- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Guys, welcome back to Skincare Anarchy.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: This is your host, Ekta, and I am super excited about this episode because I have been absolutely loving this line and it is so well crafted, and the name is genuinely one of my favorite parts.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: So without further ado, I want to introduce you guys to the founders of Sundry Skin Care, Sahar and Sahar.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the show, guys.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited that you're here.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much for having us.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: We're so excited, honored.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Thanks for having me.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: No, I it's truly my honor, and I and I want to learn all about your brand.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: So maybe we can start from the beginning and you know, um, dive into like what really inspired you guys to start a skincare line and you know, all the good stuff.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Um, well, because the name is your favorite, um, we'll jump in with that first.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: Yes, I love it.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, so we kind of were just taking like the the, you know, we wanted to create something that was very diverse and available and um effective for a variety of skin, right?
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: So hence the word sundry, if you were to actually spell it correctly, S-U-N-D-R-Y, right?
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: So sundry meaning various.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: And we decided to just put a twist on it and um spell it sundry with two E's at the end.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Um, and it's really just a testament to what it is that we're trying to build, something effective that works for an array of skin types and available to you know all people in terms of being, you know, um an affordable price point and really great products that are effective and good for you.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Um so that's kind of really where the the name sort of comes from.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: So to give you some background on your favorite part.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Um but then how our products came about, to be honest, it was about five, maybe six years at this point ago, where Sahar and I were just messing around and we made our bathrooms our labs.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: I um have had you know cystic acne and acne since I was 14 years old.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: And so I was always looking for things that would calm the redness and the itchiness, but at the same time wouldn't make me break out additionally.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, five years ago, we just started playing around with things, and it was actually the other Sahar who was telling me, you know, I have a friend who says CBD really helps her.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: What if you applied that topically?
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: And that's kind of how it started.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: We just we didn't think that we would ever really get to this point.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: And we created something that worked for Sahar's skin, who, you know, she's got more on the dry side and sensitive.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: And I'm acne prone and combination skin.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: And we were like, okay, this is working for both of us.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: So it's hydrating for her, it's not irritating.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: And then at the same time, for me, it is really calming down that like itchy, uncomfortable feeling around cystic acne and also calming the inflammation down and hydrating it, did all these things.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: So we were like, we're sort of on to something, and so why don't we just keep going?
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: And here we are today talking to you about Sundry.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I I I actually want to ask you is like, what were some of the ingredients that you found um that were working?
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Because honestly, like, you know, I think skin health and skin care is such a personal journey for us all, you know.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And it's like, you know, the fact that you were you guys were experimenting and you were, you know, playing around and trying to really solve this problem.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: I I absolutely love that.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: I think that is genuinely like one of the best places to start when you want to create a quality product.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: So I want to um talk a little bit more about the ingredients.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: I know you mentioned CBD.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, we kind of went through tons of ingredients, um, tried to see what works for both of our skin types.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: Like Sahar said, we both have very different skin types.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: So trying to find a product when we were testing, trying to find something that works for both of our skin types was pretty tedious at times.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: So um we knew the basics that we knew the ingredients we really loved and worked for both of us, like hyaluronic acid, an amazing humectant, you know, plumps up the skin, helps with the fine lines and wrinkles, um, niacinamide, such a great retexturizer, um, helps brighten the skin.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: And of course, we included CBD in our products.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: And um the reason we did that um was because when we were testing our products, we weren't sure if we were gonna include C BD.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: We had heard so many good things about it, um, that it's a good anti-inflammatory, it sootes the skin, it hydrates.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: So we said, let's test it out, you know, like if it works, we'll add it.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: But if it doesn't, we're not just gonna add it to have C BD in our products.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: So after testing and sampling and going back and forth with our labs, um, we saw that CBD really um enhanced our formulas, you know.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: In our Rise and Shine, if you want to just start getting into our products, um Yeah, yeah.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: The Rise and Shine serum, everyone listening is a beautiful facial serum.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: It's oh my gosh, I love it.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: The way it oh my goodness, like it spreads beautifully, it soaks in, it has this beautiful smell that's just so natural.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I I love this product.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, please tell me more.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: For rise and shine, we wanted to make a lightweight serum that um it was really important for us that it absorbs nice.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: Um, we have a we have a very small sense of aloe, um, and it just sings so well and it really gives you that glow.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: So we really wanted to include um niacinamide in the product.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Um, of course, helps lighten the skin and it's just it's just a great antioxidant.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: Um, we have the hyaluronic acid, we've got that to pump up the fine lines, like especially for me.
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: I'm getting older, so I have those fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes and face.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: So um hyaluronic acid for me is like key for my skin.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: And then um, of course, you have vitamin C, the ultimate antioxidant, which helps diminish dullness.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: Um, and as we age, you know, skin gets more dull.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: So um it'll help even out the skin tone.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: And of course, we added the CBD in there.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: Um, in this product, we use CBD um as an anti-inflammatory to help regulate um oil production.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: So it works so well.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it works so well with the hyaluronic acid and the niacinamide.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: So even if you have acne-prone skin, um, it'll help it.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: Um, and like we said, I have very normal to dry skin and starts more like acne-prone.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: So for this product, it was really important for us to find a balance that would work good for both of our skin types.
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: And um, we just love it.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I mean, it's really, really wonderful because you know, I I actually really loved the point that Sarah brought up about like the itchiness around cystic acne, because that is one of the biggest problems.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Like I I've was talking to um Dr.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Marmor uh earlier this week, and we were talking about acne.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: And, you know, um one of the biggest things she brought up was, you know, people pick at their at their acne, especially if they have cystic acne because it's so itchy.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: And you know, for you to really acknowledge that and really keep that in mind when you crafted your products is I think that's extraordinary because that is a huge problem, you know what I mean, for people.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: So and it can lead to scarring, so it's like not if you're not taking care of your skin in a way that's just not, you know, you have to take care of it in a way that just kind of quells all of that, right?
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Um last thing you want.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: And I I have scars all over because I would pick so much um because it's just such an uncomfortable thing.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: And so um, you know, now I've learned how to harness that and learned how to uh manage my skin.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Um and that CBD has really been such a huge game changer for my skincare regimen that we wanted to make sure that we were able to bring it to everyone else, you know, just to lean into it as another really wonderful ingredient.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Um, and like Sahar said, you know, not all of our products moving forward are gonna have CBD in them unless they are really enhancing the formulation.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: And for Rise and Shine and also for our peptide IMAS, they were really the CBD really benefited the effects of it.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: And we saw that almost immediately.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: So we knew we had to run with CBD in these two products.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: You know, and I want to actually like just take a minute to tell you, or not tell you, but like just rant about CBD because I uh to be honest with you, when I first discovered CBD and skincare, it was through St.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Jane, you know, and um, and I when I had first tried CBD on my skin, I was just blown away with the anti-inflammatory effects.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was just like night and day difference, and that's the exact same feeling I have when I put on your serum because, you know, like for me, I don't really have like acne anymore.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: I used to have it, but now, like, you know, um, I think like Zahar mentioned, like, my skin is more like hers where it's dry a little bit, you know what I mean?
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: And it's got those moments where I'm like, oh, I just want it to be like not as inflamed and not red.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: And CBD genuinely is like a magic ingredient for that.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: So I love, I love that your products have it in it.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: And the truth is, I think that's something else that we've learned through this process is that a lot of our skincare conditions, you know, it starts with our skin just not being hydrated enough.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: And the reality is that with our rise and shine serum, we definitely have, you know, a hyaluronic acid, a humectant, glycerin, also another really wonderful humectant.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: But uh CBD is also in skincare is used as an emollient.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: So it's really moisturizing and leaves your skin so much more supple and soft than if you weren't utilizing it every day.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: So I think that it that hydration level is the first step to kind of really starting to take care of, you know, any of our skin issues, acne even being one of them.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Um so that's you know another reason why we just loved the CBD component because it's just more hydration.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: And you know, I I think this is like, you know, for me, I think that skincare is something that we need to keep it simple.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Like I think we need to keep skincare simple because you know, there are only so many ingredients that I, in my opinion at least, that work.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: And I think you guys have really hit the nail on the head and included like all of them, you know, like like you said, niacinamide is amazing, you know, vitamin C, amazing.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, and people I know were talking about glycerin before.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Glycerin's amazing.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Like, I I think that, you know, the more humectance you have, the easier it is for your skin to like pull water in, obviously, but also to retain it.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: You know, it's like it's almost like this physiological effect that takes place in our skin, I think, uh, over time, where it's like when you when you treat it to, you know, be used to water and to be used to certain amount of like, you know, just moisture in it, it's going to always try to maintain that homeostasis.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: So I think that that it's brilliant, you know, what you what you put together.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Um, I want to actually move on and talk about your eye patches because I'm not gonna lie, they are honestly amazing and I love them.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: I can like I like fall asleep with them on.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: I'm so glad I'm obsessed with them too.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I and I want to know because you know, there's such your your two your products are so like you know, there it's like oneness for the face and the eyes.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: So, how did you like, you know, when you guys were deciding like what you wanted to launch with, like, how did you come up with the idea for eye patches and then also CR?
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: I'm like, Yeah.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: So I'm obsessed with masks.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: Um me too.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: I'm literally obsessed with them.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: So I use a mask um and eye masks probably every day, to be completely honest with you, because I just love the way that they hydrate my skin.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: And so um, interestingly enough, uh with Rise and Shine, originally we had thought of bringing that to the table as a face mask, um, but then we pivoted.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: And then we were working on this other serum, which is now the serum in our peptides masks, and we were like, oh, this is such with the white tea extract and with the copper peptides.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: We were like, you know what, this would be really great for us to target the under-eye area, which I also always seem to feel like I have issues with.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: I wake up like looking like a gremlin.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, maybe I need something to kind of help calm down this darkness and this puffiness around my eyes.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: And that's really how we decided to make our second product an eye mask.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: It's purely just the things that we love.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: So we love a good serum and we love a good eye mask.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: And we were like, you know, the most authentic way for us to approach launching this brand is doing things that mean something to the two of us.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: And so that's kind of how we turned um that secondary serum into an eye mask.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Um, and we just love, we just love the way that it feels and we've passed it.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: No, it works, it works hard.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: Like honestly, like I have been using the eye patches and like I'm the same way what you just described.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Like I wake up with like the darkest circles under my eyes.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: And I I mean, I want to blame that on work, you know what I mean?
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Like being on call for countless amount of hours, but honestly, I think it's just a perpetual problem I have.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: And the eye masks are really actually very effective.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Like, I've already noticed like a huge difference, you know, like the the darkness and like just the way like the it's not just about like you know, dark circles around your eyes, it's also about like how you know hydrated and plump the under-eye area is.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: I've noticed, and these help so much with that.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Like I've I've noticed a huge difference.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: So brilliant product.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: And yeah, and and definitely like the wrinkles and fine lines, you know, we want to be able to fill those in and plump it.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: You know, the aging starts usually around the eyes, right?
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: And as I are getting older, we're like, what can we do to try to maintain this fountain of youth?
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Um, and so the the copper peptides in this, along with the CBD, we think is just such a great um combination, um, really packs the punch.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: And I think it's those two products together that are really working to kind of you know do everything you just said.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: No, it it shows Sahar.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: I I know um, you know, I've we you and I have been talking uh the whole time, but I want to get the um Sahar number two involved as well, please.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: Um like I want to know you guys' journey, you know, like I want to know more about like you know your backgrounds as well, because I think that plays such a huge role into brands, right?
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: Like we we all have our own like personal touch.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: So um I won't you guys tell me a little bit about yourselves, you know, your your careers and all that good stuff.
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: So um I started in business school and then I decided to go to law school.
- 14:26SPEAKER_03: And um, while I was in law school after I graduated, I um realized, you know, I started working for different firms and studying for the bar, and I realized that, you know, it wasn't really for me and I needed to change um and I needed to decide what I wanted to do, but I really didn't know at that time.
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: And um so before I could make that decision, I was married and I was pregnant.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: And um, while I was pregnant, it became very health conscious.
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: Um, I wanted to make sure what I was putting on my skin was not only good for me, but for my baby as well.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: And that's when I realized that I always had a passion for skincare.
- 15:02SPEAKER_03: I remember as a child watching my mom um do her skincare routine and just uh telling me the importance of skincare.
- 15:10SPEAKER_03: And I thought, you know, how awesome would that be for me to pass that along to my daughter, you know, and teach her the things that uh my mom taught me.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: So while I was pregnant and on this health journey, um I started looking for more clean, simple, effective, and affordable products.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: But um at the time there weren't that many out, you know, it was like six, seven years ago.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: Um and I couldn't find anything I loved at the same time.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: So that's kind of when I started um looking for something that really worked for my skin.
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: And um around that time, Sahara and I started messing around with different products and ingredients, and we started testing different things out and swapping serums to kind of see what worked for both of our skin types.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: Um and as we mentioned, I'm more like on the dry side.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: So um for me, the key is hydration, you know, I want to get rid of those fine lines, I want to plump up my skin.
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: Um so that's where we kind of started, and that's where Sundry came to life little by little.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and you know, I I I really like that organic, you know, the organic aspect of how the brand came about, honestly, because I think that's you know, for me, I I talk to so many founders and and I sometimes I wonder, I'm like, did you really want to start a skincare line or were you just doing it for like overnight success?
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: And it's just it's so obvious when you hear those kind of people and like you know, it's so I I really enjoy that you guys have this organic and beautiful journey behind why you created this.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: You know, it's to me, like as a consumer, like when I buy a brand, that's kind of the stuff I look for is you know, do I not only believe in the brand, but do I also believe in the founders, you know, and and their journey and their experience?
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: So I I I love that.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Um, I actually, you know, I want to move forward a little bit and talk about um, you know, just as in terms of like, you know, getting the the project off the ground and like, you know, just getting everything together, did you guys run in into any hurdles or you know, were there any like points where you, you know, in your business where you were like, oh my God, like this is really tough, you know, because I I can't, I don't know what the process is in the skincare space as far as starting your own line.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: So I'd love for you to share some details um about that.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: Um well, I mean, as we were putting sundry together, obviously the pandemic hit.
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: Um, and that kind of messed up the whole supply chain and trying to get um things shipped out or getting packaging or boxing or sourcing different ingredients, you know, whether it was in the US or overseas, like the ports were backed up, mail wasn't getting delivered, the post office was late.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: So um that delayed us a lot.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: Um, and then in terms of our lab, you know, we would go to our lab so many times pre-pandemic, you know, to talk with our chemists, to um test out different ingredients, and all of a sudden everything moved to Zoom, you know, we couldn't go in as much, um, samples had to be delivered to us instead of us going.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: So everything moved along much slower than we had anticipated, but um, at the same time, it taught that you know we can work remotely, and um it it wasn't a bad thing, it just delayed us a lot.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, it was, I mean, it it is what it is, but I feel like um at the end we went we got throughout we got through our journey and it was nice for us.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, that's amazing.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: Like I, you know, I know that COVID was a huge problem for so many businesses, you know.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: So that's and I'm glad that you brought that up.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: You know, I I think that with COVID, like one of the biggest problems has been like, you know, um in terms of like products, especially like beauty products, is like the ability to try them, you know, on our skin and like feel them.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: And you know, that's a big reason why for me, you know, with this podcast, like I I try my best to like really explain, you know, how these products feel because it's like you know, people don't didn't have that, you know, for such a long time.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: And I think that's such a huge and important factor.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I just wanted to like that's why you know I wanted to say like how the serum felt in terms of absorbing in and all that.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Thank thank you for sharing that.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Um, so you know, moving on.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: I I actually want to talk a little bit about like what is coming up for Sundry.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: You know, I I really are you know, I want to know like where are you guys trying to go like with the line overall?
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, is it um, you know, do you have any more products in the works?
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: Or I would love to see some masks, honestly.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Note it, Ekta.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: We'll take that and figure that out for you for sure.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we have um, we are currently in the process of the RD process for our next couple of um products.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Like Sahar just said, you know, everything has slowed down a bit.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: And even now that things are opening up, the our lab is still trying to catch up on things.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, we're still in that RD process.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: But I think that the key for us is, you know, instead of pinpointing like we want to do a cleanser or we want to do a moisturizer, it's we're making sure that uh all the products that we bring to market really are extensions of what Sahara and I use.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: I think that goes back to um us wanting to ensure that everything we do feels as authentic as possible, hence why you know the eye masks were something that we really wanted to push forward with.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Um and so we do have a couple things in in the works at the moment, and we'll surprise you with them hopefully soon.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: Um it's really just about being authentic and not trying to follow any like uh, you know, historically, you know, people are releasing brands that come out with like a five system, um, you know, a program of five different ingredients and products and things like that.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: We're just kind of doing our own thing.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: We're not adhering to any sort of rules except our own, ensuring that it's really effective product, a good product that works, and ensuring that we're constantly thinking about the consumer and making sure it's affordable.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of what we're looking forward towards.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: Um and so, but we do have some really exciting things, and I definitely want to create a face mask eventually.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: So you'll be the first person after me to get it.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, yes, please.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: And you know, I wouldn't even mind if you turned your rise and shine serum into a mask.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Like it was so funny.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: Actually, it was supposed to be a face mask.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Um I think I I don't know if I actually said that, but it was supposed to be a face mask, and we decided that like we were crowdsourcing a lot with our family and a lot of our friends and you know, uh friends in the industry of whether it's beauty and entertainment, et cetera.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: We were giving them all these samples to just test everything.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: And the majority of them were like, we don't like masks.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Um and so became overwhelming.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, what?
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: What's wrong with you?
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: I know, right?
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: But we were like, it's interesting because actually Sahar does is not as is huge.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Huge of a mask fan of I am.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: So we were like, okay, you know what?
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: The happy medium here will be the IM, which is our, you know, our baby, the first product we like randomly stumbled upon in our in our bathroom.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Um, we decided that that was going to be a serum, you know, just in a bottle, et cetera, and that the eye masks will just be the masks for now.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: But I definitely think that you're onto something and we should probably shift into utilizing that in a mask as well.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: So yes, and maybe we can uh convert Sahar into a fellow masker.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: But also um I do want to point out, like one of the things that when we were creating Sundry is we did want to simplify skincare routine.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: Like Sarah was saying, like these five steps.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: I myself was one that back then was doing the whole seven-step routine, you know, and I just it wasn't doing anything for my skin, you know, and you know, like the industry was trying to tell you more is better, but everyone's skin type is different, you know.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: So, and when we were formulating our products, we wanted to formulate, like with Rise and Shine, we wanted to put a couple of good ingredients that people use daily instead of having to put on your hyaluron acid serums and put on the vitamin C on top.
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: Let's mix them together, have an effective formula, simplify skincare, and not take too much of your time, you know, because like working moms, whether you're working, you're home, you know, um pregnant, you don't have time to do that seven-step routine, you know.
- 23:27SPEAKER_03: We wanted to simplify it for women and men out there.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and also, you know, just to add to your point, it's like especially if you suffer from like acne or any kind of like actual skin concerns, you know, you don't want to be guessing like which ingredient, you know, made it worse, right?
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: It's like you want to be able to say, okay, this serum, you know, I I have this serum, I know what's in it, I know it works, you know what I mean?
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: My skin loves all this stuff.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: So you don't you take all that guesswork out for the consumer.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: And I I love that.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: I really love that.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: And you know, I just want to like say this for all the listeners out there, you know, the reason I really fell in love with the with the name for this is from because I from Haryana in India, right?
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: The state of Haryana.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: And my grandmother used to say Sundri.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Sundri is like, you know, for anyone listening who doesn't know, it's like a it's a cute way of saying beautiful and like, you know, like this, it's it's like, you know, bubbly and fun and cute.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: And I just when I first saw it, I was like, oh my gosh, like I love the name.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: And so it just really took me back to some memories.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: And I, you know, I just love the way that you guys have, you know, created the packaging.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: It's a very like, it's a fun, you know, it feels like a fun line, but it's reliable, you know, that's so important, you know, especially now because I think you know, Gen Z is so different, you know, and what they're looking for and whatnot.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: So being able to appeal to a consumer on multiple levels is something that takes a lot of hard work and a lot of brilliance.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: So I really want to commend you guys for that because you've you've done a beautiful job.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: And it's I I love to hear that um the uh that sundry, what it means um for your grandmother and how she was using it, because I think that in our brand, we also want to make sure that we're constantly remaining an optimistic brand, right?
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: Um and being bubbly and you know, working with colors that make you happy.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: When you say the word sundry, you you can't help but smile just by saying it.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: So we really want to make sure we're we're always keeping it light and playful, but you know, when it comes down to formulation, just being really effective and gentle.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Um I used to be the girl who was like, if it's not burning my skin, it's not doing anything.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: And I realized I was hurting my skin so uh negatively doing that.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: And so we want to make sure that everything is very light, whether it's you know, light in color, light in in uh in weight, uh lighthearted, everything is about this like bubbly energy.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: So I love I love that that is the translation.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: And that's just awesome.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, no, it is, it is, and you know, that's the thing, like, you know, it's very important, it's very important for you know skincare like products to be this way because I think, you know, when you're for example, like, you know, if I have, you know, a friend who has a daughter and you know, she's starting to have problems with her skin, I want to be able to say, you know, hey, you know, try the Rise and Shine serum, you know, because I trust it, you know, I trust it.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: I I think it's cute.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: And I it because of the way that it's you know, it's packaged and the way the whole aura around it, like she'll be more inclined to use it, you know, that kind of thing.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: So it's like it's it's not just about creating skincare, right?
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: It's also about creating something that um people gravitate towards, you know, on some philosophical level, you know what I mean?
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely being approachable, I think is really, you know, an important aspect of all this, which is also why our price points are really important to us and ensuring that it's you know something that is approachable for everyone.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Um, it's not in the bank uh for for most people, hopefully not.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: And we'll always kind of move forward with something uh with that in mind to make sure it's just you know accessible to people.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, accessibility is genuinely like very, very important right now, I think in the beauty space for sure.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Like, and and you know, I wanted to, I actually want to talk a little bit more about that is like when you were just um determining your price points, you know, what were like did you know like from the beginning, like, oh, we're gonna stay within this range, or was it something that you decided after like, you know, the formulation and everything took place?
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, you know, our ingredients that we're using, they are all, you know, premium ingredients, specifically if we're gonna, you know, hone in on the peptides.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: Copper peptides is a very premium ingredient.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: And we wanted to make sure that we were utilizing, you know, the the proper uh kind of quantities, et cetera, of all of these ingredients to ensure that the formula works, but at the same time, you know, making sure that it's effective cost effective.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: So it wasn't something that we started thinking about.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: We were just really trying to get the formulation nailed down and perfect.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: And then I think that as it progressed, you know, and we were thinking about okay, what's the cost of making this, et cetera, just like Sahara and I were like, wow, it, you know, it's gonna come off really expensive if we do it this way.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: And we don't want to pass that on to the consumer.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: So we have to kind of, you know, um kind of recalibrate things a bit without losing the effectiveness of each of the formulations.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: Um and and now we'll always kind of lead with with I want to say lead, maybe it'll be the second thing to make sure that we can always keep the cost low so that consumers will always find us as like a great go-to that's not breaking the bank, that is still working.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Um, but it's not something we led with, but it's something now we know that we probably should keep in mind at every turn.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: Um, and you know, talking to our our chemist as well so that that you know she understands specifically what it is that that we're trying to achieve and making sure we can hit these price points while being like uber, uber effective at the same time.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: No, that makes sense.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: It really makes sense.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: And you know, I think that I think it's a beautiful, beautiful design.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: I think you guys have just done such an extraordinary job.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: And I love the line.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: Everyone listening out there, you know, I highly, highly urge and recommend Sundry skincare for you guys, you know, check it out.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: It's a beautiful, you know, it's just a beautiful line to like just kind of pop into your bag.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: You know, for me, I'm like always looking for like products that I can like really rely on, you know what I mean?
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: And like if I'm going to the hospital, if I'm going somewhere, like traveling, like I want to be able to put in stuff that you know I know I can trust at the end of the day.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: And this is definitely, I can say wholeheartedly, the serum is absolutely phenomenal.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: Works, the eye patches, absolutely phenomenal.
