Speaker 3: I want to ask him about the relationship between Governor

Speaker 3: Morrissey and the Republicans in the legislature that's coming up.
• 2:05
Speaker 3: Plus it's kind of a surprise, but we are I
• 2:10
Speaker 3: don't have anybody scheduled in between two of my guests
• 2:13
Speaker 3: today because we get a retirement to talk about here
• 2:16
Speaker 3: in the But no, it's not me, Ryan, it's not me,
• 2:18
Speaker 3: it's one of our well, i'll say, one of our
• 2:21
Speaker 3: most valuable staff members is retiring. But he's the big boss.
• 2:26
Speaker 3: We're going to try our best to get him to
• 2:28
Speaker 3: come on the air. Now, sometimes these things don't work.
• 2:31
Speaker 3: And Joe Parsons is a guy who's been here for
• 2:33
Speaker 3: thirty nine years, general manager here and he is heading
• 2:36
Speaker 3: off to a golf course somewhere down south. He's going
• 2:40
Speaker 3: to be retired once he's done with the legislature. By
• 2:42
Speaker 3: the way, he's also a delegate. So we're going to
• 2:44
Speaker 3: try our best to try to get him on the
• 2:47
Speaker 3: show a little bit later on. Not going to make
• 2:49
Speaker 3: any promises because for somebody who works around radio, he
• 2:52
Speaker 3: does not like to be on microphone at all. He's
• 2:54
Speaker 3: not not your guy. But we're going to try to
• 2:56
Speaker 3: get him on the show a little bit later on.

• 3:11
Speaker 3: Good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning, Welcome to
• 3:14
  Speaker 3: our new abode.
• 3:15
  Speaker 2: Here.
• 3:15
Speaker 6: These are some pretty fancy digs here.
• 3:18
Speaker 3: Far too fancy for the for a guy from Logan
• 3:20
Speaker 3: to be hosting the show. I could tell you that.
• 3:22
Speaker 6: Great congratulations on the new studio, and congratulations to Joe
• 3:25
  Speaker 6: on his retirement.
• 3:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, he's thirty nine years.
• 3:28
  Speaker 6: That's a lot.
• 3:28
Speaker 3: Couldn't have made it one more year.
• 3:30
Speaker 6: I know, come on, make it even.
• 3:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, come on, man, the the person the OCD and
• 3:35
Speaker 3: me doesn't like that I got to do one more year.
• 3:38
Speaker 3: But anyway, we'll talk about that coming up a little
• 3:41
Speaker 3: later on Tara. We have all heard the stories about
• 3:44
Speaker 3: the issues with childcare, not only in West Virginia but
• 3:47
Speaker 3: across the country. And you and I both know it's
• 3:50
  Speaker 3: a problem.
• 3:51
Speaker 6: It is a big problem. And for those of you
• 3:53
Speaker 6: just let me back up for a minute. You don't
• 3:55
Speaker 6: know who Advantage Valley is what we do. We are
• 3:59
Speaker 6: a region economic development organization that promotes investment, business attraction,
• 4:05
Speaker 6: and retention in the Charleston and Huntington metro areas combined.
• 4:09
Speaker 6: We kind of view ourselves as one market area. And
• 4:13
Speaker 6: quite honestly, there's been a lot of success lately, and
• 4:17
Speaker 6: we're not claiming credit for it, but there's been a
• 4:20
Speaker 6: lot of success by the State of West Virginia and
• 4:22
Speaker 6: our partners and others to attract new businesses in and
• 4:26
Speaker 6: we're projecting that there's going to be about fifty three
• 4:28
Speaker 6: hundred new manufacturing jobs coming into our region over the
• 4:32
Speaker 6: next five, six, seven years. And you know, for every
• 4:34
Speaker 6: manufacturing job, there's a spin off of indirect jobs. So
• 4:38
Speaker 6: really we're looking at thousands of new jobs coming in
• 4:42
Speaker 6: and thousands of new households. And we've got a childcare
• 4:46
Speaker 6: problem because right now today, without all those new jobs
• 4:50
Speaker 6: coming in, we lack about fifty three hundred childcare slots
• 4:54
  Speaker 6: in our region.
• 4:55
  Speaker 3: That's a lot.
• 4:56
Speaker 6: That's a lot. So then you compound that with all
• 4:58
Speaker 6: the new jobs coming in, and we always hear employers
• 5:02
Speaker 6: saying workforce, workforce, we need more workforce, and this is
• 5:06
Speaker 6: one of the key barriers for people entering into the workforce.
• 5:10
Speaker 6: So we at Advantage Rally are trying to think through
• 5:14
Speaker 6: some solutions on how in our region we can help
• 5:16
  Speaker 6: solve that problem.
• 5:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, we're talking to Aryl Ellis of Advantage Valley and
• 5:22
Speaker 3: I'm interested in how exactly that you're going to go
• 5:26
Speaker 3: about this because the jobs. I won't say the jobs
• 5:29
Speaker 3: are the easy part, because they're not the easy part.
• 5:30
Speaker 3: But sometimes it's those other things that in order to
• 5:35
Speaker 3: and I know you and I last time you're on
• 5:36
Speaker 3: a show, we talked about the lack of housing, of
• 5:39
Speaker 3: housing for these work folks. Sometimes that can be just
• 5:42
Speaker 3: as difficult as trying to get these manufacturers and these
• 5:44
Speaker 3: job creators into the state.
• 5:46
Speaker 6: That's right. I mean, we've identified housing, childcare, and transportation
• 5:50
Speaker 6: as three barriers to trying to get people into the workforce.
• 5:53
Speaker 6: So these are three areas that we're really working on,
• 5:56
Speaker 6: you know, and this is not a problem. Childcare. The
• 5:58
Speaker 6: lack of childcare is not a part problem for just
• 6:00
Speaker 6: Advantage Valley, throughout the state, really throughout the country, but
• 6:04
Speaker 6: throughout the state there's about forty one percent of children
• 6:08
Speaker 6: throughout the state that don't have access to childcare children
• 6:11
Speaker 6: under the age of six, and in our region it
• 6:14
Speaker 6: ranges anywhere from about thirty percent of the camp of
• 6:18
Speaker 6: the kids in certain counties like Kanan Cable all the
• 6:21
Speaker 6: way up to ninety percent in Clay County. Of children
• 6:25
Speaker 6: under the age of six do not have access to
• 6:27
Speaker 6: childcare in Lincoln and Boone Counties and numbers around seventy
• 6:31
Speaker 6: five percent to seventy nine percent. So obviously it's an
• 6:35
Speaker 6: issue and one of the things. So there are there.
• 6:40
Speaker 6: It's sort of like there's not any one silver bullet.
• 6:43
Speaker 6: I think, you know, we all recognize we have to
• 6:45
Speaker 6: be attacking this on all different levels. So I know
• 6:47
Speaker 6: the legislature has considered things in the past, and they're
• 6:51
Speaker 6: considering some bills currently that will help and for us
• 6:56
Speaker 6: in our region, we wanted to number one, understand some
• 7:00
Speaker 6: of the key issues that are keeping our existing childcare
• 7:02
Speaker 6: providers from expanding. Some of them are closing. So we
• 7:06
Speaker 6: number one, we want to understand for those who are
• 7:09
Speaker 6: already here, what can we do to help them? And
• 7:11
Speaker 6: number two, how can we help people think about maybe
• 7:14
Speaker 6: opening childcare businesses. So those are the two strategies that
• 7:18
Speaker 6: we're employing and so recently we completed focus groups with
• 7:24
Speaker 6: about twenty four participants from throughout the region of providers
• 7:28
Speaker 6: who are already in business and talk to them about
• 7:31
Speaker 6: what are the issues that are their pain points, what
• 7:34
Speaker 6: are their problems that they're having. One of the biggest
• 7:37
Speaker 6: ones is staff retention. They're competing with just Target and
• 7:41
Speaker 6: Sheets and all these other places that are now offering
• 7:44
Speaker 6: fifteen seventeen dollars an hour, and so they've had to
• 7:47
Speaker 6: really increase their wages and they're losing workforce to those
• 7:53
Speaker 6: businesses because childcare is not always easy. And one of
• 7:57
Speaker 6: the other things that we've discovered those focus groups since COVID,
• 8:02
Speaker 6: there has been a big increase in behavioral issues among
• 8:06
Speaker 6: children since post COVID. So now you've got childcare providers
• 8:11
Speaker 6: who are short staffed and are stressed with dealing with
• 8:14
Speaker 6: some of these behavioral issues and not always equipped to
• 8:17
Speaker 6: deal with them, and it's causing a real problem with
• 8:20
Speaker 6: staff turnover. And what that means is that when people
• 8:24
Speaker 6: are leaving, when that workforce is leaving, that childcare provider
• 8:28
Speaker 6: cannot open up as many slots as they are licensed for.
• 8:32
Speaker 6: So we have providers that might be licensed for one
• 8:35
Speaker 6: hundred slots but really they're only able to serve sixty
• 8:40
Speaker 6: kids because they don't have the right staff ratio, and
• 8:43
Speaker 6: this is becoming a bigger and bigger problem all the
• 8:45
Speaker 6: way around. So these are some of the issues. And
• 8:48
Speaker 6: then there are just some financial issues with regard to
• 8:51
Speaker 6: the reimbursement rates and how they get reimbursed from the state.
• 8:55
Speaker 6: There's some systems issues there, so we recognize that and
• 9:00
Speaker 6: we I think have talked about our entrepreneurship program in
• 9:04
Speaker 6: the past how we work with small businesses trying to
• 9:07
Speaker 6: get up and running. So through our entrepreneurship program, we're
• 9:10
Speaker 6: going to be targeting some resources to those existing childcare providers.
• 9:15
Speaker 6: We heard a story about one provider, a proposed provider,
• 9:20
Speaker 6: a woman who is going to open a childcare service
• 9:23
Speaker 6: in her home, and you have to have a smoke detector.
• 9:27
Speaker 6: So when she went to the health department and did
• 9:29
Speaker 6: whatever she had to do to get licensed, they said, oh,
• 9:32
Speaker 6: that smoke detector has to be hardwired by a licensed electrician.
• 9:36
Speaker 6: You can't just do the yeah in your home. And
• 9:41
  Speaker 6: she's like, I don't have the money to hire a
• 9:43
Speaker 6: licensed electrician, So she just quit her process and didn't open.
• 9:46
Speaker 6: We can provide some funding, some mini grants to help
• 9:49
Speaker 6: people overcome those kind of hurdles. Sometimes it's just small
• 9:52
Speaker 6: things that you can help with. So through our entrepreneurship program,
• 9:55
Speaker 6: we're going to do that. But then how do we
• 9:58
Speaker 6: get people to open new facilities. It's a challenging industry
• 10:05
Speaker 6: to be in because there's so many regulations and a
• 10:07
Speaker 6: lot of different agencies you have to deal with. So
• 10:10
Speaker 6: we have initiated a series of workshops where we bring
• 10:13
Speaker 6: all those agencies together and we try to simplify an
• 10:17
Speaker 6: understanding of how you would get open and to explain
• 10:20
Speaker 6: to people what resources are out there to help them. Actually,
• 10:24
Speaker 6: there are a lot of resources out there to help
• 10:27
Speaker 6: childcare providers, and we want to make people aware of that.
• 10:30
Speaker 6: Through our program. We offer business coaching, loans, technical assistance, money,
• 10:36
Speaker 6: and mini grants. The State of West Virginia is working
• 10:40
Speaker 6: with a company called Wonder School. They just came into
• 10:43
Speaker 6: the state and they're providing business coaching, cash flow planning analysis,
• 10:48
Speaker 6: and marketing assistance. And we have childcare resource and referral
• 10:53
Speaker 6: agencies that have a ton of resources. So the point
• 10:56
Speaker 6: is we're doing all these workshops. We want people to
• 10:59
Speaker 6: come if they even have a mild interest and learn
• 11:02
Speaker 6: about how because you can open something in your home
• 11:06
Speaker 6: and serve six kids in your home, and that would
• 11:09
Speaker 6: be great. I mean we you know, any any.
• 11:11
Speaker 3: Number provider, I mean said that's six slots.
• 11:14
Speaker 6: I had six slots potentially six families that can then
• 11:17
Speaker 6: go to work. So and that's kind of a low
• 11:20
Speaker 6: barrier to entry. So we're doing the workshops. The next
• 11:23
Speaker 6: one is in Putnam County on April tenth at Area
• 11:26
Speaker 6: thirty four, which is where the Chamber of Commerce is located,
• 11:30
Speaker 6: at five thirty in the evening. So I hope people
• 11:32
Speaker 6: will come and learn about it.
• 11:33
Speaker 3: Talking to Cheryl Ellis from Advantage Valley of Dave Allen
• 11:36
Speaker 3: Show and five Any Line presented in partner by Hustan's
• 11:38
Speaker 3: Pizza this month to gets yourself a large J. T.
• 11:40

• 11:45
Speaker 3: your closest Hustands at Hustin's Pizza dot com. So what
• 11:48
Speaker 3: goes into where you decide to have these things as
• 11:51
Speaker 3: far as the communities go. I know you said this
• 11:53
Speaker 3: one's going to be at Area thirty four, in Putnham County.
• 11:55
Speaker 3: But what kind of work do you do to make
• 11:57
Speaker 3: sure that you get these out to everybody?
• 11:59
Speaker 6: Well, we our nine counties within our region, so we
• 12:02
Speaker 6: will hold one in every county. We held one in
• 12:04
Speaker 6: Jackson County last month. Knall County is going to be
• 12:07
Speaker 6: in May, so there will be one in every county.
• 12:10
Speaker 6: But we're doing twelve, so we're going to go. We
• 12:12
Speaker 6: haven't decided whether we're going to double up in the
• 12:15
Speaker 6: counties that have the larger population or double up in
• 12:18
Speaker 6: the counties that have the greater need, So towards the
• 12:21
Speaker 6: end of the year we'll make that decision. But there
• 12:23
Speaker 6: will be three, repeat, repeat counties that we do towards
• 12:27
Speaker 6: the end of the year.
• 12:29
Speaker 3: And where can people learn more about these?
• 12:31
Speaker 6: So go to our website. It's very easy to remember
• 12:33
Speaker 6: Advantage Valley dot com and you will see a tab
• 12:37
Speaker 6: up in the left side of the website for childcare.
• 12:41
Speaker 6: Click on that and you'll see the information about where
• 12:44
Speaker 6: all the workshops are scheduled and how you can register
• 12:48
Speaker 6: to attend. If you don't register and decide at the
• 12:51
Speaker 6: last minute to come, that's perfectly fine. It's just for
• 12:54
  Speaker 6: planning purposes.
• 12:55
Speaker 3: We like to have you register what was the day
• 12:57
Speaker 3: of the one in Puttnam County game, because that's the
• 12:59
Speaker 3: first one you have April tenth.
• 13:00
Speaker 6: The next one coming up is April tenth at five
• 13:02
Speaker 6: thirty pm at Area thirty four, which is the Just
• 13:05
Speaker 6: look up the Putnam County Chamber.
• 13:07
Speaker 3: Yeah, if you're coming, just for a point of reference,
• 13:09
Speaker 3: if you're coming from the Charleston area and you get
• 13:11
Speaker 3: off the Tays Valley, actually you hang a right right
• 13:13
Speaker 3: across from Liberty Square. One of my favorite coffee shops
• 13:16
Speaker 3: is in there. I'll get a plug in for Connie
• 13:18
Speaker 3: with Putnam Provisions and Drip Coffee. They do a great
• 13:20
Speaker 3: job in there. And thanks to Ashley offer Glance, you
• 13:23
Speaker 3: know from the from the Putnam Chamber. She's the one
• 13:26
Speaker 3: that alerted me to this to get in touch with
• 13:29
Speaker 3: your folks, to get you to get you in here
• 13:30
Speaker 3: to talk about that. So, I mean, it's great work
• 13:32
Speaker 3: that you're doing. And I mean that's what Advantage Valley does.
• 13:36
Speaker 3: You always do great work, but especially for this because again,
• 13:40
Speaker 3: I mean West Virginia has suffered financially and suffered with jobs,
• 13:44
Speaker 3: you know, not having enough jobs. Well now the jobs
• 13:47
Speaker 3: are coming, but we got to have everything that goes
• 13:49
Speaker 3: with the job, and that's sometimes, as I said at
• 13:52
Speaker 3: the outset to Terrell, that can be just as important,
• 13:54
Speaker 3: if not more so.
• 13:55
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right, And and there are two bills in
• 13:58
Speaker 6: the legislature that are interesting bills. One would help deal
• 14:03
Speaker 6: with the staff retention issue at childcare providers, and that
• 14:07
Speaker 6: would allow people who work at childcare facilities to have
• 14:11
Speaker 6: their children's childcare subsidized, so it would make it more
• 14:16
Speaker 6: affordable for them to work at a facility and help
• 14:20
Speaker 6: out there. And then the other is something it's interesting,
• 14:23
Speaker 6: a model that we're trying out here in the state.
• 14:25
Speaker 6: It's the tri share model, and that's where there will
• 14:29
Speaker 6: be a tri party agreement between employers, the family, and
• 14:35
Speaker 6: the state of West Virginia to split the costs of
• 14:39
Speaker 6: childcare three ways for an employee. So there's some legislation
• 14:43
Speaker 6: going through the House through the House right now. And
• 14:47
Speaker 6: I mentioned Wonder School, the organization the state is partnering with,
• 14:51
Speaker 6: and they are pushing that as well with their in
• 14:53
Speaker 6: the counties they're working. So we're trying to tackle it
• 14:56
Speaker 6: on all areas, and it's going to take everybody to
• 14:59
Speaker 6: really try to contribute to.
• 15:00
Speaker 3: The effort Advantage Valley dot com. Very simple website to
• 15:04

• 17:47
Speaker 3: going on here, This is exactly what this is. This
• 17:49
Speaker 3: kind of frightens me a little bit. Joe Parsons, will
• 17:52
Speaker 3: you have a seat here, force please? And it didn't matter.
• 17:54
Speaker 3: We got plenty of saints there, any any of them,
• 17:57
Speaker 3: any of them's give Joe Parsons longtime general manager here
• 18:02
Speaker 3: and he's held a bunch of other titles within the company.
• 18:06
Speaker 3: Now you don't need that puns.
• 18:07
  Speaker 10: It's fine.
• 18:08
Speaker 3: I'm not gonna open up the phone line to mess
• 18:09
Speaker 3: up here because if we open up the phone lines,
• 18:12
Speaker 3: we might get angry people calling, So we're not gonna
• 18:14
Speaker 3: do that. A little bit later on, Joe Parsons is
• 18:16
Speaker 3: announcing his retirements. How long have you been here, Jim?
• 18:21
  Speaker 4: Too long?
• 18:23
  Speaker 11: Now?

Speaker 4: I have been this may. I'm in my fortieth year.
• 18:28
  Speaker 4: Uh huh.
• 18:29
Speaker 11: I won't make it, since today's my last day. But
• 18:31
Speaker 11: I started February third, nineteen eighty six.
• 18:34
Speaker 3: Okay, and talk about the changes just a few since
• 18:39
Speaker 3: February third, eighteen eighty six.
• 18:41
Speaker 11: Well, we didn't own this building or these stations when
• 18:43
Speaker 11: I started with the company. I started with Metro News,
• 18:46
Speaker 11: and our offices were up at what was called at
• 18:49
Speaker 11: the time the Players Club, up on top of the
• 18:51
Speaker 11: hill near where mcdonnaugh Caverton was located, and we bought
• 18:56
Speaker 11: these stations. I think in nineteen ninety one my office
• 18:59
Speaker 11: moved down here. It's been here ever since.
• 19:02
Speaker 3: What was it that led you to come to work here?
• 19:05
  Speaker 2: Jim?
• 19:05
  Speaker 3: It's a it's a I've heard the story before too
• 19:07
  Speaker 3: many times. It's a kidd, It's a fascinating story.
• 19:11
Speaker 4: It really is well, it's my wife's first cousin's husband.
• 19:16
Speaker 3: This is going to require paper, guys.
• 19:18
Speaker 11: Yes, worked worked for West Virginia Radio Corporation, and I
• 19:24
Speaker 11: had moved back from Knoxville, Tennessee, and was working for
• 19:26
Speaker 11: a collection agency, which was an interesting.
• 19:29
Speaker 3: Career, bustin kneecaps and whatnot.
• 19:32
Speaker 11: It kind of okay just on the phone, though, but
• 19:34
Speaker 11: I really wanted to get into sales. And we were
• 19:37
Speaker 11: at my wife's grandfather's house one weekend and I made
• 19:41
Speaker 11: the comment that I'm looking for a sales job, and
• 19:44
Speaker 11: Gary Merten said, I'm looking to hire somebody. So I said, well,
• 19:48
Speaker 11: how do I get that job? And he said, well,
• 19:50
Speaker 11: you need to talk to Dale Miller Monday morning in Morgantown.
• 19:54
Speaker 11: So he proceeded to call Dale and and Dale.
• 19:57
Speaker 4: Said, yeah, be here a day o'clock.
• 19:59
Speaker 11: Well, I lived in Ripley still do, and so I
• 20:03
Speaker 11: left the house at five o'clock in the morning to
• 20:05
Speaker 11: make sure I got to Morgantown by eight o'clock. Walked
• 20:09
Speaker 11: into Dell's office and he looked at my resume and
• 20:13
Speaker 11: politely said, what makes you think you can sell radio?
• 20:17
Speaker 11: And I told him I said, well, I sold vacuum
• 20:19
Speaker 11: cleaners for a couple of years, and I'd walk into
• 20:21
Speaker 11: a complete stranger's house and walk out with two thousand dollars,
• 20:24
Speaker 11: so I can probably sell whatever you have to sell.
• 20:27
Speaker 11: And he said, when do you want to start? So
• 20:31
Speaker 11: that was the beginning and this is the end.
• 20:35
Speaker 2: What led you to.
• 20:36
Speaker 3: This decision to want to step down at this time?
• 20:39
Speaker 11: I'm old, that's the first thing. Now, you know, my
• 20:43
Speaker 11: father told me one time, you'll know when it's time,
• 20:48
  Speaker 11: and and we'll get emotional it's time. It's been a
• 20:53
Speaker 11: good run. This is a great company. I've had the
• 20:56
Speaker 11: pleasure of working with great people, like everybody in this room,
• 21:03
Speaker 11: Hoppy kerchival Dale Miller, now George Pelletteer. It's a great company.
• 21:08
  Speaker 11: It's been a lot of fun. I'm gonna miss I'm
• 21:11
Speaker 11: not gonna miss the work. I'm gonna miss you guys.
• 21:15
Speaker 3: And this is quite a good staff we have here.
• 21:17
Speaker 3: I mean, I've only been here for five years, but
• 21:20
Speaker 3: you look around this room, uh, and there's got of
• 21:23
Speaker 3: people that's been here for for a while. For a while, I.
• 21:27
Speaker 11: Spend a lot more time with these people than I
• 21:29
Speaker 11: have my own family.
• 21:30
  Speaker 3: And that's a nature of work. Yes, that's a nature
• 21:32
Speaker 3: of work. Who wants to say something? Anybody come on,
• 21:39
Speaker 3: not you, I'm holding you for them, anybody else, all right,
• 21:43
Speaker 3: Dale Cooper, Coop, come on now.
• 21:45
Speaker 12: Come in congratulations Joe. Yeah, man, Joe has been one
• 21:49
Speaker 12: of my mentors here for a long time, not always
• 21:51
Speaker 12: as the primary general manager. That's come and gone a
• 21:54
Speaker 12: few times here, but of the people that I look
• 21:57
Speaker 12: to in my career as mentors that's helped me along
• 21:59
Speaker 12: in this in the profession, in this job, Joe's at
• 22:01
Speaker 12: the top of the list for that. There's a lot
• 22:04
Speaker 12: worse people that you could monitor or model yourself over
• 22:08
Speaker 12: when it comes to how you conduct yourself and how
• 22:10
Speaker 12: do you conduct business than Joe Parsons. And I'm glad
• 22:13
Speaker 12: you're part of the legislator as well. To be honest
• 22:15
  Speaker 12: with you, Joe.
• 22:15
Speaker 11: I'm going to say something here, Folks listening, you're going
• 22:18
Speaker 11: to hear a lot of lies from this point on.
• 22:21
Speaker 3: Dale Dale Cooper's talking about the legislature. I'm sorry.
• 22:27
Speaker 11: You said it. Dale Cooper's one of the smartest men
• 22:30
Speaker 11: I know, and I haven't been his mentor.
• 22:32
Speaker 4: He's been one of mine.
• 22:33
Speaker 3: Oh goodness, all right, I need I do need to
• 22:36
Speaker 3: put the headphones on for a minute there, if you would.
• 22:37
Speaker 3: All right, Ryan, if you're ready, go ahead. Hello, you're
• 22:42
Speaker 3: on the air, sir, go ahead.
• 22:44
Speaker 10: Good morning Dave, and certainly good morning happy Joe. Nice
• 22:48
Speaker 10: to be talking to you on your on your writing
• 22:52
Speaker 10: off into the sunset day. They're in Charleston. You know,
• 22:56
Speaker 10: you and I have gotten an opportunity to become friends.
• 23:00
  Speaker 10: We've worked through a lot, a lot, a lot of
• 23:03
Speaker 10: opportunities and things there in Charleston, and I've been around
• 23:08
Speaker 10: for a long time like you, and I have to
• 23:11
Speaker 10: say that there is no better character in a man
• 23:16
Speaker 10: or a woman in a leadership role ever in my career.
• 23:20
Speaker 10: You always try to do the right the right thing.
• 23:23
Speaker 10: You always try to take the high road, and your
• 23:28
Speaker 10: honesty and integrity are just unquestioned.
• 23:31
  Speaker 7: Uh.
• 23:32
  Speaker 10: It's been it's been a great five years, and I
• 23:35
Speaker 10: wish you and and Stacy all the best. And I've
• 23:40
Speaker 10: figured out a way that we really don't have to
• 23:41
Speaker 10: change anything other than first names. They're in Charleston because
• 23:46
Speaker 10: we're replacing you with the Parsons, with your son Jared,
• 23:50
Speaker 10: which I'm sure has to be a very proud moment
• 23:54
Speaker 10: for you, Joe and wish you all the best, my friend.
• 24:00
Speaker 11: Thank you very much, George. And I am proud of
• 24:02
Speaker 11: Jared and what he's done and where he is now.
• 24:06
Speaker 11: And as I told the listeners, you're going to start
• 24:09
Speaker 11: hearing a bunch of lives.
• 24:10
Speaker 4: And there was the first one.
• 24:12
Speaker 11: Now, George, George, thank you very much. You and I
• 24:14
Speaker 11: had a private conversation about my decision to retire a
• 24:18
Speaker 11: while back, and I'm in every word of it.
• 24:20
Speaker 10: Yeah, well it's I wish you all the best and
• 24:23
Speaker 10: we'll see you soon.
• 24:24
Speaker 3: Thank you, George Pellett here bringing this gentleman right here,
• 24:28
Speaker 3: This is the one that George was just referring to.
• 24:30
Speaker 3: Because we don't have to change the last name, at
• 24:32
Speaker 3: least in the office is Jared Parsons will be taken
• 24:34
Speaker 3: over for the old man here.
• 24:36
  Speaker 2: Good morning.
• 24:36
Speaker 3: All right, it's your time to say what don't say,
• 24:39
Speaker 3: whatever's on your mind. Okay, just keep it, keep it
• 24:41
  Speaker 3: to radio.
• 24:41
Speaker 13: Okay, sure, I'll keep it short. This days about him.
• 24:45
Speaker 13: I remember growing up.
• 24:48
  Speaker 5: We lived.
• 24:48
Speaker 13: We grew up in Ripley, which is where my mom
• 24:51
Speaker 13: and dad still live, and we would listen to AM
• 24:57
Speaker 13: radio as far as we could from Charleston to and
• 25:01
Speaker 13: we listened to this radio station here, and I always
• 25:04
Speaker 13: wondered why, you know, he wanted to listen.
• 25:06
Speaker 4: To static all the time. It's just like constant static.
• 25:11
Speaker 13: But as I got older and spent more time here,
• 25:13
Speaker 13: actually in this building. I worked here when I was
• 25:16
Speaker 13: in college at West Virginia State and got to know
• 25:19
Speaker 13: a lot of these people as well. But now I've
• 25:23
Speaker 13: been with the company for thirteen years, and luckily I've
• 25:26
Speaker 13: learned a lot from my father. He's obviously meant toward
• 25:30
Speaker 13: me over the last decade. And it's bittersweet to leave
• 25:37
Speaker 13: the Eastern Panhandle, which is where I was before today.
• 25:40
Speaker 13: But it's really I'm honored to following his footsteps, try
• 25:47
Speaker 13: to uphold the stain integrity that he is. He has
• 25:52
Speaker 13: built here in this building, and I hope I do
• 25:54
  Speaker 13: you proud?
• 25:56
Speaker 3: Fred Persinger, That's curious. When's when's tea time?
• 25:59
Speaker 14: Dare yes, when I'm looking for it. You don't count
• 26:05
Speaker 14: anymore than you're done. You're finished. You're finished. Joe and
• 26:09
Speaker 14: I go back. I've been here now twenty four years,
• 26:14
Speaker 14: and Joe Parsons, we went through. I worked at Beckley
• 26:20
Speaker 14: Radio Station. In fact, I was one of the very
• 26:21
Speaker 14: first affiliates Elementro News Radio Network in Beckley, and so
• 26:28
Speaker 14: I knew the company well. But things happen and companies
• 26:32
Speaker 14: get sold, and I wasn't happy. And I called Happy
• 26:36
Speaker 14: and I said, hey, I'm ready to because they tried
• 26:38
Speaker 14: to hire me several times away from the other company.
• 26:42
Speaker 14: And I finally said, okay, I'm ready to go, and
• 26:44
Speaker 14: Joe drove to Beckley. We ate lunch at Bob Evans.
• 26:50
Speaker 14: I think it's the last time I've ever eaten at
• 26:51
  Speaker 14: Bob Heavens.
• 26:52
Speaker 3: But well, you're getting ready to here in a minute,
• 26:55
Speaker 3: we go ahead full circle.
• 26:57
Speaker 4: Hey, all right, that's good.
• 26:59
Speaker 14: But Joe, how I feel about him and Stacy and
• 27:02
Speaker 14: his family. And it's been a great, great time for me.
• 27:07
Speaker 14: I have learned a lot from the younger mister Parsons.
• 27:11
Speaker 14: And you'll be missed. There's no doubt you will be missed.
• 27:15
  Speaker 10: Well.
• 27:16
Speaker 11: I appreciate that Fred, and Fred was one of the
• 27:21
Speaker 11: hardest sales jobs I ever had to make. He told you,
• 27:23
Speaker 11: he said no multiple times. But I found out that
• 27:28
Speaker 11: his company was being sold and we reached out one
• 27:30
Speaker 11: more time and he said, yeah, let's talk. So and
• 27:33
Speaker 11: the rest is history. One of the best in the world,
• 27:38
Speaker 11: Fred Perseiger, all right, thank you, pardon.
• 27:41
Speaker 15: Hey, all right, congratulations all right, And you know, Joe's
• 27:49
Speaker 15: a great manager because he strikes the balance between you know,
• 27:55
Speaker 15: having a heart right and yes, and and also having
• 28:00
Speaker 15: the having to make the tough decisions too. And so, uh,
• 28:04
Speaker 15: I appreciate the newsroom, you appreciate appreciates his support all
• 28:07
Speaker 15: these years and most of him staying out of the way,
• 28:10
Speaker 15: which is a great thing.
• 28:12
  Speaker 11: Uh.
• 28:12
Speaker 15: But you know, we're going to miss him in the building, uh,
• 28:15
Speaker 15: you know, and just uh just you know, seeing him
• 28:18
Speaker 15: walk down the hall and talking to him and actually
• 28:22
Speaker 15: not talking so much about the business, but talking about
• 28:25
Speaker 15: the family, what's going on, how you doing, those type
• 28:29
Speaker 15: of things. Just some per you know, just some personal
• 28:30
Speaker 15: conversations too over the years. So congratulations, enjoy it. I
• 28:36
Speaker 15: don't know why you lost that bet and had to
• 28:37
Speaker 15: run for the legislature, but anyway, hopefully don't be a stranger.
• 28:43
Speaker 15: Now that we have all these new all this new
• 28:45
  Speaker 15: studio and everything.
• 28:46
Speaker 3: He said he wanted to stay until we got the
• 28:47
Speaker 3: studio complete, and so the studio is, you know, ninety
• 28:51
Speaker 3: nine point nine ninety nine percent finished. So he's ready
• 28:53
Speaker 3: to he's ready to tee off now, Jeff Jenkins from
• 28:56
Speaker 3: the news team, I appreciate you very much. Well, Joe,
• 28:58
Speaker 3: to look around here.
• 28:59
Speaker 6: You got a lot of You've got a.
• 29:00
Speaker 3: Lot of people in here, man, you got people from
• 29:02
Speaker 3: get back to work well, and you see this giant
• 29:05
Speaker 3: stack of live reads. I still have to get to today.
• 29:08
Speaker 3: We have one final person that I wanted to bring
• 29:10
Speaker 3: in here, and that is the Mayor of the City
• 29:13
Speaker 3: of Charleston, Mayor Amy Shulter. Good One, Mayor good One,
• 29:17

• 29:20

Speaker 16: In honor of your belief in the power of radio
• 29:28
Speaker 16: and your customer focused approached to sales that help build
• 29:33

• 34:54

Speaker 4: This is really really neat.
• 34:57
Speaker 3: That would be Ken Tennant and his crew of pick

• 35:02
Speaker 3: and there's a few more that did this. Yeah, it's uh,
• 35:04
  Speaker 3: it's pretty good.
• 35:05
Speaker 4: Pretty So are we on video?

Speaker 3: No, we're not on video. Okay, we will be eventually,
• 35:09

• 35:11
Speaker 3: I appreciate you dressing up anyway. Oh and sure, I
• 35:13
Speaker 3: figured you probably head to the capital.
• 35:15
Speaker 4: I am all right.
• 35:16
Speaker 3: So what you mentioned it I did at the top
• 35:18
Speaker 3: of the uh. And you're you know, at top of
• 35:20
  Speaker 3: the statement, you're you're a very fit guy. I mean,
• 35:22
Speaker 3: I know you take care of it despite the fact
• 35:24
Speaker 3: you eat peanut butter fudge, but you also work out
• 35:26
Speaker 3: and do all that other stuff.
• 35:27
Speaker 4: I make it. I don't need a whole lot of it.
• 35:28
Speaker 4: I make it. I do sample it that that that
• 35:30
Speaker 4: you're supposed to do.
• 35:32
Speaker 3: What did you make of the RFK junior comments uh
• 35:36
Speaker 3: to Governor Morrissey and Martinsburg on Friday.
• 35:39
Speaker 18: Well, Uh, it's it's it's an interesting it's an interesting occurrence.
• 35:44
Speaker 18: I mean, look, uh, I thought the comments were a
• 35:48
Speaker 18: little I'll use an old fashioned word, they were a
• 35:50
Speaker 18: little uncouth. I think you should operate in maybe a
• 35:55
Speaker 18: little bit better social graces. But I have to hand
• 35:58
Speaker 18: it to Governor Morrisey. He took it in stride. I
• 36:02
Speaker 18: think he took it very well. But it's probably comments
• 36:06
Speaker 18: that should be saved for a private conversation. But on
• 36:11
Speaker 18: the other hand, the governor has gone public with his
• 36:15
Speaker 18: response to it, and I've noticed that he's been doing
• 36:17
Speaker 18: his mountaineer walk each day, and actually there's other people
• 36:20
Speaker 18: who are get involved in doing that, so I think
• 36:22
Speaker 18: that's good. I think I give credit to the governor
• 36:24
Speaker 18: for taking it in stride, because I thought some of
• 36:28
Speaker 18: RFK Junior's public comments quite frankly, they were a little
• 36:32
  Speaker 18: bit disrespectful.
• 36:33
Speaker 3: Well, and as I did a little davitatorial about this yesterday,
• 36:36
Speaker 3: you can check that out on Dave Island Radio and
• 36:38
Speaker 3: at Dave A seventy on X. You know, you don't
• 36:40
Speaker 3: know what went on behind the scenes. I mean, he
• 36:42
Speaker 3: could have told him, hey, I'm going to say this
• 36:45
Speaker 3: and you play along with it. You don't know what
• 36:47
Speaker 3: their relationship. I mean, people that would hear some of
• 36:50
Speaker 3: us in this building talking to each other will thank you.
• 36:52
  Speaker 12: Guys.
• 36:53
Speaker 3: People think Dave Wilson and I hate each other because
• 36:55
Speaker 3: the way we go back and forth, we're actually very
• 36:56
Speaker 3: good friends. So my point is is you don't always
• 36:59
Speaker 3: necessarily you know, know what goes into people's private relationships
• 37:04
Speaker 3: and whether they're able to you know, handle that sort
• 37:08
  Speaker 3: of thing.
• 37:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, I absolutely agree.

Speaker 3: Yes, but Dave Alan show on five Any Line Bright

• 37:20
Speaker 18: I do. You can follow it on, find it on
• 37:22

• 37:26
Speaker 18: about politics, faith, worldview issues, how our worldviews affect our politics,
• 37:32
Speaker 18: our culture, things like that. It's very popular. I have
• 37:35
Speaker 18: listeners all over the country. Most of them are in
• 37:37
Speaker 18: West Virginia, but I'm in like forty eight to fifty states,
• 37:40
Speaker 18: and so yeah, go look it up. It's it's fun.
• 37:43
Speaker 18: I'll be doing a show probably later today. We're gonna
• 37:46
Speaker 18: be it's gonna be very West Virginia centric talking about
• 37:48
Speaker 18: the legislature things like that. So yeah, viewpoint with Tony Hodge.
• 37:53
Speaker 3: I know this is going to be very unprofessional, but
• 37:55
Speaker 3: it's a way. Do do you see an extra telephone laying
• 37:57
Speaker 3: around over there anywhere zerophone in here. Joe pars is
• 38:00
Speaker 3: already showing his age with his retirement. He apparently lost
• 38:04
Speaker 3: his phone somewhere. So so we're looking for a let's see,
• 38:09
Speaker 3: I don't uh, I do I do not see it, Steve,
• 38:11
Speaker 3: I do not. I do not see it. Thank you,
• 38:13
Speaker 3: thank you very much. Right, we're looking for shows phone.

• 38:30
Speaker 3: What do you think?
• 38:31
Speaker 10: What do you think overall?
• 38:32
  Speaker 18: Well, you know it's you know, it's it's a session.
• 38:36
  Speaker 18: You know, it's a session. I mean there's been there's
• 38:38
Speaker 18: been some good things. Uh, there's been some foolishness. Now
• 38:41
Speaker 18: look foolishness. So look, I'm a political guy. You know
• 38:45
Speaker 18: when you invite me in, you're gonna get politics. You know,
• 38:47
Speaker 18: you have your other guests that talk about very good things.
• 38:50
Speaker 18: I'm gonna come on here and talk about politics, and
• 38:52
Speaker 18: that's why you invite me on. Yeah, there's been some foolishness.
• 38:54
Speaker 18: I mean some of the things that the Democrats are
• 38:56
Speaker 18: doing over there, uh just really just out. I don't
• 39:01
Speaker 18: want to call them liars, but but they're shirt certainly
• 39:04
Speaker 18: not being truthful in a lot of things that they
• 39:05
Speaker 18: say and do. For an example, Kaylee Young this past week,
• 39:09
Speaker 18: she's a delegate here in Kanaal County, she accused the
• 39:12
Speaker 18: Republican legislature of not voting to freeze electric rates, which
• 39:18
Speaker 18: isn't true. What they voted to not do was to
• 39:21
Speaker 18: discharge a bill out of committee. And discharging a bill
• 39:24
Speaker 18: out of committee is that's also uncouth. We'll use that
• 39:28
Speaker 18: word again. It's something that doesn't follow procedure. You want
• 39:30
Speaker 18: these bills to go through committee, to have the proper
• 39:32
Speaker 18: vetting that they do that they deserve, and discharge them.
• 39:36
Speaker 18: Discharging them straight to the floor is very very rare.
• 39:39
Speaker 18: It hardly ever happens. But she took to social media
• 39:44
Speaker 18: and implied something that wasn't quite true and said that
• 39:48
Speaker 18: the Republicans voted to not freeze rates.
• 39:50
Speaker 4: It's just not true.
• 39:50
Speaker 18: They voted to not discharge the bill, and so it's
• 39:53
Speaker 18: untruths like that that get the public confused and people
• 39:56
Speaker 18: only hear half truths or or not the truth at all,
• 39:59
Speaker 18: and it infuses people. And I think that's unfortunate because
• 40:02
Speaker 18: there is a lot of good things going on in
• 40:04
  Speaker 18: the legislature.
• 40:04
  Speaker 4: There's been a.
• 40:05
Speaker 18: Foster bill, a foster parent bill, excuse me, a foster
• 40:08
Speaker 18: care bill that was heavily debated on the floor last
• 40:13
Speaker 18: week and it passed. It's a really good bill. It's
• 40:15
Speaker 18: not a be a solve everything bill, but it's one step.
• 40:19
Speaker 18: You know, you have these bills that take steps in
• 40:21
Speaker 18: certain directions. We've had some economic development bills. We've got
• 40:24
Speaker 18: that short line railroad bill. I mean, there's been there's
• 40:28
Speaker 18: been several little things. There's not some big omnibus bill,
• 40:31
Speaker 18: but there's been several little things that have been really good.
• 40:34
Speaker 18: But you know, you're going to have the opposing political
• 40:36
Speaker 18: side put out silliness just to try to I guess,
• 40:41
Speaker 18: get headlines as what they're doing.
• 40:42
Speaker 3: Don't you think though, And I'm not going to try
• 40:44
Speaker 3: to put you in a bad position here, but I
• 40:46
Speaker 3: mean every session there's a little silliness on both sides.
• 40:50
Speaker 18: Well, you know, we're politicians and politicians have big egos.
• 40:55
Speaker 18: You wouldn't run for office if you didn't have a
• 40:57
Speaker 18: big ego exactly. And so you've got a hundred thirty
• 41:00
Speaker 18: four people down there, and they all think that their
• 41:02
Speaker 18: view is the right view. And so when you have
• 41:04
Speaker 18: that and you have all these different personalities, you know,
• 41:07
Speaker 18: you will get some silliness. But just the blatant lies
• 41:13
Speaker 18: that come from the left in this state that we
• 41:17
Speaker 18: see and I'm not just making this up. You can
• 41:19
Speaker 18: go to Kayla Young's her public Facebook page and she
• 41:21
Speaker 18: says what I just told the listeners, and so you
• 41:24
Speaker 18: can go look at it for yourself, and it's just
• 41:25
Speaker 18: not true. And so when you say things like that
• 41:28
Speaker 18: that aren't true, it confuses the public and it's just
• 41:31
  Speaker 18: not good.
• 41:32
Speaker 3: Talking again with Tony Hodge, Tech says, the GOP potus
• 41:37
Speaker 3: have perfected out right lies, let alone have truths.
• 41:42
Speaker 18: Well, I mean, I don't know that the texture would
• 41:45
Speaker 18: have to give a specific example. Look, everybody in politics,
• 41:49
Speaker 18: they're going to do things to promote their view of
• 41:53
Speaker 18: what they want to see done. But I mean, if
• 41:56
Speaker 18: a texture call it, you know, if they want to
• 41:57
Speaker 18: call intertext in and give a specific example, that's fine.
• 42:00
Speaker 18: But you know, this reminds me of what I see
• 42:03
Speaker 18: going on in politics.
• 42:04
  Speaker 4: It reminds me.
• 42:04
Speaker 18: You remember the old story of the blind men and
• 42:06
Speaker 18: the elephant, And so you have five or six blind
• 42:10
Speaker 18: men and you have an elephant in the room, and
• 42:12
Speaker 18: they go up to the elephant, and they'll touch each
• 42:14
Speaker 18: part of the elephant. And one blind man will touch
• 42:16
Speaker 18: the trunk and he'll say, oh, well, this is a
• 42:18
Speaker 18: this is a snake, This is a flexible snake. Another
• 42:20
Speaker 18: blind man will touch the leg and say, no, no,
• 42:22
Speaker 18: I think this is the trunk of a tree. And
• 42:25
Speaker 18: another blind man will touch the side of the elephant
• 42:26
Speaker 18: and say, no, this is a big, strong wall. And
• 42:29
Speaker 18: then another blind man will touch the tail and say, no, no,
• 42:32
Speaker 18: I think this is a rope. And then another one
• 42:34
Speaker 18: will touch the tusk and say, well, no, I think
• 42:35
Speaker 18: this is a spear. Well, they're all blind. The only
• 42:38
Speaker 18: person that has the full picture of what it actually
• 42:41
Speaker 18: is is the person who's not blind and can see
• 42:42
Speaker 18: the whole picture at once. And that's that it's an elephant,
• 42:45
Speaker 18: it's not all of these other things. And that's what
• 42:47
Speaker 18: I see going on in politics, especially on the democratic side,
• 42:49
Speaker 18: is they're giving the public only a partial truth and
• 42:53
Speaker 18: keeping them blinded to the full truth.
• 42:55
Speaker 3: Storright again with Tony Hodge. I want to remind you

• 46:08
Speaker 3: I've come in for you. Well, are you ready to go?
• 46:11
Speaker 3: Let's go, We'll do it, Deck, says Dave. A super
• 46:13
Speaker 3: duper majority leader is blaming the single Democrat for their
• 46:16
Speaker 3: inability to get anything done. Shows real leadership and integrity.
• 46:20
Speaker 3: Hopefully Kayla is enjoying the maggoteers this morning.
• 46:24
Speaker 18: Well look, I mean, this isn't the first time she's
• 46:28
Speaker 18: been dishonest this session. And you know, quite frankly, I've
• 46:31
Speaker 18: been pretty quiet about it because you know, you hate
• 46:34
Speaker 18: to just you hate to have to name names and stuff.
• 46:35
Speaker 18: But it's it's starting to compile, and so I just
• 46:38
Speaker 18: think it's as we can handle it. Talking about the supermajority. Look,
• 46:42
Speaker 18: we can handle it. Not only do we have I
• 46:44
Speaker 18: mean we have the numbers, we have the voters behind us.
• 46:47
Speaker 18: The thing that I'm concerned about is the public perception
• 46:50
Speaker 18: and this perception that they put out there that just
• 46:52
Speaker 18: is untrue. That's the part that really bothers me. The
• 46:54
Speaker 18: legislators can handle it, the governor can handle it. This
• 46:57
Speaker 18: you know, she's no problem, But it's the public. You know,
• 46:59
Speaker 18: you want the truth going out to the public, and
• 47:01
  Speaker 18: that's my concern.
• 47:02
Speaker 3: Well, in full disclosure, anytime I always offer voices on
• 47:06
Speaker 3: the other side. So anytime that the delegate young and
• 47:08
Speaker 3: she's a regular on the show, is we'll always welcome
• 47:10
Speaker 3: on the show to refute anything you say.
• 47:12
Speaker 18: Yeah, Now, in all fairness, and I will tell you this,
• 47:14
Speaker 18: in all fairness, I'll talk about her public positions.
• 47:18
  Speaker 19: Her.
• 47:18
Speaker 18: As a person, I like, I've sat down, we've eaten together,
• 47:22
Speaker 18: not alone, but you know with the other people, I guess,
• 47:26
Speaker 18: and so as a person I like her, and we've
• 47:30
Speaker 18: always been very kind and polite to one another. But
• 47:32
Speaker 18: you know, when you're a public official and you put
• 47:34
Speaker 18: out public statements. You know, it's open, and those are
• 47:37
Speaker 18: public statements that I thought were very dishonest and I
• 47:39
  Speaker 18: don't like them.
• 47:40
Speaker 3: Texas Dave Tony's right. The Democrats have been lying for
• 47:43
Speaker 3: years of voters are sick of this, and that's why
• 47:45
Speaker 3: the Democratic Party is done in our states.
• 47:47
Speaker 4: Well, it's easy, I mean, the evidence is all around us.
• 47:50
Speaker 18: West Virginia forcefully rejects the Democratic Party mantra.
• 47:54
Speaker 4: They reject their party platform.
• 47:56
Speaker 18: I mean, the only place that the Democratic Party even
• 47:58
Speaker 18: has a slight foothold is in the county that we're
• 48:00
Speaker 18: sitting in right now, in Kanawa, and maybe a little
• 48:02
Speaker 18: bit around the university up in Mond County, and that's
• 48:05
Speaker 18: about it. Everywhere else they're completely and totally rejected. So again,
• 48:09
Speaker 18: we're not afraid of them. We're not scared of them,
• 48:10
Speaker 18: but we do want the truth going out to the public.
• 48:12
Speaker 3: Text says Wow, a Trump supporter calling out Dams for lying.
• 48:15
Speaker 3: That is truly rich, says a texture tex shows anything
• 48:20
Speaker 3: going on with the teachers. I've seen where they suspended
• 48:22
Speaker 3: the rules to move bills out of committee that should
• 48:25
Speaker 3: have been dad. Some shady crap coming down close to
• 48:28
Speaker 3: the last days tex says the Senate is our only
• 48:31
Speaker 3: defense against the guy from New Jersey. That brings me
• 48:34
Speaker 3: to my next point. We've heard that term thrown out there,
• 48:37
Speaker 3: the gentleman from the Jersey by Republicans that have said that,
• 48:40
Speaker 3: that have said that you're worried about any division between
• 48:44
Speaker 3: the governor versus the legislature.
• 48:47
Speaker 18: Well, it would be silly for me to come on
• 48:50
Speaker 18: here and say that there's not people who have issues,
• 48:54
Speaker 18: because clearly there are and it's in the public. But
• 48:56
Speaker 18: I will say, going back to my earlier comment, this
• 48:58
Speaker 18: is politics, and politics is a place for big time egos,
• 49:01
Speaker 18: and you have people who think that their way is
• 49:03
  Speaker 18: the right way.
• 49:04
  Speaker 4: But what I.
• 49:04
Speaker 18: Would encourage in what I what I strongly even uh
• 49:09
Speaker 18: practice myself, is a level of respect. You know, on
• 49:14
Speaker 18: all sides. I think, I think all sides deserve that
• 49:17
Speaker 18: the legislature deserves their due respect, and the governor deserves
• 49:21
  Speaker 18: his due respect.
• 49:22
Speaker 4: And I think when when our.
• 49:24
Speaker 18: Public officials get their egos out of the way and
• 49:27
Speaker 18: put the people of West Virginia first, the right solutions
• 49:30
Speaker 18: and the right uh avenues will be followed in order
• 49:35
Speaker 18: to do what's best for West Virginia.
• 49:36
Speaker 4: So put the people first, and you're always going to
• 49:38
Speaker 4: be on the right side.
• 49:39
Speaker 3: Texas, Dave, do we do we know the bills were
• 49:41
Speaker 3: passed that the majority of the people were against. This
• 49:43
Speaker 3: was done by Republicans. It's all about them and not
• 49:47
  Speaker 3: about the people.
• 49:48
Speaker 18: I don't understand that comment. I mean, how does this
• 49:50
Speaker 18: person know that the majority of people were against a
• 49:53
Speaker 18: certain bill. I mean, that's just an anecdotal comment. I mean,
• 49:55
Speaker 18: give me some give me some evidence. But we have
• 49:58
Speaker 18: we have elected a legis and they in our republic,
• 50:02
Speaker 18: and in our republic they represent the views of the people.
• 50:05
Speaker 18: If you don't like what they're doing, you know, you're
• 50:07
Speaker 18: certain you have the right to speak your voice at
• 50:11
Speaker 18: the ballot box. But we've been doing this at the
• 50:12
Speaker 18: ballot box now since twenty fourteen, and each time the
• 50:15
Speaker 18: Republican majority is growing and growing.
• 50:18
Speaker 3: And there's no sign. I mean, if you look at
• 50:20
Speaker 3: it from a political standpoint and well, step away from politics,
• 50:25
Speaker 3: if you just let's look at the movement now, I understand.
• 50:28
Speaker 3: But if you try to be objective about it, there
• 50:30
Speaker 3: is no way this is changing anytime soon. Oh no,
• 50:32
Speaker 3: there's no way. And even on the national front, I mean,
• 50:38
Speaker 3: the DIM's got a lot of issues. I mean, they
• 50:39
Speaker 3: really really not saying the Republicans don't. But the DIM's
• 50:42
Speaker 3: got a lot of issues. And this red wave that
• 50:45
Speaker 3: started before Donald Trump is it's not going to go
• 50:48
Speaker 3: away anytime soon in my opinion.
• 50:50
Speaker 18: Well, and I don't want to get out ahead of
• 50:52
Speaker 18: my skis or get too puffed up here. But you know,
• 50:54
Speaker 18: I look here in this room and I see you.
• 50:56
Speaker 18: There's TJ who's stepped in over here. He's going to
• 50:58
Speaker 18: chime in in just a minute. I look over here
• 51:00
Speaker 18: and see the producer, all of us sitting in this room.
• 51:03
Speaker 18: This will be a Republican state for the rest of
• 51:05
  Speaker 18: our lives.
• 51:06
Speaker 3: That's a fact I would agree with that. Let me
• 51:08
Speaker 3: bring in TJ Meadows.
• 51:10
  Speaker 4: TJ.
• 51:11
Speaker 3: Of course we talk line. We're about to wrap up
• 51:12
Speaker 3: the show. You agree with Tony Hodge's statement.
• 51:15
Speaker 22: Yeah, certainly in my lifetime. They have a long way
• 51:18
Speaker 22: to go. The Dems have a long way to go.
• 51:19
Speaker 22: I've said, if the Democrats want to get pace and
• 51:22
Speaker 22: get some traction in this state, they'll become uber focused
• 51:26
Speaker 22: on business and economic development, which you know moderate conservatives
• 51:29
Speaker 22: like myself are really focused on. That's their role. If
• 51:32
Speaker 22: they want to take it. That's their way to gain
• 51:34
Speaker 22: voter share. In my opinion, I don't know if they'll
• 51:35
Speaker 22: take it or not. Do you think I'm not think
• 51:37
Speaker 22: that it's both of these questions we wrap up. I asked
• 51:39
Speaker 22: this question on the state wide show Cheap Plug.
• 51:41
Speaker 3: Metro News Midday with Amanda Baron and myself powered by
• 51:44
Speaker 3: Selango Law. Coming up noon to three today, is the
• 51:47
Speaker 3: modern Is the classic West Virginia Democrat dead?
• 51:51
  Speaker 2: Yes?
• 51:52
Speaker 18: Yes, I mean not literally dead, but that ideology is dead.
• 51:56
Speaker 4: It's gone. It won't come back in our life.
• 51:58
Speaker 3: But I was talking about the old school Democrats, the
• 52:00
Speaker 3: more conservative Democrats. Is that movement totally dead? Yeah, it's over.
• 52:04
  Speaker 3: It's over.
• 52:04
Speaker 4: Their Republicans now our number show TJ real quick.
• 52:07
Speaker 22: Give me ten seconds. Not If they focus on what
• 52:08
Speaker 22: I said, then they have a way forward. But if
• 52:11
Speaker 22: they don't, yeah, they're dead. All right, Tony, Always pleasure
• 52:14
Speaker 22: to have you in here.
• 52:15
Speaker 3: Thanks for the fuddy joy, thanks for the just don't
• 52:17
  Speaker 3: don't tell RF T right, we'll keep a secret.
• 52:19
Speaker 4: We don't want you shamed, all right.
• 52:21
Speaker 3: Coming up on the show tomorrow.
• 52:23
  Speaker 22: Uh.
• 52:23
Speaker 3: The ongoing issues with traffic and construction in Kanas City
• 52:27
Speaker 3: seem to be getting a little bit better. We're gonna
• 52:29
Speaker 3: talk to counsel with Chad Robinson about that happy retirement.
• 52:32
Speaker 3: Joe Parsons, I'll see at noon today. So then have
• 52:34
Speaker 3: fun and love somebody, don't.
• 52:49
  Speaker 17: You see it?
• 52:49
