- 1:36SPEAKER_01: And I really, really enjoy it because it's become my go-to for anything that has to do with removing SPF, makeup, any makeup removal.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, really, um, just I keep it by my bed, use it almost every day, and I just stop thinking about it.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's I've never really done that with any kind of makeup remover products before.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: So I'm really excited and I want to dive in.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: But before we do, I want to introduce you guys to the founders of Strip.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, welcome to the show, Riley and Sean.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Hey there, Ecta.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much for having us on.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're so excited.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: I'm excited to be able to do that.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Oh no, it's it's it's truth, you know.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think uh truth is always the best compliment, right?
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: And I really do use them every day because they're very, very like for me specifically, they're really great, you know, for my skin type and they help me stay nourished, they help my skin stay supple and soft, and I don't feel like I've overstripped it, and I really, really love them.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna trust me, I'm gonna rave all interview about this guy's for everyone listening.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: But that's that's why we do it.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: There's nothing more exciting than uh creating a product that somebody uses every day in their routine.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I know, and and you've done such a great job.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's really um before the interview started, everyone listening.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: I was talking to both Raleigh and Sean about how, you know, somehow I always stumble upon these like you know, just staple products in my routine, and they're always like somehow male founders are behind them, you know, like it's crazy.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: It just becomes this it, I don't know, it it's it's strange to me.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'm like the only one, or I don't know, but for me, it's very interesting to see that.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: But I'm excited to learn about you guys, and um, that's really where I want to start.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Um, Sean and Riley.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: I want to learn all about where you guys um began this journey, and before that, even you know, where your career started and how you ended up in the skincare space.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: If maybe Sean, you could get us started and Riley can I absolutely yeah.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: I um I have a very interesting and eclectic background.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: I actually started my career in talent management in Los Angeles, um, working with celebrities and managing their careers.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: Um, and I uh, you know, always had kind of an entrepreneur entrepreneurial spirit, and a lot of my clients were actually going to uh one gal in in Los Angeles that was a celebrity eyebrow and makeup artist.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: And um I got to know her very well, and she wanted to create a line of eyebrow cosmetic products.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: Um, really at the time it was only on a sauce of Beverly Hills, um, and she had actually worked with her in the past.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: And uh so she she uh had you know a line of products that that she wanted to roll out and asked me to come on and partner with her.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: And I really didn't know the beauty space that much.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: I I graduated with a biochemistry degree, but wanted to go into medicine, and that didn't work.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: So I, you know, I knew a little bit about that side, but not much about the industry.
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: And, you know, really was fortunate um enough.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: I I transitioned completely into beauty and you know, left the talent world.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: And I loved the idea of um, you know, one creating something that people love and use use every day, but this idea of creating something tangible that, you know, I could sell that made people feel better rather than you know somebody's career or you know, the idea of a person.
- 5:05SPEAKER_03: So um it really just you know, I caught the bug and uh and I ran you know that company for about four years before exiting it and was really fortunate to you know get to know so many great mentors in the industry and you know really just learn by working hard and um you know learning the business and hustling it, you know, into stores and into people's hands.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: Um and you know, for from there, I um I kind of jumped around to you know starting or becoming a part of several other companies.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: Um, those were anything from uh makeup eraser um to sugar bear hair um and even uh Mally's, which was a uh booty mask we did with Chloe Kardashian.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I've had had a few um a few um beauty brands over the years, and uh that's where this you know brand was really born, is actually my time at Makeup Eraser and the other founders, um and one of the founders, Lexi, um who's since sold the company, very innovative.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: You know, she had the first makeup removal wipe um that was reusable just with water.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: And we had such a great loyal fan base, but I always said, you know, I really want to create an entire line of makeup removal products that, you know, work for every different type of skin type, work for a collection of you know, of gals and people out there, um, and really educate customers.
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: Um, and that was something we never did.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: So I I kept it in the back of my head.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: And uh Riley can give his background, but when you know we've been friends forever and linked up on this, we both had such a you know personal, um, personal background um and felt like it was a really underserved market that we, you know, we wanted to um to to enter and you know really be the experts in.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Riley, I'd love for you to jump in here.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: Definitely.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: So my background is a little less glamorous than Sean's, and I'm a bit more new to beauty.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: Uh definitely have caught the bug the same way, though.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: So, you know, for me, a lot of my professional background is really in helping to raise money for startups and then helping run operations in startups.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: So that was my background professionally.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: When Sean came to me about this idea, you know, it's very fortunate because to be quite honest with you, I'm not a makeup user.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Uh however, when I was younger, I was an actor for years.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: And so I've had my makeup done thousands of times sitting in a makeup artist chair, and I've had my skin absolutely destroyed by really harsh cleansing products on numerous occasions.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: And for me, I always thought that maybe it was just a personal problem or something kind of related to, you know, the heavier, harsher nature of the makeups and then the removal products you would need to use on a set as opposed to in your daily life.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: So when Sean came to me and you know said, Hey, I'm thinking about leaving sugar bear hair and I really want to start uh a brand focused on cleansers, I was like, uh, I feel like there's tons of cleansers out there.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: You know, what what is different, or you know, why would we want to get involved in this particular space?
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: And so I started talking to every woman in my life, my mother, my sisters, all of my female friends.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: And I was really shocked to, you know, basically hear the response that I'd say only one in every 15 or 20 people I talked to really loved their cleansing product or their makeup removal product.
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: And the rest seemed kind of ambivalent, or some had even given up the category entirely and were using things like coconut oil.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: And so I think, you know, when you mentioned earlier that it's you find it funny that some of your favorite brands are uh led by male founders.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: I can say it definitely in our case that you know, I think for me it took me as an outsider to ask what seemed like a very obvious question, which is why don't brands make cleansers that people love?
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: No, I love that.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: No, it you know what's so interesting about what you said is that there are more women that do that, you know, in terms of like giving up these conventional cleansing products and just going back to like what their grandmothers taught them or what their mothers taught them than we realize.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: And you're so on the spot with that because I actually, you know, I was speaking to my own mother a few months ago, actually.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: This is way before we had ever connected, you know, or anything.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: And I was even talking to her.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: I was like, Mom, do you need a good cleanser?
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: She's like, Why?
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: She's like, I'm I'm fine.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: I like the way I cleanse my face.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: I'm like, how do you cleanse your face?
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: And she literally riley said the same thing.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: She's like, I use coconut oil, that's all I need.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh my gosh, I had no idea.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: You have a like, you have a daughter's doctor, you know, both our kids are doctors.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: I run a skincare podcast.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Why are you using coconut oil?
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: You know, and so she was like, No, I I love it.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: It does the job and it, you know, whatever.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: But she, I think for her, it was more like, well, why would I use another aqueous, you know, based cleanser when I can just, you know, put this on my face, it's gonna get rid of everything, or even you know, go all these, all these steps, right?
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: We've become we've come into this uh culture now where everything is like 15 steps, you know, or three-step cleansing or two-step.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, it there's a place for that, but at the end of the day, a good product is a good product.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: That's that's really the you know, something you said that's interesting is you know, it it does the job.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: Like we we heard that a lot.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, some it with your makeup remover or cleanser, you know, the bare minimum that it should do is actually remove your makeup.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: And it is the first step in you know your overall skincare routine.
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: And a lot of these cleansers are makeup removers.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: They actually, you know, they some of them do get your makeup off, sure, but they're really setting back your skin.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: You know, you have to use so many different, you know, skincare products or double cleanse, use a toner, you know, things that um that you know really you shouldn't have to if you're doing that right, you know, that first step correctly.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: No, exactly, Sean.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: And I think that the interesting part about all of this is how you guys have formulated your cleansers because obviously, you know, I was doing my own reading and for everyone listening.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: I always encourage you guys to follow along in the podcast.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Like if you're you know interested in really learning about the brand even further, like by going to their website.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: So I'm just gonna mention that real quick here.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: It's strippmakeup.com is where you can find all of the information about the brand.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: And you know, that's kind of where um you're gonna find the information that we're already talking about here.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: And I and I really encourage you to check it out as we as we chat because that helps.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: I've learned from you guys through your emails.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: So um I just wanted to say that real quick, but no, going back to your point, I Sean, I want I wanted to say, you know, people believe that there is a necessity now for three, four, five steps, you know what I mean, to get to that point of healthy skin, you know, where your skin is now at the ideal pH, where your skin is now primed for makeup or whatever it may be, right?
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, for for many of us, it's not even makeup.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Sometimes it's just, you know, wash your face, put on some sunscreen.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: And so even then, people have been brainwashed, I feel like, through marketing to believe, oh, a cleanser can all it can do is just strip all the oils off your face, you know, or all the makeup off your face.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: And that's just not true.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: And that's where I really want to kind of pivot into, you know, my favorite product by yours, which is the caviar um makeup remover.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I love this one because it's packed with so much cool stuff.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: And I really want you to dive into it with your biochemistry background and tell us about the science, the caviar jelly makeup remover.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: This one is really special.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: And Sean, I oh go ahead, Riley.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I I all I was gonna say was yeah, that that one is special, and it took us a very long time to formulate and find uh find the right you know partner to work on that with us.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: But Riley, go ahead.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: So this one's really cool, and you know it's so interesting the way a lot of brands approach these products.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: And you know, you kind of said it already that people feel like there needs to be three, four steps, you know, especially in cleansing.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: I think that's a lot because these products generally don't work very well, right?
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: And it's really amazing to me, you know, when I first got involved and see people leaving reviews of makeup removers and they were shocked that it worked, that it got their makeup off.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: And I was like, isn't that how are we accepting any less than that?
- 13:38unknown: Yeah.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: I think that's where people have left and gone to, you know, things like coconut oil.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: But as far as these products go, uh, you know, we really took a holistic look at makeup removal and cleansing.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: And this is a place that, you know, particularly bothered me personally because as I studied the science behind these products, they're essentially the same thing.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: And I was like, these brands are really trying to sell people two products that do the exact same thing uh in terms of how they actually work and how they get the dirt, the oil, the grime, the makeup, the impurities off of your face, really anything that's on your skin that you want to remove.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: And so as we studied that and said, how do we build a cleanser that people really love, that's really good for your skin?
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: What we started looking at was why most cleansers are not good for your skin.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: And what we found are three main reasons, you know, three main areas really in which cleansers set your skin back before you've even gotten to skincare.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: And just at a high level, those are they remove a ton of the hydration from your skin.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: They unbalance your pH, causing it to be very alkaline, which causes a whole host of skincare issues we can dive into.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: And then it really strips your skin of a lot of those essential nutrients, the vitamins, the micronutrients, the things your skin needs to thrive.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: And that's actually where the name came from strip makeup, strip your makeup, not your skin.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Uh so the caviar jelly specifically, and it's my favorite cleanser too, to be honest, of the two that we have.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: Uh we really dove in and said, how do we uh address all three of these core issues and give great cleansing efficacy?
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: Uh and so where we found, and Sean mentioned that it took us a long time to find a partner, we actually spent about three years building this product.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: And we went through, I think it was 17 or 18 different labs before we found uh capsom who actually helps us formulate this product and are incredible.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: Uh, really love them, and they've been phenomenal.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: And so this is a technology that actually came out of Harvard called microfluidics.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: And at a high level, what it does, so if you see this product, there's all these little uh we call them caviar bubbles.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: It's a vegan product, there's absolutely no caviar in it.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: Uh, but we call them caviar bubbles, and they're suspended in a gel.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: And that's actually the microfluidic process.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: There's no micro beads, there's no microplastics.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: That's actually just fluid suspended in the gel.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: And that allows us to make this product with no emulsifiers and use less stabilizers and less preservatives.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: So it winds up being a much cleaner product, a much better product for your skin.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: A lot of those, you know, products or ingredients aren't actually doing anything for your skin that most people need to put in their formulas.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: We don't have any of that in the caviar.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: So right there, it's already a really exciting product.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, but then we figured out how to put some incredible skin care in there.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: So we have hyaluronic acid, which is ultra hydrating and really helps um keep that hydration in the skin.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: It binds uh water molecules at a weight ratio of a thousand to one.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: So you're getting a ton of extra hydration in your skin.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: And then from there we move on to balancing that pH.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: So we have vitamin C in there.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: You know, a lot of people use vitamin C serums, but this really does a phenomenal job.
- 17:02SPEAKER_02: Your skin's pH is supposed to be around 4.7.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: This is a little bit acidic.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Most cleansers, you know, if you just put soap and water, which is essentially what micellar water is, that usually pH as high as nine or 10.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: So you're really unbalancing your skin's pH.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: And this can lead to a lot of stuff, you know.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: Just on the surface, a lot of that redness and irritation that you experience after cleansing, or most people experience after cleansing, this is actually an effect of your pH being unbalanced.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: But there's actually quite a few other issues that come from this.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Uh a lot of the bacteria that causes acne thrives at an alkaline pH.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: So if you have acne issues, that can be potentially one of the reasons.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: Uh, a higher pH really degradates and destroys the acid mantle, which is an essential part of your skin's barrier.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: So your skin's long-term health is compromised.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: And it takes about eight to ten hours for your barrier to recover.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: If you destroy it like this on a consistent basis, so if you're cleansing morning and night for weeks and months on end, it can actually severely uh damage your skin's barrier in a way that can take months to recover.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, you know what, Riley, that is such an excellent point that you made about the micellar water, especially.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Because, you know, what's crazy is I always see, you know, influencers especially pushing this idea of just use a makeup wipe or use micler water or use and no, no, no, no, don't do that.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Please don't do that.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Because I I remember before the podcast even started, I remember I've always been a skincare enthusiast.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: So, like I would be using these different products, and it would be usually these kind of wipes, you know what I mean?
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Like wipes or mice, whatever you want to call it.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: And I always wondered why the next morning my skin looked as if I freaking ran over it with like a truckload of retinol, like a bad purging day from retinol or something like that.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: And it was like crazy to me, and I never understood that, but like what you're saying, it just adds up so much because you know, at the end of the day, not only are we, like you said, damaging the barrier, but I think a lot of people don't understand that the acid mantle is actually fatty acids.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: So if you're taking those, like if you're destroying your fatty acids to put those back into your skin and to put them, put those right ratio of things back in place, that's a lot harder, right?
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: The people always say it's a lot harder to fix something than to break it.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: And that's very, very, very true for your skin.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, it'll take you a day or two to break something, but you know, or not even a day, maybe.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: And but to repair that is a huge process.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: And so that's why, like, you know, I feel like your products for me stand out because, you know, I really wanted to mention that I can feel all the ingredients that you're talking about because I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I leave it on.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: Like the caviar jelly cleanser, I love it so much because I'm a very like, you know, a lot of us are very busy people.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: And I think sometimes when we're just cleansing, like on the go, we have, you know, we're doing other things, whatever.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: You don't want to be you're not gonna do that on your sink, right?
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Just leave a random cleanser on your face.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: Usually we just wet, you know, you know, get it off our face with water, whatever.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: But with this one, you can just cleanse, you know, and you can do something else real quick, leave it on for a minute or two, and that's fine.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: And your skin actually comes out beautiful, you know what I mean?
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: I I love that you do that, and it's it's pretty funny because we've actually gotten that feedback quite a few times.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: You know, I I think to most people, the idea of leaving a cleanser on their skin for any significant amount of time, is horrifying almost.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: But you really can use this nearly as a mask.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: And you know, what you said about it being harder to fix something than it is to break something is so true.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: And one of the things that has been most shocking to me as I've gotten deeply involved in skincare, is how much of your skincare routine, unbeknownst to most people, is actually just undoing the damage you did with your cleansing step.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: It's really shocking when you realize how many products are meant to, like you said, put those fatty acids back in, balance your pH, rehydrate and remoisturize your skin.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: These are all things that your cleanser isn't causing you to need to do.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: And um the other great thing with with the caviar as well is you know, it takes a little time for those um for the caviar bubbles to actually, you know, burst and uh and and work into the skin.
- 21:21SPEAKER_03: And you know, that's that's an interesting step in it because you should actually cleanse for you know at least 45 seconds um with with with your normal routine for your cleanser to really take effect.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: And so it actually makes you do that as you work those in and you know watch those break down and work into your skin.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: You actually took the words out of my brain um there, Sean, because I really, really believe that you know you really should be cleansing your face for at least 60 seconds.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: And this allows you to do that.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: This actually allows you to do that.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: If I were to do that with like my everyday drugstore cleanser, I would sit.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: There and like feel my face burn to a crisp.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: I feel like I don't think I would enjoy that at all.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, no.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean it's a very harsh analogy.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: I know, I know, but you know, it's at the end of the day, it's it's all about experience.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: And I feel like if you can have a product in your hands that you really genuinely enjoy using, making those little moves, like making those changes, getting those habits of you know, 45 second cleansing, you know, leaving it on your face, letting the nutrients work.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: All of these things that we talk about on a science level, those things become second nature.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: And that's the whole point of a good product is let the science be there, but the science should always be working in the back backdrop.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: You shouldn't always have to be thinking about, well, what should I layer with this so that the science comes together?
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: No, that's that's not the point, you know.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: So I mean, I always ask brands, I'm like, you know, what do you think is important in terms of, you know, there's a lot of articles out now, and there's a lot of conversation.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: I've I've been reading, you know, there's a lot of publications that might publish things like, well, is it the consumer's job, you know, to do the homework, blah, blah, blah.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: These kind of articles.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: And I always find myself commenting, no, it's the company's job to make sure that they're putting the right stuff in their products, you know, because at the end of the day, the science, as I'm sure both of you know very well, you know, is that's up to the people making the products to make sure the science is in line.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: And the fact that yours is, it, I mean, that's wonderful because if someone's just cleansing their face, that's all they want to think about is cleansing their face.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: You know, they don't want to think about does this have vitamin E, does this have you know vitamin C, whatever you know, ingredient they think is going to benefit their skin?
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: They want it to just do the job.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: So I think from that um angle, you guys are very unique to me because um I've really not seen any other cleansing line do this, or really any cleanser from any line do this.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: Because really, I mean, we are still following the dated method of get everything off your skin.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: And that really leads me to my second, you know, kind of like question, which is uh this whole idea of double cleansing.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: Because I'll be honest with you, I don't double cleanse their products.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: Your products, like I will use the jelly cleanser, and because, like you had mentioned, you know, it has all of these wonderful ingredients in it.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: I actually just let it do its job.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: And even at night, when I'm taking everything off, um, I wipe it off with the re you know, either the reusable or non-reusable wipes, by the way.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: That those are the other products in the line for everyone listening, which I'm obsessed with the um better than naked premium cotton cleansing wipes.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: I'm obsessed with these.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Like these are literally like tissues for your skin.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: Like they're so great.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, I love them.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I just take it off and leave it.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: I don't need sometimes I don't need anything else, you know?
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: And so that's where I feel like, you know, I want your opinion about this whole uh, you know, idea of double cleansing.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Have we gone too far with that idea?
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Do we really need it?
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, have you guys thought about creating like an you know aqueous-based cleanser as well to go hand in hand?
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't think you need it, but have you thought about it?
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Those kind of questions.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: We've talked a lot about double cleansing because it's a big thing.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: And real quick before we get into this, I do want to give Sean a really big shout out here because to your point about is it the brand's responsibility or the consumer's responsibility?
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: I really think it is the brand's responsibility.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: I totally agree with you there.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: And Sean from the beginning has been such a big proponent of we need to make products that make people feel like cleansing is self-care, not this in-between step.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: It isn't something I need to do to get to my skincare.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: It's the first step in skincare, and it should feel really lovely while you're doing it.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: And that's something that he's been a champion of since we started this brand.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad, Sean.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: Thank you for doing that, because that's very important for real, is really important.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I'm glad you gave him a shout out, really.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: That's very as far as the double cleansing thing goes, I it's such a simple answer.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: Uh, and it's twofold, right?
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: The first thing I always tell people is do what you love.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: If you love double cleansing, if that's what makes you feel good, then double cleanse.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: The second part of that answer is double cleansing, you know, a lot of people talk about it as this necessary step in routine, you have to double cleanse for these reasons.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: Double cleansing only exists because most products don't do the job well enough on their own.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: So if you have a product that has the efficacy to clean your skin, and you know, in the beginning I said cleansers and makeup removers are really the same product, and that is that they're based on a surfactant, you know, which is a fancy word for soap generally.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: But even if it isn't soap, there's a few other uh ingredients that function in the same way.
- 26:41SPEAKER_02: And to get really nerdy for a second, the way they work is that they change the surface tension between objects.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: So that's really anything that's on your skin and your skin.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: And that's how all of this is washed off, and and you know, your pores are opened up in this dirt, oil, grime, makeup, the impurities, they're all lifted away.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: And so if you have a product that does that well, you have no reason to double cleanse.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: If it gets all of your makeup off, and I'd love to hear that ours does, uh, you know, if it leaves your skin feeling clean, and I'd love to hear that ours does, why would you cleanse again?
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and double cleansing to us too, at least with our current range, um, you know, a lot of customers love to use the wipe, either, you know, the 100% premium cotton disposable wipes or you know, the reusable ones that you can even use with just water and uh and and wash for up to you know a thousand uses.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: Um, but they like to you know remove sometimes heavy eye makeup, um, you know, or lip makeup first before going in with their their cleanser.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: So that's kind of you know how how we do our double cleansing.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: We also have a um an oil-based cleanser with our whipped coconut um that we do see some people skin cycling between both uh the the whipped coconut and the caviar, um, just kind of more to you know keep their skin guessing and um uh rather than you know having to use them to get all of their makeup off.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: Um, we do have a lot of products in the pipeline as well, um more for you know in-shower cleansers, on the go, um, just a bunch of different formats that you know people may be more used to or um you know like as kind of just traditional staples in their in their skincare and cleansing routine.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: I love that you guys are still, you know, you're still trying to innovate, come up with, I mean, you've really done a great job though with these two products.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna say, you know, the whipped coconut was the next one that I wanted to move on to.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: And I'm glad you um you were kind of segued into that, Sean.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: But I I mean, just to add to your point, I think, you know, between the two, I don't, I as a consumer have no need, you know what I mean, for like extra because I love what you've created.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, I literally use it every day, and I use both of them.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: So this the whipped coconut one is great for days where I'm feeling like extra dry because I work at the hospital.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: So a lot of people, um, anyone listening in who might be a nurse or a doctor or anyone who's in the hospital scene, you guys know that like, you know, the air is always blowing, your skin is always being stripped, it's being dehydrated constantly.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's just a problem, you know, in the healthcare field, I feel like in general.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: And so sometimes I'll come home and I will use the whipped coconut makeup remover.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: And I, again, you know, this is all I need.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: My skin is perfectly happy after I use this, wipe it off.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: And I love the wipes, by the way.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: The the dispos, you know not the um reusable ones.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, I like those as well, but I'm really not a reusable kind of person.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: I like the um premium cotton ones because they, like I said, they feel like tissues to me.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: So it's like a box of tissues you can put right next to your, you know, wherever it is you usually do your self-care routine at night.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: And it's just easy and it's quick.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: And, you know, everything, it's like you guys have thought about everything.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: Like the whole ritual of cleansing.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: You've thought it out.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: And so with this one, the coconut one, what I really love is one, it hits home for me because being Indian myself, you know, coconut is a huge part of my, you know, upbringing.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: It's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: You know, my mother used it in food, she used it in my hair for, you know, coconut oil massages, she used it for like cleansing our skin in bath time, you know, whatever that may have been, it was always part of my life.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: And so, like when I first experienced it, first of all, it just it I loved it because the scent is so subtle but perfect, but also mostly because of the effect, right?
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Because I love the way it felt.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: I love the way it left my skin feeling, which was extremely soft at the end of the day, you know.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: So I think this product is again very, very revolutionary, you know.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: It's not something where I feel the need to go into my bathroom and be like, oh, okay, now I gotta use water and some other cleanser to just excessively strip this off because now I feel greasy.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: This leaves you feeling wonderful, it leaves you feeling hydrated and nourished.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: And, you know, that's that's where I'm like just so in awe of you guys because you've really, I mean, you've cracked the code here with cleansing.
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 31:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's what is Riley mentioned.
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: You know, so many people had given up and were just using coconut oil.
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: So we wanted to create something that, you know, that was for those customers and you know, reach reached those people, but you know, wasn't as drying and you know, co uh pork logging as you know, just using a over-the-counter, you know, cooking coconut oil.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: We really wanted to infuse those, you know, skincare benefits and feed those from our brand into that.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: No, it shows, it definitely shows.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: That's definitely one of the things about it, right?
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: And we made this, like Sean said, really specifically for all those people who had had such bad experiences with makeup removers that they abandoned the category and went to coconut oil.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: And there's a lot of great benefits to coconut oil, but the reality is it's a cooking oil, and you really shouldn't be putting it on your face.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: It clogs your pores.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: Uh, and that's something that we get asked a lot about this product.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: Well, if it has coconut oil in it, how is this non-comatogenic?
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: And that's you know, one of the miracles of the science is it actually washes out the part that clogs the pores while keeping in all the really wonderful hydrating benefits.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: Uh, coconut oil is antimicrobial, antibacterial, antiviral.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: So there's a lot of wonderful benefits in there.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: But you know, really something that you've touched on a few times, and I love about the products is the skincare aspect of it.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: And, you know, so similar to the caviar jelly, this product also rehydrates your skin.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: It also balances your pH.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: But then, you know, the third part of that is the skincare.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: And so these products are very different in terms of what they do for your skin.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: And to kind of pull back a little bit, if you'll just give me that opportunity, uh we see a lot of people, because cleansing products are really the same, choose their cleanser based on, well, I like this product feel and weight and texture.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: Is it a water?
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: Is it an oil?
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: Is it a balm?
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: But the reality is what we're working towards is you being able to choose a cleanser based on your skincare needs.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: So this whipped coconut cleanser is really meant to restore your skin's microbiome.
- 33:18SPEAKER_02: So a lot of those micronutrients, a lot of the vitamins, a lot of the things your skin needs just at a base level to thrive and stay healthy, we built this product to give that to your skin.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: Whereas the caviar jelly is really an incredible anti-aging product that is built around restoring the lipids, the things that keep your skin supple and elastic.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: And, you know, something that we did that we think or we feel really sets us apart as a brand with both these products is we went and had them clinically tested.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: And you can tell me if you are aware of any other cleansers that do this, but I haven't found a single other cleanser or makeup removal product that has gone through clinical testing other than maybe some consumer perception stuff.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, yeah, I'm I'm at a loss as well.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: No, you're right.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's some phenomenal.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: Because we make some really, really big and almost unbelievable claims about what this does for your skin.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: And we wanted people to, you know, have the faith that this product really does what we say it does.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: So, you know, similar to the the caviar in this whipped coconut, uh, you know, we have mango seed butter, we have shea butter, there's vitamin E, there's vitamin A.
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: It's really meant to restore a lot of those fatty acids we talked about earlier.
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: It really rehydrates skin.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: We have some incredible antioxidants to help restore that glow, protect from oxidative stress.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: There's white tea extract, and there's ginseng root.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: These are things that are really meant to get the circulation going through your skin.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: So your body delivers a lot of those short-chain amino acids, uh, a lot of the peptides, a lot of the micronutrients, everything your skin needs to thrive and be healthy.
- 34:56SPEAKER_02: And so part of the reason your skin feels so great after using it is because I uh I really like to avoid saying three in one or two in one, or talking about how this product could or might replace other products.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: We just built it to not do the damage that most cleansers do.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, you built it like a skincare product, really.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, if you think about it, I mean you all both of the products are they're like heavy, like you know how people talk about, well, I need five serums to make sure I have everything, right?
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: Everything you just described to me, Riley, is literally like putting three serums in a bottle, you know what I mean, and making sure that you have that on your face.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Like that, I I'm obsessed with the fact that you did that because at the end of the day, let's be real, you need the nutrients regardless of where you get them for your skin, you know.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: And I always tell people this, but I love that you have this multi-layered, you know, approach in the formula, because at the end of the day, who has time to think about, you know, well, I need the antioxidants, but I also need this, and I also need the nourishing and the moisturizing and the vitamin E.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: And I mean, we all want to think like that, right?
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: Ideally, but as consumers who are again very busy, we all have lives, we all have, especially, you know, I think of male consumers a lot, you know, recently, and that's another point I want to touch upon with your products.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, you we don't none of us have the time anymore to think about the 15 different serums to combine to make sure our skin is nourished.
- 36:22SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: So, like, this is really like you guys are so ahead of the game here in the sense of like these aren't just cleansers, they're full-fledged, you know, mini skincare routines in a cleanser.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: Like, that's how I see it.
- 36:34SPEAKER_03: You know, absolutely.
- 36:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:36SPEAKER_03: And, you know, I mean, there's so many external and internal stressors that people, you know, face that, you know, are are creating issues for their skin.
- 36:44SPEAKER_03: And, you know, a lot of them are, you know, hard, hard to control or take a long time.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: And, you know, whenever I see that and face that, I always, I always go, you know, to the cleanser.
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: Well, what cleanser are you using?
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: You know, let's see if you switch that out for you know something that's actually great for your skin, if that's going to make a difference.
- 37:03SPEAKER_03: And a lot of times it does.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: You know, it's I've found it very interesting to, you know, kind of test that with um customers and you know, also just uh just you know, people in the industry or uh, you know, or friends of ours.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I think it's something that you can really control um, you know, very very easily and it makes a huge difference.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: For me, it's really about redefining what cleansing is.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: And you know, we touched earlier on this idea of so many people see makeup removal and cleansing as this in-between step.
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: You know, I have my makeup and I love doing my makeup, or you know, I wear what I need to, whatever it is for you personally.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: And before I get to my skincare, I need to get my makeup off.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: Rather than removing my makeup and cleansing my face, is the first step in my skincare routine because it can have a huge positive or negative impact on your skin.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: So it really is important, and you know, this idea of it being this unpleasant in-between step is it doesn't serve any of us.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: And when I started this brand with Sean, and when I was really exploring the space and looking at it, it I you know, I just found myself asking why is it that every makeup user needs to use a product every day that's harming their skin?
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: And the answer is that's unacceptable to me.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: And so we set out to really change what cleansing is.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, I I want, I hope this brand completely redefines that space is you know, cleansing is something that really sets your skin up for success and is maybe the part of your skincare that you begin to look forward to the most.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: See, you know what's interesting about what you're saying, Riley, is that I feel like you know, uh the science community, we are like, right, we're all just we're free thinkers and we're just we understand that the the truth in the labor is in the future.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: It's like I think there was a quote by Nikola Tesla, and he was explaining this that we don't work for the present, we work for the future.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: And I think every good brand that I've come across, every great brand, you know, and and this obviously includes strip, you know, it I've seen this time and time again, that the formula and the way and the vision and the approach is all geared for this future that we're coming towards as an industry.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: And that is of true inclusivity without compromising science and results.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: And at the end of the day, that's just not going to happen if we keep this conventional route going with cleansing, just as you described.
- 39:36SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: In the sense of no one should have to keep doing the same thing over and over again that's not working and not have real benefit at the end of the day, guys.
- 39:47SPEAKER_01: Like, I mean, we spend too much money.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: You know, I always say this to every brand I interview, you know, you have to think about consumers when they're spending.
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: You know, we spend our hard-earned money on products, right?
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: All of us do that.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: So when you're spending your money, you want to make sure you're getting the best bang for your buck.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: That's the bottom line.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: You know, at the end of the day, does it work or does it not work?
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: And the the problem is everyone has these like, you know, exuberant claims about science sometimes.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: My question always is but science dictates that whatever you are working towards should be an observable effect, right?
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: That's how you prove a hypothesis to be true.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: So when you're approaching any kind of skincare, even, you know, or makeup even or whatever it is, you and you're approaching it from the lens of science.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: Your goal should be what am I seeing as a result of using this, right?
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: As a consumer, I'm talking to the consumers here.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, you guys should be asking yourselves, what am I seeing visibly that I know for a fact is right here in front of my eyes?
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: And that is that you're gonna see a difference in the way your skin looks after you use strip cleansing product products versus your drugstore products.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: Bottom line, I promise you that.
- 40:59SPEAKER_01: And that's where I, you know, I feel like we just we get so lost, you know.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: And people always tell me, like, Ector, you know, you focus so much on science and you focus so much on all this stuff.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, well, that's the truth of it, because at the end of the day, science is observation.
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: And if you can't observe the effects of what you're using, then you're wasting your money, you know, that's the end all be all.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: So I think with, you know, when I first, I even remember when I first got the products and I tried them, I immediately fell in love with them.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm not exaggerating.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: Like at the end of the day, if you don't feel that way about your products, if you're not getting there, if they're not taking you to a place where you feel like you've spent your money or you've, you know, for me, you know, I was gifted the products, but if you feel like your products are not getting that, then you're going to have to reevaluate what it is you're putting your money behind and how you're voting with your dollars.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: Because at the end of the day, I don't see a better cleansing line out there.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna be real with you guys.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: I don't.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: And that's not me, you know, trying to sell you anything for all the listeners.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: That's me being honest with you, as always.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: You know, this is the line.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: If you want a good cleansing line, just go to them.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: You don't need to keep looking over and over again.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: You don't have to buy the cleanser from your cult favorite serum line.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, some people are gonna make great serums, some people are gonna make great moisturizers, some people are gonna make great oils, whatever.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: But some people are gonna make amazing cleansers.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: And this is the first line I've seen that's actually thought about cleansing as an actual step, just like Riley explained.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: It shouldn't be an afterthought, it should be an actual step in your routine that's priming your skin.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: You know, like for example, Riley, you know, you had made such a great point.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: I I don't remember if it was yourself or Sean, but you guys had said something about toning very early in the episode, and it really uh resonated with me because I feel like toning is a step that could be avoided if you're just using the right cleanser.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: Because the only point of toning your face is to bring it to that pH level, which Riley explained, which is that that 4.7 around that range.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: So if you can bring it there and you can just have your face at that point, sometimes you might not even need a toner.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: Like you might not, you might be able to skip a step if you're doing your cleansing the right way.
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: So I really encourage everybody, you know, you you really have to, even if you don't want to dive into science, dive into the the vision, you know what I mean, of the brand and try it and and go for it.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: You know, I know that and you guys have great bundles also, which I love.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: I love bundles whenever brands do that, because that lets uh consumers really experience the products.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: And I really encourage everybody, I would get both of them.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: I honestly would.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: I would get both of the cleansers and I would try them and I would get the wipes and just go for it, you know, and try it out instead of constantly looking for well, my brand that I'm used to isn't making the right thing.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: So, what do I do now?
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Well, you gotta explore, and this is it.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I'm I'm a huge believer in what you're doing.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: You guys, uh Riley and Sean, you guys are so awesome, and I I love what you're doing.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: And also, I wanted to ask you one more question before the end of the episode, and that was about the male consumer because this is so near and dear to my heart because I feel like men always get left.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Out.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: I really do.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: I feel like with the skincare scene, men always get left out and they're always wondering about options.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: And so I wanted to ask you, was that something you thought about when you were crafting your line?
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: Like about the male consumer as well?
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: Or I mean it was.
- 44:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it definitely was.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: I think, you know, obviously most men aren't, you know, aren't wearing makeup like you know, like women are or as much makeup.
- 44:22SPEAKER_03: They may be wearing a, you know, SPF or you know, a moisturizer, some some sort of tint.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: But you know, these are really great everyday cleansers.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: And you know, we we know that there's limited time in the day.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, the amount of people that you know get home and barely have time to, you know, remove their face or wash their face, you know, before bed, um, it's it's enormous.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: And so we we did think about both.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: I think, you know, obviously, you know, the female makeup, you know, user and wear um, you know, it was top and you know, forefront of our thinking.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: But we have so many male customers that are using this as you know, a daily cleanser and daily product.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: And you know, often it's the only product they're using, and they're seeing a real difference in their skin um very quickly.
- 45:10SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 45:10SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: I love because go ahead.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: Sorry, I'm sorry.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: I was saying, I I found something that's very funny to me.
- 45:17SPEAKER_02: I know I use this product every day, uh, just as a regular cleanser.
- 45:21SPEAKER_02: And, you know, more than thinking about men or women specifically, it was how do we make the best product for skin?
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: We all have skin.
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: So it's really for anybody that you know wants to experience better, more clean skin.
- 45:35SPEAKER_02: Uh, I've actually found quite a few men who have loved the whipped coconut product as a shaving cream.
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: And that one really shocked me because it does it not crossed my mind in any way.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that is actually brilliant.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: That you know what that makes me think of?
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: You know, all about I don't know, Riley, if you've ever heard of people tell well, obviously, I'm sure you have.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, um, you know, being a king yourself, I I I've heard it as a woman that men have a problem with ingrown hairs a lot when they're shaving.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: So, like, especially w uh men of color have told me that that you know, when we shave, it becomes a massive problem.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: Like, it's like you can't get rid of it, and you have to shave in a certain way to avoid that.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: So I can see this being a great shaving cream.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: That makes a lot of sense to me, actually, scientifically.
- 46:25SPEAKER_02: You you know, and it's it's one of the things, again, that's made me kind of just it it's tickled me a little bit.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: Um because it's very strange for me to think of a cleanser or makeup remover also being used as a shaving cream.
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: But I think for a lot of guys who, you know, haven't been introduced to skincare in the way that women have, and you know, maybe feel resistant to uh starting a skincare routine.
- 46:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, and this is something that we encounter with a lot of men.
- 46:54SPEAKER_02: Using it as a shaving cream feels like an accessible, easy way to still get the skincare benefits, but not have a skincare routine necessarily.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: That's brilliant.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: That's really brilliant.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: I love that they are actually utilizing it that way because that's exactly my point, is what you said here and the example you gave is that's what I worry about because men here, you know, here's the thing we are all human beings at the end of the day.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: I completely agree.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: I think that's wonderful.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: You guys did craft your product just for people in general.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: But I mean, I really do worry about the male consumer that feels shy still to go into a skincare aisle and buy something, you know what I mean?
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: Like, um, there's a lot of men I know, you know, friends, um, colleagues that I bring skincare up to them and they literally go, Oh my god, come on, you know, that that's their response.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, no, I mean it.
- 47:44SPEAKER_01: You know, if you just try this some of this stuff, you're gonna really like it.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: And they still won't be convinced.
- 47:50SPEAKER_01: But I really the reason I I thought about you guys, um, especially with this topic was because the packaging is so, I feel like, conducive towards anybody.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, as a woman, I love the packaging.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: I've shown it to my fiance.
- 48:03SPEAKER_01: He loves the packaging.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: He's like, Oh yeah, this is cool as hell.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: You know, like he's like, he literally told me like this is very, I like how minimalistic it is, but it's like very, you know, it tells you exactly what the product does, and it's got I he really likes your logo, by the way.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: I wanted to tell you that he loves your logo, and you know, I I loved hearing that response from him, you know what I mean?
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: As like just as a normal everyday guy, you know, he literally was like, Yeah, I like this stuff, it's really nice, you know, it feels nice.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, exactly.
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: See, don't you feel better doing that?
- 48:33SPEAKER_01: Like using the products.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: So I mean, at the end of the day, it's really about, you know, I feel like a lot of women can relate to that, right?
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: It's like we have husbands and and and brothers and boyfriends and fiancés, and we want to introduce them to great products, but unfortunately, sometimes, you know, even the packaging might turn somebody off, or the feel of something might turn somebody off.
- 48:54SPEAKER_01: But you guys have really hit everything on the head, you know, nailed it on the head.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: And I really applaud you for that because I think you've opened up a gate for a lot of, you know, just normal male consumers to be like, hey, I resonate with this product, it's a cool product, you know, I like it, it works for me.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: And if it's the one thing I need to do in my day, hey, that's cool with me, you know, because a lot of them do think like that, especially, you know, with my colleagues.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: You know, I have a friend of mine, he's I mean, he's you know, in surgery with me all the time, and he's always making fun of me because he's like, Why do you why do you feel the need to have 15 different products just to put on top of your face?
- 49:29SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, you know what?
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: I was like, you don't even get it.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: So those are the kind of guys I'm talking about.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 49:35SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm I'm referring to that specific demographic, and I think you guys are even hitting that demographic, you know.
- 49:41SPEAKER_02: And it's so true.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:43SPEAKER_02: And you know, going from having zero skincare routine and looking at a 10 or 15-step skincare routine can be daunting.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, very daunting, and it can be very confusing.
- 49:54SPEAKER_01: So I really, you know, I I love it.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: I think what you've done here is so, so phenomenal.
- 49:59SPEAKER_01: It's brilliant.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, it really, you know, the biochemistry background really shines here.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, I must say, I really enjoy the products myself.
- 50:07SPEAKER_01: And I know that, you know, many people out there who are listening, if you guys, you know, pay heed to any advice I ever give, I mean, this is the cleanser line.
- 50:16SPEAKER_01: You know, if I were to recommend any cleanser to anybody, it would be definitely one by strip.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: And I definitely stand behind that.
- 50:23SPEAKER_01: And I don't think, you know, as Riley very accurately pointed out, I haven't seen any other line come at me with clinical information and real data that says this is actually this efficacious.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: And, you know, that he's right.
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: There's really not much out there, guys.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: So, you know, vote with your dollars.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: That's my advice, you know, just and and check out the brand and dive in and try it out.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, hey, you're you got nothing to lose.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: The price, the price points are very accessible as well.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: I mean,$28 for a huge jar.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, the coconut, the whipped coconut makeup remover is$28 and it will last you for so long.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: Like, I still haven't hit halfway mark with mine, and I've had it for like a month.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: You don't need a lot, you just need to use it the right way and just you know what I mean, just do what you do.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: So it's really is a great investment, and I really encourage everybody to at the very least check it out.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: But thank you so much, Riley and Sean.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: This has been such an honor to host you both, and I really believe in what you're doing, so please continue doing it.
