- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on you. Uh huh, I sure will. Good morning
- 0:06Speaker 1: everybody you are listening to the voice, Come on dig
- 0:09Speaker 1: me now. One and only Steve Harvey got a radio show,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Man on Man on man. I thank God for it.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I thank God for all He's done for me, for
- 0:23Speaker 1: all the little things that I oftentimes failed to thank
- 0:27Speaker 1: him for that I take for granted for you know,
- 0:32Speaker 1: I was. I was talking the other day to a
- 0:34Speaker 1: buddy of mine. We had gotten to this conversation about
- 0:39Speaker 1: God and and in the conversation we had narrowed it
- 0:44Speaker 1: down and we were talking about changing the way we
- 0:47Speaker 1: are as people. You know that everybody has to change.
- 0:52Speaker 1: You know, nothing stays the same. Everybody changes, and a
- 0:57Speaker 1: lot of these changes can be for the good, and
- 1:00Speaker 1: a lot of them are just They just come with time,
- 1:02Speaker 1: you know. Sometimes it's aging that changes us. But no
- 1:06Speaker 1: matter how old you get, you still have the ability
- 1:12Speaker 1: to improve as a person. You may not have the
- 1:15Speaker 1: footspeed you used to have. You may not be as
- 1:19Speaker 1: agile as you used to be. Your energy level may
- 1:25Speaker 1: not be what it used to be. Your desire to
- 1:29Speaker 1: do some of the things that you used to do
- 1:31Speaker 1: may be gone. The thing that doesn't have to change
- 1:39Speaker 1: and will not change is you you have the ability
- 1:45Speaker 1: to continue to grow as a person even when far
- 1:51Speaker 1: the time and nature has taken its course. We were
- 1:57Speaker 1: talking about everybody can change and everybody has the right
- 2:08Speaker 1: to reinvent themselves as they get older, and I equated
- 2:13Speaker 1: it to jumping out of an airplane. You know, there
- 2:17Speaker 1: are some people man who get to a certain point
- 2:20Speaker 1: in their life and they and they jump from the airplane.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Is now almost a stunt of some kind. It's almost
- 2:29Speaker 1: like they lifed and got out of control. You ever
- 2:32Speaker 1: seen somebody jump out an airplane and the parachute don't open,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and they life start and it seems like they start
- 2:39Speaker 1: spinning and tumbling and they can't get it together. And
- 2:41Speaker 1: I've seen some mid air rescues before. But then there
- 2:45Speaker 1: are times when you know when it hasn't worked. You know,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you jump out that airplane and at first it's fun.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I've never scot dived before, but I would imagine when
- 2:56Speaker 1: you first jump out of an airplane that they people
- 3:00Speaker 1: describe it as a sense of being free, and it's
- 3:04Speaker 1: exhilarating when you first jump out the plane. But if
- 3:09Speaker 1: you pull that cord and nothing happens, I've never happened
- 3:12Speaker 1: to me, But I can only imagine the panic that's
- 3:17Speaker 1: got to set in, because no matter how fun it
- 3:21Speaker 1: was a moment ago, the flying over to one another,
- 3:24Speaker 1: the holding hands in the air, the breeze, the descent,
- 3:30Speaker 1: the feeling of all of a sudden, if you reach
- 3:34Speaker 1: for that cord and it's not there, you're suddenly spinning
- 3:38Speaker 1: out of control. And that's what happens in a lot
- 3:41Speaker 1: of people's lives. When you first start your life, you
- 3:44Speaker 1: jump out the plane, you free you young, you ain't
- 3:47Speaker 1: got nothing to war about it. But then you get
- 3:48Speaker 1: to a certain point in your life when you go, okay,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna pull the cord now. And pulling the cord
- 3:56Speaker 1: is an important thing, because here's the allergy my friend
- 4:01Speaker 1: gave me. He said, man, use your mind like a parachute.
- 4:07Speaker 1: It works better when it's open. Well, see what happens
- 4:12Speaker 1: with a lot of people is they in life. They
- 4:15Speaker 1: jump out the plane and they and they having this
- 4:20Speaker 1: free fall and it's fun for now. But they get
- 4:24Speaker 1: to a certain point in their life where they got
- 4:26Speaker 1: themself in a situation, or they've had a little bit
- 4:29Speaker 1: too much fun, a little bit too long, or you know,
- 4:32Speaker 1: they wasn't open to nothing, and they just did what
- 4:35Speaker 1: they wanted to do, or they started getting involved with
- 4:38Speaker 1: drugs or drinking or started running with the wrong people.
- 4:41Speaker 1: See you jump out the plane. At first, you're free
- 4:43Speaker 1: falling this fun but then after a minute, man, something
- 4:46Speaker 1: happens and they realize whoa and they reach for the cord,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and the chord don't work. Well. Now you're in the
- 4:51Speaker 1: panic stricken situation. And my suggestion that what I've learned
- 4:55Speaker 1: from the analogy that my friends shared with me is
- 4:58Speaker 1: that we all the sooner we can open our mind to God,
- 5:03Speaker 1: the sooner we could develop that relationship with him. It's
- 5:08Speaker 1: like pulling the chord and opening a parachute. If you
- 5:12Speaker 1: open up your mind to God, God is like a parachute.
- 5:17Speaker 1: You know. God can slow your descent. God can turn
- 5:22Speaker 1: this out of control freefall into a nice ride for you. See,
- 5:28Speaker 1: that's what happened to me. I was spinning out of control.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I had gotten myself into a point, man, where I
- 5:38Speaker 1: wasn't doing real good. Oh y'all would look at me
- 5:41Speaker 1: and think, man, stevee man, Now I wasn't doing real good.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I had spun out of control. I was in a
- 5:51Speaker 1: free fall, and I reached for the chord, but I
- 5:54Speaker 1: was so far away the chord didn't open. Then I
- 5:57Speaker 1: went to him and I pulled the chord. When I
- 6:00Speaker 1: went to God, I pulled the cord in open, and
- 6:04Speaker 1: he slowed my descent. And this is what I just believe.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I don't believe now that I age as fast as
- 6:11Speaker 1: I was aging, because I got that parachute open. Now,
- 6:15Speaker 1: you know, I take better care of myself, eating, I
- 6:17Speaker 1: work out more. Now you know I'm not out of control.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I have a direction now that win. Then got up
- 6:25Speaker 1: under that parachute a little bit, you know, And now
- 6:28Speaker 1: I'm I'm going You know, I'm still getting older, you
- 6:32Speaker 1: know so, but the descent is so slow. Now I'm
- 6:35Speaker 1: able to enjoy the ride. I'm guiding my parachute over.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Sometimes we go over to to a vacation spot over here,
- 6:42Speaker 1: we float back over to it. But you know, I'm
- 6:45Speaker 1: still getting old. I'm still going down. But the descent,
- 6:49Speaker 1: because I've opened my mind to God, the parachute has
- 6:54Speaker 1: slowed my descent. And now I'm rocking back and forth.
- 6:59Speaker 1: But I ain't spending out of control no more. You know,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I'm able to enjoy the view. Now. You know, when
- 7:05Speaker 1: you jump out that plane and you pull that cord
- 7:08Speaker 1: and it don't work, you ain't looking at the view
- 7:10Speaker 1: no more. You're thinking of only one thing. How can
- 7:12Speaker 1: I slow this down? Well, now I'm able to enjoy
- 7:15Speaker 1: the view. I'm able to see all the beautiful things
- 7:18Speaker 1: on the horizon that God has for me. I'm able
- 7:22Speaker 1: to see all the beautiful things around me that He's
- 7:24Speaker 1: provided for me over these years because I've slowed my descent.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I use my mind like a parachute. It works better
- 7:33Speaker 1: when it's open. Open your mind to God and so
- 7:37Speaker 1: you can see the view, so you can slow the descent,
- 7:41Speaker 1: so you can stop the out of control free fall
- 7:44Speaker 1: that you've been on. That you can get your life
- 7:46Speaker 1: together and see everything out on the horizon that God
- 7:50Speaker 1: has for you. You know, it turned out to be
- 7:52Speaker 1: a very true statement. Your mind, if you use it
- 7:55Speaker 1: like a parachute, it works better when it's open. Y'all
