- 0:00Welcome to the No God Coach Huddle for
- 0:02May 18, 2025. Your two-minute play of
- 0:05the day for applying God's word in your
- 0:08life. So, let's huddle up and hear
- 0:09today's play from Deuteronomy 22, which
- 0:12says, "If you see your fellow
- 0:13Israelites, ox or sheep, straying, do
- 0:16not ignore it, but be sure to take it
- 0:18back to its owner. If they do not live
- 0:20near you, or if you do not know who owns
- 0:22it, take it home with you and keep it
- 0:24until they come looking for it, then
- 0:26give it back. Do the same. If you find
- 0:28their donkey or cloak, or anything else
- 0:31they've lost, do not ignore it. If you
- 0:33see your fellow Israelites donkey, ox,
- 0:35or fallen on the road, do not ignore it.
- 0:38Help the owner get it to its feet.
- 0:41Neighborliness used to be a common word
- 0:43in our vocabulary, especially in the
- 0:45home and in the school. It meant the
- 0:47practical means by which we obey God's
- 0:49command to love our neighbor as
- 0:51ourselves.
- 0:52The allowance of the removal of God from
- 0:54public schools by weak Christian leaders
- 0:57has resulted in an increasingly less
- 0:59neighborly society. Neither has it
- 1:02helped that fewer and fewer read the
- 1:04Bible or study it with their fellow
- 1:06parishioners who call themselves
- 1:07Christians. While we are free from the
- 1:09law to help our neighbor with his broken
- 1:12down donkey, we are not free from the
- 1:14law of love for those whose car is
- 1:16broken down. Thinking of others in
- 1:18general, then specifically, how can we
- 1:20love our neighbor as ourselves
- 1:22practically must increase in the hearts
- 1:24and minds of Christians for the world to
- 1:26see and experience more of the
- 1:28transformation that happens when a
- 1:31person is truly born again. Likewise, we
- 1:34must teach our children these things and
- 1:35insist upon them in our homes where
- 1:38neighborliness is first learned and
- 1:39applied. If the parent is truly obedient
- 1:42to God's command to train up their
- 1:44children in the way they are to go, we
- 1:46are born sinful, which means we are born
- 1:48selfish and self-centered. We see this
- 1:51nature in toddlers daily and
- 1:53unfortunately increasingly in adults. We
- 1:56can train through law and discipline
- 1:58thoughtfulness for others until our
- 2:00children are old enough to understand
- 2:02and love the thoughtfulness of others
- 2:04because of its goodness in society for
- 2:06them and everyone else. This is what
- 2:08Christian parents must do even as they
- 2:11model the same before their
