- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 158. Can you believe it? Lucas: I know. We've come a long way. In our last episode, we covered morning and evening. Today, let's look at a couple more times of day. Luna: Oh, I love this. I feel like I can finally talk about my whole day. Lucas: Exactly. So we learned 今朝 for this morning and 今晚 for tonight. But what about the afternoon? Luna: Right. Afternoon. Is that 下晝? Lucas: Perfect. 下晝. Let's say it together: 下晝. Luna: 下晝. Lucas: Great. And night — like the night, not evening — is 夜晚. Luna: 夜晚. Lucas: Awesome. Now let's build some sentences. For example: 下晝我去咗食飯. That means 'In the afternoon, I went to eat.' Luna: 下晝我去咗食飯. So 下晝 is afternoon, 我去咗 is I went, 食飯 is eat rice or eat a meal. Lucas: You got it. Try it once more. Luna: 下晝我去咗食飯. Lucas: Beautiful. Now another one: 夜晚我會睇電視. At night, I will watch TV. Luna: 夜晚我會睇電視. 夜晚, then 我會 for I will, 睇電視 watch TV. Lucas: Yes. Your turn. Luna: 夜晚我會睇電視. Lucas: Nailed it. Now let's practice asking questions. To ask 'What do you do in the afternoon?' you say: 你下晝做咩? Luna: 你下晝做咩? So 你 is you, 下晝 afternoon, 做咩 do what. Lucas: Exactly. Say it. Luna: 你下晝做咩? Lucas: And for night: 你夜晚做咩? Luna: 你夜晚做咩? Lucas: Perfect. So now we have four new phrases. Let's review them all: 下晝, 夜晚, 下晝我去咗食飯, 夜晚我會睇電視, 你下晝做咩, 你夜晚做咩. Luna: That's a lot but I think I can handle it. Lucas: Of course you can. Let's do a quick scene. Imagine a friend asks you: 你下晝做咩? Luna: I would say: 下晝我去咗食飯. And then they might ask: 你夜晚做咩? Lucas: And you say? Luna: 夜晚我會睇電視. Lucas: Excellent. You just had a whole conversation about your day. Luna: I did. And it feels great.
