- 0:11Mere days after the Lee family had settled into their new abode
- 0:16nestled amongst the Pines, they are confronted with paranormal
- 0:21happenings. Initially, the disturbances seem
- 0:25harmless, as the couple's two young sons began to voice
- 0:30concerns about peculiar lights flickering in their rooms and
- 0:35eerie shadows dancing across the walls.
- 0:39But the situation takes an ominous turn when Steve and Beth
- 0:43themselves bear witness to disturbing and terrifying
- 0:48events. This is the untold story of the
- 0:53haunted House of the Black Forest in Colorado.
- 1:12There's an undeniable, almost supernatural call to the eerie
- 1:17and the unexplained that seems to emanate from the depths of
- 1:22dense Woodlands. The Black Forest, a vast expanse
- 1:28of towering trees and shadowy undergrowth, has been a breeding
- 1:33ground for creepy tales of the otherworldly.
- 1:38Amidst this foreboding landscape lies a dilapidated house.
- 1:43It's weathered walls and creaking floorboards, harboring
- 1:47secrets that have captured the imagination of paranormal
- 1:52enthusiasts across the nation. This isolated dwelling nestled
- 1:59deep within the Colorado wilderness has earned A
- 2:03reputation as one of the most haunted sites in the United
- 2:07States. It's very existence A testament
- 2:12to the enduring power of mystery and the unknown.
- 2:18The region referred to as the Black Forest is an
- 2:21unincorporated area situated in El Paso County, Colorado,
- 2:27nestled near the city of Colorado Springs.
- 2:31This area was traditionally known as the Pineries, a vast
- 2:35expanse spanning over 1000 miles, aptly named for the dense
- 2:42concentration of majestic ponderosa pine trees that
- 2:47blanketed the landscape. The Black Forest's remote and
- 2:51secluded nature, coupled with its towering evergreens and
- 2:56rugged wilderness, has long captivated those seeking
- 3:00solitude and a connection with the untamed beauty of nature.
- 3:06The secluded log cabin, nestled deep within the Black Forest
- 3:10region of Colorado, seemed like a tranquil Oasis for the Lee
- 3:14family when they first laid eyes on it in 1991.
- 3:20Stephen and Beth, along with their two sons, had relocated
- 3:24from Louisiana, seeking A serene escape amidst the towering Pines
- 3:30and pristine wilderness. The sparsely populated area,
- 3:34known for its slow paced lifestyle, crisp air, and
- 3:38breathtaking vistas, promised a dream home surrounded by
- 3:43untouched nature. Little did they know that this
- 3:47idyllic retreat would soon become a source of inexplicable
- 3:51occurrences and unsettling experiences that would forever
- 3:57alter their perception of the supernatural.
- 4:01About the Lee's. Steven Lee, a father, husband
- 4:06and truck driver had done well for his family and wanting a
- 4:12change of scenery they found what they believed to be their
- 4:16dream home, A6000 square foot three story cabin located within
- 4:24the Black Forest situated on five acres of land.
- 4:29Steven and his wife Beth, with every step as they surveyed the
- 4:34property could envision their two young sons playing and
- 4:39growing up there, their own little piece of the American
- 4:43dream. So it took a little bit of time,
- 4:48but their offer on the home was ultimately accepted and within
- 4:53the coming months, they would soon call this secluded place
- 4:57home. However, they would fail to
- 5:00realize that it wasn't just inhabited by the family of four.
- 5:06The first week at their new residence seemed like something
- 5:10out of a fairy tale. Mom, dad, and the kids were all
- 5:16comfortable and very happy after making the long trek from
- 5:20Louisiana to Colorado. The family themselves seemed
- 5:25happy and content with their decision.
- 5:29However, this would change. The Lee's two young sons shared
- 5:36a room, as brothers often do at a young age, and roughly after
- 5:41their first week, they began to tell their parents that
- 5:45something strange was happening in their bedroom.
- 5:49Bright, colorful lights flashed about and terrifying shadowy
- 5:55spectres float across their walls.
- 5:59These strange happenings frightened the boys and often
- 6:02kept them awake. So of course, they told their
- 6:06parents. However, often in these
- 6:10situations they were dismissed. Beth and Steve simply believed
- 6:16that the boys had overactive imaginations and figured it
- 6:20would just take time for them to adjust their new environment.
- 6:24But this too would change mere weeks later.
- 6:29Upon coming home from an evening of fun as a family, they would
- 6:34arrive to see their home lighting inside with strange
- 6:38lightning like flashes of light. They could see the spectacle
- 6:43from their driveway. In the words of Beth.
- 6:48One day we came home and it was like the 4th of July.
- 6:52In our living room and bedroom. We had all sorts of colorful
- 6:57flashes of light seemingly everywhere.
- 7:01We rushed inside to figure out just what these things were and
- 7:06simultaneously it sounded like people were stomping across our
- 7:11roof and all of a sudden it stopped.
- 7:16Never having seen anything like this before, the Lees were
- 7:20simply perplexed and not sure of what to make of this activity.
- 7:26They would lay their heads down to sleep this night, but what
- 7:29they failed to realize is that this was just a prelude of what
- 7:34was to come. In the coming months, the
- 7:38activity grew in intensity. What started as phantom lights
- 7:43and flickering shadows had escalated into something taking
- 7:48place almost every single day. From disembodied banging sounds
- 7:54to whispers, the sound of change dragging on the floor or even
- 8:00inside the walls to pushing, assaulting and disturbing the
- 8:07family. Sadly, the Lee's young sons were
- 8:11more often than not the targets of this paranormal force that
- 8:15plagued them night after night. And almost every night they were
- 8:21harassed by shadow people, the reappearance of the mysterious
- 8:25lights, and the awful banging sounds of something unseen.
- 8:32The family did their best to make the situation work.
- 8:36They, after all, were newly tied up financially in the purchase
- 8:40of what they believed was going to be their forever home.
- 8:44But it was something big or small nearly every day now that
- 8:48was taking place during the day, Appliances began to turn on and
- 8:53off on their own accord. This was attributed to an
- 8:57electrical issue at first, but after having the home examined
- 9:02by multiple electricians, they found no faulty wiring.
- 9:07Alongside electrical appliances, faucets began to turn on by
- 9:12themselves, often making a wet mess in whatever room they were
- 9:17activated in During the night. The re emergence of the lights,
- 9:23movement of the shadow people and the sounds truly haunted
- 9:28them and these disturbing happenings were soon coupled by
- 9:33something new and equally terrible.
- 9:37A noxious chemical odor began to appear in the home with no
- 9:42rational origin. The smell of these mystery
- 9:46chemicals burned the nose, eyes and throats of everyone whenever
- 9:52it appeared. In the coming days, yet more
- 9:57professionals would be called out, and yet nothing, no origin
- 10:02of the chemicals or detection of them either, could be found.
- 10:08It seemed that whatever force that dwelled within the walls of
- 10:11the cabin home in the woods had a particular hatred for the Lee
- 10:16family, and this force soon began to physically hit all of
- 10:21them, seemingly whenever it could, often leaving bruises.
- 10:27Not a believer in the paranormal, Steve Lee having had
- 10:31professionals come out and not provide any rational answers to
- 10:36their strange ailments. This, coupled with the now daily
- 10:40torment that he and his family were enduring, had finally
- 10:45reached his wit's end. He wanted to prove that either
- 10:49there was someone or something messing with them, and over the
- 10:54coming year he invested in a total of $70,000 worth of camera
- 11:00equipment and security equipment to monitor every square inch of
- 11:05their home and property. Now you might think that that's
- 11:10an incredible amount of money to spend on cameras and alarm
- 11:13systems, and it is, but this was the 90's.
- 11:18The equipment wasn't as readily available or sophisticated as it
- 11:22is today, and it just goes to show that they were truly
- 11:25freaked out by whatever was taking place, that they wanted
- 11:30some kind of tangible proof that they could show the world so
- 11:34people didn't think that they were crazy.
- 11:38The cameras, which were mostly motion activated and would
- 11:42record when motion was detected, soon began to activate with no
- 11:47rational explanation and no physical means to be detected.
- 11:54After capturing several strange things on video and photograph,
- 11:59Steve decided to contact the local authorities for help.
- 12:03Records show that the El Paso police were contacted so often
- 12:07by the Lees in the months to come that they launched a formal
- 12:11investigation into just what was taking place at the cabin home
- 12:16in the Black Forest. During this time and the two
- 12:21years to follow, Alongside the cameras, their security
- 12:26equipment, which could detect motion enforced entry was
- 12:31triggered 62 times with no explanation as to what could be
- 12:36causing it. It wasn't faulty equipment or
- 12:40poor installation. It was oddly something else,
- 12:45something unexplainable. With not even the police able to
- 12:49rationalize what was happening to the Lees, Beth and Steve
- 12:53decided to take things one step further.
- 12:56They hired a private investigator.
- 12:59This was in part due to the police also growing tiresome of
- 13:03being contacted for assistance and then there being nothing
- 13:07that they could do about it. Between the cameras and security
- 13:12equipment and now hiring a private investigator, the Lees
- 13:16had all but spent the rest of their life savings.
- 13:20Most people, if it ever came to this, would simply try and cut
- 13:25their losses and sell the home, and we don't know if the lease
- 13:29could have sold the home and moved elsewhere, but they truly
- 13:34still believed that this massive cabin home was their dream home
- 13:38and they didn't want to give it up without a fight.
- 13:42Unfortunately though, the private investigator was unable
- 13:46to help them. This left the Lees to simply
- 13:49tough out anything and everything that they had and
- 13:52were continuing to experience. After moving in in 1991, the
- 13:59year now was 1995 and the activity had persisted despite
- 14:05the efforts of the Lee family to uncover just what was causing
- 14:09it. Steve, who still figured there
- 14:13had to be a rational explanation for what was taking place, had a
- 14:17little bit more of an open mind. After a lengthy discussion with
- 14:21Beth, seemingly having done everything else, the Lees
- 14:26concluded that they would try and contact paranormal
- 14:29investigators to see if they could do anything about the
- 14:32otherworldly happenings taking place in their home.
- 14:37After some research and calling numerous numbers the Lees ended
- 14:41up getting in contact with a person would end up being
- 14:45involved with the television show Sightings.
- 14:49Sightings was an American paranormal and new show that
- 14:52aired throughout the 1990s covering various unexplained and
- 14:58French phenomena. As a result of this pretty lucky
- 15:01interaction, the show became very interested in producing an
- 15:05episode segment about hauntings surrounding the investigation of
- 15:10the Lee home. The show would contact a
- 15:13paranormal investigator in a self-proclaimed psychic in
- 15:17Minneapolis, MN named Echo Bodine from her book The Little
- 15:23Book of True Ghost Stories. Echo would explain her
- 15:26experience as the following. I got a call from the TV show
- 15:32Sightings and they wanted to know if I would fly to Colorado
- 15:36Springs to help a family deal with some ghosts.
- 15:40The producers told me that the problem was the ghost mostly
- 15:44seemed to come out at night. So I was asked to work from
- 15:47midnight until the early Daybreak hours.
- 15:51It was a very hot day in mid-july When I arrived in
- 15:55Denver around 10:00 PM. It was pretty eerie.
- 16:00There was intense lightning all throughout the sky and rain
- 16:03pouring down. I remember thinking how perfect
- 16:07the spooky weather was for investigating hauntings.
- 16:12Steve, the owner of the log home, was at the airport to pick
- 16:15me up. He was very open about not
- 16:19believing in ghosts, and as we drove through several towns in
- 16:23Colorado, I listened to him tell me story after story about some
- 16:28of the things that had gone on in their house.
- 16:32They heard voices, footsteps, things would move from room to
- 16:37room. It took close to an hour to get
- 16:40up to their house in the mountains and alongside the
- 16:44rain, a fog hung about 10 feet off the ground.
- 16:49When we arrived and I entered their three story log cabin home
- 16:53from here, I was greeted by a producer who asked me if I could
- 16:58take a seat while the scientist they had hired told us about his
- 17:02thermal camera. Having been tired from the trip.
- 17:07I laid my head back while the explanations were continuing and
- 17:11suddenly I heard a voice come from behind me.
- 17:16It said hey, come here. Upon turning around, I saw a
- 17:22large ghostly man about 6 feet tall.
- 17:27The specter was wearing blue jeans in a blue checkered
- 17:31flannel shirt. I then heard in unison multiple
- 17:34voices tell me to look over here and now.
- 17:39There was 5 male spirits, all different but dressed the same
- 17:44as the first. The original ghost said that his
- 17:48name was Tom and that this was his house, that no one was going
- 17:54to make him leave. He ran the show around here and
- 17:58had for a long time. I told the producer what was
- 18:02happening in case he wanted to capture anything for the segment
- 18:07and he did. The conversation then ensued
- 18:12with Tom explaining why he and the boys wanted to stay in the
- 18:15house, that it was his land, his home, and that he would not
- 18:21leave. One of the cameramen then asked
- 18:24if it was one of them who'd been responsible for knocking over
- 18:28his very expensive camera off the countertop.
- 18:32All 5 in unison answered yes and then disappeared out of sight.
- 18:39The scientist with the thermal camera did in fact capture a
- 18:43drop in temperature just a right where Tom had stood around 2:00
- 18:49AM in the morning. As me and Beth discussed the
- 18:52activity that she had experienced, the dogs the family
- 18:56owned would not stop barking outside.
- 19:00The producers, in an effort to keep their sounds from being
- 19:04picked up on the camera, tried to quiet them down, but simply
- 19:08weren't having any luck. Then, upon Beth showing me a
- 19:12photo of what they had captured on their own cameras, we
- 19:17suddenly were in the midst of three male spirits, one with a
- 19:22particularly angry scowl upon his face.
- 19:26One of them walked through both of us, causing us to jump out of
- 19:30our chairs, while the other angry looking spirit tried to
- 19:36take my breath away. I believe he did this to stoke
- 19:40fear from me in order to grow more powerful, and this worked
- 19:46because I felt as if I was being suffocated.
- 19:49By 3:30 AM, we all decided to not focus on ghosts for a bit
- 19:55and to try and lighten the mood. We turned the cameras off and
- 19:59began eating some food in which Beth had prepared for us.
- 20:04But almost as soon as we began to relax, one of the camera
- 20:09women who'd been sitting on the stairs began to hyperventilate.
- 20:14She then jumped up and screamed get it out of me as she fell
- 20:19down the stairs and onto the floor writhing in pain.
- 20:25The producers asked for me to do something, so with the
- 20:29assistance of others, I helped her up and into a chair in the
- 20:34kitchen and I began to burn sage and circling her in the smoke.
- 20:41I asked her to say back to me that she was clear until she
- 20:46calmed down. It took about 20 minutes, but
- 20:50she eventually relaxed. She then was given a ride back
- 20:55to the hotel and I never saw or heard from her again.
- 21:00By now it was 4:30 AM and we were waiting for the camera crew
- 21:05of the show to finish setting up their equipment in the bedrooms
- 21:10where the majority of activity was seeming to take place.
- 21:14One of Steve's friends, who had been present most of the night,
- 21:18came up and handed me a brochure about the history of the local
- 21:22area. To my surprise, he told me that
- 21:26a man named Tom had been the sheriff here back in the 1800s.
- 21:32I felt shivers up my spine as I realized that this was the same
- 21:37Tom that now haunted the Lee's home.
- 21:41Roughly 5:00 AM, as we set off to investigate the last bedroom,
- 21:46I walked into the room and saw there in the rocking chair in
- 21:50the corner who would turn out to be Beth's deceased grandmother.
- 21:56And on the opposite side of the room was Tom and the several
- 22:01male spirits under his control. We ended up burning sage and
- 22:06asking them all to move on to the other side.
- 22:10They all did leave the building, but I'm not convinced that they
- 22:13moved on. At about 6:00 AM, we finally
- 22:18finished saging the entire house.
- 22:21Exhausted, we packed up our equipment and went back to our
- 22:25respective hotels. I've spoken to Steve and Beth
- 22:29since and they informed me that activity at the cabin persisted
- 22:34shortly after our departure and that although not fully
- 22:37convinced, Steve is convinced that there are things in this
- 22:41world that we will never truly understand.
- 22:46Sightings would do a follow up episode segment years later with
- 22:49the Lees where they brought in several spiritualists and an
- 22:54expert in hyperdimensional studies and all would come to
- 22:58the conclusion that the home was indeed haunted.
- 23:03The expert would draw the conclusion that the home sat
- 23:06atop an interdimensional vortex and coinciding with his
- 23:11conclusion. Interestingly, a Hopi elder from
- 23:15the local area would also explain that the Black Forest
- 23:19sits on top what the Hopi call a rainbow vortex, a raging storm,
- 23:26a portal of sorts that contains great spiritual energy and the
- 23:31coming and going of many souls. Sometimes they burn out over
- 23:37time and sometimes they don't. They are considered gateways
- 23:42between the world of the living and the spirit realm.
- 23:47Some strange and noteworthy things that took place during
- 23:50the second filming of the show. Sightings at the Lee's residence
- 23:54was that a paranormal investigator had asked anyone if
- 23:58the name Howard bore any significance to them.
- 24:02The Lees were surprised because one of their best friends in
- 24:05Colorado Springs was a man named Howard.
- 24:09The entity then told the investigator, who relayed the
- 24:12information to everyone, that he was Howard's son and that he in
- 24:17fact had not killed himself, but rather had been murdered.
- 24:23This disturbed the Lees a great deal because Howard's son had
- 24:27supposedly taken his own life by consuming deadly chemicals
- 24:33working as a chemist. The stories and reputation of
- 24:37the home got such a local buzz from the press that even a
- 24:41Colorado Senator by the name of Charles Duke visited the home
- 24:46with his own camera crew and would snap a few photographic
- 24:49pieces of evidence of apparitions.
- 24:53To his and everyone else's surprise, Senator Duke was so
- 24:57convinced of the Lee's haunting that he even contacted the FBI
- 25:01to conduct a formal investigation.
- 25:05But the Bureau would rebuttal with no federal laws have been
- 25:09broken. Years later, after everything
- 25:13had happened, Steve Lee, who still wasn't fully convinced of
- 25:18the supernatural, came to his own conclusions as to what was
- 25:22taking place. And for the record, it's a wild
- 25:27theory. He began to believe that the
- 25:30government was using his family and their remote location to
- 25:35test biological agents and psychological weapons of war.
- 25:41He claims he has even photographed military personnel
- 25:45on his property with firearms and claims that they may have
- 25:49been shutting off the electricity in this home so they
- 25:53could enter undetected. These claims, although far
- 25:57fetched, would be incredibly disturbing if true, and it would
- 26:02account for the noxious odors the family said they were
- 26:05experiencing as well as the lights and some sounds.
- 26:11But oddly enough as well, the Air Force Base is located just a
- 26:16few minutes away where the Lees live.
- 26:20The Lees, as far as we know after placing the home for sale
- 26:24in 2010, no longer live there. The current residents are
- 26:29unknown, but it seems as if the property has changed hands
- 26:33multiple times. Whether it was ghosts, the
- 26:38result of what the Hopi call a rainbow vortex, or more
- 26:42sinisterly, the result of government military Black Ops,
- 26:48The Haunting of Black Forest Colorado is truly an intriguing
- 26:53tale. And if you find yourself seduced
- 26:56by what you could consider your dream home, take caution because
- 27:02this calling might just be a siren sound.

- 27:39Cody here at Mystery Archives. Remember to please stay safe out
- 27:43there and take care. There are certain realms of the
- 27:52paranormal and unexplained that seem to capture our imagination
- 27:57more than others, weaving themselves into legend and
- 28:01folklore, yet occasionally emerging as potential realities.
- 28:07One such entity that appears to dwell solely in the realm of
- 28:11fiction and fantasy is the vampire.
- 28:16However, despite the seemingly mythical nature of these
- 28:20immortal blood drinking beings, there are instances that Surface
- 28:25has purported encounters with these creatures, and one such
- 28:30account allegedly occurred in the tranquil English
- 28:33countryside. It is a tale that has become a
- 28:36curious part of local lore and a historic anomaly still discussed
- 28:42to this day. This is the untold story of the
- 28:45Crawglin Grange vampire in the idyllic countryside of
- 29:01Cumberland, northwest England. This tale began unfolding in
- 29:061875. It was that spring when two
- 29:10brothers, Edward and Michael Cranswell, along with their
- 29:14sister Amelia, ventured to this region and temporarily took up
- 29:19residence in a modest single home stone farmhouse known as
- 29:24the Kroglin Grange. Overlooking the picturesque
- 29:28valley and nestled near an ancient churchyard, the property
- 29:33owned by the Fisher family seemed to draw the siblings in.
- 29:37Initially intending a brief stay, the Cranswells found
- 29:41themselves captivated by the serene rural life, swiftly
- 29:45becoming familiar faces among the locals.
- 29:48Their initial plans for a fleeting visit gradually
- 29:52dissipated as an inexplicable force seemed to compel them to
- 29:57linger. The townspeople, unaware of the
- 30:00undercurrents brewing beneath the surface, welcomed the
- 30:04siblings with open arms, oblivious to the veil that hid
- 30:09their true intentions. That sweltering summer, an
- 30:13ominous presence seemed to linger, casting a shadow over
- 30:17the quaint farmhouse. As the relentless heat wave
- 30:21persisted, Amelia found herself tossing and turning, growing
- 30:26more and more uncomfortable with the shutters flung open in a
- 30:30desperate attempt to coax in a cooling breeze.
- 30:34She lay awake, her gaze fixated on the inky blackness that
- 30:38shrouded the trees beyond. It was then that something
- 30:42caught her eye, a faint flickering that danced among the
- 30:46branches, gradually intensifying as it drew nearer. 2 pen pricks
- 30:53of light weaved their way through the darkness, their
- 30:56approach sending a chill down Amelia's spine.
- 31:00Despite the stifling heat. A sense of foreboding gripped
- 31:05her, an inexplicable dread that she could not explain.
- 31:11As the eerie lights drew closer, Amelia felt the dread growing
- 31:16and enveloping her, a thick and palpable fear that gripped her
- 31:21very being. The source of the flickering
- 31:25illumination emerged from the shadows behind the window pane,
- 31:30revealing a grotesque facade, a hideous brown face with blazing
- 31:37eyes that leered menacingly at her.
- 31:41Its clawed hands began to scratch at the glass, desperate
- 31:46to gain entry, though fortunately, the window remained
- 31:50locked. Amelia found herself paralyzed,
- 31:55her voice trapped in her throat, unable to utter a sound as she
- 32:00trembled in silent terror, transfixed by the monstrous
- 32:05entity outside. As the creature's attempts to
- 32:09open the window escalated from mere scratches to peeling away
- 32:15the lead that sealed the pain's edges.
- 32:19Amelia's mind raced with unspeakable horrors, unable to
- 32:24comprehend just who or what sought to breach her sanctuary.
- 32:30When the window pane shattered onto the floor, the Bony claw
- 32:35like hand reached through, deftly unlocking the latch from
- 32:42within. Amelia's voice remained trapped,
- 32:46still paralyzed as a towering, shadowy figure glided across the
- 32:52room. It seized her in its embrace,
- 32:56grasping her hair and forcibly yanking her head back, exposing
- 33:02her vulnerable throat. Despite her desperate attempts
- 33:06to move or cry out, she thus remained petrified, helpless
- 33:12against this monster. As the creature bent down, its
- 33:17teeth poised to Pierce her flesh, the searing pain finally
- 33:22unleashed a piercing scream that echoed throughout the night.
- 33:27Jolted awake by their sisters terrified cries, Edward and
- 33:32Michael Cranswell sprang into action, rushing towards Amelia's
- 33:37room. With a forceful thrust, they
- 33:40broke down the door only to witness a chilling sight, that
- 33:45shadowy figure swiftly escaping through the shattered window.
- 33:51Without hesitation, one of the brothers grabbed a fire poker
- 33:55and gave chase, determined to confront the intruder.
- 34:01However, the entity moved with an unnatural swiftness, its
- 34:06strides unnervingly long and inhuman as it leapt over the
- 34:12ancient church wall, disappearing into the Knights
- 34:16embrace. The brothers were left
- 34:20bewildered and unsettled. Amelia, shaken and bleeding from
- 34:26her neck, recounted the harrowing ordeal.
- 34:31Initially, she attributed the attack to a deranged individual,
- 34:35perhaps an escaped asylum patient, her mind unable to
- 34:40comprehend the true nature of the assailant.
- 34:44The notion of a vampire, a creature of myth and legend,
- 34:49seemed too fantastical to consider.
- 34:53Deeply concerned for their sister's well-being, the
- 34:56Cranswell brothers decided to whisk Amelia away from the once
- 35:00peaceful, now terrifying confines of the Krawgling
- 35:04Grange. A long vacation in Switzerland,
- 35:07they hoped, would provide her with the respite and recovery
- 35:13she desperately needed, allowing her to regain her strength and
- 35:18put the traumatic experience behind her.
- 35:22As they departed, an air of uncertainty lingered, the sense
- 35:27that the tranquil countryside harbored A sinister presence, a
- 35:31force that defied rational explanation.
- 35:35The events of that night had left more questions than answers
- 35:40in their wake. When they returned to Krawglin
- 35:43Grange the following autumn, the memory of that traumatic night
- 35:49did not leave the family. With time, the siblings were
- 35:53determined to confront any sinister force that remained.
- 35:57The brothers meticulously arranged their sleeping quarters
- 36:01directly across from Amelia's room, ensuring A watchful eye
- 36:06over her safety. Pistols were strategically
- 36:10placed within reach, just in case the creature did rear its
- 36:14head again. Amelia, still bearing the scars
- 36:18of the original attack, diligently secured her shutters
- 36:22each evening, fortifying her chambers.
- 36:26For a time, an eerie calm seemed to settle the countryside abode,
- 36:32lulling them into a false sense of security.
- 36:36The winter months passed without incident, however, as the first
- 36:42blossoms of spring unfurled the familiar cold wind Harold the
- 36:48soon return of the creature. One evening Amelia's slumber was
- 36:55once again disrupted by the hauntingly familiar sound, a
- 37:00scratching and tapping against her window, now fortified with
- 37:06shutters to shield her from the horrific visage that lurked
- 37:10beyond. Bracing herself for the worst
- 37:14yet clinging to the hope that it was merely an animal's doing,
- 37:18she mustered the courage to peer through the narrow gap at the
- 37:21top of the pane, left uncovered by the shutters protective
- 37:26barrier. There, hunched menacingly at her
- 37:30window, was the same wretched creature she had encountered
- 37:35before it, shriveled, grotesque appearance and burning amber
- 37:41like eyes glaring. This time Amelia's voice did not
- 37:46fail her, and she screamed as loud as she could, a desperate
- 37:51cry that jolted her brothers into immediate action.
- 37:56They burst forth from the house, pistols loaded and ready in a
- 38:02frantic pursuit. They allegedly managed to strike
- 38:05the creature in the leg as it fled, but its unnatural speed
- 38:09and agility allowed it to evade their grasp.
- 38:14Undeterred, it fled towards the nearby graveyard, disappearing
- 38:19into the depths of the ancient crypt.
- 38:22Again, the brothers knew that they couldn't face the creature
- 38:26alone. The previous night's encounter
- 38:29had shaken them to their core, and the realization that others
- 38:33in the area had experienced similar harrowing visitations
- 38:39only added to the sense of unease that gripped them.
- 38:43Whispers of drained livestock and a young girl bearing
- 38:47inexplicable bite wounds spread like wildfire, fueling
- 38:52speculation that they were confronting a force beyond
- 38:56comprehension. The Cranswell brothers rallied
- 39:00the locals, imploring any able bodied individuals to join their
- 39:06crusade. As the sun swept over the
- 39:09horizon, the small band of locals gathered, armed with an
- 39:14array of makeshift weapons, ready to confront the sinister
- 39:18creature that had plagued their once peaceful hamlet, their
- 39:24footsteps echoing through the ancient graveyard.
- 39:28As they approached the ominous crypt where the creature had
- 39:33sought refuge, the air hung heavy with a palpable sense of
- 39:38dread, as if the very stones themselves harbored secrets best
- 39:44left undisturbed. Yet, driven by a burning
- 39:48curiosity and a desire to restore tranquility to their
- 39:53community, they pressed on. As they neared the Crips
- 39:58entrance, a hush fell over the group.
- 40:02The brothers exchanged a resolute glance, their grip
- 40:06tightening around their weapons. As they prepared to venture into
- 40:10the abyss, as they crossed a threshold into the gloomy crypt,
- 40:16a chill ran down their spines. Their torchlight cast eerie
- 40:20shadows across the defiled graves, coffins torn asunder,
- 40:26their contents strewn half hazardly across the stone floor.
- 40:31A sense of unease gripped them, yet amidst the desecrated
- 40:36resting places, one coffin remained untouched.
- 40:41With bated breath, they pried open the lid, and what greeted
- 40:45them was a sight that would forever be etched into their
- 40:49memories. There, lying motionless within
- 40:53the confines of the coffin, was the very creature that had
- 40:58terrorized them. Its features now doled as if
- 41:03trapped in a trance like state. A fresh bullet wound marred its
- 41:08leg, a testament to the brothers earlier pursued, but it seemed
- 41:13to have little effect on the entity's unnatural existence.
- 41:18Realization dawned upon them, a chilling certainty that they
- 41:23were indeed confronting a vampire, a creature of myth and
- 41:27legend now made flesh before their very eyes.
- 41:33The whispering tales that had once seemed like mere folklore
- 41:37now took on a terrifying reality.
- 41:40The brothers knew that they could not allow this abomination
- 41:43to continue its reign of terror. Swiftly, they set about
- 41:48gathering the necessary materials, determined to purge
- 41:52the entity from their midst once and for all.
- 41:56The crackling flames cast a glow upon their faces as they
- 42:01prepared to consign the creature to the cleansing fire, a ritual
- 42:06that would hopefully bring an end to the harrowing ordeal.
- 42:11As the flames licked at the creature's form, the brothers
- 42:15and their companions watched with a mixture of trepidation
- 42:19and relief, knowing that they had vanquished a force that had
- 42:24threatened to unravel the very fabric their existence.
- 42:29The smoke curled upwards, carrying with it the lingering
- 42:33remnants of a mystery that had once seemed unfathomable, yet
- 42:39had now been laid to rest, forever etched into the annals
- 42:44of local lore. This rather dramatic and
- 42:48sensational tale was initially recounted by the English travel
- 42:52writer and author Augustus Hare, who included it in his multi
- 42:58volume 1890s autobiography The Story of My Life under the
- 43:04section titled The Beast of Crogling Grange.
- 43:09The narrative reads like a chilling Horror Story, and given
- 43:13that Hare was known for publishing ghost accounts during
- 43:16an era when sensationally macabre and gothic pulp stories
- 43:21known as penny dreadfuls were popular fiction, However, Hare
- 43:27presented it as a completely real and factual account without
- 43:32any indication that it was a fabrication.
- 43:35According to him, he had personally heard the story in
- 43:381874 directly from the actual owner of Crocklin Grange,
- 43:45Captain Edward Fisher Rowie, whose family had owned the
- 43:49property for generations. However, Hare neglected to cite
- 43:53many names or detailed locations or provide verifiable sources,
- 44:00leaving the reader to ponder the veracity of the events
- 44:04described. Since Hare never admitted that
- 44:07any part of it was fictional and consistently presented it as
- 44:11fact, the account has become a perplexing mystery, sparking
- 44:16endless debates as to whether any element of it is rooted in
- 44:20truth or if it was a product of either Hair's or Fisher's
- 44:25imagination. One of the earliest skeptics to
- 44:28scrutinize his published work was Charles George Harper, an
- 44:33English author and illustrator. Harper embarked on a personal
- 44:38quest to Cumberland in 1924, determined to get to the bottom
- 44:43of the alleged events at Crawglin Grange.
- 44:47However, his investigation yielded perplexing results.
- 44:52As Harper delved into the heart of the local community, he
- 44:56encountered A startling revelation.
- 44:59Not a single resident had ever heard of a place called Krogling
- 45:03Grange, nor could they recall any whispers of its existence.
- 45:08It seemed as though this location had vanished into the
- 45:12mist of time, leaving no tangible trace behind,
- 45:17undeterred. Harper scoured the.
- 45:19Countryside seeking any semblance of the dwelling
- 45:23described in Hare's account, the closest he could uncover was a
- 45:28structure known as Kroglin Low Hall.
- 45:31Yet its characteristics diverged significantly from the haunting
- 45:36depiction. Not only was it situated over a
- 45:39mile from the nearest church, but it stood as a two-story
- 45:43edifice, defying the single story description of the Grange.
- 45:48Moreover, the adjacent cemetery bore no evidence of the sinister
- 45:53crypt that had allegedly harbored the malevolent entity.
- 45:58Harper's quest to substantiate the existence of the Cranswell
- 46:02siblings proved equally fruitless.
- 46:06Despite his meticulous efforts, he could find no records or
- 46:11accounts that corroborated their presence in the region.
- 46:15Compounding this perplexity was the scarcity of clear
- 46:19information provided in Hare's narrative, rendering any attempt
- 46:24to trace their footsteps an exercise in futility.
- 46:28As Harper's investigation drew to a close, he found himself
- 46:32confronted with more questions than answers.
- 46:36The tale of the Kroglin Grange vampire, once presented as an
- 46:41unvarnished account of a supernatural encounter, now
- 46:44stood as a tantalizing controversy, its origins and
- 46:49truthfulness lost to time. This cast significant doubt on
- 46:54the authenticity of the Crockland vampire tale,
- 46:58suggesting that it was either an intentional fabrication or an
- 47:02unintentional distortion of the truth.
- 47:06However, Harper's conclusions would face scrutiny in the
- 47:101930s, when researcher F Clive Ross embarked on his own
- 47:16investigation in Cumberland. Ross's findings painted a
- 47:20different picture, one that hinted at a kernel of truth
- 47:24buried beneath the layers of mystery.
- 47:28According to Ross's research, Crogland Low Hall was indeed the
- 47:32location Harrod described, though the property had since
- 47:36been demolished and a Chapel erected in its place.
- 47:41Remarkably, remnants of the original structure remained,
- 47:46including the foundation stones of an ancient church and
- 47:50graveyard, the very same hollow ground where the sinister entity
- 47:56was said to have taken refuge. Even more compelling was the
- 48:00discovery of a bricked up window, rumored to be the very
- 48:05one through which the vampire had first appeared, tormenting
- 48:11the unsuspecting Amelia. Ross's findings injected a new
- 48:16found sense of intrigue into the narrative, suggesting that
- 48:20beneath the sensationalized elements, there may have been a
- 48:23genuine encounter that sparked the tale's origins.
- 48:28The existence of the church and graveyard lent credence to the
- 48:32idea that something inexplicable had transpired in this secluded
- 48:38corner of the English countryside, an event so
- 48:42profound that it interlocked itself into local folklore,
- 48:48evolving and transforming with each retelling.
- 48:53Was it a mere fiction, born from the fertile imagination of a
- 48:57storyteller? Or did it represent a distorted
- 49:00recounting of a genuine paranormal event, its details
- 49:06obscured by the passage of time? The answers remained elusive,
- 49:12and the tale would continue to captivate generations to come.
- 49:17However, further investigations shed new light on the narrative.
- 49:22It was discovered that others in the region had indeed heard the
- 49:26story. An old, mostly forgotten local
- 49:30myth in the Fisher family was very much real.
- 49:35One local resident even revealed that Kroglin Lohal had once been
- 49:40referred to as Kroglin Grange until 1720, suggesting that
- 49:46although Hare may have mixed up the dates, at least some
- 49:50elements of this tale held true. This aligned with the findings
- 49:55of a journalist, Lionel Fanthrope, who in recent years
- 50:00concluded that at Crawglin Grange and a vault matching the
- 50:04one in the story had existed in the 1600s.
- 50:09While the full scope of events remained obscured the
- 50:12possibility that an inexplicable encounter had indeed transpired
- 50:18in the secluded corner of the English countryside, the tale
- 50:22and origin of the Krogland Grange vampire remains
- 50:25uncertain. While the evidence neither
- 50:27confirms nor denies the events described, the lack of concrete
- 50:32proof poses a significant challenge for those seeking to
- 50:36validate the existence of a bloodthirsty creature of the
- 50:40night stalking the English countryside in the 1800s.
- 50:46It is highly plausible that this account originated from an
- 50:50unreliable second hand source, perhaps Fisher himself, who may
- 50:55have fabricated this story, drawn inspiration from
- 50:59sensational Gothic literature of the era, or distorted factual
- 51:04elements beyond recognition. Alternatively, it could be the
- 51:09work of pure fiction crafted by hair, skillfully weaving real
- 51:13locations into a narrative presented as truth for dramatic
- 51:19effect, only to be misconstrued as a potentially genuine
- 51:23encounter in later years, taking on a life of its own.
- 51:28Or perhaps it was merely A mischievous jest, a playful
- 51:34attempt to captivate and perplex.
- 51:38The truth remains elusive, leaving us to ponder the
- 51:41possibility of something inexplicable transpired in the
- 51:46secluded corner of Cumberland, transforming with each retelling
- 51:52and baffling those who dive deeper.

- 52:35We'll see you next time. The oldest of Native Hawaiian.
- 52:43Chants described the Hawaiian Islands, the spirits that
- 52:47inhabit them, the forces of nature that shaped them, and all
- 52:52the living things upon them as inextricably connected.
- 52:57And perhaps the wisdom of the native peoples is true and not
- 53:03just folklore. When authorities are called to a
- 53:07residence for an incident, what they will see will shake them
- 53:11all to their core. A supposed entity with an
- 53:15insatiable hunger for blood and corpses makes its presence
- 53:20known. Are the infamous tales true?
- 53:25This is what we will discover as we dive into the untold story of
- 53:29the haunted Kasha House of Kaimuki, located in Hawaii.
- 53:49Beyond the waters of its beaches.
- 53:52And the lush green canopies of its forests, the tropical
- 53:56paradise of the islands of Hawaii are an idyllic home or
- 54:02getaway for many. However, within the mists,
- 54:06shadows permeate. And where the veil is thin
- 54:10between our world and the next, those shadows sometimes whisper.
- 54:18In Japanese folklore, the creature known as the Kasha
- 54:22paints a terrifying picture. Its name translates to Fire
- 54:27Cart. It is a creature that is known
- 54:30to frequent populated areas and where it's diet consists of
- 54:35consuming the flesh of fresh human corpses.
- 54:40According to the lore, these creatures are a type of Baki
- 54:43Neko or a type of hellcat that lives among human beings under
- 54:49the guise of a common house cat or a stray.
- 54:54They are bipedal and larger than most people.
- 54:58When they make themselves known, they are accompanied by the
- 55:02flames of hell and strong thunderstorms are left in their
- 55:08wake. It is only during funerals that
- 55:11their true forms are revealed, and as a result, they are known
- 55:15to snatch the corpses of the freshly deceased and spirit them
- 55:21away to hell for punishment. A type of Grim Reaper, if you
- 55:26will. Akasha will animate a corpse as
- 55:29a puppet to do its bidding. Then we'll consume it as the
- 55:35ultimate punishment for one's misdeeds in life.
- 55:40Our story begins around 1940 on Oahu in Hawaii, in a large house
- 55:47that stands at 8th and Harding in Kaimuki, its foundation
- 55:52resting atop 2 beds of lava rock.
- 55:57The original story. That began the.
- 55:59Infamy of the Kaimuki House tells of a young couple who
- 56:04moved into the home hoping for a good and beautiful life
- 56:08together. But almost as soon as they moved
- 56:12in, this shared dream would deteriorate.
- 56:16The neighbors began hearing loud bangs and crashes almost every
- 56:22night, and as the episodes grew in intensity and suspecting that
- 56:28perhaps domestic violence could be taking place, one of the
- 56:32neighbors called the police. When the police arrived and.
- 56:37Questioned the. Couple instead of seeing one or
- 56:40the other upset or abused, they told them something else
- 56:45instead. They began to divulge to the
- 56:48officers that they were being attacked by something that they
- 56:52couldn't see. What happened to the young
- 56:55couple following this particular night is unclear, but what is
- 56:59known is that they moved out a short while after the incident.
- 57:04Sometime later on August 13th, 1942.
- 57:09On this day, an article would appear in the Honolulu Star
- 57:12Bulletin newspaper, one that described A bizarre happening
- 57:17that had just taken place and this incident.
- 57:22Was. Supposedly caused by the evil
- 57:25dunes of kahuna. For further context, in ancient
- 57:31Hawaii, treatment of the sick was based on the belief that
- 57:35poor health was caused by malevolent spirits or disease
- 57:40producing demons. Illness was considered the
- 57:43result of sorcery or in some cases, the ramifications of 1's
- 57:49actions. Among the Hawaiians, there
- 57:52existed a group, the kahunas, or those who were keepers of the
- 57:58secret, whose wisdom had been gained by divine guidance.
- 58:05Kahunas were grouped into. Various.
- 58:07Categories some good and others bad, and sorcery was practiced
- 58:13by the group. It was known as the Kahuna
- 58:16Anani. So essentially kahuna is a form
- 58:20of witchcraft with both white and black magic.
- 58:25On the night the article referred to, police officers
- 58:28were called to a house by a woman during a strong
- 58:32thunderstorm. During the call, the lady kept
- 58:36repeating she's trying to kill my children over and over again.
- 58:43Her words kept being interrupted by loud crashes of Thunder and
- 58:48what sounded like items being destroyed in the background.
- 58:52Upon arriving and entering the house, the officers.
- 58:57Couldn't believe what they. Were seeing those present began
- 59:01to witness something that was truly horrific.
- 59:05The woman who had initially called was screaming in the
- 59:09corner of the main room as her three children were levitating
- 59:15before her and everyone. Upon approaching them, the
- 59:20officers as well as the children would be slapped, pushed and
- 59:26hurled across the room by a sinister, invisible force.
- 59:33The children were a brother and two sisters, ages 1018 and 20.
- 59:41The main officer in charge was a police Sergeant.
- 59:45Prior to the call, the family began to smell a very strange
- 59:49odor like that of sulfur permeating their home, and then
- 59:55the physical attacks began. As the force attacked those
- 59:59involved, the mother of the family ran into her room and
- 1:00:03returned with several items. She frantically began fanning
- 1:00:08tea leaves and began throwing salt towards the entity.
- 1:00:13After several minutes, her efforts seemed to work as the
- 1:00:18children and the officer were released from the clutches of
- 1:00:24whatever this thing was. The family and the officer would
- 1:00:29vacate the premise following this night of horror.
- 1:00:33The woman who had called the authorities believed that the
- 1:00:36happenings were a result of black magic that had been placed
- 1:00:40on her by her ex-husband whom she had recently left.
- 1:00:46This is no doubt probably the most famous stories surrounding
- 1:00:49the Kaimuki house, given the press it received in the various
- 1:00:53media outlets. But it certainly would not be
- 1:00:57the last. 30 years later, another incident would too
- 1:01:02garner the attention of the people.
- 1:01:05Another frantic late night call had dispatched a patrol car in
- 1:01:10Kaimuki. The girls who lived there had
- 1:01:13supposedly heard strange noises of someone moving around and
- 1:01:18talking inside of their house. At first, thinking someone had
- 1:01:23broken into their home, they phoned the authorities, but
- 1:01:27following the call the noises began to escalate in intensity.
- 1:01:32Then one of the women felt the ice cold grasp of a hand on her
- 1:01:39arm. The girls, all three, ran out of
- 1:01:43the home and sat in their car until the officer arrived.
- 1:01:49Upon hearing their story, he would go inside and check the
- 1:01:52home for an intruder, but would find no one, deciding to spend
- 1:01:58the rest. Of the night with one.
- 1:01:59Of the girls mothers, they asked the policeman to follow them to
- 1:02:04the mother's home to ensure their safety.
- 1:02:08As the girls drove in front of the officer, they began to
- 1:02:12erratically swerve from side to side, ultimately pulling into a
- 1:02:17vacant parking lot upon approaching the vehicle with
- 1:02:21concern. The policeman later wrote this
- 1:02:25in his report. As I approached the vehicle, I
- 1:02:30could see two of the girls screaming.
- 1:02:33The girl sat in the middle in the back was fighting a person
- 1:02:38that could not be seen. She was very clearly being
- 1:02:42strangled. I opened one of the back doors
- 1:02:46and reached into the vehicle and to my shock, a big, strong,
- 1:02:53calloused hand that could not have possibly been that of a
- 1:02:57teenage girl grabbed my arm and twisted it.
- 1:03:04Upon freeing myself, I called for backup.
- 1:03:08The answering officer was certainly prepared for a parking
- 1:03:11lot fight, but not one with a ghost.
- 1:03:16Within minutes the other officer would arrive and with all the
- 1:03:20color drained out of his face, the original responding officer
- 1:03:25told him that there was a ghost in that car.
- 1:03:29By this point all women involved had exited the car and were
- 1:03:33hysterical, crying and screaming.
- 1:03:37Continuing to quote the officers report, I told the girl who had
- 1:03:42been choked to get in my patrol car and the other two women to
- 1:03:46ride with my fellow officer. But as soon as the young lady
- 1:03:50sat in my vehicle, which had stayed running during the
- 1:03:53incident, a motor died. It died and wouldn't start up
- 1:03:58again. Placing the girls back into
- 1:04:01their original car. The officer tried to start the
- 1:04:04vehicle again and it started as if nothing had ever been wrong.
- 1:04:10Wanting to get these frightened girls home safe, the original
- 1:04:14officer and the responding officer agreed to continue to
- 1:04:17follow them. But upon pulling out of the
- 1:04:20parking lot and almost as soon as they had driven about 5
- 1:04:24yards, suddenly one of the girl's vehicles doors flew open
- 1:04:31and the same girl who had previously been attacked was
- 1:04:35thrown out of the vehicle. Upon rushing to her position to
- 1:04:39check on her, she was again tearing at her throat and making
- 1:04:44noises as if she was being strangled.
- 1:04:48She had also incurred some Rd. rash.
- 1:04:51Together, the two policemen were not strong enough to pull her
- 1:04:56hands away. Terrified and believing the
- 1:05:00matter to be a spiritual one, one of the officers ran into the
- 1:05:04nearby Oasis Cafe and came back with a handful of salt and a
- 1:05:09glass of water, which was spritzed upon everyone there.
- 1:05:13And as the drops touched the young woman, she finally was
- 1:05:18able to catch her breath again. In later interviews, the officer
- 1:05:23would tell the press that his grandmother had told him that
- 1:05:26this was a method to make ghosts go away, and perhaps his
- 1:05:31grandmother was right, given the time frame.
- 1:05:36In which these stories? Occurred.
- 1:05:38Most involved may no longer be with us, so corroborating
- 1:05:42details is nearly impossible, but these tales have certainly
- 1:05:46made the Kaimuki house infamous. Now there are several possible
- 1:05:51explanations as to why and how the home became haunted by
- 1:05:56whatever paranormal entity or entities.
- 1:06:00Again, details are scarce, but I've done my best to research
- 1:06:04and put together the most cohesive theories possible.
- 1:06:09The first theory. Refers to a.
- 1:06:11Father who, after his wife told him that she was going to leave
- 1:06:15him, decided to do the unthinkable and in the lives of
- 1:06:20his two children and his wife, but still resided in the home
- 1:06:26the wife and son's bodies. Were buried.
- 1:06:28In the backyard, but the corpse of the daughter was never found.
- 1:06:35The second theory. Is that of a.
- 1:06:37Strangelove Triangle. A man was dating a woman who was
- 1:06:42dating another woman in secret without the man knowing, and
- 1:06:47upon his discovery of his girlfriend's secret affair, he
- 1:06:51decided to take the lives of her, her girlfriend, and
- 1:06:56ultimately himself within the walls of the Kaimuki house.
- 1:07:02The original house, from what I could gather, has since been
- 1:07:05demolished, and another home built atop where it once stood.
- 1:07:10And one of the many questions I have, is this home haunted just
- 1:07:16as the original home was? Was the haunting, if it existed
- 1:07:20at all, result of vengeful spirits of those who had met
- 1:07:25their demise there? The result of a bloodthirsty
- 1:07:29entity known as the Kasha, who would do anything to feed upon
- 1:07:35the flesh of the freshly deceased?
- 1:07:39Or was it something else? Was it perhaps?
- 1:07:43The result of native. Hawaiian black magic being
- 1:07:46practiced on the premises or nearby, or someone cursing
- 1:07:51another using this magic. We may never truly have the
- 1:07:55answers to these probing questions, but one thing As for
- 1:08:00certain, there was once a place that harbored darkness, a black
- 1:08:06void that existed in the heart of paradise, the supposed home
- 1:08:12of the angry souls of the dead, and possibly a creature from a
- 1:08:17world that is not our own. So if you see something that's
- 1:08:22beautiful on the surface, just know that one must be cautious
- 1:08:27because something evil could be lurking just beyond the shadows.
- 1:08:34Thank you guys. So.
- 1:08:35Much for watching this new. Video Hawaii is such a beautiful
- 1:08:39and cool place, full of culture and history and folklore and I
- 1:08:44thought it was time to pay some respects and cover a story that
- 1:08:48originates from one of the islands.
- 1:08:51If you enjoyed this video, please give it a like, leave me
- 1:08:54a comment and share this video around as much as you can.
- 1:08:58All that stuff truly, and I can't say this enough, helps me
- 1:09:01out tremendously. Not to sound like a broken
- 1:09:04record, there are many episodes to come, including one I've been
- 1:09:08working on for a few months now that I'm really excited to share
- 1:09:11with you guys. And as a message to my newer
- 1:09:13subscribers, I do have over 100 past videos that you can check
- 1:09:17out if you enjoyed this one and want to dive into another
- 1:09:20paranormal mystery. And other than that, guys, I
- 1:09:24appreciate each and everyone of you.
- 1:09:27This has been Cody here at Mystery Archives.
- 1:09:30Remember to please stay safe out there and take care.
- 1:09:41Along a section of Winding Rd. Tall, rusted gates harbor dark
- 1:09:46secrets. Not an adventure for the weak,
- 1:09:51This place is known for an abundance of evil activity.
- 1:09:56As the weary wander through the rusted iron bars, the souls of
- 1:10:01the damned whisper. Some will visit with wonder and
- 1:10:06others apprehension. And for good reason, for this
- 1:10:12place has spawned many legends stories of Satanic.
- 1:10:16Cults. Sacrifices, demonic possession
- 1:10:21and a wide range of terrifying apparitions have allegedly
- 1:10:26revealed themselves, but are there any truth to the rumors?
- 1:10:31What are these bone chilling stories?
- 1:10:34What is it about the stretch of road in Thornton, Co that has
- 1:10:39made it so infamous? That is what we will discover
- 1:10:43here on this episode of Mystery Archives as we explore the Gates
- 1:10:49of Hell of Riverdale Rd. of Colorado.
- 1:11:07All information provided is purely.
- 1:11:09Speculative. I've tried my best to find any
- 1:11:12and all information I could to the best to fit the stories and
- 1:11:17or see possibly where they could have come from or if there's any
- 1:11:21truth to them. Riverdale Rd., an 11 mile path
- 1:11:26located between Thornton and Brighton Co, has been a supposed
- 1:11:32hotspot for paranormal activity for decades.
- 1:11:36The earliest rumors tell us of a nearby Native American burial
- 1:11:41ground when it was in use. It's said that the tribe placed
- 1:11:45a curse upon the land to affect those who would disturb their
- 1:11:50dead. And as we've heard numerous
- 1:11:53times before, you don't mess with Native burial grounds.
- 1:11:58Nothing good ever comes of it. More on this later.
- 1:12:03Over the years, strange entities, those seeming to be
- 1:12:07half human and half animal, have been known to permeate the path
- 1:12:12ahead. Could these creatures have been
- 1:12:15the very feared skinwalkers of native folklore?
- 1:12:19Not all is evil with this rumor, however.
- 1:12:22There are both good and evil forces at work.
- 1:12:26They say that if you see a Gray fox along the road, then a
- 1:12:29benevolent entity has graced your trip, but if a coyote is
- 1:12:34what you see instead of a Gray fox, the path ahead is an
- 1:12:39ominous and malevolent one. We will certainly dive back into
- 1:12:44all of these rumors later, but the lore doesn't end here.
- 1:12:49It was nicknamed Closer to Modern Times for a variety of
- 1:12:52stories over the decades, and those of which I'll cover now in
- 1:12:58no particular order. Many people were lynched upon
- 1:13:02the trees surrounding the road, and many as sacrifices, some
- 1:13:08allegedly of former slaves by racist groups and others
- 1:13:13sacrifices committed by residents of the local community
- 1:13:17long ago. Whether the groups were one in
- 1:13:20the same cannot be distinguished.
- 1:13:23The Gates of Hell was once supposedly the home of a commune
- 1:13:28of Satanist Satanists who would do anything to keep their black
- 1:13:33church and its practices the secret.
- 1:13:37If anyone questioned the leadership, or if an outsider
- 1:13:41got too close to the truth, they would simply go missing.
- 1:13:46On the North End of the road, not too far from Hwy. 7, there
- 1:13:51once stood a large house, probably what most would
- 1:13:55consider to be a mansion. But the ruins of this building
- 1:13:59too harbor sinister secrets built by a very wealthy.
- 1:14:03Man for. Him and his family.
- 1:14:06The home was once quite the marvel to gaze upon, but the
- 1:14:10ability to look upon the structure would be short lived.
- 1:14:14Shortly after moving his family in, once construction was
- 1:14:18finished, the man began to change, growing colder, more
- 1:14:24distant and stranger. Located back behind the home was
- 1:14:29an underground cellar and taking the blood from the lives of
- 1:14:33those who had gone astray. It is here that they say he used
- 1:14:38black magic, riding strange symbols on the walls with their
- 1:14:43blood in order to try and conjure spirits and demons,
- 1:14:49perhaps in order to gain power and wealth.
- 1:14:54Behind the cellar is an old burnt tree, which has some lore
- 1:14:58of its own as well. This was where some victims were
- 1:15:01supposedly hung and burned at the stake, leaving charred
- 1:15:06remnants. 1 Fateful. Night as his.
- 1:15:10Family slept. The husband of the family crept
- 1:15:14up the stairs with an axe and without the others knowing he
- 1:15:20went room to room, slaying his wife and his children as their
- 1:15:27blood coated the floors of the house.
- 1:15:30This diabolical man, seemingly demon possessed, then took fuel
- 1:15:37and dumped it all throughout the house, lit it a flame, and then
- 1:15:41stepped outside to revel in pure madness and what he had just
- 1:15:46done. Was it him or a demon inside of
- 1:15:50him? This will perhaps never know,
- 1:15:53but he apparently, once the home was partially engulfed in
- 1:15:57flames, then took a rope, fastened it to the charred tree
- 1:16:02behind his cellar and ultimately hung himself, his feet dangling
- 1:16:08inches above the ground as the home behind him was reduced to
- 1:16:12burnt rubble. Other versions of the story say
- 1:16:16the man disappeared and was never seen or heard from again.
- 1:16:21A pale white figure of a woman is said to haunt the grounds
- 1:16:25now. Can be heard screaming some
- 1:16:27nights when the wind is still. Those that visit the Gates of
- 1:16:32Hell area have reported, as previously mentioned, seeing
- 1:16:36strange animals, but they also report seeing and hearing
- 1:16:41stranger things as well. Disembodied voices, the feeling
- 1:16:46of being watched, and the sensation of icy hands poking
- 1:16:52and touching them. Another very strange phenomenon
- 1:16:56that's said to exist is bloody human hand burns materializing
- 1:17:01on the street signs with no rational origin.
- 1:17:06This place, like many, seems downright terrifying in my
- 1:17:09opinion. But is there any truth to any of
- 1:17:12these stories, or are they just that, stories?
- 1:17:17Well, here's what I found following what we covered in
- 1:17:21order. Thornton, Co was indigenously
- 1:17:26inhabited by several Native American tribes, most notably
- 1:17:31the Arapaho and the Cheyenne. Each tribe had very different
- 1:17:36burial methods. The Arapaho usually buried their
- 1:17:40deceased on the same day that the person had died.
- 1:17:44The body was dressed in their finest traditional clothing and
- 1:17:48a spacious grave was dug into the ground.
- 1:17:51The person was then buried with some of their personal
- 1:17:54belongings, such as clothing and blankets.
- 1:17:59Stones and other items would be placed on top of the grave to
- 1:18:03mark its significance and who was buried there.
- 1:18:07Arguably fairly similar to how the West buries people today.
- 1:18:12The Cheyenne, however, had a very different method.
- 1:18:15It's unclear how long it took them to typically lay someone to
- 1:18:19rest, but their funeral customs were that they would wrap the
- 1:18:23deceased in shawls and blankets, they would proceed to the
- 1:18:28designated burial ground, and during the procession A
- 1:18:32bloodletting practice would take place where ponies would
- 1:18:36typically be killed. They are interesting to me in
- 1:18:39numerous ways, but they wouldn't bury their dead.
- 1:18:43They would instead build a scaffold of sort and lay the
- 1:18:46dead on top of it. This was done in the belief that
- 1:18:50it would accelerate the soul of the departed's passage into the
- 1:18:54afterlife. For practical reasons it is
- 1:18:58believed that they did this in order to prevent wild animals
- 1:19:02from pillaging the corpse, which very well may have been the
- 1:19:06case, but typically the bodies would stay and sometimes decay
- 1:19:11and eventually fall back down to the ground.
- 1:19:14Now curses did exist for both tribes, but I couldn't find any
- 1:19:18of that specifically referenced burial sites and almost all
- 1:19:22people's beliefs. Disturbing the dead is
- 1:19:25considered very taboo. Could it perhaps be our
- 1:19:28collective regard for the eternal rest of those who have
- 1:19:32passed that have led us to the belief that a burial ground
- 1:19:36could indeed be cursed? Also, skinwalkers, which are
- 1:19:41still feared to this day, were created when a person committed
- 1:19:45a heinous act like the killing of a family member, and this
- 1:19:50would grant them supernatural powers, allowing them to
- 1:19:54shapeshift from a human to an animal at will.
- 1:19:58They often become coyotes, wolves.
- 1:20:02Foxes or bears? Though they can transition into
- 1:20:06any animal, both coyotes and foxes are allegedly the omens
- 1:20:12along the road containing the gates of hell.
- 1:20:16When it comes to the supposed lynchings that took place, I
- 1:20:19found this in Colorado. It was a cheap way to execute
- 1:20:24criminals, and the majority of those that are documented,
- 1:20:28roughly 175 cases, were mostly the results of core rulings at
- 1:20:33the time, all over the state in the time being, the early 20th
- 1:20:38century. As far as if formal slaves were
- 1:20:41lynched, this very possibly could have taken place, but I
- 1:20:46couldn't find any that were directly linked to Thornton.
- 1:20:49In total, there were five events that were explicitly tied to
- 1:20:53race, but many took place again in the early 20th century,
- 1:20:59albeit as horrific as they were after 1919, lynch moms
- 1:21:04occasionally flared up to dole out public justice, but as more
- 1:21:09people moved to the state, attitudes towards this type of
- 1:21:12behavior and action began to change.
- 1:21:16Therefore, public opinion as well as opinion of the courts
- 1:21:20moved away from this method of execution.
- 1:21:24When it comes to the apparent satanic coal commune that
- 1:21:27supposedly lived there, I couldn't find any evidence of
- 1:21:31them no matter where I looked. But obviously, if I was a secret
- 1:21:35colt and I was good at my job, I wouldn't have any evidence of my
- 1:21:40bloodthirsty existence on the Internet either.
- 1:21:44This now leads us back to the mansion where the name came
- 1:21:47from. The name Gates of Hell came from
- 1:21:50the old and rusted iron gates of a burned down mansion, a blaze
- 1:21:56that was the result of a madman who took his family out.
- 1:22:01Now there is proof of the mansion, who bought it, and what
- 1:22:05happened that caused it to burn down, but the truth is certainly
- 1:22:09less spooky than the legend. Before I dive into it, I wanted
- 1:22:13to also mention that it's more than likely that the charred
- 1:22:16tree was the result of either the original fire or of a
- 1:22:21lightning strike taking place. The mansion was originally named
- 1:22:25the Vulpert House. Built in 1864 by a man named
- 1:22:29David Volbert, this two-story brick house was a fine structure
- 1:22:34of dignity. David, who was a very successful
- 1:22:38prospector along with his wife Catherine, had two daughters and
- 1:22:43a son. However, even though fitting the
- 1:22:47time frame when the madman story supposedly took place, David
- 1:22:52didn't go crazy and harm his family.
- 1:22:55He actually would go on to pass away, presumably within the
- 1:22:58home, at the age of 75. What happened to his family
- 1:23:02members is unclear, but they most likely moved on and passed
- 1:23:07away from natural causes. The home, as far as I can tell,
- 1:23:11sat vacant from the early 1900s until 1975.
- 1:23:16This is when a man named Doctor Hugo Rhodic and his wife Ori and
- 1:23:21Sally Rhodic, purchase the home, working hard on behalf of the
- 1:23:26Adams County Historical Society. The couple would go on to
- 1:23:30restore the home and live there for a short time, designating
- 1:23:33its status as a historical monument.
- 1:23:37Things seemed normal for the Road X until 1:00 AM on November
- 1:23:4228th, 1975. The home, which stood at 9190
- 1:23:48Riverdale Rd., became engulfed in flames.
- 1:23:53It's unclear whether or not the couple had any children or any
- 1:23:57that lived with them at that time, but the Rhodics would make
- 1:24:00it out of the blaze very much alive.
- 1:24:03And although the origin of the blaze was undetermined, the
- 1:24:07authorities at the time did determine that arson did not
- 1:24:10seem to be at play. Doctor Rhodic would go on to
- 1:24:14live and ultimately passed away at the age of 102.
- 1:24:19It seems as though the Madman Mansion story, as I've come to
- 1:24:23see it, could possibly be a fictionalized amalgamation of
- 1:24:27both of the real stories surrounding the Vulpert House.
- 1:24:31The ruins of the home as well as the original gates have since
- 1:24:35been demolished and the Pelican Ponds open space now sits in
- 1:24:40their place. Sometimes the truth isn't as fun
- 1:24:43as the legends that surround an area, and perhaps there could be
- 1:24:47more truth in some of these tales.
- 1:24:50Perhaps the area itself is where the veil is thinner between our
- 1:24:54world and the next. It's hard to say, but one thing
- 1:24:59is certain. The folklore of America is vast,
- 1:25:03creative, and entertaining, and it's incredible to see so many
- 1:25:08stories spawning from seemingly such an insignificant place,
- 1:25:12like a winding stretch of Rd. in the middle of Colorado.
- 1:25:16But what do you think? Do you have any stories about
- 1:25:20the Gates of Hell? Do you have any stories from
- 1:25:23your local community that have become legends?
- 1:25:26Make sure to let me know down in the comments below.

- 1:26:25I've covered dozens of. Hauntings and paranormal
- 1:26:29happenings on this channel, Some famous, some infamous and others
- 1:26:35less known. But what I think is important as
- 1:26:39well is to help use my platform to share other people's stories
- 1:26:45of their experiences with the supernatural.
- 1:26:49To show that these experiences are indeed real and that they do
- 1:26:54truly happen. These are subscriber submitted
- 1:26:57stories and all I ask is that you keep an open mind.
- 1:27:02These are your paranormal encounters.
- 1:27:09When I was in junior high, me. And my best friend at the time
- 1:27:13played with a new Ouija board that she had got for Christmas.
- 1:27:16We messed around for a while but nothing happened.
- 1:27:21So we got bored and put it away. A few weeks later I was at her
- 1:27:26house again, was playing around with the record feature and my
- 1:27:31flip phone. My friend left to use the
- 1:27:34bathroom and I kept messing around with the phone.
- 1:27:38It was just me and her cat alone in the basement.
- 1:27:42I made a recording of me and the cat meowing at each other,
- 1:27:45innocent kid stuff. But when I played it back there
- 1:27:50was this really deep animalistic grunting sound and the recording
- 1:27:56that was definitely not there when I was initially making it.
- 1:28:00It also was way too deep sounding to possibly be from a
- 1:28:0514 year old girl or a little cat.
- 1:28:08It was a few years later before anything else happened.
- 1:28:12Next I was around 16 to 17 years old and we moved in with my
- 1:28:16mom's boyfriend. My room always felt dark and
- 1:28:20uncomfortable, like I was always being watched even when I was
- 1:28:24alone after a while. Weird things started.
- 1:28:28To happen, things would go missing, then later reappear in
- 1:28:33the middle of my desk or some place obvious.
- 1:28:37I would hear tapping and scratching on the walls in my
- 1:28:40room when everyone was asleep. I would get horrible nightmares,
- 1:28:46not like anything I'd ever experienced before.
- 1:28:50One time I got a scratch across my leg while I was sitting in my
- 1:28:54bed. I looked around but could not
- 1:28:57find anything sharp that could have done it.
- 1:29:00Last was the bed shaking every night along the wall,
- 1:29:06scratching, creepy feeling and nightmares.
- 1:29:10My bed would shake, not hard but just enough to make me notice no
- 1:29:16heavy traffic or trains nearby and there was no construction
- 1:29:20going on. It happened in my room only.
- 1:29:25I would sleep with my mom or my sister after a while because I
- 1:29:28couldn't handle it anymore. One time my mom got curious and
- 1:29:33slept in my bed to see what the big deal was and it shook her
- 1:29:37too. A few years later we all moved
- 1:29:40out. I moved in with my future
- 1:29:43husband and we rented the basement at his childhood home
- 1:29:46for a couple years. While there, three weird things
- 1:29:50happened and it was the first time I ever saw anything.
- 1:29:54The first was this big black dog that just appeared in our living
- 1:29:58room. I blinked and it vanished.
- 1:30:03The second was in the kitchen. I was cooking dinner when I
- 1:30:07glanced to the side and saw a tall man with curly hair and a
- 1:30:11ball cap. When I told my husband the
- 1:30:14description, I remembered more of the description back in the
- 1:30:17day. It's been 10 years since this
- 1:30:20happened. He told me I just described his
- 1:30:23older brother. Sadly his older brother lost his
- 1:30:27fight with depression long before I ever met my husband and
- 1:30:32he actually passed away in the same basement we were living in.
- 1:30:36The last thing that happened I think was either his brother
- 1:30:39again or an energy imprint. I was in the kitchen again and
- 1:30:44asking my husband what he wanted for dinner and he replied
- 1:30:48something unhelpful along the lines of whatever you want.
- 1:30:53Well a few minutes later I get a call from my husband.
- 1:30:58He wasn't even home at the time of that conversation.
- 1:31:02Who was I talking to? I would like to let you know.
- 1:31:05That I do not. Have any mental illness or
- 1:31:07neurological issues that would make me hallucinate?
- 1:31:11I never drank or did drugs. We also had a brand new carbon
- 1:31:15monoxide detector installed and we had moved in so there would
- 1:31:19be no reason for me to hallucinate any of that.
- 1:31:23My last experiences in my current home and it happened a
- 1:31:27few years ago. I was pouring some ramen noodles
- 1:31:31into bowls for my kids lunch when the bowls started to spin
- 1:31:35in different directions without me touching them.
- 1:31:39I stopped and then stepped back and they stopped spinning, then
- 1:31:44spun one more time before finally stopping all together.
- 1:31:48There are more minor experiences I've had, but these were the
- 1:31:52most memorable. I hope it was interesting enough
- 1:31:55for what you were looking for. I certainly think it was.
- 1:31:59You certainly had a variety of paranormal experiences from the
- 1:32:02sounds of it, but the nightmares, the scratching on
- 1:32:06the walls and the shaking of my bed would have been downright
- 1:32:10terrifying. What really takes the cake for
- 1:32:13me is the fact that you had a conversation with something
- 1:32:16pretending to be your husband, and your husband wasn't even
- 1:32:20there. All around, thank you for
- 1:32:22sharing this with us, GAIL. Hello big fan and submitting my.
- 1:32:28Story I've always had an interest in the paranormal my
- 1:32:32entire life but was never really convinced up until this event.
- 1:32:37It was spring of 2015 and I was working on a conservation crew
- 1:32:42in Lake Tahoe doing fire hazard removal and fuels reduction with
- 1:32:48the Forest Service on a chainsaw crew.
- 1:32:52I've been doing this job for a year in Nevada and this was my
- 1:32:56first time in the area. Our work day came to a close and
- 1:33:01mind you, this is the day one of our schedule out of a six day
- 1:33:04work week and we left Incline Village towards our designated
- 1:33:09campsite at Spooner Lake in Carson City.
- 1:33:14After our crew set up camp and ate dinner, myself and two other
- 1:33:18coworkers took a brief walk down the service trail until we got
- 1:33:23to an intersection on the trail that wasn't surrounded by trees.
- 1:33:28We shoot the breeze and smoke American spirits for about 45
- 1:33:32minutes to an hour laughing and just talking about life when out
- 1:33:38of nowhere in the corner of my left eye I see a white mist in
- 1:33:44the silhouette of a person about 6 feet tall just glide
- 1:33:49diagonally from behind a tree. It stands motionless in the
- 1:33:55middle of the trail where on and I can see the dirt of the trail
- 1:33:59underneath it because it had no feet, but its legs conjoined
- 1:34:06just after its knees couldn't see through it.
- 1:34:09Because it was so dense. From whatever it was made out
- 1:34:12of. I whispered my Co workers name
- 1:34:15to get them to look up from their phone and as he looks up
- 1:34:19he says what? And then he too became frozen as
- 1:34:23he stared right at this figure. I asked him if he sees it too
- 1:34:29and he says I think it pierced my soul.
- 1:34:33While my other Co worker is oblivious to all of this
- 1:34:36happening, it suddenly notices us noticing it and glides slowly
- 1:34:43diagonally across the trail and behind a tree was gone.
- 1:34:50The angle in which it moved seemed as though it was a
- 1:34:53direction or path that we cannot conceive.
- 1:34:58Anyway, we run back to our campground which was about 100
- 1:35:02to 200 yards away and just went back to our tents without saying
- 1:35:07a word to each other or the rest of the crew.
- 1:35:10The real amazing part about this experience was that unbeknownst
- 1:35:15to me or anyone in my crew is that next to the lake are these
- 1:35:19hills that gradually go up and every morning this fog would
- 1:35:24roll down these hills and it just looks incredible.
- 1:35:29However. It is the exact.
- 1:35:31Same density and material that the figure seemed to be composed
- 1:35:36of. I think the spirit is somehow
- 1:35:39part of nature and maybe burning tobacco brought it out as if it
- 1:35:44were an offering. After all, this is an ancient
- 1:35:48land. That was my experience, I hope
- 1:35:52you enjoyed it. I did enjoy Nick.
- 1:35:55It sounds super creepy though in my opinion, and perhaps you're
- 1:36:00right. Maybe the offering brought forth
- 1:36:02some type of ancient spirit that dwells the area, translucent and
- 1:36:08or composed of fog. Just sounds so eerie to me.
- 1:36:12Thank you for sharing this with us.
- 1:36:17This must have happened in 1986 or 87, which made me about 6 or
- 1:36:237 at the time. It is important to note that
- 1:36:26where we were staying back then, a suburb and then Pretoria,
- 1:36:31Currently referred to as the city of Tushwani, a large city.
- 1:36:37Even then, our house was situated only a few blocks from
- 1:36:41one of the busiest streets in the city, a broad 4 lane with
- 1:36:46constant traffic both ways. Big trucks right through the
- 1:36:51night barreling off into the distance.
- 1:36:55The kind of consistent. Drone I.
- 1:36:57Imagine a New Yorker living in Manhattan might experience even
- 1:37:01in the dead of night. On this particular night, my
- 1:37:05mother was alone in the living room with our faithful family
- 1:37:09golden spaniel, watching some late night TV.
- 1:37:13Myself and my younger. Sister were both.
- 1:37:15Already sound asleep, my elder brother was keeping to himself
- 1:37:20in his bedroom. My father was not in the picture
- 1:37:24at the time. A perfectly serene scene.
- 1:37:28It must have been about 10:00 PM, a warm summer evening, and
- 1:37:33our living room front door was open to allow the pleasant
- 1:37:36evening air inside. The first thing my mom.
- 1:37:40Noticed was a feeling. Of unease.
- 1:37:43The feeling was intense and unignorable.
- 1:37:47She got up. And crossed the living.
- 1:37:49Room to the outside porch, the dog following behind her.
- 1:37:54According to her account, this is when things got super weird.
- 1:37:59Upon exiting the house, she immediately noticed an eerie
- 1:38:02silence hanging over the place. It was if some huge vacuum
- 1:38:06cleaner had just gone and sucked every bit of ambient noise out
- 1:38:10of the air. No crickets chirping, of which
- 1:38:14there should be many in high summer, out of breath of air.
- 1:38:20No dog barking in the distance. Most disturbing of all, not even
- 1:38:25the faintest whisper of traffic anywhere near or far.
- 1:38:30Furthermore, the air had acquired A distinct dull
- 1:38:33quality, the feeling almost like your ears needed to pop, almost
- 1:38:39thickened, denser, making it somehow harder to draw a breath.
- 1:38:46Just when you think it couldn't get weirder, the dog who was
- 1:38:49standing close by broke into a long, drawn out sorrowful howl,
- 1:38:56seeming filled with immeasurable anguish.
- 1:39:00This was not her habit. It was highly unusual.
- 1:39:04She had never before exhibited such behavior and never again
- 1:39:09did afterwards. It must have been around this
- 1:39:13time, from all that I can glean, that my brother, having fallen
- 1:39:18asleep on his bed, was woken up not by the dogs howling, but
- 1:39:24from feeling cold. This was slightly unusual this
- 1:39:28time of year. I believe it might have even
- 1:39:31been the dog that woke him after all.
- 1:39:34Yet he only remembers waking up from the cold feeling that he
- 1:39:37had. He was around 11 or. 12 years
- 1:39:40old. Back then, he surely must have
- 1:39:43sensed something amiss as well, for his immediate instinct was
- 1:39:48not to cover himself in order to escape the cold.
- 1:39:51Instead, he opted to get up and go investigate, upon which he
- 1:39:57met my mom in the passage going in the opposite direction.
- 1:40:02Not a word was exchanged between them, my mom continuing on to
- 1:40:07her room and my brother, still somewhat befuddled, continued to
- 1:40:12the living room. And out onto the porch, still
- 1:40:16with no clear directive. I think this was when the dog
- 1:40:20started howling again, having moved to the center of the
- 1:40:24narrow front lawn that we had. Now my mom has returned, having
- 1:40:29fetched her Bible from the bedside table, standing
- 1:40:33resolutely next to my brother, though I confess to placing no
- 1:40:38great stock in the Bible itself as a tool of any great power,
- 1:40:43and I'm no supporter of the concept of religion, neither is
- 1:40:47my mom anymore. And maybe it was my mother's
- 1:40:50sheer power of faith, which is considerable.
- 1:40:54In any event, these are the facts.
- 1:40:56As it occurred, my mom wasted no time opening the Bible randomly
- 1:41:02and earnestly starting a heartfelt prayer.
- 1:41:06The exact nature of her prayer is altogether irrelevant, save
- 1:41:11for her deep rooted faith and its effectiveness.
- 1:41:14The effect was immediate and dramatic at once.
- 1:41:20All ambient sound and natural warmer air came back in a rush.
- 1:41:25It was almost an audible, tangible looshing sound.
- 1:41:29The dog stopped howling. She approached the humans now,
- 1:41:34tail wagging and panting, totally back to normal, except
- 1:41:39that she couldn't hide her obvious relief.
- 1:41:43This marked the end of the episode.
- 1:41:46As to the origins thereof, we have speculated over the years
- 1:41:50but are careful to not make any definitive accusations towards
- 1:41:54anyone. The person who was approached
- 1:41:56with a warning to lay off still to this dying day denied all
- 1:42:01knowledge of being involved. However, on one thing we are all
- 1:42:06unanimous, foul play was involved.
- 1:42:11An ancient form of the blackest arts.
- 1:42:15Genevieve, thank you as well for sharing your story with us.
- 1:42:19It seems like whatever this thing was caused everything to
- 1:42:22be still almost like some kind of time warp, which sounds very
- 1:42:28creepy indeed. I'm glad that your mother found
- 1:42:31whatever authority it was that she needed to send this thing
- 1:42:34away and allow everything to get back to normal for you guys.
- 1:42:39First, I'd like to say that I appreciate all of you guys that
- 1:42:43did allow me to retell your stories.
- 1:42:46I appreciate you having the courage to submit them as well
- 1:42:48because not a lot of people do and overall I hope I did your
- 1:42:53experiences justice if you would like to submit.
- 1:42:57A story for the next. Episode because I would like to
- 1:43:00make this a regular thing if it's possible.

- 1:43:16Other than that, guys, like I've said, these experiences are very
- 1:43:19real and they do occur a lot more often than people would
- 1:43:22like to think. Anyways guys, I love you all.
- 1:43:26Thank you for being an amazing and supportive community.
- 1:43:29And as always, this has been Cody here at Mystery Archives.
- 1:43:33Remember to please stay safe out there and take care.
- 1:43:37I'll see you next time. The reality To some, the thought
- 1:43:46of spending an isolated period of time during a turbulent
- 1:43:51series of storms inside a lighthouse be a strange and
- 1:43:57seemingly scary predicament to be in.
- 1:44:00The waves crashing against walls, rain and hail pelting the
- 1:44:05windows, and the roll of Thunder surrounding you, not knowing
- 1:44:10when and if the weather will yield.
- 1:44:14Certainly it would take a mental toll on a person.
- 1:44:19It seems that some would break under these conditions and
- 1:44:23others wouldn't, and those that broke perhaps would never leave
- 1:44:29such a place we're. Discussing today.
- 1:44:32Is the Seguin Island Lighthouse located in Maine?
- 1:44:36And this haunted Maine lighthouse holds dark and
- 1:44:41chilling secrets. The Seguin Island Lighthouse is.
- 1:44:48Maine's second oldest lighthouse, the explorer Samuel
- 1:44:52D Champlin, discovered Seguin Island in 1612.
- 1:44:58He commented that it looked like a giant tortoise.
- 1:45:02The name Seguin is said by some to be a corruption of a Native
- 1:45:08American word that means place where the sea vomits.
- 1:45:14Others claim that it originates from a Native American word
- 1:45:19meaning hump. Either way, it's entirely
- 1:45:22appropriate given how it looks. In June of 178655, local
- 1:45:30merchants petitioned the General Court of Massachusetts for a
- 1:45:34lighthouse on Seguin Island. The petition noted that the
- 1:45:39island of Seguin seems to be designated by nature for this
- 1:45:42purpose, and it stated the opinion that if there was a
- 1:45:47light upon this island, many vessels would be saved from
- 1:45:50shipwreck and many persons preserved from immature deaths.
- 1:45:57At that time there were only three light stations on the
- 1:46:00coast north of Boston, at Thatcher Island, off Cape Ann,
- 1:46:06at Portsmouth Harbor in New Hampshire, and at Portland Head
- 1:46:11in Maine. It would take nearly a decade,
- 1:46:14but the lighthouse would be approved by then President
- 1:46:18George Washington. By April 1795, a site had been
- 1:46:23chosen and a request was posted in local newspapers for
- 1:46:28proposals to build an octagonal wooden lighthouse tower on the
- 1:46:34stone foundation and a one story wood frame dwelling.
- 1:46:39A newspaper notice in late October of 1796 announced that
- 1:46:44the buildings had been completed under the supervision of Henry
- 1:46:48Dearborn, who would later become the customs collector in Boston
- 1:46:53and Secretary of War under President Jefferson.
- 1:46:57Seguin's first keeper, appointed in March of 1796 at $200 per
- 1:47:04year, was Major John Polaricksky, A Hungarian who saw
- 1:47:10an account who was born in France and fought with French
- 1:47:14troops during the American Revolution.
- 1:47:17His family had been Hungarian nobility and they dated back as
- 1:47:21far as 16/13. He had settled and dressed in
- 1:47:26Maine and was their town clerk for 25 years until he applied
- 1:47:31for and was granted a position as a Keeper of Seguin Island
- 1:47:36Light in 1898. His meager salary was unfit for
- 1:47:42living off the island in such harsh conditions due to its
- 1:47:47remote exposed location and he constantly requested increases
- 1:47:52in his salary but was always denied.
- 1:47:56His brother-in-law, Christopher Pushard, served as his assistant
- 1:48:01with him and initially brought his wife briefly to the island
- 1:48:06where they had their first child, Jane.
- 1:48:09However, Pusher didn't get his family to stay as relations were
- 1:48:15strained between the two men. After serving for eight years in
- 1:48:20eighteen O 4, John died penniless on the island.
- 1:48:25For years afterward, some say his ghost has haunted the
- 1:48:29keepers who came after him. Known as the Old Captain, John's
- 1:48:35ghost would become all too familiar to some.
- 1:48:40One incident closer to modern times occurred after the
- 1:48:44lighthouse was automated in 1985.
- 1:48:48The supervisor in charge of the crew to move the furniture
- 1:48:52reported months later that he was woken up by a ghost.
- 1:48:59He claimed that several times as he slept inside the lighthouse,
- 1:49:04as rain hammered the structure, his bed began to ferociously
- 1:49:09shake. Waking up in a panic, he sees at
- 1:49:14the foot of his bed an older man dressed in oil skins, grabbing
- 1:49:22and shaking the bed near his feet.
- 1:49:25The entity asked. Him not to take the.
- 1:49:27Furniture away and to leave his home alone, convinced he was.
- 1:49:34Simply in a deep. Dream, the supervisor, decided
- 1:49:37not to oblige the captain's ghost the following day.
- 1:49:42He decided to move the furniture anyways, as he and his crew had
- 1:49:48been paid to complete it that day.
- 1:49:50All the furniture had been successfully loaded onto a boat
- 1:49:54which was being lowered into the water, but as it lowered,
- 1:49:59suddenly the cable mysteriously snapped.
- 1:50:03The ship and all of its contents fell and would spill onto the
- 1:50:08rocks below, smashing everything into pieces.
- 1:50:13In the years since, many responsible and credible
- 1:50:16volunteer caretakers who have signed on to help upkeep the
- 1:50:20lighthouse, along with the occasional tourists, have
- 1:50:25reported various sightings of multiple entities as well as
- 1:50:30experiencing paranormal events. Items have been moved inside the
- 1:50:35house or tossed from shelves and onto the floor, mysterious cold
- 1:50:41spots seem to appear at random, tools would often disappear as
- 1:50:48if someone or something was playing a trick on people, and
- 1:50:54doors have been observed opening and closing.
- 1:50:59Oddly, when the caretakers move the furniture, it is sometimes
- 1:51:03restored to its original spot the following day, as if
- 1:51:07something invisible had moved it all back.
- 1:51:12Some have reported hearing coughing from an unseen force,
- 1:51:16as well as whispers and the sighting of an older man dressed
- 1:51:22in oil skins. The Old Captain isn't the only
- 1:51:26entity that seemingly dwells the grounds of the Seguin
- 1:51:30Lighthouse. This following story is one of
- 1:51:34legend and has been very difficult to find documentation
- 1:51:39that it is perhaps the most tragic incident that has ever
- 1:51:42occurred on the island. According to the legend, around
- 1:51:47the mid 1800s, a caretaker. Or keeper of.
- 1:51:51The Beacon, newly married, brought his young wife out with
- 1:51:55him to tend to the light. Not used to the isolation of the
- 1:52:00island, his wife quickly became increasingly bored and
- 1:52:05depressed, constantly complaining about not having
- 1:52:09anything to do, thinking it would occupy.
- 1:52:12Her and. Keep her mind off the boredom.
- 1:52:15Her husband ordered a piano and asked it to be brought to the
- 1:52:19island just before winter would set in.
- 1:52:23Upon its delivery, he proudly presented it to her after
- 1:52:28numerous attempts to get the piano up the side of the rocky
- 1:52:33ledge. Once it was up, it was carefully
- 1:52:38hauled into the keeper's house with the hands of many friends.
- 1:52:44His wife was delighted, but she couldn't play without sheet
- 1:52:48music. Fortunately, though, only one
- 1:52:52song had come with the piano. It was a simple Scott Joplin
- 1:52:57tune. Soon afterward, when winter had
- 1:53:01set in, the island was frozen. No other deliveries, despite
- 1:53:07their best efforts, could come in isolated.
- 1:53:12More than ever. Together, the man's wife would
- 1:53:16continually play her piano, playing the same song over and
- 1:53:23over and over again. The isolation in constant
- 1:53:29playing of the same tune over countless hours and days began
- 1:53:34to take their toll. The husband of the couple began
- 1:53:39to lose his sanity finally. Reaching his breaking.
- 1:53:44Point. He had had enough.
- 1:53:47He took an axe and with a fit of fury, chopped the piano into
- 1:53:53pieces following the outburst. Once the shock had subsided, his
- 1:54:00wife bitterly complained he would then turn on and attack
- 1:54:06her recently. Chopping her with the.
- 1:54:10Axe. Within hours, it seemed that the
- 1:54:14man had finally come back to his senses, but realizing the
- 1:54:19horrendous act he had committed, he decided to turn the axe on
- 1:54:25himself today. Some say that.
- 1:54:30On the Kennebec River during foggy nights, you can hear the
- 1:54:35ghost of the lighthouse keeper's wife playing the same ghostly
- 1:54:40tune on her phantom piano out over the waves on those still
- 1:54:47calm evenings. Many Mariners and former keepers
- 1:54:53have claimed to have heard some kind of piano tune playing over
- 1:54:56the waters as well these three. Ghosts have been.
- 1:55:02Claimed to have been seen or their presence felt by numerous
- 1:55:08visitors and volunteers over the decades.
- 1:55:12Among other entities, some of which I was unable to find
- 1:55:17origin information on is the one of a young girl and her story
- 1:55:24goes like this. Moving on to the island with her
- 1:55:28family in the early 1900s as her father took the position as a
- 1:55:34keeper at the lighthouse. She was the only child of her
- 1:55:38two parents. The island is isolated, lonely
- 1:55:45and cold. There are no other.
- 1:55:47Children to play with. Or much to do for a young child
- 1:55:52to stay entertained. One of the activities.
- 1:55:56She tried to. Preoccupy herself with was
- 1:55:59throwing rocks down into the water from the Cliff side near
- 1:56:04the lighthouse. One unfortunate day, as the
- 1:56:09rocks near the edge were slippery from the mist of the
- 1:56:13fog surrounding the island, the poor young lady would slip and
- 1:56:20meet her demise, falling onto the rocks and waters below.
- 1:56:26It is said that she still lingers on the island and does
- 1:56:30everything she can to entertain herself and interact with those
- 1:56:35who happened to visit her forever home.
- 1:56:39She has been witnessed by many running playfully around the
- 1:56:42gardens, laughing and smiling, playing hide and seek with
- 1:56:48visitors for all eternity. She's been seen not.
- 1:56:52Only by visitors. To Sea Gwen Island, but also by
- 1:56:56previous keepers who called the lighthouse their home.
- 1:57:00She's been witnessed running up and down the stairs of the
- 1:57:04lighthouse, waving to her onlookers, tapping people's
- 1:57:09backs, only to have them turn around to catch a fleeting
- 1:57:13glimpse of her small feet running away and phasing out of
- 1:57:17her vision. There are a few things I would
- 1:57:21like to mention before we go. Considering the location, I
- 1:57:26wonder if the lighthouse or the island is indeed haunted.
- 1:57:32Could it have perhaps started with the misfortunes of the late
- 1:57:35captain? Or was it something else,
- 1:57:40perhaps a battle of sorts where a tragedy occurred?
- 1:57:44There. Or near there tainting the land.
- 1:57:49It's hard to say, but with the age of the lighthouse and given
- 1:57:54what we know about its history, I wouldn't be surprised if
- 1:57:58spirits still dwell there. Maybe it is a beacon.
- 1:58:02For souls. As much as it is for ships, and
- 1:58:07this isn't a sponsorship, but I wanted to provide the following
- 1:58:11details because I think it's very important to fund and
- 1:58:15preserve history whenever possible.
- 1:58:18Seguin Island is a little over 2 miles offshore from the mouth of
- 1:58:23the Kennebec River near Fort Popham and Popham Beach State
- 1:58:28Park. The lighthouse grounds and
- 1:58:31museum are open to the public and lighthouse tours are
- 1:58:34provided. During the summer, the Fish and
- 1:58:37Trips Boat, also called the Seagueen Island Ferry, provides
- 1:58:42daily 30 minutes services during the summer season to ferry
- 1:58:46people to the island. And for those who want to try
- 1:58:51and investigate the lighthouse, there are overnight rustic
- 1:58:55accommodations available for members of the Friends of
- 1:58:59Seagueen Island. You can contact the
- 1:59:03friendsofseagueenisland@seagueenisland.org. I would encourage all of you to
- 1:59:09go and experience places for yourselves whenever possible,
- 1:59:14especially historic places to help preserve them for future
- 1:59:19generations. But I will warn you, be careful
- 1:59:25and be respectful because if you aren't either, you might just
- 1:59:30become the newest permanent resident of the isolated island.
- 1:59:38Thank you all SO. Much for watching this news.
- 1:59:41Episode while I investigate cases for other videos,
- 1:59:45sometimes it's fun for me to go and check out more historic
- 1:59:48places and learn about the stories surrounding them.
- 1:59:53So if you enjoyed this video, please give it a like subscribe
- 1:59:56with notifications on, leave me a comment and share this around

- 2:00:07me out tremendously, especially when YouTube doesn't seem to
- 2:00:11like our content as much these days.
- 2:00:14There will be a new and terrifying case for an episode
- 2:00:17coming out very soon, and I did want to thank you guys as always
