- 0:01No time like the present. Dirty bicycles ride.
- 0:12[rock music] Probably oughta mention once in a while that that's Problem Child, ladies and gentlemen, doing that riffy, riffy. Problem Child. It goes like this.
- 0:30[rock music] Oh. When you gotta go bend it. What? Oh, those are the goodnesses. Hey, everybody, Full Spectrum Cycling, 322nd edition. Oh, that's- As far as, you know. Yeah, that's the skull and bones number. Ooh.
- 0:46Secret number. The year BCE 30, 322. Don't know anything about that. The- Do explain... of Demosthenes. [laughs] Chlo- Chlo- Chl- Chlamydius thetheses.
- 1:02The death, [laughs] the death year of the Greek orator Demosthenes. Okay. In the 322 BCEs or- Yes... yeah, okay. Marked the end of Athenian democracy and the rise of plutocracy. Oh, right on. So the more you know.
- 1:16The more you know. Well, it, your, uh, classical civilization education comes in pretty handy right there. Every so often. I mean, you can flex that tiny muscle a little bit. Do-do-do-do-do-do. Sha, na, na, na, hey.
- 1:29Good night sweetheart. Oh, ooh, ah, ooh, ah. Or, or- I like Bowser... [laughs] I always like Bowser. Who doesn't like Bowser? Bowser. And he's hilarious. He's a very opinionated politician. Is he still- On the Twitter...
- 1:42is he, is he still with us? Oh, yes. Right on. Yeah. He's, uh, he's quite a voice. Excellent. You know who's not with us anymore? Uh. Old Bob Redford there. Oh, yes. Bob. Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:53You know, everybody had the remembrances of him and how great he was, which I'm sure is true because it, it, there's just too many people saying that he was an awesome dude.
- 2:02Uh, but what I did notice was there were a lot of photos of him riding bicycles. Nice. Quite a few. Quite many. And, uh, w- Not jumping off damn cliffs with Paul Newman? No. Damn. [laughs] Well, in, in Butch Cassidy.
- 2:15Right. [laughs] Yeah, maybe. But, uh, yeah, so, and un, you know- Yeah... unfortunate, he did such a lot of good stuff, especially after he was basically not acting anymore, with the Sundance and the- True...
- 2:26and all that good stuff, baby. And helping the environment and- Yeah... whatever, and popping his head up every so often. Yep. Like in the 1991-ish- Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah... Sneakers. Good movie. Oh, yeah.
- 2:39Right, yeah. Yeah, that was pretty good. Sid, yeah, he had Sidney Poitier himself, uh, River Phoenix, uh, Bill Murray from, uh, Groundhog Day. [laughs] Bill Murray, Tablonsky. [laughs] Yeah.
- 2:52Sneakers was sort of a hacker movie, wasn't it, kinda? Yeah. Yeah. Kinda. Yeah. I kinda remember it. I've been...
- 2:57Well, after hearing of his passing, I was like, "Oh, everyone wants to watch this, The Sting or Butch Cassidy or something like that." Which was a very good movie. I'm like, I want, I'm like, "I wanna see Sneakers again.
- 3:06I haven't seen that damn movie for a little while." And of course, it's hard to find anything. It's like all the streaming- Um... platforms, no. They turn- Maybe not even Tubi? 'Cause in Tubi- No... Tubi's the hub to be.
- 3:17Tubi, Tubi fare. Yeah. Um, it's possible and probable, I'll say that. Yeah, just like- 'Cause even when, I mean, I'm just looking it up, going like, "It's not streaming or not available."
- 3:27But then again, you just go to YouTube on occasion and just... [laughs] I remember- Just check it and it's like, "Oh, wow, you do have a copy of this. That's cool."
- 3:37I remember having to watch, like, I don't know what- It's at one and a third speed, so it's a little bit quicker, so- Right... da-da-da-da-da-doo, you know? So it doesn't get caught or something. Yeah, exactly.
- 3:45I remember having to watch, like, a whole movie, but, like, eight minutes at a time. [laughs] So you'd be like, you know- Yeah. Yep... it's, it's just like that would get- This part. Yeah. And then that part.
- 3:55And then part 47, and you're finally done. But it's like, no, you missed like five minutes. There was good exposition in there. [laughs] It really tied the movie together and you're, "Ugh."
- 4:04Just like that rug in- I'm telling you... Lebowski's living room. Weekend were made for, uh, bashing at, uh, Garibaldi this past weekend. Indeed. Yes, yes, yes. I see you are sporting the non-sausage casing shirt.
- 4:19Yes, yes. See, this is swimmier than the- Yeah... uh, the, the picture from last year's. Is that, uh, is that an XL? Yes. I hope it shrinks a little bit. I know. It is a bit swimmy. Uh, is it- But I don't mind it.
- 4:31It is kind of like a muumuu. All transistors to full, all receivers to boost. This is Milwaukee calling. This is Milwaukee calling. Milwaukee calling. And then on the back... Oh, let me spin. Is it- How do I spin?
- 4:42Is that all the, "In memory of Nate Rader and Rick B.
- 4:46The bands were The Dirty Suite, M545, The Quills, Gorilla Ghost, The Mod Violets, Electricity Kills, Black Belt Theater, Sarah Lynn Huss, and Andrew Lloyd Webber Band." [laughs] Yes. I know. It's- What, what is it now?
- 5:01I'm not... Andrew David Webber. There we go. Um- So I'm going to see tonight, uh, Whiskey of the Damned. He's a member of Whiskey of the Damned. Where's the Damned Whiskey people? The, one of the last Harley bike nights.
- 5:12At a Harley? Yeah. At the museum outside. Going there after the show? Uh- Or is that during the next- Tomorrow... tomorrow. To- today, tomorrow. T- Today... Thurs- Today you-... Thursday... posting day... posting day.
- 5:24Wow. Posting day. My, my internet time is, is, is wonky. Which is also New Rock or the 102.1- Uh... final party thing down at the Deer District, but- That sounds like maybe should be a gotten to business. I don't know.
- 5:39I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Well, at least Whiskey of the Damned. Yes. Yeah. I mean, this is kinda in, on, en route to. I'm just, yeah. I may just park over by Duck's and walk over and be like, "Okay. Yeah.
- 5:53No. Mm-hmm." [laughs] Oh, there you are, Kenny Newman. [laughs] Yes. See some Nemesi. Oh, boy. Oh, shit. You know who probably'll fucking be there? Just thought of this. Cramp. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. He's...
- 6:10So it's Adler that's on, uh- Adler's 889. 889. I had no problem with Adler. Yeah, yeah. No. They were- Yeah... just together. I mean, he was guilt by association for a while there, but- Sure...
- 6:18yeah, I'm a, I'm an adult, I'm a professional, I'll rise above it. So at- You gotta keep your one grudge in focus. At the- [laughs] At, at the tr- at, at the Trummer Fest, Strummer Fest, what was...
- 6:32Did you have a favorite performance? No, no, not really. Um, I mean, I really liked The Quills- Yeah... at the end. Just, I mean, they just have a killer take on anything they really do.
- 6:42It's, they're, they're a, a unique- I mean, even their r- originals are unique- Yeah... and cool. They're unique, and that's, you don't get that a lot anymore. Yeah. Not- And-... formulaic so much.
- 6:51And so when they do a cover, it's not just a, a legion cover as such. It's- I, I mean, it's close sometimes. But I mean, they'd like to do, uh, Fade to Black by freaking Metallica. Nice. You know?
- 7:03Yeah, I- And it makes me go like, "Oh, hey- I-... this is off that Black Album where everything started to fall apart." I could see him getting a little frustrated- [laughs]...
- 7:10'cause he couldn't get the vocals going in the beginning, but he was a professional and he got them working. Yeah. Well, they're fu- they're fun to watch live, um, especially in different venues.
- 7:19Normally, if it's a little smoky, you know, a little more atmospheric- Yeah... you don't really notice the, uh, maca- machinations at times. Yeah. Well, I did notice that Becky got much more into it by the last song.
- 7:31Mm-hmm. She was kind of standing there in the first couple, and then she got into the, the ooh. Right. Yeah. Yeah. It was good.
- 7:39So, um, uh, on MSC, uh, yesterday or two days ago or whatever, before we're talking now, uh, the Dirty Suite were the local live, and they talked about Strummer Fest a little bit. And, uh,
- 7:56they had mentioned that, uh, you know... Or the question came up about, you know, oh, does everyone kind of get together and talk about, um, you know, oh, well we're doing this song. You know, don't do that song.
- 8:07Doesn't sound like it because- Right. Well, and Scotty, uh, Kalinich, one of the organizers, um, had said, he's like, "No, no, it's kind of cool that you get, you know, hey, this is this band's take, vision- Sure...
- 8:24of this tune." And it really did work that way. Yeah, I thought so too. Wendy's, uh, Wendy made it, which was- Yeah... awesome. Uh, her favorite song was- Kim was a leaker. [laughs] Kim was a leaker, apparently.
- 8:35She was halfway there. Oh, halfway there. I'm gonna take a bus down there. Uh, Wendy's favorite Clash song is Bankrobber, which- Yeah... I heard at least twice. Yes. I think it was only twice. Yeah. Maybe a third.
- 8:49Maybe, maybe. Yeah. That was, that, and that was good. Yeah. I, I very much enjoy M545 just 'cause- Well, and-... Juan is so energetic... an- and animated. Yeah. Yeah. He just- And just, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo...
- 9:00I was trying to catch him- Yeah... jumping like the old Pete Townsend thing- Yes... 'cause he's jumping. I'm like- He does, yeah... I'm just gonna take a- There's opportunity for it...
- 9:07I'm just gonna take a video and try and crop a frame out of it because it can't be like doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo. I, I understand. Well, and Tishler was out there for- That's true...
- 9:16the beginning of it, and that's what kind of threw me. I was like, all right. Now, I mean, 'cause all, a lot of those bands were very cross-pollinated. Oh, yeah.
- 9:23There was members in, like, Electricity Kills and Mod Violets. Yes. Uh- This is true... the Russ. The bass- And, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so it was- Things of that nature... sure. Which is awesome.
- 9:34But here's the deal about Strummer Fest, and it's been going on now for what? At least- Four... four years? [laughs] I was gonna say more. But the deal- It feels like it, but it's- But the-... only been four...
- 9:44and, and, okay. And it's a good thing. It's raising money for the Milwaukee Public Schools' music programs. Yep. Which- All of it goes there...
- 9:52no thanks to some people, are not getting funded like they should because apparently the arts don't matter anymore. But in this case, they do, and they, and they raise a good chunk of change I'm sure. Yes. Yeah.
- 10:05But- That's why I wasn't really sweating, like, oh, I, I, you know- I was, I was-... if I were to pre-bought, I could have, uh, I could have got the shirt- Right... and the ticket for $30. Uh- Yeah.
- 10:16But, but it wasn't like that money is going into some nefarious pocket, like a- Right, like a new Corvette outside the house. Right. No. Uh, yeah. So it was like, okay, paid t- $10 more. Yeah.
- 10:2620 for the ticket, 20 for the- Right... shirt. Okay. But it's going to the good things. There, a good rationalization. But with respect to all of the bands cross-pollinating somewhat,
- 10:38they will not have a band back that has done it before. So if you're Juan, maybe you're gonna come back with the DUIs, but you're not coming back with M545 or something. But- Right...
- 10:50they, you know, it's like, yes, the same people or some of the same- Yeah... people will play again, but it will not be the same lineup in that particular band. So far. So that's what's, that's- I'm just saying...
- 10:59well, it's the edict, but maybe it will be. Yes. I mean, there's gonna be a point where- Well [laughs]... you're just gonna be like, or like- Well, it's kind of-... or you just come up with a fake damn name- Yeah.
- 11:07I know... where everyone knows, and it's like, well, yeah. Uh- This is the super group. [laughs] It's like the Traveling Wilburys, the traveling Strummer Berries. The Traveling Wildebeests.
- 11:18Uh, here's some, uh, here's some cycling news for y'all. Hey, finally there. Well- Well, we rode our bikes there. We did. So that's what the- We did ride our bikes down there.
- 11:26That was a, that was a good, a good trip down there. Indeed. And I got back at late, 1:30 in the AM or some such. [laughs] Yeah. Well, I was about an hour behind. Yeah. On that one. Yes.
- 11:37I sort of, uh, left you at Vegas and said- Yeah... "Bye." No, that was cool. I mean- Yeah... you know, I, yeah- Well, you're a b- you're a big boy. Oh, yeah. You can get yourself home. Yeah. It worked out, it worked out.
- 11:46Uh, so SwRVE, I don't... Nope, I don't have any on today, but SwRVE is one of my favorite cycling clothing companies. And for the last y- year-ish, they've been winding down to go to close the business.
- 12:01They've been doing it for 20 years. They've been making kickass clothing. A lot of things came into the deal where they're like, "We're kind of done with this." But now they found a buyer. Yeah. All right.
- 12:11So there will be a new Swerve owner, which I think is somebody they already know, so I think basically the- The brand will not be sullied... the, the, right. The, the, the sort of the, the mission of it will continue.
- 12:24There will be more to come because we don't have any exact details yet, but if you're a Swerve fan and you really like their p- I love their pants. They're very nice. Especially if you, uh- [laughs]
- 12:37Especially if you don't- Oh, it was just taken out of context. Yeah If you just like, voot. [laughs] I like those pants. Um, I like those pants. [slurping] And they just make good clothes, and i- it's great.
- 12:48So let's see what goes, what goes there, what goes on there, over there [laughs] at, at that place. What goes on? Out there in the, uh, wherever the heck they are. Uh, did we already get there? Well, I kind of did.
- 13:03No, well- No, not, not yet... not, okay. Well, let's... Ah. Ah. There it is. Ladies and gentlemen. Quick top of the hill. JK picked up the handcrafted happiness today. Handcrafted happiness. This is a collabe.
- 13:20Yes, a Green Bay in Milwaukee. The Gold Package Golden Lager. Collaboration with Green Bay's Badger State Brewing. Is that something new or n- I feel like I've seen it before. It, it doesn't seem like they have...
- 13:33Well, I, okay, that logo they do have. Um- Well, it's in- Yeah, I think we've had this before... it's obviously- Or not this, but we've had something from Badger State. It's in Green Bay. Yeah.
- 13:41Well, just Lakefront's been around so- But I mean, it's a, it's a- So who's the OG in this, in this relationship? Out of these two? I would say Lakefront. I'd say Lakefront.
- 13:49Since they've been around since- Well, yeah, it's got, it's-... '80, '83 or whatever... they're using some of their ca- cannery. That's what the wrap... That's why they got the wrap. Brr. I put it all together now.
- 13:57Brr, what's up boy? Checking it out now. Era, era, era. Know what I'm saying? Know, know what I'm saying? So it is a very smooth, actually easy drinking beer, although somewhat foamy when you open it. [laughs] Yes.
- 14:10And I wasn't all jostly, jostly bringing it over here. It's a- Not too bad anyways... it's a 5.4%. I'm looking at the side of the box here. Yeah. It's a, it's a very drinkable... It doesn't taste like 5.4.
- 14:20It tastes like just dad beer. Yeah. Kind of like dive beer in a way. Yeah. Except a little- A little more-... ABV-ier-ier. [phone ringing] Toothsome? [phone ringing] Oh, oh. Oh, did you get seven, 8,500, uh, steps?
- 14:35That would be Ken Keene calling. I'm not going to answer Ken Keene right now. Is that locked? I hope he's, "No, you..." Da, da. Is it locked? Uh- I know I got locked out when I went to the little boy's room... yeah.
- 14:48[laughs] I have no idea. We'll find out soon. We'll find out soon. [laughs] Hey, coming up Sunday. Sunday, Sunday, Sunday. It's the slow roll. It will get really slow. I, I- Oh... I'm, I'm of a mind to do it.
- 15:05I am of, of a mind to cruise down there to, yeah. Venture in the area. To start, and- To check it out... and, and, and then, and then see if they do actually take over Lake Memorial.
- 15:18[laughs] That one, it kind of- Which would, which would make sense... kind of, sort of happened last year. Well, it had to. I mean- 20- But they, they-... it was 2,000 peoples or something... it's, I, I, I don't know.
- 15:28It was a lot. I don't know if they're mentally bu- I, I think they mentally just kind of build that in that, oh, some people will start doing it. Cars will just chill out and let it pass. Yeah.
- 15:39It's one, it's one half hour of your whole year. Give it a, give it a rest, peoples. Yeah. So, um- That's, that starts down at the War Memorial. It begins at like around 9:00 for the gathering.
- 15:51Do we have to do the circle thing again? Oh, the, the, the photo? Yeah. So, so are we gonna be- No. No, no, no. No. Yeah. No. No, no. Yes.
- 15:59Yeah, 'cause I think on one of those years we looked like the little wart coming off the peace sign. [laughs] Yeah, almost.
- 16:04It was like a peace sign and there was like, they couldn't corral in this one little pimple on the bottom. Yeah. On the butt. I th- On the butt of the, the circle... and I think, I think we were part of that.
- 16:12I c- I wanna believe we were, albeit that I was... I don't take well to people... [laughs] Get behind the little piece of f- Ah. Ah, hey, you go fuck yourself. Whoa. Yeesh. So that's Slow Roll. That's coming up Sunday.
- 16:28What are you, what are you doing? Paying for the- What are we at, 17, 18, 19, 20?... the drone, the drone from a minute? That's the 21st of September. I did that math on my fingers right there. Mm-hmm. So Sunday,
- 16:39down by the War Memorial slash Milwaukee Art Museum slash Calatrava slash... Yeah. The rollout is about 10:00 AM-ish. I dig it. Something like that. We'll, we'll, we'll do that. We'll see what's up with that.
- 16:51If I am in any way, shape or... I wanna stay kind of late at the Bay View Bash on the Saturday. Ooh. And I, I want to ride down- Bay View Bash... town, but I might not ride down. I don't know.
- 17:02It's one of those I'm, I, I'm, I'm in the air, I'm up in the air on these two things. Well, there, there's weather coming into the city. Let's- Oh, I haven't even thought about that part... there's weather coming.
- 17:10Let's see what the weather looks like. But Abby Jean and the Shadow Band is 9:30- Yeah... at one of the stages. That was one of the things.
- 17:14And that is the des- that's a good destination, 'cause they were fucking, they really ripped it at, uh, Chill on the Hill this year. And- Awesome... seeing them, yeah, in a, in that element would be [clicks tongue]
- 17:28awesome. Right on. I gotta point this thing out just 'cause I'm- It's got the gold star from JK... I'm looking at it. What, the prop? The reach for the prop. Well, it's just that I have this- Uh-oh...
- 17:39really nice flashlight. It's a, [sniffs] it's a tactical flashlight. I thought it was a scope. I'm like- It's-... too soon, sir. Too soon... oh, it's just so bright. Look how... Oh, I just, I just burned my retinas out.
- 17:52But what is really cool is it's just a flashlight that I use for camping and other things. Mm-hmm. Goes on top of my rifle in case I need to do some stuff. But I found this little gizmo on-
- 18:03Oh, that is like a helm- or, uh- I found this on, uh, i- it just was on Amazon. It is by D Lite. This is like an $8 gizmo[sings] That hooks your flashlight on your handlebar. It's clev- look at it.
- 18:17It's clever Yeah, that's why I, I looked at 'em, I know I mean, yeah, I, I... It's not so much about the flashlight, which is, uh, this is an, oh, what do they call it? A NiteCore. Oh, wow. Oh, it's still on.
- 18:29[laughs] Oh. [laughs] Oh, yes. [laughs] Oh, no. Stop. Stop it. Oh, geez. Okay, now. Hi. [laughs] Okay. That's, like, the third sun I've seen today. Oh. Um, it's a NiteCore. It's very bright. Yes.
- 18:45Um- Yes, like, we can, I can, I can attest to the- [laughs] I wanted to have a-... splatter pattern- [laughs]... I'm seeing right now I like blinking my eyes really fast- It looks like, yes...
- 18:54and then you see it more often. Yeah, it looks like the Astral Hand, uh, uh, piece of vinyl you have. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, that, it doesn't have to go with this NiteCore.
- 19:03[laughs] Anything that's got an approximately, you know, 7/8, 1" diameter kind of deal, that thing'll work for, which means you either have a spare light if your light runs out, 'cause it's...
- 19:12Not actually concerned about it during the, uh, the full moon beach ride, but it sure would've been nice to have it on the way back from Strummer Fest, 'cause I did [laughs] forgot my lights. Ah, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 19:24Totally forgot my lights. Yeah, it worked out fine. Yeah, it was- We, we took the-... pretty bright in the city. Yeah. We took the r- relatively lit path back. Yeah. Living in the city.
- 19:35Well, yeah, the, and, and that, uh, what do you call it, the Van Buren devoted two-way bike lane. Boy, that's got me- It's got... I, I'm conflicted. I am. Yeah. I, I liked, uh, the, I like the spirit- Yes...
- 19:48in which it was... Yeah. I just don't like the right hook that can come almost at any time. Yes. Yeah. Because- I mean, you got, it's, y- you're not that insulated. No, you are not. You're, you're kind of insulated.
- 20:00Especially, like, going into driveways, they'll just, like, blast right in front of you or- And it's wide enough that there'll be a car- Yep... there, in there. Yes.
- 20:09Normally in front of the tail- the car tailoring place, or detailing place. Oh, yeah, Metro. Right there. Yeah. Normally. There. [laughs] So last week- Normally. Exactly...
- 20:20last weekend, besides all the fun stuff that happened here, there's some other fu- fun stuff happened there, there being- Over there... there being- Over there...
- 20:28up in, uh, Cable/Hayward/Seely, Wisconsin was the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival and its associated 40-mile race. Nice. I watched it on the YouTube, and the link is in the show notes.
- 20:44It's about 18 minutes long, just kind of coverage of it. It's different than when I did it back in 1990s. [laughs] Back in my day. It's, it's not, that's not really the same.
- 20:56Uh, also these guys are, and gals, are so much faster than the olden times. But there's some pretty good coverage.
- 21:03If you wanna know who does, uh, that kind of lifetime race series Grand Prix stuff, you might wanna check that out. It's in the show notes. I got Fatbike.com news too. Oh. Remember that place? Yeah. I, that's all right.
- 21:17Fatbike Do- remember that guys, those guys? It lives in the corners of my mind.
- 21:21Uh, well, things are coming around because we're coming on the season again after, you know, you know, kinda not saying struggling through the summer. We had some beach stories. We had some stuff. Mm-hmm.
- 21:31We did a few reviews of things. But, uh, recently Otso gave us a shout, and, uh, Mr. Seely Dave threw up a story r- about new colorways, which is fine, because one of them is really cool for sure.
- 21:44Two of them are pretty cool. Actually, they're all pretty cool. There's a little article about the new colorways, but the, the upshot of this is that at some point we're getting one of these Otso Voytek 2s for reviews.
- 21:57Mm. And it's, it's such a unique bike because it's not, it's not. [laughs] You're out with your honey and your nose feels runny. No, it's- That's not funny. That's not... it's not. Anyway, uh- Sh-...
- 22:11they, they've made some cool design choices, A, to get a narrower Q factor, if you're not into that, on a fat bike, which personally I don't mind.
- 22:19In fact, when I ride a non-fat bike, I'm riding on, like, the edge of the pedals because my legs just naturally [laughs] go where the wide Q factor is.
- 22:27[laughs] But anyway, so to get a narrower Q factor, they use a narrow bottom bracket and they,
- 22:33you know, whatever, whatever, and they use a five-millimeter offset on their wheels, which is unusual, because I don't think anybody's ever done that before. Uh, Pugsley was 17 and a half. That made sense.
- 22:45And then the symmetrical ones were essentially the same thing, but they were symmetrical and blah, blah, blah. But anyway, these guys are pretty smart, and they got this chippy thing. They got a whole deal.
- 22:55It's, it goes like this, kinda like that. We could, we could- So that you can change the, the axle, uh, basically the chainstay length.
- 23:04Depending on the wheels you're using, you can change the handling of the bike, and all sorts of cool stuff. And they even have an adjustable headset thing, kinda does, does this thing, where you're going like, "Wow."
- 23:14Wow. Wow. Wow. Anyway, we're, we're gonna get one of them and we're gonna do some testing on it, and then we'll tell you fine people about it. That's what I'm saying about that. Yes. Yes, yes.
- 23:28I got something else to say about- I'm ex-... something else... I'm excited f- I'm excited for some snow. I know- I am... it's 80 degrees out here in fair Milwaukee. Ah, it's not gonna last for long.
- 23:36I know, and I'm, yeah, I'm just- You'll s-... I'm not gonna whine about it. I'm just- As I freshly shaved my damn head and I'm standing in the sun, so I'm probably got a little, little sun poisoning. [laughs] Yeah.
- 23:46So you'll have to forgive me. I'll tell you this. It's- I'm gonna get a lot of the goddamn problems... most definitely snowed somewhere in the world today, so- But, um-... that's good... yeah.
- 23:54Uh, no, just 'cause, uh, no. Uh, 'cause I got my fatty up and running and pretty dialed in right now. Good to go. And, yeah. I still have those studded tires that you used to use. [clears throat] They haven't gone away.
- 24:08Sure. Sure, sure, sure. Yeah, throw those things in there. Yeah. Those were, uh, those were, I think, one of the best. They were, I think they were called Escalators. It was a 45 North. They're 180 TPI.
- 24:20Can you believe it? Can you- And they're studded, baby. And, and, and not- I-... an aggressive stud. No. Just a good enough. Enough, enough, enough to make you feel confident enough upon slippery enough things.
- 24:33Good enough for who it's for. Aw. [laughs] You old honey dripper. All right. [laughs] Uh, more news about people bringing stuff back that went away and then came back. Kona, they're back.
- 24:46We n- I think we knew that the guys that started Kona bought the company back, but they're making a bigger deal about it now. Like, "Yes, we absolutely are back."
- 24:55And in going through their website and finding the new article on, "This is us, guys, we're back," only a month or so ago, somebody did a review or at least posted a review on the Kona Woo, which is a fat bike.
- 25:12So I sent them a note and I said, "You guys doing fat bikes again? 'Cause I'm looking at your website and there's only smalls left. So are you gonna bring back the Woo, is my question. And if you do,
- 25:26give us one so we can test that thing." You know who? Yeah. Woo. Woo. Woo. Uh, let's hope that that actually comes to pass. I, uh, been coming up with a, a story called When Did They Die?
- 25:41[laughs] It would be whatever fat bikes came out, especially from the Johnny come lately, let's jump on the train companies. But, oh, they came h- to the market in 2014. Scott Big Ed, did you come for the party? 2015?
- 25:58How long did you stay? Two years? Yeah. No. Bye. But there were so many. Cannondale. Mm-hmm. Fat Cad, here and then gone. You know? I don't know. And even Mongoose has got some staying power. [laughs] Right? For sure.
- 26:12Well- I mean, so there's, you know, there's... And, and I, it's been- That g- that grift hasn't shown its hand completely [laughs] out yet. Well, I mean- Well, it, you-... to, to be fair- You, you build a tank- Yeah...
- 26:24at an affordable price to the sucker that wants to buy it. I- Sorry. I believe it. Sorry, sucker. Yeah, I'm with you. But I'm like, I'm like- It's better- That just, that would make me not want to...
- 26:35that would be the short version. Yeah. Yeah. It's mostly put some good tires on there, it's probably just fine. It becomes slightly manageable. I remember one of these stories. Yep.
- 26:44Very vividly because it, I mean, it's close to, uh, Kim's bike, where it's like- Oh, well-... you can lighten it just as- Yeah... much as... And it is. It, but it- I think Kim, I think-... it's still chunky...
- 26:55I, I think the- It's still chunky... chunky monkey. Actually, State Bicycles has a decent aluminum fat bike now. The Megalith was okay, and th- what made it better was put...
- 27:04You had the f- we, you had a review bike for a while. Well, I had the Monolith. That's- The, the first one. Right. And that was heavier-er-er. And that was largely in part because those tires were so gruesome.
- 27:15Oh, [laughs] yeah, those were. But once we put better tires on, it kinda woke up. A bit, yeah. I forgot, what's Kim's called? It was a Megalith. Megalith. Not a Mo- Yeah... whatever.
- 27:26The Monolith was their first, Megalith was the second. Right. And now they have an aluminum one, which is, you know, thousand buck retail. It's not too bad. Take a look at it. I, they should still have some, I'd imagine.
- 27:35Hopefully. Uh, so I was saying about, uh, how the, the markets m- m- how the markets went, I mean [laughs]
- 27:44how the market's gone, is that we're kinda back to the olden times when good companies like Otso with the Voitahk and Surly with the stuff they do and stuff, and other things, is it's for people who are into it.
- 27:59You know? It's not for mass market. This isn't a mass market thing. It never was. And when you try and jump in as a mass market brand and flood the market,
- 28:07you're sitting on three-year-old product now or four-year-old product and trying to get rid of it and whoring it out like a bitch. So no. [laughs] No. [laughs] But I just wanna...
- 28:18I mean, it's worth finding out b- because I don't think brands are like, "No, we're not doing those anymore, but we still have like a thousand of them that we're gonna sell." Does that, is that disingenuous?
- 28:32Or are they just, you know... I mean, I guess, uh, I, I wish they'd be honest about it. It's like, "Yeah, we're gonna give it to you for a good price, but we're not gonna come back with any more." Right.
- 28:42Who knows these days? Or disassemble and just smelt it. Uh, I sent the Omnium, or am sending the Omnium Electric Minimax cargo bike down the road. It's a very sad day for me 'cause- Aw... I had- Aw.
- 28:58I really need to get some money in for the shop, but I also just love riding that bike so much. [laughs] I, I, it is- It is so choice. It is. And I mean, it's- If you have the means, I highly recommend it.
- 29:10Highly recommend it. Seeley Dave has a plan, uh, to, to do a fat bike version basically of an Omnium. I am 100% behind this [laughs] idea. Mm. Mm.
- 29:22We need to figure out how to make it go, but, uh, I don't know if it's grafting a new triangle on the back of the thing and getting a little 20-inch fork that can take a bigger tire.
- 29:30I don't know what it is yet, but it should be possible. It'd be like reverse, like reverse Lunds with the bob trailer. Yeah, could be. Reverse Lunsing.
- 29:39So reverse Lunsing, if you flipped it over on its axis and you put the bob in the front. Yeah. Ooh. [laughs] Whoa.
- 29:48What if you, what if you put a motor on that thing, like a hub motor, and it would just pull you along like, like Santa's reindeer? Yeah, like somebody w- you know, with their fingers- [laughs]...
- 29:56in your nostrils just dragging you along. Yeah. That would be good. On. [laughs] Come on, Rudolph, you can do it. [laughs] All righty then. I, I did, we talked about this last week. I just, I didn't have the link. Dr.
- 30:09Kevin Pereyuses-seses, ses, ziz, is the guy that was measuring airborne dust from the Great Salt Lake Playa on a fat bike. I th- was saying he was putting stuff in the ground.
- 30:21No, he's got a gizmo that measures the dust in the air because it's so dry that that stuff just gets riled up.
- 30:28And apparently there's heavy metals in there, and it's going over Salt Lake City, and people are like, "We don't want that, but our la- Oh...
- 30:33our lake is going down 'cause we're using too much water," and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Irritants of the nostrils is not my friendly friend. No, not at all. Damn, Utah. Damn, Utah.
- 30:44They're doing all kinds of weird things these days. All right, everybody. Uh, 3/23 next week. 3/23. I am- That was a really nice Mazda. It was a, uh, all-wheel drive. Oh yeah, it was half of a 626.
- 30:56Well, at least there was one that was an all-wheel drive semi-rally car version of the- I kept thinking-... the 323...
- 31:03in theory, oh, I'm like, oh, or somebody probably in my universe was like, "Ooh, it's like half of a 626." I'm like, "No, it wouldn't be." Not, not quite. Well, let- It just doesn't work that way.
- 31:14[laughs] That would be a 313. All right, everybody. This is us getting outta here. Bye.
- 31:22[upbeat music]
