Transcript
- 0:21Speaker 1: What's going on everyone? Emily body here you are listening
- 0:24Speaker 1: to five minute Friday from Hurdle. Happy Valentine's Day. I
- 0:29Speaker 1: might be the person, the first person that said that
- 0:31Speaker 1: to you today. Maybe I'm not, but I want to
- 0:36Speaker 1: talk a little bit about my journey with this holiday today.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I can't tell you the last time that I had
- 0:43Speaker 1: an actual Valentine, as in like a romantic partner on
- 0:48Speaker 1: Valentine's Day. Actually, that's a lie, I can I'm pretty
- 0:51Speaker 1: sure it was maybe like twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen. I
- 0:59Speaker 1: was dating someone and I came home from work on
- 1:02Speaker 1: Valentine's Day and he was in my apartment. He had
- 1:05Speaker 1: been let in by my roommate at the time, and
- 1:08Speaker 1: he was making chocolate covered strawberries in the kitchen, and
- 1:11Speaker 1: he had bought me as a gift for Valentine's Day
- 1:15Speaker 1: a ladle, which was a practical gift in that I
- 1:19Speaker 1: needed a ladle at the time. But in retrospect, I
- 1:22Speaker 1: can say that without a doubt, it was not the
- 1:25Speaker 1: gift I was that I was hoping for. Oh my god,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I'm just having a time thinking back to this Valentine's
- 1:34Speaker 1: Day still, Okay, So that was I don't know nine
- 1:37Speaker 1: ten years ago, and I have a positive association with
- 1:43Speaker 1: the day. Regardless. I know a lot of people are
- 1:47Speaker 1: or may feel some kind of way about this hallmark holiday,
- 1:52Speaker 1: but I feel as though, what an awesome time it
- 1:57Speaker 1: is for us to think on and focus on the
- 2:03Speaker 1: good things that love brings into our lives. Especially over
- 2:10Speaker 1: the last handful of years. I would say, throughout my thirties,
- 2:14Speaker 1: I have come into my own with self love and
- 2:19Speaker 1: practically feeling so much appreciation for what it is that
- 2:25Speaker 1: I bring to the table and how hard it is
- 2:28Speaker 1: some days simply to just show up and be right.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Every year on Valentine's Day, I have the same tradition,
- 2:38Speaker 1: which is, after whatever morning workout that I do today,
- 2:42Speaker 1: I have mile repeats, which I'm not so much looking
- 2:46Speaker 1: forward to. After my morning workout, I then take myself
- 2:51Speaker 1: to get a donut. And for years it was the
- 2:54Speaker 1: same Dunkin Donuts heart shaped donut. Last year I upgraded
- 2:59Speaker 1: and I went to a donut plant Valentine's Day appropriate
- 3:03Speaker 1: donut if you know you know. And so I do
- 3:06Speaker 1: the same tradition every year, and I take myself to
- 3:09Speaker 1: get this donut and I either eat it wherever I am,
- 3:13Speaker 1: or bring it home and I sit there and I
- 3:15Speaker 1: really do intentionally think about all the love that I
- 3:18Speaker 1: have in my life. I said this in my recording
- 3:21Speaker 1: with Diego earlier this week. If you haven't listened to
- 3:24Speaker 1: the Young Quabo episode, I highly highly encourage it. Love
- 3:30Speaker 1: is the foundation for so much in our lives, specifically
- 3:35Speaker 1: a foundation for aspects of our health and well being
- 3:38Speaker 1: as well. If you want love, you have to bring
- 3:42Speaker 1: love into your day to day. So even though maybe
- 3:46Speaker 1: you're going through something right now, and trust me, we
- 3:48Speaker 1: all are. I see you. You are not alone in
- 3:52Speaker 1: your struggles, yeah, but recognize that there is light to
- 3:57Speaker 1: be seen, joy to be seen, love to be found
- 4:00Speaker 1: in every single day. And so yeah, do I think
- 4:03Speaker 1: that we need one specific day each year to commemorate that?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Absolutely not. I believe that love is a twenty four
- 4:10Speaker 1: to seven process and thing to embrace. But I value
- 4:15Speaker 1: this day because maybe it is a little bit of
- 4:17Speaker 1: a reminder, especially in the times that feel turbulent and
- 4:22Speaker 1: chaotic and all of the things right. And so my
- 4:25Speaker 1: prompt for you this week on Valentine's Day is what
- 4:29Speaker 1: is one thing that you love about yourself? And one
- 4:34Speaker 1: decision that you've made thus far in twenty twenty five
- 4:39Speaker 1: that you also love. What is one thing that you
- 4:42Speaker 1: love about yourself and one decision that you've made in
- 4:46Speaker 1: twenty twenty five that you love as well? As you're
- 4:49Speaker 1: thinking about this today, tag me on Instagram, tag the
- 4:52Speaker 1: show over at Hurdle Podcast, and you know where to
- 4:54Speaker 1: find me. I'm over at Emily a Body. And before
- 4:57Speaker 1: I get into this week's listener question, let's see if
- 5:00Speaker 1: dy here's this buried in the episode. A happy happy
- 5:03Speaker 1: birthday to my stepmom Kathy A Valentine's Day baby. I
- 5:08Speaker 1: love you very very much. And now a listener question.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Hey Emily Tory here. I know this is a little
- 5:16Speaker 1: weird to ask, but I follow you on Instagram and
- 5:18Speaker 1: really feel inspired by your content. My question for you
- 5:21Speaker 1: this week is do you ever take a rest day?
- 5:25Speaker 1: Oh goodness, I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just
- 5:28Speaker 1: genuinely curious. You're always on the move and it's admirable,
- 5:32Speaker 1: but I'm wondering how rest days play into your weekly schedule.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Thanks so much, love the show, Toy Toy Toy. It's
- 5:39Speaker 1: a great question. Yes, I take rest days. I will
- 5:42Speaker 1: say this My rest days are often active recovery days,
- 5:46Speaker 1: and so what that looks like in my case is
- 5:49Speaker 1: either a super long walk or perhaps going to a
- 5:53Speaker 1: yoga class. It is pretty rare that I don't do
- 5:56Speaker 1: some sort of movement during the day. I am currently
- 6:00Speaker 1: on almost a year long streak of closing my rings,
- 6:03Speaker 1: which that excitement about movement encourages me not to be
- 6:09Speaker 1: a total couch dweller on a Sunday. My rest days
- 6:13Speaker 1: aren't always on Sundays. I have had them on Thursdays
- 6:17Speaker 1: or on Tuesdays. It just depends when I holistically sit
- 6:20Speaker 1: down and plan my week and look at the workouts
- 6:23Speaker 1: what makes sense for me and my body. Right now,
- 6:25Speaker 1: my training is four days a week of running and
- 6:28Speaker 1: four days a week of strength, and then I slip
- 6:30Speaker 1: in a yoga class here and there, and so yes,
- 6:34Speaker 1: as you can tell if you can do math, some
- 6:36Speaker 1: days I will do both strength and running on the
- 6:39Speaker 1: same day. And typically that's a day when I have
- 6:42Speaker 1: some sort of an easy run, like it's run a
- 6:44Speaker 1: five k, and then do a thirty minute strength workout.
- 6:49Speaker 1: And so I pair them responsibly with the help of
- 6:52Speaker 1: my strength coach and really dial in on what feels
- 6:55Speaker 1: best for me and my body. Now, I want to
- 6:58Speaker 1: make sure that I reiterate here everyone is different, and
- 7:02Speaker 1: so I'm not going to sit here and encourage everyone
- 7:05Speaker 1: to handle their rest days like I handle my rest days.
- 7:08Speaker 1: I have a very firm understanding of what feels good
- 7:11Speaker 1: for me, and some other individuals might feel better by
- 7:15Speaker 1: taking a total incomplete rest day one or two days
- 7:18Speaker 1: a week, or three days a week, or again, whatever
- 7:21Speaker 1: works for you and your body. I would just encourage you,
- 7:24Speaker 1: depending on what your goals are, to talk to someone
- 7:27Speaker 1: in a one on one capacity to plan out what
- 7:30Speaker 1: that structure could look like for you and what would
- 7:34Speaker 1: be best again for you and your goals. And that's it.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I hope that's helpful. Make sure you're following along with
- 7:40Speaker 1: us over on Hurdle and I want your listener questions,
- 7:42Speaker 1: so email them over at Hello at Hurdle dot us.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Again that Instagram at Hurdle podcast. I'm over at Emily
- 7:51Speaker 1: a Body. Happy love day, y'all. I appreciate you. Catch
