- 2:16Speaker 4: Good morning?
- 2:16Speaker 5: How are you?
- 2:17Speaker 2: I am doing fine, Thank you for being here. I'm
- 2:19Speaker 2: sure you've heard all of the jokes about story and author, right.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Yeah, so many I was at the Holly Jelly Brawley
- 2:27Speaker 4: this past weekend. So many they thought it was truly
- 2:31Speaker 4: just alias name.
- 2:33Speaker 2: But I have known you literally your whole life. I
- 2:35Speaker 2: can attest that your family name is story. That is
- 2:38Speaker 2: your that that's not an alias, that is your actual,
- 2:40Speaker 2: actual real name.
- 2:41Speaker 4: And my father's name was true love story.
- 2:43Speaker 2: That's true. That's very true. That that that's a true story. Stephanie,
- 2:47Speaker 2: by the way, Uh that's uh yeah, so uh anyway,
- 2:50Speaker 2: all right, so uh this may be a new field
- 2:53Speaker 2: to you. Were going to talk about your book that
- 2:55Speaker 2: you wrote a little bit later. But you people know
- 3:00Speaker 2: you because of you know, you've been in the world
- 3:02Speaker 2: of politics for some time, not as an elected official,
- 3:04Speaker 2: but you've been. You work for different people, different things
- 3:06Speaker 2: like that. So but but now you've decided to write
- 3:09Speaker 2: a book. It's an interesting and not about politics, I
- 3:12Speaker 2: mean about something. It's actually a Christmas book. So we're
- 3:15Speaker 2: going to talk about that a little bit later. But
- 3:17Speaker 2: give people your.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Background for those who may not know, sure, I was
- 3:20Speaker 4: born and raised in Man in Logan County, and that's
- 3:23Speaker 4: how really I know, Dave. My background actually started out
- 3:27Speaker 4: working in behavioral health. I worked there for five or
- 3:30Speaker 4: six years with adults with development developmental delays, and then
- 3:35Speaker 4: I transitioned to education. I got my master's in education,
- 3:38Speaker 4: taught school for a couple of years, and then I
- 3:40Speaker 4: met a man named Evan Jenkins when he was running
- 3:43Speaker 4: for Congress, and we hit it off and he was
- 3:47Speaker 4: elected beat Nick ray Hall, and I went to work
- 3:51Speaker 4: on his official in his official office. I was with
- 3:54Speaker 4: him for around three and a half years, and then
- 3:56Speaker 4: I went to work for Congressman Alex Munei for around
- 4:00Speaker 4: four years. And now I trained congressional staffers and members
- 4:04Speaker 4: of Congress full time. But before that, truthfully, I grew
- 4:09Speaker 4: up in a huge, huge family and we didn't have
- 4:12Speaker 4: a lot of money to have a lot of means.
- 4:14Speaker 4: But the memories I have and that we've made in
- 4:18Speaker 4: Man was something I would I wouldn't trade for anything.
- 4:21Speaker 4: But yeah, I fought around with politics for a while.
- 4:25Speaker 4: I worked on some campaigns. I mean, I remember when
- 4:29Speaker 4: in the coal fields, when being a Republican was a
- 4:33Speaker 4: scary thing. And then we transitioned, obviously in twenty fourteen
- 4:38Speaker 4: over to the Republicans taken over and when we actually
- 4:41Speaker 4: won elections, I started working full time for Congressman Jenkins.
- 4:45Speaker 4: And how I transitioned to an author. And my job
- 4:50Speaker 4: now is just solely just random, and that's all I
- 4:53Speaker 4: can tell you. It's verry random.
- 4:56Speaker 6: All right.
- 4:56Speaker 2: So you've written a book and it's called Christmas in
- 4:59Speaker 2: the Mountain State, and for people like me, it's got
- 5:01Speaker 2: a lot of pretty pictures and stuff in it too,
- 5:03Speaker 2: So that's always good time. Tell us, So what made
- 5:05Speaker 2: you decide to want to write this book?
- 5:07Speaker 4: Well, I truly wrote the book. Well, I'm gonna go
- 5:10Speaker 4: back to this a little bit. Okay, During COVID, I
- 5:12Speaker 4: was in the house like almost everyone else probably, and
- 5:15Speaker 4: I was extremely bored, and I said, it crossed my mind.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I love kids. I loved teaching school. When I retire
- 5:21Speaker 4: in a few years, I'm gonna go back to teaching school, hopefully.
- 5:25Speaker 4: So I was bored. I opened a Google drive. I
- 5:29Speaker 4: thought about writing a children's book, and again that was
- 5:31Speaker 4: very random fault. I actually wrote the title and never
- 5:34Speaker 4: picked it up again.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Christmas in the Mountain State.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Yeah, Christmas in the Mountain Stead. I wrote that and
- 5:39Speaker 4: never opened again. And so we fast forward a little
- 5:44Speaker 4: bit and my mother was sick. We were taking care
- 5:46Speaker 4: of her with took care of my father as well.
- 5:48Speaker 4: My mom passed away last year around October, and to
- 5:52Speaker 4: be honest, the book was written in grief. She loved Christmas,
- 5:55Speaker 4: my father loved Christmas. I love Christmas, and most of
- 5:58Speaker 4: my brothers and sisters. It's just something that was really
- 6:00Speaker 4: still to us. We did not have much, but we
- 6:02Speaker 4: had always decorated. The house was decorated with so many things,
- 6:07Speaker 4: and it really impacted me. But I didn't really know
- 6:10Speaker 4: what to do after my mom passed, and every time
- 6:13Speaker 4: I started missing her or I would be thinking about home,
- 6:17Speaker 4: I would just pick up the book. There's a lot
- 6:19Speaker 4: of revisions, a lot of different takes, i'll say of
- 6:24Speaker 4: this book, of different versions. But it was really wrote
- 6:28Speaker 4: in grief. But I also I love West Virginia. It's
- 6:31Speaker 4: it's a place that uh that one once you're here,
- 6:34Speaker 4: it's it's it's in your blood. So I always brag
- 6:39Speaker 4: on West Virginia even in d C. I talk about
- 6:43Speaker 4: West Virgina all the time. In my apartment, people would
- 6:45Speaker 4: walk in and they say, oh my god, it's like
- 6:47Speaker 4: a shrine of West Virginia in this.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Apartment in d C.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I had triply everywhere I didn't notice it, but
- 6:52Speaker 4: everywhere you turn there's like a the map or something
- 6:56Speaker 4: about the state.
- 6:57Speaker 7: Uh.
- 6:58Speaker 4: So I really wrote this, as I say, a love
- 7:01Speaker 4: letter to West Virginia, but also just a it's it's
- 7:04Speaker 4: dedicated to my parents, who really instilled the love of
- 7:08Speaker 4: Christmas in us.
- 7:09Speaker 2: What's the premise of the book, I mean, take us
- 7:12Speaker 2: through it.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Yeah, so essentially it's about a red cardinal named Jay.
- 7:16Speaker 4: So obviously the red cardinal, our state bird. I chose
- 7:19Speaker 4: a red cardinal for that reason. But also I didn't
- 7:22Speaker 4: think about this but at the time, but red cardinals
- 7:25Speaker 4: often mean are often the symbol. They symbolize your past
- 7:30Speaker 4: loved ones coming to you. When you see a Cardinals,
- 7:34Speaker 4: it's your it's your past loved ones saying I'm okay.
- 7:37Speaker 4: And I actually had a couple of people come up
- 7:39Speaker 4: to me at my stand this weekend and I had
- 7:41Speaker 4: had an email and two emails talking about how this
- 7:44Speaker 4: book reminded them of their past loved ones because of
- 7:47Speaker 4: the red cardinal. I chose it because of the state bird.
- 7:50Speaker 4: But anyway, it's his name's Jay. That was my father's nickname.
- 7:55Speaker 4: And he travels throughout West Virginia showcasing, showcasing everything we
- 7:59Speaker 4: have to all for all those cool places. I mean
- 8:02Speaker 4: obviously the Capital, Capital Market, Bluefield that's now designated as
- 8:06Speaker 4: a Christmas City, Snowshoe, the Greenbrier, WU. There's a lot
- 8:13Speaker 4: of symbols in there, so it truly just gives a
- 8:15Speaker 4: good snapshot of what West Virginia has to offer and
- 8:17Speaker 4: all the cool things we have.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Please tell me there's something about Logan County in there.
- 8:21Speaker 8: Yeah, I.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Was gonna wait until you it's not Morrisons, but it's
- 8:27Speaker 4: it's a Chief Logan State Park, is okay? Archways in there.
- 8:30Speaker 2: The most visited daytime park in West Virginia.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Yes, I was telling someone the other day I was
- 8:37Speaker 4: looking at the illustration. I always loved the lights, but
- 8:40Speaker 4: I didn't appreciate the lights until after I left and
- 8:43Speaker 4: came back home and I drove through the park. I'm like,
- 8:45Speaker 4: this is this is something, this is really really cool
- 8:49Speaker 4: and something we should be proud of. But Chief Logan
- 8:51Speaker 4: is in the Okay.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I want to make sure we had some love for
- 8:53Speaker 2: the Home County in there.
- 8:55Speaker 4: But the jay goes throughout the state. Obviously I couldn't
- 8:58Speaker 4: pick every place, but uh, there's in this book. Because
- 9:02Speaker 4: it's dedicated to my parents. I chose a lot of
- 9:04Speaker 4: things that were special to me, and that was Chief
- 9:07Speaker 4: Logan I spent. We didn't get to go on vacations
- 9:10Speaker 4: growing up. My aunt and uncle would take us to
- 9:12Speaker 4: Lake Stevens in Raleigh and that was our vacation for
- 9:15Speaker 4: the year. So Lake Stevens is in there. My grandfather.
- 9:21Speaker 4: It talks about coal miners. I never met my grandfather.
- 9:24Speaker 4: My mom was one of nineteen kids and she had
- 9:27Speaker 4: us late in life. My brother and I.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Were one of nineteen kids, one of nineteen.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Yeah, her mother died like when she was forty four,
- 9:35Speaker 4: and it's it's crazy. I know it's a crazy story.
- 9:39Speaker 4: I have sixty seven first cousins, if that tells you anything.
- 9:42Speaker 4: But we really we we when we were our family,
- 9:49Speaker 4: which is huge, so our grand most of a lot
- 9:52Speaker 4: of us didn't meet the young ones. Did not meet
- 9:55Speaker 4: my grand grandfather because my mother was forty when she
- 9:58Speaker 4: had my brother and I, so I never met my grandfather.
- 10:01Speaker 4: But he's We do a page about coal miners and
- 10:04Speaker 4: we used his picture. So there's a lot of things
- 10:07Speaker 4: that's really special. My nieces and nephews' names are on
- 10:11Speaker 4: a Santa Claus list. So things that that would make
- 10:14Speaker 4: my mom smile, my dad I put in the book
- 10:16Speaker 4: that most people wouldn't know.

- 16:11Speaker 6: So he's got a d C played on. I wonder
- 16:14Speaker 6: who that was. Yeah, it has taxation without representation.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I didn't know that I did, I don't know.
- 16:20Speaker 6: I didn't see that. Well that's what the that's what
- 16:22Speaker 6: the all those plates say.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Yeah, oh okay, yeah you're right about that.
- 16:26Speaker 6: Yeah, they want two senators.
- 16:28Speaker 2: And so how so how's your book doing?
- 16:30Speaker 6: I sold them all?
- 16:32Speaker 2: So there are no copies right now? Mm no, no,
- 16:38Speaker 2: but we have more common right, two hundred more okay?
- 16:41Speaker 2: And yeah when will those be in? Approximately?
- 16:43Speaker 6: I say a couple of weeks.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Okay, we're gonna give a time for Christmas.
- 16:46Speaker 6: You know, yeah, they'll be first place, shooting by Miss
- 16:52Speaker 6: Taylor Books. Now they're on Amazon, but I want to
- 16:56Speaker 6: caution you on something. Okay, Amazon, they got a book
- 17:03Speaker 6: they're selling for thirty five dollars. I think it's all
- 17:06Speaker 6: black and white. Okay, I'm not sure because we're having
- 17:11Speaker 6: terrible communicating with them, because you're gonna have to pay
- 17:17Speaker 6: more if you want my copy, which is color, with's
- 17:22Speaker 6: selling here for thirty I'm losing money on it. But
- 17:29Speaker 6: they'll have four different copies of the book.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Okay. Well, and I'll tell you the pictures are a
- 17:34Speaker 2: big part of the book.
- 17:35Speaker 6: I mean I think they are.
- 17:36Speaker 2: I mean, if you ever went to your restaurant downtown,
- 17:39Speaker 2: I mean, that's one of the things that people were
- 17:41Speaker 2: always drawn to, was the all the pictures you had
- 17:43Speaker 2: hanging on the wall. Many some of those are also
- 17:45Speaker 2: in the book, with others that I had never seen before.
- 17:48Speaker 6: If you buy it off Amazon, I pay the money
- 17:53Speaker 6: and get the best copy and I don't make any
- 17:58Speaker 6: more money. I mean I don't make any more money
- 18:02Speaker 6: on Alizon Amazon. You know it's laughable. I am embarrath
- 18:07Speaker 6: today how little it is.
- 18:09Speaker 2: But it's also a necessity though, if you want to
- 18:11Speaker 2: sell both.
- 18:12Speaker 6: If you want to sell books, yeah, sure, all right.
- 18:15Speaker 2: So since you were on last week, Danny tragedy in
- 18:19Speaker 2: DC involving the two National Guard members from West Virginia.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Sarah Berkstrom of course died from her injuries, Andrew Wolf
- 18:26Speaker 2: still fighting for his life. Still any thoughts from you
- 18:29Speaker 2: on that other than it was a tragedy, We know that,
- 18:31Speaker 2: but any thoughts from you.
- 18:33Speaker 6: Twenty year old girl. I just can't imagine. I've got
- 18:38Speaker 6: a nineteen year old son. I've got one that's getting
- 18:42Speaker 6: ready to turn eighteen. And of course Jared at the
- 18:47Speaker 6: nineteen year old, he's at vm I, he's military. She's
- 18:53Speaker 6: just she could have been my daughter, could have been
- 18:56Speaker 6: your daughter.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Well, and then listening to the people talk about her.
- 19:01Speaker 2: There's been candidlight visuals held in her native Webster County,
- 19:04Speaker 2: but she lived in Nicholas County. That's where she was working.
- 19:07Speaker 2: And so we've interviewed different people. I know Jeff actually
- 19:11Speaker 2: went to the one of the Candidit visuals and to
- 19:13Speaker 2: talk to some people. People always talk, at least for
- 19:17Speaker 2: the most part, warmly about people when they pass, but
- 19:20Speaker 2: you can also tell when it's genuine and when it's not.
- 19:23Speaker 2: And hearing the interviews on the morning news as I
- 19:25Speaker 2: was driving in this morning, Danny, the people that Jeff
- 19:28Speaker 2: had talked to, it seems like that this girl was very,
- 19:33Speaker 2: very popular, very well liked. She was a prom the
- 19:37Speaker 2: queen of the prom and things of that nature. There
- 19:41Speaker 2: was some video I saw from one of the TV
- 19:43Speaker 2: stations this morning over the weekend when she apparently had
- 19:47Speaker 2: developed a friendship with a young like a as much
- 19:52Speaker 2: of a friendship as you can develop with a two
- 19:53Speaker 2: year old, you know. And the mother was speaking at
- 19:57Speaker 2: the visual, the mother of the two year old, and say,
- 19:59Speaker 2: you know, how do you how do you explain to
- 20:02Speaker 2: a two year old that your friend's not coming back?
- 20:05Speaker 2: It's real life stuff.
- 20:06Speaker 6: Man. I don't know. I don't know about the National
- 20:13Speaker 6: Guard being these cities. I just don't know. The mayors
- 20:17Speaker 6: don't want them. Yeah, if that might be enough for me.
- 20:26Speaker 6: I know, the Marines don't belong there, that's not what
- 20:29Speaker 6: their mission is.
- 20:32Speaker 2: It is worth noting know that these two people volunteered
- 20:35Speaker 2: to go there because they were sent there and then
- 20:38Speaker 2: and now it's basically a volunteer thing. But they volunteered
- 20:40Speaker 2: to go there, and that doesn't make it any less tragic.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I'm not saying I know, but I am saying that
- 20:44Speaker 2: that they did volunteer to go there.
- 20:46Speaker 6: I understand that, but the mission.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Now I get on. You and I are on the
- 20:50Speaker 2: same page.
- 20:51Speaker 6: You've got the president and the mayor at odds over this.
- 20:56Speaker 2: So if this were to have happened in Charleston, all right,
- 20:58Speaker 2: when you were mayor, and let's say that Charleston had
- 21:01Speaker 2: the horrific crime rates and things that DC and some
- 21:04Speaker 2: of these other cities have had. If the President of
- 21:07Speaker 2: the United States contacted Mayor Danny Jones and said we're
- 21:11Speaker 2: sending National Guard troops in, what would you have done them?
- 21:17Speaker 6: I'm a different kind of mayor. I was just different
- 21:21Speaker 6: on that. I say, if if our crime is that
- 21:24Speaker 6: bad and you're ready to let us have the resources
- 21:30Speaker 6: of the national Guard, national Guard can't arrest anybody, I'd
- 21:36Speaker 6: say send them. But now we're dealing with mayor that
- 21:39Speaker 6: don't want them. Right, And even though Mayor Bowser is
- 21:47Speaker 6: that what is that or not, she's had to admit
- 21:49Speaker 6: that the crime's gone down since they've been there.
- 21:52Speaker 2: I was very interested in watching one of the press conferences,
- 21:55Speaker 2: and it may have been Thanksgiving morning that I saw it.
- 22:00Speaker 2: And she was listening to the officials from the Trump
- 22:05Speaker 2: UH organization or the judge of Japiro and and Cash
- 22:10Speaker 2: Mattel was there, and just the expression on her face
- 22:14Speaker 2: when she was saying, you know, when the judge was saying, well,
- 22:18Speaker 2: you know, crime is out of control and you know,
- 22:21Speaker 2: uh and uh and we had to do something, and
- 22:23Speaker 2: that that's your city. I mean, I'm not saying that
- 22:25Speaker 2: she's right or wrong, but I'm saying that's that's your city.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I mean, if you were mayor, you probably wouldn't take
- 22:30Speaker 2: too kindly of you know.
- 22:31Speaker 6: Now I might step up and say something.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I know you would.
- 22:36Speaker 5: Up.
- 22:38Speaker 6: Now you've got him, like the mayor of Chicago. I mean,
- 22:41Speaker 6: he's he's incompetent. Johnson is his name. I believe Brandon
- 22:49Speaker 6: somebody he's a mayor of ok He's completely incompetent and
- 22:56Speaker 6: he Uh. There's one part of Chicago there's bad. Most
- 23:02Speaker 6: of Chicago is really neat.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Well, I mean, isn't that true of any city? I Mean,
- 23:06Speaker 2: for the.
- 23:07Speaker 6: Most part, Inglewood is bad. It's just California. No in
- 23:11Speaker 6: they don't know Chicago. It's a part of Chicago, and
- 23:16Speaker 6: it's you know, it's just bad. And there are people
- 23:23Speaker 6: that live there and I've seen this on YouTube where
- 23:28Speaker 6: they have these these natives of people that live in
- 23:36Speaker 6: Inglewood are really getting on the mayor. They want the
- 23:40Speaker 6: National Guard. He doesn't want it. Politically, they don't want it.
- 23:46Speaker 6: Pritzker and and people talk about putting Pritchzecker in the
- 23:52Speaker 6: White House. Do you know how broke Illinois is? You
- 23:56Speaker 6: have any idea? They have the worst. But between them
- 24:00Speaker 6: and New Jersey, they have the worst pension deficit of
- 24:05Speaker 6: any state. Of their pensions for government workers, they're the
- 24:11Speaker 6: worst there or New Jersey one of the two, it'd
- 24:14Speaker 6: be a tough it'd be a tough competition.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Let me ask you, Danny, your opinion of the way
- 24:20Speaker 2: the President is handling the death of the National Guard folks.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Of course, he invited the families of both to come.
- 24:27Speaker 2: There were some talk that he said he would consider
- 24:29Speaker 2: going to the funeral. I don't. I don't think that's
- 24:33Speaker 2: going to happen. But he has said he would invite
- 24:34Speaker 2: the families of both of the one that was killed
- 24:38Speaker 2: and one that distilling. He would invite the families. They
- 24:40Speaker 2: are not sure whether they would go or not, but
- 24:42Speaker 2: he said he would invite them. But there's been many
- 24:45Speaker 2: people that have said the way he has handled this
- 24:48Speaker 2: is doing what Trump does, which is making it all
- 24:51Speaker 2: about himself.
- 24:52Speaker 6: Well that's not unusual.
- 24:54Speaker 2: I mean, Donald, in my opinion, Donald Trump has not
- 24:58Speaker 2: changed one bit from Donald Trump's citizen to Donald Trump politician.
- 25:01Speaker 2: I mean, this was who Donald Trump was long before
- 25:04Speaker 2: he ever came down that escalator.
- 25:06Speaker 6: Yeah, he wants to, and he does want to make
- 25:10Speaker 6: it about himself, but you have to think, what if
- 25:14Speaker 6: it was President Obama or President Biden, they might do
- 25:18Speaker 6: the very same thing.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I don't and that's not me being part of it.
- 25:26Speaker 6: Let's forget Biden. Okay, how about how about President Obama.
- 25:30Speaker 6: Do you think they were to invite him to the
- 25:31Speaker 6: White House?
- 25:32Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, oh, I think I think he probably would,
- 25:34Speaker 2: and I think Reagan would have too. But I'm saying
- 25:37Speaker 2: the way the statements that they've made and the thing
- 25:42Speaker 2: I mean, I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the
- 25:45Speaker 2: things that Donald Trump says, you know, because he's Donald Trump,
- 25:50Speaker 2: and that's what he says, but just some of the
- 25:51Speaker 2: things what he said about Pritzker, you know, calling Tim
- 25:56Speaker 2: Walls the R word that you can't say anymore, you know, Yeah,
- 26:01Speaker 2: I can't see Obama or Reagan doing something like that.
- 26:05Speaker 6: Well we have. He has normalized vulgarity public public figures.
- 26:15Speaker 6: Politicians are now using it. And Nancy Mays used it
- 26:20Speaker 6: the other night on on a few weeks ago on
- 26:24Speaker 6: on Bill Maher. I guess I realize that's a different format.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that's well, but I mean, but.
- 26:30Speaker 6: She's running for governor South Carolina. I'm not sure i'd
- 26:34Speaker 6: have said that choose the up bomb. I mean, I'm
- 26:37Speaker 6: not sure it's a good idea.
- 26:39Speaker 2: What and what we're learning now about the person that
- 26:42Speaker 2: that committed this act, he appears to have been, you know, radicalized.
- 26:48Speaker 2: They said he's got major issues. You know, his work
- 26:51Speaker 2: permits all expired. Depression, that word has been thrown out there.
- 26:56Speaker 2: He would disappear for days at a time and come back,
- 27:00Speaker 2: and you know, and then of course we're all playing
- 27:02Speaker 2: the blame game right now. You know, the pointing, well
- 27:04Speaker 2: it was it's because of Biden that he was here.
- 27:07Speaker 2: But but he was there, you know, the Trump administration
- 27:11Speaker 2: had some involvement in this, and on the TV talk
- 27:13Speaker 2: shows over the weekend. I eventually just had to turn
- 27:16Speaker 2: it off yesterday morning because it was just one side,
- 27:19Speaker 2: you know, you know, the what about ism and so
- 27:21Speaker 2: it's this person's fault, it's that person's fault. Whatever. Bottom
- 27:24Speaker 2: line is two people too, West Virginians lost their lives.
- 27:29Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, and.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Well I'm sorry, I'm sorry. One person lost their lives,
- 27:36Speaker 2: so they defy I'm sorry.
- 27:38Speaker 6: Yeah, one person. Yeah, but I there's so much noise
- 27:49Speaker 6: out there, you know that you you uh, it's hard
- 27:55Speaker 6: to get through to it, and people talk over each other.
- 28:03Speaker 6: Did you watch this week yesterday?
- 28:06Speaker 2: Yes?
- 28:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I miss Sarah is Core. Yeah. I'm a fan.
- 28:12Speaker 6: I'm a fan of serious. I'm a big fan, and
- 28:14Speaker 6: I like I like Chris Christie.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I'm a fan of Donna Brazil. I don't agree with
- 28:18Speaker 2: her ninety thing, but I loved it. She's entertaining.
- 28:22Speaker 6: I told you about meeting her in the Atlanta She
- 28:25Speaker 6: is wonderful and I read her book. You know, she's
- 28:30Speaker 6: a daddish girl. She likes Scotch, you know, and she
- 28:36Speaker 6: she's she's a wonderful person. If you ever meet her
- 28:40Speaker 6: in public, walk up and say elo to her, okay,
- 28:43Speaker 6: and and she is, h were you in the Were
- 28:47Speaker 6: you in the military. I said, yes, ma'am, I was
- 28:52Speaker 6: in the Marine Corps and I was went to Vietnam.
- 28:54Speaker 6: She said, well, thank you for your service. And I said,
- 28:58Speaker 6: I'm also the mayor of Charleston, w Virginia. Well kind
- 29:02Speaker 6: of wide. I can't remember what she said, but it
- 29:05Speaker 6: was they's not a nicer berth out there.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Kind of give us off that vibe. If I had
- 29:10Speaker 2: to guess, you know, yeah, I like her.
- 29:12Speaker 6: Now. I like Chris Christy, He's fun to listen to.
- 29:17Speaker 2: I like I like Christy and Prince previous feels like
- 29:19Speaker 2: the kind of guide that probably got picked on a
- 29:21Speaker 2: lot in school, that you distanced yourself from at a party.
- 29:23Speaker 6: Just to say, I know, I don't know.
- 29:26Speaker 2: All right, Danny, we gotta leave it there. I gotta

- 33:59Speaker 2: of fa Keryl is here to talk high school transfers
- 34:02Speaker 2: and speaking of high school, the championships of course sent
- 34:05Speaker 2: for this Friday and Saturday in Charles and Wayne Ryan
- 34:07Speaker 2: from the SSA C will stop by the mouth of
- 34:09Speaker 2: hear football season mercifully came to an end on Saturday
- 34:12Speaker 2: at the hands of Texas tach. We're going to talk
- 34:14Speaker 2: to Greg Carey about that and of course open line
- 34:16Speaker 2: West Virginia Metro News Midday with thirteen News and Tonight
- 34:19Speaker 2: Live anchor Amanda Baron and Me coming up at noon
- 34:20Speaker 2: today powered by s Lane good Law. Welcome into the show.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Now in for the mayor this week, it is Matt Sutton,
- 34:26Speaker 2: the chief of staff. Ain't doing man, That's a heck
- 34:28Speaker 2: of a read day.
- 34:29Speaker 6: Man, that was.
- 34:30Speaker 11: That was impressive. I gotta be honest with you. That
- 34:31Speaker 11: was he took a minute and a half and just
- 34:33Speaker 11: went straight into it. I never really saw you take
- 34:35Speaker 11: a breath. So every now and then you get to
- 34:37Speaker 11: see you do radio work right.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Every now and there, right every now and hope I
- 34:42Speaker 2: passed the audition. Now that's going good. I think you're right.
- 34:45Speaker 2: With the warm wedge.
- 34:46Speaker 11: I don't know why that term keeps popping up, but
- 34:48Speaker 11: when the text I got this morning, that's what they.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Called it as well. They were the warm wedge, and
- 34:51Speaker 2: it's what There's two things meteorologists will tell you. It's
- 34:56Speaker 2: this warm wedge that sets up in the Canaw Valley
- 34:58Speaker 2: that keeps a lot of us from getting the big
- 35:01Speaker 2: snows okay, and which is fine with me because I
- 35:03Speaker 2: detested okay.
- 35:05Speaker 6: Uh.
- 35:05Speaker 2: But people also say it's the uh uh, it's the
- 35:08Speaker 2: ghost of carbide, you know, that keeps the man with
- 35:11Speaker 2: their away. I don't know what it is, but but look,
- 35:13Speaker 2: it is going to be slick in some areas tomorrow,
- 35:16Speaker 2: so use caution because we're the meteorologist. Tell us we're
- 35:19Speaker 2: gonna have uh so you're gonna of colder temperatures. We're
- 35:22Speaker 2: gonna have cold rain and there's a possibility that it
- 35:25Speaker 2: could turn in and it is definitely going to snow tomorrow,
- 35:28Speaker 2: but it looks like it's going to be too warm
- 35:30Speaker 2: to stick. Famous last words and the famous last words.
- 35:32Speaker 2: But you guys in the city, you'll be ready for
- 35:34Speaker 2: it regardless.
- 35:35Speaker 11: We're putting the we're putting the spreaders on right now.
- 35:37Speaker 11: So that's the that's what's going on today. We won't
- 35:39Speaker 11: be doing leaf pick up today and tomorrow just because
- 35:42Speaker 11: we're getting the trucks ready for the snow.
- 35:45Speaker 2: You know, same same weather report you got.
- 35:47Speaker 11: But you know, I don't think the last note we
- 35:50Speaker 11: got a couple of weeks ago what it's supposed to
- 35:51Speaker 11: be as bad. So you know, we just we prepare
- 35:53Speaker 11: for the worst and hope for the best. Well, and
- 35:55Speaker 11: it's here to be safe.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Today is the first day of December. It's meteorological winter,
- 35:59Speaker 2: is what they tell Let's because the first day of
- 36:01Speaker 2: winter isn't officially till a few weeks from now, but
- 36:03Speaker 2: from the meteorologist, today is the first day of winter.
- 36:05Speaker 2: So okay, there you go. I learned I learned that
- 36:09Speaker 2: by watching Brian Hughes so there you go. Well we'll
- 36:12Speaker 2: fact check it.
- 36:14Speaker 8: All right.
- 36:15Speaker 2: So do you have a good Thanksgiving?
- 36:16Speaker 11: I had a great Thanksgiving, had family in town, so
- 36:19Speaker 11: it was a nice a nice Thursday, and then Friday
- 36:23Speaker 11: and Saturday, just hanging out with all my close friends
- 36:27Speaker 11: in downtown Charleston.
- 36:28Speaker 2: I was gonna say, yeah, I'm gonna talk about Small
- 36:30Speaker 2: Business Saturday a little bit because I happen to be
- 36:33Speaker 2: in Charleston, a rare Dave Allan appearance in Charleston on
- 36:37Speaker 2: the weekends. But but but now I was. I was
- 36:39Speaker 2: in Charleston on on Saturday, and I had to had
- 36:42Speaker 2: to go harassed Tony to Taylor a little bit, you know.
- 36:45Speaker 2: I mean, and I know the other stores did really
- 36:47Speaker 2: well too. At one point around eleven o'clock, you couldn't
- 36:51Speaker 2: have not gotten another person at Tony's shop. Yeah, I mean,
- 36:54Speaker 2: that's how many. That's how many people were there. And
- 36:56Speaker 2: uh and I did. I went back home to Tay's
- 36:59Speaker 2: Valley and went to an event at Valley Park in
- 37:01Speaker 2: an area thirty four. Looks like Small Business Saturday was
- 37:05Speaker 2: a pretty pretty big success.
- 37:07Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, we I've heard only great things, I think,
- 37:09Speaker 11: you know, and I'll give Tony the credit he deserves.
- 37:12Speaker 11: You know, Tony works hard into marketing that day, and
- 37:15Speaker 11: that he was the first.
- 37:16Speaker 2: He'll tell you, yeah, because Tony loves to talk about him.
- 37:18Speaker 6: So I know.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Tony was the first merchant in Charleston to take part
- 37:24Speaker 2: years and years ago.
- 37:25Speaker 11: Yeah, but I think, I mean, even even leading up
- 37:27Speaker 11: to it, I think a lot has to do. There's
- 37:29Speaker 11: a you know you, I heard you and Mary Jones
- 37:31Speaker 11: talking about a sort of the political side of thing
- 37:33Speaker 11: of all the noise out there were The same thing's
- 37:34Speaker 11: true with with shopping and retail right now.
- 37:36Speaker 2: There's a lot of noise to get through.
- 37:37Speaker 11: There's every other ad on Facebook is by this hoodie,
- 37:40Speaker 11: buy this white shirt. By that I mean, so to
- 37:42Speaker 11: be able for a small business to get through right
- 37:44Speaker 11: now is very difficult to do. And we have a
- 37:46Speaker 11: lot of really good ones who know how to market
- 37:47Speaker 11: themselves and take advantage of that. And I think that
- 37:50Speaker 11: that showed this weekend as they and they had they
- 37:52Speaker 11: had successful days. It's great to hear the same thing
- 37:54Speaker 11: out in the valley because you know what we want
- 37:57Speaker 11: and we tall we say this all the time. If
- 37:59Speaker 11: you're in if you're in another city, if you want
- 38:01Speaker 11: to go from one part of Columbus to the other.
- 38:02Speaker 11: That's basically one from Charleston to Barbersville, right, I mean,
- 38:05Speaker 11: so we want people up and down the I sixty
- 38:07Speaker 11: four corrid or going to all these businesses because they
- 38:09Speaker 11: make a day out of it, and that's that's beneficial
- 38:11Speaker 11: to everybody.
- 38:11Speaker 2: So it's great to hear it was going. It was
- 38:12Speaker 2: going well out there as well. But Dave Island Show
- 38:15Speaker 2: and five Any Lives brought to you part by the

- 38:38Speaker 2: See dealer for details. Now, the population of Charleston's about
- 38:41Speaker 2: to grow this week because we get the championships coming
- 38:45Speaker 2: to town, the football Championships Friday and Saturday. Yeah, I'm
- 38:47Speaker 2: really excited about it.
- 38:48Speaker 11: I think it's it looks like it's gonna We're gonna
- 38:50Speaker 11: get good football weather. And I know the I talked
- 38:53Speaker 11: to Timbrady over the weekend. I know they're prepared and
- 38:55Speaker 11: ready and ready for everybody coming to town.
- 38:58Speaker 2: And I think it was it was good.
- 38:59Speaker 11: There were a couple It's not really my area of expertise,
- 39:02Speaker 11: but there are a couple of surprises in terms of
- 39:04Speaker 11: who's coming down.
- 39:05Speaker 2: So I think that's good.
- 39:05Speaker 11: It's always fun, and I think they do a really
- 39:08Speaker 11: good job or I know they do a really good
- 39:09Speaker 11: job over there taking care of the kids and their
- 39:12Speaker 11: families when they come to town. So really excited about it.
- 39:15Speaker 11: We've loved having the football championships. We loved having cheer championships.
- 39:18Speaker 11: We had volleyball, then cheer and then heading into football,
- 39:21Speaker 11: which has been a great few weeks for state high
- 39:23Speaker 11: school championships in Charleston with football sort of being the
- 39:28Speaker 11: end of it for this season at least. And we're
- 39:30Speaker 11: really excited about it because it does bring a lot
- 39:32Speaker 11: of people into the city. It brings a lot of
- 39:33Speaker 11: people downtown. It also takes a lot of people. I know,
- 39:37Speaker 11: the biggest days of the year last year over the
- 39:39Speaker 11: ballpark for like the night we're during the state high
- 39:41Speaker 11: school FOOTBA championship, so I know they're excited about.
- 39:43Speaker 2: It well, and we always want to see the local
- 39:45Speaker 2: teams in it, you know, but there's something to be
- 39:48Speaker 2: said too from the ones that are coming from far
- 39:50Speaker 2: away that may not normally, normally wouldn't be coming from
- 39:56Speaker 2: the Eastern Panhandle or the Morgantown area or whatever, it
- 39:59Speaker 2: may not be coming to Charleston and to be able
- 40:01Speaker 2: to go down and see the trees downtown or go
- 40:04Speaker 2: to uh to the Yeah, we like like tonight when
- 40:07Speaker 2: we won the high school championships.
- 40:09Speaker 11: No matter what it is, you look at it and again,
- 40:11Speaker 11: whatever teams come come, congratulations to them. But from the
- 40:13Speaker 11: city's perspective, and I know the cv B, we like
- 40:15Speaker 11: a good mix, you know, having a couple of local
- 40:17Speaker 11: teams we know will be big ticket sales days and
- 40:20Speaker 11: people will be there and you'll see a lot of fans,
- 40:22Speaker 11: and then having you know, those who come in to
- 40:23Speaker 11: travel to Charleston who aren't usually here, staying in hotels
- 40:26Speaker 11: and visiting for the first time. We like to have
- 40:28Speaker 11: that mix, so and I think that's always a good
- 40:31Speaker 11: balance because you really want a it's fun when the
- 40:34Speaker 11: local teams are in it because we all know what
- 40:35Speaker 11: your cheer for them. But at the same time, we
- 40:37Speaker 11: do like people to experience Charleston and stay in our
- 40:39Speaker 11: hotel rooms, eat our restaurants.
- 40:40Speaker 2: And the ones that and let's face it, I mean,
- 40:43Speaker 2: the ones that are coming from far away are more
- 40:45Speaker 2: than likely not going to just come for their game
- 40:48Speaker 2: and leave. I mean, at least if they don't spend
- 40:49Speaker 2: the night, they are going to grab some dinner. They
- 40:53Speaker 2: are going to and we encourage all of those people
- 40:55Speaker 2: to go to light the night, to go downtown and
- 40:57Speaker 2: see what you got going on, shop some of these
- 40:58Speaker 2: local businesses while you're here as one.
- 41:00Speaker 11: Absolutely I mean and again, like I said, that's the
- 41:02Speaker 11: key is we want people to come to town. We
- 41:03Speaker 11: want them to stay as long as they want to stay.
- 41:06Speaker 11: And not only that, but what we like when we
- 41:09Speaker 11: get these when we get these championships, is people do
- 41:11Speaker 11: get to see what's going on. And maybe it is
- 41:13Speaker 11: a couple hours away. I know Morgan Town's in it,
- 41:15Speaker 11: right so there I'll use them an example. They are
- 41:17Speaker 11: a couple hours away, two two and a half hours away,
- 41:19Speaker 11: depending on how you like to drive it.
- 41:21Speaker 2: But if they have a good time in Charleston.
- 41:22Speaker 11: That's an easy you know, weekend, bring the kids back down,
- 41:25Speaker 11: go go downtown if you don't have time, go over
- 41:27Speaker 11: the ballpark, shop local, do all that kind of stuff.
- 41:30Speaker 2: And that's an easy trip if people get to experience
- 41:31Speaker 2: Charleston once.
- 41:32Speaker 11: The one thing we know about it is is we
- 41:33Speaker 11: can get them to come back, which the hard part
- 41:35Speaker 11: is getting to come here first.
- 41:36Speaker 2: And you got their Mountain your basketball team, yep, that's
- 41:38Speaker 2: on Saturday as well. So they're playing Wake Forest. It's
- 41:41Speaker 2: Kyle Seeman Convention Center.
- 41:42Speaker 11: Yeap on Saturday. I think there are a handful of
- 41:44Speaker 11: tickets left. I certainly wouldn't wait till Saturday. I think
- 41:47Speaker 11: they opened some more tickets up, so I think there's
- 41:49Speaker 11: still a few tickets left for them.
- 41:50Speaker 2: I mean, that would be really cool if people would
- 41:52Speaker 2: could come down to see their local team and then
- 41:55Speaker 2: take in them out in their game. Why if you
- 41:56Speaker 2: talk about somebody, you know, a school that's maybe an
- 42:00Speaker 2: not from the Morgantown area, but somebody that's you know
- 42:02Speaker 2: coming in too, you know that may not get a
- 42:05Speaker 2: chance to see their team play, and the Mountaineers too.
- 42:07Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean I think it's again, it's in and
- 42:10Speaker 11: the Marior says, at all the time, it's tons of
- 42:11Speaker 11: things to see and do, and that's what we look
- 42:13Speaker 11: for in Charleston. So having them all together works out
- 42:16Speaker 11: really well. You know a lot of times and you
- 42:18Speaker 11: and I talked about this, and I know you've talked
- 42:19Speaker 11: about it with Tim. People always say, well this you know,
- 42:22Speaker 11: this day is my event. No, we want multiple events,
- 42:25Speaker 11: things going on at the same time so we can
- 42:27Speaker 11: make an entire experience for people. That's really what sets
- 42:30Speaker 11: us apart when people look at destinations to travel is
- 42:34Speaker 11: having tons of things to see and do, and that's
- 42:36Speaker 11: what we're building to and this weekend will be a
- 42:37Speaker 11: perfect example of that.
- 42:38Speaker 2: All right, I think we've got a call for you,
- 42:39Speaker 2: mister Sutton. You're the man, so seventy go ahead, you're
- 42:42Speaker 2: on the air, A circle ahead, Yeah, yeah, you're on here,
- 42:47Speaker 2: go ahead.
- 42:48Speaker 5: Okay.
- 42:50Speaker 8: God of concern about the all ramp, but Wes Moore
- 42:53Speaker 8: and also Interstate seventy seventy nine, Wes more than they're
- 42:57Speaker 8: going into Odell. It needs that. There's some awful bumps.
- 43:02Speaker 8: There has been need paid for a long time. And
- 43:04Speaker 8: I talked to the council lady and she says she
- 43:07Speaker 8: can never get it on the agenda at the city
- 43:09Speaker 8: council meetings, and it's been there for a long time,
- 43:12Speaker 8: so in needs pay paved or passed from the Odell
- 43:17Speaker 8: ramp all from last morning to Lesia Street. I just
- 43:20Speaker 8: wonder if you could put that on your menu you.
- 43:21Speaker 8: I appreciate it.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Yep, I appreciate that.
- 43:23Speaker 11: We'll mark it down on our notes and make sure
- 43:26Speaker 11: we have it. Have our engineers go take a good
- 43:28Speaker 11: look at appreciate the information.

- 47:15Speaker 11: six o'clock.
- 47:16Speaker 2: So yeah, it's really exciting. It's a really fun day
- 47:18Speaker 2: in town.
- 47:19Speaker 11: And you know a lot I know, there are a
- 47:21Speaker 11: lot of great Christmas parades that go on throughout the
- 47:23Speaker 11: entire community, and you know, catch as many as you can.
- 47:26Speaker 2: But we really are excited about the parade.
- 47:28Speaker 11: This year, we were at about one hundred and twenty
- 47:30Speaker 11: five entries, though I think we're a little bit above
- 47:32Speaker 11: that right now.
- 47:33Speaker 2: So it's going to be really excited.
- 47:34Speaker 11: We've got a lot of youth groups, a lot of
- 47:37Speaker 11: kid groups in it this year, and that's what makes
- 47:38Speaker 11: it really fun is when the kids get to go
- 47:40Speaker 11: out and have a good time. So we'll start, well,
- 47:43Speaker 11: the prep's already begun we'll start weather monitoring here soon
- 47:46Speaker 11: and make sure everything's going to be okay. But no,
- 47:48Speaker 11: it's a really fun time I think, you know, having
- 47:50Speaker 11: kicked off the holiday season this weekend with Holly Jolly
- 47:53Speaker 11: Brawley and everything downtown Friday and Saturday night, everything going
- 47:56Speaker 11: over to the ballpark and then the Christmas Parade. I
- 47:59Speaker 11: do want to mention I saw some comments on Facebook.
- 48:01Speaker 11: The Christmas trees and the light show and everything stay
- 48:04Speaker 11: in Slack Plaza and downtown Charleston throughout the entire holiday season,
- 48:08Speaker 11: so I know some folks I saw were a little disappointed
- 48:11Speaker 11: that only lasted two days.
- 48:12Speaker 2: The kickoff event only last two days.
- 48:14Speaker 11: Yeah, trees stay up all all season and come down
- 48:17Speaker 11: right after the first of the year, so it is
- 48:19Speaker 11: something to come down to. It was a really great
- 48:21Speaker 11: time this weekend. A little bit cold, but that's okay.
- 48:23Speaker 11: It's Christmas time.
- 48:24Speaker 2: And how many trees do you have done there ally Broadley?
- 48:27Speaker 2: One sixty? No, that's not right somewhere in there, because
- 48:30Speaker 2: I had the mayor on the midday show last week
- 48:32Speaker 2: and she talked about how it started with you know,
- 48:34Speaker 2: what was it like ten twelve something like that.
- 48:36Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, I think it's about about one hundred and
- 48:38Speaker 11: fifty or so now, and I mean.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Spread out throughout.
- 48:41Speaker 11: It's all all city Center, Slack Plaza, all up broadly
- 48:44Speaker 11: walk Away into Lee Triangle. It was just a really
- 48:46Speaker 11: great event, and it's what's really nice about it. And
- 48:49Speaker 11: I'm not, you know, nobody who ever accused me of
- 48:51Speaker 11: being a social butterfly. So this sounds a little bit weird,
- 48:53Speaker 11: but you know, when I went out Friday and walked around,
- 48:56Speaker 11: I didn't really even know anybody, and that was not
- 48:59Speaker 11: an that's just because it's a lot of different people
- 49:01Speaker 11: that come to town.
- 49:02Speaker 2: I know, it's a lot of people who used to
- 49:03Speaker 2: live here who come back and be with family, or
- 49:05Speaker 2: folks who come in from out of town to visit.
- 49:07Speaker 11: It's not your you know, usually you go to events
- 49:10Speaker 11: in town and you you know, Charleston's a small place, Westernian,
- 49:12Speaker 11: small place.
- 49:12Speaker 2: You know a lot of folks.
- 49:13Speaker 11: It was good to see a lot of people that
- 49:14Speaker 11: you don't normally see it events, and I think that
- 49:16Speaker 11: was great. I know, the mayor talk to a couple
- 49:17Speaker 11: of folks from out of town, one couple from Texas,
- 49:20Speaker 11: another another in from Michigan, another in from Ohio. My
- 49:24Speaker 11: cousin lives over in Lexton, Kentucky, but it's a holiday
- 49:26Speaker 11: tradition to them to go to Holly Jolly Bradley. So
- 49:29Speaker 11: it is nice to get to see a lot of
- 49:30Speaker 11: people who from out of the area come downtown because,
- 49:33Speaker 11: like we talked about before, it's just getting them here,
- 49:35Speaker 11: getting them into our shops.
- 49:36Speaker 2: The vendor market was great. So it was a lot
- 49:38Speaker 2: of fun.
- 49:39Speaker 11: That'll lead us into the Christmas Parade on December eleventh,
- 49:42Speaker 11: starting at seven pm, and really really excited. I just
- 49:46Speaker 11: got a text one hundred and sixty four Christmas teah. Yeah, yeah,
- 49:50Speaker 11: so's It really is a magical time in the city
- 49:54Speaker 11: and a lot of fun even for you know, somebody
- 49:56Speaker 11: like me who doesn't.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Head out a lot. It's just it's just a lot
- 49:59Speaker 2: of fun. I get to see everybody and get to
- 50:00Speaker 2: see all the kids, really excited. Show is awesome. Capital
- 50:03Speaker 2: Market is bumping on Saturday to My wife and I
- 50:05Speaker 2: were at Capital Market Saturday, had lunch over there and
- 50:08Speaker 2: it was it was it was bumping too. Texas. Who
- 50:11Speaker 2: controls the stop lights on the Iowa Street and West
- 50:14Speaker 2: Washington Street intersection, It's ridiculous waiting for three minutes at
- 50:17Speaker 2: a red light at five am, but no other traffic.
- 50:20Speaker 2: There has to be adjustable timing or sensor, so the
- 50:22Speaker 2: wait isn't so long. Say it again, all right, Iowa
- 50:26Speaker 2: Street and West Washington Street intersection. Okay, yeah, we'll take
- 50:29Speaker 2: a look at it.
- 50:29Speaker 11: I mean, state controls stop lights and the timing, but
- 50:31Speaker 11: we can make requests to him.
- 50:32Speaker 2: So yeah, we've got that. This is an issue that
- 50:34Speaker 2: happens in other cities too. A big shout out to
- 50:37Speaker 2: Mayor Edwards and Hurricane because he gets a lot of
- 50:39Speaker 2: complaints on social media about that and a lot of
- 50:42Speaker 2: times these things are they are controlled by the state,
- 50:45Speaker 2: whether it's a road project or whether it's stop lights, whatever,
- 50:48Speaker 2: but the city can make requests, can put a request
- 50:51Speaker 2: in on it. So you have counsel tonight. We have
- 50:53Speaker 2: counsel tonight, very light counsel tonight.
- 50:55Speaker 11: Oddly enough, we you know sometimes to where we have
- 50:58Speaker 11: the you know, the open meetings law. We got to
- 51:00Speaker 11: publish the agenda a certain time before, so when you
- 51:02Speaker 11: were off Thursday and Friday, we got to publish on Monday,
- 51:04Speaker 11: so we didn't get to get some bids in.
- 51:05Speaker 2: It's time to publish. So we've got one item on
- 51:07Speaker 2: the agenda.
- 51:08Speaker 11: We've been working with counsel Councilwoman Caitlyn Cook, Counselman Joe Jenkins,
- 51:13Speaker 11: Counselman Chad Robinson, and the mayor have been working on
- 51:15Speaker 11: an ordinance to prohibit fireworks in public parks. So we're
- 51:20Speaker 11: gonna run that this week, try to get ahead up
- 51:22Speaker 11: for New Year. So that's the only item on the
- 51:24Speaker 11: agenda to night, so we'll see how it goes.
- 51:26Speaker 2: Matt, I was always I appreciate you being here, man,
- 51:27Speaker 2: I absolutely appreciate you. And if I don't see you
- 51:29Speaker 2: before Christmas, which I probably will have a married Christmas,
- 51:32Speaker 2: but you'll be around at some point.
- 51:33Speaker 11: I'll be around. You know where to find me. But
- 51:35Speaker 11: so if they let me out of my office every
- 51:36Speaker 11: now and then, we'll just hang out with us for
- 51:38Speaker 11: a little while if you want. DJ Meadows, Mister Wilson
- 51:41Speaker 11: is back right on.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on. Got a quick text for you.
- 51:44Speaker 2: What is the status of the Hilton brand hotel that's
- 51:47Speaker 2: supposed to go on the former secret site. Her plans
- 51:49Speaker 2: were submitted many months ago. Nothing's happening in the developers
- 51:51Speaker 2: apparently never followed through with any construction project in Charleston.
- 51:54Speaker 2: So let's start with that real quick. Hilton brand hotel.
- 51:58Speaker 11: Plans have been submitted of the City Planner's Office Engineer Department.
- 52:02Speaker 11: I know they gave some feedback to and had some
- 52:04Speaker 11: more communication with, But I also know that developer has
- 52:08Speaker 11: a legal matter right now with the owners of the
- 52:11Speaker 11: mall that I think they're working themselves through in order
- 52:14Speaker 11: to fully progress forward.
- 52:15Speaker 2: Gotta leave it there, mister Meadows, quickly, what you got?
- 52:18Speaker 10: Gabe Markel, Webster County High School Principal ten O six,
