker 5: shares a link to a documentary and that causes another
- 3:22Speaker 5: firestorm and he gets suspended indefinitely. And okay, so now
- 3:30Speaker 5: NBA punishing the broken nets, punishing them. But now the
- 3:36Speaker 5: Nike situation starts to unravel because now Nike at some
- 3:42Speaker 5: point steps away from him. Right, was he up for
- 3:48Speaker 5: a new contract or did they just terminate the current contract?
- 3:52Speaker 5: He was up for a new contract. It just so
- 3:54Speaker 5: happened out timing was at the same time at the
- 3:57Speaker 5: same time, So they didn't technically terminate him. They just
- 3:59Speaker 5: didn't knew They did nothing essentially, Yeah, to extend that
- 4:02Speaker 5: contract essentially, how was okay? So how was that? That
- 4:07Speaker 5: was another obviously very high profile news story. How was
- 4:12Speaker 5: that for you and for him going through that?
- 4:16Speaker 6: I think what he wanted and perhaps what he would
- 4:21Speaker 6: have wanted from Nike, I don't know if Nike would
- 4:23Speaker 6: have been able to give it to him, because he
- 4:26Speaker 6: wanted a lot more creative control, he wanted a lot
- 4:32Speaker 6: more equity, he wanted higher commission, like there were there
- 4:35Speaker 6: were things that he wanted that I honestly think that
- 4:39Speaker 6: just was not within Nike's ecosystem to provide or to give.
- 4:44Speaker 4: So, regardless of the situation it was Nike, he still
- 4:47Speaker 4: not might have been home for you guys anyway exactly.
- 4:50Speaker 7: Yeah. I think he tweeted and said that he didn't
- 4:51Speaker 7: like to shoot they had put.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Out it was a deniging, uh the Eights.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Yeah, but how but how was the from getting suspended?
- 5:03Speaker 7: How is that dealing? Once again? Now you gotta deal
- 5:05Speaker 7: with the Brooklyn nuts, you gotta deal with the NBA.
- 5:07Speaker 5: He had to go meet with the commissioner and a
- 5:10Speaker 5: bunch of others, tough community service and different things at HLA.
- 5:13Speaker 5: How is that because he just went through something previously
- 5:16Speaker 5: with COVID, now he's going something going through something completely different,
- 5:20Speaker 5: but another thing less than a year later.
- 5:23Speaker 7: So how was that for you guys going through that difficult?
- 5:28Speaker 6: It was. It was a very very difficult moment and
- 5:34Speaker 6: I think that to really dev into.
- 5:38Speaker 4: This episode is brought to you by P and C Bank.

- 8:21Speaker 1: Under President Trump, America's laws, border and families will.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Be protected sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 8:28Speaker 6: To that detail, I don't want him to be here
- 8:30Speaker 6: to really talk it through because there was so many
- 8:34Speaker 6: nuances there that I think when you really hear the
- 8:39Speaker 6: real story behind it, it'll make it'll make your jaw drop.
- 8:44Speaker 4: You have probably one of the most intensifying first years
- 8:48Speaker 4: on the job very much. Maybe ever right you're talking
- 8:50Speaker 4: about that the shoe contract negotiation and be a contract negotiation,
- 8:54Speaker 4: suspensions world, pandemics like all that's happening in your first year.
- 9:00Speaker 4: So we're at the point where you know, we're looking
- 9:02Speaker 4: at from a financial standpoint, and some of the things
- 9:05Speaker 4: that you want from a shoe deal, it's.
- 9:07Speaker 7: Not going to happen. Perhaps that night.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Are other shoe companies reaching out and offering because I
- 9:13Speaker 4: know we land and we'll get to that. Are other
- 9:15Speaker 4: shoe companies reaching out and saying, this is a prize
- 9:18Speaker 4: free agent. From an athletic endorsement standpoint, we should go
- 9:22Speaker 4: ahead and try to sign them.
- 9:24Speaker 6: Initially, we wanted to go independent, okay, And we had
- 9:29Speaker 6: a lot of conversations with being a real independent shoe brand,
- 9:36Speaker 6: and I sort of made the decision collectively with his
- 9:42Speaker 6: dad that that probably wasn't the best route because building
- 9:47Speaker 6: a shoe and building a performance shoe on the court
- 9:52Speaker 6: where his feet are your most valuable asset, was something
- 9:57Speaker 6: that we were just really worried about from just being
- 9:59Speaker 6: an dependent brand, just having all of the resources, the
- 10:03Speaker 6: tools and everything to make sure that his feet were protected.
- 10:07Speaker 6: We want him to have a very long career, and
- 10:09Speaker 6: so we didn't want to jump out and say, hey,
- 10:11Speaker 6: we're going to do this independent and we produce a
- 10:14Speaker 6: shoe that just couldn't.
- 10:16Speaker 5: Stand well you did you ever look at the big
- 10:20Speaker 5: ball of brand and what happened with that as something.
- 10:23Speaker 4: That was as you said, that study, because I mean
- 10:27Speaker 4: they said that, I don't know if it's true or not.
- 10:29Speaker 7: Shout out to Lonzo.
- 10:29Speaker 5: He came to investments, but they say one of the
- 10:32Speaker 5: reasons why he's hurt is because of the shoe. I
- 10:34Speaker 5: don't know if that's true.
- 10:35Speaker 7: It broke down. I don't know.
- 10:36Speaker 6: I don't know, and you know, I don't I just
- 10:39Speaker 6: I think that when you think about performance and the
- 10:42Speaker 6: way he moves in the angles in which he moves
- 10:45Speaker 6: on the court. And remember I talked about, you know,
- 10:47Speaker 6: your research and you study, being independent and just basically
- 10:52Speaker 6: producing a shoe that can achieve that mechanism was something
- 10:56Speaker 6: that we all were really concerned about. There's something that
- 11:00Speaker 6: you can kind of build a plane while flying it.
- 11:03Speaker 6: This wasn't one of them, and this was one of
- 11:05Speaker 6: them that we just didn't want to take that that
- 11:07Speaker 6: that chance on and that's just being honest.
- 11:10Speaker 4: So you end up with at Edna right, No, Ante,
- 11:17Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Answa. And so this is interest it because
- 11:22Speaker 4: this is now I'm looking at this as a global play,
- 11:25Speaker 4: right like they have at the time. Well, Dwayne Wade
- 11:27Speaker 4: was there. Who's who's at Uh Clay Thompson, That's what
- 11:33Speaker 4: it was. Are you watching how he's structuring his deal
- 11:37Speaker 4: and and looking at this is completely independent. We want
- 11:40Speaker 4: to have a global brand. This is a company that
- 11:42Speaker 4: I think we can partner with.
- 11:43Speaker 6: Yeah, So we took the time to kind of figure
- 11:47Speaker 6: out what did we really want an a shoe deal.
- 11:49Speaker 6: So before we even you know, when it was Nike
- 11:53Speaker 6: was done, it was like, what is what's important? So
- 11:55Speaker 6: it was creativity, it was price point, quality, products of
- 12:00Speaker 6: other things. And so when we started to have the
- 12:03Speaker 6: conversations with Anton a few other companies, it was really
- 12:09Speaker 6: about us creating our own contract because we didn't want
- 12:13Speaker 6: something that was really a traditional contract where it was
- 12:16Speaker 6: like you just get royalties and you get a base
- 12:18Speaker 6: commission and you walk away. We wanted something that had
- 12:21Speaker 6: a lot more ownership for us because we knew that
- 12:24Speaker 6: once we put Kai in the lab, we knew what
- 12:27Speaker 6: he was going to create. At the end of the day,
- 12:29Speaker 6: we wanted something that gave us real equity, that gave
- 12:36Speaker 6: us a real opportunity to control the narrative and do
- 12:40Speaker 6: something really different. We wanted something that was international, and
- 12:43Speaker 6: we wanted something that we could also use as a springboard.
- 12:47Speaker 6: So we knew that in China his shoes were very successful,
- 12:51Speaker 6: So it just made sense right when we looked at
- 12:54Speaker 6: if we thought about what part of the world were
- 12:58Speaker 6: his number one sales, it was China. So we immediately
- 13:01Speaker 6: kind of stood there and said, what can we build
- 13:03Speaker 6: here and expand?
- 13:05Speaker 1: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 13:08Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
