- 1:53to straighten out a few things with Deddy Bill. Sounds to me like I
- 1:56ought to be police business. Johnny, I'll be right over. No,
- 1:59let me handle this alone. You got your gun. You bet your sweet
- 2:01life I have, Johnny. I'll report to you later tonight and every weekday
- 2:14night. Bob Bailey in the transcribed Adventures of the Man with the Action Packed
- 2:17Expense Account America's Fabulous freelance insurance Investigator Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. Expense account submitted
- 2:36by Special Investigator Johnny Dollar, location, New York City to the Lake Signed
- 2:38Life and Casualty Company. Following is an accounting of expended yours incurred during my
- 2:44investigation of the indestructible mic matter. It am sixteen one ninety cab fair for
- 2:49Mike Flynn and myself Bellevue Hospital to the Dingy Hotel, Breakley, both of
- 2:53his hand her heads still swathed in bandages. With the help of the room
- 2:57clerk, I installed Mike in a small room on the fifth with instructions to
- 3:00keep his door locked. In my own room, room two O three,
- 3:05I picked up my thirty eight and don the old clothes i'd bought item seventeen
- 3:08fifty five cents taxi to the neighborhood of the glad Hand Rescue Mission. For
- 3:13obvious reasons, I walked the last couple of blocks. When I got there,
- 3:16the big front assembly room was empty, so was the soup kitchen in
- 3:21the back of the place. I called Daddy Bill's name a couple of times,
- 3:24it got no answer, and finally decided to wait for him in the
- 3:28little room back of the assembly hall that he used for an office. I
- 3:32still felt a little shaky from the blow on the head, so I didn't
- 3:36mind just sitting a while, but I left the door open a crack,
- 3:38and a few wants later heard the street door open. It wasn't Daddy Bill,
- 3:46but I recognized him as a new coming of the mission, whom i'd
- 3:49seen on my first visit. He made directly for the little office already,
- 3:54Daddy, Why you ain't Daddy Bill's Oh do you know where he out shopping?
- 4:00At least that's where he say it was going. Didn't I see you
- 4:03in here the other day? Why, yes, sir, I guess you
- 4:06did. My name's Emery. I just read the rods in from Ohio.
- 4:12Boy, I had I got myself in a jam back at it. Yeah,
- 4:16I guess I just got me too much muscle. But they won't catch
- 4:19up with me here. That Bill promised me that. See I should have
- 4:24known you wasn't him in here? Oh? Sure? He said. He
- 4:28wouldn't be back for another hour. You playing the white for him? Sure
- 4:31do? He promised me a job. I wouldn't money on it. Enough
- 4:34money, he said, to get clear out of the country, and he'd
- 4:38help me do it. Doesn't it strike you, funny, bud, that
- 4:41the guy running a place like this would help you skip the country. Man,
- 4:44When you like me and you get a help in hand, you just
- 4:46don't ask no questions, you see, Mike, Mike Flynn, Yeah he
- 4:51come back. No why that Bill left me a package for him for him
- 4:57all Johnny if to come back here, well I'm Johnny. Well here,
- 5:01I get it right outside the door here, Yes, sir, liquor,
- 5:05he said, And maybe you let me have some here. See, I'll
- 5:11take it, licker. Did you say that's what he said? That's o
- 5:15man, No hands off, look at it. Man. Old Mike always
- 5:17shares this stuff with Lefty skill now Lefty Skimmer. It was Lefty who'd run
- 5:24us down with a truck whose body was found on the river. Lefty one
- 5:28of Daddy Bill's poor unfortunate's here at the mission. Things were beginning to add
- 5:31up. And this package left for Mike and me, Liquory said, but
- 5:35it didn't gurgle, Emery, listen to me, Sure, Johnny, but
- 5:42we get this package. I'm taking it with me back to the Waldorf.
- 5:46Waldorf. Yeah, that's right, that's where I'm staying. Don't let these
- 5:47close for you. I thought there was something funny about you, the way
- 5:51you talk. So fine you are, Dick. Never mind, If Dandy
- 5:56Bill wants me, that's where I'll be. Old Mikey won't find because they
- 5:59got him in room two o three at the Brakeley Hotel, Room two three.
- 6:03Forget it. He's still recovering from that accident. Shouldn't be disturbed.
- 6:06He's all doped up anyway. That's why I took him to the Braakley,
- 6:10where nobody will find him. I said, forget about that room two o
- 6:14three. If Daddy Villa wants me, tell him to call me at the
- 6:16Waldorf. I had an eighteen ten cents phone call from a booth in the
- 6:20street to Sergeant Randy Singer. I had am nineteen five bucks even for a
- 6:24fast but gentle taxi ride to the eighteenth Precinct, where Randy had promised to
- 6:28have the lab boys alerted for me. As I said, Jenny, yeah,
- 6:31I'm handlf softly. Oh yeah, okay, you're gonna stick around.
- 6:34I'm going back to the Brakeley to make sure Mike is all right, and
- 6:39I'll look here. Jack call the Waldorf for me, get me registered there.
- 6:42Instruck the disc that if there are any calls for me, I'm eating
- 6:45lunch or something and I'll be back in my room and say an hour do
- 6:47it. I'll see you later. Right, I'm nineteen taxi back to the
- 6:50Brakeley Hotel for the service entrance in the alley for five bucks. The freight
- 6:55elevator operator swore he'd tell no one he'd see me. Take the backstairs to
- 6:59room two o three, my room, not Mike's. As I told Emory
- 7:01at the mission off is room. Click. That's right, this is Johnny
- 7:06Dollar in two three. Oh yes, are you still working now? Listen?
- 7:10Listen carefully. If the police call me, put them through to anyone
- 7:13else who calls it comes looking for me. I'm not here, I never
- 7:15was. He never heard of me, understand. Oh yes, indeed,
- 7:17mister Dolla, we've worked with police and private investigators before. Okay, but
- 7:21if anybody wants to know about Mike Flynn, I want Flynn. Yeah,
- 7:25the old bomb I had you put in the room up on the fifth floor.
- 7:27Oh yes, if anybody asked for him, tell him he's in this
- 7:29room two o three. Oh, very well, you sure you got that
- 7:31straight? Yes, sir, Time was on my side. I hoped Emory
- 7:36back at the mission. It said Daddy Bill wouldn't return for an hour,
- 7:40but I couldn't be sure. As quickly as I could, I spilled a
- 7:42half bottle of whiskey around the room and the hope it would give the effect
- 7:45old Mike was there. Then I pulled down all the shades and drew the
- 7:46drapes tight across the windows. I turned on the bed and must have the
- 7:50covers so it would be ready for me. My watch said I still had
- 7:54time to kill, so I ran upstairs to Mike's from on the fifth and
- 7:57carrying a fifth Bless my sword, Johnny, and look what you rocked me
- 8:03on one condition, Mikey Oh yes, oh anything you so? You've been
- 8:07so good to me, I want you to promise that, no matter what
- 8:11happens, you'll stay right here in this room until I come back. Why,
- 8:13of course, Johnny, you have got anything you say, especially now
- 8:16that you brought me this bottle of to kind of keep me company. See,
- 8:20wouldn't you like a little nip before you go? No? No,
- 8:22thanks, So keep this store locked now? You sure you wouldn't like just
- 8:26one little No. I hate to think of me having it all alone,
- 8:30and you probably need as much as I do. Now, Oh say Johnny?
- 8:33Yeah? When are you and I going to be able to take these
- 8:35awful looking bandages off? Right here? We'll talk about that later. I
- 8:39got to get back to my room. Now you're sure I can't? I'm
- 8:41sure? Yeah? Now lock this door, all right, Johnny, But
- 8:48if you decide you want to with me quickly and quietly. I went back
- 8:52downstairs to two or three in cautious myself in leaving the door unlocked, that
- 8:58would have been there. I'd made it in time, and now all I
- 9:01could do was wait, hello, Johnny, Yeah, Randy, better make
- 9:20it fast. Oh, what's the matter. What do you call about it?
- 9:24That pretty little package you dropped off of the lab land? Yeah,
- 9:26you sure were right about it. Bomb Huh. If you or mine could
- 9:30opened that package by now, you'd be spread all over the island and tiny
- 9:33little pieces. Look, Johnny, come on, let me in on it.
- 9:35Huh. What are you up to do down there? I'll tell you
- 9:37when it's all over, that is, if what I think is going to
- 9:39happen does happen. Are you sure you don't want some help? No?
- 9:41I think I get it. I gotta go. I'd heard footsteps out in
- 9:46the hall. Quickly I slid into the bed, leaving nothing but my heavily
- 9:50bandage head showing the footsteps past and then far down the corridor, I heard
- 9:54a door open and close, and I still am waited there thinking. I
- 10:00began to wonder if I'd been right in turning down Randy's offer of help.
- 10:03How could he help with him? Footsteps again, and this time they stopped
- 10:09outside my door, all clear out here in the hall. That voice was
- 10:18Daddy Bill's and he wasn't along. Mike, Mike, what on the light,
- 10:31Mike, Oh he's in here all right? Smell that booze. He's
- 10:35there on the bed to sleep, you mean drunk close to hey, Sam,
- 10:39end of the world. Are you sure this is going to be safe,
- 10:43Dutchy, Why do you suppose it took so long? The case the
- 10:46Joe? Yeah? But what about Dollar? I told you Bill at the
- 10:48wall, doll. Are you sure you talked to him? No? No,
- 10:50he was in the coffee shop. I shut up. Get this over
- 10:54with. Always we do the dirty work for you, all right, this
- 10:58is one I'll do myself. Lose. Shut up, Johnny, Johnny,
- 11:07Wait a minute, that's Mike who's on that bed. Shut up? All
- 11:13right, Dollar, you can get up out of that bed and take it
- 11:15in the chest, or lay there and get it in the back, all
- 11:18right, Cosgrave Duchy, both hands up, Hie, drop that gun.
- 11:22Shure, Johnny? Shut him about their bill? Yeah, daddy Bill?
- 11:30Quiet, Dollar, you'd better do something Cosgravey or you have two witnesses,
- 11:33the man who always kept his skirts clean. Quiet. They'll let him lock
- 11:37him both off. Make it look like a fight between them. Something on
- 11:39the weight, boss, Johnny, is something I'm coming in? Oh no,
- 11:46you Hey, Randy, Hey, you're real rough, aren't you.
- 12:00No, Wait a minute, are I get up off his chest. I
- 12:03want to see what your dear friend Daddy Bill looks like. What did you
- 12:07hit him with anyway? Oh, dear, the poor bottles all broke?
- 12:13I just think it happened to you, Mike. Ah, this is Duchy
- 12:16Gordon alias J Wesley, Conns Gray. He won't be for long line.
- 12:20Well, what's that, Daddy Bill? You're feeling better? He always hung
- 12:24it on somebody else? What are you talking about? Left shortly all of
- 12:28them? This one need to hung on me. Well, not this time
- 12:39ready, I's grave den as a doorn. When Daddy Bill comes to after
- 12:43that sock on the chin, you can tell him he's cooked his own goose
- 12:48man man man. The world will be a bit better without Duchy Gordon Alisja
- 12:58Wesley. And of course the courts will take care of Daddy Bill. Lacking
- 13:03plenty, Mike indestructible Mike, Well, he'll probably outlive the rest of us.
- 13:09I hope I can get out to see you now and talk over our
- 13:13great adventure together. Expense account total six fifty, which is a lot less
- 13:18than the fifty thousand you might have had to pay off on Mike. Yours
- 13:22truly, Johnny Dollar. Now here's our star to tell you about next week's
- 13:39intriguing story. Next week the heavy romance of Moonlight on a lonely beach in
- 13:43Mexico, Moonlight from a Killer's Moon. Join us, Want You, Yours
- 13:50Truly Johnny Dellar. Yours Truly Johnny Dollar is starring Bob Bailey, is transcribed
- 14:05in Hollywood. It is produced and directed by Jack Johnstone, who also wrote
- 14:09this story. Heard in this week's cast were Howard McNair, Lawrence Dubkin,
- 14:15Harry Bartel, Herb Bigrn, Alan Reid, and Roy Glenn. Musical supervision
- 14:20by A. Marigo Marino and Carl Fortina. Be sure to join us on
- 14:24Monday night, same time in station or another exciting story of Yours Truly Johnny
- 14:28Dollar. Roy Rowan speaking welcome back. Well. I thought this was looking
- 15:07better for a Johnstone written serial, but this one, the ending had a
- 15:13few things that really really bother me. The biggest one was why why would
- 15:20Johnny not want the police present or the police assisting with the capture? And
- 15:28related to that question, tied directly into it is what exactly was he planning
- 15:33to do? Johnny got under the covers so that the two would think that
- 15:39he was Mike, and then what the only reason for not having the police
- 15:43there is to attempt to heighten dramatic tension at the end. In fact,
- 15:48I could imagine him no, Randy, you can't come over. That would
- 15:52ruin the dramatic tension. Then the second thing is how did Randy get there
- 15:58so quick? Did he call from down in the lobby? Made sense when
- 16:03Randy bailed out Johnny in the matter of the medium, well done, but
- 16:07here there was just no way. I mean, even Mark Donovan from the
- 16:11Adventures of Frank Race was never quite that skilled. I think that this had
- 16:18a pretty interesting concept around indestructible Mike that I think played pretty well early on.
- 16:27This wrap up was just a bizarre But one thing I will say for
- 16:33the whole serial is that it does start to give Johnny a bigger world of
- 16:41characters. I think, as we've listened to Johnny Dollar throughout the series,
- 16:48the character really has had one shot characters, and you know, every time
- 16:57he goes to New York, he meets with a different inspector of police,
- 17:03he meets with different old friends, different people calling from the insurance companies.
- 17:08Here we see the case initiated by Pat McCracken. We get Peter Branson,
- 17:15the brother of Harry Branson, and we have on a meeting the same police
- 17:21officer from previous stories. The show is starting to have some continuity and some
- 17:26recurring characters, which I think is one of the real strong points of the
- 17:30Johnstone era. And the writing does get better. In fact, there's one
- 17:34hero that we'll play in a few weeks and they're actually enjoyed quite a bit.
- 17:38But next Friday or next Monday, actually we'll begin our run of Christmas
- 17:44episodes of Johnny Dollar, which means we'll play those nineteen fifty five episodes we
- 17:48skipped over. So here Bob Bailey's first actual Christmas with yours truly, Johnny
- 17:55Doller. All right, well, now let's go ahead and take a listen
- 17:59to our new Carter Brown cereal. This one is The Lady Was Lethal Carter
- 18:15Brown Mysteries Adventures in Excitement and Suspense, based on the best selling novels by
- 18:25the slick storytelling sensation Carter Brown. How do you do, ladies and gentlemen,
- 18:52This is Carter Brown to introduce another one of my books for you.
- 18:56This story is quote the Lady was lethal, as my hero Johnny Eaton found
- 19:00out, And in finding that out, he also found quite a lot of
- 19:03tension and trouble. Which is Mike, you to quit and let Eaton carry
- 19:07on. I always hated the place. The business had taken me there more
- 19:25than once. Now it had taken me there again. It was large,
- 19:30high and cold, but then death is always cold. I hated the hollow
- 19:38ring your steps made on the floor, and the way your voice ricocheted off
- 19:44the walls. The shape which lay shrouded on the table drew my eyes,
- 19:51and there was a dry sensation at the back of my throat as Lieutenant Jogginson
- 19:55flipped the sheet away. There is Yeah, that's Hank Williams, right,
- 20:06that's all you gotta say. What do you want me to say? Happy,
- 20:10Busty? He was your partner, wasn't he? He was my partner.
- 20:15You're a tough guy, aren't you, Johnny Eaton, the man with
- 20:18the poker face. I show you your partner's body and you react like it
- 20:23was a guy you'd never seen before. You want me to best out crying?
- 20:27Went good with that to Hank. You guys have been in partnership for
- 20:32the last five years. What was acted like you were the best of pals.
- 20:36You were away in Detroit for three weeks on a job. You come
- 20:40back, I tell you Williams is dead. So so I'm wondering, Johnny,
- 20:45wondering whether you're really tough or just playing scared? What's that crack supposed
- 20:49to mean? Let's get out of here and I'll tell you. Well,
- 20:59I'm wondering how much you know about why Williams was knocked up? If you're
- 21:03acting like a clam because your figure, you'll stay alive that way, You
- 21:08think I'd be wasting my time, lieutenant, listening to your yack at a
- 21:11yack. If I knew who killed Hank could be I'll have to keep an
- 21:15eye on you, Johnny. After all, we don't want to lose the
- 21:19other half of the best private eye partnership in town doing No. We don't
- 21:29that, George, you love you, Uh huh, new model buick business
- 21:33must be looking up. We get by, I guess I should say I
- 21:38get by. Williams didn't have any family. My sister in Kentucky someplace.
- 21:45She'll have to be told what happens to his share of the business. I
- 21:48get it. His sister gets the rest, the door in the bank,
- 21:52et cetera. You should do all right out of the business. We both
- 21:56made a will, however, went first, left his share of the business
- 22:00to the other, and by good luck, Williams went first. Joginson,
- 22:07there are times when I dislike you more than normally. This is one of
- 22:12those times. As I drove back to the office, the night sky was
- 22:19studded with star points, but the silver twinkle was rivaled by the gleam of
- 22:23Garish neons stabbing above the streets. I let myself into the office started going
- 22:33through Hank's desk, but I knew it was a forlorn hope. There was
- 22:38one thing I hadn't told Lieutenant Joginson. I'd come back from Detroit in answer
- 22:45to an urgent wire from Hank. It said he'd cracked something really big and
- 22:48needed my help. The trouble was that Hank was the sort of private dick
- 22:53who never kept notes. He kept everything inside his skull, and that scowl
- 22:59was I was silent. I was right. There was no hint of what
- 23:07Hank could get onto, and there was so much of him in the office.
- 23:15I had to get out. I needed a drink. It was a
- 23:25hunky tonguk. I wasn't feeling like the black ty nightclubs. This dive had
- 23:30a sign outside which spelled the World's most Beautiful Girls. Inside the World's most
- 23:36Beautiful Girls were dancing with sailors, small time hoods, and suckers. They
- 23:40all looked bored and most of them chewed gum while they danced. Were ammadic.
- 23:45You drink bud bags. Hey you look kind of gloomy, kiddle,
- 23:53Why didn't you cheer up and have a dance? Fifty cents a ticket?
- 23:56Go away? Oh you don't have to be food. You don't want to
- 24:00have any from well, okay, go splash in the sea. Oh now
- 24:04look, there ain't no call to beat it, babe, what I said
- 24:08beat it? Well, okay, okay, not like to get tough without
- 24:14dames. Mind if I park, So it's yourself. You can find a
- 24:18glass, You can even have a drink. No thanks, cigar, No
- 24:22thanks, you're Johnny not right. Yeah, I was looking for you,
- 24:27so now you found me. How much do you want? But what you
- 24:33know? What? How much? I don't know what you're talking about?
- 24:37Quits darling, Seamus, name a price. Look, let's play a little
- 24:42game. Let's pretend I really don't know what you're talking about, so you
- 24:47tell me, and then if I've got it and it's for sale, I'll
- 24:51name a price. Okay, I'm talking about the thing your partner, Hank
- 24:56Williams had. He didn't have it this afternoon, and it wasn't in your
- 25:00office, so he either sent it to you or he parked at some place
- 25:04and told you where. Now put a tag on it, Buster, I
- 25:10ain't got all night. You mean Hank was murdered for this thing, but
- 25:14you couldn't find it? Sure, Or you don't just start anything you can't
- 25:19finish, Buster, I've got company, a little punk propping up the juke
- 25:26box. Plenty of good guys have been perforated by a punk. That's the
- 25:30point. So how much forty thousand dollars? That's a lot of doll Maybe
- 25:38it'd be cheaper to have happened to you, what happened to your partner.
- 25:41We'll let get you what you're looking for. Maybe we might sort of persuade
- 25:45you to tell where it is first. Maybe forty thousand is the price I
- 25:51hope to find out. Could take a little time, see to morrow and
- 25:56tell you be in your office. I'll be there, okay, Sheamus,
- 26:02don't do anything foolish, would you not like? Will you understand? I
- 26:07watched him clamp the cigar and his teeth signaled to the thin little guy,
- 26:11and the two of them walked out. Just in the blonde who'd tried to
- 26:15sell me a dance move past the table. I called, Yeah, what
- 26:18do you want, mister? I've changed my mind? Buy some tickets?
- 26:23How many ten bucks? With? Oh? I had a boy? Now
- 26:27you're getting hat? Sit down, have a drink? Sure, hey,
- 26:30buddy, another glass here, blondie. The ten dollars, Franks, here's
- 26:37your tickets, keep them. What's the big idea? You've got the ten
- 26:41bucks and the tickets, so you've just made a ten dollar profit, right?
- 26:45Yeah? Glass? Thanks? Remind me to endorse your Emily Post diploma
- 26:52sometime here. Give your stomach a shock. Thanks. Now at ten bucks
- 27:00you just made. That's for information. What do you want to know?
- 27:03Honey? A big guy who said scram and you're scrammed? Who is he?
- 27:07Mister? I think i'd better give you back your ten bucks. You'll
- 27:11sound like trouble to me. Trouble. I'm just curious. I've been out
- 27:15of town. I don't know any more. Who runs with who? Well
- 27:18he's Tiny Laban. I don't know who he works for, but he hangs
- 27:22out in the blues club here. That's what the name says, all blues
- 27:26and stuff. That was the other guy with him, Oh he was on
- 27:27his own. No, it was a little pastry faced guy by the jukebox.
- 27:32Oh that's baby Feace Brill. He's a mean character. Well, mister,
- 27:37look, get me ten dollars. Sure it does, and thanks.
- 27:40Sure you wouldn't like to dance I'll give you a dance for free some other
- 27:42time. I gotta be moving. You know business. If business means trouble.
- 27:47With Tiny Lavin, you won't tell him who told you over my dead
- 27:49buddy. With Tiny Lavin, that could be easy. The blues club class
- 28:00dive cloths on the tables, no taxi dancers, a floor show. Six
- 28:04girls were just finishing a routine. As I sat down in order to drink,
- 28:08they wobbled off the floor and the lights dimmed down to a single spot.
- 28:11As a compere breathed one word into the mic chilly. I thought he
- 28:18was talking about the weather, until a dame appeared in the spot and What
- 28:22a day. A tall brunette with a figure dreamed up by a perfectionist and
- 28:27then improved her You're ether blue, your kisses too. I never knew what
- 28:37they could do. Can't believe that you're in love with me? I listened
- 28:44to her low, husky voice and started to remember things like that Hank was
- 28:48like me, he could be a sucker for a dame. And if tiny
- 28:52Lavin was tied in with his place and Hank had something lad and wanted,
- 28:56then it wasn't impossible that Hank had met Chili. Await you far me.
- 29:06As I watched her, I decided it was more than probable that Hank knew
- 29:08were Chili was the last thing a guy would feel next to chili, and
- 29:15Hank liked to keep warm more than moose guys. Really than you're in love.
- 29:22I can't believe that you're in love with me? She finished her number.
- 29:40They go for more, but she just waved and wove off. I
- 29:42call the winner, Yes, sir, I'd like to talk to Chili.
- 29:47Sir. You stand at the end of a long line of gentlemen of the
- 29:48same ambition. There's a five spot going begging for someone to take it with
- 29:52the message to the lady. What message said that I'd like to talk to
- 29:56her? How about my partner, a guy named Hank Williams. Deliver your
- 30:00message Zone. I never saw a five dollar bill disappear faster from a table.
- 30:03I'm into a pocket. I pulled myself another drink, but I'd only
- 30:07had one sip when it was back with his eyebrows touching his hairline. Chilie
- 30:11will see it and look so surprised. I'm a guy who makes friends and
- 30:17has influence. The waiter led the way, and as I followed, I
- 30:22was congratulating myself. It looked like I had lighted on a lead at last.
- 30:37Welcome back. This is a really promising beginning to this card to Brown
- 30:42Cereal, but just a great mysterious situation set up really well. Of course,
- 30:48there's a little bit of a shade of a Maltese falcon here, with
- 30:52the partner being killed in the detective not being very demonstrative about his feelings on
- 30:57the matter. But more to comlext week. All right, Well, now
- 31:02we turn to listener comments and feedback, and Christine had an observation regarding regarding
- 31:12last week's serial Belladonna was poison and she said, I was just listening to
- 31:18this week's episode of The Carter Brown Story and thought it was hilarious that the
- 31:21hero is called rock Stone. It's hilarious because here in Jamaica, rock stone
- 31:26is an exclamation of surprise, as in, she did, what rock Stone?
- 31:32It's just funny to hear someone hear it is someone's name. I guess
- 31:37it'd be like if somebody in the Western United States heard a program where one
- 31:45of the characters was named Jumpin' Gihoshaphat. Well, thanks so much for that
- 31:48inside Christine. That's one of the great things about having listeners all over the
- 31:52world. You get some sometimes a surprising cultural information. Thanks again for sharing.
- 32:00And then we have an email from Melissa who says that who had a
- 32:07question about the Great Detectives app and the Dragnet app off of iTunes, And
- 32:14now she has an Android phone and it's a Galaxy four as and I went
- 32:19searching for the app for my app of the Great Detectors and I couldn't find
- 32:22one, which is why I'm writing, is there an app for the Droid
- 32:25top phones? And I hope there is is. I'm a single mom of
- 32:30three and I don't have the luxury of cable or internet, so Dragnet and
- 32:35the Great Detectives app are really my form of electronic entertainment. When I'm walking
- 32:39to school, I turn them on and listen, as well as when I
- 32:43get home from work. It's my way of relaxing. So to make a
- 32:45long email short, I hope and pray that I'm just savvy enough to know
- 32:51how to get the app, and there is one and in andwer to Melissa's
- 32:55question on that, And for those of you who have Android devices, the
- 33:00Great Detectors app is available, but you actually need to get the Amazon App
- 33:07Store onto your phone in order to access it. You get the Amazon App
- 33:12Store and that's where it is sold, not on the main Android app store.
- 33:20She says, thanks for putting these shows together. My favorite is Pat
- 33:22Novak. I love the metaphors and the languages use. You don't hear language
- 33:27like that anymore. Well, thanks on that. I don't know if we
- 33:32ever heard it quite like they did on Pat Novak, but that's definitely appreciated.
- 33:37And that reminds me that we're only a few weeks away from our second
- 33:43run through on Pat Novak, so that's going to be fun. And she
- 33:47says, I hope sometime you will look into doing not necessarily detective, but
- 33:53mystery like The Shadow or Mystery Theater. Just a suggestion. Well, the
- 33:59Shadow the rest this before, but The Shadow is one of those series that
- 34:05Radio Spirit has a somewhat dubious copyright. They claim copyright on it. Like
- 34:12I said, I find the claim by them doubtful just because of these programs
- 34:17at that point weren't really covered by federal copyright law. But it's just something
- 34:23that it would not be worth the aggravation because The Shadow they've shown is pretty
- 34:29much the one show that they will consistently go after any website that has it.
- 34:36As for CBS Mystery Theater, that one is almost certainly under copyright radio
- 34:44recordings made after February fifteenth of nineteen seventy two or covered by copyright protections unless
- 34:52they omitted the appropriate notice, so we won't be playing that show. But
- 34:58again, thanks for the suggestions. All right, well then we'll do it
- 35:00for today. We'll be back tomorrow with the lineup and then join us for
- 35:06yours truly Johnny Dollar Christmas episode on Monday, and we'll continue on with The
- 35:12Lady Is Lethal on Friday. In the meantime, send your comments to Box
