Latest / Most Things Kenobi - A Star Wars Podcast / S2 E7: Reviewing "Skeleton Crew" Episodes 3 & 4 (SPOILERS)
Transcript
- 0:00Hello there. Control your insolence and
- 0:03concentrate it's. Time for most things, Kenobi.
- 0:20Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of Most Things Kenobi, a
- 0:23podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:26I'm your host, Leanne. And I'm your host, Lauren.
- 0:30I did it. I continued to watch Skeleton
- 0:33Crew. I did it for you.
- 0:36Y'all out there, I did it. Thank you.
- 0:38And that's what we're talking about this week.
- 0:41I hope it wasn't too much of A sacrifice, but I understand if
- 0:44it is. I had a 5 hour layover when I
- 0:48was coming back from visiting my parents and it was the best
- 0:51thing to do during that 5 hour layover.
- 0:55So I found myself a quiet spot and I, you know, I had my little
- 0:59hot chocolate from the the coffee shop.
- 1:02And I just. Snuggled in and said I got, you
- 1:05know, what else am I going to do with my time?
- 1:09And honestly, I didn't hate them as much as I hated the first two
- 1:12episodes. Although I'm still like forcing
- 1:14myself to to stay. There's a lot of times where I
- 1:17rolled my eyes, but I'm trying to not do that.
- 1:22I understand that because these I do feel like these two
- 1:25episodes were not as good as the first two and I actually found
- 1:29myself kind of doing the checking your watch thing on the
- 1:324th episode. Yeah.
- 1:35Yeah, never a great sign, but. No, there's, there were nice
- 1:40things about it that I was like, oh, that's nice.
- 1:44Yeah, Yeah, there's a lot of cuteness.
- 1:47Well. Yeah.
- 1:48Before we get too deep, spoiler alert Yep.
- 1:51Get give it to him more. Here we are.
- 1:54We are going to talk about episodes three and four and
- 1:56possibly one and two. Again, it might sneak in.
- 1:58So if you haven't watched Skeleton Crew yet, stop now, go
- 2:02watch, then come back because we are not going to hold back on
- 2:05spoilers. So let's go.
- 2:08All right, shall we start with Episode 3?
- 2:11Yes, dead silence. I don't know where to start I.
- 2:23Well, I guess it's where. And I don't know Jude Law's
- 2:27character's name. I know that they refer to him as
- 2:29Red Handed Jack, but is his name John?
- 2:33Possibly he has a lot of aliases.
- 2:35Yeah. The thing that no, it's Crimson
- 2:39Jack, because I kept thinking Crimson Dawn every time they
- 2:43said his name, right? Is it?
- 2:46Yeah. I have to check now because I
- 2:48thought it was a Peter Pan reference.
- 2:51Oh, was it? See, I don't remember.
- 2:53I don't even recall a single detail from Peter Pan other than
- 2:58there's a girl in it. There's a girl in it.
- 3:03In a nightgown and they're on a boat or something.
- 3:06They fly away on a boat, out a window.
- 3:08That's all I know. Yeah, OK, I thought it was red
- 3:13handed Jack because I'm an idiot.
- 3:15Well. That's probably what you were
- 3:17thinking because of the the cross reference there with the
- 3:20Crimson and the red and the Jack in the in the hand and the.
- 3:23Yeah, because in. Peter Jack Handy.
- 3:25Jack Handy? Oh my God, that's a throwback.
- 3:28I used to have the like the Jack Handy books.
- 3:31Oh yeah. That's from like what, early
- 3:3690s, late 80s, early 90s? When I was in my prime.
- 3:40Yeah, yeah. All of 10 years old.
- 3:46Well I thought it was Crimson or red handed Jack because that's
- 3:51what Wendy decides to call herself if she's going to be a
- 3:54pirate in one version of Peter Pan, she's she's going to be red
- 3:58handed Jill, Jack and Jill. I see.
- 4:00Blah blah blah. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:01But apparently. I'm an idiot and totally
- 4:03misremember it was called so never mind.
- 4:07It totally makes sense why you thought that though, because of
- 4:11the red, you know. Well, and it's all like it's
- 4:14basically just a one giant love letter to Spielberg movies and I
- 4:19totally forgot that he did hook so.
- 4:22He did. He did do hook.
- 4:24He did do hook, yes. The only thing missing is Robin
- 4:26Williams. May he rest in peace.
- 4:29Yeah, I do love him. But Jude Law's intriguing the
- 4:34Jedi references and the Jedi he's obviously not right.
- 4:40It's just another guy's for him to fall under.
- 4:42Although can he use the Force because he must?
- 4:46I think so. I think he's force sensitive,
- 4:48but he's not a Jedi. I think the kids just projected
- 4:51Jedi on him and he was happy to not refute it.
- 4:54Sure, whatever you want to call me, I am, you know and I you
- 4:59know. And he wasn't wrong to say the
- 5:01force flows through all of us because it does.
- 5:03It's just some people know how to use it and tap into it.
- 5:05Other people just ignore it or don't feel it at all.
- 5:09It's just that all made sense to me.
- 5:11Apparently the the nerdy girl with the headset.
- 5:14She's my favorite character, believe it or.
- 5:16Not. She's the one I identify with.
- 5:19Like if I was a member of this like little crew of of children,
- 5:24I would probably be her, the one that thinks too much.
- 5:27I would be the elephant. Oh, but I love him so much.
- 5:32He has a heart of gold. He does.
- 5:35He's really precious. He's just an absolute precious
- 5:38character. He's the Sam.
- 5:39Get the Sam Gamge of this troupe of children for anyone who
- 5:46understands Lord of the Rings. I mean the again, the Sean Aston
- 5:51of the group. But yeah, I, I, I'm intrigued by
- 5:57Jude Laws. He obviously knows what's what,
- 6:01what what goes on. He knows some lore.
- 6:04He knows enough to get him in trouble and enough to get them
- 6:07out of trouble. He's he's a Jack of all trades.
- 6:10But we don't know what exactly he is or where he comes from or
- 6:14who, who do you work for? Like who?
- 6:18Whose side are you on? He's it's a lot of scum, a lot
- 6:22of scumbags, a lot of lot of what?
- 6:25What's the word like? Scallywag.
- 6:28Is that the word I'm looking? For.
- 6:29Yeah, Mayor Duels. I loved that port they were in
- 6:33just because I could have hung out there myself for a while.
- 6:35You could cry, gossip for days and.
- 6:38It's like Tortuga, right? Totally.
- 6:40So yeah, it was just children should not be set free to their
- 6:45own devices in a situation like that.
- 6:48And like they're, they're between a rock and a hard place.
- 6:51They don't know who to trust. I liked that they kept the kids
- 6:54very, like, at least the girls, very skeptical of what do we
- 6:59call him Jack? I don't know Jude Law.
- 7:03Jude Law. Jude.
- 7:04Let's call him Jude. Yeah, I remember the character's
- 7:08name. Kevin always says we need to
- 7:10watch with subtitles. And he's right, I should.
- 7:12But. He is right.
- 7:13He's always been right, he always will be right.
- 7:17I think he enjoys not telling the full truth.
- 7:21He's the only one who knows all of it, you know?
- 7:24And he's keeping both the kids and the audience in the dark,
- 7:27which is interesting. Yes.
- 7:28At first people were wondering, is it magnets?
- 7:31Is it like the character Haja from Kenobi?
- 7:35Right. And he's using illusion and the
- 7:37kids even said like mirrors, magnets, string, like you can
- 7:42pretend to have the force with all sorts of waste, but he
- 7:44really does seem to have it. It makes me wonder too, since
- 7:48the Empire was hunting for sensitive children for sure, and
- 7:52he's much older, so he must have been a child during the time of
- 7:57the Empire, or at least a young person.
- 8:00He would have had to hide. Oh, he would have been wise
- 8:03enough. I think someone like his
- 8:05character learns early on what to do, kind of like Jen Urso,
- 8:10where you're 1 amongst many. You learn what, what to do, what
- 8:15not to do, how to do it right. You know, you fly a little bit
- 8:19under the under under the radar, so to speak, that sort of thing.
- 8:24And I think he would have known pretty early on if he wasn't
- 8:27told like, you got to, you got to put this away.
- 8:29Yeah, you know. But he seems perfectly
- 8:32comfortable flaunting it now and using it in front of kids.
- 8:36And kids are not safe to tell secrets to, you know, Right.
- 8:41It makes me wonder a lot about his character.
- 8:44What kind of like, what is his motivation?
- 8:47He it seems like treasure. But it also seems I was
- 8:51suspicious that maybe he was working for somebody because he
- 8:55could have let himself out of that cell at any time.
- 8:58For sure for. Sure.
- 8:59So was this all a big setup? Granted, him going back for the
- 9:03Droid and the sound of the alarm that he broke out of jail, that
- 9:07didn't seem like it would be part of a plan, but it doesn't
- 9:10mean he's not in cahoots with somebody.
- 9:12For sure, they might not be a pirate, they might be someone
- 9:17higher up. I mean, what if it's Ventress?
- 9:22Wouldn't that be something that. 'D be interesting.
- 9:25You know, loyal to no one, but to the right person, she'll do a
- 9:29favor. He might be of the same mind,
- 9:32you know. Never.
- 9:33Know, I don't know, it was funny, it was cute, but also
- 9:38when he went back for the Droid, it was just kind of like, what's
- 9:42the point of this? Just to like start a chase?
- 9:45The chase was already happening without him being there because
- 9:48they had found out he had escaped already.
- 9:51I don't know, was it to build trust with the kids?
- 9:53It was just it was a little bit weak and unnecessary.
- 9:57Like a little side quest that so far hasn't proven to be.
- 10:01I mean, they needed the Droid, but I guess they.
- 10:04They did need the Droid they could have gotten.
- 10:06Him on their way off world like. Why think of it different way?
- 10:10They wait till they get back to the ship and then they're like,
- 10:12oh, we need the Droid. It's just like, OK, whatever,
- 10:16just go with that I guess. I thought it was weird how they
- 10:18went when he when Jude Law went into like where they kept the
- 10:22droids. It was like a hospital for
- 10:24droids. Yeah, or like Jabba's torture
- 10:26chamber where they like, are burning the droids with metal or
- 10:30something. Yeah, I was getting the vision
- 10:33like when C3PO and Empire Strikes Back is Dis, like he's
- 10:38Dis dismembered, I guess and and like Chewie has to go round,
- 10:43like get him up and move him. And he's all put together
- 10:46backwards and. Yeah, yeah, I was getting a
- 10:49vision of that, but it was a strange room.
- 10:52I feel bad for droids. Everyone's always hating on him.
- 10:55He's not very nice to them, is he?
- 10:57No, and not not in the charming way that K2 is nice to people,
- 11:02quote UN quote. You know, K2 was as loyal as
- 11:05they come. And that makes me very sad.
- 11:08It makes my heartbreak thinking about him and how good he was.
- 11:12But we'll see where this guy goes because he answers to a
- 11:15captain. And I don't know.
- 11:18If any of you all out there, please, please comment.
- 11:23Comment directly to us if you can answer this question.
- 11:29Has anyone out there seen the show Lex LEXX?
- 11:36I have not why? It's a cult.
- 11:41I don't even want to say favorite from like the late 90s,
- 11:45early 2000s. It's a terrible show.
- 11:47It's real campy, it's real cheap and it was a Canadian German
- 11:52sci-fi TV show. Nice.
- 11:55OK. OK, it's really over sexualized
- 11:59and over a lot of innuendos. OK for anyone, for the four
- 12:05people besides myself that have seen it, please tell me if you
- 12:09were getting Lex and Stanley vibes from this.
- 12:12This may be an obscure reference no one knows about, but it
- 12:16reminded me of the ship and the captain relationship from that
- 12:21show. The Droid answering only to the
- 12:24captain and I think that girl is super smart.
- 12:26Fern, she's really got it together.
- 12:29She's very confident. And then the realist part for me
- 12:32was in whichever episode it was where she breaks down because
- 12:35the weight of all of this is on her shoulders.
- 12:37Bitch, do I ever feel that in my soul?
- 12:41You know, the one that's expected to be at the top, like
- 12:43her mother, you know, her mother is expecting her to be
- 12:46everything and she can't be everything to everyone.
- 12:48And I felt that that was that was a very mature scene for a
- 12:53young person to have. I.
- 12:55Think so too, like you said, for both kids.
- 12:58Oh, for sure, yeah. We have this innocent one who
- 13:01thinks it's all fun and games. And then we have this one who's
- 13:03older than she seems or has been expected to be more mature than
- 13:06her age allows. And it's the struggle.
- 13:09It's like Luke and Leia, you know?
- 13:12And I do think that we'll see Wim catch up to her.
- 13:16Like, if he has any growth in this show, I think that those
- 13:19two will be on an even playing field at some point.
- 13:21And she will eventually befriend him in that way.
- 13:25Right now she's keeping everyone at arm's length except for her
- 13:27her her BFF there with the I can't wish I I'm trying.
- 13:31I'm doing pretty good with the names, but I can't remember.
- 13:34I'm terrible at them. I have no idea what their names
- 13:36are. Wim and Neil are the only ones I
- 13:38remember because they're. Sure, so hers is an initial
- 13:41isn't it? Like BD or B?
- 13:43Oh her her. Her name is KB.
- 13:46KB OK. I thought it was something like
- 13:48K All right. KB Fern, Wim, Neil and Crimson
- 13:55Jack. Correct.
- 13:58OK, although in IMDb he's listed as jod Nanay wood jod nanan jod
- 14:05jod Nana would Nana would. I don't know where that emphasis
- 14:10is on the syllable, so it's hard for me to know.
- 14:15OK. All right, JOD, not John.
- 14:19All right, that makes sense. Yeah.
- 14:21I have a theory now about why that ship was on at Aten.
- 14:30I was like, what's the planet called?
- 14:32Totally forgot. Oh man I was so confused in that
- 14:34one episode where they had at Dash whatever the planets it was
- 14:38at Akin and at Aten. I'm like damn, you couldn't have
- 14:40made this easier for my brain. Yeah, the I think it episode 4
- 14:46has a lot to dive into with lore.
- 14:51I have like mixed feelings about episode 4.
- 14:54I felt like it it added a lot right at the end.
- 14:57It like crammed a bunch of interesting stuff in like the
- 14:59last five minutes, but then the whole thing about the children
- 15:05at war dragged on a bit long I felt personally.
- 15:09Yeah, it didn't really go anywhere either in the end.
- 15:12Yeah, because Jod just showed up.
- 15:17Jack, Jod, Jude, he showed up with all the EO PS and they
- 15:21didn't have to do anything anyways.
- 15:22It was very strange. Yeah, it was very strange.
- 15:25Yeah, it like cut the scene real short.
- 15:27It felt kind of like one of the Jedi apprentice novels where Obi
- 15:32Wan goes and is part of the these children freedom fighters
- 15:36and some other planet. And I just like don't have any
- 15:39patience for it. I think the part that was nice
- 15:43was seeing Neil being sweet and realizing that he's still brave.
- 15:48Even though he is terrified, you know he's still.
- 15:50Yeah, but I don't like when people's kindness is labeled
- 15:53weak, because it's not. Well, and that's what she says
- 15:56at the end, that it's not weakness, it makes you kind.
- 15:59Yeah, I just hope that was absorbed by people.
- 16:02Yeah, he was just such a sweet so.
- 16:06And everyone else is kind of like fucking around with war
- 16:08toys, like it's gonna be a game. Until they realized that it's a
- 16:13real thing. Then you're going into battle.
- 16:15But then it wasn't real because Jude Law showed up, and then
- 16:18everybody was fine. Just like it was really strange.
- 16:21Yeah. What was the point of that?
- 16:22And then they end up at the end. Like that was the important part
- 16:26because we have not spent more time on that part like.
- 16:30Correct. I will tell you the only thing I
- 16:33really loved about these two episodes was that fucking owl
- 16:37cat. Yeah.
- 16:39At first I was like, what the fuck is this?
- 16:42And I'm like, no, this is kind of cool.
- 16:46It. Was very Harry Potter.
- 16:49It was like like a professor from Harry Potter.
- 16:53Or like a professor from Harry Potter mixed with Indiana Jones.
- 16:58Yeah, yeah, yes. I thought that was so fucking
- 17:02interesting and she was kind of a a total backstabber.
- 17:06But she's friends with X wing pilots, so who does she work
- 17:10for, right? Who she encodes with, right?
- 17:13Who's she reporting back? Who?
- 17:16Who get the joke? Well, in her little costume,
- 17:21kind of looks like an Empire costume.
- 17:24So was she like working for the Empire?
- 17:26Now she works for the Republic. What's her story?
- 17:29Her story is she's in competition with with Chronic
- 17:34for best Cape in Star Wars. She.
- 17:36Wins. I think everything about her is
- 17:40amazing. She did the whole like swoop in
- 17:43and the whole like, I don't she was she had such an interesting
- 17:48face because it was a cat's face, but she made noises that
- 17:52were neither cat nor owl. She's got all these like
- 17:57coordinates to shit. I need to know more.
- 18:00Ahsoka needs to go visit her. I actually.
- 18:02Had thought that. Yeah, I thought maybe there's
- 18:05some offhand connection to the good guys, if you will.
- 18:09She's an interesting one. The fact that she's just, she's
- 18:12just got X wing pilots on speed dial, you know, like it's just
- 18:17in her whole, the, the whole like astronomy setup and like
- 18:21she lives on a fucking moon. Like I think how do you get real
- 18:24estate like that? The first time ever in Star Wars
- 18:27that we've seen an observatory. Yes.
- 18:30How is this the first time? Right.
- 18:32It's been missed like this is you would assume would be very
- 18:35important, but I guess it's old fashioned because it's actually.
- 18:38I guess like, yeah. What's the word the opposite of
- 18:43digital Now I can't even remember.
- 18:44My brain is totally fried all the time.
- 18:47Analog. Thank you.
- 18:48It's an analog building and now they just use holograms in Star
- 18:51Wars. But.
- 18:52I think it's cool. Honest to God.
- 18:54I could talk to her character for hours and I, she was really
- 18:57nice at the end, yeah, saying like, if you need anything, you
- 19:01know who to call. She actually, her character very
- 19:04much reminded me of Ma. Is her name Moz in the sequel
- 19:08trilogy? Yeah, like, like a wise
- 19:11character who kind of is just off on their own a little bit,
- 19:14but knows the inside, Yeah, in a way, and has secrets and
- 19:18treasures and information and stuff.
- 19:20Maz Kanata. Yeah, yeah.
- 19:23I looked up who voiced her because she had such interesting
- 19:26voice. Did you ever?
- 19:27Owl joke again. Sorry, God.
- 19:32Have you ever watched Arrested Development?
- 19:35No, don't hate me. No, it's, it's OK.
- 19:38I don't know that. People have told me to watch.
- 19:40It I mean, it's the first couple seasons were funny.
- 19:43They probably don't hold up in today's outrage culture.
- 19:48But the the newer seasons were not funny at all.
- 19:51But she played maybe in that show.
- 19:53And so to see her like getting to do some fun stuff with Star
- 19:58Wars was really cool. And also Alfred Molina was in
- 20:02this as well, who's a super famous British actor.
- 20:05He was a voice of one of the pirates for just a few minutes.
- 20:09Oh, how did you know that? I just did.
- 20:12You just know that. Voice.
- 20:13Yeah, he's just. Oh wow, that's pretty good.
- 20:16He's a he's, he's a very good voice actor.
- 20:19He's a great actor, but he does have, he's got this very
- 20:22particular kind of British accent and I don't know.
- 20:25Yeah, he was great. It was, he was the little like
- 20:29also kind of like a bird, like an owl, bird hawk.
- 20:32I don't know the the character that found Jude Law in the
- 20:36Droid, the Droid room and they had like kind of a friendly
- 20:40exchange. But then it's like, did the guy
- 20:42turn him in? I think he did.
- 20:44It was hard to tell. It was hard to tell.
- 20:46He was a little. Are we talking about the
- 20:48character that landed on the shoulder?
- 20:50I got the vibes of the Kowakian monkeys that Matt Lanter voices
- 20:56in Clone Wars that Hondo has. You know, these little pet that
- 21:00crawls around. I was thinking of the same.
- 21:02Full size character I don't. Know oh, I'm thinking of that
- 21:05little like tree monkey that he's all hairy and skinny and
- 21:10weirdy. Wanted the payment.
- 21:11At the beginning he's the like fairy pilot I think at the.
- 21:14Yeah, he's the the little fairy man.
- 21:15So many strange characters in this.
- 21:20I felt like there was so many shout outs, like subtle shout
- 21:23outs in this. There were characters.
- 21:25Oh yeah. Like bays in in the port.
- 21:28The port had like was reminiscent to me of Jetta.
- 21:31Like the Jetta market? Yeah, yeah.
- 21:35Yeah. And then there was a character
- 21:37who ran by shouting that Jod had gotten free and he looked like a
- 21:42character from The Goonies. And then later at the very end
- 21:46when we, which we haven't started talking about yet, but
- 21:49when Smee, I'm gonna just call him Smee, the Droid starts
- 21:53talking about the history of Aunt Anne and that if anyone
- 21:57came looking, he was supposed to kill them.
- 22:00That was like Back to the Future.
- 22:02There's a scene with Biff that's exactly like that.
- 22:05And I just feel like there's so many Spielberg references and I,
- 22:10I, it's weird because at first I was like, I love that.
- 22:13And then I'm like, these are George Lucas movies.
- 22:18Yes, yes, why aren't we paying tribute to the man who created
- 22:21this shit in the 1st? Place And like I know Spielberg
- 22:24and Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy all produced together.
- 22:28They were a production team. Got it.
- 22:31But it. Seems a little weird.
- 22:33Maybe this is actually shout outs to Kathy Kennedy more than
- 22:37it is to Steven Spielberg. Because why are we doing
- 22:39Spielberg in in Star Wars movies?
- 22:41He was not related to those movies.
- 22:44I don't know, it's just it was a thought I had.
- 22:48So did you like the episodes? Then you know how we rated the
- 22:51last few? How would you rate these?
- 22:56I have mixed feelings about it. Like I I would say in general
- 22:58yes yes I enjoyed it. Episode 3 I found parts of it
- 23:02were weak but parts of it I really was intrigued by.
- 23:06I really loved the visuals of them landing on the moon and
- 23:09walking horizontally across. Like I gotta tell you, the the
- 23:13visuals in this show are pretty damn good.
- 23:16They're believable. Believable and very beautiful.
- 23:19Yeah, well thought out. You can tell they care to make
- 23:22it look a certain way and the references are just, I don't
- 23:26know. I, I like even the gas giant
- 23:28planet in the background it like look like Jupiter.
- 23:30We haven't seen a planet that looked like that yet, and that
- 23:32was really cool to see. We don't have a lot of gas
- 23:35giants in the Star Wars universe that are talked about, I guess
- 23:38because nothing goes on on them, right?
- 23:40You can't. You can't land on it, so yeah.
- 23:43Yeah, but no one ever references like going and hiding near one
- 23:46or, you know, even dumping garbage how they they do, they
- 23:49let it out through the vents and stuff.
- 23:51Like you'd think you would just send it into a gas planet so it
- 23:54could freeze or or burn up, I don't know.
- 23:57But yeah, it's it's cool to get to see different stuff.
- 24:01And, and when they were walking on the moon, I also noticed how
- 24:05really nice that shot was. I was like, this is not
- 24:08something we've gotten yet, which is hard to say.
- 24:11We're getting through a lot of stuff, new stuff in Star Wars.
- 24:14Yeah, it's very visually pleasing, I think.
- 24:17I'm like you, I have mixed feelings because like I started
- 24:20negative, right? And so now I'm trying to to
- 24:22climb up from that and I, I am. But like you, I thought parts
- 24:27drug on too much. The, the like the end of the
- 24:30last episode, episode 4 just kind of was like a flop.
- 24:33Well, the, the, the army part, like the, you know, walking with
- 24:37the sticks and you got to be brave and I'll go with you.
- 24:40And then it just didn't do anything.
- 24:42I was like, oh, that's disappointing, you know?
- 24:44There's a long sequence. Where I thought it was going was
- 24:49that Neil was going to talk to them and maybe reason with them
- 24:52and see how compromise is easy. I thought that was going to go
- 24:56like the kid would teach the adults something.
- 24:58Yes. And it didn't go that way, so.
- 25:00I thought that too. It was, it was kind of like a
- 25:02weird missed opportunity. I, I have these moments that
- 25:05stuck out to me and then turned out to be nothing.
- 25:09And I wonder if they're going to come back later.
- 25:12But when they landed on at Accredit yeah, Akron, OH we're.
- 25:19At Akron, yes. Jude Law said that he was like,
- 25:26tastes like ash and he's like, that's like what my planet was
- 25:29like where I grew up. I.
- 25:31Think like you referenced earlier, there's something more
- 25:34personal about finding whatever he's after.
- 25:37It's under this blanket layer of, oh, treasure, but he lost
- 25:43something else or is trying to gain something from his pat.
- 25:48There's always something. Yeah, you know.
- 25:50Well, and I wondered if he was from that planet because he was
- 25:54so quick to be able to negotiate with the other side.
- 25:58But they left that scene out. I did laugh really hard when he
- 26:00kneeled down and he was like just shoot me and.
- 26:03I was like, right, exactly. Relatable feels like that.
- 26:07And if, if General Grievous would have been there, he would
- 26:10have. So you got to be careful who you
- 26:13say that to in this damn universe.
- 26:15Yeah, Oh my gosh. But seriously, very relatable.
- 26:19Just I don't have the, I don't have the energy for this.
- 26:24I also noticed too the more SM33 was talking about and like kept
- 26:30saying I can't recall anything about that and then they started
- 26:34kind of opening up his memory. It's like first of all he was on
- 26:38at Aton. That ship was buried probably
- 26:41for a reason. If it was an accident or on
- 26:44purpose, whatever the case may be.
- 26:46Which means the person who left it there is probably still there
- 26:50and told the Droid, shut the Droid down, said you don't know
- 26:53anything, and then went like left to either blend into
- 26:58society or find the treasure by like blending into society.
- 27:03Not necessarily that they wanted to stay there for the rest of
- 27:05their lives, but who knows? Right, right.
- 27:09I think it has something to do with Fern's mother.
- 27:12I think there's something there. Yeah, see, I think it has to do
- 27:15with Wim's father. Oh, it maybe they're all.
- 27:18Maybe they're like a whole HOA that was stuck there.
- 27:24They're like a makeshift HOA and they all know the secret.
- 27:28No one's saying anything. They have to make up appearances
- 27:31and shit. Yeah.
- 27:32It could be because they're, they're all so good and they're
- 27:36all so committed to the idea. So it it's like either they came
- 27:42and colonized it and hit it for a reason, or they snuck in and
- 27:48I've blended into society to find the treasure that is, you
- 27:52know, mythological. So, and because Wim feels so
- 27:56bored and so ignored and he keeps feeling disappointed that,
- 27:59oh, it's almost over. It was just starting to get
- 28:01interesting. And it's like all along, your
- 28:03dad is the original pirate, you know, like.
- 28:06Yeah, yeah, exactly. I don't know.
- 28:09There's something there. There's.
- 28:11Something there and I'm and and the scene where all the parents
- 28:14were together talking, Wim's dad was the only one turned away and
- 28:19kind of not mentally engaged. Correct.
- 28:23He's he's, he's wrestling with something.
- 28:25Yeah. And at first I was like, oh, he
- 28:27feels like, you know, it's a lost cause and how would they
- 28:30ever find the children? And now I'm like, he knows about
- 28:33that pirate ship already, and he's trying to.
- 28:35Yeah. And he's wondering.
- 28:37That's my theory so far. Those those police droids, those
- 28:42things with the single I boy, I don't I don't want to get I
- 28:46don't want to get like non star Warsy, but that shit scares me.
- 28:49That's like AI. It's like the Tesla like robot.
- 28:55Do I sound like a boomer? Dude, I'm so freaked out by this
- 28:59stuff. I there's that like new Tesla
- 29:02robot that will help around your house, Your TV spies on you.
- 29:06Do you think Elon Musk's robot's not going to be taking notes
- 29:10about everything you like at your house?
- 29:13This fucking light block I was telling you about earlier turns
- 29:16on when I stand up. Who's watching me besides Google
- 29:20as your FBI agent? OK, well, listen here, FBI
- 29:23Frank, whatever your name is, leave me and my cat and my my
- 29:29Star Wars family alone. We don't want your kitchen help.
- 29:32We don't want your help anywhere.
- 29:35Don't want your kitchen help? Stay out of the kitchen.
- 29:41No, but those things that's that's a guy's too.
- 29:44That is a keep the peace so that you know, a Droid doesn't have
- 29:48any inflection in his voice. It doesn't have any feelings.
- 29:51It allegedly it doesn't. Have any it's?
- 29:53Programmed so they can program the Droid to say stay in the
- 29:57boundary, don't go above this, stay in here.
- 29:59Like how, how convenient is that for these adults if they're
- 30:04trying to hide something? I think that Jude Law's
- 30:07character knows all of them somehow.
- 30:09Somehow he he knows about. He's from one of those planets.
- 30:13Yeah, I think so. I think so.
- 30:16But and they they even reference when they when that owl Kim was
- 30:20saying. Yes, Kim.
- 30:21Kim the Owl. Cat, owl, cat, owl cat.
- 30:27I love her. She was the one mentioning that
- 30:29there were like multiple planets from the What did she say?
- 30:32It was the Old Republic, I can't remember.
- 30:34Yes, yeah, yeah. Yes, and that they were all
- 30:36hidden, but that some of them were destroyed.
- 30:39So he's probably from one of the destroyed planets.
- 30:42So what happened is what if we put our theories together, these
- 30:47other ones got destroyed. The survivors of the ones that
- 30:49got destroyed that didn't abandoned those kids on the AT,
- 30:52at Akron, wherever the fuck it is.
- 30:54They colonized this one and said nobody talk about the other ones
- 30:58because I bet you any money they all killed themselves.
- 31:00That is such a good theory. It's over like some stupid shit.
- 31:06Unless. Unless they were all ex empire
- 31:09people and they went to find a safe hold and they thought
- 31:13this'll do. That's an interesting theory
- 31:15too. I know that the mother of Fern
- 31:18said that she works for the New Republic or whatever, that they
- 31:20could just say that they don't know anything about the the
- 31:23actual war. Exactly the owl, the owl Kim
- 31:27which she was asking them details and the kids didn't know
- 31:30exactly. And they're like, what?
- 31:32Yeah, they were like Aldoran. And she's like, you don't know
- 31:37what happened to Aldoran. How do you not know what
- 31:41happened to Aldoran, bitch? Rest in peace, Aldoran.
- 31:45Gone but not forgotten. So they, the adults know about
- 31:48the New Republic, but the kids don't know anything about the
- 31:51war. So does that mean the adults
- 31:53came here to take shelter during the war?
- 31:56It's kind of like, have you seen the village?
- 32:00It's. Like the village, the adults, I
- 32:04didn't had all this terrible stuff happen to them.
- 32:07So they bought a piece of land, built a wall around it, lived
- 32:11like it was the olden times, had children, never told them the
- 32:14truth and let everybody think it was this community when really
- 32:18they're hiding from modern life. That's brilliant.
- 32:23That's what this is, that's what they're doing.
- 32:26That's. What it seems like it's like
- 32:28Neverland. OK, All right, there's hope yet.
- 32:37There's hope yet for this show. Listen, I'm going to keep.
- 32:39I'm going to keep watching. It didn't turn me off the last
- 32:43two episodes. I'm going.
- 32:43I'm in it. I'm in it, folks.
- 32:45I'm going to keep going. Well, do I like it?
- 32:47No. But this talk that we're having
- 32:49right now has me very intrigued to see where this ends up.
- 32:53Yeah, I'm excited to see. And again, is this supposed to
- 32:57be season 1? Is it a self-contained show?
- 33:00Because Accolade had lots of cool questions and that got
- 33:03fucking cancelled. So like, please, if, if it's if
- 33:08you're not sure there's a season 2 wrap up some loose ends for
- 33:12us, that would be super awesome. That would be awesome because
- 33:16you can't make us like these people and then not do anything
- 33:19with. I mean, they can, but that's not
- 33:21nice. It's.
- 33:24Not very polite, no. What would Neil say?
- 33:29He's our moral compass. He's.
- 33:32So fucking cute. I loved when he was asleep and
- 33:36he was snoring like a little elephant honks.
- 33:39No, I know, I know. Oh God, I want to go to their
- 33:45house for dinner. Can you imagine that whole
- 33:46family? Oh my God, they're so cute.
- 33:51Oh, I rate it. I rate these episodes a
- 33:54cumulative 7 out of 1010, being the highest.
- 33:59Yeah, I would too. There was enough there to
- 34:01intrigue me to want to keep watching.
- 34:03It's not like I felt with Acolyte where I was like excited
- 34:06to watch. It's like, Oh yeah, I'll, I'll
- 34:07watch that when I have a minute. That'll be cute.
- 34:11Have a cup of tea. Yes.
- 34:12Yeah, sit, sit in an airport for five hours, no problem.
- 34:16Yeah, exactly. But I'm I'm.
- 34:17Turned out to be enjoyable. I'm hoping that they keep going
- 34:20deeper and they keep putting some cool layers in.
- 34:23There's so much potential here. Yes, yes, yes.
- 34:26Don't throw it away like Episode 4's end.
- 34:29Exactly. Don't blow it, guys.
- 34:32Yeah. I will say Jude Law is very good
- 34:35though. He's fantastic.
- 34:36I mean, it's Jude Law. Yeah, he's fantastic.
- 34:39And I, I like you can tell he likes those kids.
- 34:42You know it was. Really cute when he, like,
- 34:45rescued them. And then he was saying like,
- 34:47well, how many furs and Neils? Like what?
- 34:49He's like, I'm just kidding. I'm kidding.
- 34:50Yeah, yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 34:51I know. I I, I do wonder, like how much
- 34:54of that was Jude in that, you know, I.
- 34:56Wonder that too. Is it part of the character?
- 34:59Is that just him like vibing with with the scenes?
- 35:02I think you've I think you vibes.
- 35:03I think he has a from what he said so far about the show, like
- 35:07offhand, I think he has a deep respect for his his Co workers,
- 35:10his Co, his Co characters, you know, like they're doing a
- 35:13really good job. Those kids are holding their
- 35:15own. Yeah.
- 35:15Each one is very identifiable with their own personality and
- 35:19their own core issues, if you will, their own struggles and
- 35:24that sort of thing. And like you said in the the
- 35:26previous episodes, the kids deserve to have a strong story
- 35:30and their own, their own part in this greater Star Wars thing.
- 35:35And I, I, I think so far so, so good with them.
- 35:38Yes. All right.
- 35:45This week our question is, what do you think Jude Law's
- 35:49character's background is? Like, is he a good guy?
- 35:52Is he a scoundrel? Was he part of a system of
- 35:56planets that got destroyed? And he's trying to find, Like
- 35:59what? What angle do you think his
- 36:02character is? Good guy, bad guy, scoundrel,
- 36:05innocent, innocent human in the universe just trying to find his
- 36:10way? Let us know, because we don't
- 36:12know. We're all guessing right now.
- 36:17We'll keep guessing next time. We're going to keep going with
- 36:21skeleton crews. So on our next episode, we will
- 36:23be reviewing episodes 5:00 and 6:00 because I think there's 8
- 36:27total, right? So we're halfway through.
- 36:30So join us back here next time for that.
