- 0:00SPEAKER_00: This is an evil generation that seeks a sign.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Well, the sign that they're seeking, it's not a stop sign.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: It's a different kind of sign.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: And I think that's important to say first off,
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: because when we hear that word sign,
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: we might think of road signs or those sorts of things.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: That's not what Christ is talking about,
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: but he's talking about Some kind of a miraculous occurrence,
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: some kind of an incredible thing.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: But in other words,
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: something tangible, something that people can see and touch somehow experience.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: And that's not foreign to our own way of thinking as Americans, as Westerners.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: We tend to think that what's true is what's tangible, what we can see and touch.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: You know, show it to me, give me the proof, and then I'll believe.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: But the most true things in life,
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: the most important things in life are not things that we can see and touch.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: They're things that transcend that, that transcend this material reality.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And all we have to do is think for a few seconds to realize that even for us,
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: materialistic Westerners that we might be,
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: we know that the most important things are not tangible.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And that's what Christ is trying to point to,
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: that no one really is going to believe because of some proof,
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: because of some sign, because of some mysterious or miraculous occurrence.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: You can always explain those things away.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And I don't think anyone here in this church believes because they were just,
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: some sort of an atheist or a pagan or something,
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: and they were studying history and found this Proof of the resurrection and said,
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: oh wow, somebody rose from the dead, now I believe that I'm a Christian.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: I don't think that's the case for anyone that I know of, certainly not the case for me.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: In other words,
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: these amazing things,
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: this sign of Jonah that Christ talks about,
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: which is his rising from the dead after being in the tomb for three days,
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: they don't create belief, they don't create faith.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Faith is something different.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: It's something that is actually more real than any of these sorts of things.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: At the heart of our faith is a relationship, as I talked about before.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: And the way to enter into that relationship with God is not through signs
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: and wonders, but it's through opening yourself up to that.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: It's through allowing God into your life, inviting him in, And then see what happens.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Because I guarantee you,
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: if you open yourself up to God,
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: if you invite God to come into your life,
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: He will come into your life in a much more real way than any reality
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: that can be proved with mathematical formulas.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Because the most real things in life are not tangible.
