- 0:55Speaker 2: right to your phone, tablet, or computer by subscribing wherever
- 0:59Speaker 2: you get your podcasts. It's the greatest thing since The
- 1:04Speaker 2: Art Thief. That's the name of a book that I
- 1:07Speaker 2: recently read in about three days because I could not
- 1:10Speaker 2: put it down. It was published in twenty twenty three,
- 1:14Speaker 2: so it's available in paperback and tells the true story
- 1:17Speaker 2: of one of the world's most prolific art thieves who
- 1:21Speaker 2: stole more than two hundred pieces of art worth billions
- 1:25Speaker 2: of dollars and basically did so in broad daylight. This
- 1:30Speaker 2: went on between nineteen ninety four and two thousand and one,
- 1:33Speaker 2: so frankly, I can't believe I'd never heard of the guy.
- 1:37Speaker 2: My wife read it first. She recommended it to me,
- 1:40Speaker 2: and I passed it on to our twenty year old son,
- 1:43Speaker 2: who also poured through it in a few days. If
- 1:46Speaker 2: you're looking for a great book that won't take long
- 1:48Speaker 2: to read, I highly recommend The Art Thief. Now let's
- 1:54Speaker 2: get to my first guest. The Bengals certainly put their
- 1:56Speaker 2: money where their mouth is when it comes to improving
- 1:59Speaker 2: the defense. Between free agents Brian Cook, boy A Mafe,
- 2:03Speaker 2: and Jonathan Allen, and the trade for Dexter Lawrence, the
- 2:06Speaker 2: Bengals added more than one hundred and ninety six million
- 2:09Speaker 2: dollars in projected spending. The first player they added on
- 2:14Speaker 2: the opening day of free agency was Cook, a safety
- 2:17Speaker 2: who grew up in Cincinnati. He'll replace Geno Stone in
- 2:21Speaker 2: the starting lineup and that should improve the Bengals tackling.
- 2:25Speaker 2: According to Pro Football Focus. Gino had twenty three missed
- 2:29Speaker 2: tackles last year, while Cook has had twenty two in
- 2:33Speaker 2: his first four NFL seasons. ESPN's Mina Kimes recently had
- 2:38Speaker 2: NFL analyst Bill Barnwell as a guest on her podcast,
- 2:42Speaker 2: and here's what Bill had to say about the addition
- 2:46Speaker 2: of Brian Cook. Brian Cook replacing Geno Stone as a
- 2:49Speaker 2: tackler is like the single biggest upgrade any team has
- 2:53Speaker 2: made at any position doing any.
- 2:55Speaker 1: One task this offseason.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Now time for my in depth conversation with a twenty
- 3:00Speaker 2: six year old budding star who was born and raised
- 3:03Speaker 2: in the Queen City. We are off the field and
- 3:06Speaker 2: on the spot with safety Brian Cook, who I first
- 3:09Speaker 2: met seven years ago. The last time you came home
- 3:13Speaker 2: from Howard University, did the University of Cincinnati. That worked
- 3:17Speaker 2: out incredibly well for you and you got a feeling
- 3:19Speaker 2: for what it was like to play in front of
- 3:21Speaker 2: friends and family. Did that have an impact on your
- 3:25Speaker 2: choice to come back as a free agent and play
- 3:28Speaker 2: for the Bengals.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I mean absolutely. You know, opportunity to play
- 3:31Speaker 3: in front of your loved ones is always a blessing.
- 3:34Speaker 3: I did at the collegiate level, you know, playing for
- 3:37Speaker 3: UC and then my profession level. I think, you know,
- 3:41Speaker 3: things a little bit, the stakes a little higher, said,
- 3:44Speaker 3: because you know, I came back home. Now I'm married
- 3:46Speaker 3: with two kids, so you know, having the opportunity for
- 3:49Speaker 3: my family that I'm creating to experience with family that
- 3:53Speaker 3: I was born in and came from, It's a markeable
- 3:58Speaker 3: opportunity for me. But not only that, my lady he's
- 4:01Speaker 3: she's from Jersey, so having her be able to see
- 4:04Speaker 3: her family too is a blessing. So it was a
- 4:07Speaker 3: right fit. I mean, at the same time, you know,
- 4:09Speaker 3: with that being said, like the organization, you know, obviously
- 4:12Speaker 3: they made a prior to come get me, so you
- 4:14Speaker 3: know I can't That was obviously I'd be done to
- 4:17Speaker 3: say no, you know what I'm saying. So it was
- 4:19Speaker 3: a I'm very excited, very I can't put into her.
- 4:25Speaker 3: I'm ready to get to work for sure.
- 4:26Speaker 2: What's the best part about being home free? Babysitting, familiarity
- 4:31Speaker 2: of where you're going, what is it?
- 4:33Speaker 4: I mean a little bit of everything, honestly.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I mean, I got grippos now I can't eat grips
- 4:38Speaker 3: when I want to, But yeah, not to. It's mainly everything,
- 4:43Speaker 3: you know, the family. It's to be very family oriented,
- 4:46Speaker 3: so on both sides. So being able to see her
- 4:50Speaker 3: family whenever, you know, we we wish or you know,
- 4:53Speaker 3: having cooked outs, things like that that we wasn't able
- 4:55Speaker 3: to get before. I feel like it's only I made alwayship,
- 4:59Speaker 3: strong girl. But at the same time, it made, you know,
- 5:01Speaker 3: us being parents kind of take it, take a breath
- 5:05Speaker 3: for a second. Okay, we're not you know, we're not.
- 5:08Speaker 3: We're doing the right thing. We're figuring things out. But
- 5:10Speaker 3: we realized this is how important family is. And then
- 5:12Speaker 3: now being here to provide and to help out my
- 5:17Speaker 3: family as well as playing in front of them, you know,
- 5:20Speaker 3: at a hometown it's man, it's literally I couldn't as
- 5:23Speaker 3: a kid, I couldn't dream as far from being honest
- 5:25Speaker 3: with you.
- 5:25Speaker 2: So when you played at uc they really tried to
- 5:28Speaker 2: play up that hometown angle for all of the guys
- 5:31Speaker 2: that were from Cincinnati. But is there something to that.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Does it feel differently to play for your hometown NFL team?
- 5:40Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 5:41Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I can't. I can't even find the words
- 5:45Speaker 3: right now. I'm still like in awe of it. But yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 3: it's a it's a different type of feeling. It's it's
- 5:53Speaker 3: something that I couldn't I couldn't fathom, I couldn't.
- 5:57Speaker 4: Ask God for because I wouldn't even know where to start.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Maybe moments that little things are kind of catching from
- 6:03Speaker 3: Guard and me driving to the facility in the morning,
- 6:04Speaker 3: it's just like, yeah, it gets a little emotional because,
- 6:07Speaker 3: like bro, I grew up fifteen minutes from here my
- 6:10Speaker 3: entire life, and then being able to say not only
- 6:12Speaker 3: say like hey, mom made it, but I made it
- 6:14Speaker 3: and I'm back home to you know, you know, show
- 6:17Speaker 3: everybody that hey, this is it can be done. You
- 6:19Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, not just on this level, but
- 6:21Speaker 3: any level, you know, just bringing inspiration to the family
- 6:25Speaker 3: and someone to kind of lean on in times of
- 6:27Speaker 3: need or under storm and stuff like that. It's always
- 6:30Speaker 3: a blessing to be in a position, but I know
- 6:32Speaker 3: it comes with a lot of responsibility. But that being said,
- 6:35Speaker 3: I'm very thankful and grateful for the opportunity to even
- 6:38Speaker 3: do this because, like I said, if you told me
- 6:40Speaker 3: at eight years old'll be sitting and talking to you
- 6:42Speaker 3: from my hometown.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Ever told you You're crazy? Right?
- 6:47Speaker 2: You mentioned the Bengals coming after you in free agency.
- 6:50Speaker 2: You were the first guy they signed this year. It
- 6:51Speaker 2: happened on the first day of free agency. Did you
- 6:54Speaker 2: know that they were going to pursue you the way
- 6:57Speaker 2: that they did or did you think that they were
- 6:59Speaker 2: going to.
- 7:01Speaker 4: No, I mean not really.
- 7:03Speaker 3: I mean I have you know, family members that obviously
- 7:06Speaker 3: they're you know, die hard Diga fan, and every year
- 7:10Speaker 3: they say.
- 7:10Speaker 4: The same thing, they will come get you.
- 7:12Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, we'll see, we'll see being now and
- 7:15Speaker 3: then once the season broke and things started kind of
- 7:19Speaker 3: clearing up, it made sense. And then it wasn't finalized
- 7:24Speaker 3: until you actually called me. I was like, oh, okay, okay,
- 7:27Speaker 3: everybody's serious, you know what I'm saying.
- 7:28Speaker 4: So it was nice.
- 7:29Speaker 3: It's not opportunity that I got to come here and
- 7:32Speaker 3: play for my hometown, but yeah, man, I'm just.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Very grateful for the opportunity.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Like I can't, I'm trying to contain myself, but I'm
- 7:40Speaker 3: very very grateful. I say, y'all, y'all helping a young
- 7:43Speaker 3: kid from this area to live like his dreams and
- 7:46Speaker 3: this is beyond what I can dream of.
- 7:49Speaker 4: So very grateful.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Joe Burrow did a news conference recently and he was
- 7:54Speaker 2: asked the question what do you think of the off
- 7:57Speaker 2: season additions? And the first thing he mentioned into it's yours.
- 8:00Speaker 2: He mentioned Dexter Laurence second, you were first. Later he
- 8:04Speaker 2: went on to talk about your leadership and the impact
- 8:07Speaker 2: that you're having not only on the defense but on
- 8:10Speaker 2: the entire team. I know you've heard it or heard
- 8:13Speaker 2: about those comments. Since what's it mean to you when
- 8:16Speaker 2: that guy singles you out as a key addition this offseason?
- 8:22Speaker 4: I mean it means a lot, you know.
- 8:23Speaker 3: I mean one, you know, being appreciated, it goes a
- 8:28Speaker 3: long way. I mean, you know, whether you go to
- 8:31Speaker 3: even simpler terms like people either get married or you know,
- 8:34Speaker 3: have significant others, like, appreciation goes.
- 8:37Speaker 4: A long way.
- 8:38Speaker 3: And so then when I you know, come into the
- 8:40Speaker 3: building and you know, the face of the team, it's
- 8:43Speaker 3: saying like hey, singling me out as far as like hey,
- 8:46Speaker 3: you know we decided to have them things like that,
- 8:48Speaker 3: and it's yeah, it pitched different shipping and show it
- 8:50Speaker 3: too because now it's like, hey, I'm doing this not
- 8:51Speaker 3: just for myself, but for the guys that believe me.
- 8:54Speaker 4: In his licker room, you know what I'm saying. So
- 8:55Speaker 4: you want to succeed, not just for me, but for.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Them, and so it does go along with It was
- 9:00Speaker 3: a long way and numerous different ways, he said, having
- 9:04Speaker 3: the leader be able to speak out and give you
- 9:07Speaker 3: something to not just live up to for that matter,
- 9:10Speaker 3: but more just a sense of I don't even say security,
- 9:16Speaker 3: a sense of just like, hey, we were behind you.
- 9:18Speaker 4: You know, we have your back.
- 9:19Speaker 3: And that said that, that feels, that feels good, it
- 9:22Speaker 3: feels real good. And then today might go out on
- 9:23Speaker 3: the field, I know that I'm not just doing it myself.
- 9:26Speaker 3: I'm doing to them, and they understand it and they
- 9:28Speaker 3: appreciate that. I think that's what Joe is down to.
- 9:31Speaker 3: But then looking on it from the other sides, like Bro,
- 9:34Speaker 3: I mean, you know, my city has been behind him
- 9:38Speaker 3: the whole entire time as well, So it's nice that
- 9:41Speaker 3: we can collab and now try to do something that
- 9:43Speaker 3: you know, we had never never been done before. So man,
- 9:46Speaker 3: it's a it's a long journey. It's a great start.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I appreciate for Joe bro saying the nice things. You know,
- 9:51Speaker 3: he's definitely you know, top top QB in the league
- 9:55Speaker 3: for years. I mean, even when he's heard he still
- 9:58Speaker 3: came back from injury and dicing them up and things
- 10:01Speaker 3: like that. And I mean he's touchdowns as far as
- 10:04Speaker 3: you know, things like that or even the yards like numbers.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Don't give him too much credit because I know he
- 10:09Speaker 3: had the injuries, but at the same time, despite his injuries,
- 10:12Speaker 3: the numbers put up it is still remarkable. So now
- 10:15Speaker 3: be on other side, you know, be able to help him,
- 10:17Speaker 3: you know, achieve something that he wants to do. I
- 10:19Speaker 3: mean obviously I want to do too, but him and
- 10:21Speaker 3: the organization wants to do and a chief and to
- 10:22Speaker 3: be able to say I helped, it's a great feeling.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Similar to Joe's comments. You were miked up at practice
- 10:30Speaker 2: this week. Yeah, yeah, and we heard Barrett Carter say
- 10:33Speaker 2: there's no safety. We would have rather added to this
- 10:37Speaker 2: family than be cook. Is it a family already?
- 10:40Speaker 4: It's a family.
- 10:42Speaker 3: It's a family, you know, just coming in and you know,
- 10:45Speaker 3: guys that don't even know me from you know, anywhere else.
- 10:49Speaker 3: But how they interact, you know, how they ask questions
- 10:53Speaker 3: or just you know listening or even kind of meet
- 10:56Speaker 3: with their problems. I know it's kind of you know,
- 10:57Speaker 3: crazy to say, but you know it takes a especially
- 11:00Speaker 3: for men, you know, I want to take some time
- 11:02Speaker 3: as for as awareness, mental awareness, you know, for men
- 11:07Speaker 3: to speak out, but guys in lack of room, they're
- 11:09Speaker 3: able to speak to me, you know, they have questions.
- 11:11Speaker 3: I'm willing to share my story or you know, and
- 11:14Speaker 3: try to help them out too. So it goes beyond
- 11:16Speaker 3: just actions. Those like you know, people who have lives,
- 11:18Speaker 3: people have things that go through and for me being
- 11:22Speaker 3: here just going to show my time and have people
- 11:23Speaker 3: come to me and have you know, heard or heart conversations,
- 11:26Speaker 3: and for me that means a lot because like you
- 11:27Speaker 3: trust people with the information to tell me, and then
- 11:30Speaker 3: I'm hoping that I can give you the right not
- 11:33Speaker 3: saying guidance, but just like hey, like you know, perspective
- 11:37Speaker 3: to think about. But that's what Bill's family, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 3: that's just Bill's connection and chemistry, that's how they want
- 11:43Speaker 3: to feel. I don't have to worry about what you're thinking.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I know what you're going through at home, and I
- 11:48Speaker 3: know why you're here. And it helps me even play
- 11:51Speaker 3: better too, because now I want to make sure that hey,
- 11:53Speaker 3: your issues, I'm helping mat sure issues about helping you
- 11:56Speaker 3: perform or helping us as a team perform well on
- 11:58Speaker 3: this field because ultimately, you know, at the end of
- 12:00Speaker 3: the day, like that's all we're here to do.
- 12:02Speaker 4: But you know, life is tough, life is hard.
- 12:05Speaker 3: But yeah, it's definitely a family, man, like a love
- 12:07Speaker 3: and the and the camaraderie that we have early on,
- 12:10Speaker 3: like we've been a wizarding three four weeks now maybe
- 12:13Speaker 3: a month. I haven't seen nothing like it, you know,
- 12:17Speaker 3: and I'll do on my fifth year now. But man,
- 12:20Speaker 3: it's love all around the building. And I'm very excited
- 12:22Speaker 3: to be a part of part of here, a part
- 12:24Speaker 3: of home. So it just everything coming full circle. So
- 12:27Speaker 3: I'm definitely appreciative. But yeah, family goes. Honestly, family is
- 12:31Speaker 3: an underrated term, I would say, but it's much more
- 12:34Speaker 3: than that. And so I haven't even haven't even seen
- 12:37Speaker 3: the most of it just yet, so we'll see how
- 12:40Speaker 3: that goes.
- 12:40Speaker 4: But yeah, definitely a family for sure.
- 12:43Speaker 2: When you were at UC, you were first team All Conference,
- 12:46Speaker 2: you were on at least one All American team. But
- 12:48Speaker 2: Sauce Gardner was there, Kobe Bryant was there. They had
- 12:51Speaker 2: been there longer. They were in the spotlight much more
- 12:54Speaker 2: than you were. That's changed now the spotlight is on you.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Do you feel that and do you like it?
- 13:00Speaker 4: Uh? I mean do I feel it?
- 13:01Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 13:02Speaker 4: Do I like you?
- 13:02Speaker 3: And it comes with the territory alto me though you
- 13:07Speaker 3: want to help pay Ball. You know, at the end
- 13:08Speaker 3: of the day, the cameras are nice, but it's not
- 13:10Speaker 3: gonna stop me from doing what I came to do
- 13:12Speaker 3: at the end of the day. I mean, at this point,
- 13:13Speaker 3: it's just more just like it will get the chance
- 13:15Speaker 3: to watch it. You know, I'm not doing it for
- 13:19Speaker 3: anyone else besides my family, and then trying to honor
- 13:22Speaker 3: God with everything I do. It's probably been the main
- 13:24Speaker 3: thing because I have my dark nice to have my
- 13:26Speaker 3: my dark conversation myself and now I feel like God
- 13:30Speaker 3: has prepared me for this stage at this point. But
- 13:34Speaker 3: at the same time, like you got to be honest
- 13:35Speaker 3: with stoning the team with Superstars, you know what I'm saying,
- 13:37Speaker 3: Like I have you know, you have Jamal, you got Tea,
- 13:40Speaker 3: you got you got Joe, I mean, you got a
- 13:41Speaker 3: little Brown, you have Dex Lawrence. So like I'm gonna
- 13:44Speaker 3: be in a mix somewhere, but I'm not like, hey,
- 13:46Speaker 3: you fuck me. So it's it is nice, but at
- 13:48Speaker 3: the same time, like you know, I don't like to
- 13:49Speaker 3: spot like too much anyway. I'm more just here to
- 13:51Speaker 3: play ball, so not to have a good balance. But yeah,
- 13:54Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know. At the same time, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 3: I got that guys, like I said, my gone her
- 13:59Speaker 3: here over there, but Alec Pierce, you know obviously, and
- 14:02Speaker 3: then Kobe got his Just Rake show over with Chicago now,
- 14:04Speaker 3: so you got to keep in contact with for sure.
- 14:07Speaker 4: But it's just no, there's no no love loss, you know.
- 14:09Speaker 3: I know everybody's journey is different, different and they maybe
- 14:13Speaker 3: catch fire at different times or things like that. But
- 14:16Speaker 3: he had the media. Bro, I ain't a lied to you.
- 14:18Speaker 3: It don't it don't really face me at this point.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I didn't too much I did. I did too much
- 14:22Speaker 3: self work and self rebuilding to let this affect me.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Now I'm more just I'm here to play ball, bro,
- 14:27Speaker 3: nothing more, nothing less man have fun and inspire people.
- 14:30Speaker 3: But I'm doing it helping his smile people, face us
- 14:32Speaker 3: and keep it pushing.
- 14:33Speaker 2: You're one of the last people that I know that
- 14:35Speaker 2: call sauce a mod.
- 14:39Speaker 3: A. Lowed to me, Bro, I seen him when he
- 14:41Speaker 3: was young, so like it's different before all the cameras
- 14:43Speaker 3: and everything. Like I seen when he first came in
- 14:45Speaker 3: as a freshman, so like and everything. Then he never changed.
- 14:48Speaker 4: He's always you know, talking and playing around and stuff
- 14:52Speaker 4: like that. So it's a little bro though, Bro, but
- 14:54Speaker 4: you know, he's doing his thing. I'm proud of him.
- 14:56Speaker 4: I'm happy. You know.
- 14:57Speaker 3: I'll definitely get the chance to sometime connect you know, obviously,
- 15:00Speaker 3: but keep in contact.
- 15:01Speaker 4: With Code as well.
- 15:02Speaker 3: So but no, my guys, though, man, we did something
- 15:05Speaker 3: specially that you see. You know, I'm hoping someone, you know,
- 15:08Speaker 3: along the lines of some year that someone can come
- 15:10Speaker 3: in and do more than what we did. But far
- 15:13Speaker 3: as right now, you know, we we got the we
- 15:15Speaker 3: got the crown. So I'm ale strong with that. Vietnam
- 15:19Speaker 3: Man's it is what it is.
- 15:20Speaker 4: You know.
- 15:21Speaker 2: One of the reasons why I really hope the Bengals
- 15:24Speaker 2: would sign you as a free agent was not only
- 15:26Speaker 2: or is not only that you're a sure tackler, but
- 15:28Speaker 2: you're a physical tackler. Do you try to set a
- 15:32Speaker 2: set a tone in the secondary, Yeah.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Of course, you know, of course there's some things that
- 15:40Speaker 3: comes with you know, the position at play, and I
- 15:43Speaker 3: mean you got to have some some stuff to you
- 15:44Speaker 3: about it.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Because you have to be standy.
- 15:46Speaker 3: You got to be you know, you got to you
- 15:49Speaker 3: don't know, you gotta you gotta have some stuff to you.
- 15:51Speaker 3: I don't want to say too much on camera, but
- 15:54Speaker 3: you got to have a little trip of the show
- 15:55Speaker 3: to just because at the.
- 15:56Speaker 4: End of the day, like you know, utilized on defense.
- 15:58Speaker 3: So you know, for me, I take it very prize
- 16:01Speaker 3: in that because of the fact that behind me is
- 16:03Speaker 3: no one, you know.
- 16:04Speaker 4: What I'm saying.
- 16:05Speaker 3: So like the fact you got to me is a
- 16:06Speaker 3: problem like while you're back here and then obviously we
- 16:10Speaker 3: fix the things as far as defense wise of what
- 16:12Speaker 3: actually happened. But you know, I'm here to help my
- 16:14Speaker 3: team and if I need to, you know, set a tone,
- 16:18Speaker 3: then that's something to do. You know however that may look,
- 16:21Speaker 3: but ultimately it's more just you know, the guys to
- 16:23Speaker 3: feel secure, you know what I'm saying.
- 16:24Speaker 4: It's not really for this opponent.
- 16:26Speaker 3: That's cool and everything too, because I mean it is
- 16:29Speaker 3: nice you know when you know, having those those moments
- 16:32Speaker 3: where you feel like, all right, you can you know
- 16:35Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 16:36Speaker 4: I can't.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I can't see too much more camera, but it's nice.
- 16:41Speaker 3: It's a nice feeling though, like those who know those
- 16:44Speaker 3: who know, No, it's a nice feeling when you get
- 16:45Speaker 3: the nice hit on somebody, So it's pretty cool. But
- 16:49Speaker 3: at the end of the day, I said, it's more
- 16:51Speaker 3: about the team and you know, building chemistry and having momentum,
- 16:56Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. Some things might happen, things
- 16:58Speaker 3: might go wrong, but I mean having a good strack
- 17:01Speaker 3: at somebody. It also helps my team build their confidence
- 17:05Speaker 3: to it. Like even though you mean the mist of play,
- 17:08Speaker 3: you know, be cooked back here not only to help out,
- 17:11Speaker 3: but he's still sat in the standard every play regardless
- 17:14Speaker 3: of what happened, you know what I'm saying.
- 17:15Speaker 4: And that deals on anything.
- 17:17Speaker 3: You know, you can have a situation where you have
- 17:18Speaker 3: a breakdown play, then you have a rais don't stop,
- 17:21Speaker 3: and that changes the whole mentum of the game, you
- 17:23Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. So moments like that, you know,
- 17:25Speaker 3: you just gotta yeah, keep playing, you know, keep making
- 17:29Speaker 3: the main thing and keep going forward.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Do I remember correctly that when you first started playing
- 17:34Speaker 2: football four or five years old, whatever it was, you
- 17:37Speaker 2: didn't like contact.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Oh that's crazy, remember that? Yeah? Yeah, a mom she
- 17:43Speaker 4: shot my mom.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Though I'm in April, ye shot everybody, all my friends
- 17:47Speaker 3: know Mama in April with iting like that.
- 17:48Speaker 4: My mom.
- 17:49Speaker 3: She she's a strong woman, strong woman, and I remember
- 17:54Speaker 3: vividly and obviously Finances wasn't you know, the greatest back
- 17:56Speaker 3: then and went out there and she bought all the equipment.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Know we're out there, and then we had the first
- 18:01Speaker 3: day pads and uh we scrimmaging against the older kids though,
- 18:05Speaker 3: so I wasn't even scrimmaging kids my age and man.
- 18:08Speaker 4: I had a I called it.
- 18:09Speaker 3: I called a pitch, like a toss or whatever, and
- 18:12Speaker 3: I guess the the person didn't block, but he came through, uh,
- 18:16Speaker 3: hit me out and flipped everything.
- 18:17Speaker 4: So now I'm like, I'm crying, like I don't wanna
- 18:19Speaker 4: do this no more. This sucks. And he told me
- 18:21Speaker 4: my face, you're like already paid.
- 18:23Speaker 3: So uh, either you're gonna either you gonna you're gonna
- 18:27Speaker 3: run faster than them, You're gonna shake them, Or're gonna
- 18:29Speaker 3: run through them. I was like, all right, so I'm
- 18:31Speaker 3: gonna try that. And then once I went through them,
- 18:33Speaker 3: and then to see the fact, oh it was. It
- 18:37Speaker 3: was a crazy and ever since then that cirie to
- 18:39Speaker 3: now who you are today and then who I am today? Like, oh,
- 18:42Speaker 3: the true tackling or the impact it came from me
- 18:44Speaker 3: being four years old and was like, oh I liked it,
- 18:47Speaker 3: Like this is how I expressed myself.
- 18:48Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. But it took time.
- 18:50Speaker 3: You know, everybody got to get a punch in the
- 18:51Speaker 3: mouth first. For you, Okay, cool, I said, any sport
- 18:54Speaker 3: like it happens, you got to be humble to really
- 18:56Speaker 3: you know, learn how to adapt. But yeah, Mama told
- 18:59Speaker 3: me a new thing. Everyone never looked back and now
- 19:01Speaker 3: here I am.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Now who is that? Twenty two years later? So shout
- 19:05Speaker 4: a mom though, man.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you Brian's mom for not letting it quit.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Still to come.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Brian took part in two Super Bowl parades in Kansas
- 19:15Speaker 2: City and imagines what that would be like in his hometown.
- 19:19Speaker 2: But first, here's a quick reminder that the Bengals Booth
- 19:22Speaker 2: podcast is brought to you by pay Corps, proud to
- 19:24Speaker 2: be the Bengals official HR software provider, by Alta Fiber
- 19:29Speaker 2: future Proof Fiber Internet designed to elevate your home, business,
- 19:33Speaker 2: and community to a new level, and by Kettering Health
- 19:36Speaker 2: the best care for the best fans. Kettering Health is
- 19:39Speaker 2: the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. I still find
- 19:44Speaker 2: it hard to believe that coming out of Mount Healthy,
- 19:46Speaker 2: your only offer was Howard University FCS school, seven thousand
- 19:51Speaker 2: seat stadium, very different from what you're going to be
- 19:53Speaker 2: doing this year. Were you just scrawny back?
- 19:56Speaker 4: I was, Yeah, yeah, I was.
- 19:58Speaker 3: I didn't hit a grossbart junior year in high school
- 20:01Speaker 3: and like five five five seven like that as.
- 20:04Speaker 4: A sophomore, and I was maybe a buck sixty.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Five something like that, and then uh got to my
- 20:11Speaker 3: junior year, maybe like one seventy five at like six
- 20:14Speaker 3: foot that also changed positions to Originally I was like
- 20:17Speaker 3: a slide receiver and a quarterback, and then moving to
- 20:20Speaker 3: corner my junior year, and then come senior year, it's like, okay,
- 20:24Speaker 3: I had my first full year playing corner. So it
- 20:27Speaker 3: was more just at the same time, look back too,
- 20:28Speaker 3: I'm like, bro, you didn't have the proper training. You
- 20:30Speaker 3: didn't do the proper training for like my first year
- 20:33Speaker 3: actually training to play a defensive back. What's going to
- 20:36Speaker 3: my senior year? My senior season of high school. And
- 20:38Speaker 3: so we look at other guys that started at you know,
- 20:41Speaker 3: seven eight, you know what I'm saying it's a little different,
- 20:45Speaker 3: but at the same time, like the IQ you know,
- 20:47Speaker 3: doesn't change regardless of where I've been because I've been
- 20:49Speaker 3: playing style was four years old, know what I'm saying.
- 20:51Speaker 3: So even though I wasn't particularly in this exact category
- 20:55Speaker 3: as far as like movement wise, the game in itself,
- 20:58Speaker 3: you know, I've been around since, you know, as able.
- 21:00Speaker 4: To even say full sentences. So it's nice.
- 21:04Speaker 3: But yeah, man, uh, very very under sized, I would say.
- 21:08Speaker 3: But at the same time, you know, it takes some coaches,
- 21:11Speaker 3: some people in life to take a chance, you know,
- 21:14Speaker 3: to invest in you.
- 21:15Speaker 4: And I have people that invested in me.
- 21:17Speaker 3: And I was at Howard you know, and uh rest
- 21:20Speaker 3: of dalland was a guy that come to mind, Kiddle
- 21:23Speaker 3: June gotta come to mind, who was just you know,
- 21:25Speaker 3: just you know constantly like hey, like this is how
- 21:29Speaker 3: you do things. And you played no Y Liter the
- 21:30Speaker 3: lead years ago, and having me, you know, helped me
- 21:33Speaker 3: dream still dream.
- 21:34Speaker 4: You know.
- 21:34Speaker 3: I didn't start off how I wanted to be, but
- 21:36Speaker 3: the end they like, I mean I have my own offer. Woman, dude,
- 21:38Speaker 3: say no, like I'm going to school for free. At
- 21:40Speaker 3: the same time, I can't afford to say no, cause
- 21:43Speaker 3: Sama gome to school. My mama can't you know, she
- 21:44Speaker 3: couldn't afford it either. So and then to look at
- 21:47Speaker 3: to like went to the HPCU. You know what I'm saying, Like,
- 21:50Speaker 3: that's not that's not too bad t y as a
- 21:53Speaker 3: prestigious HP to you too, Like you have to really
- 21:55Speaker 3: like know your stuff to be to graduate from my school.
- 21:59Speaker 3: So it was nice when my met my wife there,
- 22:01Speaker 3: my my close friends there. So even though it was
- 22:05Speaker 3: the only offer, you know, God put me where I
- 22:07Speaker 3: needed to be at and I'm grateful for that opportunity.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Then I transfer to you see, and I'm learning how
- 22:12Speaker 3: to safety, which I didn't know how to really do
- 22:14Speaker 3: at the time. I learn yeah yeah, yeah, covering and
- 22:19Speaker 3: the slides is different than covering on on the island.
- 22:22Speaker 4: It's a little it's a little different. But adapted to that.
- 22:25Speaker 3: You know, I'm on a new system obviously new coaches,
- 22:28Speaker 3: and then a time we only got a grip of
- 22:30Speaker 3: that too. Then it came to the Georgia Bowl versus
- 22:34Speaker 3: a Picture Bowl?
- 22:35Speaker 4: Was it the two label?
- 22:36Speaker 3: Yes, versus Georgia my first official start, and I was
- 22:39Speaker 3: like okay, and I was basically like you know, like, hey,
- 22:42Speaker 3: this is who I am. You know, I basically arrived
- 22:44Speaker 3: at that point, and then followed the senior season and
- 22:46Speaker 3: I got drafted. But then it's carry it took me.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I got drafted. I didn't have I was also injured,
- 22:51Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, because I tore my labor
- 22:53Speaker 3: room that season, so I didn't do any combine. I
- 22:56Speaker 3: did trade, you know, interviews and films, so everything everything
- 23:01Speaker 3: fall into place. Everything worked out, it was supposed to
- 23:04Speaker 3: work out, and I didn't people say like, oh, you know,
- 23:06Speaker 3: he's a you know, maybe people can say like late
- 23:08Speaker 3: bloomeror this like other than they're but going to your
- 23:11Speaker 3: own pace.
- 23:11Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, I'm not. You know, you're not.
- 23:13Speaker 3: I'm playing a long game, not you know, the quick
- 23:16Speaker 3: fast and no, I'm I'm playing the long game. We're
- 23:19Speaker 3: gonna we're gonna make sure that we're doing this the
- 23:21Speaker 3: correct way.
- 23:22Speaker 4: You know, long jevy is more than anything.
- 23:23Speaker 3: And so if I can keep getting wild, keep getting
- 23:25Speaker 3: better as the years was on, who's gonna say how.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Long can I go? You know what I'm saying, But because.
- 23:31Speaker 3: I was undersized at one point, you can take a
- 23:34Speaker 3: chance on me, and that's now the point. It's like, bro,
- 23:36Speaker 3: I don't you know it's on you because now I'm
- 23:38Speaker 3: here and I'm grateful for it. So here's what it is, though, man.
- 23:41Speaker 3: But investing people to be investing you, That's what I
- 23:43Speaker 3: would say.
- 23:44Speaker 2: You mentioned your wife, Jail, who played basketball at Howard
- 23:47Speaker 2: later played it my alma mater, Syracuse Shout Out to
- 23:51Speaker 2: the Orange, and George Washington played at George Washington. She
- 23:54Speaker 2: was a college athlete for six years. Does that help?
- 23:57Speaker 2: Does she understand what it takes for you, you to
- 24:01Speaker 2: be prepared to do this on a daily basis?
- 24:04Speaker 4: Yes?
- 24:05Speaker 3: I love her, But at the same time, no, And
- 24:07Speaker 3: I say that because when she was doing that, she
- 24:10Speaker 3: didn't have responsibilities. I gotta do like I do, come
- 24:13Speaker 3: home and have you my wife and my kids. Whereas
- 24:15Speaker 3: when she was in her grind, and when she says
- 24:18Speaker 3: she's really getting to it, you know, it was just her,
- 24:21Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying.
- 24:21Speaker 4: So it's a little different.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Yeah, obviously with being professional compared to college, a little
- 24:25Speaker 3: different too. I learned that very fast in my couple
- 24:28Speaker 3: of years in the lead, Like, Hey, this isn't what
- 24:30Speaker 3: I thought it would be.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Like she was a little different.
- 24:32Speaker 3: But as far as the work itself, yeah, she understands,
- 24:37Speaker 3: like it was not too much of life back and
- 24:40Speaker 3: forth like head, I didn't do this and't do that.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Now it's something that's obviously different, like you know me,
- 24:44Speaker 3: excuse me, me watching me watching tape, and then I
- 24:48Speaker 3: gotta also wipe down, you know, get my son a
- 24:50Speaker 3: bab something like that, like or gi them a wipe
- 24:52Speaker 3: down whatever kiss may be, you know what I'm saying,
- 24:54Speaker 3: or help out with that. But she's she's very she's
- 24:56Speaker 3: very helpful. She understands. But I think she understands not
- 25:01Speaker 3: just because she's the app. I think also because at
- 25:04Speaker 3: first we just literally just best friends. Were just like, hey,
- 25:06Speaker 3: you're playing basketball and playing football. We keep a contact,
- 25:09Speaker 3: but it was never like, you know, anything more than that.
- 25:12Speaker 3: But I respect the work that she put it and
- 25:14Speaker 3: vice versa, so I think that's what carry us past
- 25:17Speaker 3: anything else, and now we should like together.
- 25:19Speaker 4: So it's dope, but she understands.
- 25:21Speaker 3: We still joke though, because she hasn't played in so long,
- 25:23Speaker 3: so we're trying to talk to her, you know see
- 25:25Speaker 3: what she Yeah, we gotta uh, you know, go to
- 25:28Speaker 3: the court or something like that. But it's nice though. Yes,
- 25:30Speaker 3: they her has to be very competitive. That's very competitive.
- 25:33Speaker 2: I bet she can still shoot you, so.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Yeah, she should. She should though honestly, she's definitely should.
- 25:39Speaker 3: She can definitely.
- 25:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:41Speaker 3: I remember I first seen her freshman year. Yeah, and
- 25:45Speaker 3: she just first she was kind of like ify like
- 25:48Speaker 3: as far as like you know, she wasn't too confident.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Then like I didnk went to one game and she
- 25:52Speaker 3: started just pulling from the logo. I was like, I said, yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 3: she can hold, and then uh, it's in the rest
- 25:59Speaker 3: is history.
- 25:59Speaker 2: So you went to the Super Bowl your first three
- 26:02Speaker 2: years in Kansas City. Unfortunately you were hurt missed one
- 26:05Speaker 2: of those games. But did it become routine or or
- 26:09Speaker 2: in every Super Bowl do you look up and go
- 26:13Speaker 2: I can't believe I'm here?
- 26:15Speaker 3: Uh yes, both, Yes to both, because at the end
- 26:21Speaker 3: of the day, like it became a routine, but even
- 26:24Speaker 3: in it being a routine, you still can't believe that, hey,
- 26:26Speaker 3: I'm actually.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Doing this, you know what I'm saying.
- 26:28Speaker 3: And to go there three years in a row, it
- 26:32Speaker 3: is kind of crazy. Yeah, especially with Yeah, it's remarkable
- 26:37Speaker 3: and especially with the situation that we had. I mean
- 26:41Speaker 3: like you know, some guys in the league and then
- 26:45Speaker 3: you know they gotta have time ors growing pains, and
- 26:47Speaker 3: for us, there was no time for growing pains. Like
- 26:50Speaker 3: you know, every year we went in the Super Bowl,
- 26:52Speaker 3: and as that rookie class, especially like the dB, like
- 26:54Speaker 3: defensive rookie classes was phenomenal even rookie season. I think
- 26:59Speaker 3: we had guys will hurt. Guys got hurt an Antry
- 27:03Speaker 3: championship here actually well uh uh in their head or whatever,
- 27:09Speaker 3: and being a rookie and then you know, having the crowd
- 27:13Speaker 3: and just be not there like bro I built, I
- 27:16Speaker 3: still learned the playbook at that point. I'm still trying
- 27:18Speaker 3: to learn, like who we're at and just looking around
- 27:20Speaker 3: it's like this, there's all rookies out here, and he
- 27:22Speaker 3: was able to get the job done. But I think
- 27:24Speaker 3: having experiences and then going three years in a row,
- 27:28Speaker 3: it shapes you. It shaps you differently for success because
- 27:32Speaker 3: at the same time, like you can see how at
- 27:35Speaker 3: some points you know, success can be your biggest crutch too,
- 27:38Speaker 3: like do you get comfortable you can place it now?
- 27:40Speaker 3: You know, are you satisfied now or do you see
- 27:43Speaker 3: it's another learning opportunity to Hey, how can we do
- 27:45Speaker 3: this again, because ultimately time it's sill still changing, you
- 27:48Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. So if you're not willing to
- 27:49Speaker 3: adapt with the times, it's gonna be younat, you gonna
- 27:52Speaker 3: get left behind unfortunately. But yeah, as far as the
- 27:57Speaker 3: three two bowls, like, that's ah, it's a crazy, crazy,
- 28:01Speaker 3: crazy experience.
- 28:02Speaker 4: I remember.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Even my dog Trent, we were talking a rookie year
- 28:08Speaker 3: and were just like we were just on the super
- 28:10Speaker 3: every year, you know, just talking, and then we actually
- 28:12Speaker 3: did it was crazy. So yeah, man, but I think
- 28:15Speaker 3: I carry that with me because now I can see
- 28:17Speaker 3: how it can be done in different ways. And now
- 28:20Speaker 3: being here, it's a cause I can see that far instid,
- 28:24Speaker 3: I've been that far, and I can see like, Okay,
- 28:26Speaker 3: we got some pieces, we have some some it's work
- 28:29Speaker 3: to be done for sure, but we have some some
- 28:31Speaker 3: good some good guys in l in the locker room,
- 28:34Speaker 3: some good culture being built. And they're still early. So
- 28:37Speaker 3: you want to pick too soon, obviously, you want to
- 28:39Speaker 3: pick the right time. I think about timing, but I'm very,
- 28:42Speaker 3: very excited for what to come for this organization, and
- 28:45Speaker 3: obviously I'm gonna have my heart into a little bit
- 28:47Speaker 3: more some guys, maybe because of the fact that I
- 28:49Speaker 3: am from.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Here, so I'm gonna have a little more stuff to me.
- 28:54Speaker 3: We're going to certain stuff because of the situation that said,
- 28:56Speaker 3: I grew up fifteen minutes from here and just to
- 28:59Speaker 3: dream come true.
- 29:00Speaker 4: So I don't know. I'm excited. I'm trying.
- 29:02Speaker 3: I'm trying to stay cool for the interview, but I'm excited. Bro,
- 29:06Speaker 3: I'm very excited.
- 29:07Speaker 2: You won two out of the three in Kansas City.
- 29:10Speaker 2: That meant two super Bowl parades. Can you imagine a
- 29:14Speaker 2: Super Bowl parade in Cincinnati? What that would be like?
- 29:21Speaker 3: Oh, I'd be crazy. Yeah, I don't want to everywhere.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Oh dope, God be dope. Where were we even? Like
- 29:35Speaker 4: drive around?
- 29:36Speaker 2: I think it would finish at Union Terminal, So so
- 29:41Speaker 2: that backdrop that looks like the headquarters for Superman. I
- 29:44Speaker 2: believe that's where it would finish. I can't say that
- 29:47Speaker 2: with one hundred certainty, but I believe that that's the concept.
- 29:52Speaker 4: If it happens, doubt you crazy.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Be crazy. Hopefully it will will be crazy.
- 30:00Speaker 4: What I do?
- 30:00Speaker 3: Yeah, no, yeah, yeah, will yeah, yeah, that would be
- 30:03Speaker 3: crazy for sure. It's I can't even Yeah, Bro, you'll
- 30:08Speaker 3: get the emotional. I can't even I can't even think
- 30:10Speaker 3: about it.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I can tell I can tell that's great.
- 30:13Speaker 3: I mean a lot to me though, that would mean
- 30:15Speaker 3: a lot to me like that would that would mean
- 30:17Speaker 3: I don't say, the world, but it was. It would
- 30:19Speaker 3: be something that out forever, out for ever chairs for
- 30:24Speaker 3: ever chairs and.
- 30:26Speaker 4: All boards and let us go back to back or
- 30:28Speaker 4: so that's going too far, So I'm saying it's just so.
- 30:34Speaker 3: It's very excited though, man. It was just very excited
- 30:36Speaker 3: for opportunity and you know, we have what we need.
- 30:38Speaker 3: I feel like so I can dream that far now
- 30:42Speaker 3: and seeing that here, but I know at the end
- 30:45Speaker 3: of the day it works to be done. And so
- 30:47Speaker 3: folks going to work and then to keep laying each
- 30:50Speaker 3: break down each day. You know, soon we will little
- 30:52Speaker 3: build our house.
- 30:53Speaker 4: We will have our.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Foundation set and the test of time would tell you
- 30:57Speaker 3: know that you know, we are here for a real
- 31:00Speaker 3: So it was serious. So I'm excited. But yeah, I'm
- 31:04Speaker 3: I'm gonna go home and draw that pitsion now, just
- 31:07Speaker 3: jolly and peeling the wall somewhere the parade Epidope.
- 31:12Speaker 2: A former Mount Healthy fighting hawk or fighting.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Owl owl hawks, though in the little leagues.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe in the back of my mind somehow, Fighting Owl,
- 31:23Speaker 2: Cincinnati Bearcat, now Cincinnati Bengal. It's great to have you home.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Thanks so much for your time, best of luck this year.
- 31:30Speaker 4: Thank you, appreciated, appreciate it.
- 31:33Speaker 2: This week, the Bengals offseason program advanced to the phase
- 31:36Speaker 2: where the offense could face the defense for the first
- 31:39Speaker 2: time at least in seven on seven scenarios. It's still voluntary,
- 31:44Speaker 2: but everybody is here, including Jamar Chase. Two days before
- 31:48Speaker 2: Jamar joined the team at practice, I caught up with
- 31:51Speaker 2: him at his annual football camp for more than three
- 31:54Speaker 2: hundred kids in grades one through eight. We start with
- 31:58Speaker 2: Jamar's opening address to the campers, followed by my one
- 32:03Speaker 2: on one conversation.
- 32:04Speaker 1: All Right, the first off, I want.
- 32:05Speaker 2: To say thank you to the pans.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Hey, everybody bringing their kids outside today. Appreciate y'all.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Thank y'all.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I appreciate y'all.
- 32:11Speaker 5: We're gonna participate with me today. It's been a long week,
- 32:15Speaker 5: so I really do appreciate this.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Man.
- 32:17Speaker 5: I know I was a little late today. I'm sorry
- 32:19Speaker 5: about that, but coaches, I appreciate this. I just want
- 32:23Speaker 5: to have a lot of fun at the end of
- 32:25Speaker 5: the day. That's what it's all about. Got my son
- 32:26Speaker 5: with me to dance, So I want you all to
- 32:27Speaker 5: have a lot of fun. We're gonna do some one
- 32:30Speaker 5: on ones today. I'm gonna come around and do some
- 32:32Speaker 5: drugs with y'all too, go to the ball with y'all,
- 32:35Speaker 5: have some fun to neck with y'all.
- 32:36Speaker 4: I'll see.
- 32:36Speaker 5: We got a little older kids too, so we're gonna
- 32:38Speaker 5: definitely missing it's a little bit. So I'm insided you
- 32:43Speaker 5: all ready, y'all know?
- 32:46Speaker 4: Sorry?
- 32:47Speaker 1: Are you all ready? Ah? That's what I y'anna do.
- 32:51Speaker 1: We go give it up Bruno everybody tomorrow.
- 32:55Speaker 2: I think there's back at the super Bowl where you
- 32:57Speaker 2: express the hope that the Bengals could land mac Crosby.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Dexter Lawrence is arguably as good or better. What was
- 33:04Speaker 2: your reaction and what do you think it does for
- 33:05Speaker 2: the team.
- 33:07Speaker 5: Honestly, it was very, very impactful for one and two.
- 33:11Speaker 5: It was very surprising and I honestly I didn't see
- 33:13Speaker 5: it come in, So it was a great pick for us.
- 33:15Speaker 5: I'm glad we got a chance he could make make
- 33:17Speaker 5: a big impact on the defensive side. I think he
- 33:19Speaker 5: gonna come in play a big role for us.
- 33:21Speaker 1: And he's not the only addition.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Boy A Mafe, Brian Cook, Jonathan Allen the draft picks.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Do you think the defense is noticeably better?
- 33:30Speaker 5: I mean yeah, my paper for one hundred percent sure,
- 33:32Speaker 5: you know, was to arguably have to play show it
- 33:35Speaker 5: off too, So I can't wait to show the criticis
- 33:38Speaker 5: so what we could do. That's what it's all about.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Joe posted a photo a photo fairly recently if you
- 33:44Speaker 2: guys doing a throwing session.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I think it was in California.
- 33:48Speaker 2: I think the expression was got better or something like that.
- 33:52Speaker 1: What was that like? And how important are things like that?
- 33:55Speaker 4: Oh?
- 33:55Speaker 5: It was good to have, man, Honestly, we needed that
- 33:57Speaker 5: to get some chemistry in before we got back, and
- 34:01Speaker 5: that's what we needed to do.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Obviously.
- 34:02Speaker 5: I've been trying to get him to do that for
- 34:03Speaker 5: a couple of years. So we just took an advantage
- 34:05Speaker 5: of the free time that we have to meet up
- 34:07Speaker 5: with each other on our off time and build more chemistry.
- 34:09Speaker 1: What are you doing this time of the year right now?
- 34:13Speaker 5: It's a lot of in shape, trying to be in shape.
- 34:15Speaker 5: Can't wait to get back, you know, obviously not going
- 34:17Speaker 5: to be back soon. So really just a lot of
- 34:19Speaker 5: trying to be in shape, correct my stuff that I
- 34:21Speaker 5: got going on, bring myself and you know, try to
- 34:24Speaker 5: be back better than lassa.
- 34:26Speaker 2: This is the voluntary portion of the off season. As
- 34:29Speaker 2: hard as you work, and I mean you never come
- 34:31Speaker 2: off the field. Do you need more time away?
- 34:35Speaker 5: I mean it's not time away, it's just giving my
- 34:37Speaker 5: body or rest at the.
- 34:38Speaker 4: End of the day.
- 34:38Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 34:39Speaker 5: I work very hard. My coaching combauch for me. My
- 34:41Speaker 5: team is revouce for me. So at the end of
- 34:43Speaker 5: the day, I'm not doing anything wrong. I make sure
- 34:45Speaker 5: I talk back with the team, give him information, so
- 34:48Speaker 5: I do a good job of that.
- 34:49Speaker 1: This will be year six. That seems crazy to me.
- 34:53Speaker 1: What about you?
- 34:55Speaker 5: Honestly, man, it's going by fast. I can't I can't
- 34:57Speaker 5: even lie. It's going about really fast. And then I'm
- 34:59Speaker 5: just enjoying my in the process of everything going on.
- 35:01Speaker 5: So you know, shout out to God for everything and
- 35:03Speaker 5: explessing him.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Everybody's back on offense. We know the offense will be good.
- 35:07Speaker 2: How can it be better?
- 35:10Speaker 5: You gotta execute at the end of the day, It's
- 35:12Speaker 5: all about executing with the offense and and that's what
- 35:15Speaker 5: it's about with the defense. So as long as few
- 35:16Speaker 5: players a unit together, then we can always be great.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Spoke your dad a moment ago. He said, tell the
- 35:21Speaker 2: media to stop talking about the super Bowl? Should we
- 35:24Speaker 2: be talking about the super Bowl?
- 35:27Speaker 5: I mean, honestly, we gotta take one game at a time,
- 35:29Speaker 5: one step at a time, and that's the first games first.
- 35:32Speaker 5: So you know, we gotta take it, take it to
- 35:34Speaker 5: camp first, and then we gotta go from there. So
- 35:36Speaker 5: we gotta take it slow this year and not really
- 35:38Speaker 5: moving there fast. And don't take advantage of what some
- 35:40Speaker 5: fun of us.
- 35:41Speaker 2: If you've done anything fun, any travel, anything like that
- 35:44Speaker 2: this offseason, yeah, I've.
- 35:46Speaker 5: Did a couple of travel uh situations, you know obviously,
- 35:48Speaker 5: but you know that's not really the big thing.
- 35:50Speaker 4: You know.
- 35:50Speaker 5: I make sure I even when I travel, I work out,
- 35:52Speaker 5: So I bring my training with me to make sure
- 35:54Speaker 5: I'm always getting working in.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Did you watch the flag football and did you cringe
- 35:59Speaker 2: when Joe's diving and essentially getting tackled.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I didn't crams.
- 36:05Speaker 5: I didn't really see it until social media hit it.
- 36:08Speaker 5: But I caught him in an acts because I was
- 36:12Speaker 5: trying to do it too, so I mean, I called
- 36:13Speaker 5: him and asked how it was it, But as long
- 36:15Speaker 5: as he had a good time. At the end of
- 36:16Speaker 5: the day, he's an athlete. He knows how fast he
- 36:18Speaker 5: can go and we can control our own pace.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Then goes draft to the wide receiver, Kobe Young. Have
- 36:23Speaker 2: you looked at him at all? And what do you think?
- 36:25Speaker 5: I watched a little bit of his game a little bit,
- 36:27Speaker 5: so I can't wait to see him in person. I
- 36:29Speaker 5: think that's the biggest bid. So I could give him
- 36:30Speaker 5: tips and pieces. I'm sure Tea has already and I
- 36:33Speaker 5: just can't wait to see him in the system, see.
- 36:34Speaker 4: How he fits.
- 36:34Speaker 1: It looks a little bit like T two point Oh.
- 36:37Speaker 5: I've been hearing that lately, so I've been hearing that
- 36:39Speaker 5: from the size and stuff, so it'll be funny.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I can't wait to see what you do. You've been
- 36:43Speaker 1: doing these camps for a while. The kids obviously go
- 36:46Speaker 1: bananas when they see you. What do you get out
- 36:48Speaker 1: of it?
- 36:50Speaker 5: Honestly, Man's it's a beautiful thing.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Man.
- 36:52Speaker 5: I got my kid with me today. I'm gonna have
- 36:54Speaker 5: my other kid with me too, so just gonna have
- 36:55Speaker 5: him running around.
- 36:56Speaker 4: For a little bit.
- 36:57Speaker 5: And you know, enjoyed the process because this was just
- 36:59Speaker 5: all about the end today. You know you want to
- 37:00Speaker 5: grow up and watch them do these things they've brought.
- 37:02Speaker 5: They watched you. You know that they your favorite player,
- 37:05Speaker 5: So you never know how much impact you have on
- 37:08Speaker 5: a person.
- 37:09Speaker 1: When it comes to more quest, that's.
