  defiance of the House Republicans partisan funding

  bill. Democrats pulled up a seat for
• 1:10
  Republican leadership at the negotiating table to discuss a
• 1:13
  bipartisan solution, but Republicans walked away.

  What did Republicans propose instead?
• 1:20
  A blank check to Donald Trump and Elon Musk to take money away
• 1:24
  from you and spend as they will. For years, I've heard my
• 1:28
  Republican colleagues talk about the power of the purse and how
• 1:31
  that power belongs to Congress and Congress alone.
• 1:35
  Republicans love to talk about Article One of the Constitution
• 1:39
  and insisted on clear checks and balances.
• 1:42
  What do I hear now? Silence.
• 1:45
  Now that Republicans are in control of Congress, they decide
• 1:49
  to bend the knee to Donald Trump.
• 1:52
  Republicans are giving Donald Trump and Elon Musk the power to
• 1:55
  decide who gets money and who doesn't.
• 1:58
  Based on these last eight weeks, we know who Trump prioritizes
• 2:02
  his billionaire friends and big corporations.

  He does not care for veterans, workers with disabilities,
• 2:08
  children, senior citizens, farmers, or families.
• 2:12
  Just trying to make ends meet. Republicans will try to call
• 2:15
  this a clean continuing resolution.

  Believe me, that is a bunch of full in the blank because this
• 2:22
  is far from clean. The Republican funding bill has
• 2:25
  dirt all over it. With this bill, the Trump
• 2:28
  administration will decide construction funding by the Army
• 2:32
  Corps of Engineer. Trump will cut funds for lead
• 2:34
  pipe replacements for schools, better water mains to prevent
• 2:38
  flooding, and better streets for our communities.
• 2:41
  Elon Musk and those have proven how little they care about
• 2:44
  veterans. They made sweeping staffing cuts
• 2:47
  to veterans centers across the country, including in Danville,
• 2:51
  IL. My office has gotten calls from
• 2:53
  workers and some vets who were fired for no justifiable reason,
• 2:58
  impacting their own families and the veterans they care for.
• 3:02
  The Republican funding bill goes even further, cutting 23 billion
• 3:07
  in veterans benefits. It gives Trump permission to
• 3:09
  eliminate programs for veterans, including homelessness
• 3:12
  prevention programs, which could lead to more than 32,000
• 3:16
  veterans losing their homes. These are people who defended
• 3:20
  our country. Trump would also have the power
• 3:23
  to reallocate funding dedicated to maternal and child health
• 3:26
  programs, including Healthy Start, rural maternal health
• 3:30
  initiatives, and maternity care training.
• 3:33
  But over a decade, I have rolled up my sleeves to save mothers
• 3:37
  who are dying from preventative pregnancy related causes.
• 3:40
  In the middle of a maternal mortality crisis, Trump was sign
• 3:44
  away all the programs that help mothers and babies.
• 3:48
  Trump likes to talk a big game about border control and our
• 3:51
  country's fentanyl crisis. He plays as the world's biggest
• 3:55
  bully and hits our closest allies with tariffs.
• 3:58
  Meanwhile, Republicans give Trump the power to steer funding
• 4:02
  dedicated to stopping the flow of fentanyl and instead spend
• 4:06
  that money on mass deportation initiatives.
• 4:10
  Last September, Kankakee County and my district received funding
• 4:14
  to help law enforcement crackdown on illicit drug
• 4:17
  trafficking and address the overdose epidemic.
• 4:20
  That funding would stop under the Republican bill.
• 4:23
  You heard at the joint address to Congress last week that RFK
• 4:27
  Junior is free to run with his conspiracy theories and anti
• 4:31
  vaccination lies. This bill would give him broad
• 4:34
  discretion to spend money as he wishes at the CDC, ignoring
• 4:39
  critical life saving programs like Ending the HIV Epidemic,
• 4:43
  Epidemic Initiative, Alzheimer's disease programs, and cancer
• 4:47
  prevention. If you are not part of the 1%,
• 4:50
  House Republicans and Donald Trump simply do not care about
• 4:54
  you. It does not matter if you are
• 4:56
  Democrat, Republican or independent.
• 4:58
  This partisan funding bill proves it.

  Republicans are giving Donald Trump the green light to do as
• 5:04
  he wishes and we all know that he does not have the American
• 5:07
  people in mind. I, alongside House Democrats,
• 5:11
  have always been at the negotiation table, but we will
• 5:14
  never negotiate away veterans benefits, healthcare, or
• 5:17
  people's Social Security. I refuse to betray my
• 5:20
  constituents. Please stand up, speak out and
